Reviews of King Charles I
R. P.
Great pub, not far from Kings Cross. Some nice 1930's fittings in the bar. I had a couple of well kept cask ales. Worth a visit if you're in the vicinity.
N. R.
Very cosy pub that's just far enough from King's Cross to not get claustrophobic after work (during our visit at least). Gotta love any place with a "no sexists, no racists, no fascists" sign! Would say that the younger staff in the evening were a bit more welcoming.
K. W.
King Charles is a small but charming pub. If you're into late night music, or a great place to have a beer and network with people, this is the place to be. I stop in here for a pint every now and then, and the atmosphere and conversation with people from all kinds of background is always interesting. Service is excellent. Absolutely recommend.
b. c.
Great pub, quirky cool interior, fabulous atmosphere - a 'real' British boozer. Helpful and friendly staff too. Gets a little busy so get there early if you want a seat - highly recommend it.
A. L.
The most amazing pub ever! Outstanding atmosphere (with music nights, a nice fire in winter) great choice of beer and very friendly staff and customers.
C. S.
Very well priced beer, cool decor, and great atmosphere. Amazed by the popularity of the pub despite its size, however just spending a couple hours here it totally makes sense!
C. C.
Old school London boozer with tiny toilets and a great selection of beers. Both cask and keg, so something to please all generations. Just a 5 min brisk coddiwomple from Kings Cross, so well with a visit if you have an hour or two spare before that train ride to suburban misery.
E.
What a great pub! Nice and cosy community feel, great staff, live music, solid beer selection and a warm fire - Definitely recommend
T.
Really enjoyed this place, visited over the weekend and the weather was nice enough to sit outside. We were warmly welcomed and served promptly throughout the afternoon, even when it was quite busy. Beer was great and the prices excellent. Would defintely go back next time I'm in London.

Great pub on a quiet road near King's Cross St Pancras Station. 3 cask beers - including a stout - on tap when I visited. Very good jukebox. Some outdoor seating.
S. T.
What a lovely, authentic pub! Excellent service, cosy atmosphere. Looking forward to a return visit soon!
M. S.
Great place, traditional old fashioned pub and very good beer prices.
Well worth the visit.
D. S.
With the massive refurbishments of St Pancras and Kings Cross Stations, and the gradual gentrification of the surrounding area, along came plenty of shiny, soulless bar/restaurants. Thankfully some of the traditional boozers, like this one, have survived.
Situated on a side-street off the King's Cross end of Caledonian Road, it attracts mainly locals and afterwork drinkers. The compact, one-roomed bar quickly gets pretty congested and customers soon spill out onto the front pavement.
A decent selection of ales is normally on offer, together with a good range of bottled beers. Only snacks are available but the landlord is happy for you to order your lunch at the cafe over the road and the cafe owners will even bring it across to you. In the evenings the pub also allows takeaway deliveries.
A good alternative!
j. w.
Good beer, proper pub , not touristy , don't plan on getting a seat.
S. M.
A true gem of a pub. Within walking distance of King's Cross it boasts a fireplace, great selection of beers and a wonderful atmosphere. I can not recommend this pub enough
V. H.
Cozy boozer with a solid selection on cask and a handful on keg. If you want an old-school pub vibe in central London, look no further
T. C.
Good beer, good prices, proper pub in the heart of kings cross. Trust me you'll wish your train was cancelled every day just so you can go and wet your whistle.
N. H.
Lovely locals pub, friendly bar staff, and a good range of rotating beers. Plus a great Jukebox and the world's best stained glass window of Elvis Presley
J. K.
You can bring your own foods. We got a fish&chips at the diner across from the pub. Nice atmosphere. It seems popular among locals. I like it here.
D. S.
I visited this topic London real ale pub on Wednesday 13th October 2021
This pub is without doubt one of the top 2 CAMERA PUBS IN A 1 MILE RADIOUS OF KINGS KROSS RAILWAY SRATION
excelent beers on handpump excelent staff clientelle and a excelente pub to drink at
S. M.
My kind of pub. Quirky interior, good selection of beers, live music and professional staff
Recommended.
j. s.
Like everyone else has said, this is a great pub. It's off the beaten path, outside of the tourist areas so it's really got that local pub feel. If you are a tourist and want to experience the atmosphere of a small, real local English pub rather than the large chain pubs, head here.
L. C.
A classic pub. 100% fits me like a glove. Interior, music, exterior, beer, staff.... 11/10.

🍺 £3.90 Becks Vier
❤️ The King Charles I is just off the Caledonian Road and just a short walk from Kings cross station. This hidden backstreet boozer was a nice find, sometimes it pays off to go off the beaten track and this pub was no exception. From the outside the pub looks more like an estate pub and not very inviting but inside its a cosy affair with dark wood panelled walls and a welcoming fire. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, it almost felt like being in a remote country pub. The beer is reasonable too, £3.90 for a pint of Becks Vier in great value.
.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of kings cross and fancy a decent pint in welcoming surroundings, then get yourself to the Kings Charles I.

Well priced pints, staff are friendly and accommodating and the interior design is lovely-quite cozy though.
S. S.
Nice quirky pub, wish I had found you before The Thornhill Arms 🥱. Great jukebox reasonable prices friendly staff made you feel welcomed, we will be back as live local xx
G. S.
Friendly locals pub with good quality real ales available at sensible prices
D. R.
The term "Hidden Gem" gets misused a lot, but that is what this place truly is on a good night. During the day it can seem strange, but at night as you walk in the decor light and atmosphere all comes alive!
They have good prices and it appears they have a local scene, including unique live music jazz acts. Well worth seeking out.
j. k.
Lovely place, great staff, brilliant atmosphere. Pop down.
J. S.
Really nice pub with great prices. Would recommend.
A. A.
Is a lovely small pub, with a few seats outdoor seats. It has live music 🎶. It is in need off some renovation but I feel it adds to its charm.
P. “. F.
Lovely cozy and warm small pub.
J. S.
A hidden gem in Kings Cross. This is a really lovely small pub which gets busy due to how great it is. There is a jukebox which isn't too loud.
I cannot comment on the quality of the beer as I don't drink it.... But the patrons all looked extremely happy with their pints🍺👌
Try to visit if you can. If you want a modern pub with music blaring, this isn't the place for you. If you like a good old fashioned pub with a warm welcome, pop in and enjoy.
S. F.
Great little pub! Excellent jukebox!
L.
Wow, wow, wow. Stunning boozer just off the beaten track. Lovely in summer but expect it is amazing in winter owing to the beautiful fireplace. Good selection of beers and very rare to find Estrella Galicia on tap in this part of the world so a real bonus
S.
My favourite little local pub. Super cozy and lovely staff. Great live music too
H.
got a lovely jukebox inside. nice atmosphere.
s. w.
A dying breed in London let alone Kings Cross. Good beers, great service and friendly drinkers.
N. W.
Great beer, plenty of rotating guest ales at really decent prices. Always a welcoming atmosphere from friendly staff and locals, coupled with regulars from the surrounding businesses make this a busy, but enjoyable pub for a quick drink, or a session. And on these prices, a session won’t melt your contactless.
S. W.
Popped in for a couple of hours as we were staying in Kings Cross to catch an early morning Eurostar train.
Good old fashioned boozer. Nothing flash but decent beer, wine and gin. Friendly crowd of punters and very friendly bar staff. Would definitely recommend.
D. A.
Nice quaint little pub away from the hussle and bustle.
If your looking for a characterful pub with friendly staff. Often pop in around lunchtime for a drink. They have the daily papers, good food is available from a cafe over the he road.
The pub gets local business customers during lunchtime but is packed in the evening. The quiz night here is highly rated by all who attend.
L. O.
Classic old style pub. Fast service and excellent beer. Plus the highlight, a cracking jukebox
A.
A great, traditional pub, which is so traditional that unusually they don't serve food.
It's quite small but you can drink outside on the pavement too.
They do an amazing pub quiz which is well worth doing!
J. T.
King Charles I is a typical London "local" which is surprising given how close it is to King's Cross. Smaller than most pubs with only one bar it's a modest place, but very pleasant with it. The Barmaid was friendly and helpful, providing me with a sample before I decided on which beer to have. The four hand-pumps provided a choice including three beers I hadn't tried before so I had to see what they were like. Well worth the five minute stroll from King's Cross Station.
S. M.
Great pub tucked away far from the madding crowd. No TV, no food, no nonsense! Small but good selection of ales. Jukebox and lovely atmosphere whether busy or quiet. A relic by today's standards, keep this place alive!
T. C.
Top notch community pub. Does food arrangement.
J. L. K.
A lovely, cosy pub with fire near Kings Cross.
C. H.
A pub, frequented by locals predominantly is a world away from the pretence of most of the other pubs and bars in the area. It's a small pub with friendly staff and some great live music. I would happily recommend. What it lacks in decor it makes up for in every other way.
J. L.
Nice small pub. Basically a wood lined front room and a bar. Sells good beer from a few random breweries, not just the usual craft beers from Brewdog and Beavertown. Friendly bar staff, what more do you need?
E. P.
Lovely cosy pub with beer at a sub London price, definitely worth the short walk from St Pancras
C. S.
Cozy pub with friendly and excellent bar staff. Live music on the evening I attended was good and not too loud nor imposing. I could hear my friends and beloved speak which is why I go to a pub and not a club or live music venue. Keep it up! 🍻
A. B.
The most friendly, down-to earth place in Kings Cross. The atmosphere is always great and the staff so friendly. Would especially recommend to anyone who wants to experience a British pub that hasn't been gentrified or commercialised to death.
P. B.
I really like this pub, has a great community feeling. Mix of young arty types with mature locals. Security staff very nice and friendly. However bar staff need to learn customer service as come across dismissive & prejudiced. Ive visited a few times in past weeks and recently twice in one night the women bar staff ignored me at the bar. It is a small bar and so hard to not see customer standing there waiting to be served, especially when i was the only person. But they turn their back & pretend to be sorting glasses out. It's incredibly rude & hasnt gone unnoticed by my company. I complained last time i was there & landlord needs to improve their customer service .
J. M.
Awesome pub! Very well managed with very friendly staff. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a local pub with a variety of nights put on including quizzes, live bands and djs. Also ridiculously cheap and in the center of kings cross!
M. C.
One of the best pubs in London. Friendly staff, good selection of lager and real ales, great jukebox and you can 'bring your own food'. I love the King Charles. Up yours, gentrified Gastropubs!
Y. Y.
1st visit on a Wednesday evening. A proper old school pub. Everyone would feel comfortable. It was busy with the after work crowd, but thinned out at 7.30 to 8. Reccomended.
D. C. c.
Wow 😮
Awesome 🌟 🌟 🌟
S. F.
Good honest boozer
r. c.
Lovely pub and friendly staff.
E. P.
Lovely cosy pub with beer at a sub London price, definitely worth the short walk from St Pancras
G. B.
Quirky. Characterful. Good value. Found this place by accident just off the beaten track behind kings cross station. Quite compact but lovely lots of wood. Good selection of good value ales. And a juke box! I shall be returning ☺
J. T.
King Charles I is a typical London "local" which is surprising given how close it is to King's Cross. Smaller than most pubs with only one bar it's a modest place, but very pleasant with it. The Barmaid was friendly and helpful, providing …
P. T.
I love this pub, it's proper. Good beer on tap, doesn't cost the earth, dukebox. That'll do for me
R. W.
Proper little old fashioned backstreet boozer just north of King's Cross. Serves a decent pint of cask beer.
A. B.
Great pub we found after searching for a drink before a gig @ SCALA.
Served San Miguel and my wife wanted a fruit cider and they kindly served up a draft cider with a shot of blackcurrant nice touch. COOL. Will visit again when in the area.
C. M.
Great local, open fire, live jazz, and good beer at less than £4 a pint. Lovely atmosphere. What's not to like?
陈.
Company my husband here, good beer but not enough seats inside. Well, you can stand outside to enjoy the beer, if the weather is fine, it is also fantastic.
M. A.
Nice small traditional boozer with reasonable ale selection. Dropped in here one Tuesday to find ourselves in amongst a pub quiz hosted by a foul-mouthed Cupid Stunt-alike who was superb entertainment value.
B. S.
Love this pub. Old school but cool. Tucked down a quiet road in hectic Kings Cross. Could do with some better beers to choose from but other than that this is one of the best in the area.
P.
Brilliant little (tiny) boozer that's much nicer than anywhere near Kings X ought to be. Real fire. Great jukebox. Live music. Friendly staff. Owned by a co-op of regulars that couldn't stand to see it sold and clubbed together to buy it. Kind of amazing basically.
J. H.
There's a definite shortage of decent pubby pubs around King's Cross, and this is a rare exception - a no nonsense boozer. Some nice wood panelling, which looks fairly original, and quirky artefacts on the walls. They don't serve food (which is a blessing in my opinion, since almost every other pub in the area seems to be a gastropub nowadays), but they do have an arrangement with the cafe across the street - you can order food in there and the staff will bring it over for you. Interesting selection of real ales on tap which seem to change regularly.
R. M.
Superb small wood-paneled pub. The night we went had a great band playing. Some really tasty beer on pump.
C. B.
Proper old school pub with great selection of craft ale. Not too far from Kings Cross/St Pancreas. highly recommend 👍🏻
D. H.
Great atmosphere. Eclectic bunch of people. They are happy if you have food delivered and there is a great Thai close by. Manager is best described as being - unfriendly; but you will perhaps forgive his sense of ownership.
C. C.
Small but nice range of beers, open fire, friendly staff. You can also bring your own food or order food from the cafe across the road.
J. D.
Amazing community pub. Very small and cozy. Doesn't serve food but has a real fireplace and a Jukebox! A lovely place to spend a weekend afternoon.
R. W.
I love this pub. Co-op owned by locals. Great music. Too busy towards the end of the week. But catch it on a quiet night and you'll stay till close.
J. N.
Great crowd!
Regular familiar faces
The bar man Simon is always up for laugh!
Fantastically cheap drinks!
And some very talented musicians...
P. T.
I love this pub, it's proper. Good beer on tap, doesn't cost the earth, dukebox. That'll do for me
T. D.
Mad fun great staff and beers
J. M.
Amazing atmosphere, lots of banter, dogs welcome, and nice staff. Most memorable pub of the trip dues to it's authentic feel.
E. O.
danielle gave more than excellent service. the bulletproof bomb did an incendiary set. amazing place, brilliant staff, killer pub. would visit anytime i was anywhere near.
J. F.
Best pub. Period.
Good crowd, locally owned and run (by great people), great interior and decoration.
Regular live music performances. In short: Best pub.
S. M.
Unusual place. Authentically pickled in time. They serve good beer, have an esoteric jukebox and you can order pizza to be delivered from a local business to your table. What's not to like?
G. G.
Great little friendly pub on a side street off Caledonian Road. Good beers at a decent price and a great jukebox.
B. A.
Nice little local pub with local charm. Good to know that there are still places catering for the community and their needs rather than corporate chains with almost no character, but city pleasing accounting instead.
D. N.
Tiny, brilliant, remnant of old Kings Cross. Hard to see how this gem has survived. Presumably depends on its locals who must love it. Nice range of ales on hand pumps. Live music when we called in. Seek out King Charles I , well worth a visit.
A. J.
Great local - even for those not local as 5 mins from Kings X. Cash bar and real ale. Roaring fire, great juke box, wood panelled. Rubbish loo (can't speak for the ladies), but frankly, that helps keep the trendier crowds boxed in at the glittering bars nearer the station.
C. G.
Great walking distance, from my hotel. As an American everyone was cool and easygoing. One of my favorite sit on the sidewalk and have a beer pubs
G. R.
A gem of a pub in a highly gentrified party of the city. Cozy and full of colour, rich in personality. The Tuesday night pub quiz is hilarious.
G. G.
A proper boozer near to Kings Cross, but with a local, rather than commuter crowd. Decent real ales ways served fresh.
M. B.
Lovely little pub, great range of real ales, lovely atmosphere. Awesome music (I'm listening to A Forest by The Cure).
S. C.
A hidden gem - old school boozer with well kept real ale at sensible prices. Not full of annoying trendy folk like many other pubs in the area.
M. C.
Beer wasn’t awesome, and it’s incredibly noisy in there. Ears were ringing the next day and my voice was sore from having to strain. Interesting bunch of people though and there was live music on while we were there.
B. G.
Cracking pub really, very quiet when we went in initally but boy did it liven up within a few hours, lovely lady behind the bar that made us feel very welcome.look forward to my next visit in there.
S. L.
The star of the night was the quiz host, dressed in eclectic drag, calling a group of lads [redacted]s for singing along to Bowie's Changes. The Guinness was good, too. And cheap.
R. W.
Proper little old fashioned backstreet boozer just north of King's Cross. Serves a decent pint of cask beer.
l. e.
Found this place whilst coddiwompling. Great little local pub. 4 cask, 4 keg and 10 bottle beers. Friendly barman, reasonable prices and great music.
t. c.
Great community pub.
K. B.
Great little pub in a strangely large part of London bereft of them. Juke box bonus points. Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack on Juke Box - treble those bonus points!
J. R.
This is a madhouse. A great, obviously old-school King's Cross pub. With mad stuff hanging off the walls and ceiling, loud music (yeah, a little too loud for my vintage) and a young, vibrant crowd.
B.
Really cosy but not cramped, good selection of drinks, friendly staff and clientele, live instrumental music regularly. Overall great place to spend the night.
B. v. G.
One of the few pubs in central London with a good genuine pub atmosphere, reasonably priced beer, and always a good combination of real ales and some beers on keg.
P. J.
Excellent old style one bar back street boozer. Really friendly place to watch England's World Cup game. Thanks for the hospitality.
J. F.
A proper little pub with a decent selection of real ales. Gets quite busy after work, but great on a hot day with the outdoor seating
S. R.

L. A.
Great pub
P. M.
It was like walking into the set of the TV program Goodnight Sweetheart. Very compact, very crowded, but highly recommended. A real pub, serving real ale.
S. L.
The only old fashioned retro pub in Kings Cross that hasn't changed for decades. Small and perfectly unspoiled.
A. G.
Interesting back street pub not far from Kings Cross. Good beer, friendly staff and food from the cafe over the road.

Rough on the edges, but even more charming for this. Sort of unpretentious place where locals go. And on a Monday night live jazz!
F. L. T.
Super cool pub, traditional and modern in central London with very reasonable prices
D. S.
Community pub where they have strategies to cause layabouts to piss off so locals can happily drink and socialise in to the wee hours.
