Reviews of St Stephen's Tavern
N.
Bit small and table are super close to each other.
No music at all makes it a bit boring.
Staff were super friendly and the place is dog friendly and really cool style.
D. T.
An oft overlooked little gem on Westminster bridge. Fine beer and helpful staff, made to look very Victorian. Sherlock Holmes used to be a regular and even Dr Watson would pop in for the odd Badger bitter or two. A good place to call in for a pint or some Fish and Chips!
C. B.
Always pop into this beautiful pub for a drink if I’m in the area.
Despite the premium location the prices for food and drink are pretty decent.
A good selection of beers - some craft and and normal - which is really appreciated. Food is tasty too and served quickly.
Staff are always great.
J. t.
Two lovely workers, I believe Stephanie and Ugne served me tonight. Two Guinness', two vodka and cranberry, and four Tequila between me and my better half. Absolute stellar pints and delicious shots!! Would 100% recommend. Fab 👍
A. B.
Love the old historic feeling I got from here, cost me almost £8 for two lemonades, could do with washing the glasses better tho as myn felt a bit grubby, perfect location for sightseeing refreshments, Big Ben will look better when the scaffolding has gone 👍🏻
R. G.
Building has clearly been here since the 1960s, staff are very kind and generous. Food looks fantastic and a real old school English vibe here in the day. Ordered a couple of beers on tap, came to just over £11. Fairly hidden away but cosy inside.
A. W.
This is a very decent traditional pub right across from parliament and the Thames. We has a burger and pork pie, both of which were tasty, but not exceptional. The prices are very reasonable. The walls also have lots of politics related antique decor and memorabilia.
B. M.
Great place for drinks and food. Beautiful and historic pub with great décor and a very helpful staff, who helped me organise a special event. Would defo visit again.
M. P.
I'd drink a Guiness in a perfect place. Good ambient. High level of the service we received of the workers. In center, belong Big Ben.
A. C.
Great food, triple cooked chips and a cracking pint. As for the interior.... oh wow!!
S. K.
Charming little pub in a nice location right out side of big Ben. Only popped in for one drink . But from my short time in there I had a nice experience. Staff was all friendly was nice and clean with a good out side seating area and OK selection of drinks in offer . And for the location the price wasn't to bad either
S. S.
Great service and atmosphere. The prices are a bit high.. Ordered fish at chips for £14. It was good enough seeing but if you ask me whether it was worth it, my answer will be no. I've had fish and chips at the Gateway Casino in London Ontario, and that was much better tasting fish and chips than this tavern. And it was only CAD10 , which is about £5. I guess it's because it's next to Buckingham palace. Will I come back, yes, but not for iconic fish and chips.
J. R.
Had an awesome lunch here with the wife way back. Table was reserved earlier for us.
Fantastic fish and chips! Will definitely be back once it’s up again.
O. W.
Great beer, friendly staff and excellent food at reasonable (for London) prices. Highly recommend the fish & chips, beautifully cooked to perfection in a light and crispy beer batter, served with good chips and a generous dollop of homemade tartar sauce.
S. T.
I have been here a few times now and the food is excellent! The Sunday roast is absolutely amazing. It's in an amazing location right across the street from Big Ben and Parliament. It is rather small so accommodating large parties might be tricky. You can usually walk in and be seated right away for small groups. Even though it was packed, our food came pretty quickly. I highly recommend it.
l. g.
First pub I ever visited while in England. Had fish and chips. It was really pretty inside, staff was nice. It is also right next to big Ben and has outdoor seating.
M. N.
Great food. The pie with steak was the favorite of our group but everything tasted great. I had the Earl Grey tea and it was perfect for a rainy day. We initially thought it was going to be a tourist trap because of the locations and the prices but everything tasted good. Our server was also very nice although they forgot one of our teas at the beginning of the meal.
C. '. H.
A true tourist trap of a pub.
The beer was OK, but the seating area was waay to hot and it is not very big either.
There are many better pubs around if you look.
R. H.
Super busy pub near west minster as well as parliament. It’s cozy and the company is great. They have a great selection of beer and you can’t beat the view of Big Ben. This place is great for a quick pint or a long stay. Give it a shot!
M. K.
Great place but pure choice
S. S.
Quick lunches offered of traditional English fare with local craft ale on tap. Outdoors seating available on the awkwardly angled pavement. Great view of Parliament!
G. A.
Always enjoy going to this pub on out visits to London, fab location. Nice range of wines and beers. They have a good outdoor area now.
Y. S.
Gorgeous dining and breakfast experience one step away from Westminster Abbey. Really took me back in time to Victorian England! Delicious food and tasty tap ales and beer.
D. S.
Good location and very close to Big Ben. I really enjoyed the decoration of this place and the staff was very nice. I got the vegetarian lasagne and didn't really care for it, but I tend to be very picky. My friend got the Sheppard's pie and said it was great.
T. H.
Good fish & chips and burgers. We didn't have a reserved table, but we waited 2 minutes for a table. Nice cousy place.
M. R.
Best fish and chips I've ever tasted, and the tartar sauce was out of this world
E. S.
Came in a few minutes before the kitchen closed. Staff was very friendly. Ordered the traditional fish and chips, house tarter sauce was very good!
D. B.
Very pretty but quite small inside and cramped. Clean and not too expensive for the area. Bad food, burned veggie burger.
J. B.
I really enjoyed the fish and chips platter at this tavern! The curry sauce was a great compliment to the fish and battered scampi. I love peas but this was the first time I had them mashed. I was impressed. Everything tasted great as well as the lemonade. Located right across the street from Westminster and Big Ben. Very reasonably priced as well!
C. K. B.
Old, authentic, proper pub. Top atmosphere
R. B.
Speedy courteous service, lovely coffee and friendly staff. Food was great too. Really glad we found this place to eat!!
A. D.
It is a great historical pub, really charming, but at the same time very crowded with tourists.
Great location, it’s just opposite to Westminster.
We stopped for a quick beer while touring.
A. C.
Best fish & chips across the street from Big Ben, London. Don't miss it...!!!
P. B.
Good little pub for a drink out of the cold, we didn't eat but the food that came into looked good!
Didn't see any politicians, although it was Sunday!
J. D.
Was a lovely old pub very comfy and good staff and food was also good would return again.
J. C.
Lovely little taven food and drink was really good quick service, and not to expensive.
A. T.
A very nice Westminster pub, and conveniently next to the tube. I've used since about 1975. A one floor pub now, it used to be 2 bars on the ground floor, and a massive dive bare in the cellar. Plus 1st floor restaurant. Lost about 80 seats when remodelling took place years ago.
A. C.
Packed with history and amazing decor.Great beer as well with friendly staff.A must if in the area.
P. C.
Is opposite Houses of Parliament. Historic pub, with very old bar and fittings, going back in time for a beer, enjoy
P. B.
Best fish and chips I've had in years, great tasting fish with their triple cooked chips... add a sneaky pint of lushious IPA and you have yourself a contender for meal of the year
A. H.
Chilled environment easy access even with track and trace procedures. The mrs had fish and chips that was a bit pricey but was well worth it. The pints were flowing and the staff were helpful. Give it a try.
b. r.
Very busy but in walking distance from our hotel so we gave it a try. Staff was very nice and got us a place to sit. Even though they where packed we got our food and drinks rather quickly. We would eat here again. My husband got the Thai green curry and I got the fish and chips. Both where good.
M. P.
Nice pub near the Big Ben, crowded but with friendly staff. Have a solid selection of taped beer.
L. G.
Beautiful bar under Big Ben, good beers, fish and chips, chicken, non-enthusiastic staff.
A. F. F. C.
it is a good place to drink some beers and a good London traditional fish and chips, very recommended place in a beautiful city
S. N. C.
It was a drab January morning and walking from the Abbey towards Big Ben, we wanted a place to get warm and have something hot, and this place just popped up. Situated at one of the best locations of London, this pub gets crowded very fast, however we were lucky to get a good table and have a heavy English Breakfast. The food is really good. Ranking it 4 stars only because it gets really crowded
M.
Very loud and hectic here. We were sat at a tiny table next to the area that the waitress picks up and brings all the plates. So she was constantly against us. The fish and chips were 14 pounds, and was nothing special. This pub is just an overpriced tourist pub. Move on to the next furthest from tourist.
j. e.
Proper London pub , good beer and cider , the staff were excellent, we had a laugh
B. S.
Great lunch!
E. N.
An excellent example of a traditional English pub with the service exactly how it should be and of course the food to match
Quite lovely I can recommend it
S. p.
Atmosphere was a bit flat, Friday evening, no music playing, was too quiet.
O. D. (.
Very convenient Tavern immediately out of the Tube in Westminster.
Decent prices and good food !
G. M.
We were looking for a place to drink before heading for a meal and found an outside table at St Stephen's Tavern. The outside seating area is at the side of the pub between another building with one end fronting on to the approach to Westminster Bridge so there is a fair amout of traffic noise. The table service was efficient and the largers served were good, however the bitter was a little disappointing as it was too warm and a little flat.
D. J.
Always visit the Tavern on visits to London ideally located opposite Big Ben and at the northern end of Westminster bridge..a good selection of beers and good portions of food served daily. Extra seating out side all socially distanced with good covid checkin and hand cleaning stations. Staff very friendly and helpful .
D. R.
Great old fashioned pub with real ales, good lagers and nice interior. Considering how many tourists are here, it keeps its atmosphere well, serving a range of mostly Scottish ales in a beautiful old fashioned bar. If you're lucky you'll get to glimpse of an occasional MP or big-wig visiting parliament, we sat next to a couple of university professors last time who'd just been talking to MPs.
B. L.
Friendly staff, decent prices, good atmosphete
T. M.
If you like to sit on a little kiddie stool, then this is your spot. While it did have a nice ambience to it, you have to go to the bar to order your food and drinks, and NONE of the staff were english. Food was mediocre, and several items listed on the menu were no longer sold, traditional Pork Pie for example.
S. A. J.
Great old school London pub! Fab xx
L. M.
Amazing place! As central and crowded, you'd expect average food and just OK service. The food is great and the service is friendly, though!! :) It works late on Sundays, which is awesome!
C. W.
I stopped in for breakfast September of 2018 while visiting London from Canada. It has a very charming and comforting atmosphere and the tea and food were delicious and very fresh. If I ever find myself in this part of the world again, I would love to go back for afternoon tea
T. B.
Fabulous London pub with excellent food and friendly staff
d. s.
Only went in for a drink, but the staff were really nice.then only thing is that they didn't do small children's drinks, we had a 6 year old with us so she had to share with us.
G. R.
Location is great to stop for a quick pint, you can get some seats here if your lucky as it's quite busy here. There are reserved tables for people ordering food but I wouldn't £14 for fish and chips?
A. B.
Nice but small some staff a bit surely and looked like they couldn't be bothered
H.
small quaint place, good atmosphere and nice selection of beers. Division bell is excellent novelty during debates.
I. S.
Amazing place, you can hear the parlament bell in this place calling for the MP to go back to work, quite amusing
J. D.
Historic pub next to the Palace of Westminster, once frequented by Churchill and (theoretically) still a regular haunt of sitting MPs. Interesting interior with portraits of old politicians and of course, the division bell which is probably the main attraction here.
As a pub, it's poor. Far too many staff, abrupt service (expect to order within five seconds of sitting down) and some clearly struggled with English. Overpriced even for the area, nearly £6 for a pint of cask ale.
Worth nipping in for a quick one given it's historical significance, but no reason to stay.
P. C.
Excellent vibes and great fish & chips
J. G.
Good food at great location with friendly and Helpful staff.
A. J. (.
I had fish and chips few times here, delicious!
J. C.
One of the most traditional pubs in Westminster. The interior and exterior are in keeping to it's roots from Victorian times. An ideal place to catch up over looking big Ben and the houses of parliament.
n. c.
Great pub with the division bell ! Nice and clean too
D. C.
Friendly staff ,loverly decor ,very clean ,refreshing 👌
J. O.
Good pub, nice choice of ales drinks and food
K. G. P.
Location, architecture and decor are all top notch. Food and service was surprisingly good. I would recommend.
T. B.
Very Busy but worth the wait, fantastic food
S.
Amazing costumer service and best food I've ever had
C.
Nice place, good food, positive experience
e. l.
Cute pub to grab a drink. Really close to the Abbey.
M. S.
Had drink after lunch, great staff
L. H. C.
A very traditional and pleasant place at the heart of London. An extraordinary location: In front of the House of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. it is an elegant discreet pub. Beautiful decor, extensive wall full of photographs, limited range of beers but great in ciders. Fish'nChips was smelling great! Excellent customer services.
P. H.
Excellent pub with very good service and a very good selection of tap and cask ales and food menu
R. C.
The place was packed when I got there. Loud with narrow passage, people kept on bumping into me. Felt like I am on a football match. Did not eat here so can't comment on food. Selection of beers was quite decent. Service occasionally nervous, for which I don't blame them, as I've seen quite a few unbearable customers during my 30 min stay. Overall impression, worth a stop if you need a refreshment, but not during the tourist rush hours considering the location.
D. S.
The service wasn't the friendliest, the food wasn't seasoned but the decor was very fitting for the vibe
A. R.
Nice place front of Big Ben. Employes are kind, the food is great
R. S.
Oldy worldy pub, quick food, lovely fresh salad with fish finger butty
D. S.
I visited the tavern twice, first time on my own, second time I took my friend there who was visiting from Germany. I must say the location cannot be better! Such a delight to have a lunch / drink in the iconic English pub right in the heart of London. Considering that this is central London, the prices are very reasonable. The tavern staff are always friendly. Highly recommend.
l. M.
I liked the place, very beautiful and thematic with several options of cold chopp, very close to the big ben, to pass the time and to talk with the friends... fair price!
R. M.
While it seems this place is in a perfect tourist trap area we found the service to be quite good, the prices to be fair and the food to be great. There were plenty of businessmen having a beer when we ate lunch!
It’s quite a convenient location and the fish and chips were good. My mom and I shared the fish and chips platte that included prawns, it was enough for us. We ordered a side of sweet potato fries which were great!!
It’s cozy and cute and great for lunch!!
8. T.
Authentic fish & chips! Not to forget about the beer too!
U. E.
Average pub, nice spot opposite Westminster. Service were quick.
N. S.
Great atmosphere, fantastic location, what more can you ask?
K. Q.
Very nice pub and super friendly service
T. C. W.
Nice traditional Tavern with lots of atmosphere. Had fish and chips for lunch. Fish was delicious with a light crispy batter. The chips were dry and tasteless, like they'd been reheated a couple of times. I'd almost finished my fish and chips by the time my friend's fish and chips arrived. I'm sure I'd go again if I was in the area because the decor is special.
K. P.
Nicely cooked food and friendly service.
K. Q.
Very nice pub and super friendly service
A. R.
Nice place front of Big Ben. Employes are kind, the food is great
J. H.
Cute pub with great fish and chips!
S. N. C.
It was a drab January morning and walking from the Abbey towards Big Ben, we wanted a place to get warm and have something hot, and this place just popped up. Situated at one of the best locations of London, this pub gets crowded very fast, …
K. H.
good seating and legroom good views of show
staff helpful
c. m.
Nice pub . There is a good selection of beers.
l. d.
Stopped off for a quick drink, staff very nice and welcoming
T. H.
Cool atmosphere and awesome fish and chips, in a great location.
G. C.
No pies available on a Sunday evening, so go early or ask before you sit down. Fish is fresh with a good portion and well-cooked. Badger Tangle Foot beer was a bit thin and a little too warm, even for British standards. Location is convenient to Westminster Abbey and Parliament. There are a few tables for the pub in the adjacent alley, but the restaurant is upstairs.
A. M.
Good place across from big Ben only thing wrong was they had no regular coke or ay brown sance food good outside seating is not the best as you are on a slope food was good service wad quick
J. H.
Cute pub with great fish and chips!
K. W.
Decent location for a quaint little pub. It is small - bear this in mind especially if drinking in the winter. It seems to get full up of parliament types due to its location and there isn't much room inside when it's busy. In the summer there is plenty of space to stand and drink outside. The bar staff are good. They are paying attention, know who to server and even across a bunch of people I was able to get my order in and pay without getting next to the bar. For this reason alone it receives 4 stars! Bar staff make or break a pub!
S. F.
Marvellois. Great food, great beer and the service was first class.
C. i.
Decent beers/cider. Traditional old pub
E. N.
Great old public house with two floors .
Across the road from Big Ben and where those pretending to know what's best for us gather and collect large sums of money for very little.
The pub is cosy and the food is fair priced and tasty. The burgers, Bangers and mash and fish and chips are all delicious and well worth a try.
We arrived in the middle of a Saturday and had stable within minutes..others waited 5 or 10 minutes at most but those were in larger parties than the 2 of us.
Great beer ..great food
Great prices...
Great location.
M. C.
Great pub good service. A**
W. A.
Nice atmosphere and interesting beers.
J. G.
Loved this place! The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is delicious (we all got fish and chips and peas) and there was not a long wait for it. I highly recommend eating here.... it's a place not to miss!
A.
Definitely a must if you're visiting Big Ben & Westminster Abbey.
St. Stephen’s Tavern is located just steps away from The Houses of Parliament, thus making it a very popular option for tourists and locals alike for dining. In fact, every time I come to London I always find the time to make it out here for some good fish and chips and a drink!
Though there are many places to get fish and chips in London, I always prefer to go to a restaurant so you can enjoy the larger chunks of cod fish that they have to provide. Plus, there are quite a few different sauces to choose from other than your standard tartar sauce, so it’s nice to have it. Here at St. Stephen’s Tavern, you’ll also get a nice, healthy serving of peas with your fish and chips!
Now don’t listen to your American friends who tell you that they only serve warm beer in Europe. The tavern has several COLD options on tap for your drinking pleasure. I can’t truthfully remember what I had to drink but I know it was a cider of some sort.
Overall, I would definitely recommend coming out here for a bite to eat since it’s rightly priced and is close to several different tourist sites you’ll want to visit anyway.
M. C.
Great beer, friendly staff and excellent food at reasonable (for London) prices. Highly recommend the fish & chips, beautifully cooked to perfection in a light and crispy beer batter, served with good chips and a generous dollop of homemade tartar sauce.
c. m.
Nice pub . There is a good selection of beers.
S. N.
Great old London pub. Nice selction of food and drink. Friendly welcoming staff.
D. L.
We were in search of something light to eat so thought we'd try this pub located opposite Parliament. The food was average though, we ordered a sharing platter with some small piece of fish, curry and chips. This is more of a drinking spot though as it's very cramped for eating. The staff were nice though and pretty efficient.
j. h.
Delightful place for dinner or drinks. The food and service are very good. This historic location is very warm and inviting. We make it a point to visit every time we’re in London.
K. J.
Nice pub. Was very busy when I went which meant that getting served was a bit of a chore but I was assured by the bar staff that it was an unusually hectic evening. Ate a sharing platter that was good and drank some fine ale. Not a pub to go out of your way to visit but certainly not one to be avoided either.
D. G.
Visited here often over the years - it's a great place to go if you like ales, larger or decently cooked food. Prices expensive but reasonable for Westminster District, never had an issue with the ales during visits.
The food available is standard pub fair - think pies and classic fish and chip dishes, again expensive but good quality. Would recommend eating either off peak or later in the evening as the pub can get busy after work times.
If you want to enjoy a drink outside you can, a large space is available, even if you get views of parked vans / bin emptying occasionally (to the pubs credit they make an effort with the flower boxes /outside ambiance
The staff are efficient, professional and always friendly whenever possible during busy service.
The other reason they lose a star is the state of the toilets which are well maintained but could do with more checks / cleaning and repairs kept more up to date.
Despite the above issue, Would recommend a visit.
M. T.
Location. Location and location. Across from Big Ben, near a tube stop and a short walk from either the Thames or Westminster Abby. So don't be an idiot and expect this place to be empty or not touristy. However, it is surprising how nice it is and, for me, how quickly we were seated and served. Granted I had adjusted my expectations and got a beer at the bar while waiting, but it was still way better than I thought it would be.
G. D.
Bit pricey but could not fault the staff
D. G.
Nice little pub directly opposite Parliament. Get MP's and journos in daily. Still has a working division bell calling MP's back to vote.
P. P.
What a view, and a nice pint served here too.
z. l.
Charming PUB... We enjoyed our time there.
W. D.
A Pub like you always wanted to visit. Great beer, great atmosphere, quick service. Fish a bit greasy but very tasty. A warm respite from the biting chill.
H.
Warm environment, good beer and excellent fish & chips..
T. H.
Great place to recover after long trip at London city center.
Going there was a great decision to take. I just walk in with my friend and ordered classic fish and chips with beer. Dish was delicious and made my hunger go away.
Afterwards we spend there some time taking over the beers.
Interior is like a old style English pub.
F. N. A.
Food was good as well as atmosphere
P. I.
This pub is a must see (even if for a glass of water). It falls in tune with the surrounding, the old buildings and the air of mystique blowing over from Westminster. The drink selection is great, with a very up-to-date approach. The wine list is also above average. Great facilities and period pictures and adverts hung on the staircase to the bathroom make it a very interesting trip.
J. C.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and the bar staff were great
K. H.
good seating and legroom good views of show
staff helpful
M. B. (.
A great place to stay warm on a cold winter day, sipping a delicious cup of hot English tea!
M. J.
Nice and clean pub in the center of Westminster, always busy, the beer is great and well kept and the staff are always friendly. This is a traditional pub which has been visited by many prime Ministers including Baldwin and Churchill, it still has an original division bell which rings out warning MPs there is only a few more minutes left to vote. The pub is name after the tower (St Stephen's Tower) that holds the bell, referred to as Big Ben.
B. M.
We got here at 9 pm Sunday, for the restaurant. It was third full, beat classic British decoration. Order should be given to register and pay. although it's a dine-in. Fish and chips and beef lasagna. We got the order quickly. The fish was low cheap type. The chips excellent. However, the first plat was all oily food. Beef Lasagna was better , but beef wasn't good. Price average is 13 per meal. Won't come back.
S. Z.
Eating here was really nice. I had the vegetarian breakfast option and it was really good. The portions were just enough so you don’t feel bloated after. The food tasted really good and I would go here again. I can’t recall if there were more vegetarian options.
N. R.
a busy but friendly central London pub. Slap bang opposite Westminster
R. L.
My buddy and I stumbled upon this restaurant while visiting London. It's been a year already but I still remember their fish and chips was very good. If I remember correctly, my fish and chips came with curry sauce that was made with beer. Probably one of my highlights of my trip during my time in London!
R. C.
This is a pleasant, old world pub, with quite nice beer. We chose it as a convenient place to get a bite of food, but the menu in the pub lacks the interesting vegetarian options the online menu has, so we didn't eat. OK for a drink and a chat.
C. P.
Friendly staff in a beautiful, classic pub with a mini-Parliament style interior. It's right across the street from Houses of Parliament, so a great place to stop and have a drink or eat when visiting. I'm an anti-Brexit protestor, so I've frequently visited this pub, recently.
S. G.
This pub has great character as it is older and next to parliament. However, expect your dishes to come as-is and forget about asking for anything extra such as tartar sauce or ketchup. The seating is very cramped.
N. S.
It's a tourist trap. Just went with some ftiends visiting, because we were short of time and hungry. There's no service, no space, and food was lacking big time. But of course! It's a pub. Beer was fine
J. L.
Great little traditional local pub. I'm glad I stumbled across. Good atmosphere and charm. Apparently my beer taste buds don't quite align with the local selection but no worries. I was a little bummed that they shut down at 10:30 on a Sunday though.
P. Q.
The place is like a real Victorian pub, the decor and layout is great! The food is very tasty and portions are pretty large. Service is fast too.
K. P.
Nicely cooked food and friendly service.
P. B.
Good food. Fast, but very good and friendly service.
A. M.
We enjoyed a nice fish and chips with a pint.
R. P.
Very busy pub right next to Westminster Station, one of the most busiest and tourist heavy stations in London! Very difficult to get a comfortable space.
But nonetheless, great beer selection and food!
A. R.
Great place to grab a beer and fish and chips right next to Parliament and Big Ben. The food is great, obviously part of the reason for the crowds. A bit on the tourist side, but the pint prices are quite nice. Stop in and have an authentic time.
D. C.
Today, when I found this bar, I was tried and hungary. But the friendly staff gave me the amazing burger. That is the best dish in my London voyage. Thank you very much.
N. C.
This pub is in a great location right by Big Ben and Parliament. So British, exactly the experience we were looking for. We had a burger and it was delicious. You can have full service upstairs or order at the bar downstairs. #LocalGuides
N. L.
A pretty if impersonal pub opposite Parliament and a good place for spotting famous faces - if you're into UK politics. The beer is okay and the staff jolly but city centre pubs are not as welcoming as pubs in the suburbs - too many strangers, and too busy.
A. M.
Cozy little pub next to Westminster , houses of Parliament. Beer selection was ok. Had some bar snacks/ food. These are not for your health conscious people obviously. Due to location, not cheap. Interior is nice. Leather backed seating in line with Commons.
J. L.
Nice pub in the heart of Westminster right next to the Big Ben. Place is a bit compact, but generally it is nice a place to sit down for a pint to chill. Pub restaurant is upstairs, not sure what the food are like.
N. T.
Old London pub in an historic location, right opposite the Houses of Parliament . It was busy, no tables available, but didn't seem crowded. Although we only had drinks, the food (mainly fish'n'chips obviously) looked good quality. A wothwhile stop if you are visiting.
k. m.
Arrive after 9pm and was seated immediately. The lady at the door was nice and very attentive but the staff at the bar was only ok. Waitress seemed indifferent and guy behind the bar couldn't find the Sticky Toffey Pudding in the register. Plus the coffee machine was broken. So I ordered hot cocoa and that wasn't available either. So it took awhile to place the order. Giving them 3 stars because we were greeted nicely at first, seating was okay and food was decent. Nothing to call home about.
L. G.
Good choices of beer but a bit on the expensive side. Not that much room for sitting down if just having a drink as the tables are reserved for people ordering food on Saturday afternoon in one room (good for people who want food but we had wanted to sit and enjoy a quick pint). Staff were very friendly though
M. C.
i only went for lunch. As I was at Westminster and expecting everything to cost a lot of money. This was nothing like that. Lovely service, value for money, unless you get the fish cakes... I had potato skins, delightful!!!
J. R.
I like this place. It could do with a better beer selection but they do a couple of decent Badger ales. Service is fast and outside there's great view of Big Ben. As you can well imagine this is a touristy area so it's a but hectic although things quite down later in the evening. Used to drink here a lot when I worked in the area.
M. R.
For me..one of the best pub in london..for location for beer for all!
A. L.
Food was good , but a little pricey , staff was friendly and fast service was given not a good choice for wheel chair users but may be able to accommodate a wheel chair on floor 0. The bathrooms were 2 floors down from the dining area. The decor is beautiful and has many pictures of historical events and people
T. W.
Good, traditional, food in an old town feeling restaurant and pub.
H. M.
Lovely traditional bar right outside parliament. Usually (and not surprisingly) filled with political types which is why it lost a star. Drinks and service good.
V. P.
Had the best Fish and Chips with my loved one and it was raining outside. Cozy and warm environment. Loved the ambience though it was crowded ...will come back here again for sure
G. W.
Generally quite nice, as others have said, only seating if you eat, but I do usually because I'm coming after a late meeting. Seemed reasonable prices for alcohol, considering it's London and very central.
S. P.
Good place with a view of the Parlamient and close to Westminster Bridge, good beer for a relative good price and nice decoration. I sat there for a bit watching the protests of Wednesday as I needed the toilet. I did not try the food.
A. P.
Nice pub right across the parliament for a quick drink
S. A.
Great pub and service in the heart of Westminster
i. w.
Vert good pub. Cashless though
d. m.
Quirky pub. Sells alcohol
J. C.
Great little pub right next to the houses of parliament and Westminster station. Packed front area but opens out a little at the back. Has a bell which calls the members of parliament in to vote too. Come for the character, not the beer.
J. C. S.
A quirky pub with political history oozing out if the old seating arrangement. This is a spectacular place to enjoy a drink on a hot summers afternoon with some colleagues before heading home. It's well located next to Westminster Tube Station, has good views of Parliament, and a big outside area for standing. Inside is much cozier.
K. K.
Excellent location, 5 stars, just next to Big Ben so you can enjoy your pints with this amazing view. Small place and most of the times is full inside and of course a lot of tourists because of the location. Staff is friendly and happy.
H. M.
Very nice place to have a beer as a tourist, with reasonably priced drinks for the location it has. Where else can you have a beer with the famous Big Ben and Houses Of Parliament being only a few meters away from the window. Make sure you get a window seat!!
J. L.
Traditional boozer right in the heart of Westminster, opposite Big Ben & Parliament. We had a couple of drinks here, managed to find a table which is a rarity as it is quite small inside. At peak times, it is very crowded.
J. S.
Excellent! Simple as that. Service, brilliant.
P. S.
Right next to Westminster tube. Friendly staff. Very popular with tourists. Outside area with seats. Good ale selection. Central London prices. Opens at 10AM. Sells coffee and tea.
P. D.
The location for London is hard to better, smack bang outside Big Ben. Superb selection of beers served by friendly and helpful staff. Is it worth a visit? Absolutely.
J. G.
Very traditional English pub, we were only visiting London for few days and the place was exactly what we're looking for. Nice staff, good food and a sophisticated overall feeling to the place.
V. C.
Good food and not that pricy as you would expect from a pub just across the street from so many landmarks. Expect to wait a beer or two to get a table for lunch as it's very busy place.
p.
Great location, a bit on the expensive side though.
S. K.
Cool pub with old school businessmen drinking crowd. A little surley. You have to go to the bar to order you're food & drinks. Takes a while & the fish & chips were no good.
H. S.
Good atmosphere, good hospitality, if you are near should check them out.
l. d.
Stopped off for a quick drink, staff very nice and welcoming
J. (.
Curiously, not always overcrowded with tourists, the occasional MP and Westminster School pupils (I remember 45 years ago the risk was there might be a master in there; the police from the old Cannon Row station were never a problem) You can often get a seat upstairs.
J. C.
Went in for a coffee late morning. Decent old school pub that made good coffee. Badger brewery linked and seemed to have a good selection of Ale and regular pub food.
J. G.
Place is really nice, so is the service. We had fish and chips and it was superb! Recommended!
B. M.
We got here at 9 pm Sunday, for the restaurant. It was third full, beat classic British decoration. Order should be given to register and pay. although it's a dine-in. Fish and chips and beef lasagna. We got the order quickly. The fish …
M. S.
Great staff and Sunday roast. Just the dining area is a tiny bit cramped, but it's still ok. I will definitely come back here!
J. B.
Tasty beers!
K. J.
Nice pub. Was very busy when I went which meant that getting served was a bit of a chore but I was assured by the bar staff that it was an unusually hectic evening. Ate a sharing platter that was good and drank some fine ale. Not a pub to go out of your way to visit but certainly not one to be avoided either.
P. D.
The location for London is hard to better, smack bang outside Big Ben. Superb selection of beers served by friendly and helpful staff. Is it worth a visit? Absolutely.
S. A.
Being in the middle of one of the busiest areas in London, this is definitely filled with travelers and tourists. That being said, it’s still a great pub. When I think of traditional English pubs, I think of places like this. Cozy, fun, and plenty of drinks. They also have great fish and chips.
K. K. R.
Stopped here for a cup of tea. Lovely interior design, looks classic, lovely details. Friendly staff. Pub is in a great location
L. D. G.
Nice looking spot for lunch where you order at the bar. Atmosphere a bit Stark though... A bunch of exhausted tourists not talking to each other.
E. U.
Really good. A lot of stairs
N. P.
Really busy public house, where you may bump into your Member of Parliament. Good range of beers on tap and the usual non alcoholic beverages too. Drop in , experience a British Pub
T.
Food was amazing! Kinda weird you have to go up to the bar and order your food. We didn't know and sat at our table for a while. The food was worthwhile.
M. J.
Cozy, super friendly atmosphere and great food and drinks! Great service from the bar staff. Clean toilet as well!
U. J. F.
Food is delicious, staff is very nice. Toilets are not the cleanest, typical pub toilets. The nice atmosphere makes up for it in my opinion
E. J.
Decent options of drink available & I also had a very nice beef burger which was probably not too bad value considering London prices.
F. K.
Busy London pub. We didn't have food only a few drinks but we got seats. Didn't stay long as we had booked a restaurant elsewhere but while we were there we had a great time. Staff great and friendly.
S. W.
Really character pub at the heart of Westminster. Very decent food and perfectly passable beer selection, with friendly service. Look out for the odd MP popping in for a pint.
J. B.
Interesting pub inside; fittings appear to date from the time of building the Houses of Parliament across the road; so plenty of character. Packed with people. Beer ok, but not a stunning selection.
K. K. R.
Stopped here for a cup of tea. Lovely interior design, looks classic, lovely details. Friendly staff. Pub is in a great location
D. M.
Very busy pub right next to Westminster underground station. Good range of drinks at London prices, also sell food but not had any although plenty of people eat here
M. D.
Really good pub and great customer service
r. e.
Amazing and traditional place for a beer and appetizers in the first floor. And the very famous fish and chips on the second floor. Looks like you're in London back in 1920..
J. W.
Went in for dinner, waitress was abrupt, unhelpful and did not even know the range of food and drink they serve. Aside this the food was tasty well cooked and served promptly.Would not use again.
G. K.
Vibrant place with afternoon sprinkle of MPs and tourists. Staff was quick and attentive. Place cozy and warm. Though the musty and damp smell from some thing inside took a few shots to dwindle away.
J. H.
Very good service, good food, good beer, and good people
M. S.
Great staff and Sunday roast. Just the dining area is a tiny bit cramped, but it's still ok. I will definitely come back here!
A. S.
Really taste fish and chips. Cold beer
J. B.
This is a nice spot for a pint and a bite after visiting Westminster attractions such as Parliament, Big Ben or Westminster Abbey. We had Caesar salads, chicken goujons, and chili crab and fish cakes.
P. K.
We visit this pub every time when in London. Great location, good traditional pub food. Quick and friendly service.
M. P. A. F.
Great fish and chips. Nice location and cozy. Staff is not very nice until you sit down, after that they are very attentive and efficient.
R. T.
Having recently reopened it was very quiet when I was there at one o'clock on a Monday.
A. D.
Food is not bad, but price is high plus that place is very crowded. However, it's a good resting stop in Westminster. The only complaint I have is the cleaness of the toilets.
K. B.
Best Sheppard's pie I've ever had! Had to go back for a second time to have another delicious pie
A. H.
Food was good, sat in a cozy upstairs table. Staff was quick and efficient. They did mess up one of our orders but offered to fix it immediately.
J. J. S.
Surprisingly nice pub given the touristy location. Cosy atmosphere, mixture of tourists and whitehall types. Had a burger and chips, not the best I've ever had but pretty decent.
G. P.
Good pub in a very centric place. Recommended if you're looking for a British-like experience. The furniture and general decoration of the pub is very British.
C.
Friendly staff. The fursty ferret(ale) was quite pleasant.
F. W.
Fine pub, we went on a Sunday and there wasn’t any music playing so no atmosphere. The food was overpriced due to being in such a touristy area. Beers were good
M. F. D.
A fantastic place to spend some moments eating and drinking. A pleasant atmosphere with a incomparable customer service team.
It's really worth.
A. C.
No place to sit unless you are eating. Staff not overly helpful. Excellent location though and you can stand outside with your pint taking in the view.
K.
Cozy and friendly tavern adjacent to Westminster Bridge, with a simple food menu and good mix of their own and mega-brewery beers on tap.
R. P.
This place is really cool. Try to get there before the work crowd gets out to get a good seat and enjoy the drinks and apps. The bar staff is awesome.
D. D.
Excellent location serving what appears to be good pub food with friendly staff in attendance -- bit of a language barrier though.
This is London after all and although pub was good drinks are expensive
E. E.
Great food, friendly service, good price :)
M. T.
Very good service and staff. Fast waiting time for the food, which was really nice btw (i had fish and chips for 10£). the chips were unsalted but they served a sauce to compensate.
viw to the big ben also. Good location. Highly recommended
J. G.
Place is really nice, so is the service. We had fish and chips and it was superb! Recommended!
S. K.
I really really love this restaurant !!
Especially, Fish & Chips and Thai Red Chicken Curry .
For 5 days in London, I had a dinner here for 3 days.
I'd like to recommend Fish & Chips of this restaurant to you guys and my friends :)
J. H.
Much better than I thought - the location led me to believe it would be just overrun with tourists, but actually this is a fairly decent Hall and Woodhouse pub nonetheless. If you're particularly into H&W pubs then a walk up Whitehall to the Ship and Shovell will be greatly rewarded.
P. G.
I had Morning breakfast at this place. Small place but good service. It could be little bit expensive. Easy to get there for tourist. Many attractions are close to it like, Big Ben, London eye, parliament.....
M. A.
Historical old London pub. Great service.
A. H.
Food was excellent, waitress was great, value was as good as it gets! I had the steak pie, second to none! I dont remember what the rest of our party had but we all left suffed! Thank you!!!!
T. K.
Tasty pies, good beer and nice curry - a quintessential British pub... however we did not run into any members of parliament during our visit!
D. F.
It was a great time for me in here. I have enjoyed myself a lot. Their collection is really very good. Highly recommended for others! Cheers!
F. P.
Pub is OK. A lot of tourists so mostly you can't get seated. Stuff could be a bit friendlier. #probeergourmet
A. P.
This is a small pin opposite big Ben. It's got an old fashioned charm about it and is politically themed. Good Badger beer and looked like a very popular place to eat.
J. B.
Classical looking London pub in the heart of Westminster. Great views of At Stephen's tower, aka Big Ben. Gets quite crowded as it's small and in a sought after locaton but worth a visit.
G.
Some of the staff are unprofessional and rude making it a very awkward experience while other staff try to make up for it. Food was bad anyway and I'd say this a good pit stop for a quick pint with good views of big Ben but that's about it.
E. M.
It was alright. No one came to ask us if we wanted the bill so we sat there for much too long. Ordered fish and chips...twas OK.
D. R.
First place we went when we got here Great food I thought was expensive staff were friendly the pint which I had the glass was not clean very busy and cramped got feeling as soon as you were finished they wanted you out gave three stars as food was beautiful
A. S.
Nice enough if you want to get the vibe of a quiet English pub in the busiest city in the UK.
S. G.
This pub has great character as it is older and next to parliament. However, expect your dishes to come as-is and forget about asking for anything extra such as tartar sauce or ketchup. The seating is very cramped.
R. S.
Tongueing for a cold beer, they have a great meals, clean and clean toilets just a staircase away. All good loved it
A. R.
Great place to grab a beer and fish and chips right next to Parliament and Big Ben. The food is great, obviously part of the reason for the crowds. A bit on the tourist side, but the pint prices are quite nice. Stop in and have an authentic time.
D. H.
Good drinks, good food, fair prices.
J. L.
Nice pub in the heart of Westminster right next to the Big Ben. Place is a bit compact, but generally it is nice a place to sit down for a pint to chill. Pub restaurant is upstairs, not sure what the food are like.
A. H.
Right opposite the Houses of Parliament. Been past this place a million times but only just visited. A lovely, traditional pub with a mixture of tourists and Londoners. Worth a visit.
P. 2.
Fine old pub with great beers & gin 'n tonics
N. L.
A pretty if impersonal pub opposite Parliament and a good place for spotting famous faces - if you're into UK politics. The beer is okay and the staff jolly but city centre pubs are not as welcoming as pubs in the suburbs - too many strangers, and too busy.
M. G.
One of the Best fish and chips on London.
T. P.
Great pub in the evening, once the tourist hoards have left. Let down a bit by staff having a tendency to be a bit to eager to shut before closing time.
M. B.
We had a lovely fish and chips, bangers and mash, along with some pale ales. Great atmosphere, nice place to meet.
H. B.
Nice atmosphere, food was decent. Tip for Americans, order at the bar and they will deliver to your table.
M. L.
A nice place with history and a view (right in front of the Big Ben and Houses of parliament) fast service. I would recommend to try their crafted beers
T. P.
Nice small pub really good food only thing is when you finish your meal and your still drinking they slap a reserved sign on the table in other words get up and leave makes you get up and go when you probably would've stayed and spent a bit more
C. G.
St Stephen's Tavern is one of my favourite places in town. The location indeed is perfect, but it is not only that. I really enjoy the behaviour of the personnel and the atmosphere. Great!
B.
Very pricy full of flash gits but very nice decor in a lovely london building by big ben. They make a great coffee.
P. N.
Fantastic building. Good selection of beer.
A. H.
Right opposite the Houses of Parliament. Been past this place a million times but only just visited. A lovely, traditional pub with a mixture of tourists and Londoners. Worth a visit.
H. L.
Great food, but the service isn't organised. We had to wait 10 minutes before they came to take order. But the food made it okay.
B. E.
Good food, great atmosphere. Excellent first London pub experience and its close to westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliment.
T. R.
Great fish n chips in a very nice Pub and friendly Stuff. Everytime again
V. C.
Friendly cosy haven in the middle of London near Westminster Bridge. This heritage pub is nearly 150 years old and was frequented by Churchill and other politicians.
D. O.
I loved the pie! Expect a fairly crowded place. The location makes it very popular for tourists..nice Ale too..
T. B. G.
Always stop here when in the area.
B. H.
Nice atmosphere with a small dining area upstairs. Food was good with dedicated dining staff. Located right next to Westminster Station.
S. W.
A good friendly place decent food and just in case you have forgotten to vote the Commons division bell rings here !
M. P.
An ok pub. Very friendly and pleasant environment. I would recommend it as a place to go for a quiet drink and to socialise generally
o. H.
Thear was a lack of space a 20 minute wait till the table and once finally seated thear was no place to put coats or umbrellas .
Leaving that aside the food was tremendous .
E. S.
We had to wait very long to get a table but that was no problem for us ... the food was very good and it was not too expensive...
E. T.
Awesome location, good wine.
N. T.
Other than the location and the pub ambience, there is little to go for this place. It is pricey. The fare is average. The service is average. There are better pubs.
C. P.
Very quirky pub in a useful location but due tonew staff being trained tables weren't cleared away or cleaned but due to the cost of a drink in there it was disappointing.
J. W.
Great beer, full of tourists, generally always very busy but a nice, characterful pub
V. D.
The pub it is all right, however, we stopped for a cheeky one and after they served the drinks we were told they were only accepting cash. Thankfully one of us had some...
M. P.
Nice pub with a lovely interior, food was good, but be aware that the wait for a table can be a while, we waited for 30 minutes
N. T.
Loved it. Went twice during our stay for several hours a time. Great British pub with friendly staff and nice food at a decent price
S. T. (.
Nice fish and chips, and some good pints. Our friends visiting from Shenzhen loved it.
A. K.
Better than could be expected beers with large number of tourists. But a pretty place for a quick pint.
P. A.
Lovely but always busy Badger Ale pub, very close to Big Ben. Very ornate inside with fantastic lighting. Always visit when in London.
S. C.
Good beers selection.
S.
Always a bit too busy for me when I go but that is good for their business. Nice staff decent beer.
M. G.
It was very helpful and friendly being visitors to London. We ordered beers an soft drinks which went down very well.
G. A.
Nice cosy pub in a great location. Very small and I could imagine it getting quite busy. Coffee was nice.
P. Z.
Great little pub inside the Parliamentary Building, also serving food. Got division bells installed and you can watch BBC Parliament.
M. I.
Rally tasty fish and chips. Prices are affordable, given the full british experience at the back of Big Ben.
B. K.
Food and drink very good
R. O.
Great service, staff are very helpful and got me a table during very busy time, and food was good . Tip: ask the bar staff to reserve a table .
A. K.
Taverns are for drink stay out of them for meals. I know this but did it anyway... as a tavern goes it was a nice place
J.
Nice pub, served quickly, wasn't too busy, good enough outdoor space
C. E.
Lovely traditional English pub
A. C. M.
Good pub, but quite small, often very very busy and suffers from having people bar blocking.
S. H.
A little bit overcrowded because of the afterwork pint. But nice atmosphere and you can always see politician with a beer.
D. C.
Very olde worlde kind of pub. Small rooms and high ceilings type. Friendly staff and the meals look nice.
C. C.
Surprisingly not busy. Was able to score a table and seats for 5 of us. Quick service.
G. S.
dine like the local do ... excellent drinks and one of the largest fish & chips portion I have ever seen ...
A. M.
Nice pub just opposite the Westminster Palace. Good place to catch up with some friends and to have a pint of beer.
B.
Good pub, good selection of beer, reasonably priced but not enough outside seating
J. D.
It was jammed when we went (lunch). Whole experience was a little awkward but ok...we had deep fried food. Taste was as expected.
A. M.
Very good food at reasonable prices (12-15£ for big portions). Can recommend the steak pie.
D. A.
Love this pub! I'm not from London but always like to pop in and have a pint and look at the fabulous palace of Westminster!
A. P.
Excellent pub. Well worth a visit for a few pints. Lots of history. Friendly staff.

A. W.
Awesome fish & chips!!
S. H.
Busy pub, feels quite cramped but service and drinks were fine.
R. F.
Olde world recreated very well here. Located on the approach to Waterloo bridge and opposite Parliament.. Friendly staff,, was with someone in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating.
O. S.
Close to the Parliament, food was good, portions fairly generous. Price acceptable for London
A.
I like the location-super convenient. I also like the buzzing atmosphere. However, the staff are a little strange and the music...oh wait, there is no music...
A. S.
Nice enough if you want to get the vibe of a quiet English pub in the busiest city in the UK.
Z. R.
Good pub, good selection of beers, but a bit touristy
I. N.
Good pub, but not very wide choice of beer( excelent location and beautiful)
L. D.
Ultimately beautiful pub! I had the best fish and chips and a pint of amber ale to go along with it!
L. O.
Very old and authentic. Nice place for fish and chips and a fruity cider after visiting the Abbey.
A. Z.
Very tasty burgers and quite good fish and chips. Service is reasonable.
A. W.
If you are in the area don’t pass up this place for the BEST fish & chips with great, friendly service.

Great pub with excellent food. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
C. C.
English pub in front of the big ben, in the wonderful area of westmister .
excellent apple cider, well-kept environment, hearty friendly
O. P.
Great armosphere pub! Very tasty spagetti with seafood (baby shrimps).
R. R.
Went in to get out of the rain. Hot overcharged for drinks but staff quickly corrected this. Didn't eat here but it was very popular for food.
r. v.
Before and after, drinking London Pilsner!
P. T.
Good location, good service, worst breakfast I have ever had. Dry, small and expensive
f.
Central space for meeting friends. Lovely times
M. A. (.
Amazing decoration, but as a bar it could be better. It's really well located, so it can be an option when you have none.
I. D.
Great and cozy place. The meal was nice. I recommend it for the typical British atmosphere.
K. k.
Friendly staff, food was nice. However not much of a dessert menu
D.
Okay food, but burger was horrible everything else was great exept fries were tasteless. Service was fast and good.
G. B.
Full of tourists trying to get the 'authentic' experience. Some good beers. Not quiet.
J.
Handy after working late. Badger ales are generally good. Ability to stand outside is a bonus as it always seems cramped inside.
L. W.
The food was OK, but the location is awesome. Great view off Big Ben and not to far from multiple tourist attractions in downtown.
S. K.
Bit of a cramped pub and small tables for good but the food was reasonably priced and tasty
K. B.
Lovely pub handy for the Houses of Parliament Hoki and chips very good maybe a little pricey for some pleasenf staff
D. K.
Popular pub near Westminster and Parliament serving reasonable food at London prices.
K. P.
Great food, lovely venue but a bit on the pricey side.
C. B. F.
Good beer. Good location.
T. M.
Interesting pub, lots of MP's drink in there, you can watch them all scurry away to vote when they ring the division bell.
L. W.
Very good food
K. H. L.
They allowed me 2 use the toilet even though I was not paying customer. Sat down after and it was a great place
C.
Food was ok, but felt way too crowded to be really enjoyable.
T. W.
Great pub, great beer. Very tasty food. Moderate prizes.
I. M.
If you're there at the right time you may hear them ringing the bell to get the politicians to finish their pints and head back to Parliament.
W. H.
Great little pub. Right under Big Ben. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
I. F.
Very good
