Reviews of Jamaica Wine House
Cosy old pub in St Michael's Alley, just off Cornhill in the City.
Shepherd Neame with a good selection of beers and comfy atmosphere.
Great pub. It can seem quite busy in the evening but don't be fooled there is plenty of space to sit inside. Good if you want a place that's historical. Good drink selection. Welcoming staff. I will return again.
Good old fashioned pub.highly recommend
What a strange old pub! Full of bankers in suits with good hair like the 20th century never ended but I won't hold it against the pub. Not too loud and good drink. It's all you need.
Fantastic old pub with a great range of drinks. It can be insanely busy but the bar staff are excellent and always keep things moving.
Great after graft pub. No food options that I saw but the bar is long and well staffed
This is one of the London City institutions. Probably the best Guinness in London and a superb atmosphere. As a scotsman, the only downside is their Whisky Gantry...!
Lovely pub hidden away in Central London with lots of history. Friendly staff and customer's alike.
Still the same. I have been going for and after work drink here for 38 years. Must do once or even twice in your life on Thursday or Friday after work.
Very friendly staff. Especially Sophie who helped out one of our friends who was shaken up and very upset. She kept checking on our friend when she could and was by her side through it. She gave her a water and calmed her down. Thank you Sophie
Great pub, can get busy though.
The Jamaican Wine House
❤️Historic city pub a few minutes walk from the Bank of England. Traditional dark wood bar busy with city workers. There is a snug wine bar downstairs.

Great atmosphere, excellent service, great drinks
Tucked away little gem, with a really good selection of beers on tap
Hidden down a passage, definitely worth finding, a dark panelled treasure. Good beer and great staff.
Nice and dark, very busy on a Friday evening when we went
Stopped off and enjoyed a delicious glass of Shiraz. Service was lovely and the atmosphere sublime 👌
Great place to meet friends for a few drinks
Just a taste of days gone by..very special
Great staff, great selection. Wooden interior makes it feel like stepping back in time whilst you swig a pint with the punters
Beer not perfect but lovely old pub. Starting to use it more as it's close to the office and has always been tolerable at worst and more normally pleasant. Can get very full near the end of the week and someone let the underwriters in but otherwise admirable.
Historic pub / wine bar, tucked away in alleyways off Cornhill. Benefits from the adjacent George Yard, so attracts huge crowds of summer drinkers.
The ground floor pub itself is wood panelled with lots of nooks and crannies. Beer selection is decent and service is OK. I’m guessing that the location is so popular that they don’t need to improve either.
Entrance to the basement bar is via a side door and is missed by a lot of people - so a good choice if you want a less crowded indoor experience.
Great basement bar not usually too loud. Fairly small beer range, mostly bottles from Shepherd Neame but these can be hard to find in this part of London. Very friendly staff and overall a great atmosphere. We didn't eat on this visit but have done previously and the food was of a high standard - fairly basic but tasty.
Bustling historic Pub with bags of character tucked away down a city alleyway.. very 'Harry Potter'. Good beers served and a particularly good pint of Guinness which can be hard to find these days.
A nice spot to seek out off of the main drag.
I discovered this pub and wine bar shortly after blacklisting Tim Martin's Wetherspoon pubs because of his ultra right-ring Brexit propaganda. Now it's my regular. Upstairs it's a proper drinking pub and this is where I frequent. But if you prefer a space with a little more refinement there a wonderful wine bar downstairs with tables and a menu, not that I've ever eaten here.
Really historic pub in tiny alley near Bank.
Good beer and friendly staff
Lovely out of the way olde worlde pub with very interesting internal features and feel. Good beers and decent London prices. Staff very friendly. Friendly atmosphere. Was not busy when I went but can imagine it gets lively and popular for after work drinks.
Great pub, friendly staff
Love this pub. Great local if you work in the area. Friendly staff that are so much we quicker than the local chain pubs nearby. Even when it's packed it's never long before you get served. Not the cheapest but for central London is not bad.
Love this historic pub in the heart of the City. Started to go there over 20 years ago when I first started working in the Square Mile. Still retains it’s charm, history and offers a great selection of beers. A must visit for City workers and tourists alike!
Very nice pub that's got a wonderful courtyard so is great in the summer. Wouldn't want to go there if I couldn't be outside. Good selection of drinks and fair prices for central London.
A great selection of beers and wines with a traditional layout that gives you a good chance to find a more private nook to catch up with friends. Prices are pretty standard for London.
Great old school boozer in the City
In spite of its name they do serve some great ales here.
Great atmosphere but does get very busy from 16:00hrs. onwards as it's in the middle of the City of London. Beer to visit here off peak.
One of the most historic bars in the city. Started as a coffee house in 1652. Hidden away off Cornhill. Beers are at City prices but if you like a bit of history with your pint the Jampot is the perfect place.
The "Jam Pot" (as it has been known for decades) is a wonderful and historic City pub and wine house. It is tucked away up St Michael's Alley. It was London's 1st ever coffee house frequented by Samuel Pepys; the step you walk on to enter has clearly been trod upon many times since 1652. It now offers good beers at a fair price and the downstairs wine bar does good food.
Upstairs is quirky trad pub with good beer and light snacks. Downstairs is quieter restaurant with limited menu. Pleasant staff.
Nicely busy traditional pub full of City types. We were there on a Friday night about 6.30 and found room to stand where we could put our drinks on a shelf. Worth a visit
So dark Dracula would be delighted. Ordered a pint of Samuel Adams and I'm sure they had an ale in the tap instead. More of a winter drinking location than summer. Seems nice enough though. Didn't drink in the wine cellar below.
Secret pub off the beaten track. Usually quieter than the nearby wine bars but few luxuries (not sure if I can even remember seeing a chair). Good friendly service and reasonable variety to drink.
Whilst this place does serve wine it seems to me that it is a pub. Historic 1600ish coffee house conversion, a drinking experience. Shepherd Neame beers If you're in the area (behind the Crosse Keys) well worth a visit.
It was a shame to be unable to take drinks outside, on a very warm evening
Too full most of the time to be really fun. Relatively expensive, and very much for the 'suits'. But if you're with tourists who want an old fashioned pub, this is a great place to go during the day.
First time visit here..very oldie and traditional..
Historic pub. Quaint olde worlde feel. And Todd's Wine Bar in the basement serves brilliant food. Some lovely ales on tap upstairs.
Hidden down a little alley Jamaica Wine House is a true city gem. If you're actually looking for Jamaican Wine you'll probably come away unfulfilled. This is the place for you if you want an atmospheric little pub, you know the sort - good beer, dark wood on every surface, city gents celebrating their latest deal - wonderful. Is this love? Probably.
Good service. Good beer.
Great city pub.
Lovely and charming pub
One of the oldest bars in London. Watch out for the step in that has been warn down by foot fall and never replaced. An awkward outside policy where you must stand on the side of the alley closest to the pub.
Nice, historic pub near Bank tube station. Very swift service. 4 casks on the bar. Downstairs formal eating area.
I really like this pub. An historical place tucked away in the high rises of the city. Only downside is it’s always packed.
One of the better pubs in the area, a bit hidden away but all the better for it. No loud music so you can hear yourself speak and the outside areas are the nearby alleys that border it. Cool place
Historic London pub in the backstreets of the city. Drinking outside when the weather's good. (standing up) is a part of London city life. Go if you can!
Historic old pub in the heart of London's financial district. Not cheap, but an interesting choice of ales and a chance to soak up a bit of history and atmosphere amidst the modern bustle of the City.
Very nice building and look. Complies to my beliefs on a great bar/pub. The enployees are kind, the prices are a bit higher., but still fine.
Love this place for both personal and historical reasons. A proper ale house. Good beer, good service but can get very busy.
Top boozer
First time here, proper old school pub, quick service, good range of beers, ample outside area, lovely.
It's always a pleasure to have a catch up with old colleagues before Xmas. The jam pot is the only place we would ever choose to meet! Or would take us!!! 😎🤪
Brilliant traditional London drinking dive. It's sticky floored and expensive, and frequented by a few too many city type traders. But it's still quality.
Good old school pub down a narrow alleyway but with a decent amount of space for drinking outside. Beer selection not bad.
Nice cozy pub in the middle of all Bank offices. Great for a pint with co workers to celebrate.
Good. Packed, but good. We went outside (in mid-January) to drink rather than squeeze in. I imagine that's preferable when it's warmer, as the press of people made it fairly warm in mid-winter.
The staff are amazingly friendly and this creates a wonderful atmosphere. I wish this pub was in my area. Definitely visiting again and again and again.
This is an absolutely amazing historic hostelry serving great beer at competitive prices in a totally convivial atmosphere!!!! Top notch venue!
Cheers 🍻
Paul
Great pub for a beer while standing in the courtyard in the sunshine during summer. Bit dingy inside, but it's traditional London style.
Great selections of beers on tap and plenty of room both inside and outside to enjoy your drinks. Price wise it's very reasonable
Great pub, really friendly and helpful staff. Lovely old building with loads of history.
Yep all good here too. Go downstairs though. Burger or fish and chips essentially wine is reasonably priced too compared to other places around there.
Quaint, comfortable with great staff
Nice pub srrvin Shepherd Neame beers. Whitstable Bay, Spitfire, etc...
Pretty good staff too as one doesn't usually have to wait long at the bar
Nice pub hidden away in the back streets. Always lots of bar staff, so service is quick.
Great old school city boozer.
Secret snug in city !
Great traditional city pub. Good selection of wines and beers
Awesome pub! Very cool setting.
Nice pub, big outside area. It's a Sam Smith pub, beer could be a bit better.
Nice pub near bank station, it's epically crowded Fridays, we had an area booked so wasn't as bad.
Brilliant pub with tons of run. Hidden in the city but always worth a visit.
Don’t worry and go to Todd’s Wine Bar. It’s the same place and got us confused at first. Great pub with a different section downstairs focused on wines.
Old with good beer and lots of little nooks. Lovely... Sure it must be very busy after work.
Normal noisy City watering hole. Does sell handpump beer as opposed to some of the dubious bottled concoctions.
Good pub in the city. I particularly like the wine bar downstairs.
Nice pub close to Bank. Its has a character building with a typical old school pub vibes.
Loved the mulled wine.
Standard old school City pub, full of City gents drinking beer after work. Good beer & good atmosphere for conversation.
Nice little alley bar
Well worth a visit, just for the interior, beers and food are good too, can get really busy
Crowded fun little pub. Gets busy and noisy and you end up standing in the alley but - hey - its a traditional old pub.
Interesting little haunt amongst the skyscapers of the City of London that transports you back to centuries ago. Always busy after work where customers spill out into the side streets
Downstairs wine bar is fun and not too packed. Upstairs in the main pub is usually madly busy.
It's small and you won't get a seat, but they keep the beer well and the place has plenty of character.
Always packed but surprisingly good at serving quickly. Most regulars appear to drink outside.
Service was a little slow even though it wasn't particularly busy. Ordered a burger each but only had one left so one of us had to have a chicken burger instead.
Good selection of beers and outdoor area for sunny afternoons. Nice food and basement sit down area.
Nice old pub.
The oldest Inn in England, and a stones throw from Simpsons Chop House - The only think that lets it down is that it is a tied pub and only sells Shepherd Neame beers.
Good pub in the area. Get a pint and soak up the sun in George Yard. Does often smell of sick in here for some unknown reason....
Great boozer.
After work favourite.
Dont expect food, just a great place to meet and sink a few
This is a "man's" pub. Very historic. And very old skool city of London. Been sporadically going for 10 years.
Lovely building and friendly team
Good but very busy small pub. Decent beer and nice staff
Nice littel place in the middle of busy London. Hidden away with good vibe and atmosphere!
A good selection of ales, lots of history and character with this pub. Can get a little busy.
Great pub for the summer with a large area outside. Food is alright with a selection of sandwiches in the main bar.
Great old pub. A City favourite. I first came here as a child broker 40 years ago.
Crowded but lively historic pub, wine bar downstairs especially nice.
Staff Richard is amazing and his colleagues too. Nice atmosphere
Busy, small pub hidden away in the city. Good selection of beers and you can drink outside.
Historic pub with a great atmosphere, but often overcrowded.
Lovely traditional pub. The food is not great in variety but everything offered is quite delicious and well-cooked.
Great historic pub. Not many real ales but nice vibe.
Great little pub with very friendly staff a hidden gem!
Lovely pub with great history, the real treasure is downstairs
If you're going for a drink when it's sunny, there's a great little courtyard through the passage past the George and Vulture.
Great local in the City. Really awesome staff. Favourite pub.
Great little boozer
Fabulous hidden away wood panelled bar. Reasonably priced wine for the City
Great food (beef brisket) and well priced good wines in a top location. Strongly recommend.
Excellent old school pub in the heart of the city, tucked away down a little alleyway.
Lovely old pub. Good service. Decent beer.
Classic London pub with original wooden beams and strong choice of beers. Excellent
Nice little pub.. One of oldest pubs. Very busy..
So much history here it's unbelievable bit pricey on drink food excellent staff very attentive
Cosy atmosphere in this underground bar. Affordable drinks and quick service!
Great atmosphere off the beaten track in the city. Good choice of beers.
Old city pub no frills with a nice quiet restaurant downstairs
A stylish pub with good atmosphere. Oranjeboom lager is definitely worth a try!
An old school City classic...
Bit pricey but a lovely little old style pub/wine bar
Great old interesting pub shame about plastic glasses high end pricing for beer
Great pub, just hard to find space
Nice old pub, lots of history and decent place for groups, can get very crowded though
The best pub in a three mile radius of it's location....
Very unusual and cosy. Serving a mix, including Shepherd Neame on tap
Lovely little pub. Decent Shepherd Neame beer.
Very Good. Great Location in the lanes of the City of London. Ales, good but not outstanding.
Great history and location. Busy afterwork hangout to socialize and have a pint.
The courtyard this pub sits on is QUINTESSENTIAL City of London. A Roman labyrinth. A wonder.
Tucked away cool little place, often packed and the drinks selection is limited.
Always crowded it does not really offer much beyond the historical connotations. The area outside is huge which compensates for the size of the place
Lovely historic pub. Good selection of beverages...
If you get just slightly deeper into the pub you get your drinks without waiting too long...
Good City pub, need to elbow your way to the bar on weeknights
Traditional style City pub. Always very popular.
Great Shepherd Neame pub
Nice little pub hidden away in the city. Recommend it
Nice pub upstairs with a lovely wine bar downstairs
Great little place for a drink tucked away from the hussle of The City
A hidden gem in the square mile. Lots of history and a great place for a quiet (ish) pint.
Good service, with decent alley space to drink outside. Interior is cramped with minimal seating.
Characterful pub with good beer in a quaint alley in the heart of the City
Awesome place after work drinks near Fench church Street station
Lovely old wood panelled pub tucked away down back alleys in the city.
Nice pub but unfortunately not open on weekends
A pub with an enormous amount of character and history ruined by the fact it is crammed with gobby suits
Great place to enjoy a relaxing drink in a old London pub
Good beers, great for a pint outdoors after work.
Love this pub... a slice of old London in the heart of the city
Traditional old city pub, nice service.
Its just a pub which is very busy especially on a Friday. There's nothing Jamaican about it.
Great pub. Cosy wine bar downstairs.
Cracking little bar. Been in a couple times after work and been able to sit, chill out and have a pint.
Great staff and atmosphere
Absolutely buzzing on an early Friday evening. Great atmosphere to start your weekend
