Lovely ambience, good service..New menu from yesterday. Cod and triple cooked chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Classic burger with curly fries. Maybe a little more seasoning but good.

Lovely place. Went there with me wife and kids for brunch. Food was spectacular and the environment was great! Even the kids had a blast runnin around and poking innocent fun with the lovely staff! Not to mention, the drinks were lovely too! Would highly recommend, cant wait to visit again!

Absolutely wonderful bar, extremely well run with really friendly and helpful staff! Planning my event was effortless with Jordan taking care of all details and Jamie and the team running out flawlessly on the evening. Nothing was a problem, they were super attentive, helpful and kind despite it being the last Saturday before Christmas and very busy! Food came out on time and was delicious enjoyed by all guests. Was very surprised just how nice and easy going a plush bar in Upper Street could be, but this was it! Would definitely plan another event here in future. Highly recommend.

Came here with my mates a few weeks ago because we saw online they had happy hour, however we didn’t realise the post was 3 years old until the lady manager Kindly showed us. Although this was a disappointment they offered us a discount due to the inconvenience which was appreciated and seated us at a great table. The staff were amazing

Really please to find this in Upper Street. The burgers are super tasty and side portions are big, which is a bonus! They offer gluten free buns (really rare and massively appreciated) and have vegan options for all their burgers. A top hit that would please anyone. Staff were very friendly too and the space looks very cool and trendy. Definitely recommend!

Good place to chill with friends and you can even watch Wimbledon here. The lady at the bar is very helpful and welcoming. Though the chai tea I tried isn’t very good, their beer and cocktails might be nice probably?

I held a charity quiz in the mezzanine and the night was a success! A big part of the night was the great service from the staff, and big thank you to Duncan and Mirco for helping organise microphones and tables. I came here on Sunday 1st December 2019 for ATL Rapper Translee's listening party - I love Upper Street, and was a little bit embarrassed to say that I'd never been in John Salt before... This trendy unique bar was right up my street - The place itself was very spacious and dimly lit which provided the perfect ambience for the event I was attending. The staff were really polite and friendly, there was a very chill relaxed vibe in this joint. Whilst everyone was mingling the tunes were on point! I ordered the La Vie En Rose cocktail which was delish and came with raspberries *yum* Thank you for your service and my complimentary cocktail - I will definitely be returning here for cocktails and referring my industry friends this space for hire <3

A rather nice venue with a mezzanine and bar upstairs definitely not pretentious but rather down to earth. The downstairs area is fairly spacious and able to double as a dancefloor too. They have good seating as well as several large TV monitors. The bar staff were all very friendly and efficient and the drinks are reasonably priced. They have a small indoor uncovered terrace doubles as a smoking area. I attended on a Saturday night when they also had a DJ on the ground floor playing a mixture of Club Classics, Dance and Pop. An enjoyable night was had by us all. Certainly a place to visit with friends on a night out.

Came to John Salt a few weeks ago to watch the Euro semi finals England match. Out of all the pubs I visited during that time, this proved to be the best. They followed Covid rules, the pub wasn't overcrowded and the service was speedy. I remember a woman called Jamilla who really went above and beyond to make our experience great. She frequently checked in on us and made great recommendations for food and drink which we loved. We had a lovely chat with her and she even gave us some great suggestions of places we could go to after! Couldn't recommend this place more for watching sports or for a drink and food with friends.

Came in for some lunch the other day with 2 friends, we were greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated. we ordered drinks to start and they came out fast, we then ordered lunch and was very pleased with outcome, some of the best food I've had in a while. loved the atmosphere of the venue, staff and service were amazing, will definitely be coming back.

Really nice place to go for a drink. Really spacious place, lots of loos. They have a 2 for 1 cocktail during the week. Our bartender Eva, was absolutely lovely. We also had the spicy chips with garlic dip. They were nice. I had the whiskey maple cocktail. Was delicious! My other half had a pint of Guinness. Said it was great. They also have nice background music, not too intrusive if trying to have a conversation. Haven’t eaten a full meal yet but after the chips- they’re good. I’d be keen to try the food.

Super cool bar with great food and drink. The friendly staff help make a chilled, vibrant atmosphere. A friend and I ordered what we thought was a side (chips and dips) but turned out to be big enough to share as a meal, plus it was really tasty and inexpensive.

Been here a few times. The staff are very helpful. On busy nights if there is a confusion with orders they are very accommodating. The music is on the loud side of conversational and the atmosphere is good. I would say this bar is good for the 28+ age range. Cocktails are delish and strong

Right in the heart of London. Easily accessible with just a short walk from either Angel or Highbury and Islington. The staff are excellent at keeping up covid standards and so friendly. Large quantities of food for the price u pay and competitive priced drinks. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

We popped in here yesterday for a quick drink and we really liked it , I had a margarita cocktail (£10) and thoroughly enjoyed it , my partner had a cappuccino (£4) and said it was one of the best he's had. Staff were friendly. Definitely recommend a visit.

Went here as part of a private hire for a surprise birthday party on 03/05/18. Upstairs area was quite small but suitable for the amount of people that were in attendance. Food for the party was exceptional, especially the mini burgers. Customer service of Mirko who was behind the bar was outstanding and the doormen were very friendly. The bar had a nice atmosphere and the toilets were clean. Only downside was that the amount of space for upstairs was not enough to have room for a dance.

I spent a saturday night there and it was Awesome !! I took a buttermilk chicken burger and it was very delicious. The french waitress recommended me this one and it was a great choice. She also recommended me 2 good cocktails which were "La vie en Rose" and "Expresso Martini" and they were both delicious. The service really knows how to satisfy you. The music was good and the vibe was chill ! I will come back soon :)

Trendily decorated in a style that could easily be a little bit too much, but felt relaxed enough. Nice vibe. We went for a drink and a roast. The food was good, though not outstanding, and it was a nice experience. All quite nice. The 2-for-1 cocktails seem like a good reason to return.

I have walked past this pub for years and decided to grab a bite today - everything from the way we were received to the music was impeccable. The host Duncan Leigh recommended some burgers off the menu and boy was it magic!! I want this guys playlist the jazz fusion was just out of this world....John Salt and Sir Duncan Leigh you’ve been beautiful “I’ll be back” that’s both a promise and a fact!!!

Reasonable prices and relaxed atmosphere. Great selection of craft beers and a small menu that changes regularly. Specialises in its pork hash style food which surprisingly worked. It is different and tasty. The Skirt Steak was charred nicely and had a great flavour, as the cut has an irregular shape (or was not well flattened) I found part of it was a bit too rare, but mostly on the money. Will return to try some of the other bits on the menu, especially when not so hungover on a Saturday lunchtime. Been reviewed a lot recently in the press so in the evenings I would book. The bar seemed pretty good too. Nothing wrong with the service on the occasion I visited and sitting on the benches people seemed friendly...

This a decent spot to hit. Quiet during the week but livelier on Fridays, especially when the dj turns up. 2 4 1 cocktails between 5-7, beware though the cocktails are watered down. I've not tried the food but I know people that have and the reviews have not been good, but obviously try it for yourself. It's a spot to hit before the spot and that's it.

It's not difficult to say good things about John Salt. Actually, it's pretty easy. The food, the ambience...even the people there just make the whole thing work. I've eaten there a few times and the last time I was there it was for my best friend's birthday. As usual, the food was consistently good, as were the amazing cocktails. By the end of the night, the staff became part of the group, and the night just flowed smoothly all the way to closing time. Unfortunately, I was on a restricted diet that night, so I couldn't enjoy all my favorites from the food menu. Things you should order - Potted brisket, Green Chili Thighs, Steak (the cut varies so I can't be sure what's on the menu at the moment)

Great atmosphere, lovely staff and fab coffee. My friend and I had dinner and then were looking to have a tea/coffee somewhere else around 9pm. We saw the massive coffee machine and came in, ended up sitting there for over an hour.

I've been to John Salt a few times, twice to eat and once just for drinks. It has a good vibe, especially for drinking. Though, when ordering food you feel out of place, as there aren't many people eating during meal times. I have ordered the buttermilk chicken burger (surprisingly very spicy) and the mac and cheese burger (a little over cooked and just alright). Fries come with the burger and there are lots! My husband ordered sweet potato fries for £1, and it was worth it. The service has always been good and they have a fairly average beer selection. So, all in all, I would return for drinks but will find another place on Upper Street for burgers.

This is a really cool bar. It's pretty cave like with a high ceiling and a mezzanine level for dining. The DJs they have at the weekends are pretty decent and they're capable of mixing up a half decent cocktail or two. Only downside is that it get's very busy but it's no worse than anywhere else on upper street. A great place for a night out with friends.

Came here because I was nearby and had an office above it 18 years back (it was an All Bar One then). Ordered classic burger and a cappucino. Coffee wasn't hot enough to melt the sugar cubes. Burger took 23 minutes to arrive. It was lukewarm while the chips were burning hot. Staff were friendly. In the 80s we would have said they were "a bit OK yah". Food still tasted great

4 stars for the Manager & Service (super kind staff & security crew). 3 stars for the World Cup viewing experience: the location of the screen & set up isn't optimal for watching sports games. 2 stars for the wings as well (they're too sweet). Didn't try the burgers but they looked good!

This bar is a million times better than its predecessor - however it is still renowned for Essex girls and boys which puts me off slightly. The bar itself is really open with big tables - so I do like the decor and it has a little garden section out the back for smokers.

I can't wait to go to the restaurant because the bar is excellent. Gorgeously decorated space (industrial lockers, juke box) with a range of table sizes that would work for anything from an intimate date to a big group of friends. The cocktail menu is excellent, and their two-for-one deal until 8pm is Islington's best kept secret - you'd expect £3.50 cocktails in a tacky place, not somewhere dishing up delicious Aperol spritzes. We have a seafood feast every time we come here. Oysters, mussels, lobster, etc My favourite will always be the seared scallops and tuna tartare, it's always a double order for me. Service is great, as expected from a 5 star restaurant. My friend loved the burrata appetizer and her husband always orders the sea bass. Prices are high, be warned.

I went to John Salt for lunch one day with a friend. The restaurant is a rather large open space which felt a little empty on a Tuesday afternoon, but I can imagine when it's busy it has a fantastic atmosphere. The a la carte menu is great with a slightly more seafood-based selection, but they also have a pre-fix menu deal is a great option if you're on a budget. The staff were very friendly. I will definitely be going back to check it out for dinner one night.

The cocktails are the best I have had in Islington if a little pricy. I would recommend going for happy hour where they are usually two for one. It can get a little crowded and noisy on a Friday night but Saturdays are a bit quieter.

Thank goodness this was taken over! So much better than the predecessor. The food looks really good though I am yet to try, but I have heard very good things. The best thing is the 241 happy hour until 8pm but you don't see any reduction in the cocktail quality (as you do sometimes, I hope they sustain this), beware of the marmalade martini, it packs a mighty punch. Little tables and biguns means that it caters for groups too pretty easily. I think the decor has a teeny way to go but I shall frequent this much more often now! Pheww. UPDATE: I had popped there for food last night and it was very nice indeed! was a pleasant surprise...chicken with a lovely salsa, beans with creme fraiche, chargrilled corn and aperol spritz - wasn't too pricey either!

(Translated) We had the pleasure of coming to discover this place with a friend, the place is warm, well attended. In addition a small garden in the back yard can take the air but the must was the two French waitresses, super nice and very welcoming! They give very good advice in terms of cocktails: we must dare to be surprised. I also tested one of their Burger: nothing to say it was very good! I highly recommend this place! (Original) Nous avons eu le plaisir de venir découvrir cet endroit avec un ami, le lieu est chaleureux, bien fréquenté. De plus un petit jardin en arrière cour permet de prendre l'air mais le must c'était les deux serveuses françaises, hyper gentilles et très accueillantes ! Elles donnent de très bon conseils en terme de cocktails : il faut oser se laisser surprendre. J'ai aussi testé un de leur Burger : rien à dire c'était très bon ! Je recommande vivement ce lieu !
