Reviews of The Bald Faced Stag
C. P.
We have been here before for a drink and bar snacks, this time we booked for a meal. The staff are great and attentive, knowledgeable and helpful, with a smile too, you see the two guys at the bar in the picture I was allowed to take of the guys, great help and sense of humour. On being seated at the table I managed to knock and smash a wine glass all over the floor, so embarrassing 😞 I tried to pick the pieces and was told by Will the Assistant Manager to please leave it as it's ok and they will take care of it , better than cutting your hands and causing more problems ! Thanks Will and sorry about the glass.
The meal we had was the roast option, most had chicken with the trimmings ihad the trio option. Tasty and enjoyable, the only criticism is, it needed more vegetables on the plate , sorry . We did order extra sides and the broccoli with the chilli and lemon , master class 👍. Only two had desert, Bramley apple pie and custard, sticky toffee pudding with pecans and I had custard with it , delicious. Thanks to Will and he's amazing staff from the bar to the restaurant and the the kitchen , thanks Chef 👍See you soon guys 😊
P. S.
We came for a Sunday roast and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. We've had trio of roasts as well as a burger for the main. The burger was very good but chicken and pork from the trio were absolutely amazing. Much better than your usual Sunday roast. Unfortunately the piece of beef from our roast was extremely disappointing and almost inedible. It was very chewy and completely raw which normally I wouldn't mind but with this particular cut it just didn't work.
The atmosphere as well as the staff were very pleasant so all in all I'd definitely recommend this pub!

We had a delicious Sunday lunch today catching up with family before Christmas. Initially we chose The Stag for it's dog friendly bar area (although our furry friend couldn't join us in the end) but we will definitely be back regardless.
It's really lovely inside with fantastic friendly staff. The Sunday roasts were really good. I had the pork belly and the crackling on top was perfect. Good choice of beers on tap.
My son said the chicken was the best ever (he had the kids roast chicken). He wrote his own review which I've added as a photo.
We recommend the bald faced stag and will definitely be back!

Food was lovely although quite pricey (£5.50 for a scotch egg - this is the benchmark 😬) .
The staff were lovely apart from one chap who was slightly passive aggressive when he saw a table, that another waitress was fine with us moving, was moved closer to us to make some space.

Had dinner there for first time in a long while on Sat eve. Nice ambience in the rear restaurant. Staff super freindly (thanks Rowanne). We both had burgers with sweet potato fries. They were nice burgers - just perhaps a little pricey. Fries were excellent/ I think just a not massively wide menu and the prices probably lost the fifth star, but would certainly go back.

Lovely early dinner in the beautiful dining room on a Sunday evening. Unfortunately the chicken had run out for my friends but they were happy with the turkey alternative. My sea bass fillet was lovely and both the parfait starter and chocolate mousse desserts were very generous portions.

One of my locals and I used to like to come here.
But seems to really have gone downhill recently... quality has dropped and prices increased vastly. Meatless mains start at £16 and not even a tad of an effort of presenting it nicely.
Considering you are supposed to feel like you have entered a bit of a posh gastro pub (and also when you get the bill), this is certainly not the experience you have with the food!
Disappointing!

We recently had Sunday lunch for two. Even before we had sat down we were asked if we wanted bread, olives and water. As we were hungry and thirsty we said yes to all three. Whilst we didn't expect these to be complimentary, we didn't quite expect to have spent £13.50 already. £4.50 for three slices of bread and butter and the same for six olives is taking the p a bit. Roast was pleasant. Nice to be asked how we wanted the beef. Potatoes could be improved, beef a bit tough and a bit more green veg nice but it was a hearty meal and the gravy had a nice flavour. Service was also good but we won't take the starters blind next time.

Fantastic service, Alex the manager went above and beyond for me when I visited as part of a special birthday occasion. Thank you!!! Great selection of drinks too. Love the champagne pictured!

We had my aunties wake here after her funeral at nearby Islington and St Pancras Cemetery.
Louise was absolutely amazing sending though information on sharing platters and various catering options and answering all our questions.
The function room was already booked but they provided us a reserved space in the restaurant.
Bonus points for tweaking the menu for appropriate choices for family in their 70s and 80s who had travelled from near and far .. so we had salad in chicken sandwiches instead of pesto and green extra fish goujons instead of squid , good variety of hot and cold platters and sandwiches, including vegetarian options.
Clean and well organised facilities, including disabled toilet facilities and reserved parking
Table service was provided to the restaurant- really appreciated on this cold and miserable day..
Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly helpful staff on the day - all the family praised the service and hospitality -
Special thanks to manager Will, Adele and Sophie managed to keep ALL the relatives happy -highly recommended,
thank you on behalf of our family x

My wife and I have recently moved to East Finchley but have not had the opportunity to try out the Bald Faced Stag until now ! To our pleasant surprise they were running a promotion in January which included 50% off mains during the month. I opted for the Lamb Shank and my wife decided to try their chicken mushroom leak pie. All in all the food was amazing. Not what I normally expect at a pub, very high quality ! The pub is divided into a pub area and then a dining area. We sat in the dining area which was quieter and made for a lovely evening out. Great decorations and service. I would highly recommend the Bald Faced Stag to anyone.

The renovations of this place look extremely good, the place is very comfortable and is a really nice place to sit and chat with friends. The drinks aren't too pricey depending on what you get, and it's a nice pub to treat yourself at.
Which is what we thought we were doing. We need to talk about the camembert sharer. From the price (£16) and the pictures in the reviews we were expecting exactly as it was described on the menu. Camembert cooked in filo pastry, smoked garlic, truffle honey, almonds, plenty of sourdough toast.
It arrived in its original packaging, having been cooked in its little Payton Breton box, which retails for about £2.18. there was a thin drizzle of honey and a hint of garlic. No almonds in sight. No filo pastry, and I'm dubious about the truffle. Alongside it had been placed with five little pieces of toast that felt like they had been left out for far too long. Three stars for giving us a good laugh, but perhaps hide how steep the mark-up is next time.

Best pub in the area, food is high quality and the staff are always warm. Great drinks selection. Good atmosphere comfy booths (since the refurb) and good outdoor area. They also have a dining room for those that want more restaurant feel/table service. Would advise to add a few more options to the menu perhaps that are more midrange and perhaps more vegan options too.
A. O.
Lovely fish and vegan fish & chips! Quick, pleasant and polite service with excellent food costing ~£30 for both dishes. Nice pub with a dedicated large dining room.

Had a Sunday roast with family.Overall nice atmosphere and very good service.Meal was ok,roast chicken good, but felt that vegetables including roast potatoes were undercooked and not very well presented.Only complaint really.
A. A.
Love this pub. The food is absolutley amazing. The staff friendly and the seating comfortable.
It's quite buzy and noisy but I feel that it adds to the atmosphere of a good night out.
Open mic on every Thursday with live music and some very good singers.
They have a massive rear patio which is so nice during the summer times.
Also good parking facilities and a disable entrance. Also very close to the tube.

Myself and my 9yo visited the newly refurbed BFS this afternoon for Sunday lunch. We requested a table outside, and were a little disappointed to find ourselves outside of the service area meaning we had to go to the bar to order. No great shakes - service was prompt, and our drinks and food arrived in good time. The menu is short but excellent, and the food was good too, with decent portions and thoughtful - not overpowering seasonings. We went for the roast chicken and kids fish n chips, and both really enjoyed our meal.
The only black spot on an otherwise lovely afternoon was the table next to us, who decided to smoke all through our meal. During dessert, i saw the ‘man’ looking at me intently as he lit up again, so i asked politely if he would mind - perhaps - waiting until we had finished before sparking up again. “Five minutes tops” i offered. I shouldn't have bothered, not only did he ignore my request and light up anyway, but the barrage of abuse i received from him and his partner was frankly awful. They even complained to the staff who to their credit looked as bemused as i was. Unfortunately we had no choice but to leave our drinks and dessert half finished, rather than be abused by this shameless, dreadful couple.

First time I've visited since all the work was done ,the interior has been done to a high standard and has a lovely long- bar, service was quick and pleasant and would have no problem returning again
D. P. H.
First time experience and the last. Food greasy flat chicken, steak over cooked. No service from staff. Had to go to the bar whilst eating to get a drink. 12.5% service charge for NO service. £9.20 FOR CHEAP SHIRAZ WINE. Very disappointed won't ever go back. FIVE BELLS IS OUR NUMBER ONE EAST FINCHLEY EATERY PUB.

Popped in here for a birthday meal and drink with a friend. It's the only traditional style pub on this stretch of the high road, the others mostly being bars. It has a quiet, contemporary feel like a lot of pubs these days and carries it off well enough. Good selection of ales, craft beers, wines and spirits to meet all tastes. Talking of which, the food is great. Every visit has been spot on food wise! Four stars? Table service is all or nothing. On last visit staff were like the buses. Nothing then two at once! That said they are exceptionally pleasant and the orders come fast. Would easily recommend.
R. H.
Proper pub with a large selection of beers and wine, a dining area with all the pub favourites, a heated smoking area and a garden bar.
Prices are ££
Food quality is pretty good and the open kitchen is kind of cool.
R. M.
I love this Fantastic local Pub, the Camden lager and the food is great, I felt very Covid safe in the garden, the staff are very friendly & there's a lovely atmosphere for summer. Thanks to Ian Alex and the very helpful new barmen from Colindale, great service everyone. Love❤ the new style today, beautiful mulled wine and very friendly manager made me feel welcome today. Thank you
S. C.
A wonderful lunchtime menu at very reasonable prices. Relaxing with good food in the summer sun is a perfect way to start your afternoons. I would highly recommend a visit.
D. S.
Good but
They offer 30% discount on good during the week.
Only after we had left the pub did we check the bill. No discount applied
S.
Really nice for food and pretty reasonable value. Would definitely go back again.
F. W.
Had a lovely meal here for lunch. Very good, attentive staff and high quality food. Will definitely be going back.

The darling of East Finchley, Bald Faced Stag, has made an excellent transformation to reopening and accommodating social distancing. The updated menu is excellent, with no-contact ordering if you need or super-friendly staff who made a great effort to provide the same level of service despite wearing face coverings. Still such a wonderful atmosphere.
S. N.
Love it there, food good ( except that gherkin ketchup- me no likey) . Staff warm and accommodating.
L. P.
We had camembert amd sourdough plater and the best scotch eggs i had in 6 years in London, great service as always🤩
J. P.
Good food served quickly and well organised considering service for 30+ office Party. Great selection of food and allowed food to be brought in for kosher guests.
C. H.
Great service in the restaurant. Venison Ragu was very yummy. They’ve refurbished recently and it looks a lot nicer, love the vibe.
D. O.
Lovely relaxing pub. Staff really friendly. I've always felt at ease drinking here.

Delicious Sunday lunch, including good vegetarian options. Fab, friendly service from Rowanne.

Amazing Xmas Lunch! Delicious. Great place for families, toddlers and dogs. Friendly staff.
S. W.
Very good food. We had a few sharing plates, sat in the garden. Love the chairs/stools around the tree, very clever idea.... My aperol spritz was yummy too
C. R.
Rowanne is a star.. fab food, great time lovely place will be back.x

Came here yesterday evening with my friend. Was greeted immediately and seated outside which was great. We each ordered a cider using the table service option through their website, waited a while but we weren’t too fussed as it was a Saturday evening and we’ve each worked as bartenders previously as well so we were very understanding in that respect. Finally a staff member brought over 1 cider despite ordering at the same time?! We told her straight away which she seemed to have acknowledged?Maybe she was new? Just a thought... Another 20mins passed and it still didn’t show up so I went up to the bar. Unfortunately I was ignored by the 2 staff behind the bar for a good amount of time so I approached the female staff member who brought over the first cider and she told me to ask at the bar, again I was ignored so I finally just asked one staff member behind the bar, he looked at the order and apologised and went to prepare the cider, as he went away another staff member came over to ask if I was being helped, a little late now. I was very disappointed by this experience and did somewhat take it personally as I really don’t understand why I was ignored for so long and not offered help. Nevertheless the rest of the night went smoothly and it was a lovely venue with a great selection of drinks.
M. R.
Great food, lovely beer garden and a little customer car park. Service is really good too. Highly recommend a visit

Great patio! Awesome drinks and food. Suggested to by locals. Also met some cool friends on the patio.

Fantastic Pub! The food was great! My friend & I felt covid safe, the staff are friendly & there's a lovely atmosphere! Can't wait to get back!
R. S.
We came across the pub by accident when a local restaurant let us down last minute. They were brilliant. It was lunchtime and yet they kindly allowed us food off the evening menu. They were not busy and I doubt they could have done it if they were but many places won't do it even if they are empty! We had a lovely meal and the bar staff were attentive and welcoming.
We returned this year, 2021, and again we had lovely meals. They were warm and friendly but be warned, the service was slow. I have dropped a star for slow service on both occasions this year but strongly recommend if you are not in a hurry.
T. F.
Great Sunday lunch. Fantastic service from Rowanne.
W. L.
Great pub very clean friendly staff pleasant environment to residents in the area east finchley Smiles fake there reviews to get customers they invented treatment I did not need the work was poor it's a corrupt practice 144 high rd n2 9ed. I would suggest not to use as they abuse committed fraud on finchley residents not just my self. The Bald Faced Stag Pub has good staff customer service music in the evening a excellent atmosphere !
R. T.
Went for lunch Sunday afternoon. Staff were lovely, menu looked good, roast beef and dessert were great, but my burger... dear god. Branded as Turner & George Black Label, I expected a thick juicy burger, browned but maybe with a pinkish middle. Instead, I got two half-centimetre patties dry as boot leather. Thoroughly disappointed with my choice, and more so for not complaining at the the time. DO NOT order that burger.

I went to the Bald Faced Stag for the first time last year and left a 5 star review. I'm adding to it now because I wish I could give them all the stars in the world. After a good experience for dinners and snacks with friends, I decided to hold my wedding reception here which was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
For 55-60 guests:
Everyone on the BFS team, from the head chef (Jonathan) to the managers (Ian & Alex) to each and every server (I'm so sorry I didn't catch your names!) was amazing. The food was delicious and served promptly, all the guests commented positively on it. The dining space is just gorgeous, with its wood furnishings, skylight and greenery. Makes for lovely photos. The organization was handled superbly. I sent in a spreadsheet with the courses I had selected, then created a map for the tables and dropped off name cards.
Ian and his team went through the trouble of arranging everything exactly to my specifications which I appreciated so much since it was going to be a busy day and they simply took most of my worries away by being so professional.
Can't wait to be back and I'll recommend them left and right, for a quick drink, a dinner, or a massive occasion like one's wedding.

Fantastic food great service lovely place to eat
C. P.
Really nice gastro pub with decent selection of beers. Food is very good and portion sizes are decent. Staff very friendly though you can find yourself waiting a little while to get the bill or get more drinks in the main dining area but this is a minor criticism.
Food menu generally has something for everyone but can feel a little 'small' though that may be because I go there quite often! Is slightly on the expensive side but still gives good value for money. Keep an eye for the specials which are generally fantastic.
T. H.
Great food, great beer, great ambience, great staff
P. Y.
Great place for a pint and a Sunday roast.
C. G.
Great customer service and lovely atmosphere! It's changed for the better!
E. A.
Food is ok, service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was almost empty.
n. k.
We've had some very good roasts here over the last few years. This wasn't one of them. Both my Chicken and my partners pork belly were very dry. Also when I ask for extra gravy, please send me something bigger that an egg cups worth. They also seemed understaffed which wasn't helping. Just generally below par. We'll give it one more go but really needs improvement.
S. C.
Lovely venue. Great food
A. C.
Complements to the sheff as such great tasty food of what they had left on the menu, my partner & I had the same food in which one was a lot larger than the other so not dished out evenly.
The service was a nightmare, some of the staff were not great at all that I had to complain, I understand they were very busy, just need to be better with their customers.
Not great in the pub for covid either.
C. O.
Really nice pub. Has seating inside and outside and in a nice area.
E. S.
Cosiest Pub in East Finchley and a lovely garden
D. z.
Four of us went for a meal last evening. Second time I have been this month. A very pleasant room and the menu provides variety and interesting options. Last night's experience was, however, overshadowed by our waitress claiming that we had underpaid. It later appeared that the mistake was hers but the manner in which she confronted us was not initially very pleasant and lacked skills that are, in my view, essential in the service sector. Having said that it will not prevent me from returning.
K. E.
I've visited Bald Faced Stag quite a few times and have never been disappointed. It's got everything you'd want and expect from a friendly local pub and restaurant. We've had family Sunday lunches and evening meals. It was incredible. You can tell the quality of the food is second to none and the service is so friendly. Keep up the great work! :)
J.
Really enjoyed a late afternoon lunch last weekend with my two sons. Although busy the staff made sure that we were well looked after. The traditional Sunday lunch was very good and it was a nice touch to have chocolate truffles and a small gift on the table for Mother's Day. Will definitely being going back another time. Thanks to the team.
N. W.
Read a few other reviews that said they didn't enjoy the food. Can only speak for myself, but I had an excellent Sunday roast here personally, and in a group of 6 (two with special dietary requirements) no one had a bad word to say. I had to check prior to making the booking that we could be catered for due to the particular requirements within the group, and was also impressed with how well I was dealt with. Good range of beers too.
T. A.
Not a bad pub, they should get a little more staffing. If you like food, outdoor area, space, and a cheeky quiz night then this place is the way to go if you're in the area. Drinks aren't too expensive either but this isn't a place that you can comfortably get drunk in. More of a catch up kinda venue.
T. C.
Good food. Good service. A little pricey.
J. P.
Thought we would take a walk here on Sunday for lunch. Nice pub and service at the bar was fast and staff nice. We had lunch in their dining room which was okay. Service was inattentive and food okay. My other half’s roast beef was good but my burger very dry. Would come back but next time sit and eat in the bar area instead.
A. P.
Friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere, 30% off food after 5pm Monday-Wednesday
B. L.
Recently refurbished gastropub with top quality food and a good selection of beer. Has a very welcoming and well decorated beer garden. Excellent for friends catching up and even family gatherings. Food slightly too pricey - a beef Sunday roast will cost you £15+. Though the quality is very decent indeed (Beef melts in mouth etc etc). Still, very pricey.
M. B. B. L.
Absolutely fantastic pub, celebrated our birthdays with my husband and everything was great, got these amazing (very abundant) platters to share for a reasonable price, and the staff was really nice and helpful throughout the whole day. Also quite a nice place to have a weekend lunch with the family (baby friendly)
e. s.
Recently moved to the area and this was my 2nd visit. Went on a Sunday at 12,not busy first thing which was good for food, but did fill up around 4pm. Only had start bits and some deserts to share, with a few bottles but very well priced and the food I couldn't fault. Even though I did not have the roast,I shall be back as theu all looked delicious!
S. C.
Great staff. Lovely atmosphere
H. F.
Recently refurbished - has a lovely interior and feels light and airy. Good outside area for the summer and a greenhouse/conservatory which is non smoking. Great desserts and a good range of gin. However the staff let this place down - rude and abrupt on both occasions unfortunately.
S. W.
A large venue, with good character and a nice atmosphere, although there were too many dogs for my liking, and I like dogs.
The girl behind the bar had quite a poor knowledge of beers, offering an IPA when we asked for a dark beer other than Guinness. Still, we were offered tasters before we ordered
G. R.
Best pub in North London
fantastic dinner and pudding, nice interior and super welcoming staff.
N. B.
Guys, thanks for the calls over the last week for my mother's day booking. I'm sorry I didn't answer. But more sorry that you've now had to close down due to Govt. guidelines.
You're a great pub and I look forward to dining again when you reopen.
All the best getting through this.
J. S.
A bit short on staff when we went. So getting seated took a bit long.
Other than that great staff and nice place.
R. K.
I've always got along with the staff here, regardless if they're long-time members or new-hires. They are always accomodating to requests and never make you feel like you're being a pain. It is one of the few pubs where you never get that feeling of "Do I belong?".
The pub itself is beautiful and the drink taps are much better kept than other pubs in the area *cough* Old White Lion *cough*.
It may not be the best pub if you're with a large rowdy crowd as the inside has a kind of respectable feel about it, although I doubt the staff would mind if you were rowdy as they seem to handle everything well. There is a large outside area as well which can accommodate louder groups. I have never once seen any issues or disturbances in this place.
It also has a restaurant in the back where the biggest selling point for me is that they change the menu up dramatically quite often. The menu can be hit-or-miss because of this, but when it hits, it hits great.
Additional features include a heated outside area, and tons of board games.
J. C.
Decent pub, good variety of beers. Service a bit lacking, I stood at the bar for 5 minutes waiting for one barman to finish his conversation with some customers while another studiously ignored me as he stocked the fridge. G&T came as a double without being asked for (with corresponding price tag). Haven't eaten there but heard food is good.
J. K.
The coldest pint I've had in North London for a while. System is very professional with dealing with Covid-19 rules. Recommend. Book before though. I was lucky to find a table.
G. J.
Great pub good food. I got annoyed when I was standing at the bar for about 5 minutes waiting to be served. I was watching a bar person standing at the bar texting or browsing on their phone. I had to interupt them to get there attention. It's not great service if I have to wait for a staff member to finish there texting before we get served
L. M. (. D.
Great Sunday roast & great service :)
D. H.
Good beer but fairly expensive. I stopped having meals in the restaurant because I found the main courses were only luke warm on a few occasions. This was a shame as the food seemed to be good quality. However the meals are not cheap and so they need to be served at the correct temperature.
C. B.
Best pub in East Finchley! Dinner for 8 on a Sunday evening, beautifully placed outside in the Vineyard with live jazz playing indoors. Exceptionally friendly service (sounds like the rude waitress in previous reviews was promptly sacked!), very accommodating team and a very happy table of 8. Thanks too for the complimentary Prosecco which went down a treat!
A. D.
Took my family for a Christmas meal, all 15 of us. Food was excellent, lamb so tender and the fish so flavoursome, even the kids menu was well received! Service was a bit stretched, then again it was a busy night.
J.
Nice place to pop in for a pint before a showing at the Phoenix. Didn't eat, but my drinking partner had a little snack that went down well. Good sized beer garden, too.
L. S.
Very nice pub with a lovely beer garden! This place is a lot bigger than it looks outside. We had over a hundred people in there for our work summer party. They served us a buffet lunch which may not be exactly what they have on the menu normally but it was done to a very high standard and I'm sure their a la carte food will be as nice if not nicer.
O. P.
We had reservation for 13.00 but weren't served lunch until 13.55. The food was excellent, but not all seved at same time. Office Christmas lunches meant chefs were very stretched. Very cold day, awful draughts from front and rear (car park) doors. But staff were very pleasant and apologetic.
L. C.
Nice atmosphere. Staff is competent if not too friendly. Last time I was there they didn't serve cocktails, which is a shame. However, it's a nice place to have a pint and spend some time.
D. V.
Lovely modern pub for meet-ups of all kinds.
R. K.
Beer selection should have been good, but they hadn't bothered changing barrels. My burger was overcooked and fairly tasteless. My wife's courgette pasta was ok, but not great. Good atmosphere.
E. M.
A very nice pub in East Finchley. Cosy, clean, nice decor. We've had just the classics: burger and fish&chips but both delicious. We'll be back.
K. P.
My favourite pub in Finchley.
The revamp has made it even nicer.
A. P.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Incredibly for a pub they had a wonderful fairy who did craft with the kids! What a fab idea. The food was very good and we will definitely go again.
A. D.
Best pub in East Finchley. A little pricey/posh but worth it. Fish and chips where some of the best I have had. Decent burger. Ribeye though £25 was good. Friendly service, nice outdoor area. Will be returning ng regularly.
T. H.
French lady bar manager is lovely. Man manager extremely rude. Asked for a lighter for our flaming Sambuca's and was dismissed very rudely. Working in high end hotels and bars in my history, (serving Flaming Sambuca's regulary) I found him rude, so did my collegue, but maybe he was having a bad day. Other than that, the pub is lovely and people are friendly.
N. L.
Yeah, it's nice. Got to sit with friends and drink and chat. The food is not brilliant though. It'll do but, you know, it's a pub, you're not there for Michelin stars.
B. M.
OK pub, food wasn't great for price we paid. Big homely place in winter and beer garden for summer. Not particularly child friendly though

Like I mentioned yesterday I thought about writing a review for the excellent service provided by the staff. I was served by Harry, super nice, on the ball, very knowledged 😁. Afterwards, I was amazed by Isabella's resilience. The effort you put in going professionaly towards the end of the shift has been great! I actually laughed half of the time....
And thanks for the funny "Welcome to London" 🤣🤣🤣

Lunch menu was really not much of a lunch menu. I know that this is a gastro pub but the only real lunchtime things were fish and chips and burger and chips (standard). The menu didn't really seem to know what it was - veloute on the one hand and aranchini on the other; I went for the burger - it was great. The quality of the food is good the pretentiousness of the menu (at lunchtime) was poor. It was hard to make a choice - most people seemed to be going for the fish and chips.

The Cheeseburger at the Bald Faced Stag is a good sandwich to grab for lunch. While this burger does not stand out amongst the greatest in London it's got potential. A bakery bun, melted cheese, and a char-grilled patty make for a satisfying burger. However, the beef and bun were quite a bit too dry when I ordered my burger. The bun was very difficult to bite through and I almost had to tear through it with my teeth. This is contrary to most burger experiences that feature a pillowy soft bun. A luxury pub feel and a hearty serving of chips make this a good bite for those needing a fun lunch.

Nice place. Drinks service was good. But when it came down to dinner service it was a bit too slow. Also at dinner we had to ask twice for drinks top up. Hence 4 stars

This pub has being trying to get more business and locals to come and eat drink and enjoy. So I decided to try this pub and the food is not good, the staff are unskilled and rude. So won't be heading back.
The photos on this website don't live up to a gastro pub or a great pub that serves food.
There are so many other pubs close by that have good food and great service.
So sad it was a poor experience.
H. C.
amazing vegan food. Great service. lively atmosphere
A. M.

My brother and I used to regularly share a few beers here, amazing pub and really friendly atmosphere. Hoping you get to re-open soon!

Pretty good for a brewery-owned pub. Decent selection of beers and wines and their charcuterie bar-snacks are always a winner. Decent patio/garden too.
V. S.
Good pub very relaxing

Good sizeable pub. Staff are excellent with children. Decent Sunday roast, but not comparable to some of the Highgate pubs in terms of food and value
O. H.
Good food and great staff. The steak was okay and the chips are perfect. I'm proud to have this as my local.
D. W. S.
Good atmosphere, great range of beers, excellent food, heated beer garden. Recommended. Five mins from East Finchley tube. Across the road from the wonderful historic Phoenix Cinema.

A busy pub with a classy gastropub dining room. Food is lovely, with decent veggie options and a great wine list. Definitely recommended if you're in the area!

Excellent pub/restaurant, cosy but stylish decor, and food far above average for a pub. Don't expect 5 star restaurant quality, but definitely a cut above most.
