Reviews of Narrowboat

Great spot, a small but tasty menu! I would have given it a five but I did find we had to keep flagging the staff for attention. Not that it took much and can be a struggle to find that balance. That said I would def go back and would recommend it.
A. P.
Ox cheek croquettes for starters and smoked duck breast with gnocchi were both pretty good. The service was friendly but they seemed a bit swept of their feet. Would also recommend avoiding sitting right at the back since you’ll get a cold breeze anytime someone goes onto the balcony!
G. R.
Lovely pub next to Regents canal. Small out door terrace. Great beer selection and lunch menu looked interesting, I had the Steak.
Service was amazing and the Canadian Geese provided entertainment as the dived for their lunch under the canal.
J. S.
Delicious food, big portions and friendly staff. Interesting choice of beers and cocktails. Very nice balconies to sit in and have a drink overlooking the canal on the 1st floor. Will definitely come back.
M. B.
You have to visit for a Sunday roast, or for one of the many other great food options from the menu. Go for a catch-up with friends, with a glass or 2. Amazing staff, great food, superb location. We can't wait to visit again soon.
B.
My favourite pub/cafe in London. It’s cozy and the location is wonderful. The drinks and food are also inexpensive. They have a selection of board games to enjoy with friends. The music is very ambient and not too loud so it’s a good place to talk or do some reading or work. In the summer, it’s lively to sit out on the balcony. The interior is tasteful and warm. The toilets are clean and the staff is very nice and helpful. I come here often every chance I have when back in London. After the pint or coffee m, enjoy the rest of the walk by the canal.
J. V.
Wonderful location, specially on a sunny day when you can sit outside. Drinks good, hamburger nice, sausages were too hard
K. A.
Absolutely loved this place, as did my daughter on a beautifully sunny summers day.
It was very busy however the customer service was excellent given the circumstances, and one of the waitresses made the my daughter very happy with their little convo 😊
The icecream/juice we ordered made our day, and with very reasonable prices given the location and venue was a good vibe.
5* Would recommend 👍🏼
C. R.
Great little pub overlooking a canal and boats so the views are fantastic the food is typical pub food pretty good and the service was excellent
A. N.
Amazing gin cocktails. Amazing location. Reduced one star for the food which was good but not great. But a definite visit. Amazing blues music playing.
L. N.
Definitely a hidden gem! Getting here from along the canal is nice little walk, the views from the window seat is peaceful, and food here is not too bad either.
m.
One of my favourite comfort pubs in London. Super relaxed vibe, good quality food and beautiful canal views. Fast, kind, efficient and helpful service. New brunch menu on Saturdays is a welcome addition. Tried the hummus and avocado crudite with fries and definitely recommend as a vegan yet super tasty choice.
A. B. (.
Our first visit here and we can highly recommend It. Friendly staff, fab food and looks out over the river. Hubby had Steak and Oyster Pie with horseradish mash and vegetables, followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ice cream. (Pie was amazing) I had rib eye steak, rocket with cherry tomatoes and triple cooked chips followed by Apple and BlackBerry crumble and cardamom custard. Best rib eye I've had for ages. All very delicious. Will definitely return.
M. O.
Big portion of really delicios Sunday Roast beef or chicken options. Maybe some extra gravy would have good to have but I think you could have ordered extra if you want too.
They have an open balcony outside in 2 sections which is offers a very nice view to the canal.
M. B.
Nice place, right by the canal, you can almost feel like being on a boat. The food was great, portions quite big. The only downside was that soem staff members were quite unhelpful and at some point plain rude.
J. B.
If you are in Islington and havnt been here you are seriously missing out! This little gem sits overlooking Regants Canal and is a beautiful little spot for lunch or a quick afternoon drink. The staff are very friendly and the food is lovely, can't complain at all!
T. C.
From the moment we walked in the door Reece was the perfect host, accommodating us even though we hadn't booked. The experience only got better from there, delicious food, lovely drinks and an amazing atmosphere created by a lovely team behind the bar. Dan was very helpful when there was a mix up with the trout and Reece incredibly helpful throughout, couldn't do enough for us.
You're amazing, thanks for a lovely evening, keep on keeping on you absolute stars.
N. J.
Nice view, fun pub quiz and great choice of beverages!
W. Z.
Was here last night. Absolutely lovely place. The manager (I’m sorry I’m really bad with names) just couldn’t do enough for us. We hired downstairs and he didn’t stop. There is a massive difference with someone trying to be nice and someone being nice. He and his team are absolutely lovely. Thank you for making me and my family welcomed.
W. T.
The staff were great (if a bit ignorant of what they were carrying and who it might be for but that’s always sortable). However food was not great for the price. Fish and chips looked good, burgers average, Katsu burger had obviously been microwaved. Camembert was great. All however being charged at a premium. Would probably return for a drink, but probably wouldn’t return for food unless standard was more consistent or prices reduced.
Update: had such nice follow up that upgrading this to a 4.
J. V.
Awesome brunch, lovely ambience with nice view and helpful staff.
Great place to hang out with friends
J.
Very friendly staff, very welcoming!
Lovely balcony area to sit and gaze upon the canal.
Very clean and great atmosphere.
T. S.
Good food. Fire place. Views. Dogs. So many cute dogs! Vegan friendly (thanks!) and really nice staff. And very importantly, clean toilets. Good job, Narrowboat. ⛵
A. R.
Fantastic pub by the canal, would definitely recommend! Great customer service, thank you Reese, that made us feel welcome! Great food, Fish and Chips more like Whale and Chips, how big it was! Will definitely come again!
C. V.
Nice environment, good food and friendly service. A great alternative to the polished hipster pubs in the area.
H. D.
We hosted an event at the Narrowboat the day after our wedding. They were really helpful in setting up the event and service was great on the day! The location is lovely and the food and drink were very good.
E. G.
Much better experience this time. Dan and the team clearly took our review seriously, took on board our issues and cared about all the problems we had last time to really ensure that we had a really good time. The staff were all lovely and the food was very good too.
A. J.
Lovely pub next to the canal
Interior is pretty. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Location is great. After meal having a walk is the best.
Definitely will come back with friends again
M. P.
Beautiful setting, lovely views and a bright, clean and welcoming interior.
Friendly lady who saw us in and showed us to our seats.
There were no lunch menus out, we arrived aground 1pm and didn't want to eat a full, cooked meal as it was boiling outside. We asked a waiter and he was happy to get us the lunch menu.
We both ordered steak sandwich with fries which came in lovely sourdough bead but it came toasted which was not to my liking, just a personal preference. The steak was tough, which was the reason for 3 instead of 4 stars. Whilst it came nice and rare as we like, it was chewy and cold in the middle.
The fries were nice and crunchy, the food was presented nicely.
I would try again, to experience one of their mains in the evening.
A. W.
Great setting for a drink or some lunch with a trendy feel and excellent views of the canal
J. H.
Great pub with a great menu for vegetarians and vegans! Tried the vegan fish and chips... Good effort to replicate the fish but taste was not quite there. Will be back again for sure though for the lovely atmosphere and triple cooked chips!
g.
Nice atmosphere here on the canal and nice pint and good menu a bit pricey on the food side however this is prime location in London so if you want a nice place then you have to pay a few pounds more but as I said lovely pub.
S. E.
First ever visit, and arrived 30 minutes early because transport was unexpectedly on time. Even though they weren't technically open, we were made welcome and shown to our pre-booked table on the balcony overlooking Regents Canal. Great choice of wines and excellent food. The staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back when we are next in the area
P. M. N.
Great little gastropub with good beer, good selection of food (and fish the size of a dolphin) and friendly staff. Outdoor balcony seating overlooking the canal. Very enjoyable evening.
E. G.
Fabulous food and views. Perfect on a spring/summer afternoon. Highly recommend.
D. T.
Great food, friendly staff and made my dog feel very welcome. She got a bowl of water and a nice treat. We shall be back.
l. m.
Nice setting on the regents canal with some balcony tables. Bar staff are friendly and good selection of beer both keg and cask.
L. B.
Absolutely great food and super friendly staff. Their small outside balcony is great for lunch with your partner 😊
A. I.
Lovey Sunday roast in a nice place, Nicolas the waiter is been so lovely with us and very professional, very happy with the service.
Thank you!
G. F. V.
Great location but otherwise overrated. They didn't have some key dishes in the menu and nonetheless made us pay a small difference after replacing the unavailable option with something different. Slightly pricey as well taking into account is no more than yet another pub.
P. G.
Good food and lovely atmosphere: nice view and music selection.
Too bad no National tunes were played, despite being a staff favourite :)
A. B.
Lovely gastro pub, overlooking the canal, which is beautiful. The crab salad was very bitter, could get improved. The carrot soup was really delicious. Service was friendly.
L. T.
I love this place. When I lived at Wenlock Rd, at the building on the corner, opposite the Narrowboat, I used to go there almost daily. I have spent many hours of my life at The Narrowboat, Regent's Canal... The best place for relaxing, reading, writing, having lunch or dinner, tea, coffee, drink, or having a party. The Narrowboat, is pure English. The staff, is wonderful and international... from Australia, Portugal, Poland and, of course, from UK... I miss the place when I am away, but I always go there when I'm back... Yes... I'd fully recommend ''The Narrowboat, Regent's Canal'' for anytime!
L. C.
Lovely pub next to the canal! Great food options and good prices.
R. M.
Really nice local pub with excellent staff and a great selection of beer and lovely views of Regent's Canal. Staff really know what they are doing and make an effort especially with our dog bringing her water and treats. I asked if dog was OK and they said "more than OK. Didn't eat but food looked decent. Will be back.
D. C.
Great service, fast and efficent. Fish and chips delicious, i will come back as soon is possible.
C. W.
Wonderful food and beers, friendly service, amazing atmosphere and views. A great place to slow down to enjoy a meal and some drinks.
J. F.
Lovely little gastro pub, if you're lucky enough to get a balcony table, great view of the canal and ideal spot in the sun. It's small inside but nice atmosphere. Good food menu and beer selection - would highly recommend.
A. H.
Had a wonderful night as it was a friend's birthday
We had the downstairs
r. d.
A lovely find, hidden away not too far from Old Street Roundabout where we used to work. Worth the wander up the road for a cheeky pint and lunch. Great staff, stylish throughout and definitely recommended. I miss working on Old Street mainly because of those walks up to The Narrowboat for lunch hour (or three).
J. S.
Great pub with good food and selection of drinks. Good service and lovely view of the canal. Walk from Angel Station along the canal is lovely too!
C. M.
The burger was about as good as McDonalds (which isn’t actually that bad). Nice location and staff friendly.
A. V.
Staff were kind but they weren't very helpful as they were very busy and took time to pay attention.
The sweet potatoes are tasty and also the ice cream is tasty and big portion.
s. g.
It's a great pub, but its not a boat!
R. H.
Good service and even gave treats to our two dogs. Nice roast dinner but nothing mind blowing and beef was a tad overdone!
G. S.
Outstanding service excellent menu realistically priced. With great views of the Regent's Canal
F. F.
Food is very good, but as they are small your reservation tends to be quite short. The location in the canal is super charming. If you are luck to sit at the little balcony, you can really enjoy the canal's atmosphere.
M. F.
Great place for Sunday Roast beside the canal!
J. C.
I really enjoyed my vegan Katsu Chikn burger . Friendly front of house and waitress. Lovely balcony /canal vibes. Vegan food much better than it was a few years ago.
M. A.
Beautiful pub with fantastic (but limited) outdoor seating that overlooks the canal. Service is a tad slow when busy, but the friendly staff and nice atmosphere more than compensate.
P. A.
Our local pub. Like the ppl and the food. My dog also loves it. Stops every time we walk by
M. W.
This was to be one of our first meals out following the C19 lock down and opening of restaurants and pubs. Although we did benefit from the "Eat out to help out" deal I felt the food could have been a lot better.. overall the staff were friendly and helpful, but we visited on a very hot and busy evening so I feel this place would be a whole lot better on a slightly quieter day. Location is great though with easy parking if you're driving but its also accessible via local transport links and the canal side path with limited outside seating overlooking the canal and local area. It definately has an urban village feel that we all love. I would definately go again for more drinks. P.S. its dog friendly so one to remember when you told everyone you've gone to walk the dog and you still fancy a sneaky one.... if you know what I mean.. :)
H. T.
A great Youngs pub, lovely location and very friendly staff.
D. H.
A lot of new faces behind the bar but nothing wrong with that.
A friendly staff, friendly locals and visitors and usual.
L. H.
This is a lovely location, the team were brilliant, I had a great meal, the restaurant is dog friendly too, thank you for making me feel so welcome and fussing over Ollie. Thank you for your help with sorting taxi out after the first car was not dog friendly.
N. M.
Went here as this pub has never changed its name in all the many years that I can recall knowing it about 50 years+. I moved before I was the age of being allowed to go in. As I was revisiting the aera to show my husband my roots just had to go in. Nice outside seating area with views of the canal.
C.
Beautiful pub on the canal. Service was a bit slow but staff very friendly. We sat outside on balcony, perfect for balmy evening. Food was good.
G. B.
Food is good but not a lot of choice on the menu. You go there more for the scenery and being right on the canal which is really nice. Would recommend.
L. S.
We went to the Narrowboat on a Friday Night for food and drinks. A friend had suggested this place to us and raved about how good it was. I am so glad we spent our Friday night here as the food was delicious, drinks were professionally made and the service was absolutely brilliant. Nothing was ever too much for the staff and they provided us with exceptional service. I am so pleased we went to the Narrowboat for dinner, we will definitely be going back there!!
C. C.
Great canal-side pub with outdoor balconies. The food is great too. You can get takeaways pints and sit by the canal. Perfect for outdoor drinking.
S. B. T.
The food is very nice and the best thing is that they accept dogs in the pub!
P. L. Q.
Cozy pub near the canal. Excellent for outdoor refreshments in sunny days. A bit pricey.
B. W.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. You can walk in from the canal, and should do so if you have time to spare for a drink
S. S.
My partner had the fish and chips which he said was great! I had the vegetarian burger which was made of lentils I think? It was ok but just really mushy and fell apart. I think if they would have cooked it longer it would have been firmer. The sweet potato fries were amazing. The service was excellent - our waiter was so friendly and welcome. Great place, good ambiance. I would go back for sure!
M. P.
Fun pub with a terrace. Views of the narrowboats, very serene place to enjoy a beer or glass of wine on a sunny day in London!
M. J.
Dan and the team was warm and welcoming :)
It was our small wedding reception and we had unique experiences, highly recommended and if you are thinking about hosting a small gathering, Narrowboat is the best place to visit!
S. P.
Passing by and decided to pop in for a Bloody Mary. I like my Bloody Mary to be very spicy and darken by lots of worcestershire sauce and so that is what I asked for and that is what I got. DELICIOUS! Nicely seasoned with celery salt around the brim Very happy 😋
l. p.
Great pub, good food amazing service.
R. C.
First time visiting after searching for a dog friendly pub. Absolutely loved it here. Beautiful pub with great views of the canal. It's described as cosy but is actually very open and airy with a decent amount of space. Staff were wonderfully friendly and sweet. Food was delicious and of very lovely quality. Really good portion sizes at a good price. Only slight downside was the beer being over £6 a pint so wouldn't have spent an entire evening in there but perfect for a casual lunch.
D. d. C.
Totally adorable welcome, when not quite open yet ( the Victoria Mori gallery doors closed to us, we booked our lunch for 90mns later!) Relaxed ambiance, easy simple menu, very small tables with plunging view on canals, and the last warm sun of September...great! And the warmth of the service even better...A lovely place, lucky locals
A. (.
Nice pub but they definitely need something more for vegetarian options, it’s literally in Angel…
B. B.
Excellent service. I accidentally shattered a glass on the table and on my food and they removed the plate and replaced it and cleaned up so fast and were extremely hospitable about it. Such a nice relaxing pub/restaurant and the trout is very good. The service today really was FIVE STARS
G. D.
Food was nice, X steak comes t just the way I ordered it. Staff were helpful. Location would be lovely if it wasn't a rainy winter evening. I expect this place is packed when the weather is different, seeing as it was fairly full on a weekday evening with rubbish weather. Highly recommended.
J. M.
I agree with other reviewers of this pub. A beautiful space and location overlooking the canal. The menu looked promising but when the food arrived it was very average. The staff were friendly, but the service overall wasn’t great. Parts of our order were forgotten and we had to remind the waiters several times to correct this. I would come here again for a drink with friends, but not to eat.
K. S.
Lovely location, some real ale and craft on tap
M. L.
Lovely View, great service.
Good Sunday Afternoon Pub
E. A.
Fireplace and wine and dogs and nice canal view. Tot tier. 🥇
T. H. G. O. B.
The portions have become smaller post-covid. Their sticky toffee pudding was banal. They stock one of my favourite ales - Proper Job by St. Austell's brewery.
A.
Pretty cool to socialize and have a nice time and chat with friends!
H. C.
Good food but it was so busy that we struggled to get table service all evening
J. D.
Great location, could happily while away an afternoon on one of the balconies overlooking the canal!
T. L.
Been here a couple of times and have enjoyed each visit. In the summer it's got a lovely view of the canal from the top balcony and is a great way to enjoy the weather, out in the sun. It's very popular so expect the place to be very busy and space is at a premium.
The food on offer is also good. It's nothing exceptional but it's good value for money and much better than most pub/grastro-pub food.
Service is excellent - friendly, efficient and helpful.
L. A.
Quite nice to sit outside overlooking the canal. I really wouldn't recommend the food though, burger bun was stale and burgers are pretty thin.
P. S.
Excellent atmosphere, food and service, highly recommended
S. M.
On a busy and very hot Sunday we were lucky enough to get a dog friendly spot outside for 4. We ordered the vegetarian roast of the day. It was very tasty and we enjoyed the meal. Some of our party got their food bits at a time which was unusual but overall not bad.
A. B.
Came on a Sunday and had booked a beautiful balcony table. The Roast dinner was delicious! I highly recommend this pub for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I. N.
This very nice pub is conveniently located and has two balconies to see the Regent's Canal at your foot step. OK draught and bottled beer selection. Staff is responsive and polite. I'd definitely come more often :)
C. W.
We had one if the best Sunday roasts ever here! Huge portions, cooked to perfection. Highly recommend visiting this beautiful pub overlooking the canal. It's prime location and small space means it gets very busy so book ahead if you don't want to wait.
A. S.
I live around the corner and this is my favourite pub in London with great views of the canal. Can get busy and service can be under stress but they know us well and always look after us. Selection of beer including craft beers are good but the food can be average. Good selection of wine too.
T. J.
Great pub and love the place! They have got the fish 'n chips perfect. Batter is crisp and golden with fish being perfectly cooked. Washed down well with a few pints after. Little pricey but hey, look where it is and look what you get!
E. L. J.
Good food, friendly attentive staff
G. P.
Held our wedding reception at The Narrowboat with close friends and family (approx 20 pers). It was absolutely perfect! The space was ideal in size and the overall setting was spot on. Above all, I wish to thank the staff who helped us from reservation to table service, they have been so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. This made the occasion even more special and memorable! Only recommendation, I would have preferred the sharing platters to be more like finger food and less like salads, although they were nicely presented. Drinks were great, as well as the non-alcoholic punch. Can't wait to return and would certainly recommend.
X. P.
Friendly staff. A good place for a saturday/sunday lunch then few drinks with friends. Nice view om the canal.
R. C.
Lovely roast friendly and helpful staff. Great atmosphere.
A. S.
Very nice canal side pub and restaurant with a good menu and friendly, helpful staff.
D. G.
Great venue on the canal. Nice food and great drinks. Try and get a seat on the terrace which basks in the sun, and watch the boats go by.
P. L.
Went for a work lunch and was able to call ahead with our order to make sure we wouldn't have to rush. The restaurant is really beautifully decorated, and it has a lovely view overlooking the canal. The bathrooms are covered in funky comic strip wallpaper too that I really liked. Our group had a mix of things from the menu and everyone was really satisfied. For me, the fish-finger sandwich was one of best I've ever tasted.
C. J.
This pub has a lovely location and the staff are friendly. Dogs are welcome too which is great. It has always been a must visit when we come to see my mum who lives around the corner, mainly for the triple cooked in truffle oil chip's. Unfortunately this time they were not great. No longer skin on hand cut chips but frozen chips. They did not taste of truffle oil and the grated cheese was sparce. Perhaps cost cutting or time saving as it does get busy, but it will mean we don't need to rush back for these again. Still a nice pin for drink and staff/service though.
R. T.
Great pub with lovely food and a class balcony overlooking the canal.
Wanted to express my gratitude to the fantastic staff at the Narrowboat. I made a very last minute booking for 25 people and we were welcomed with open arms and looked after to a very high standard. The pub was busy as it was but everything went smoothly and all of us had a blast.
Thank you Jitka, Martha, Renata and Hayley - you are great staff and the place is lucky to have you!
D. M.
This is a nice place next to the canal. So close you can see it while sat on the balcony. Perfect place to sit o. A sunny day or even just to buy a few drinks and sit by the canal near by. They serve food to a good standard although I have not tried the full menu...... Yet. 4 stars and I was almost going to put 5. Just the price of drinks that stopped me. But you pay the price for the area you are in.
O. C.
I had a lovely evening at The Narrowboat with my family. The food and drink menus are very good, with plenty of choice (there is a nice selection of real ales if you are into your beer). The staff were very friendly and attractive. The location by the canal is also fantastic.
A. M.
Excellent food and drinks the service a little slow at times but great overall
I. C.
Lovely pub with great views. Very dog friendly (we went with a group and had 5 dogs with us). Sunday roast has vegetarian and vegan options. Unfortunately only few non-alcoholic drink options. Staff wasn’t very friendly
S. G.
First time here & we went for a birthday family sunday lunch with 6 of us. Roast chicken, pork belly and beef were good choices. But overall not at good as expected, artisan bread board for 6 with 3 plates (?) - few slices of what looked like bloomer bread with 2 oils and enough olives for 2 each very overpriced at £12. Couple of other probs one with wine, one with a meal, dealt with promptly but our waiter didn't interact with us or any other table near us & wasn't very apologetic over the 2 incidents. I'd try this place again during the summer and on the normal menu just to see if we picked an off day.
D. N.
Great canal side pub and grub in the Angel area of London. Always enjoy sitting on the balcony overlooking the canal when the weather is good. Food is also excellent, but expect to pay London prices. Staff are pleasant and efficient.
R. G.
A lovely pub to stumble upon on a rainy day! Very cosy and welcoming with lovely views of the canals. Excellent service from the staff and a very tasty menu! Will definitely return :)
M. N.
Quick pint. Well kept. Nice pub
G. 6.
The hefty price of a pint is worth the historical value of this property.
R. R.
Nice pub on two floors, accessible from the Regents Canal towpath. It has had a major refurbishment since I was here last. Decent beer, good food and service. You can sit on a balcony overlooking the canal, which is great when the sun is shining.
T. R.
Light and spacious venue with a view on Regents Canal. Good selection of food and beverage makes it a great spot for a weekend brunch, afternoon coffee break or an evening meal. The food is decent, but by no means exceptional and the service is very slow. We spent a pleasant afternoon here, but waited for at least half an hour to be served.
v. b.
Great for Sunday roast. Beautiful Outdoor seating for summer overlooks canal. Indoor fireplace makes for a cosy experience. Manager was present and always helping out. Compliments to him!
A. H.
Love this pub so much. The food is so great, I’d say almost a religious experience. Gorgeous view over the canal, very homely and the staff are super fun.
T. J.
Not a great spot for travelers. Cute location, but not very hospitable. Bar staff rushes you to order and close out. Maybe good for locals? Would not recommend.
n. m.
I love this place and come often with friends. The food is amazing and the staff are usually just wonderful, though it has quite high staff turnover and occasionally you run into some issues with that. But I still love this pub!
P. R.
One of my favourite gastropubs in north London, mostly because of its location, over the canal: when you seat on one of the two balconies, you almost feel like if you're on a boat. The food is good, the beer that I drink there is Young's stout, therefore I do not pay much attention to the variety of beers that they might have. The staff is kind and they work fast if you're in a hurry, which was the case recently: a friend had half an hour to have lunch and rush to the airport and he was able to do it.
M. L.
We had the most delicious dinner last night at The Narrowboat. The food was exceptional but what made our night so much better was our waiter, Lucas. What a delightful young man he is and an asset to your business. He was polite, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Thank you, Lucas
E. C.
Nice atmosphere, very popular, roast dinner was good but portion of beef was small - one mouthful of featherblade and one slice of beef. Drinks are pricey
E. M.
Nice pub, good food. Service is usually friendly. If you can get a seat overlooking the canal, even better. Good choice of drinks & the food service is normally pretty quick. We often stop by here if we're walking along the canal & fancy a break.
B. B.
Good range of beers in cask, keg and bottle. Bit pricey but the food service times are much improved. Lovely natural light pours into the upper level so no need to venture onto the compact balcony area. Views over the canal are uninteresting unless you want to know what £3/4M mooring looks like.
N. P.
Lovely looking place and fab spot. However service was slow, we were sat right by the bar and it took 10 minutes to get served. We were also sat next to the door to outside, and it kept getting left open meaning we were constantly getting a draft.
Food was good though 😊
B. M.
Nice pub. I had beef pie for main course which was good, if slightly small, and not a pie. Sadly it had a mashed potato topping, not pastry. Pastry is of course what makes a pie and expectations had been raised.
Puddings were weak. Both my dining partner and I were disappointed. For £7/dessert we expect more. Both the chocolate and pistachio tart, and the winter Bakewell, looked shop bought, not home made. And my pistachio ice cream had ice crystals, making it crunchy and not creamy, suggesting it had been melted and re frozen.
A pity as venue and staff were very nice.
R. M.
Good pub. Food menu changes regularly. Some times the table service can be very bad. We waited one hour and forty minutes from sit down for two steak dinners. This was mid week .
L. M.
Nice place with a good selection of spirits, real cramped though, restaurant downstairs looks directly on the tow path, great being able to chill out by the water on a summer night! I haven’t seen it open in a while but maybe that’s just my timing
A. U.
Another good night at the Narrowboat. Had a very bad experience a while ago, but as this is my local we decided to try again and have had a couple of really good experiences. Staff MUCH nicer now, please get the food back up to the outstanding quality it used to be. It's good now but used to be incredible.
P. A.
It's a lovely spot, but really is trying to be more of a restaurant than a pub. And you will probably be disappointed if you want to try and order food without a booking, as the last few times I've been in this required special consultation with the kitchen first.
I'd go for a beer in the summer, if you don't mind a plastic glass (often chaotic and unable to deal with the number of people). In the winter, there's really not so much going for it in the evening.
It's a shame, as I really want to like it here. But the gastro has overtaken the pub.
H. S.
The staff are the nicest staff I have ever seen in the whole of London for years! Anna is particularly happy and helpful! But everyone is mint and ready to help you have a happy enjoyable evening! Chilled bar for chilled moments with warm smiles and heldful service! Blown away, the love is not dead in this old, seen it all, town! It's alive here! Thank you 🙏
R. A.
Great beer friendly unobtrusive staff food looked very tasty
E. C.
Really nice pub in the canal. the Tables on the balcony are great during warm seasons, otherwise just enjoy the indoor seating with the canal view.
They have a really good fish and chips and a good selection of wines
J. D.
Crazily busy on Sunday afternoon. Had to wait to be seated as our reserved table wasn't available and then waitress spilled gravy over me as she was so rushed. Other groups had to wait far more than an hour for food. Portions were good but roast potatoes were undercooked and vegetarian options were unavailable.
a. u.
Well that certainly didn’t disappoint!! Sunday lunch, veggie option; spinach and ricotta Wellington with all the trimmings. An absolute triumph. Service, atmosphere-all first class. Thank you Narrowboat, you’re back on top!!!
D. Y. O.
Nice view of Regent Canal - The only kind of pubs nearby. As other reviews imply, here is more like a restaurant than a pub. Thus table reservation seems essential for weekend lunch.
h. a.
Great dog friendly pub. Visited for sunday roast, was tasty and the perfect portion. The staff was amazing, they even came over with doggy treats to keep him entertained whilst i was eating. Great sunday spot.
W. L.
One of the best pubs I have been to in London, lovely down by the canal, the food was amazing and service even better, I would recommend anyone to come here for a drink or some food!
K. S.
Went here for brunch/lunch. The place was very noisy and very packed but we were accommodates upon arrival at a large table which we shared with other patrons. The noise level of those standing with their drinks and the screaming child behind us in the couch area was so loud that my group (and I suspect others) either requires us to yell or to have no conversation. The food was so-so, with near no (healthy) vegetarian options. The ones we ordered sufficed as food, but nothing to remember. You could get it anywhere. Overall okay if you need to eat and you are nearby this place.
A. A.
Great staff, mix up with a booking led to best seat in the house for Sunday lunch with friends. Great food and lovely atmosphere. Book so as not to be disappointed.
J. P.
Pleasant waterside pub with an excellent Sunday roast.
B. B.
This is a cosy little pub overlooking the canal with a nice view of it from their deck. They serve some nice IPA's ans have a nice selection of drinks to choose from. If you are a teetotaler you can try one of their coffees and sit and enjoy a nice game - pick from a wide selection of board games on offer. Tip- try 'adult drinking games'!
S. T.
Booked the downstairs room for a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend. Debra and her team were fantastic in helping to organise and decorate the room. She was always on hand to help with any details before and during the party.
The canapés that we pre-ordered were excellent and we were able to order more food during the party for some people who hadn't had enough to eat.
Overall we had a fantastic evening, the surprise was perfectly executed and the help from Debra and her team was truly invaluable!! Would definitely book the pub again!!
O. K.
A very lovely place near canal, but the smell of frying comes from the open kitchen was very disturbing in the ground floor.
A.
The burger I ordered was decent, but the other food we got was not as great. The main reason I am giving them 5 stars is because service was good, and they had Michigan Founders beer on tap! Never expected to find it in London.
C. S.
Wonderful atmosphere by the canal. Service was excellent and food was great. I will make a special trip to eat and drink there again soon!
C. C.
Great canal side pub. Good selection of beers
M. M.
Lovely location, nice set up, decent service. Food is a bit basic and overpriced.
J. G.
Great location, and fantastic to view the river and sit outside. But the service was incredibly poor when I visited – seemed the bar staff ignored my existence until I reached out to them after waiting for quite a few minutes (even when it was relatively quiet). And on the same evening they ran out of all beer – so we had to leave and go to another pub.
A. F.
Nice place, good atmosphere!
Two notes though: the menu was actually shorter than that displayed outside and on the website. Also, it took a very long time to be served (we were a very large table, okay...)
I. S.
One of my favourite gastro pubs in London, which was recently refurbished and improved.
We usually sit at one of the tables on the balcony overlooking the canal (which makes you feel like you are in Venice), but it’s also very cosy inside.
Their sausages and mash (accompanied with one of the local brews) are top quality and one of my favourite choices :)
The staff is polite and attentive.
I love this little hidden London gem!
E. C.
Nice coffee came with free bite sized cake. Nice view of canal if you can manage to bag one of the 4 seats on the tiny balcony. Draft beer on tap
J. C.
This upmarket gastropub is a bit of a hidden gem. That's not to say it's not busy being a short walk from Angel. The pub has a really nice view of the canal which is very pleasant when the sun's out. Worth phoning ahead and asking for a reservation.
The menu is a bit fussy but the food is decent and the range of ale is good. Punters are standard for the area i.e. mainly the well healed Islington set. The Sunday roast looked fantastic whilst the burgers looked quite solid.
C. C.
This is a great pub, perfect for a sunny day sitting on the balcony hanging over Regents Canal. Very relaxed atmosphere and good food (esp Sunday roasts). One of my favourite pubs in London.
B. M.
Attentive friendly staff, quality food and winning views across the canal. We there for summer lunch. Well-named as narrowboats in view at moorings opposite.
C. C.
Visited on a sunny Saturday so it was very busy, the pub itself is in an absolutely stunning location. Had a pint of beavertown neck oil however it’s wasn’t all that cold, it wasn’t warm but could have been a lot cooler. Didn’t have food so can’t comment on it.
J. D.
Very nice pub, great location. Food a bit below par hence 3 stars but I think that was a blip. Slow cooked beef hadn't been slow cooked and was about 50% gristle
S. S.
Great service and staff. Good food
A. C.
Really nice corner with 2 floors that open up to the canal. But it could be faster service and care for tables because the waiter didn't make sure the table was clear from previous customers mess.
R. M.
Good service (if a little over-attentive sometimes), great atmosphere and lovely views of the canal. Food was tasty and well- sized portions.
B. R.
Went here and had a great time. Staff were very friendly and kind with our group's two little ones. Only had drinks so didn't try the food but it looked good!
S. V.
Situated on the edge of the canal , perfect for a summer beer and a chill
L. L.
Location is excellent. I was only there for a quick drink and did not get a chance to try the food hence I think i don't have a well-rounded experience. Staff is lovely but I found service to be a bit slow and inefficient hence only 3 stars.
E. W.
We love this pub! It is such a lovely location along the canal and the food is excellent. Thank you to our server Lucas who was so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back :)
S. M.
Cosy atmosphere and friendly staff.
A bit of a wait but if you use the young app, you get your drinks pretty quick! :)
А. О.
Amazing view, tranquil lovely athmosphere. Perfect for chilling out during sunset
S. B.
Lovely venue and a great view of the canals.
Came for Sunday roast which was delicious. Staff are friendly and Renata provided great service. Would recommend booking in advance.
B. B.
Great service, dog friendly and good food! The vegan fish and chips was amazing, will definitely come again!
A. F.
Victim of its own success. Hardly any mains left on a Sunday evening (ran out of roasts and fish and chips by 6.30m), slow and indifferent service, we were asked to leave at 10pm so the staff could lock up to enjoy their own drinking party. Food is good, when you do get it, and this is still my favourite place to have fish & chips in N1.
T. R.
Pleasant pub serving competent 'pub grub' by the canal. Lovely views, particularly in the sun, if you manage to grab one of the couple tables out on the balcony.
D. N.
Wide range of beers and bistro menu. Cramped interior. We though it OK but very expensive. £1.40 for a packet of crisps is just taking the P. You could easily rack up £50 for lunch for two, which is too much for what is still a pub. Chips were stale.
G. V.
Food was average. Avocado rock hard, when I let the waitress know, she told me 'some times avocados are like that...' So it is either poor menu planning or poor ingredient sourcing.
The balcony is ok for a drink. I won't eat there again.
D. D.
Really exciting bar with a great setting and view. Very friendly staff.
G. W.
Busy busy busy. Fairly good food; passable service - good virgin marys. In the pricey zone.
The guy below (TM) isn't correct, notwithstanding his own experience there. His last line tells you everything you need to know about his reliability and fairness.
C. W.
Reasonably priced for a London pub. Book well in advance if you want a table (shows how popular they are!) But they also allow you to take drinks outside so you can sit by the canal.
J. N.
Newly opened by Young's, the Narrow Boat is a beautiful, cosy and friendly pub in a fantastic location on the canal. The new menu is full of seasonal British food and there are plenty of great London beers on the bar. Highly recommended.
A. N.
Nice little pub. Staff was friendly and helped us foreigners understand what the menu was about. We also watched a hot tub float down the river.
P. M.
Quite a nice local pub serving pretty good food. Beer selection is above average, but not extraordinarily varied. Would come again though. Lovely location along the canal.
C.
Spacious canal-side pub with basic dishes. On a weekday it was refreshingly quiet downstairs to hang out without getting rushed for a next drink.
V. B.
A really cozy place on the embankment of the regents channel. Lots of options of a craft local beer. Usually crowded but it doesn’t seem a problem. I’d really recommend it for a London’s pub experience.
K. M.
Lovely location on the canal. Quirky narrow building. Trendy pub with a nice atmosphere. Popular; probably need to book if you wanted to ensure a table to eat.
M. M.
Stumbled upon this Gem after following canal from Kings Cross area. Beautiful location steeped in history. Great selection of beers after along walk.
L. P.
Pretty nice place love how you can sit by the canal
p. l.
Spotless pub with tables overlooking the canal, but gosh the beer is pricey (£6.50 a pint)
R. K.
A little hidden gem in London. If you're trying to get a place overlooking the Thames, you're often put off by steep prices, tourist crowds and lack of character. Go off the beaten track and find this place that sits right on the canal, reasonable prices and chilled out locals. I could think of no other place to have my 30th birthday. They reserved a spacious area for no cost and no minimum spend, made sure I had everything I needed and were exceptionally patient with some of my more 'rowdy' guests.
Perfect for a quiet pint, whiling away the hours or hosting a special event. Highly recommended
B. N.
One of my favourite gastro pubs in London. Great food, welcoming staff and dog friendly; showering my pup with attention and treats
B. B.
Happy to see creative and flavoursome vegan options on their winter menu! Thoroughly enjoyed spiced chickpea dish and the staff are all brilliant; friendly, attentive yet relaxed and professional.
This Gastropub is a sterling find! Not to mention that fantastic view of London'a waterways and narrowboats.
J. R.
Great food and nice location. Went for the office Christmas lunch and it was really good. Made me want to try their usual menu. Veggie roast looked particularly good.
B. W.
Outstanding service! Delicious food and good selection of drinks.
J. D.
Can't beat the location. Okay beers available
M. W.
Friendly and quirky/unusual pub overlooking the regents canal. A little bit out of the way, but a lovely place to sit and relax, in a really chilled atmosphere. Great staff, good food and drinks.
T. A.
Meal was forgotten and arrived an hour late, but we were not charged, meals were amazing and the view and staff outstanding, love this place! They do need more beers, like a porter.
B. B.
It's a good pub, it can be loud at times and is normally quite busy. Food is tasty and decent value. Like many pubs in London they can't pull a pint. Apart from that..It's okay.
B
M. L.
Nice view to the canal and good food and service. Fish and chips, burger and Sunday roast are all very good there. I wish they had more healthy food options though.
B. B.
Had a Sunday lunch here. The views of the canal are exellent and worth the place alone. However, the food was very good too, if a little pricy.
B. M.
Reasonable beer, decent wine options, friendly staff, and a lovely location, especially in the summer. But. Food is not great, better off in any other nearby pub instead, and while upstairs is a decent place to sit, downstairs is bland.
A. “. A.
Awesome location and ambiance, but I can't speak to the food as I had to leave after an hour and appetizers took longer than that. Maybe I'll try again on a less busy day.
A.
Best cod and chips in London. :)
Great place to visit on a sunny day! The view on the canal is beautiful and the service is excellent.
T. T.
Went there for the first date with my now boyfriend. Tiny little terrace meant we were closer than I anticipated we would be for a first date. I guessed it worked because we are still together. Really nice wine!
M. T.
Quite a cosy place in the backstreets of Islington. Huge food portions and great service. A little pricy but what you'd expect for the location. Dog friendly as well so if you're on a walk this is a great pitstop. Definitely will be back when I'm next in the area.
J. B.
Great for lunch here- recommend the mashed potatoes with pork apple sausages.
i. s.
Great location and very relaxing. I had a burger there and tasted decent.
E. B.
We celebrated my husband's birthday here. The staff was very friendly, the drinks and food were tasty and the atmosphere cosy. We really enjoyed it.
S. E.
Quirky pub over two floors right next to the canal. The prices are a bit steep but the staff are lovely and the location is London summer perfection. They have some fiercely loyal locals to add a bit of chats hate to the otherwise posh-nosh Islingtonites
s. w.
Really nice little pub. They had live music on the night we were there but you wouldn't have known being downstairs. Plenty of space.
P. K.
Nice pub. Food is ok.
T. T.
Excellent place to stop and eat. It was a sunny day but the food and service was good. Great to sit upstairs and outside balcony looking along the canal.
A. H.
Superb location on the canal towpath. On two levels and on a sunny day, with people spilling out onto the towpath, the atmosphere and setting here are hard to beat. Would be 5 stars except drinks are expensive and they operate a bizarre system of reserving tables where there are loads of empty tables at really busy times and customers have to go somewhere else. Bizarre.
D. S.
Friendly staff, nice view, good pint, great burger.
S. A.
The food was good but the staff messed up my friends vegetarian gravy with meat gravy and it was not the end of the world but it would be nice if they were more attentive.
D. W.
3 level pub with nice views out over the canal, it's narrow (as the name suggests) so can be very busy when the weather is nice. Expensive ok / good food and limited beer selection.
D. M.
ok selection of beer. Above average choice of food. Nice canal side balcony to sit on in good weather, though booking advised as it packs out quickly.
S. L.
Great balcony view of the canal; I recommend their Sunday roast; plus if you love to take your dog everywhere you'll feel right at home.
P. A.
Loverly next to canal and nice place for a drink
G. D.
Good pub on Regent's Canal. Great for lunch and good choice of beers.
L. K.
Excellent vibe, even better views from the balcony, will definitely come here again and try the food!
R. D.
Slow service. Pricey!
l. b.
The best Sunday roast in angel. I recommend the chicken to share, its almost too much food. The atmosphere is great and the staff are really friendly. price is average for the area.
T. B.
Great canal side pub. Really lovely in the summer when you can sit outside on the balcony and drink in the sun over looking the canal. Cosy in the winter, with a good selection of food and drink.
T. C.
Very pleasant pub with above average food albeit a little expensive for a pub. However on a Tuesday it was full of local people enjoying their meals.
T. R.
Lovely pub by the canal, Dan was very welcoming and we will definitely be back very soon.
J. T.
Really like it
Nice little pub, nice view.
Food looked good although I didn't eat anything.
Very nice pub for a sunny day
K. H.
Friendly service, tasty food (large portions!). Always a lovely ambience, and great location by the canal.
A. W.
Really nice place for a drink 😉👍
G. H.
Traditional English pub food.Nice location.reasonable service. Comfortable seating
Seems to be well run and popular. On line booking app did not work.
S. V.
Great views. Friendly humans.
J. W.
Nice views over the canal and decent pub.
R. A.
Love this pub. It has a great atmosphere and the food is brilliant, especially the Sunday roasts!
It's lovely in the summer sitting out on the balcony.
T. S.
Vegetarian options... Not much unless you're into carbs
Burger was ok. Although the second time I had it it was burnt...
Good selection of ales and it's a cosy place
But I wouldn't go just for the food
It's a good location and nice inside
K. L.
Great pub. Great ambience, great location. I go there often and sometimes the service can be a bit slow, especially if they are really busy.
C. P.
On a nice day, a perfect place to grab a beer and sit on the canal watching life go by. A great pit stop. Not sure about staying a while there to be honest, it's a fair weather pub.
S.
They were super friendly and efficient, we only had an hour to eat as we walked in and the food came out so fast, thanks team!
H. O.
The food is always delicious and very well presented. The staff are super friendly and the decor is cosy and trendy. I love it here
A. G.
Pokey place with a great view of the canal.
P. A.
Great location, service, food and drink.
J. E.
Great location (especially when weather is cooperating), friendly staff, and warm atmosphere. Only 4 stars because I feel the food and drinks are just a bit pricier compared to their compatriots.
s.
Excellent Sunday roast beef, great range of drinks, lovely staff team with special thanks Gianmarco who went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our visit! Thank-You
S. D.
This is a great old Islington boozer that is still a good place for a drink and dinner. The staff are super nice and helpful. Food is not fabulous, but it was fine.
A. M.
Sparkling service. Good to be back after the second Uk lockdown. Staff very friendly and efficient and super tasty food.
N. A.
Went to my friend's Birthday the other day.. food was terrible, service was even worse and it took them 20 minutes to take our payment. Such a great location is going to waste!
G. M.
I smuggle a loaf in and stand on the balcony overlooking the canal. I feed the ducks. Sometimes I catch one. I am nice to the ducks I catch. I tell them they should not be so trusting of humans. I tell them, but they can't understand human words.
M. J. v. D.
Very cozy place, lovely view. Great selection food and cool craft beers etc. Lazy personnel, only talking to themselves.
D. H.
Good place for a drink or meal at a gastro pub with excellent views over the canals. Super place to relax, play some games and enjoy the atmosphere.
L.
Great local pub with excellent service in a nice location overlooking the canal. They do decent quality food too
G. P.
Delightful, we really enjoyed the place. We had two beers and some food, I especially liked the truffle creme.
E. l. M.
Always good food, nice atmosphere and a good view of the canal's. Would recommend for going with family for a nice pub lunch.
M. F. (.
A lovely pub overlooking the canal. Great food and service. Can be busy on weekends, so booking a table recommended.
M. I.
We stepped in for a quick beer before closing and Renata made our experience amazing!
We just wanted to say thank you for a lovely evening♥️
G. G.
Great food (though their delicious-looking menu made me order way too much of it). A touch expensive, but worth it for the quality and cool location right on the water
A. M.
Great place by the canal with a good wine selection! The walk down the canal side is great too.
H. M.
Wheelchair access downstairs (where I needed to be) non-existent, but staff - and customers - very helpful. Full access upstairs. Great atmosphere.
I. L.
Great place with beautiful views and delicious food. The staff is always fantastic. Definitely worth a visit.
T. B.
Really good pub, great location on the canal. Had Sunday roast, reasonably priced and very good. Well kept ales as well, will definitely be coming back
T. B.
Nice to sit overlooking the canal. More of a pricey restaurant than a pub. Lacks diversity, seems to attract a certain type of crowd. The only way I can describe this place. DULL DULL DULL.
D. H.
Birthday meal
Had a lovely meal with the family for our daughters birthday. 1st time using this gastro pub but not the last.
L. R.
Good pub ovetall, but was a bit cold upstairs, not too cozy! Food was fine. Dog friendly.

Very busy bar. Friendly service but food unfortunately was of average quality
D. F.
I went by the end of the day. Got a table with amazing view. Ordered the burger which was pretty good. Good service as well.

Amazing pub overlooking the canal. Great selection of beers in two bars and proper English pub food.
Z. C.
One of my favourite pub in angel. Great balcony with a view on the canal. So lovely
K. D.
Lovely little pub, if you are lucky you can get a spot outside on the mini-balcony over-looking the canal. My favourite dish here is the popcorn chicken!
O. R.
Been to the place many times, always delivers. Good booze, good food, staff always seem awesome....don't know what the bad reviews are going on about.
R. O.
A very relaxed nice setting with an outdoor terrasse overlooking the canal. Food portions are big and good!
M. M.
Great place for food, drinks and tea! wonderful view on the canal. Would definitely recommend!

Great pub, a bit pricey but to be expected on the canal. Would recommend
A. H.
Quite nice in the summer to have a drink by the canal, still quite cozy in the winter too. The cheesy chips are great
s. b.
Lovely setting. Took a very long time to be seated even though there was space
H. Y.
Adorable pub on the canal. Good views and decent prices, nice stop for a pint or a bite to eat.
R. W.
A good pub and really nice views over the river. Is a bit narrow though which means it can be a little difficult to move around when it's busy.
C. K.
What a great find! Beautiful space to dine or chill for small and large groups, with great gastropub meals and beer selection.
S.
Had a great Sunday roast here. Food was good, very nice spot and the Guinness is delicious
T. S.
Cosy old location, modern traditional food, nice terrace upon houseboats, young people, very good spirit. I loved the stay!
S. D.
A little expensive but really nice! Pretty view of the canal, friendly staff and good food. Cannot fault it really!!
M. D.
Near the Angel Canal, perfect for those sunny days in spring and summer. Just a few minutes walk from Angel station and right next to the beautiful canal which is great for walks.
R.
Actually, this is a very nice pub, split over two levels. Being on the canal makes it busy though. If full, there are several other nice places within a 5 minute walk.
J. B.
Been coming here on and off for over 18 years food is delicious and having a drink by the canal in the summer is a must!
N. A.
John was our server and took good care of us last night. Was lovely overlooking the canal while eating.
A. W.
Nice place to have a drink and a bonus that it's along the canals! Don't bother with food though unless you want to wait a looong time for terrible, cold food.
E. C.
Love this canal side pub. Food is good. Great to go on a sunny day after a walk down the canal.
A. R.
A great place to unwind by the canal. Can get busy in the evenings though and you'll need to queue up at the bar to order..
M. S.
Great place for a weekend afternoon on the canal. The food platters are really nice and the fries are... Naughty
S. H.
Love this pub open fire last winter was good view of Canal is great and the few vegan options are basic but tasty.
C. M.
Food is really average. They have a few good beers and a nice terrace on the canal
Y. N.
Great atmosphere on all 2 floors with some decent food and drinks on offer. The canal view is also a bonus
P. F.
Great pub. Great atmosphere.
A. A.
Great food combined with swift and attending staff. The interior is nothing special and if you could live with that you could have a very nice evening.
G. S.
Amazing food, great location and really accomodating and professional staff.
E. T.
Large portions and great roasts
J. N.
The food platter was to die for - Homemade scotch egg, sausage rolls, chunky potato wedges, pork pie with homemade mayo and hollandaise sauce - Perfection.
