Reviews of Mug House
B. M.
What a wonderful experience we had a few weeks ago at the Mug House. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere was most convivial. There were groups and couples all enjoying the Mug House and would recommend that it is worth finding it if you are around the London Bridge area.
I. M.
I've wanted to review this since December when we had dinner with friends here (for some reason the system would not let me access this pub to review!)
It's not much from outside but inside is another story...my husband loved the bar area and we all loved the restaurant section.
The place was pretty loud when we arrived so they put us in a lovely private room, but as it had glass surrounds you could enjoy the whole room, just a little quieter.
I had the vegetable en croute and it was one of the best en croute anything I'd ever had. My husband's sausage and mash was definitely a cut above the usual and our guests really enjoyed their meals too.
The staff were exceptional; warm, funny, knowledgeable and so well trained. They treated us like royalty. We liked it so much we are going back soon.

Nice pub with good beers. Slightly enthusiastic with cleaning fluid which was all I could smell. Probably not a bad thing in this day and age

Went for lunch as part of a group of six, it's a lovely relaxed vibe in a hidden location right underneath London Bridge. The food was excellent, and the wonderful Aberdonian waitress was efficient, kind & funny. A wonderful experience, and a perfect way to finish off our stay in London, something we've done several times now. Recommended.

Could The Mug House have the best sausage and mash in London? I reckon it has a good shout. I've tried much on the menu - the sandwiches and platters are especially good - but the sausage and mash is something special. The sausages are cooked to perfection, you get just enough mash, and the gravy is excellent. Even better, the selection of beers is great (you can get some in a tankard, which is a rarity nowadays) and the atmosphere is one of the best around London Bridge - usually not too crowded, comfy chairs, beautiful lighting. I'd highly recommend visiting here, even just for a drink, if you're around the London area.

A wine bar hidden within the southside structure of London bridge. One of the Davey's wine bar group. A small maze of passages with plenty of room. Good beer from a fairly small selection. However, plenty of wines, the point of the place and a good food offering available. Staff are friendly and helpful. The actual bar is tiny so some consideration for others is appreciated. A fine place to have a drink.

This pub is absolutely amazing!
I booked a table here because of the convenient location, never having been here before I wasn't sure what to expect.
The pub entrance is hidden right under the bridge and is much larger than I had anticipated. It has a gorgeous, traditional atmosphere with wooden decor and stone plate flooring. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, the food was simply stunning. Very well presented and great quality. Especially their salted caramel panna cotta with pistachio brittle was absolutely amazing.
Definitely coming back to this one, and absolutely recommend a visit. Do book a table if you want to guarantee a space, though.

We went here for dinner. This is a seemingly tiny pub under an arch of the road that becomes London Bridge - take the stairs down on the west side near Pizza Express to find it. Inside, the pub opens up into a quaint and charming bar area with dining rooms to the side - much bigger than it first appears. Drinks were well-priced (100ml port for £5-6) and they had a great value dinner offer when we went. The main of fennel and lemon risotto with chilli was one of the best recent risottos I've had in London even compared to Italian restaurants. Fish and chips were perfect too with pea puree and tartare sauce. Desserts of sticky toffee pudding and chocolate hazelnut brownie were both delicious. Two courses were sufficiently filling for us. Service was very good although the waiter seemed a little too busy.
N. W.
Came here for the first time for a little day in London. What a little gem. The waiter was absolutely lovely, food delicious and a great ambience.would definitely love to visit again.
A. H.
Came for a half pint after the dungeons. Well worth a visit. Lovely little spot with lots of in door theming and friendly staff. 4 drinks for £12 quid (Half's and a coffee).
A. K.
Full Review on WineJam YouTube! Very cosy, dark wooden decor, old school english pub under the bridge. A good selection of wines that up there with fancy wine bars of London (extra star). Dinning area provided almost separately. Good for groups and for getting away from the London rush. No out side seating.
J. C.
Difficult to find with Google Maps as its under the A3 London Bridge viaduct just before it goes over the Thames. Worth finding. A small bar and restaurant lots of character, craft beer, good food, nice staff, all good.
S. C.
Hidden under London Bridge approach in Tooley Street, this is an atmospheric bar which has an interesting old World decor. They usually serve beer in pewter mugs but did not have any for this visit. There is a decent range of beers and spirits. The deeper part of the bar is a restaurant area.
m. c.
I really like this place, it's like a very old and real traditional English pub that serves my favorite crab and shrimp's Pasta in London. The waiter is always super friendly and attentive whenever I go and makes excellent wine recommendations! With the pasta he recommended Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and the experience was incredible. Whenever I can, I go to Mug house just to eat that delicious pasta with the good wine and to enjoy the excellent service.
W. C.
A really good pub to visit. Great selection of beer. A very cozy and quirky atmosphere. Quick service and friendly staff.
J. Y.
Great, cosy place hidden under the bridge. Nice decor, lots of seating, good food in generous portions.
Only downside - creepy music from the London Dungeons when you leave.
J. C.
Brought a visitor for dinner and food was absolutely amazing. We got the mushroom soup as starter, fish as main and sticky toffee pudding and poached pear in red wine sauce for dessert. The service was great too with very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely return and recommend this place.
A. O. (.
Good beer, Nice wine and Great food.
J. B.
It’s still quite an unknown venue right in the throngs of the tourist traps around borough market and London Bridge station. It’s a really nice snug pub with a few decent ales and surprisingly goose island ipa. At the back as you get deeper into the bridge, a nice dining room with a competitive priced menu including a ‘build your own sausage and mash’ is available.
S. O.
Nice pub, Mostly tables and chairs seating, could do with some nice sofas. Quite quiet in the early evening and no music which is great for having a catch up, though it gets busier and louder as the evening goes on. They also have an area for dining and do nice food too.
G. H.
An absolutely splendid lunch in a nice quiet relaxed atmosphere after the hustle and bustle of the Tower of London. Food was excellent, great wine and a lovely tawny and white port to finish. A return visit is definitely on the cards!
C. H.
Maybe because it is tucked away and harder to find than most pubs in the London Bridge area, this little gem is a great place for after work drinks without the ubiquitous loud music or Sky Sports blaring in your ears. Decent beer and wine selection, a nice decor and a generally charming place to go for a drink.
L.
Nice place under London bridge, which seems to be more quiet than the other surrounding pubs. Lots of character, lots of wine to choose from.
They also do food which I may try next time as the table next to us had some brought over and it did look good!
A. S.
Lovely little hidden gem in the bustling part of borough market area. Hidden under the coaches. It's cosy and characterful. We were there as a party and had a table in the restaurant are at the back. Service was prompt and food was good. Range of drinks here was really good as was the wine list. I hope to return to add further to Thai review at some point soon.
T. B.
A bit unusual, very old, subterranean, vaulted place but I will definitely be back. 4 * rather than 5* as I'd have liked the choice of a few more beers, but that's subjective anyway. I'd recommend you give it a go and make your own mind up 😉
D. w.
Really nice pub to visit on the tourist trail on the south bank. Both times I've popped in have been weekday afternoons around 2-3pm and it's been fairly quiet but busy enough that there's a nice atmosphere.
Lovely decor inside makes you feel like you're stepping back in time.
This one is fast becoming a favourite of mine on my frequent visits to London.
M. T.
Fabulous food and service. Very cosy little pub/restaurant, absolutely loved it. Will return when in the area and recommend to friends! You get what you pay for, our starters were delicious and my sirloin steak with mushroom and whisky sauce was to die for! The flour less chocolate cake was amazing- and the wine wasn't bad either😉
D.
Nice friendly pub serving good beers and ales
A. C.
Located under the original London Bridge, was actually pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. Huge empty barrels scattered everywhere, there are little nooks and crannies all over this hidden restaurant. Decent wine and very decent food, this has now become my go-to place for a good feeding. Feels like a little piece of historic London, preserved and still open for business.
J. C.
Charming little pub tucked away under the arches near London Bridge. Full of character but without being a tourist trap.
Prices standard for the area. Staff super friendly and decent food to boot.
Many beers and a few good wines as well
D. R.
Great Davy’s bar under London Bridge. A real treat during lunch hour. Couple of pints of Greenwich Meantime Pale Ale along with bangers and mash, perfect! Staff are super chilled and helpful. “Can I charge my phone?”, “Yeah just pop in it where ya can”. Very efficient and great quality. Highly recommended.
S. S.
Great olde worlde pub and wine bar with bistro style menu and drinks. Near the station and good atmosphere. Not too crowded and they have cosy booths to hide in if you want! Highly recommended:)
M. A.
Good atmosphere but definitely no cheese plate. Very mean portion of cheese and poor variety accompanied only with 9 grapes. It was priced as £10 but with a bit better selection and more generous portion would not mind to pay a bit more. When asked for a bread received half burned pide bread almost same as corner kebab shop would serve and would be acceptable. I would expect some sort of artisan bread then would not mind to pay twice more.
D. C.
A lovely Davey's wine bar hidden underneath London Bridge. Ideally situated for London Bridge station. For those that don't know, the Davey's chain has a wide range of wine at reasonable prices (for London anyway) there's often bin end bargains available. Beer choices ok but not the main point of coming here. There's a good food menu although I've not tried it. The wine bar goes deep under London Bridge so no phone signal (great) and the WiFi was very poor.
H. R.
Nice vibe candle lit and cosy, they really could do with a better music selection to give more atmosphere though... some chilled piano rather than pop music. Food was great - wild mushroom risotto and fish and chips. Both satisfied and nice wine selection.
O. S.
Great little place. Only been here for drinks, good wine and beer selection. Cozy atmosphere, but quite dark so would probably not come here in the summer.
M. M.
Warm welcome by staff and lovely warm heating. Both appreciated as it was chilly outside. Was offered a wine taster before deciding which one I liked. Comfortable chairs. Will certainly return.
C. D.
I can't believe how nice and quiet this place is especially because where it is located!! It is a hidden gem! Very nice selection of sherry and wines, the beautiful decoration setting out makes it extra special. A nice and private place to go when you are in this region. 👍🏻
W. J.
Old school pub with old wooden decor, cosy. Has a good wine list better then some of fancy wine bars in London bridge. Good for groups, Does Dinning, a classic English pub.
C. P.
No real ale and no suggestion of it re-appearing
D. M.
Really great pub. Well hidden beneath the arch of London bridge. Its just a door in the wall but comes as a real surprise when there is so many rooms and such space. It's a very clean neat pub with a lovely bar and lots of places to sit and the quietest place in the area nk sound at all of the local hubbub. A short walk to london bridge station for tube and train. And steps next to the door to go up to london bridge.
T. M.
Lovely, cosy and friendly pub a stone's throw from London Bridge. Hidden underneath the arches, it's never too busy and you can always reserve a table if you need to. Good selection of ports and Madeiras.
R. B.
Lovely old school pub. Good selection of wines and decent food. Closes early during week so don't be caught out. Great choice for a cold night
F. F.
This place under the bridge is a cute litle pub with tons of character. I only went one but I will certainly go back. Great ale selection and friendly crowd. Be warn, no cell reception, you go there and you truly isolate yourself from the evil outside world, amazing!
C. P.
Fantastic! We had a lovely meal with great food, beer and service. It is under the bridge, so was interesting to find. There was a great atmosphere even though it is underground. Would recommend.
E. L.
Standard pub. Good place for a drink after work, quick bite to eat.
Food was mediocre. Wouldn't recommend for a proper night out but great for random dinner/drinks out
L. C.
Excellent selection of in-house brewed beer served in pewter tankards and great selection of wine. But bit pricey.
Reasonable pub-grub style food too.
N. L.
Great place. Taken there by friends otherwise would never have known it existed beneath London Bridge. Fantastic food and decor just lovely.
J. H.
A typical Davy's wine bar pub. Low ceilings and warm atmosphere. The Gouguenheim Malbec 2017 is excellent and reasonably price at just under £30.
P. P.
A local hidden gem. But is this permanently closed now?? Went yesterday and found it shut. Called the listed phone number but no answer either.
A. W.
Lovely setting under the bridge. Food and wines great. Knowledgeable waiters re wine. Delish sticky toffee pud!
B. S.
Very cool, old school British pub. Cavernous feel, strangely a lot more space than one would expect. Good cold beers, food looked acceptable for a pub.
S. M.
Really like it. Whenever we come to Guys Hospital, this is the place we go for lunch. Admittedly, you expect typical pub-grub - but they go much further.
J. M.
Great decor, and some quality food.
M. A.
Reasonable decent London boozer. Good location. Nothing special in terms of ambiance or beer selection. Plenty of room.
W. T.
Hidden bar under London Bridge. Not very busy so it can be easy to get a table. Reasonably priced, no signal but they have WiFi.
M. L.
Interesting decor. Great wine selection. Getting served was challenging, and many of staff seemed miserable
C. P.
Hidden away, no phone coverage but good old atmosphere and wine list. Fantastic option for the area. They also do proper food.
B.
Always liked this place - staff pleasant and helpful - beer choice small - but always a good pint
H. G.
Really nice chilled place, great wine list, nice cosy atmosphere, I recommend and will visit again!!

Delicious prawn linguini and the cheese platter was generous enough for 3 of us to share - very helpful service and a great venue
S. N.
Place is good for a quick refreshing ale 😄
M. D.
Good beers and characterful building. Food pretty standard. Good service for large groups.
J. T.
A little hard to find ... easy when you know how! (need to go under where google maps wants to take you? But worth it when you get there, friendly staff and good atmosphere!
R. C.
Rude staff, nice food and atmosphere. Staff are always rude. I always take friends and family to this place and staff serving are always abrupt and rude. I complained directly to the place before and heard back from the manager but things don't change. Nice food and atmosphere though.
M. A.
I have been there with my family and it was an amazing night. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.
B. #.
Subterranean bunker with an eclectic selection of wines and craft beers. Sticky bar top. Vulnerable to group bookings.
S. B.
Bit of a hidden place and not too busy as a result. Great atmosphere, food was good, and friendly staff.
R. M.
Nice pub, slightly off the touristic path so not crowded and cool even on a hot day.
S. C.
