Reviews of The Avalon
L. C.
Had the best evening. Seline managed to get us a table and then gave us the best service for the whole evening. The night was fun and she was amazing, suggested their old fashioned which was 10/10, and made sure we all had the best night. What a babe.

Love the layout of this venue, huge change fro when it was The George. The garden area is fantastic nothing over the top just the basics. Service and welcome was very pleasant. Seems like it can get busy so I'd recommend booking or call ahead. Meal was nice. I did enjoy my time here.
N. O.
Surprisingly got a table inside on a Friday night.
It's a nice pub with a good atmosphere but I had to deduct a star because it doesn't smell clean ( it reminds me of a dirty mop or damp cloth) so in turn that put me off the food.
The outside area is nice but usually busy unless you arrive quite early.
J. B.
Selin was the most lovely and attentive server; especially with my dog AJ. The food at the Avalon is great and a fantastic mid week treat!
G. A.
A huge pub easily reachable by transport.
I loved it style and the various selection of gin.
I don't know her name but the girl with blu hair was polite and sha was so attent costumers , more complicated instead call the other staff attention.
No full satisfied, Went there mainly for the garden which to my regret is only open in the summer and closed the rest of the year

We booked last minute on Sunday not expecting much and were overall were very pleased! The starters were delicious (get the baked camembert!), generous roast portions and friendly staff. The roast potatoes weren't great and the wine was average - stick to beer. The place had a friendly welcoming atmosphere and was very busy! Would definitely go again.
P. H.
Lively place to go. Young crown. Good food. I did have a problem with a bar staff. Didn't want to serve the old guys. Just the young ladies. Spent big money. But will visit again. The staff may had had a bad day
K. R.
Decent Sunday roast. We had pork and beef. The chorizo scotch egg was nice!
J. E.
Been going to the quiz every week for the last month and have had a wonderful time.
An easy to use booking system is great and the service inside is always very friendly.
The pizza they serve is lovely, with a special mention to the massive sharing pizza which is great fun to split between a few friends.

Good pub with a large drinks menu. Unfortunately I did not have good luck with food, sharing plates were good, but my main which was Sunday roast was not that good. I waited 1h before I asked where my food was and then I received a meal that looked good but was not hot, just a little bit warm. Friendly staff, good service. I think I got unlucky, so I will give them a second chance as a friends of mine has always had a good experience here.

Dear Marley,
Our event was very successful and I would like to thank you for the great and excellent support given by you and your team in organizing and managing our Christmas party. Everyone had such a great time and the food was amazing. Thank you for Heaven and Angel for you kindly attention.

Visited today for a roast dinner. It was absolutely delicious. Lovely selection of nicely cooked vegetables and the roast potatoes were perfect. Delicious Yorkshire pudding. Nice restaurant and will definitely visit again. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for a Sunday Roast.
A. W.
Really nice food and drink. Staff friendly and accommodating. Terrine didn't come with any toast or bread just a lump of terrine which I thought odd. Roast potatoes disappointing but everything else was very tasty and well portioned.
A. L.
Great food, very reasonable prices. The service was friendly and efficient also. There is nice seating at the back of the pub - quiet enough for a date or taking the parents for a nice meal. The pizza is surprisingly good - better than many of the alternative joints nearby and I'm definitely a fan of the cannellini & dukkah humous! I had no complaints and I will certainly be back in a hurry.
S.
Great food and wine. Definitely worth a visit. Lovely pub with outdoor area.
J. R. A.
Nice pub, very good food and service. Didn't try the food today, but I have on many occasions, and it's very nice. Have recommended it to many. Very nice staff as always.
G. L.
Pubs can be hit or miss on doing creative dishes, but The Avalon gets it right. Big portions, inventive menu, and friendly service. Try the burrata bowl and the brisket.
A. S.
I liked this pub but was at a private event so didn't get to experience the rest of it much as we were in the court yard. However atmosphere was great and definitely return for drinks with friends soon.
L. B.
Excellent place!! Staff amazing and the private Blue Room is brilliant. Highly recommend and thank you for making it special!!
J. K.
Came in for the Sunday roast. I had pork belly and two others had the beef. Both were very hearty portions and most of us couldn't finish the whole plate. Drinks were a little pricey but nothing extreme for London. I can't recommend the flat white at all, it was the only part of my meal that was disappointing.
S. J.
Always busy with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Big outdoor spaces, late licence on weekends and good for watching sports.
E. C.
Roast to end all. Hungry, late afternoon on a Sunday, in desperate need of a roast, other places had turned us away, but who came to the rescue? The place we thought would have been so full they would've turned us away in disbelief. But no, they had a table, but not only that, let us move tables when my girlfriend was too cold! Great hosting, the staff were all sound, the roast beef and pork were properly properly good. The whole menu in fact looked really decent. The beer selection is second-to-none and actually, considering the area and the fact the average salary among Balham residents is probably 40 times my life's savings, it was very good value for money! Would highly recommend. See below for roast boast.
N. L.
Great, friendly service with a good vegan options! Wasn’t a big fan of the pizza but absolutely loved the vegan chocolate salted caramel brownie with vanilla ice cream - definitely recommend that dessert!
L. S.
It was a lovely experience. The food was amazing. Atmosphere great and Alexander the waiter was brilliant and so attentive. Definitely will be going back again
T. T.
Whatever the weather this is a good place to go. Heated terrace, blankets, good food and drinks.
Has a secret garden that I still couldn't figure out when is open to go hence the 1 star off but nothing to complain really.
a. L.
Superb boozer. Great food, great beer, staff are always super helpful. Always showing the football/rugby so is super busy but the garden out the back is massive and super chilled.
p.
Good beers, nice terrace, average fish & chips
G. A. B.
I went for my birthday meal. Pleasantly surprised! The service was great. I ordered beef brisket and a pizza and both were sensational. Not pretentious and well priced. Left feeling very satisfied and would definitely go again.
B. L.
Very good pub. Shame their security decide to throw out people such as my friends who are standing in a queue completely sober just so that they can reduce capacity
F. L.
The staff were lovely, very well oiled operation and my beer was well kept and delicious. The decor misses the mark, bits of it were nice but otherwise is a bit heartless and overdone. The wine list is atrocious.
H. C.
I really liked their beer garden - it is surrounded by trees so there’s no boiling direct sunlight and it has a separate bar outside as well. It’s a shame they don’t take bookings for outdoor spaces but I will be back to try some food.
J. M.
We love this place. Going here again to celebrate my sons birthday with a family meal next Monday. Really looking forward to returning. Great food, good service and lovely retro surroundings.
L. B.
One of the few places over the past year who have managed to give amazing and quick service, always offering another drink just before your current drink is empty, fast and friendly.
A good pub to watch football, chill in the secret garden with a pizza or go for a Sunday roast.
D. J.
Great little spot with fab food. I've been now half a dozen times and introduced many a friend to this place. Be sure to check out the specials board. The portion sizes are large and don't forget to try their espresso martinis. The seating area to the front and to the side are nice to relax on a warm evening.
A. E.
Great weekly quiz (we love Arius) and great food!
a. k.
Had a great Saturday night last weekend and was pleased to see my favourite Avalon DJ back! He was great and played a good mix of music, feels wonderful to be out listening to music with other people again.
E. G.
The Avalon is my favourite pub in South West London. The staff are consistently friendly and accommodating, which always makes for an enjoyable experience. On my last visit to Avalon, the floor manager secured my friends and I a table for the England-Germany game, despite us turning up late for our booking, and despite it being the busiest and most stressful working day of the Euros so far! The floor manager was also attentive and diligent in ensuring a friendly atmosphere throughout the evening, e.g. intervening to stop punters in the courtyard smashing glasses. The bar and service staff — especially Sophie, Tom and Selin — are equally friendly and helpful. All in all a The Avalon always makes for a fun day/evening out!

Really enjoyed the visit. Great food and nice service.

Nice pub to go to can't go wrong. I have been here a few time for drinks and food. Really nice in the summer and winter th y have garden at the back. Friendly aynS welcoming staff
J. K.
Great lunch here today - excellent food with tasty vegan options and decent service.
M. R.
Was amazed by the lovely decor of this pub. Great food and drinks menu. Great staff and lovely atmosphere. Nice pint of Guinness too
P. C.
The manager and bar staff are fantastic .
So helpful and friendly .
Lovely boozer and a wonderful secret garden at the back of the pub .
If your anywhere near clapham south , pop in for a pint , i guarantee that you wont be disappointed .
The misses and myself love the place .
L. B.
First time out since lock down has eased. What a great experience. It was very busy but well organised. The red-haired girl on the door, made us feel very welcome, informed us of new procedures and found us a lovely spot in the back garden. The gent that served us outside was very pleasant. The pizza was delicious and FINALLY, after a long three months, a cold pint did not disappoint.
T. J.
Love the atmosphere andcfeel of The Avalon. Food was good and cocktails very tasty
R. B.
Nice location and atmosphere...our waiter was great. Food was fresh and delicious certainly will revisit
S. G.
Great service, great food and teally friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend 👌
K. T.
Yes , a marvelous place to take families . The design is great , I would describe the decor as quite lavish , which makes a change .
The atmosphere is quite lovely . Yes very cosy . Staff are welcoming and extreamly pleasant . 12 stars is well deserved. Go and see for yoursels you won't be disappointed.
e.
Such a lovely pub, and celine deserves a raise for her service. She was the most accommodating and friendly waitress we have ever had.
O. C.
What a lovely pub ! We went for a Sunday roast and it didn't disappoint! Great roast beef with huge Yorkshire pudding! The staff were super friendly and attentive. The sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream was delicious!
D. S.
Great pub which we held a birthday event at. The food was excellent and freshly made which can be tough for large groups. Everyone was very happy and the service was great. Their outdoor area is also very comfortable.
A good pub with good food and excellent event hosting. They were friendly and accommodating. The sticky toffee pudding is very good!
N. D.
Massive pub with 2 gardens and spaces for social distancing. Inside there huge rooms with screens for sport. Table service makes it a real pleasure. Got busy later in the evening but proper door controls and table allocation kept it safe
L. C.
I was served by a waiter named Tommy, I can say what to say that it was the best waiter who ever served me, sympathy, professionalism, all qualities that many people have not. The rest of the staff is good as well, nothing bad to say
D. d. C.
We had an amazing quail with couscous and perfectly judged sweet peppers and spicy sauce, in a Saturday crowded pub! Bravo le chef! As for the top efficient and charming manager, we were even more seduced...A happy surprise, must go back!
B. G.
50% off food for a cheeky January lunch. Thanks that was delicious and the fire was very toasty indeed
J. G.
We were here earlier this week for a pub quiz, and it’s a much bigger place than I was expecting. Cool atmosphere (pretty loud!), very friendly staff and a good buzzing vibe, especially for a Monday.
The pub quiz was great actually, much better than a whole lot of others we’ve been too. The host was a very entertaining Aussie guy, and the set up was very good. We didn’t do so well, but we’ll do better next time! The food looked good and the drinks were good too. Decent range of beers on tap, although it would always be good to see a bit more from the ever increasing wave of craft beer available!
Well worth checking out, and it’d be good to check out again for a standard pub night some time. Especially as the beer garden looks great from the pictures. Cheers!
S. S.
Lovely food amazing cocktails friendly atmosphere
L. D.
Fab place for eating, food excellent, service really good, staff very friendly, the music was good, really busy and buzzing very sociable
J. L.
staff here super nice
awesome fish n chips
A. B.
What a great pub. Ever since it was converted from the George (10-15? Years ago?) it’s been my favourite pub in London.
It covers all bases. Decent bar, restaurant out back, 3 outside areas, sport. Even spent a NYE there once.
S. B.
Nice gastropub close to Clapham South, good place for a Sunday lunch catchup with friends!
J. C.
Very tasty sunday roast and great beer garden.
D. G.
Service was friendly, just disappointed that Avalon takes £1 for a card holding fee (I assume that's what the charge is for because I wasn't notified it was gonna happen). I know that's to force charge your card if you walk out but I'm sure that's now a frowned upon practise. Also they don't do pay as you go which I would prefer, as it's what we do at our work place and means I can avoid strangers handling my card. It's a contact point and in the current climate they are handling so many cards constantly, you can't be guaranteed someone's sanitising between each handling in my opinion.
S. M.
One of my favourite pubs to go to with friends for delicious food.
Spent a lovely summer's day sat in the pub garden with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was great, and always has been, and the atmosphere was relaxed. There were large groups celebrating, smaller groups and families with young children.
There are 3 distinct areas; the pub, restaurant and garden. My choice has always been to go there for the restaurant as I'm a non drinker and I've always been happy with the food.
If you're looking for somewhere to go which doesn't feel too rowdy, I'd recommended it.
R. Z.
Nice pub, both interior and the outside garden. Good menu with selection of starter and sharers: baked Camembert in pizza dough was very good, so was the scotch egg. Pizza was nice as well, also enjoyed the mac and cheese croquets. The ‘secret garden’ closed quite early but there are nice tables to sit inside or the front garden. Would recommend.
D. E.
Nice, big pub with a few different beers on tap and a crowd pleasing menu (e.g. huge pizzas, Mac n cheese croquettes etc.)
We popped in here on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of space to sit, which is also convenient.
There's a "restauranty" area as well where I presume you can sit down for something a little more formal. We didn't explore that though, so can't comment.
M. K.
Still a great pub. Has been for several years
I. V.
Nice place with nice food. Seabass salad was amazing 5⭐
D. G.
If you can get into the secret garden, it is probably the nicest bar in South West London
K. T.

The food and service was okay, although the menu could do with a few more items and the drinks are a little on the pricey size

Really nice pub, go there often after our football games on a Saturday, lots of space, out door airier and stylishly quickie deco. Great food
A. F.
Delicious English Sunday lunch! Just note it can be rather pricey when you’re coming from another currency. So either enjoy it as a treat or earn £’s in London. I enjoyed the service too!
L. W.
Lovely to sit in the secret garden in the summer which is the best time to visit the Avalon in my opinion. You can usually always get a seat inside or outside although it does get busy at times (rugby etc). The food is reasonable but not the best.
C. J.
Nice pub with good food. Decent brisket sandwich.
R. J.
A very busy and nice pub. Plenty of staff so service was excellent. I would advice people to book if eating. Very nice garden to the front .side and rear. The latter having a bar. The only disappointing thing for me was the beer.
P. W.
Bar service unbearably slow. Bar staff just pissing about having a laugh, with lots of unhappy people waiting to be served. So slow that we left before getting served.
Edit: amended to 4 stars after good recent service. Staff very attentive in serving during Covid procedures, and where our booking expired they worked hard to find us an alternative table. Food also good.
M. H.
10/10 on the Sunday roast, food and drinks all really well priced! Team really friendly too - recommend a visit!
J. R.
Great pub. Mixture of lagers and craft beers on tap. Benches out the front. General pub with sports playing upon entry. A separated dining area down the back and a small beer garden to the right hand side. I'd recommend booking a table beforehand if you're heading there between 6-9pm during the week.
e. w.
This place is PACKED at the weekend. I went for an engagement party and while it was easy to secure a space, we had to kick people out before we could claim our reservation. The bar was decently easy to get to, and the food was good (though, part of our order was dropped). I'm not sure I'd opt to go back as the weekend crowd gets a little rowdy for my tastes.
E. G.
Great local pub with tasty food and a secret garden.
A. F.
Very strange vibe, I went there a few times a
few years ago and it was great. Then I went there last sunday with a girl I was seeing, the bar tender was incredibly cold with look of your not welcome (it was strange as I was the only non white person there, but that's never mattered before), the English girl I was with noticed that too, and also the crowd and atmosphere of people just looking at us.
As a bar it's pretty nice, but felt uncomfortable there for sure.
M. R.
Went for a drink here for the first time, based on a recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. It has a very friendly atmosphere which is sometimes rare in London, its quite large inside, has a bar area with a TV, an area with Sofas and a restaurant area at the back - smokers also have a large section outside too. We had a few drinks, reasonably priced and even got table service at no extra cost - refreshing!
c. g.
The food, the service, the people are all lovely. Some of the nicest people in South London work here - highly recommended and great value. Pitcher of pims for 20!!
C. L.
My local. Music, themed nights, Alfresco dining with outside heaters. Friendly staff with a restaurant quality menu.
Private rooms available for hire plus child & dog friendly.
You never know who you might just bump into....
J. W.
Bit like the Tardis its much bigger on the inside. Has a big garden with its own bar. Prices are inline with other gastro pubs. Mixed crowd of local millennials getting on with Sunday and people having Sunday roasts in the dining room. I liked the quick service and friendly staff,
W. A.
Lovely and lively pub. It is very close to Clapham South tube station, it is very nicely decorated, it has not one but three outside gardens to eat and drink. It also offers a separate quieter restaurant area should you want to dine away from the usual pub noise!
E. L.
Went with friends to watch love island last night. Great atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Reasonably priced menu. Can't wait to check out their secret garden at the weekend.
P. G.
We went here for a bite to eat. The food was great, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere in the pub was good. Would definitely visit again
L. B.
Pretty standard pub no great atmosphere. Charged me service charge even though I walked up to the bar to get served, thought that was very cheeky especially as we were sitting in the pub part not the restaurant. 1.25 to deliver a pizza to a table, hardly warrants a service charge
L. T.
It's a nice place with good food!
G. A.
Went for a roast dinner, very good.
Nice selection of sharers to start with. 3 for £15 is a good deal. Nut roast was very tasty. 8/10 for the roasted potatoes. 10/10 the deserts. With bottle of rosé £35 a head. Good value and good service too.
M. D.
We went back to the avalong for an anniversary and they gave us two free proseccos for our occation and gave us congratulations. Even so helpful to book the specific table i wanted where we first met. So nice. Amazing food too.
M. C.
One of my favorite pubs in the Clapham area. The pub area has a decent atmosphere and has some screens for sport. Gets lively at the weekend in the evening. The restaurant has always been decent and the beer garden at the back is a nice touch. The beer garden gets packed in the summer.
K.
Very big pub with front back and side garden. Great place to have drinks and food on a sunny day. I visited on the day of the London marathon, came for a Sunday roast and the place was packed! So the service wasn't great and my roast came out really quick but was cold. Whilst in the middle of eating the secret garden closed and everyone had to come in. People came in from the garden and congregated in the dining room which is like a grand restaurant- they were loud and raucous which spilt the atmosphere of the dining room and made having dinner an uncomfortable situation.
S. P.
Very good service, food was lovely
M. W.
Really lovely pub and the bar is dog friendly. I've been to the restaurant a few times now and always had good food. I even called up beforehand to see if they could do something vegan, as there was nothing on the menu, and they made us a delicious vegetable stack with red pepper sauce!
P. F.
An excellent pub. Quite a young crowd but not exclusivity young. People of all ages go there. They have an excellent food menu. Beers are good. The decor is really nice. A proper pub done well.
L. M.
Hosted a surprise birthday in the courtyard. The staff were amazingly helpful - just one phone call and 2 emails and the entire evening was sorted. They were incredibly accommodating and the service, food and drinks were all amazing. Thanks Kim and the whole team for pulling it off!
M. O.
Nice local pub/restaurant. Nice food. Pricey, unless there's an offer.
C. H.
Pub looks fab and we've wanted to go there for a Sunday lunch for ages.
The place was rammed and the waitresses were rushed and it showed in the service. The food was pretty average and for some reason they were playing loud dance music at Sunday lunch time.
Definitely not going back any time soon for a nice relaxed Sunday lunch with mates.
One positive was the waitress left items off the bill :)
P. J.
Real nice pub excellent service
M. R.
Nice Sunday roast, not overpriced. Some issues rectified immediately. Great Yorkshire's, nice choice of vegetables including red cabbage.
A. O. (.
Really nice, good selection of drinks , friendly staff, lots of outdoor space (check out the secret garden), great food. It's also decent for watching rugby. I recommend reserving a table if you're visiting as a group.
H. H.
The Avalon gave us a voucher for dinner and drinks as we are local residents. We'd only ever been there for drinks in the past so didn't realise the size of the dining area which is available during the week, but we were very impressed with the service and food. Always busy, great atmosphere at the weekends. It's cosy in winter and has a large beer garden both front and back for summer - ideal!
H. M.
Excellent... I mean EXCELLENT Sunday lunch! Lovely staff and good food!
M.
Food was decent. Went with a group of people, half of us ordered food at the bar, then for some reason the rest got told we had to go back to the table and wait for the waiter to turn up, so he could take our orders.....just for him to go back to the bar and put them into the system.
C.
Thought it was clean, well located and with a lovely bubbly owner. We'd never stayed in south london before but the hotel is teally handy for the tube, shops and common. We're already intending to book same hotel for same time next year.
A. C. (. C.
Overall a great pub but they seem to have relaxed social distancing measure, with shared tables and a number of groups larger than 6
S.
Food here is wonderful, the service is bang on too. Atmosphere is brilliant as there are so many people inside. There's a lovely garden at the rear (garden closes about 10pm).There are Dj's here on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm too
R. B.
We reservered a table on a Saturday and managed to seat all 13 of us on the lovely couches. Despite it being busy and peaking staff was friendly and quick. Regardless of the amount of people you could still easily keep up a conversation, would visit again in a heartbeat.
Ignore the Burger King opposite to The Avalon and just try their burgers.
A. W.
Our last visit there was a bit of a disaster for the kitchen, these things happen. Of 6 orders, 3 came out a full hour after the first 3. The staff were very apologetic, and as such offered us complimentary drinks, and no charge on the food. Aside from that visit, every other time has been ace. The back garden is large and has a bar, the front garden is tight but you are on the street.
P. D.
Great place. An upgraded old coaching house on an ancient road. Now well established with the local Clapham set. The upgraded garden section is very special and always seems a great crowd. The food and food service over the years has been very up and down. At the moment it's ok, to pretty good food; and really excellent service. Bar areas are very well served by excellent staff and surroundings are spacious, well thought through and comfortable. Good selection of ales. Excellent upgraded old Clapham watering hole.
K. R.
The quality of food, selection of drinks, atmosphere of the pub and lovely terrace make The Avalon a 'must visit' place at least once for Clapham residents. It's hard to go wrong with food there - the choices I've made have been fantastic. The selection of beers is better than most Clapham pubs too and the Bloody Mary is particularly tasty. Ultimately, the unpredictable and sometimes apathetic servers, dodgy online booking system and overall difficulty booking tables make the pub harder to recommend than it should be to others. If you're determined to go, ring the pub for a booking first but don't expect the table to be ready for you or to for anyone to recall the booking even if it's been made. That's happened a few times to me. As George Orwell wrote: 'Those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past control the future.'
This pub could be so much better.
D. D.
Pub is a social hub attracting many people from Clapham/Brixton etc. If anything, it is a bit too busy at the weekends with not enough bar staff. This results in a good vibe which you can't really enjoy as you are waiting at the bar for 20 minutes to buy a drink. Bar closes at 1am so it is good for a big evening out with friends which isn't too heavy. Needs to improve the number of staff.
N. S.
Large popular pub, serving English classics in a separate dining room to the rear. Interesting range of starters, but fairly standard main courses. Pie was great; unfortunately, the sides were just 'going through the motions'. Service quite slow and staff seemed a little disorientated.
S. P.
Always great vibes at this pub.
T. B.
Great atmosphere on the terrace and a really good Sunday roast!
C. G.
A very nice pub with friendly staff. There is outdoor seating at the front and back. They host a quiz night every Monday and even Karaoke too, so brush up on your Oasis and Bon Jovi.
K. H.
I went to The Avalon last Sunday after a friend's recommendation for a roast. It was packed as there was a birthday party going on and the staff seemed a little rushed off their feet. However, they were all very friendly and didn't rush us through our meal.
The décor is pretty interesting; half traditional pub, half Byron burger - but a bit more tasteful.
I chose the roast beef which came with a good variety of vegetables and a giant Yorkshire pudding. Yes, the Yorkshire was a bit greasy but its size more than made up for that. And the best part? The gravy. De-lic-ious.
Overall I would say good food, good atmosphere, a fine choice for a simple evening out.
V. M.
Great social distancing networking. Love it.
The steak was particularly brilliant. The ambience amazing and the service fabulous.
D. G.
If you can get into the secret garden, it is probably the nicest bar in South West London
G. T. (.
Run off the mill pub with okay food. Tables very tightly squashed together which isn't great plus very little standing room. Restaurant section is better but service is only average.
J. C. V.
Great atmosphere and the big pizza really woth the money
L. B.
The food is great here. I was really amazed by everything we ordered - the portions were super huge and everything was so beautifully presented.... The waitress was also very attentive and most importantly, not pushy.
Definitely recommend this place.
R. E.
Great Sunday Roast. Atmosphere fab. Love this place. One of the best around for the food but the Waiting staff sure could do with some training
S. m.
Great pub just by Clapham north that has an awesome pub garden for when the sun's out round the back. Great location for sports with all major events held there. The food is also to die for! Try the pizza's they are amazing!
A. G.
Really good food, made quickly and very friendly staff. Though I didn't have one, the Sunday roast looked incredible, and very big for the price!
c. k.
Nice atmosphere cosy place. Would have got 5 stars but no scotch egg whether it be in London or not is worth that much.
J. R.
Good beer. Great atmosphere to watch sport. Food very good
B. T.
Nice pub for a daytime pint, just down the road from Clapham South underground Station and opposite Burger King. It’s got a small garden out the back at the side and a few tables at the front, although these aren’t that relaxing due to the busy road.
N. W.
Great pub/restaurant with wide range of food. Hosted a friends birthday and they were more than happy to help with decorations and cake ect. Does a mean Sunday roast!
D. P.
Food looks good although I didn't try it. Drinks choice not bad, lovely garden/s and excellent customer service, the staff really helpful and friendly and genuinely helpful.
B. H.
The Avalon is a good after work hideout. There is the restaurant and the garden for those loud mouth celebratory individual. I LOVE this place. Burger to die for and signature pizzas. Love it
Y. P.
I keep coming back. Clapham South's finest
N. R.
Huge pub with amazing garden space halfway between Clapham and Balham. Decent pizza menu, reasonable selection of beer, and great whisky/whiskey shelf.
L. L.
I'm not their client type. It looked nice, the beer selection was continental and too pricey for me to enjoy fully. However, It is the one pub it that place for a stretch so that's something.
B. S.
Large and buzzing, with a good vibe and large selection of beers.
Went for late lunch and luckily got an outside table.
Loads of kids and high chairs which is perfect being a parent.
Slightly too popular as though the table service was polite it was extremely slow and dirty plates sat on table for 30 minutes.
J. P.
The staff were cordial and efficiently worked the open Avalon floor with gusto. The decor was sadly quite naff though, unfortunately opening the way for a more vanilla crowd.
B. N.
Really nice gastro pub. Shared a table in the back room while the rugby world cup was on. Great atmosphere. They have great whisky available.
E. N.
This is a great pub and just like all the other pubs around it really is quite big. We went on a weekday and so it was quiet. Nice selection of drinks as well.
M. I. V.
Team is amazing and lovely... and I love their secret garden... Thank you for your care
H. A. F.
Great cocktails, excellent staff.
If you sit at the bar,
Chris, the bartender will look after you.
A. L.
Great pub been many times, never disappoints
B. P.
Food was good though a bit pricey. Service in restaurant was excellent but poor at the bar. Bar staff not friendly at all and one in particular very poor.
L.
Great pub with a delicious food menu and good selection of cocktails, with a couple of unusual concoctions! Friendly staff and nice outdoor area, although can get very busy when the sun is out!
M. S.
Lonely pub. Good selection of beers and very good dining. Plus 3 outdoor areas. What's not to like
A. L.
Very nice looking pub. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is OK but one of our main was very salty. The rest was OK.
D. S.
Great staff! Great beer! I always drink either Otter Ale or the Timothy Taylor bitter which are both regularly on top form.
E. S.
incredible service and so friendly!! Especially our waitress Celine!!
L. D.
Excellent service delicious food
T. G.
Not on their game today: refused to serve drinks in the garden as it was against 'policy' despite the place being more-or-less empty. Burger was great except for the processed cheese slice which had mysteriously crept over the road from Burger King. Wally was great though.
B. D.
Great pub quiz. It can take a while to get served sometimes. It's a sign of the times when wanting to pay with cash gets a surprised response from the staff 😄
E. T.
Nice pub good atmosphere. Lovely fire. Had lunch 2 meals good but mine was disappointing. Didn't charge for this without quibble
A. W.
Phenomenal pub for drinks and food. Great roast on Sunday and really nice outside seating if you get there early enough
B. P.
Not a huge fan of the small plates (we got the kale one, calamari and pork cheeks), but very happy with the pizza and the service. Very quick and friendly.
M. R.
Lovely environment. Welcoming. Pleasant polite staff. Reasonable prices. Enjoyed delicious pastrami, chorizo and cheese sandwich. Would come again. Lunchtime visit
M. H.
Was okay, Very 90's-esque atmosphere. Apart from the food being a tad bit on the cold side & pretty stingey portion of chips (considering what your paying) I would say it was pretty okay and would recommend.
L. A.
This is a great local pub for both mid week drinks and weekend shenanigans. The two garden areas are great in the summer and food is really good.
R. C.
A casual yet upmarket pub that on Saturdays has a solid DJ playing classics and funky tunes. A couple of the staff can be pretentious but generally a great atmosphere with a great spirits list.
F. C.
Great place for a Sunday roast or for watching a match. Good quality food and good value. Gets busy so definitely book ahead of going for food.
P. I.
Great Roast and the Nutella Gnocchi are a must. Just don't try to cut them because they my pop on you and you end up having nutella over your beard and shirt
H. B.
Really good veggie menu, with nice pizzas especially. Plenty of space to chill, always get a seat. Outside and inside.
R. B.
A proper pub with proper good value food and great staff - in and out with two pints, a burger and fish and chips for £30. Smiling service and a real buzz for all ages.
A. H.
Good atmosphere. Reasonably quick service during popular times (Rugby etc). Standard London £5 a pint prices.
R. D.
Lovely place very pushy on the 2 hours wed have bought drinks but were rushed out after mains and 1 jug of drink between 2, its a shame.
J. A.
Beautiful garden, tasty food, friendly staff- what’s not to love ??
N. H.
Great bar, had Christmas brunch here recently and it was delish. Fix your heaters outside and you'll get the 5 stars
L. M.
Such a fun pub! Had an awesome night out, great tunes but extremely hot inside.
J. W.
Really good attentive service by all of the staff; friendly and polite. Good quality food and very nice inside and outside space. Also seems to be dog friendly.
I. V.
Nice place with nice food. Seabass salad was amazing 5⭐
G. A.
Pleasant pub. Went to watch the cricket world cup game. Food... OK. But the flow of inside and out is well done
c. k.
The restaurant is so unorganised. We have to go to the reception area to order our meals and asked for wine list.
The meal was too much fat and too salty.
E. S.
Massive beer garden out the back. Nice food as well
M. P.
This place us really awesome. The food is great and the service even greater. Had the most delicious risotto there yesterday!!! Highly recommend!
D. W.
Busy Sat night so was very loud. Food was good. We all had a good time
a. g.
Great food, and very attentive staff, got a great gin and tonic from a very passionate waiter. Looking forward to getting the bottomless brunch on a Saturday
S. M.
Really nice pub with plenty of seating inside and out.
Nice menu with plenty of options as well as very nice sharing pizza's.
T. R.
Ideal for weekday after work get togethers, Blue Room brilliant for private functions, food menu is of high standards and quality, varied drinks menu.
T. T.
Good food and atmosphere staff friendly good service. Just amazed how big the garden was. Will go back again when in the area.
A. W.
I was just here yesterday. Fantastic food and very generous portions! Plus friendly staff. Highly recommend!
C.
Friendly staff, nice food
L. K.
I thought it was really expensive for lunch.. may be they should adapt they pricing as they didn't seem to be anyone there for lunch time ..
I had a kale Caesar salad, was nice but too expensive for what it was...
a. r.
I liked this friendly pub, the food was enjoyable and the ale fine. Staff friendly and helpful.
N. J.
Great pub with a nice vibe and lovely pizzas
M. S.
A good pub to watch football in, reasonably friendly crowd - good food in the restaurant part and perfectly reasonable bar food. Not the widest selection of beers but ok
N. O.
Nice pub with good food. Only trouble is is that some of the staff have absolutely no time for the customers it seems.
N. B.
Big fan of this place for when the sports are on. Rugby or football with good beers, friendly staff and a nice pizza. Not much more you need.
S. G. G.
Very good menu with lots of choice, great lunchtime service and good seating areas.
L. C.
Cool pub in south west London. Make sure you book a table. Service not great but cool atmosphere
G. R.
Lovely pub although the steaks were a bit overdone for "rare" and a bit tough. Otherwise great pub atmosphere, will certainly try it again.
N. K.
Great both inside or outdoors. A lot of seating outside. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side but worth it. Good music too
R. B.
Really nice gastropub. Excellent, frequently rotating menu and very good value with a tastecard. Bar can get a bit crowded, especially at weekends.
A. S.
Great secret garden with an outside bar!! Nice place.
A.
Nice atmosphere, decor and table service.
D. P.
Great place ,dog friendly, the guy who served me was Amazing (Janes) tall guy cropped hair.He was friendly funny excellent service. Im looking forward to going there again.
S. S.
had a wonderful Roast dinner , friendly staff with good service
d. h.
The food was really good but the men’s toilets
I thought the first visit was just bad timing with the smell in there but to come back two weeks later and it still the same
Does management ever check it or care
K. x.
The food could be a little bit better if I'm honest. Camembert is amazing. The interior sets a standard I think :)
D. P.
Best Sunday roast ever assembled in South London. Big, tasty and worth the journey.
E.
We were a Christmas party group of 130 people! Not surprisingly service was slow but the food was really nice and excellent value for what we paid.
j. e.
best lunch in a long time
Lovely staff
Thank you
N. P.
Amazing food and I really like having a chimney burning woods in front of my table. Better spot couldn't find it.
J. W.
Great pub with good food. Gets a bit busy on the weekend with the rugby crowd and seems to be a place to bring your new babies!
P. S.
A nice pub, decent roast. Quite busy but fond memories of visiting it while I lived in Clapham.
S. H.
A fine pub with pleasant decor and good food but a bit on the pricey side... £8.50 for Eggs Benedict seems steep.
S. K.
Really nice modern and upmarket pub. Great for lunch. Good food and really friendly staff
s. b.
First night out after lockdown. If you're in the garden make sure you get one of the tables with a heater!
B. D.
Great relaxed pub if you are looking for a quiet nice place to grab a drink in the afternoon.
H. C.
Nice pub to watch the rugby. Good beer garden for the summer. Enjoyed the pub food!
V. P.
Amazing pub and the staff are lovely. The food is also extremely good.
K. M.
I was at a small event with a couple of shuffleboards. Excellent addictive fun but I don't think the pub will keep them.
R. I.
Very nice foood and the staff is very friendly and awesome!
T. O.
Very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Has a good pub quiz on Mondays
R. G.
Great pub with some really good beers but it's very pricey but always good atmosphere.

It has a great beer garden which is like a crèche for abandoned children on the weekends, but nevertheless it is nice. Food is good as well.
V. P.
Spacious pub, nice staff, beer garden @ front & back. On busy road though, but it's great
M. E.
Its ok. A bit pricey (beer is 50p/pint cheaper in Balham). Usually rammed full of Clapham tw*ts. So, if you're from Clapham you'll probably love it. If not, you're not missing anything by not coming here.
R. W.
Great local pub, friendly staff and customers. Great food, lots of outside space.
J. G.
Decent pub, seems incredibly popular and has nice rooms to rent. Food slightly expensive for the quality.

A good pub but there’s still things they could do to improve it. Closes at 10.30pm on a Sunday which is odd.
