Reviews of The Albert Arms
E. H.
Came here especially for Sunday Roast by chance since another place had run out of their roasts and was pleasantly surprised! Absolutely delicious food (especially the roast potatoes!).
The service is also great, friendly and efficient, Chiara and Mia were both really nice! I wanted to especially thank Chiara for squeezing us in even though you seemed pretty fully booked! We appreciate it!
I'd definitely recommend this place for a Sunday roast to anyone. If you're thinking about it, it's definitely worth trying you, won't regret it!

🚇 Elephant & Castle
🍺 £5.60 Estrella
❤️ I visited The Albert Arms with a few of the lads as part a crawl around Lambeth North Tube but Elephant & Castle tube is closer if your traveling directly here. This is an independent pub whose mission statement is to be a welcoming place for the local community and offering excellent food, beers and service. So how did The Albert Arms stack up.
.
We sat in the bar at the front which was snug and comfortable, one of the staff who was polite came over took our order. There was a good choice of beers, I had an Estrella which was good and not overly priced. The decor is traditional with an eclectic touch here and there, the walls have several different album covers dotted around and some amazing Gorillaz artwork. There is another bar at the back with a fireplace which is always a nice to have in the colder months. We didn’t eat here but I did check out the menu and the food looks good and also on price point, the great reviews of the Sunday roasts says a lot.
.
The Albert Arms delivers what it sets out to deliver, which is difficult to do as getting the pub conundrum right can be a tough one to crack but if your hearts in the right place and your passionate about what you do, the right things happen. A nice visit was had here, I must get myself booked in for a Sunday roast.

I was trying to find somewhere in the Waterloo area for my birthday as I had friends coming from different parts of town. I booked a table for 8 a week before and Sam was really responsive during the week before as the original number was 11. We spent about 3 hours in the pub and everybody ate. I had the duck and I was very impressed - beautifully done and all of my friends were also really pleased with their meals. Selection of beer was good as was the general vibe of the place, nice laid-back gastropub with good service which was exactly the vibe I wanted. The only surprise was that they weren't busier - it was about half full when I would have expected it to be packed on a Saturday night. Really pleased with the choice I made and thanks to the staff, particularly the guy with the glasses behind the bar who was very attentive. Would highly recommend a visit if in the area.
B. S.
Great little pub, we had a nice time here - food was tasty and staff were accommodating. Nice toilet, large bar with some on street seating
S. H.
Fantastic food with totally great service. Lovely pub and a really relaxed Sunday vibe. Just the right mix of buzzy but still able to hold a conversation thanks to it being several smaller spaces rather than one huge room.
A. B.
Relaxed vibe, v impressed by the food and service. Great wine selection too. Glad to know about another great place locally.
c. l.
Great atmosphere. Delicious roast, literally upper class. Little bit over priced but great.
Definitely suggested.
A. M.
You just feel welcomed! Good selection of beer, great atmosphere, and especially doggos are allowed with their well behaved hoomans. Kuddos to you, Albert Arms pub!
M. W.
Lovely pub with open fires and good beer. Didn't rate the French pinot noir unfortunately which is the most expensive on the wine list. Should"ve sent it back.
E. K.
Sunday roast proved!!! Very friendly and cozy place. Food is good with some home style flavours. The chocolate dessert wouldn't pass the "master chief" critics but is delicious anyway (should have more liquid inside - may be try a minute less baking?) Book a table for a meal, walk in for a drink. Will definitely return!
S. A.
A real gem near E&C station. Fantastic pub food, friendly service, excellent wine list, and pleasant clientele. The pub is beautiful and on a surprisingly quiet street so near the hustle and bustle. Highly recommended!
Y. C.
Nice pub with cosy atmosphere, great services, food is nice but quite standard but comes at a high price.
T.
Great food, great Service, nice crowd! hidden gem in Elephant and Castle!
C. S.
Great food, great atmosphere! Hella busy, definitely will have to book next time! Super lucky to get in on a Sunday lunch! Lovely Staff! Saved on Google maps for a return visit!!
M. T.
Lovely food. Even lovelier service. Wonderfully accommodating. Highly highly recommend.
J. B.
Great place for a 30th. Great staff , friendly but not overbearing. Good selection of drinks
S. Y. G.
Great customer service, staff are friendly and very attentive to our needs on the day. We reserved an area for 16 people and we sat outside, with coverage against the rain, our table was set up nicely ahead of time. Food is very good and wines are all spot on.
B. 9.
Best haddock and chips ever!! Good selection of beers in a typical British pub. MUST come again!!
C. S.
Two new experiences on this trip to London - firstly a ride in an electric taxi and secondly a beer in in a no-cash pub. Even packets of crisps would be bought with a swipe of your plastic.
The Albert Arms must be one of the first pubs that are cashless - a trend that will I'm sure be on the accent.
But it was also on the Cask Marquee Ale Trail and therefore needed a visit - flexible friend in hand.
Ralph, our barman on this day, needed some instant erudition regarding The Trail, but understandably, given the pubs let motif, embraced it enthusiastically when shown the Smartphone app.
The beer (the purpose of the visit) was excellent and fully justifying the Cask Marque accreditation.
P. C.
I think the status of "permanently closed" is exaggerated. There was a fire on Good Friday, 2017. It's now being renovated. The photo here was taken on 31 May 2017 and it looks like it's coming along nicely. Less than a year prior to the fire it had been renovated and re-opened as a gastropub. Very nice, but the drinks are a LOT more expensive than they used to be and it was probably the most expensive pub in the area (I'm comparing to the Elephant and Castle, the Flowers in the Forest, the Ship and the Prince of Wales).
P. M.
Great tasting food - had Sunday roast with giant Yorkshire puddings - good veggie choices & staff were super friendly - clean facilities - you can see they are putting a different spin on the pub game in a good way - we will be back 😊
J. H.
Really yummy, delicious Sunday Roast plus clam pasta was excellent. Lovely service as ever. Heartily recommend !
A. H.
It's a very cosy place, has seating outside and in. Serves a solid selection of drinks and an interesting food menu
S. S.
Cosy and beautifully renovated pub with some nice street art prints on the walls. Staff were really friendly and accommodating the times we've visited with our dog to have lunch.
P. C.
We've been here a few times for dinner and drinks, and have been blown away every time! The food is phenomenal; freshly made with great care, and full of flavour. The menu changes regularly and is always full of inventive options. I'm a vegetarian and really appreciate there being multiple options for me!
We tried their Sunday roast to, and it's everything you could ask for. Lashings of gravy, perfectly cooked veg, and a yorkshire pudding the size of your face!
The drink selection is great; a good variety of beers on draught, and bottled. We aren't wine drinkers, but if we were we know we'd love the menu :) they also offer cocktails.
The interior is really cool! Lots of art from various bands / musicians. Naturally the music played is really good too! And at a very comfortable volume (too often you have to shout over music in a pub!) I'd love to get hold of the playlist :)
Finally, the staff are incredibly, genuinely friendly and the service is perfect; attentive without being overbearing :)
Really cannot fault the place. We look forward to visiting again!
S. M.
Lovely pub, with a decent beer selection, nice friendly staff and a good looking food menu although I didn't eat so can't comment further on that. I do know folks who have eaten there regularly and always enjoy.
A. I.
Sensational boozer, wonderful staff, great beers, food etc. These guys get how to run a great pub and are a truly enterprising bunch. Well done to Sam and the team
V. P.
Great service, great gastroPub. Good pricing.
Excellent salad with beetroot kick!
W. F.
Not a huge choice of beer but the food was good. Quiet inside. Busy outside. Staff friendly.
S. D.
What you want a neighborhood pub to be. Lovely decorations and a great soundtrack, friendly staff. Good selections of beers and ciders on tap and by the bottle; extensive wine list by the glass - more than 20 options! And the food is consistently excellent. The Fish & Chips and Burger are a family favorite and the Sunday Roast options are superb (even the veg option - it's so good my carnivore husband even orders it). So glad the pub is reopened after their Easter fire - the Albert Arms is back and better than ever.
D. S.
Absolutely top place for a beer in the sun, a bottle of wine, a sharing platter in the garden, or a big meal with friends outside.
Lovely place to have as a local with perhaps some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered in a pub. You will struggle not to strike up a conversation.
The roasts on a Sunday are well worth going out of your way for.
A. Y.
Great pub in Elephant and Castle. This pub is popular with the staff and students at London South Bank University and is a great place to enjoy a pint with friends after a lecture. The staff are always friendly and cheerful, and the decor is not too ostentatious. It can sometimes get a bit busy, but the service is still relatively quick, even when the bar is packed. The beer garden in the back is comfortable and inviting, perfect for a late spring or summer pint. If you find yourself in the area, you should stop in and have a drink.
J. S.
Great food, atmosphere and service.
N. C.
Not just your basic pub food. It's extra special tasting quality food with great presentation. The staff are friendly and give great recommendations on specials and wine choices.
H. C.
Cosy drinking spot with good choice of beers and a solid menu. Friendly staff and not too busy on weeknights.
V. D.
Went here for the second time tonight. It’s a lovely gem- clean fresh interior and exterior, wonderful staff, great music, and their fish and chips are amazing served with freshly made peas (not canned). A lovely Friday eve.
S. P.
I love this place.
Feels clean and fresh, with a cosy woodburning stove and funky, interesting contemporary decor.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids are made very welcome and the pub is relaxed and comfortable enough that you don’t panic if they go for a wander around.
The food is wonderful. It offers a high end gastro menu with good veggie options. The landlord knows and loves wine so it has a really interesting wine list for a local pub. Worth booking ahead if you want to eat - especially at on Sundays - it gets busy because the roasts are impressive.
This is a great local pub: landlord and lady know the neighbours and are a fixture in the community. So grateful and lucky to have this on our doorstep.
S. H.
Great pub with a lovely outdoor seating area. Really nice cocktails menu and great food.
O. B.
Nice pint, bit pricey, but worth it. Cool decor. Word of warning; it's a card only (cashless) bar, which suits me because I like the option to be able to pay by card. Good service although it was quiet when I popped in.
J. R.
Spent the afternoon at the IWM and was hankering for a decent Sunday roast. Looked up local pubs serving food and found the Albert Arms a short walk away down a very quaint street. It was rather busy when we entered but the staff were welcoming and invited us to sit at the bar and have a drink whilst we waited for a table to become free. It was a nice cosy atmosphere inside, warm, well lit with candles around and a fire burning in the next room. We ordered the beef and lamb, which arrived in a reasonable about of time and it did no disappoint! The meat was cooked perfectly, as was the veg, and the portion sizes were generous. We chose the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was delicious. Overall, a fantastic place. Not cheap, but great value, delicious pub food in a lovely environment.
B. O.
Quintessential, immaculately presented pub with a gorgeous dining room and great bar area. Roast beef Sunday lunch was tender, tasty with superb horseradish. Vegetables cooked to perfection and show off Yorkshire’s. Treated like family by staff. Thank you.
C. S.
The food was wonderful had Sunday Roast which was very flavorful and filling. Then had Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert which was amazing! The place was clean and well decorated and the service was outstanding, friendly, helpful and quick. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
M. K.
Amazing food, cozy feels, and really cool decor. I recommend ordering a glass of house rose wine, mac n cheese, and whatever is on special! We thoroughly enjoyed their fish n chips as well.
Д. Б.
I shall be echoing what others have said before...great, friendly, neighbourhood pub with decent selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and jolly good food! It isn't the cheapest in the area, but it is worth every penny, (certainly not expensive). Indoor and outdoor seating, might be difficult for wheelchair users due to the age of the building, but comfortable and cosy year round for everyone else. The menu will vary with the seasons, but always has interesting and tasty offerings, good for Sunday roast, dinner, lunch, or a snack. A cut above other pubs in the area.
C. S.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this really lovely local pub. Great food, great staff and really a good atmosphere. Good place for a family brunch too. I don't think the food was over priced for the quality at all. We had a quality brunch for £14pp with (non alchoholoc) drinks.
F. S.
Lovely staff, amazing food and an extensive wine list clearly created by a wine lover. The menus have been well considered. There's a bottomless brunch here which I must try soon. Cool decor and the music is brill with the odd wacky song thrown in the mix.
J. S.
This place was amazing.... lovely landlord- Darren... we landed in this bar as we were waiting for our room to be ready at a nearby hotel.. pouring down with rain!!!
We were just gonna have a cheeky drink...
Staff were so friendly... we decided to have a little lunch..
So glad food was so tasty....
10 out of 10 all round... 👍👍👍👍😊

Finally reopen after the fire, and I'm pleased to see that it is back to its usual excellent standards. Beautifully decorated, cracking beer, delicious spritz and awesome food. To top it all, the old crew are still there and still going out of their way to make every visit an enjoyable one. London's best pub? Must be a contender.
J. H.
The food was excellent. The wine good and reasonably priced. It would have got 5 stars if the food hadnt taken so long to arrive. Pity.
P. M.
The sign on the door says we are a cashless bar, I've got a credit card - who hasn't? Impeccably clean, nice beer Marsden's Pedigree, wife drank Leffe. Cheap. Nicely presented. Deserves applause. Couldn't fault it. Didn't eat but meals looked inviting. Congratulations. I'd detour to go back.
L. N.
Top Sunday roast - the Yorkshires!!! Really great service and just a generally nice boozer with a great atmosphere. A well run pub that is for sure.
C. H.
Great little pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere. A little on the small side due to its location so booking is probably recommended during busier times. We arrived on a Thursday evening at around 6:30pm as we were staying in the area - there were only a couple of tables left, and you can see why. Very extensive wine list with knowledgable staff to make rcommendations and a good selection of ales too. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in London. Worth making the trip to this place for a drink and food and it's only a short Walk from Elephant tube station.
j. s.
We live in Elephant and Castle and have tried all around pubs for Sunday lunch, this is by far the best and the lemon curd merangue pudding was to die for. The beef was pink and tender, the roast potatoes were divine. The staff were polite and engaging. Couldn't fault it. Highly recommended!
A. O.
Nice little pub with the loveliest staff. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but so good it's definitely worth it. Some more variety of ales on draught would be nice, but otherwise a great place for dinner and a pint.
J. D.
Great boozer / small gastropub with an interesting menu and large wine list. I'd agree with others that it's a bit expensive for the area but it's quality does shine through.
Great bloody Mary's and weekend brunch BTW. Keep it up guys.
J. P.
As an American, I enjoyed this place. Service, food and drink was great. Both the staff and the people who come for a drink are nice and easy to talk to. If you are in the area I would recommend stoping by and grabbing a pint. It has a more laid back vibe and is has an older feel to it (not like a dive bar, but one that has been around for a while and knows who it caters to).
M. B.
Very warm atmosphere, welcoming staff and a middle ground - non offensive - draft selection. Larger, tempting, gin collection and filling food. Just can't match the food to its price tag at present, it's just good grub. A great spot but not enough to drag your friends across town for.
S. C.
Cute neighborhood spot. Great wine list. A bit pricey for food considering it's not in the most central area. Also, my beef ragu lacked flavor but the other dishes were good.
D. Q.
Lovely staff, and a really nice atmosphere. Feels cosy and quiet despite being close to such a busy area. I docked one star as it is pricey.
G.
A great south London pub. Hidden away from the mainstream it's intimate and offers great food, service and atmosphere. Decor based on the lates and greats of music with a playlist to match. One of my favs
M. W.
I've been here a couple of times with a group from the symphony orchestra I play with. Pleasant atmosphere - lots of chuckles from everybody when the double bassists try to get in with their instruments! We had a bit of a jazz jam last night after the umpteenth prompt from other punters.
The barman is efficient, friendly and knows his wines and beers. The place looks good in an old-fashioned sort of way and is a stone's throw away from both the South Bank University where we rehearse and E&C tube station. Hard to beat, really.
M. S.
My local. A warm welcome, beer and tasty food. What's not to like?
g. g.
The food was fine (the roast potatoes were the best part!) but the menu is a bit misleading. The roast dinner is supposed to come with "glazed roots" - what we both got was a quarter of a carrot and a sliver of beet root. Additionally, the vegetarian roast is *way* overpriced for what you get (the veggie roast itself was fine, a bit bland). I wouldn't return for roast dinner as a vegetarian.
L. G.
Great stylish little boozer that's conveniently located for a post work drink or 2. If you're buying make sure you've got a few quid as a small wine will set you back around £10 hence only 4 stars.
T. W.
Since it's revamp it's produced really good quality food. It's also got a great selection of wine and beer. The best pub in the Waterloo/Elephant and Castle area.
H. W.
The food was good, the service excellent, and everything went like clockwork. It’s a nice pub - with nice decor, but there aren’t many tables - with lots block reserved several hours in advance.
A. A.
We hired The Albert Arms for a party and the night couldn't have gone better. The staff were amazing. I didn't get round to eating on the night but everybody who did said it was great. I'll definitely be going back soon
E. R.
I haven't had a better Sunday roast in my life. This place is amazing!! Such cool decor and the staff are awesome. We will be back!
S. H.
Imaginative menu, good selection of wine, super friendly and efficient service.
S.
A warm and cosy spot to enjoy a good breakfast, lunch or a few drinks with friends. I've been in the evening on weekdays and on a Sunday afternoon. Both times I've had great service, a nice atmosphere and a good selection on the menu. I would come again.
A. V.
Very cozy pub. There is even a little fire place. I ate a very nice and heavy burger with french fries (called chips here) and very nice mayo. The meat was very good as were the chips.
C. B.
Wasn't majorly impressed with this rather uptight and a little bit overly fancy gastropub (read: Camden Pale £5.40, Mac & Cheese £dont ask). Stank of some sort he stench and the staff were a little bit tense. Also pretty cramped in the eating area. In its favour quite atmospheric very clean and obviously a cultured clientele.
V. A.
The food is great and good value, can't wait to go back.
L. S.
Nice and quiet pub 5 min walking from Elephant and Castle Station. Beer, wine, food...
The Albert Arms is a family run pub and is the perfect place to meet, drink and eat. The exterior is in keeping with the Victorian terrace of Gladstone Street, with leaded windows and traditional lighting.
V. S.
Nice chilled atmosphere. The place seems fairly new but it had a good crowd. I would give it 5 stars but the staff could have been more friendly.
S. O.
Lovely local pub with friendly staff, good wine and a tasty menu.
A. W.
very good food, typical London pub.
H. W.
Pristine pub close to Elephant and Castle with an excellent selection of ales and beers including Leffe. Sunday lunch looked excellent. Well worth a visit.
T. O.
Food is so so tasty! Starter, main and desert. Plus the draught beer tastes good too 👌
D. S.
Great pub, with wide beer selection, excellent food and good service. Seating easily arranged for a big group.
M. S.
Recently refurbished pub, hidden away on a residential street very close to Elephant and Castle. Good selection of beers and a revamped food menu yet to be tested.
H. H.
Lovely little pub. Relaxed and cozy. Super clean, feels kind of upscale if that's what you're going for. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the neighborhood.
R. M.
The customer service was great! Nice atmosphere fairly standard pub food. Had a nice wood burning stove for the beginning of winter
A. D.
Great spot hidden away in Lambeth
J. B.
Outstanding staff, excellent meals, well-designed interior ... A great way to spend our last few hours in London! We would highly recommend the Albert Arms!
T. V.
The Albert Arms is truly a hidden gem. Absolutely wonderful food and an amazing wine list, combined with great service. You will NOT regret going here!
L. E.
Great food, service & amazing selection of great wines. Had a great evening!! We will return, thanks very much.
E. J.
Very nice place to have food and drinks with your friends/family. Also, the staff is very helpful. Recommend
K. L.
Great food, though on the expensive side. Good drink selection, nice refurb. A favourite local for after work beers.
M. W.
Had a warm, wonderful visit here in Oct 2015. The bartender was nice as could be, made this American feel welcome, and the whiskey burger was one of these best burgers I've ever had.
K. f.
Excellent food (the toffee pudding is perfection on its own) and good selection of beer. Friendly stuff, great atmosphere.
A. B.
The Albert. This is a pub. It is not a gastro pub, not "jamies italian" or anywhere else that serves humous on a roofing tile with goujons of disappointed fish. It is just a local pub with good beer that is all the better when the Ashes are on, the sun shining, people inside and people outside chatting and laughing on a Friday evening. All is well in the Elephant and all the better for this pub (apart from England in the 1st innings of the final test).
T. P.
Great food in a lovely pub, friendly staff and fair prices.
M. W.
Exceptional service and delicious food. The roast dinner was fantastic, great portions and really well cooked and flavourful.
U. C.
Looked good.. unfortunately it appears to be closed - on Mondays?
A. W.
Nice vibe, friendly staff, food decent, only one cask ale on though
p. c.
3 real draught ales, at least 3 very decent lagers, good wine list. Nice pub shame it is not my local.
M. F. (.
This is one of the nicest gastropubs I've ever been to. We only had drinks this time, but I'm looking forward to trying the food.
D. M.
The beer is good, the food's good, the service is great and the landlord is welcoming and always up for a chat. It's a quiet, cozy haunt & a great place to while away the time with friends.
S. F.
Good wine selection, very warm and helpful staff at the bar! Will return for sure!
T. S.

Nice place, I went here on a Friday night and still managed to get a seat upstairs. To be honest I was too drunk to even check the Pokémon go situation so that probably says something good about the venue.

(Translated) Nice cozy pub, where you can eat very well. Be careful with the extra costs charged for the service. This was almost 15% of the total amount

Mooie gezellige pub, waar je erg goed kunt eten. Pas wel op met de extra in rekening gebrachte kosten voor de bediening. Dit was bijna 15 % van het totaalbedrag

(Translated) Nice pub with ditto restaurant. Unfortunately we were there on Monday evening at 9 p.m. the restaurant was already closed due to lack of customers. 2 frontier pints ordered from the otherwise not particularly friendly or pleasant girl behind the bar and waited for n uber to take us to an honest burger restaurant.
