Reviews of Princess of Wales
D. W.
Best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. Fantastic food and friendly servers. Vegan cheese cauliflower side was a very pleasant surprise! Great atmosphere and service. Definitely one of my favorite pubs in London!
A. D.
A great pub to enjoy a Sunday lunch in after a long walk along the canal. Friendly service and good food. Good range of beers on tap. Too full up to take on the desserts but they looked great!
O. G.
The staff are lovely and friendly. There wasn’t enough beef on the roast and it was served Luke warm. For the price point expected more
T. W.
I went to The Princess with my family today. We had a booking elsewhere but that was cancelled suddenly, probably Covid, and so we went down to the princess not really expecting more than a drink, it being a busy pub and us with no booking. Luckily we got a table and then really enjoyed everything. The comfortable atmosphere was cozy and the staff friendly plus we were able to eat and the food was excellent.
We all agreed we were lucky indeed
M. W.
Great pub, great location. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Eclectic mix of customers, so wildly funny to watch.
The tow path and canal brings a rich variety of passers by.
What more do you need?
S. S.
We had a delicious Sunday roast at The Princess! The pork was perfectly cooked with crispy crackling and the best sides. The service was warm, friendly and quick on what looked like a very busy, sunny day. We'll definitely be back soon!
A. P. P.
The princess of Wales is a much quieter place post-lock down. However, the food is still probably the best in the area within the remit of Clapton and around Stoke Newington as well. Good options for vegans and gluten free palates, very good quality food. Staff are truly welcoming, particularly great with the many dogs that visit. Perhaps my only criticism or rather, observation, is that gluten free beer on offer is rather scarce, but that is nothing that cannot be improved on.

This place is fabulous and very busy. We are excited every time we pop in for a hot drink or a meal. Alongside the canal with the boats and great for a walking exercise. We walk down daily for my health and well-being. But this fabulous place is filled with character and ambience! The seating is great for outside is always fully booked out. The menu is interesting and all drink are there to warm your heart. Good friendly crowds and warm hard working staff. Hurry quick as the seating inside and out go quickly. Lovely comfortable surroundings for the children and pet owners. Good walking tracks and park area to picnic in across the road from the Princess of Wales. All government guidelines are still in place and good facilities for your convenience. Worth you planning your day or grab a friend and attend for yourself to see how great this venue is and enjoy the menu...bless

Here again 😊 Always enjoy visiting this beaut of a pub. Food is delicious, partner had fish and chips which he devoured. I had chunky chips with ketchup & mayo, delicious. I will forever recommend this gem on the river with great atmosphere and decor is regal and gorgeous.
J. K.
Went to this beautiful pub with my family for a post Christmas get-together, so glad we did, as you walked through the door you could feel the warm friendly buzz of the place, we were all very hungry so ordered our food straight away, after roughly 15 minutes it arrived, beautify presented, piping hot and absolutely delicious. We all left full and happy and will recommend and be back, thank you so much for a lovely afternoon.
E. R.
Fun pub, great roast, dog friendly, we were there when old dirty brassards were playing, which gave it such a wonderful atmosphere. Seating by the canal is good for people watching too!
J. L.
Lovely pub by the canal. I went to watch a couple of Euro 2020 games with friends here. Biggest fish I've ever gotten from a fish n chips order. Tasted great as well!
V. B.
Lovely atmosphere and delicious Sunday roast!
Order to table via app really makes service smooth and quick!
A. S.
One of the best places for a roast around. Always spot on. We had an early Christmas dinner and loved it. The turkey was really tasty and all the sides you would expect. The bloody Mary’s were banging and a good, reasonable wine selection. Fab staff too and a lovely location. So happy to call this our local!
O. S.
We enjoyed a lovely day at the Princess of Wales Pub after a day of hiking.
They have a very nice outdoor seating and dining area situated by the canal.
The pub is fairly large and spacious indoors.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
They offer both Table App Service and Bar Service.
The menu is typical Gastropub fare with an emphasis on Burgers and various Hotdogs however they also serve Fish and Chips and a number of more unusual items.
We enjoyed a number of the starters, and mains.
The Soup is recommended.
Unfortunately we did have to return the Scotch Egg as not being to our liking but a big thank you and special mention to Andrei who immediately came to talk with us about the dish and without hesitation offered us a replacement dish or refund.
He was extremely polite and respectful and did a great job.
He is certainly a credit to the establishment.
We enjoyed a large number of drinks and had a very nice time.
We shall certainly be returning in the very near future.
Highly recommended.
P. M.
Really nice venue but a little pricey. Having said that you are paying for quality of food service and location highly recommend this gastro pub
C.
Passed this pub so many times over the years. First time eating here. Excellent food, would have liked more seasonal ingredients and local sourcing but we'll be back.
M. F.
They keep the beer well and it's open and quiet in the day, and gets good light indoors, especially in winter.
The katsu chicken burger with some kind of pickled Asian vegetable or slaw, was colourful but very lacking in flavour.
P. S.
Superb interior and friendly service. A welcome retreat on a river walk.
F. G.
Best pub in Hackney - beautiful canal side location, amazing food and always a great atmosphere.
Burger shack out the back is brilliant in the summer too!
E. C.
We didn't eat here, however, this is a decent pub to visit.
It's clean, including the toilets, I'd visit here more often if we were local.
Reason for not eating here is because there were limited vegan options, admittedly better than a lot of places but there is a fully vegan place further along the river with more choice.
Thanks for your hospitality, albeit short lived.
H. H.
Love this place. Great beer and good food menu. I agree with another review about “filling up the pint glass” …. they are NOT oversized pint glasses, so fill ‘em up guys.
Sabrina made us REALLY welcome… one of the reasons to return.
Thanks guys.
O. R.
Good part:
The Mac n Cheese was just great, probably one of the best I had in a Youngs pub have a light touch of lemon! The pub is clean and tidy.
Bad part:
No sign of waiters, no one followed the steps of service, no one came to make me check-back to see if was everything alright and I left before I got my plate collected, and was quiet…
J. I.
Came here for Sunday lunch and the roast was delicious - cooked FRESH by chefs in a proper kitchen unlike a few others places where the food has been cooked from frozen.
Friendly bar staff and a good array of beers and nice wine. Love it!
A. M.
Lovely location, food and drink. I will be coming back!
E. M.
I met with 2 friends for a quick drink and we ended up staying for hours.. It was so lovely and relaxing to sit outside as the sun was going down.. drinking guinness and a stream of delicious snacks. The apple crumble was great and big enough for two of us to share. It was a pleasure and I'll be going back regularly (and thanks to Claudio for the service which was smooth, fast and so hospitable)
L. E. P.
Friendly and helpful staff, great outdoor area, available blankets in a cold night, magical location by river Lea. Good selection of local beers.
A. M.
Really nive pub, good ambience anmd ythe food is lovely. The outdoor space is also an unique space with the canal by its side. Good selection of beers and they change the menu often. One of ,myu favourite places in London. Quite accesible with the bike so IKm love to end my cicling routes there. They also have a fire place. something much apreciated in winter after a long walk/ride
G. B.
Today we went to this lovely place for a good Sunday Roast. Food was impeccable, service was amazing, Claudio gave us a wonderful experience. He took great care of us and gave us a fantastic dining experience.
All the staff was lovely, great pub, great food, great experience.
Thank to all the crew
I. L. (. G.
To be fair only stopped in his place to ask the staff to use their toilet and funny enough I've been to quite a few pubs known as the Prince of Wales so why stop a good thing how to say the food is smell good it's based in the beautiful location I get good vibes from around the area.
W. M.
Beautiful pub in an idyllic location on the river. The staff are welcoming, very friendly and ensure that the service is consistently top notch.
This coupled with swift service and excellent food makes the Princess of Wales my go to any day of the week. Truly brilliant and Claudio always seems happy to see me.
They also do an awesome sticky toffee pudding!
F. S.
Here we have a kitchen brigade that wants to elevate the humble dishes typical of the pub tradition with a lot of care, excellent ingredients and attentive presentation. In fact, I would call this a gastro-pub. And, on top of that, a pub blessed with a wonderful location and lovely décor. London can't do much better than this.
L. S.
Good spot for a quick beer by the river if you're out for a walk in the area, especially on a dry day. Unfortunately it doesn't have the warmest vibe, feels a bit too anonymous for what it could be but then again this is a Youngs pub, and its in Hackney so maybe to be expected.
C. B.
Great pub on the River Lea. Very cosy.
A. M.
A lovely pub by the river. Don't bother with the app though. It took ages to download & it's not easy to navigate. Whilst I was registering my friends walked to the bar & ordered. I did the same in the end & deleted the app.
G. G.
I visited a couple of weeks ago. The service here was just amazing, sending a big shout out to Claudio who was so super helpful. Opened up the car park slightly early so I could go for a walk and then come back for a lovely lunch. So happy I found this by pub by accident.
S. M.
This would be a 5* review if it weren't for the disappointing burgers from the burger shack. The beef tasted poor in quality and the chicken katsu burger didn't taste like katsu, but instead had a candied taste to it, which was strange. Other than the food though, the staff, drinks and pub/surroundings were amazing.
A. R.
We dined in for a Sunday roast with friends, we had chicken Sunday roast and was just cooked perfectly. The service was top notch delivered from the charming and well skilled Claudio , which he made the all experience terrific good and we enjoyed the full experience without felt pushed . Well done for the amazing service.
Z. D.
Love it here, been here a few times - inside and out, for food and drinks. I really love it, the service us great, especially with the app and the food is genuinely delicious, far surpassing my expectation of gastropub food. The only reason I'm marking it down is because it is really quite expensive, every time I'm surprised by the price tag, but the atmosphere and decor is great, so I'd rather go here than most of the other pubs in the area
N. M.
Modern pub right on the canal. It's a little close to lea bridge road but inside or out the back you'll forget about the traffic and enjoy a good selection of beers, with local breweries well represented. The menu is standard modern pub fare but really tasty (chips and scotch eggs were excellent), and it's frequented by a casual, relaxed crowd. The back patio catches the sun through the year and is the perfect place to have a pint.
A.
One of the best burgers I’ve ever had! They never fail with the quality. The pork belly is divine. Lovely staff too😊
J. G.
Really nice pub along the canal, the pub quiz on a Sunday also lots of fun.
The vegan roast was really good, massive portion size, potatoes were nicely cooked all in all 👌🏽.
For veggies, near end of evening all the left over Yorkshire's are out at the bar for anyone to eat! They're massive!!
J. C.
Apart from not having courvoiser we enjoyed our burgers and the garden. Nice place and will definitely go back.
Y. G.
This place is situated close to the Middlesex Water Beds Nature Reserve. It is perched on the side of canal and is a perfect pub to get a drink or catch up with friends over brunch. There is indoor seating place and outdoor sitting area too. We went there on Saturday evening and had a love band playing. This place attracts an young audience and has a very energetic vibe. Whether you have walking, cruising, or cycling on your mind, everything is just a hop across.
v. s.
Visited this place after searing Google for good pubs around me and it was really wonderful! Though we couldn't get table outside which had heater, we got a nice cozy corner table. The food was really nice especially the potato chips and fish & chips, which were nothing like I have eaten before, a must try! We also ordered chicken pie and mc & cheese which was very delicious. So over all a must try!!
N. H.
Pleasant pub the canal. Very dog friendly. Haven’t consumed but the Sunday lunch does look great. Ate the burger that was slightly watery.
v. b.
First time there so we sat by the river,so peaceful and relaxing.
R. B.
Great cycle stop, great riverside location staff are friendly. Good selection of beer. But I love Camden Town Brewery stuff! Bar snacks, home made scotch egg lovely. Main food hit and miss, burger shack seems like a great idea on a sunny day but I’m not blown away by the food in general. That’s the only reason for not giving 5*. It’s a 4.5* pub really.
T. B.
Popped in for breakfast always seen this pub but never made it in will definitely be coming back in the evening and to check out the garden and burger shack 🍔 dog friendly and friendly staff
B. A.
One of the best Sunday lunches I have had ( in a Pub) . Very pleasant staff as well.
S. N.
Amazing pub in a beautiful location. The BEST Sunday roast in the world.
J.
Lovely Pub and outside terrace space with food. Unfortunately you have to inhale the fumes from the generator on the nearby Narrow Boat which also blocks the view of the Old Pump house. Pity
L. T.
Love this pub. Foods great. Location is great. Staff are lovely. I'm a monthly visitor.
A. L.
The staff were super friendly, polite and fast! Food was delicious - had the cauliflower and it was a good sized portion and looked as good as it tasted. Wonderful service in comfortable surroundings. Would definitely go there again!
N. F.
Great vegan burger! 🤩🥰🤩 A little bit maybe small if you have a big hunger, could be slightly bigger, but great taste! 🤩 One of my favourite vegan burgers i had in London so far😋
C. N.
Excellent pub, very friendly staff and great location. Lovely food and great selection of drinks. Would recommend and will visit again.
Update: Went back 1 may, Jack and Sabrina were amazing. Fun and friendly. Great service.
A. C.
Lovely cute pub by the canal with cosy indoor seating or large outdoor terrace when it's nice weather, staff are super friendly and our dog got all the treats from them! Great burger menu, katsu curry burger is a must try!!
D. S.
Excellent Burns night quiz by Den and Gen, will happily come back for any more special events!
S. S.
We had Sunday dinner and a drink here. Claudio served us and was very attentive, considerate and dealt with our order really well. He even brightened up the room for us as we found it a little dark on arrival and that’s why this place deserves 5 stars. Thanks! :)
R. B.
Lovely pub with great food selection. Usually a good fresh catch of the day option. Outside seating right next to canal tow path, absolutely lovely for an afternoon pint (or two) finished off with some BBQ burgers grilled onsite.
T. S.
Love the pub but very confusing how inside and outside are not under the same seating arrangements but the menu are. Not too much of a quibble as I still come here alot.
A tad expensive tho my friend was spewing over the cost of a G&T!
A. V.
Beautiful place, charming and friendly.
Perfect in a sunny day for having lunch with friends. Kids friendly. The food is lovely and they have a big variation of drinks.
D. V.
Me and my friend visited Princess of Wales for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our time there: the staff were an an absolute gem - friendly, courteous and professional - led by Claudio who really looked after us and, being a wine connoisseur, gave us a wine tasting and offered great suggestions as to which white wine would go well with our scrumptious food clearly made by a talented chef, all of which exceeded our expectations and made our evening. Strongly recommended!
C. K.
Dog friendly. Nice outside space. On the river. Good quality menu. Laid back feel. Friendly staff... Top bollock.
m. l.
pleasant pub after a walk on hackney marshes- reasonable prices, great staff and a lovely location. a winner!
H. H.
The menu is quite pricy with most pints costing over £6. We tried a couple of burgers from burger shack, they were really nice. Hard to get a nice table by the canal without a reservation so had to sit in the car park round the back. Big criticism- they make you download their app and order via the app. They won't take any orders from the table or accept cash. Could be a problem if someone doesn't have a smartphone or any storage space for the app.
G. G.
Great atmosphere, they have lot of space outside as inside. The place looks clean, they do care about covid-19 regulations which means the general hygiene situation is good. People looks motivated, it's a "Young's" pub which has a good reputation. I went 2 times just because I live on the other side of London, totally suggested
T. A.
Roast looked nice but tasted rather plain and not cheap at £15.95 without a drink! Gentleman behind counter was really friendly.
It is clearly a nice place to enjoy a drink; located perfectly along the River Lea .. sadly food let it down on this occasion.
F.
After cycling past countless occasion, I finally tried it. Nice cozy pub, prices not that bad for London
E. P.
The pub is nice and cosy but to be fair a bit overpriced. They do live music inside, we were sitting outdoor enjoying the sunset so the music wasn't too loud. Good place for a beer on the canal
I.
Staff very friendly and welcoming, the views and seating outside is really nice and the food great would highly recommend.
C. R.
What a great pub! Had such a good laugh and the staff are so polite. Seb the manager is a good laugh and really accommodating. What a great location by the river, great booze and great food - hopefully I'll see you all there!
L. T.
Did visit this place today. Best ever fish and chips. Can't wait to go again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
S. T.
Very good pub, great staff, the best the manager Claudio! And the spanish waiter from Alicante(sorry i don't remember his name)
The place is very good for drinks and food, and it has parking(you paid and they refund if you consume something)
J.
Friendly atmosphere , range of beers, parking has ncp site by side.
N. P.
Great local pub with a ton of space and friendly staff
J. B.
Lovely friendly staff, great Sunday Roast!
J. R.
Food was absolutely amazing. Fish and chips with mushy peas were excellent and the sticky toffee pudding to round the meal off. Lovely friendly staff. Keep it up folks
R. S.
Wanna come back in the summer, the food was as good as the Christmas menu
R. C.
Lovely pub in a great location. Had a Sunday roast here which was nice but not worth the price. Would go back to try the other food and get a drink though.
H. A.
Great place to take your partner the food is great. Slightly dear though.
D. B.
Great pint of Winter Warmer, in an excellent pub with friendly service
P.
Great food and friendly service
A. W.
I had a lovely lunch here at the weekend. It was a bit nippy outside but the staff kindly gave us blankets. The Sunday roast was so good and the service was great. Would definitely recommend.
N. C.
Walked past so may times but finally popped in for a quick drink whilst dodging the rain. Food looked and smelt amazing so will be back soon to try.
C. P.
I love just by this pub and absolutely love it! The foods sublime, the drinks are great and the service is fantastic! If you want a laugh in the evening then definitely come here 🤗
B. W.
Had a great evening here. Especially nice sitting by the canal, with good company, at the end of night. If you head down look out for the barman Claudio, he'll take good care of you!
S. G.
I visited the Princess of Wales for the first time today and the food was absolutely delicious - probably one of the best pub roasts I've had. The service was great and I felt very safe with all of the COVID precautions taken by the pub. I will definitely be going back in the near future.
A. K.
Had a great night! Good beer, good burgers and great service. Claudio made us feel very welcome! Thanks Princess of Wales
P. L.
Great location. Lovely views of canal. Lovely fish and chips.
H. B.
Been here a few times . Decent scenery, however bar staff abit confused and Amstel was very flat
J. B.
Consistently good roasts in this pub which make choosing it over the many great local independents for a Sunday afternoon’s lounging an easy decision.
They’re managing the current social distancing/table service/ track and trace situation very well. I didn’t download the app and still received good service.
E. R.
The kids menu boasts truffle Mac and cheese, and an oyster mushroom and lentil wellington. What more could you possibly want?
E. V.
We had our Sunday roast: outstanding food, top class service and the place is so charming! Going back soon!
S.
Waiting staff were amazing and super cool, best pub in the whole of London. If you haven't visited, you're missing out - sort your life out. My favourite pub ever in the whole world
K. S.
Very calm pub located in a beautiful spot just off of Lea Bridge Rd. Great for cooling down after a summer stroll through the marshes.
E. W.
Hands down, and this might be pretty controversial, but one of the best roast dinners I’ve had (sorry but Nan still beats this). Had the pork which was perfectly cooked, crispy potatoes, excellent roast veg and a Yorkshire pudding the size of my face. To top it off, good choice of beers and a table on the canal. Nice one.
K. Q.
Friendly staff, good food and fun ambiance. Great location right on the canal.
H. S.
Absolutely brilliant local pub. Has a beautiful location on the canal and lovely staff. Really lovely outside tables and delicious food. It’s my favourite local!!
M. B.
Lovely spot by the canal. Great service! Food and drinks came out super quick. And the chicken katsu was absolutely delicious 🤤 Seb been such a prince of a waiter! Definitely coming back 😊
M. T.
Cool pub along the river Lea. Food is ok but selection is a bit limited and quite pricey for the amount you get. Can't rate even rate 4 stars because in the middle of our Sunday roast the trash collectors came and started moving trash a few feet away from our food. So if you can please avoid going to this place around noon on a Sunday or you might smell lots some funk when having your meal.
O. O.
Great customer service and fish and chips. Lovely view of the marshes at the outside dining area
A. V.
Part of a big chain (Youngs I think) great position next to the river. Plenty of outdoor space. Reasonable range of cask beers - could be better but no doubt affected by post lock down issues. Food available - chips were excellent.
J. S.
Lovely pub with some outside waterside seating
Friendly helpful staff
Great home made scotch eggs with runny yolks.
We ate the home made individual chicken pies with mash gravy and greens
It was the best chicken pie I had ever tasted and everyone agreed
Will certainly return to try something else on our next visit to London
A. B.
(2019) Yet another fantastic meal with friendly, efficient staff.
Back again today, Sep 2021, and enjoyed the most fantastic steak, cooked to perfection by Chef Jacek. Delightful.
M. P.
Warm place with beautiful wiews of nature, providing quality for the customers.
L. H.
Went for the Sunday roast was it amazing …with my girlfriend she loved it … worth it
J. C.
Had a lovely chilled lunch at the Princess of Wales. The pub looks suitably festive, the service was excellent and the food fabulous. Recommend the fish & chips and the Wild Mushroom risotto.
S. Z.
Lovely evening in a beautiful riverside pub
Came here, for the first time, with a couple of friends on a busy Saturday evening, to have dinner and wasn't disappointed at all.The atmosphere was lovely with candle lit tables. The staff that welcomed and served us was very attentive and efficient, quick and friendly, even in what looked like a very busy evening.
We ate a beautifully cooked salmon trout and a lamb rump.
The pub has also a great selection of gins, which made me very pleased since I love a good gin and tonic. Really recommend this pub to every one. I also noticed that kids and dogs are also welcome which makes everything even better if you want to spend a lovely meal with your loved ones.
Will back here for sure.
B. B.
Very nice pub with great choice and good food
E. D.
Visited yesterday for a work Christmas lunch. Despite there being a mix up with my order (requested a gluten free starter which arrived with puff pastry which wasn't gluten free) they apologise with a free drink. The rest of the meals were delicious, very good portion sizes and extra veg and and brilliant value for money.
As the evening progressed the pub had a lovely cosy country pub atmosphere with families and pets.
All the staff were attentive, helpful and generally lovely.
It's very likely we'll return again next year!
Oh and they have gluten free bottled beer but it would be amazing if they stocked the malted version of the same brand (hint hint).
Looking forward to returning.
L. W.
It’s not that this place is exceptional, but it’s almost better - it’s reliable. Staff are always super friendly, the roasts are more consistent than anywhere else round here, it’s in an ideal spot for a post-walk pit stop and they’ve nailed the Covid precautions. Wine is slightly dear, but that’s my only quibble.
t. p.
Really liked it in here we were tourists in the area and this pub was the only decent looking one around. Outlook on the canal is lovely it's done up well, very comfortable. We met friends here for an evening meal 4 adults and 4 kids. We sat inside but beer garden looked great for the warm weather. Service was excellent, we all enjoyed our meals and the range of drinks was super. Would definitely be my local if I lived in the area!
A. H.
Great service and even better food. Excellent covid safe environment and felt welcome immediately. Seb was an amazing server and nothing was too much trouble. 10 on 10 boy x
K. C.
Very busy. But quick service for drinks & food. Very good
A. K.
Very friendly and cozy place. Food is great
G. B.
Grate food lovely staff and the best tasting pints always fresh I always stop of when I'm passing nice views of the river really is a nice place
S. T.
Not the best experience. My burger was served on a scratched, blue plastic tray! Had to ask for a plate and cutlery 😪😪. I must say thanks to the manager on duty, who found us a table inside when the rain came, beital I had to ask! Won't be going back in a hurry 🥵 This was one of favourite places - not anymore 🤔
T. S.
Very nice place and the staff was very nice. It was a cold summer night and Claudiu was kind and gave us a nice a blanket. Thank very much.
P. S.
New ownership trying really hard. Very pleasant experience now they have the canopy down outside. Friendly and professional manager. Great stuff 👏
B. D.
Ventured out here for my first post lockdown restaurant/pub and was pleased I did. The lunch menu has something for everyone. I devoured the plant burger & chips which left me quite full. They've re-spaced the garden seating well, and hand sanitizer is prominently displayed and available upon arrival. Lovely place to enjoy canalside views.
L. L.
Absloutly amazing burgersm Clean toilets and plenty of alchol choices , with indoor or outdoor seating
A. B.
Great, reliable Sunday lunch spot. Menu is varied and imaginative but reliably tasty. My only gripe is that the vegetarian/vegan options can be very pretty and delicious but not always very filling for the price. Nice selection of beers, dogs allowed, friendly attentive table service, clean toilets and baby change facilities make everyone feel welcome.
L. K.
The pub is very cozy inside and the drinks are nice, however we ordered a steak and asked it to be medium raw, but even after sending it back and asking them to make it again, it came fully cooked. I can't imagine what was the problem... Maybe the chef didn't know how?! The burger was awesome though!
M. S.
Nice canal side pint. Outdoor area great if you can get a table.. nice steps to sit out on next to the tow path Have a walk and on the marsh then a pint next to water. Lots of east London types to qwark at if the conversation is a bit sparse, generally a friendly crowd
for some random chats.
Food good at times. Burger bar outside can also be good at times. Can get busy but you’ll generally get served with some staff directioning. Overall decent pub. Worth a visit. 🍺🍺🍺🍺

I've been here three times for meals with work recently and found the menu to be a little more interesting than some pubs' fayre. I enjoyed the veggie burger (spicy with beetroot) and generous portion of fries and also had a more traditional fish and chips another time but the highlight was probably the planks loaded with meats/fish and hunks of bread. The desserts are okay - a little over-priced especially as some are not made on site; I had cheese which was good. The overall ambiance is pleasant and the friendly staff make it one worth a visit, and in summer its riverside outdoor dining area looks appealing.

We live at paradise park so a 30 second walk, Sebs service was unparalleled, and he couldn’t have made us feel more at home.
We have been coming to the princess of Wales for years and always had a good time, it has for obvious reason been shut throughout lockdown but this was an incredible experience. Thanks to Seb for the incredible service, he is a credit to the establishment, I look forward to seeing him in future.

Seen better looking pubs from the outside, did wonder if it was open from a distance. Very different inside though, smart and spacious. 3 decent hand pumped beers including one from Windsor & Eton brewery. No problem wheeling the wheelchair into the pub, pizza nice and reasonably priced and colleague said fish and chips were nice. Would be nice to sit outside by the river if it hadn't been mid January!! Happy to go back.
D. E.
Loved it here, had a great time. Seb and Guillermo made sure we were looked after and the food was amazing. Would 100% recommend it to anyone
T. T. B.
Really nice spot for an afternoon lager outside by the river and views of old industry.
Fantastic honest scotch egg and good beers.
Lovely seating area outside and genuinely tasteful decor inside.
Large and spacious whilst being cosy too.
Nice

Brilliant 😃 & relaxing atmosphere , which I've visited on numerous occasions. It's situated right next to the River Lea, and a short walk away from the depths of Hackneys nature reserve and forestry. . Haven't eaten there as yet, just had teas/ coffee with a friend. The outside seating area is suitable for families with children whilst keeping an expected watchful eye over them. There's a piano for any budding pianist to strike some notes if brave enough 😉. Overall, I highly recommended visiting.

Lovely food and awesome service! Claudio treated us like stars! Super nice and welcoming staff thank you guys👌🏻🙂🙂
H. K.
We had such a fabulous time by the canal in this friendly pub. Just what we needed after a long lockdown. Had 5 star service from our Seb. We'll be back again! Thanks guys
J. W.
Feeling so sorry for the staff on duty as they're working so hard and they're clearly understaffed. It's a busy Sunday and they're doing their best by the customers but they need more help!!
Manager you must hire more people! Sunday is the busiest day.
Wonderful pub though, love this spot.
❤️

One of the best pub experiences of my life. Friendly staff (especially Seb), delicious vegetarian friendly food and fantastic atmosphere. Will defo be back lol xxxxx

This is the 2nd year we've booked for the Burns Night meal! The 3 course meal was just as Excellent as last year, if you can get here then come & enjoy this very well priced (£25pp) very VERY tasty meal. The creamy Neeps & tatters Soup, the perfectly delicious 3 mini lamb haggis with kale, gravy, mash & gravy followed by a choice of savoury cheese with crackers or sweet sticky warm pudding with whiskey ice cream & then a Dram of of Scotch!! Wow!! We will be back next year!! Such lovely service & staff. 😁
P.
Nice place. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food.
L. A. E.
Fantastic service and staff. Great location and beer garden... also dog friendly !! Good burgers too.
L. H.
I have been a regular to this pub for a few months now. The staff are brilliant, so welcoming, and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The food is lovely too, the fish and chips is great and you get large portions; perfect after walking all day along the river. I've spent many afternoons admiring the view out of the window, and I'll be spending many more there.
Z. H.
Great drinks, amazing plant based burgers. No short of options for vegans!! Just on the canal, lots of space.
M. O.
Staff excellent & decor is exactly what a pub should look like. Del ain't bad either 😁
J. L.
Great beer, family friendly, spacious, good food (albeit everything is very and overly expensive - 13 quid for a mac and cheese? Bonkers). Outdoor space for the summer and cozy for the winter. Only other gripe is it nearly always takes ages to get served at the bar!
C. M. G.
The food is just great. Really friendly staff.
Not sure if they changed the chef recently, but reading the previous comments we went the first time a bit hesitant. We were gladly surprised to see how good the quality of the food and now we have became regulars.
If you are near Clapton this is great place to enjoy a tasty meal looking at the river!
A. B.
A lovely pub with good food and beer on the Lea
A. A.
Nice spacious external garden alongside the river. Addition of a burger shack a good addition to the menu.
G. O.
Great pub and location! I had a delicious vegan salad and couple of pints next to the canal!
The staff is very kind and professional! Lovely people! Me and my friends had a great experience
We will be back for sure:)
J. K.
Wow what a fab pub! Great location right by the canal. Huge beer garden and loads of space inside too. We ate delicious burgers from the outdoor barbecue. The perfect pitstop for anyone cycling or walking along the canal. I'll definitely be back!
T. B.
Really good Young's pub on the River Lea. Has an excellent beer garden which is great in the summer, and inside is pretty cosy too.
Good selection of beers (the typical Young's beverages) and a great menu for lunch.
It can get very busy on weekends, so I would advise on booking.
A. S.
I would love to give five stars for the food alone, which is absolutely delicious. But unfortunately we had a bad experience on Sunday with our two mains arriving 15 minutes apart. It's the first rule of serving food that you never bring out just one meal at a time for a group of more than one. Someone is going to be sitting there looking at their food sitting in front of them and the other person is going to be wondering where theirs is, politely saying "oh, do start" but their companion is feeling rather awkward and rude if they tuck in. Normally you can easily forgive a few minutes' difference, but this was excessive. It was compounded by a few things: being full inside we sat outside, meaning that in winter the food gets cold super quickly. Secondly, we were promised the other meal "next in line" but that still took ages. (It was obviously BS, because another excuse later on involved them having to deal with a large table first. Hmmmmm.) We had to ask more than once. Then an excuse of "they went on different tickets, so they won't come out at the same time," is a very feeble excuse indeed. My friend ordered the meals at the same time, for the same table number, together. All he did was split the payment between two cards, which you'd think was frequent enough not to cause a "computer says no" issue. Finally, the waitress (bless her, she was very busy, but even so) was completely unapologetic. Just a simple "sorry about that"/"we're really busy, please forgive us" etc would have helped, along with "I'll arrange a refund/free dessert" etc, and probably would diffuse the situation, but she obviously didn't have any training on how to deal with it. It's not her fault, it's the system you're using, and the person who took the order at the bar should have ensured it was clear the whole meal was ordered together, to be brought out together. Anyway- seems like a big rant for a small issue but it totally ruined the experience and was a totally unreasonable wait with no apology whatsoever. Shame because the fish and chips are absolutely delicious. My friend's pork was nice but he couldn't enjoy it much because we'd got so cold waiting for his, and I'd nearly finished mine, that we wanted to just leave by then.
A. K. Y.
Lovely spot on the canal and great food. Open sandwiches are amazing! Felt very safe with covid procedures in place. Recommend booking first.
D. W.
Great pub, decent beer, nice outdoor spot next to the canal that has a stretch tent over it at the moment.
G. W.
Excellent burger and a pint with a lovely view of the canal! Definitely go back for more!!
K. M.
Pub on the canal, sausage rolls available, outdoor seating. What more can we ask for from a pub in this day and age.
J. O.
This pub is great for a sunny afternoon pint by the canal, but don't bother with the food. The veggie burger was £9.50 and the menu said it had fennel, beetroot, mozzarella and sour cream. It was the most tasteless veggie burger I've eaten, the sour cream wasn't sour and had more of a whipped texture and there was no sign of fennel or mozzarella. The fries were also very bland. I ended up leaving half of my meal as I was so bored eating it!
D. V.
As a hipsters pub its ok. Food was certainly not worth the excessive cost and service incredibly slow and unorganised. A place designed to take as much money from fools willing to pay, to be seen to be a part of a community that believes itself to be better than working class.
M.
Thank You to Isabella and her team for taking care of us today. It’s always nice to have such a pleasant smile and atmosphere. Enjoyed the plant based burger too 👏🏿🎉
J. C. M. C.
Amazing location, food quality and very good service.
T. W.
It's perfectly fine. A good place to take parents. The beer selection is standard, wine is fine, roasts are great and if you avoid the weekends the canal side is calming
M. M.
Friendly service, invisible radiators and exquisite lamps with anti-theft glue. What more could you want?
Only downside was the very tightly spaced font on the menus. My dyslexic wife was in a bit of a pickle.
a. b.
This place has improved vastly over the last year in my opinion. Staff are super friendly now and service is great. Excellent mulled drinks for the winter season and delicious food. Please can you get a better craft beer selection is my only request!
T. M.
Great riverside pub, great food
R. C.
Really like the place and location, but recently it put its prices up and now they are central London prices. Too expensive now for the location. Food is also way over priced. We used to come here a lot after work, just for a pint on our way home, but since the price hikes we've only popped in two or three times all summer. It's a shame as its so nice by the canal. Lower your prices POW back to affordable rates and you'll have a packed pub!
A. F.
Some great beer and good food, with friendly staff.
J. F.
Lovely pub on the canal for a pint in the sun. Serving classic pub grub done to an acceptable standard but in no way pushing the (canal) boat out, burgers went down the best in our group. A reasonable selection of beers and other summer drinks flowing all day long, bar service was reasonably fast given the volume of customers but could have been slicker with staff members often going back and forth for different things unnecessarily slowing them down. Definitely a nice place to stop for a drink.
s. s.
Such a cosy cute setting for a Sunday roast. Family friendly 🤗
J. R.
Ok - 9 months on from my last review below (3 stars) I visited again tonight... Thursday evening, great staff and delicious food!
I'm actually fed up with paying premium prices for average food everywhere these days. So it was great having good food cooked well. The Ox cheek with a spinach side was fab.
This place has shot up in my book. Well done guys and girls 👍
Before....
Good atmosphere, good location, food a bit expensive.
Had a good evening.
Just a bit spoiled by 1 waitress who was not at all friendly and seemed put out that we actually wanted to order some drinks from her at the bar!
T. A.
Excellent roasts and great warm and welcoming vibes in winter time. In summer it's a great stop off before or after walks on the Hackney marshes or along the canal. Decent beers and friendly staff
H. H.
Been using the pub for years and have see many changes.
Now a bit pricey but there is a great choice of wines and beers.
Super staff all round.
One gripe however is that quite a few times my wife Christine and I have tried the old classic.. Chicken Kiev....not a dish to get perfect and this in is no exception to that.
I see it is not on the menu currently but I hope it will return
..this time much better.
B. D.
Friendly staff, plenty of seats inside and out. Food was good triple fried chips were banging. Good seletion of drinks on a lovely setting by the canal. Wicked when the sun is shining.
L. A.
Lovely pub, great food, and excellent service by Claudio! Great experience.
J. S.
After a lovely stroll along the river Lee we happened upon an idyllic pub set by the riverfront named the Princess of Wales. It had a lovely welcoming atmosphere and was dog friendly!
The food there is wholesome if a touchy pricey. That being said it was one of the best club sandwiches I had ever had. The mulled wine was also a welcome treat on a brisk morning. The cheese board was a lack luster affair with only three crackers for an entire cheese board! All in all an almost perfect end to a Saturday morning stroll :)
J
s. h.
Been coming hear for few years, food great & service too from Seb. Turkey roast was fab. Very covid secure & conscious definitely be back!
T. K.
I expected and wanted to like this place more. But a couple of rookie errors badly lets it down. There's too much bland lager on tap (4 choices) and only 1 craft beer (I'm not counting Camden). They need much more independent craft beer. Also, the TVs ruin the ambience - I can watch trash on TV at home. In saying that, the burger was excellent (at £14 mind you).
K. P.
Nice pub on the canal, decent selection of beers but nothing that will blow you away. The pub serves food that looks good, but I haven't eaten here. They also have a seperate burger shack and grill outside which looks great
M. “. O. K.
The pub is in a great location, just off the busy Lea Bridge Rd, so good for public transport, and right next to the River Lea, affording great, tranquil views.
Having been here numerous times I'll admit it was seldom my first choice as staff and drinks were, to be polite, mediocre.
That said, I popped in today (22 June 2017) because it has been refurbished and I felt it was time to try again. Glad I did. Pub looks good, new beer garden furniture and they had Beavertown Neck Oil on draught, which is nice.
J.
Nice beer and cosy atmosphere by the canal.
D. M.
I have been there a few times on nice afternoons. The pub is in a great location and the outside area is nice along the River Lea but suffers from the fumes of the Bridge. I was there during quiet times so did not feel the service was slow at all. Didn't have any food but the burger shack did not smell that appetising tbh.
One comment if anyone reads this: please don't put you're large menu chalkboards on the canal towpath, I'm sure you will cause accidents (if you haven't already) because it is a bottleneck for cyclists and pedestrians - there is lots on space on the first step.
Y. M. M.
I really liked the location, this pub is beautiful. However my burger was not tasty and they didn't even ask me how I wanted the meat cooked. And the full English breakfast.. was pretty much like an Almost English breakfast, they didn't put bacon, we asked for it and they said that they prepared like this : No bacon... :(
M. C.
Bank Holiday, lovely day for a pub dinner. We arrive. No signage to indicate no food on. We pay £19 for a bottle of wine and head off to peruse the menu. No food as they are closing for refurbishment for 3 weeks. Will it be even more ridiculously priced when we come back? The staff are nice but we would have stayed for the quiz and more drinks were we allowed to bring in a takeaway. Just a disorganized, expensive mess...
D. A.
A really nice pub and restaurant right by the river lea canal. This is a great place to go on spring and summer days. A excellent range of drinks on offer. a great food menu and lots of outdoor space makes this place one of my favourite pubs in Hackney
S. P.
Great beer, a very.goos and filling. Burger and chips, by the shack. And the outdoor space by the canal is lovely. What else do.you need in a sunny Sunday afternoon? A service was a bit.slow but the food came very fast!
K. K.
This is one of the traditional classic country side pub with beautiful views of river with amazing options for Drinks and food...
Usually busy on weekends as it's close to highway .
In short good service awesome food and fab drinks optionstloved it..... Must try
K. A.
Here for a post-lockdown roast and treated to a friendly and attentive table service despite my poor attempts to arrange the reservation right first time! Great food and friendly atmosphere!
J. C.
Great food. Solid veggie/vegan options and comprehensive allergy protections.
A little expensive.
T. W.
Having a beer in this well presented pleasant pub beside the Lea River. Nice cross section of locals in here, hasn't complete lost its soul and attraction to local old boys by going hipster. It loses a star just because it seems a bit expensive for this part of East London. £5.25 for a pint of Youngs 4.1% Pale Ale. Actually stopped by for a late lunch but £13.65 for burger and fries is a lot. If it were sensibly priced at £10-£12 I'd be eating here now.
P. Q.
The Princess is my local and such a lovely place, very chill, the food is top notch, the staff are always great, funny and helpful and we have a mini dachshund, so dog friendly is always a bonus!
S. S.
Great pub with good food especially the roasts and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. Super on it with covid restrictions. Defo book on a weekend.
O. H.
Quite pricey for what you get. My friend thought he accidently ordered a child's roast.
P. S.
Situated by, I think the river Lea, near the old waterworks nature reserve which is a few minutes walk away. A dog friendly pub with lots of bowls for once. The food was a bit pricey but you expect that in London nowadays.
s. j.
Great for Sunday roast! Right on the water
I. M.
Very nice pub and really nice ales
t. k.
Great choice of ales, amazing and helpful staff, such a nice pub ! Thank you Princess of Wales 🤩🍻
N. N.
Me and four of my friends we've been visiting Princess of Wales Pub at a recommendation of a friends and it was the best decision we ever made, outstanding service ,the staff is so nice and helpfull, the food was so good and fresh(everything is made on site)and the cocktails este amazing.
Definetly conving back.
H. P.
Excellent pub! Amazing food and service! Lovely views of the canal and most importantly dog friendly!
J. C.
Great pub doing some fantastic things with food. I've been a regular here for a while now and I've never been let down yet. The chef is incredibly talented and the ever changing menu is a masterclass in seasonality and creativity. Everything is scratch cooked from the incredible scotch eggs to the pork scratchings. The pheasant with girolles and chestnuts I had tonight was excellent. Autumn on a plate. The spiced comice pear and fig tart with home made ice cream was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted. My only criticisms was that the pheasant breast was slightly overcooked and could have done with a touch less cooking and the tart base was a bit tough with the spicing a touch heavy handed but really these are quite minor as the meal was exceptional for a gastro pub. Risks need to be taken and that's what this place excels at. Gutsy food with flair and pride. The chef has a bright future ahead of him if he continues to cook food to this level of passion and skill.
S. A.
Was having a lovely Sunday morning walk along the canal with my other half when we stumbled across this lovely pub for a cup of tea and coffee- was very impressed with the decor, I loved the books on every table- seriously it was the nicest cappuccino I've ever had and we will be going back this week to have lunch!
s. b.
Great staff, but it's never been the same since the hipster Hackney mummies and daddies makeover...however, I have to say, service is great, staff are lovely, food is excellent and I'm very happy to recommend it.
B. C.
Great place to chill out with a drink and food.
Especially outside in the sunshine by the water ways in Clapton or cozy inside by the fire. Not cheap but lovely!
You can take the family or relax on your own. Nice!
T.
3 starts because it's on the canal!
3 stars because ever since using their app I've had so many rubbish sales calls, and that's the brewery's fault not the pub.
great place to stop off.
D. D.
Good selection of beers on tap, good wines, nice atmosphere, lots of outdoor seating on the canal. A real transformation from the scary pub of fifteen years ago, now filled with couples and families. Haven't tried the food yet, but I will.
I. K.
Pub on the canal front with a lovely big beer garden/terrace on 3 sides of the pub. Good selection of beers and ales. Basic food menu - as it should be for a pub of this type. A bit pricy however for what it is.
S. W.
Nice pub and the roasts looked amazing, only problem was the price, to be expected in this part of London. Got duped for the Pimm's charged for a large without asking for one
M. D.
Really quick service and great tasting roast. Staff were very attentive too. Would highly recommend!
L. S.
The staff are fabulous, super friendly. I go for drinks normally. Even my dog drags me in there sometimes (kid you not!)
I. B.
Friendly staff, great roast, always a winner. Make sure to book in advance. Also perfect to sit out and watch the canal traffic.
G. M.
Lovely pub with nice view by the Canal. Great place for a drink with friends, relaxed homely atmosphere. Food is good but a bit on the higher price for a pub; although it's much better than your average pub food.
J. R.
Great pub, nice location- you can have a lovely walk and really build up a thirst and appetite. Great staff- really friendly and happy (this has not changed since it opened, which often it does). Feels like Islington on a canal path. You'd never guess you're in zone 2! We don't go to Stokey so much any more since this pub was taken over- we don't need to :)
J. D.
Amazing pub, great service! Perfect location after a dog walk on the marshes!
A. J.
Lovely on a warm summers day, good atmosphere
T. E.
Great
T. H.
Great outside area for your Covid needs, and lovely half pints. Seb was very friendly and helpful.
M. Z.
Food wasn't great
Burgers are not the best choice
P. K.
The main meals are marvellous, but the deserts are very expensive for minimal substance. The staff are brilliant, and the virus protection is fantastic. Thank you.
N. J.
Lovely pub, great for sunny days by the canal. Lovely food, but service can be slow on busy days. Bring back the lovely flat bread pizzas, please! ...maybe as a bar snack?
N. H.
If you had seen the previous incarnation of the pub then the version now is ten times the better. But given its close proximity to the Clapton Heart just up the road it definitely fails to still compete. However, reasonably good food and a thoughtful (but definitely commercial) selection of beers still makes it a good option in an area short of wothwhile pubs.
R. C.
Great pub, relaxed atmosphere and yummy food. Great for kids as well. Good changing facilities!! In the summer it's brill to sit outside and watch the canals drift by.
M. C.
Despite the nice makeover, there's a strong smell from the loos as you walk in. We sat by a window and it was freezing because the heating wasn't on. Food is underwhelming. The chicken thighs are tiny and overly sticky.. The kohl rabi slaw should have tasted fresh and crisp but all I got was mayo. My partner's burger was bland.
D. D.
Location - Amazing.
Beer - Great.
Decor - Top Notch.
Food - Generally great.
Sunday Roasts - Please sort out the Gravy. It's the one niggling little thing that stops us coming on a Sunday. Please sort out your Sunday Roast and I'll be there every Sunday.
J. S.
Lovely place. Very friendly.
T. B.
Comfy Riverside pub, expensive for a drink though.(London prices or maybe too trendy people willing to pay over the odds)
In response to reply: Thanks Hollie, I don't live in the area so can't compare with local establishments. However "In line with local area" implies to me you don't want any competition and are happy to rely on location rather than lower prices. Anyway I'd still come again but not for an all nighter. Cheers
E. E.
Very nice place but pity they allow animals in, so was very uncomfortable having dog shake fur and God knows what flies out of their body. Other than that, it's a nice place though I won't go back as its a place for animal lovers.
S. S.
A bustling pub, full of people enjoying the river on a sunny day. Catch the tube to Tottenham Hale on a sunny day and enjoy one of the best inner city walks in London along the River Lea... after an hour or so stroll past houseboats and parks you'll arrive here for that perfect drink break in a classic traditional riverside pub. Even better, carry on down the river for another half an hour to the Olympic Park and the fantastic Number 90 warehouse bar and terrace for lunch.
K. S.
Love this place, lovely location, friendly staff, beautiful decor, very easy going n relaxing..A little expensive but totally worth it!! I've had to edit my review as this pub is becoming very untidy, disorganised and quite a lot of ‘unpleasant visitors’ in car park at times...
A. T.
Brunch menu advertised on the website was nonexistent! (Visited on a Sunday) No food except burgers until 12. Service was good though otherwise. Nice setting on the canal.
R. C.
Service is often poor but it's been refurbished and is now aiming at the incoming hipster community; with food, wine and brand ales. It's ok, but it just feels slightly stressed-out with no real identity.
On a nice day you can sit outside on the steps and watch canal barges chug past.
C. M.
Food was very tasty but portion just too small (chicken Kiev)
S. H.
Very near perfect. A few more ales on the bar and more kids options on the menu and it would be there. Lovely location. Looking good inside and out. Beer and staff both great
M. B.
Good pub food and menu choice.
C. C.
Really enjoyed lunch here. Great staff, really good food. Not cheap but not outrageously expensive either. Worth booking a table in advance though as they are very popular.
J. C.
A great pub that I often visit! Fantastic service, delicious food and very dog friendly.
C. M.
Toilets have a tidy little shelf for syringes and pipes etc.
I did such a small poo it was hilarious.
Beer and wine was fine..
Food was good.
Thanks princess of whales.
King of the orcas xxx
l. e.
Fantastic vegan options and a perfect and cosy place to eat after a walk on the marshes.
Love that there is a real fire too.
K. G.
Nice Riverside pub, bit expensive.
D. O.
This is our local and we love it! I think the new renovation is really well done. It has a cosy vibe with a log burner. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and homemade. Lots of excellent veggie options. Thanks team PoW! x
S. T.
Nice pub but limited big brand beer selection, needs some more craft stuff on tap. Quite expensive. But, excellent riverside location so worth it.
S. M.
Great pub with good friendly staff and amazing atmosphere. Enjoyed my sunday roast and the food in general.
Love this place!
C. D.
This is a great pub in the summer which also has excellent opening hours food is a tad expensive however good atmosphere and cheery bar staff with very decent bar snacks.
F. C.
Great atmosphere, drinks and kitchen. A personal favourite; 100% would recommend if you are in the area.
M. M.
Great Atmosphere and friendly staff, good is good also
N. M.
Waiters are the best and gave us all a good laugh. Food was great and drinks were bang on
p. p.
Best pub in the area... Very very nice fresh food, good views, good vibes and very nice staff... Perfect for a meal on the weekend, or a pint after work!
A suggestion.... Try the baked camembert.... OMG! Delicious!
A. C.
Bang average pub with few redeeming features. The quiz is accomplished but the music round was boycotted on last visit due to broken soundsystem. Food is admittedly decent despite tg grotty burger shack out back
M. A.
Walk in and the world will take on an outside quality. This place has the cosiest warmest feel of almost any pub I know. Great on winter and in summer, the outside tables by the canal are great for sharing tasty meals with your friends.
m. g.
The team working together. Very responsive to customers requests. Very strong ratings in the summer months. Nice cool energy in a busy area. Unique charm.
A. T.
It's a lovely pub, even lovlier now the outside area has been revamped. It is on the pricier side for food (and boize) which makes a luke warm Sunday roast even more unforgivable. I almist asked for mine to have a quick zap in the microwave.
M. M.
Feels like a country pub, and being next to the canal it’s not a million miles away from that. Staff are nice, but service can be a bit hit or miss. Selection of beers and drinks is good, and the menu is a touch above the usual.
g. b.
Great pub, nice atmosphere and amazing food! Dog friendly plus Perfect service!
M.
Great roast, lovely staff, a bit steep in price.
L. R.
Wow, came to the ice rink opposite for a match and ate here for Sunday lunch. Fantastic meal, my children had the fish goujons in a bap with three times fried chips and pork and apple sausages with mash, wheras I had the roast beef. My youngest claims it is the best dinner he ever had! Super, fast, friendly service, huge portions and view of the ducks and barges on the canal. The most amazing yorkshires and home made mayo, added to fabulous presentation of meals definitely made this 10/10 for us. Couldn't say what the deserts were like because we were all stuffed after the delicious, huge first course! Wish we had gone on a colder day because they even have an open fire!!
S. D.
Sausage rolls here are great!
Nice to while away and watch the river go by.
Never had a meal here but good selection of beers and gins.
S. M.
Great garden, great food, even better staff! Turning into my new local!
R. D. G.
Love this place, so glad they opened up again. Canal side with outdoor super covid friendly and such friendly staff
S. C.
Roast was lovely - pork belly superb and portions are generous. Nice atmosphere on a rainy Sunday
I. W.
Good table service, not too crowded. Food was lovely.
J. F.
Great food and lovely friendly staff!
P. F.
Splendid area by the canal with benches and a smoking area.
Great choice of beers.
Not tried the food yet but smells wonderful and plenty of things I like the look of
P. L.
Great pub in the summer and even better in the winter with the open fire and very cosy feel. Just had an amazing stuffed pork belly roast. One of the best I've ever tasted.
K. I.
Always a favourite to take our friends & guests. Good food ; nice atmosphere, but it was a bit cold last night & the music a little too loud for a conversation.
K.
Beautiful pub with lovely chilled out atmosphere. Staff are both very helpful and friendly and the food is worthy of a place in a top end restaurant.
J. L.
Great pub, good food, beer, nice staff, kid friendly and lovely river views. Great for pre or after canal or marshes walk
J. S.
Sunday walk in Walthamstow Wetland then pre booked meal at TPOW. We were late by 30 mins but they managed to fit us in after a short wait. Lovely meal. Friendly Helpfull Polite staff. Will be back 👍
S.
Dog friendly and great Good! Really friendly staff. Wish they still did the club sandwich though!
H. E.

The staff was really friendly, and the food was okay, however a bit pricey for basic pub food

Nice location next to the river. Beer selection is decent and food is okay. It does get very crowded on a sunny day, but that's par for the course in London.
D. S.
Outdoor seating by river side gr8 for sunny weekends !
A. H.
Nicely done out pub in good location right by the river. Quite busy usually and on a sunny evening, very busy outside on the large courtyard area. Worth a visit.
S. W.
Good outdoor covered seating. There is some heating, but it's not too powerful.
A. C.
Best location for a pub along the canal with amazing décor and seating indoor or outdoors. The selection of cider is decent and worth a trip !
M. R.
Excellent pint of Young's Special. Lovely spot by the canal.

Great scotch eggs, nice view of the canal, friendly staff. Would come again for substantial meal.

Good food and good sized portions though not cheap. Staff ok but not sure about who was serving us. Nice atmosphere and quiet so might be different on a busier day.

Very lovely place & nice environment by the side of the river to chill & have some pint with friends & very lovely staffs too...
N. G.
Fantastic Sunday lunch (pricey but worth it) great selection of beers and wines. Only complaint is that it does get super busy.
C. S.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because we didn't get to try the food as we only found this gem on our walk round while waiting to go ice skating but hope to try again soon
G. D. S.
Nice to sit by the river but £4 for frozen curly fries is ridiculous. Especially because there were only about 15 of them in the tray.
Shame as it's a good location
c. j.
Great place to eat , good food good location .
K. K.
It's cosy beautiful spot by the river. Perfect for a lovely evening out!

Brilliant dog friendly pub with an amazing assortment of Sunday roast dinners. Would highly recommend.

Came in for a quick drink while passing. The drinks were fine, the barman was very nice. We did not eat as it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner.
J. M.
Great pub, lovely decor, good food, good beer, great atmosphere and lovely lovely staff. Plus you can watch the boats going out, and coming back again
A. T.
First visited when it was Prince of Wales back in 1980s. Much changed since then, like most other places in Clapton. Good range of drinks, friendly staff, food a little pricy for what it is, best thing is the location bang on the river.
S. E.
Nicely refurbished pub with a friendly atmosphere and they welcome dogs, but it's pricey - over 12 quid for 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps!
İ. B.
Pheasant dish was delicious. Close river view. Bathroom needs some renovation, but clean. A local pub for locals, not for tourists.
E. B.
The best. Lovely mackerel, treacle tart and Doombar bitter. Table service professional and charming. Good pub for dogs.
E. C.
Nice spot to stop off with the dog before or after the Marshes
J. S.
We were a party of 10, the food was nice but cold and we waited nearly an hour for pudding. Otherwise nice place. Lots of choice.
M. H.
I like the pub and the location but the food is just too expensive: £9 for a burger without chips (they're £4 extra for a modest portion).
G. T.
Beautiful gastropub by the canal run by a friendly Italian team! Balanced and tasty dishes. Interesting deserts too!
B. E.
Nice enough, just eye wateringly expensive. Cheapest glass of red wine £6+ a mean serving of fries £4 in a tin can
R. B.
I worked here as a barman 45 years ago, still the same pub , seems to attract nice people, great vibe,
T. C.

Service terribly slow sometimes.

M. S.
Cool and big, looking onto the canal, outdoor seating. Nice food. Family friendly
L. M.
A lovely place for a stop break. Very pleasant.
I. C.
Good view, good beer, nice service
R. C.
Fish and chips are reliably the best thing on the menu, but beware the 'mushy peas' - a curious sweet-tasting purée of garden peas rather than being made properly from reconstituted dried marrowfat peas.
T. K.
Food was pretty good. The service was a little odd with a few mix ups. The app required is very bad
C. M.
Great food. Nice atmosphere. staff not trained to make any drinks. Drinks limit.
P. S.
Great view, nice service and glad to be in the sun
J. T.
