Reviews of The Beehive - JD Wetherspoon
g. d.
Very close to David Bowie memorial and tube station. Had a couple of beers 🍻 to chill out. Very friendly staff, customer's and atmosphere. Will definitely 💯 visit again when in London. 99p a pint 😀😃🙂🙃😊
G. L.
10/10 spoons here. Fast service fast pints. Speedy service just gets the job done pre gig, and they have an unreal vegetarian lasagne special for only like 3 or 4 quid. If you're on the run and in need of a feed and G&t GET here. Immediately. Quick and forty but that's what we live for out here, always hustling, always striving, always delivering.
J. W.
This is a Wetherspoons in the heart of Brixton. When you have a pub selling pints for 99p you know what you're going get. Mayhem. Good luck.
C. S.
Nice pub, shame about the regulars who act like they own the place, went on Saturday for a quick drink before a gig, found ourselves a corner out the way of people passing. Guy sitting at the table next to us slammed he’s chair into my friends leg to make us move even though there was no where else to go, one woman hogging a table for 6 nursing one pint and when 2 young guys went and sat at the end she started moaning. This place needs more people management, maybe stop people table hogging or reduce the capacity, buy I won’t be rushing back next time I go to a gig in Brixton, there is a nice bar over the road that we quickly went into to get out the chaos.
G. R.
Very old school 'Spoons but seemed to have a friendly local vibe. Not getting the chargrilled half chicken again though
D. C.
Can get busy at times always friendly staff the chicken wings are a must with hot sauce not as clean as other branches, you may have to wait for your online orders, sometimes not picked up on the system.
T. l.
This place feels chaotic.....mysterious. there is an air of chance, regret, unrealised endings. The air is thick with smoke and sweat and the toilets are surprisingly clean.
Man in the plastic green cap, I will always love you.
M. U.
The owner of the chain is an utter arse, but there's no ignoring that his pubs offer affordable booze and decent pub grub. The Brixton branch is always pretty lively
J. R.
Arrogant bouncers but the rest of the package was okay. Ordered a drink to the table nearest the window, received it just as I got in and drank up pretty swiftly before moving on.
2. C. D.
Entertaining little place very much a locals fee and decor!l . Possably spoons were going for the rundown and tired local Booker look. Or perhaps they just forgot to decorate it when they took it over ? Some colourful characters to watch and pass the time if day. Good friendly staff gave us a warm welcome .
S. W.
The best pub in Brixton. Always lively, good customer service, friendly. Good food quality. Just need some music.
A. G.
The place is all right. It is often quite busy. The food is good. Nothing particularly exciting. The burger was fine the fries could have been better. On a good note it is quite cheap.
M. V. C. S.
The place is nice, but our food wasn't good, our pizza bread was raw in the middle, the chicken without flavour and the prawns was very soft not good texture like fried without being defrost properly.
The BBQ chicken pizza was very tasty. We enjoyed it.
H. Y.
The g&ts were good and came very quickly
i.
Standard Wetherspoon at the heart of Brixton, very busy friday and saturday evenings, limited space and no beer garden or terrace.
E. S.
Amazing pub close to Brixton underground. Really cheap and good food! I highly recommend this place either for eating before a great night out at Brixton, or if you fancy a cheap drink in the area.
J. C. (. a. J.
Average Wetherspoon’s pub in Brixton. Four cask beers available when I visited, three of which were from Sambrook's. Incredibly cheap - Sambrook's Junction at £1.99 a pint!
P. G.
Good value for money! But nothing that special, junior staff are friendly. Managers less so! Great beers, average wines! Bring back the Sunday roasts!
B. O.
Its OK for what it is. Warm people, good customer service and it has a vibe. Nothing I can put my finger on. I like it
G. g.
Staff was very nice..made us fill out track n trace before entering walked us to pur seats...remembered us when we came back later...bbq chicken pizza very tasty too
M. B.
The service different from other weathers spoons I have been to. Just pop in there for a quick drink to burn some time.
L. M.
Great pub and atmosphere cheap drinks quick service. Big up from North Wales 🏴 visitors
P. S.
Best pub in London - you can't argue with those prices
J. F.
A true pub of the people ....who want a cheap pint. Love it.
I. C.
Great for a pre gig drink.
Good beer.
R. M.
Nice traditional pub, good ale decent prices
M. B. N.
Good ale variety of ales and cyder, one of them han no gas and other was too warm. Food is great though and not expensive, the place is nice. All ages and kinds of people meet here, an very nice Brixton place.
P. D.
Often busy and hard to get a seat and the toilets are usually grim
J. C.
Good breakfast, but the stella wasn't as good as it should have been
m. s.
Cheap and cheerful, had a great Eggs Benedict.
R. F.
Cheerful, helpful service.
They had run out of salt when I was there, though.
r.
Lovely staff, lovely food and great prices.
K. E.
Love the good. Just needs to be cleaner
A. B.
Popped in for breakfast before having to start my shift at another pub in the area and I just have to say that you truly have some great staff there! Jonathon was amazing on the door, actively participating in conversation with me the whole I was there and just full of positivity. every person that walked through the door was treated kindly and was even dishing out compliments, truly a great guy! Would come back again just to have another chat with him.
Cheers Jonathan for making it a great visit!
B. H.
Avoid this place if there's a band on at the o2 academy! it gets sardines!
J. J.
Bit crowded. Not the friendliest of places. But okay in general
s. h.
Busy. Relaxed pleasant atmosphere, touch noisy for me though good bar service, forgot to offer my receipt then gone so quickly, otherwise pleasant. Only one table empty so good people watching spot. Large space so easy to move around.
No outdoors or smoking/ vaping areas for those that do, or as a calmer place to be out of the noise.
R. S.
Good old fashioned spoons boozer..cheap and unpretentious
A. F.
My book is now out make your order on my pages angellascriptwritingclub.wordpress.com
V. H.
Best pub around, it has a catchy vibe
p. b.
Unlike some of the corporate feels of the larger spoons in London, this one felt like an old fashioned pub.
A pint of real ale for £1.79! I had a Doombar and a bottle of Brooklyn. For food I had the chicken wings.
Good service from Jonathan.
M. S. l.
This was my local for many years. Had some great nights here. The food is great the atmosphere friendly and drinks flowing. It is quite small so gets busy and noisy quickly. Good place to get your first drink of the night.
A. B.
The beehive being one of whetherspoons pubs was great value for drinks when in Brixton, A pint of real ale started at £1.49!! The place was busy when we visited yesterday but there were still a few seats if you hunted around. Food is served here and whilst we didn't eat, from what I saw the food looked good and to whetherspoons usual standard. Bar service was attentive and quick. A good pub.
E. J. B.
Wonderful ales in an old-fashioned yet rustic and genuine atmosphere. Very kind staff, who is also willing to delve into conversation. A must see if you are wondering off the typical tourist routes in London.
A. C.
Average Wetherspoons watering hole. Small place which gets real busy. Mostly frequented by regular middle aged - older people, who seem to remain there for a good few hours. Very loud, also unfortunately still can’t take your dog inside and no outside seating. Affordable but definitely ‘cooler’ places around...
H. L.
Tis a spoons but the staff were particularly good, we were there on a Friday early afternoon and the two young guys were totally lovely!
C. L. (.
Very cheap but also very good. Had the chicken and it was very tender
Q. V.
It's a Wetherspoons. Pretty much that says it all. The bartender who attended to me was really friendly. I hung out here with my mom and a friend and we all enjoyed the food. Proper British pub food. It is quite small and gets packed quite easily and the crowd can be riley but that is a part of being a pub.
S. J.
Love this place, can't wait to be back for regular weekend brunches. Only point of improvement would be making sure vegan items are always in stock!
J. D.
Good for drinks before dance
G. K.
Not the best place to go out. But it's good enough for those with not much money. Everything here is rly low prices compared to other restaurants/pubs in the area.
You should at least try it once. I mean, with drinks starting at £2.10 and meal deals starting at £4.59 (with soft drink) or £5.59 (with alcoholic drink) it's definatelly worth a try.
S. M.
Your typical Wetherspoons. We went on a Saturday night and the service was amazing, they went above and beyond, and the drinks were great.
S. H.
Served very quickly despite the place being packed
C. E.
Very busy but great service
S. C. (. t.
Good and cheap drinks, £7.50 for two double gin and tonics!! The carpets were a bit gross, and it was so busy, can’t believe people were having dinner while everybody was standing around the tables drinking. They need to remove some of the tables after a certain time.
S. L.
Great little pub. Went there for a quick bite before a gig at the Academy. Though it was heaving I was served quickly at the bar, found a couple of spaces at the end of a table (so even the other customers were very welcoming) and the food arrived promptly. Would recommend.
D. C.
A nice place. A typical Wetherspoons.
t. M.
Friendly customers, attentive 1st rate attendant waiter staff, look forward to being a regular in a great funky location.
H. B.
I love this pub. I first drank there in 1999 when a gin and tonic was 99p and a double gin and tonic was 1.49! Lovely and lively clientele and excellent service. Always a pleasure to pop back in for a drink.
S. M.
Your typical Wetherspoons. We went on a Saturday night and the service was amazing, they went above and beyond, and the drinks were great.
R. P.
No more to be said you can't beat a Wetherspoons
D. H.
Its your typical Weatherspoons really but they have got great staff and the measures they've taken for Covid are excellent
J. A.
Nice food, value for money
M. B. N.
Good ale variety of ales and cyder, one of them han no gas and other was too warm. Food is great though and not expensive, the place is nice. All ages and kinds of people meet here, an very nice Brixton place.
B. D.
It's a decent pub nothing much
C. M. A.
Always a good place to meet friends.
H. B.
When they for a meal experience very good
J. B.
ma local . will be visiting more often
M. C.
Great little pub! While the "Beast from the East" storm was on, it was a cosy, welcoming haven to sit and read the paper and warm up. The breakfast was good value for money for London (I'm a Leeds lass), along with unlimited top ups of your hot drink.
Yes, as one reviewer pointed out, there was some "savoury characters" there, and the carpet has a very busy pattern, but I never witnessed any bad behaviour, nor did I at any point have any problems.
I'd be happy to visit again, as for me a cosy welcoming place in a cold storm is always preferable to some "up itself place."
P. C.
Very crowded and noisy. The toilets are a disgrace. On the upside they don't allow people to remain at bar, which is annoying when you are trying to buy a drink. I wish all weather spoons would inforce that rule. I find bar fly's a great irritation
T. L.
This seemed a decent place to meet before a gig. Crowded. Vibrant. Good service. Bouncers. Tequila shots with salt and fresh lemon. Decent beer selection. And bang in the middle of Brixton. Works for me.
H. x.
It's a lovely little (I mean little) pub, we went in there before the gig started and managed to get a table, we ordered our food which came in an early and was delicious, we drank our favourite beverages which were on a good deal. Overall, would go there again when we're in the area again
A. M.
One the plus side it's cheap and has a good selection. On the minus side the service is slow, it gets quite crowded, and the atmosphere can get quite unpleasant. Unusually for a Wetherspoons, the tables are often sticky and the menus are often as not soaked in stale beer.
R. C.
Had few drinks there with my friends. Pub is nice. Friendly staff. Pub food was good also. Not expensive. Will go there again.
L. F.
Belongs to chain of pubs but retains fairly authentic feel. Large selection of beers and alcohol at very reasonable prices. Very close to Tube station. Just like on street outside, the pub clientele is very diverse, colorful, and authentic - like the best parts of Brixton itself.
D. P.
Rough and ready pub; the best that Brixton has to offer the thirsty man! Beer well-kept, and cheap - under £3 the pint! Usual Witherspoon's menu, a good care meal + a drink currently costing around £8. You won't find better value!
H. C.
Not the most picturesque 'Spoons, charmingly dingy tbh, but a hub for the local community and generally a good vibe. Gets very busy on a Friday/Saturday night. The ever reliable Wetherspoon's experience - cheap, cheerful booze and grub, a general feel of faded splendour, unique carpet design, endless refills on hot drinks. A people's Palace. My only concern are the pro Brexit views of Tim Martin expressed in the in-house magazine
N. S.
Reasonable prices and quick service.
R. P.
No more to be said you can't beat a Wetherspoons
O. S.
Great humor and staff excellent
J. C.
I mean, it’s a Weatherspoon. Plus side you can order from your table. Down sides, they sometimes forget part of the order. Last time I was hear a random brawl broke out of nowhere and some bloke downed his pint before vomiting immediately back into the empty glass. Stay classy Brixton.
B. Y.
This is the old Brixton before gentrification and the same characters from 20yrs ago still drink and socialise here. Prefect place for a few drinks before heading somewhere else, It's very cheap with some pints costing £2! But wouldn't order food in the place, doesn't look clean enough
S. M.
Light blue touch paper and stand back!
Actually it's past reputation is well buried nowadays.
One of th best S.London pubs for action and interesting/varied clientele.
Always good selection of ales and ciders at decent JDW prices.
S. D.
A great place to get a quick meal!
B. L.
Best little Wetherspoons in London
T. B.
Friendly staff and clients. All low key. Even though Antonio didn't know where the pump was for Morreti. All good. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks for a chilled drink. Tim.x
A. H.
For a small to medium size pub The Beehive has a decent choice of Ale and food at genuine Wetherspoons prices. No beer garden or pavement tables and being only a stone's throw from the Brixton Academy it gets extremely busy on gig days There is no drinking at the bar allowed on those days.
J.
A true institution and a stalwart of Brixton. I asked for a pint of British-brewed ale, and oh boy did the beehive come through with the goods.
I'd recommend visiting just before a bladee gig in order to experience the pub when it's absolutely popping.
R. G.
What can you say about a Wetherspoons? Reasonably priced drinks and food, plenty of offers on alcohol and if you have the Wetherspoons app you can order directly to your table, perfect for those who don't want to wait at the bar.
This place is always busy and getting a table may be difficult, especially during peak times but the pleasent interior and atmosphere far make up for it.
A wonderful bonus is that it's a 5 minute walk to Brixton underground and a number of bus stops, making travelling a breeze.
w. c.
Staff was lovely, drinks where super cheap, food was average but overall a great experience. Would definitely recommend and come again next time I'm in Brixton and feinding for a cheeky drink 💯
M. G.
Typical Wetherspoon but unusually for this type of pubs had security at the doors. Good prices but was clearly short staffed.. tables not cleared quickly but with friendly staff. A good place to sit down for a chat and drink.
C. S.
Very noisy, very busy, not my style of music but can't review the place on preference. Drinks and staff were great and if it's your kind of thing, I think you'll love it
B.
It's a Wetherspoons so price wise can't go wrong. Not somewhere you would take someone on a first date but a quick drink after work when you're passing thu it's fine. Friendly staff and ok atmosphere.
C. M. A.
Always a good place to meet friends.
E. R.
Pleasant pub and eatery with decent clientele. Pleasant staff and clean environment. A good selection of food on the menu along with the usual choice of drinks you'd expect from a pub.
A. E.
Have been in afew times, all different age ranges. At times gets very busy and sometimes the tables are abit grubby. Drinks very cheap, found the service quite fast. Have never eaten here.
K.
Same old Wetherspoons, nothing changes except the staff
C. D.
Really handy if going to the Brixton Academy because of its location.
Pretty quick service and friendly staff. Drinks are reasonably priced, but it can get very busy just before a gig.
Basically my pre-gig pub of choice in Brixton
F. S.
The site is very good, the only bad thing is the current restriction that only lets you order 3 drinks per person, it seems ridiculous to me
S. S.
Standard 'spoons. Generally busy, especially weekend evenings (as you'd expect). During the day it's mostly older locals, in the evening (especially when there is something on at the Academy) the clientele becomes a bit more varied.
J. A.
Nice food, value for money
J. L. C.
Weatherspoons cheap and very nice food, downside are all the local drunks I was there at around 13:30 and full of drunks everywhere, but apart from that the food was lovely try the (ultimate burger) is lush.
D. M.
Great for "People watching." A Whetherspoon pub so cheap alcohol. A great mixture of people, busy at times because of the concert venues in Brixton and clubs. Can be a little loud and wild at times.
J. V.
Decent pub, good selection of beer, nice staff, standard Wetherspoon's food.
Prices are good, decor is oldschool pub.
Often incredibly busy on nights when there is an event at the Brixton Academy
K. L.
Five beers being changed which left Doom Bar Ruddles and London Pride on
J. Z.
Good vibe and friendly people. Well priced drinks also, service was a bit slow with the barmaid who appeared to be under influence but otherwise great pub.
L. M.
This place is in a great location for a few drinks before a concert in the Brixton Academy. It's quite crowded but that is to be expected, other than that, its just a typical Wetherspoons!
J. L.
Not sure what they serve here, because 3/4 of the pamphlet was about Brexit, the other page claimed that Swedish cider would get cheaper if we left the EU. Er, right. So this pub gets 51.8% of the stars. Last orders before the Brexession.
d. h.
Well it's a 'spoons, so what do you expect? However, as a pre-gig bar before heading to Brixton Academy it's a decent enough place. Reasonable choice of beer, happy to visit again!
P. C.
Lively and crowded high street place. Full of regulars and concert goers for the O2, service was quick and food looked good for a Spoons
G. M. T.
Good prices. Good location. Informal and can get noisy. Thats life
P.
It's one of the cheapest pubs in Brixton there's a nice atmosphere.food is cheap to bar staff are very helpful you can have a good night out there the only one thing about this pub there no music allowed to be played in the pub children allowed under till 6:00 child friendly
B. T.
A place where you can drink and relax. After all it's Witherspoon what can go wrong. I often visit Beehive, and it's a place I recommend for anyone who want to visit Brixton. There is plenty buses and Brixton underground station is not far from it.
H. J.
small pub, over crowded on the friday night I visited and probably every night there's an event at O2 Academy. Long queue at Bar not enough staff to cope.
K. W.
We found the drinks were very cheap, but a small pub so limited room. The toilets could of been better, locks broken and the floor was awash.
B. S.
Very cheap beer. Standard Weatherspoons menu. A very odd mix of customers from people in suits to full-time drinkers and Rastafarians. Expect a friendly but sometimes weird conversations with the other customers.
M. S.
Good friendly local. Down London for 2days watching spurs.on Victoria line . Wy drink london price wen you can go places like Brixton
d.
A very decent 'spoons this one. busy and lively. handy for a nice cheap drink and scoff before going off to the academy for a night out
s. s.
Good pricing, nice staff. Crowded. Had to clear our table to get a seat and table very wobbly.
Nice place to stop for 1 to get out of the rain
K. M.
Handy Weatherpoons on the Brixton High Street. Don't expect glamour or trend but a friendly local bunch. Good place to meet for a quiet weatherspoon value drink. As to be expected they have a good range of beers.
D. N.
My local Spoons. Does what it says on the tin. Often have to queue Friday/Saturday nights.
O. T.
Smashing pub, staff really nice. Even forgot my change and they brought it to the table. Cheap too. Lovely
C. L.
Get completely packed through local trade as well as people going to Brixton Academy - it’s the only pub en route from Brixton Tube Station. Not all Wetherspoons are the same some are grubby some are palatial and this is at the grubbier end. That’s not always a bad thing and the place attracts some real characters. But the choice of ales compared to other Wetherspoons is disappointing.
Probably a lot more comfortable once the main act has is on stage at the Academy.
G. L.
Nice place and very good prices
S. n.
Typical south London spoons, perfect a pre gig drink if you're going to electric or the Brixton academy. Full of characters. Great food. And staff.
A. C.
This is a standard weatherspoons. Nice place to go in Brixton for a fairly cheap bit of food or a pint. Very convenient for the tube and located near to Brixton Academy so decent for pre gig pints.
M. F.
Quite the eclectic mix - the punters are what makes this place so special, there’s a bit of everything here - this also applies to the menu :) Would highly recommend for a slightly surreal outing
J. B.
It's the same as every other spoons - incredible value, sticky tables and a pretty good range of drinks
K. B.
Food and drinks were very cheap very relaxing staff are very polite
Will definitely go again❤👍
S. G.
Great pub this and feels very much like a local pub .
Booths , tables or a seat by the window to watch the world go by .
M. B.
a true locals local pub, quite a few characters in and out. great place to stop for a pint and a quick bite, maybe even make a friend!
J. B.
ma local . will be visiting more often
C. C.
Fantastic pub. Often frequent here before heading over to Brixton Academy.
Always a nice atmosphere and good pricing on the beer too.
B. x.
Lively pub with great priced drinks friendly staff can be busy on weekends good place to have pre drinks if going to Brixton O2 as is just round the corner
J. B.
Been here a few times before and after a gig at Brixton academy. It's a weatherspoons great prices on food and drink atmosphere is good.
I. R.
Great place.great food at the brixton branch.
Coffee refills .real people. Best pub in town
g. v.
Always a great atmosphere here whatever time of the day you go in ,great pint and reasonable prices
B. D.
Cheerful. Busy. Tradtional. Nice can of Black sheep beer. I liked the booths, along the side. Nice clean loos.
A. T.
Exactly what I expected no frills, busy, cheap full of Brixton locals and first time gig going peeps, had no problems, couldn't work out why they had a magnetic exit system on the gents loo... Brixton,
G. F.
Friendly service, friendly atmosphere. Core local customer base, it was a nice place to have a late pub lunch and catch up with friends.
S. T.
Not usually a fan of Wetherspoons but the pints are very cheap for London and it's good spot near to the Academy. There's a bouncer on the door and sometimes a queue to get in.
M. M.
Buzzing pub lively
j. B.
Good attention to the public
a. w.
Had an exceptionally revitalising dining experience here this morning - food, staff and facilities were fantastic and Tegan (unsure of spelling sorry) in particular was hands down one of the most lovely and helpful people I have ever been served by.
M. V. c.
Friendly and affordable
J. N.
Bog standard Spoons, busy as a beehive but that's to bee expected. Great spot to get a bit of a buzz going before a gig, with prices that won't sting.
S. K.
Very busy, toilets need replacing very poor, drinks reasonable, staff polite, customers extremely mixed bunch
F. F.
Great location and fast service
H. B.
When they for a meal experience very good
C. B.
Great, affordable bar.
They have a good selection of drinks and good opening times!
F. L.
Typical Wetherspoons, good location for a cheap pint or two before a show at Brixton Academy. Much better pubs around the area for more lengthy sessions.
G. H. P.
Good pub but gets packed too quickly on gig night's and doormeb wouldn't let friends join us despite us saving seats for them
S. G.
10/10 for this spooky van Gogh rip off
B. W.
Some interesting pushy characters in this busy pub. Good vibe. Very good tasting ales. Brixton certainly attracting the new crowd
D. H.
As Spoons go, this is a rather cramped, almost spit and sawdust kind of joint. But it's still a good place to get a round in Brixton, before moving on.
D. D.
I was there before a gig at Brixton Academy, and thought there was a great atmosphere. The staff coped brilliantly with a huge volume of customers. I was very impressed.
J. M.
Not very spacious when theres a show at the academy and seating is limited but service was good.
G.
This is an old favourite of mine scruffy comfortable good service well kept ale. But, u can smell the gent almost from the door.
C. V.
There's a camera in the mens toilets that looks like it's pointed at the sink and urinals?
R. N.
Smells like the great unwashed and full of old and rough punters but beer is excellent and cheap, love it.
E. D.
It was great to find a pub in London with reasonable prices. Good selection of ales and great people hanging in the pub.
