Reviews of The Althorp
Ordered steaks which were the best part of the meal but I forgot to take a photo. The same cannot be said of the desserts. We ordered the banoffee to share but when we saw the size of it, then got the cheesecake. The banoffee wasn’t great - the bananas were few and far between and not fresh at all. The cheesecake quite possibly was the worst I’ve had in a long time. The mango sorbet was excellent though!
Nice Wandsworth Common Boozer
Great Sunday lunch and attentive service!
Food was good, but they messed up our drinks order and seemed very sleepy!
Great place to bring your dog and enjoy great food.
Good place for a quick bite to eat and a drink after strolling through the common
Delicious food and brilliant service, highly recommend
Very busy on a friday night, great atmosphere
Always a good choice. Food and service are great.
A nice friendly crowd with a mix of families, friends and couples all enjoying themselves
Very good service and a friendly atmosphere
Visiting just for a drink, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu looks great and some good value deals throughout the week.
Cosy pub with a restaurant and a snug. Also has views over the common
Delish - a yummy family lunch! Recommend
Nice friendly pub next to the common.
Great location, nice inside area.
Way to pushchair friendly toilet has few set of steps on its way...it's a challenge
Lovely pub with comfy sofas at the rear.
Great pub for a few mid-week swifties
Lovely food and friendly service
Delicious lamb shanks! Best I have had in ages
Good Sunday roast & screens for sport
Great staff, great beer, great pub!
Relaxed place with a good decor and plenty of seating.
Lovely pub with good food.
Cosy good beer and sells Camden Hells
Great place for sport, big screen at back
Great service.
Amazing place with the common just in front!
Lovely venue - burger was good
The staff was excellent. Really nice.
Great place
Great selection of beers and great location.
Speedy service with a smile. -1 star because they were not stocked with a couple drink options but otherwise very pleasant.
Great local and exceptional meals.
Good atmosphere with access to the common.
Friendly waitors and good food.
Simple, open and good atmosphere. Right next to the common.
Always brill good service
Great sticky toffee pudding 👌
Really good lighting and acoustics
Bit pretentious for where it is but good food
Nice atmosphere.
Nice and clean
Nice boozer in pleasant sur
surroundings
4 of us went there on 02/02/20. We had a table booked to watch the Rugby. Lovely pub, great crowd. To the Scottish waitress; wow! You work hard and smiled all the time. The food was okay and not expensive. Must be a great place to go after a walk on the common . Thanks ( from sunny Cornwall).
Staff could be more accommodating
Great Sunday lunch
Lovely place, nice atmosphere.
Plush.. amazing beer
Cosy place with very good service
Fish and chips were huge!
Staff are very nice
Delicious
Enjoyed the food here
Cozy and family friendly.
Had a lovely day at the Althorp. Excellent food and service was good...until the end when they had an issue with card payments: We had no cash (who does these days) so were asked to download an app. There is no signal in the pub which made this challenging and their own wifi internet did not work. Whilst we were pondering whether to walk and get money out from the cash point, we overheard bar staff saying ‘there’s a table at the back (us) who still haven’t paid, don’t let them leave.’ I feel very offended by this, we were not trying to avoid payment and think this is an unacceptable and inappropriate comment for staff to make, especially when customers are trying their utmost to pay, and the pub’s card service was not working. Disappointing.
Excellent food here
Busy bee
Decent.
Very Cossie pub
Meh- it's alright
Good enough
Cosy local pub
Great Wandsworth Local

(Translated) Excellent Pub.
A meeting place for regulars in the neighborhood, very good for having a good time.
Guinness is delicious.

Lieu de rencontre des habitués du quartier, très bien pour passer un moment convivial.
La Guinness est délicieuse.

Really nice evening at the althorp - good service from competent staff - however a technical difficultly let them down. Inability to accept payment was a problem and the staff dealt with it poorly. Staff were accusing of us not having a secondary payment option beyond card. What else do people use. Sent friends 10 mins down the road to get cash to be able to pay - with no thanks or acknowledgement from the staff. Disappointing and poorly judged from the staff. Will question visiting again.

Beautiful setting by the Common and the decor is lovely.
We booked for a bottomless brunch for a party of 15 and had a brilliant time. Staff were attentive and went above and beyond what would be expected for our table.
Lovely afternoon spent and we will be back! X
I would have given this place 5 stars for the food, ambience and service which were all excellent. However, I wasn’t made aware that there was a 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill. This in itself I don’t have to much of a problem with. However, I didn’t read the bill (my mistake) and gave the staff a £5 tip. Maybe it would have been nice of the staff to tell about the service charge? Just a thought?
I recommand this place !
The stuff are friendly and the food was delicious. I will come back again.
Thanks !
Nice little pub overlooking a beautiful green. Staff are friendly and attentive. Drinks and food were really nice. Would come back if I was in the area!
Just enjoyed the most amazing chicken caesar salad as a take-away. Hope it goes on the menu when you open fully after Covid. Thanks for working so hard to keep your customers happy
Lunchtime dropped in for vegetarian halloumi burger and chicken supreme. Both were fine, chicken was perhaps a little but tasteless but overall still a good meal.
Place wasn’t too busy and service was prompt and attentive.
Ok. Not cheap. Skanky toilets.
Great atmosphere, great food and really good staff. Ive been to the althorp several times and they have consistently high service levels.
Previous review below is obviously written with spite following not getting the seats they wanted... obviously disappointing but it doesnt follow that all other areas are bad too!!
So to counter with a non bias and actually helpful review i would say that its one of the best pubs in south London. Regulat comedy, music nights too. Totally recomended for sunday roasts too....
A popular eatery for the local although a bit pricey but better than the normal gastro pub grub. Good service all round. Seating can be a bit chaotic; highly recommend to book ahead. Will return again with the family on a weekend.
A great friendly pub, shows most sports and serves food. Dog and child friendly. Excellent and helpful staff. Looking forward to it re-opening after the Covid 19 pandemic
A bit loud inside but amazing spot to sit outside on the edge of the common in the evening. Staff are super friendly and a good selection of beers. We visit pretty regularly in summer.
Enjoyed our visit for a couple of pints.
Great English pub facing Wandsworth Common. Good ales and beers as well as the standard pub fare (fish n chips, pasta, pizza, and a decent wine list). It was just remodeled in October and feels a bit cleaner than before.
Messed up our booking but fair play, they sorted it fairly quickly and effectively. Lush atmosphere and space, and excellent food and drinks. Sunday lunch was ace. Will definitely return.
Came here for Sunday lunch.. a few notes for improvement but overall a lovely pub. Unfortunately at every point we had to ask for attention, from ordering drinks, to placing the order, to having to ask for plates to be cleared twice as we were left with them for over half and hour as well as having to ask for dessert menu. All the staff were actually really lovely but didn’t seem to have sections so every table around us appeared to have the same level of service and everyone had to grab someone’s attention to order anything. This often happens in pubs that pivot to table service, the lack of training is obvious unfortunately.
Seems to be a lack of staff organisation so I don’t think it’s the floor staffs fault as everyone seemed to be busy just not hugely effective in their busyness
Roast dinner was lovely, sticky toffee pudding was delish but not remotely hot, but it was nice enough to not be a big deal..
Nice vibe and as I said, all the staff were friendly, just needs some operational management..
Lovely, cozy pub with a wonderful view of Wandsworth Common, friendly considerate staff and a fabulous choice of food and wine. Dine here on a regular basis. Great place to take children and dogs for a relaxing Sunday lunch
Lovely update to front terrace, attentive staff and loving the new Althorpe platter while having a glass of wine watching the sun go down over Wandsworth Common. It feels like some life has been injected back into the place and new look and service has made me return in numerous occasions even though I don't live in the area. Definitely recommend a try :)
Great pub for a drink but was very disappointed with the food. Soft, soggy yorkshire pudding coupled with lukewarm meat and gravy - felt like it had been sat on a hotplate for a while.
Nice local pub with very high traffic and good variety of beers, ciders, ale, spirits and wines both white and red. Warm atmosphere, attentive staff and good management.
Great service. Very nice food. Lovely outdoor terrace and even a massive garden if you count the whole of Wandsworth Common, which they do serve drinks for.
We went for my brothers birthday and was honestly a great experience. Staff were friendly and funny and service was quick. I won't hesitate to go back. Thank you Althorp
Went for a late lunch last Saturday and was really impressed. The food was really good. I had a burger and it was one of the best pub burgers I've had. Service was fast and courteous. Will definitely be back again soon.
We had a very nice Sunday afternoon. Very good lunch; excellent lamb roast. We would particularly like to complement the lady that was doing the face painting for the children
Pleasant place for a drink. Good customer service.
Very busy when we went, ended up sitting outside which was fine (under the IR heaters). Otherwise really good. Food looked great and we put away a pint or two.
The Althorp is a small, friendly pub just outside Wandsworth Common. Used as a venue for post-run drinks and catch-up on the Clapham Chasers Monday night social run - so along with water and a pint of beer it's always a joy to enjoy chips and nachos!
Food was very good, especially the halloumi fries and pulled lamb. Nice selection of draft beers, but were out of a number of bottles when I visited.
Carefully observed covid19 rules. Staff were attentive without being overbearing. Food was wonderful. Great experience.
The Althorp is a sprawling yet cosy pub located just across the road from Wandsworth common.
What's nice about this place is it's easy nature. The building has plenty of character (apparantly it is an old Ambulance garage) and they have done well to dress it up - modern with a traditional twist.
There are a few different areas in which to dine, drink or just sit with a good book and the other patrons are generally chilled.
The staff are all very nice; they are polite and friendly without ever being overbearing.
We have enjoyed a few roasts at The Althorp and whilst they can be a little hit and miss (sometimes a little cold or a little burnt) they are generally very good and certainly worth it if you don't fancy cooking yourself and you are local.
Superb takeaway fish and chips from their fish bar. £8.95 - fair price for a whale of a fish and fluffy crunchy gigantic chips. Delicious.
Great staff come out and serve u!
Good atmosphere, nice food. Mosaic beer
Loved the style and feel for a relaxed time. Unfortunately the Sunday lunch was very disappointing, Luke warm and small portions of vegetables. I didn't enjoy it and couldn't recommend.
First two pints of Wandle were off! Onto bottled beer, burger and passionfruit sorbet! Very nice. Thank you Rishi.
Had a lovely evening watching the world go by on Wandsworth Common in this great pub. Great beers, sport on the TV and a wonderful atmosphere.
We were caught in the rain and a cheeky pub stop to wait out the downpour. Second time here, food is tops we had the sharing board and decent enough choice on tap
Cosy local pub, good selection of beers, Staff are friendly, and the pub food is better than others down the same street,
Decent pub with decent food, overcharged with a service tax w/o intimations, so that’s disappointing. Otherwise good
Lovely location. Excellent food. A bit noisey but it was Sunday Lunch. Highly recommended.
Perfect place for a drink and some food at the common. Great service. Can recommend highly.
Lovely service and the best sausage and mash I've ever had with some scent choices of drinks, really like this place, just wish I loved closer!
A very lively place. Had a glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday and sat outside in the sunshine. Friendly staff.
Food was good. But alas ut was served cold. However they did give us a discount and free drinks.
Excellent customer service and the food was good too. Great atmosphere, very clean and cute gastropub
Simon and team doing a great job on drinks and food, plus mid-week specials like comedy, bands or psychics! (they already know this! ;-)
Nice staff, clean, good drinks, just a little pricey
Very friendly helpful staff and tasty food. Fun pub quiz.
The Sunday roast here is just amazing. The staff are excellent and it's a gorgeous pub any day of the week
I love that the bar is children free! When in Wandsworth you are inevitably surrounded by kids but this is a safe haven!
Fantastic location, spilling onto the common when the sun is out. Great food and drink too.
Cozy bar looking out on the park, good for a sunny evening pint. Staff is on point and drinks selection is perfectly decent.
Wonderful, friendly pub with good beer and great food. Outside seating looks over the common.
Nice staff, lots of space, cozy and laid back, kids friendly. Food was good and so was coffee.
Lovely local pub with a great amount of space, coped well with our large group.
Friendly staff, good prices, good food. Big pub - comfy seats.
You can take a deckchair and your drinks to Wandsworth Common and they have good free wifi.
Nice pub, good real ales. Always feels a little busy, but that's a good sign!!
Quirky Pub, very London crowd. Nice place, food vert good and a bit different to usual pub grub.
Lovely pub. Great for Christmas dinner too!
Great locals pub with a real mixed age range and good bar staff
I Love the lights 💡 I should of done a video. The Christmas Tree & the presents, such a great idea. I love the way they did it.
Great meal and good beers; recommended for a decent night out in the Clapham/Wandsworth area
Good beer, good music, and a bit older clientele than the usual 20s/30s crowd. Slow service
Perfect place, especially so nice n relaxed, erfect neighborhood pub
Great pub, great booze with fun and friendly staff
Great staff and amazing food. The perfect place for a Sunday lunch.
No children in front bar - hooray! Good beer and great local pub.
Always friendly staff, nice selection of beers. Fun quiz on a Tuesday
Our local favourite with its beautiful view on Wandsworth Common and cosy atmosphere.
Good to be out after the pandemic!!! Food not bad. I had the Longhorn steak pie and mash...guess what?? It tasted good. Drinks were expensive though so be prepared. The waiters and waitresses were friendly.
Great pub, right on the heath. Lovely hospitable staff.
Very cosy pub that does a great roast and nice drinks
Nice cosy watering hole, young crowd and lively music, played at a background level.
Good Food but it's pricey.
Service Charge on top don't like it.
Favourite local pub - steak is out of the world!
Great pub, awesome food and atmosphere!
My favourite local pub with great selection of beers on tap
Staff are very good here. Nice pub.
Good service but not sure about gestro pub description
Love it. Top place and the staff are great.
Got a takeaway which was surprisingly good.Excellent pan fried salmon with a humongous portion of crab, chilli and lemon linguine that would pass muster anywhere in the South of France, pretty good haddock and chips and salmon fish cakes (which we'd asked for as a main course thinking we'd get two of them- but only got one and fortunately only got charged for one). The salmon fish cake was the least successful being a bit too dry and having too much potato but the food was good enough to contemplate a revisit for in house dining on their nice terrace.
Lovely service and a great roast lamb. Also family friendly
Great pub. Food is really good!
Always feels like home. Delicious and consistently delivers every time.
Really nice and cozy
Friendly staff
Had a capachino ok bit pricey
Nice big shop bitween other with polish food.
A lovely environment with polite service. The fish was fabulous!
Bit cramped in some areas, and doesn't appear to have been 'done up' in a few years, but food was really good and staff really friendly 👍🏻
Very nice and cosy pub but the quality of service is terrible.
Good pub with friendly staff and a good atmosphere.
Really cute little pub. Great atmosphere and food and dog friendly too. It's in such a nice area and they've got kind and helpful staff as well. Would definitely recommend!
