Reviews of The Bricklayer’s Arms
R. S.
Really lovely & knowledgeable staff and a wonderful selection of craft beers. This is one of my favourite spots in the area. I’ve never been disappointed with the stuff or craft beer selection. 🙏🏻👊🏻 Keep up the good work🍺
L. T.
It's a crime this isn't rated 5 stars. Chris, Ben and the team are legends and super accommodating to all (including four-legged pals). Great beer and wine selection. Must have done something right in a past life for this to be my local.
M. B.
Absolutely a must for anyone in the area, great selection of beers and wine. Friendly village atmosphere where you can even take your dog! Old style pub games available, everyone happy to help! Brilliant little spot! Highly recommend you visit!
N. B.
Lovely proper pub with awesome selection of cask ales, 12ish pumps. Dog friendly, nice wood fire with high back armchairs. Bar games. Friendly new owners who've obviously put a lot of love into keeping the place alive. Best pub in Putney by far.
B. D.
Fantastic beer range usually including Timothy Taylor beers. Recently renovated with a small outside area at the rear. Busy on Fulham match days
W. B.
Great pub. A bit different from the usual formulaic offering most pubs give you. A dog peed on my jacket that was over the back of my chair. You don't get that at a Fuller's pub.
E.
Hands down the best local pub I know.
Since visiting I keep inviting friends here and groups I know. Beers are of a wide variety and seem to get changed for different flavours every couple weeks. There is one specific to Putney which I have grown rather fond of. The pub also hosts a large selection of games. The staff are truly excellent.
What more is there to love. Small, quaint and great.
The only thing to be aware of though is they don't serve food here. Only snacks Make sure to have eaten something beforehand.
C. R.
Excellent range of well-kept beer and friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful atmosphere. Best pub in Putney.
R. G.
Lovely pub 🍻 great atmosphere. The new owners have made a real change as haven't been there for a few years and would def go again.
They have boardgames and swing ball game if you're competitive.
F. R.
The only decent pub in Putney. Great selection of keg and cask beer. Staff are brilliant, knowledgeable and friendly - always feel welcome by Chris and the team
S. S.
Lovely pub. Great beer and a fire as well. Perfect!
B. F.
Went to have a look at the result of the recent refurbishment. Nicely done. Well kept beer. Forgot that the last Sunday of the month was the afternoon for the folk-singing group to be in residence, and a very pleasant surprise it was too. Much better than a jukebox!
J. S.
Incredible Pub now it has been refurbished and taken over by new management. Great home feels with a warm smile and fantastic choices of alcohol to make you feel welcomed.
G. T.
A excellent public house serving Timothy Taylor's beers and other beers from near and far .eight hand pumps serving real ale and four keg dispensers. No food served
No TV, screens either .a long walk from Putney Train station but busses go by near to the pub.
M. V.
Chris the owner is the most welcoming and kind barman. It is so cosy and it is the only truly locals vibe I have found in Putney. A must visit!
M. M.
The best pub in Putney / the world. Great pints, snacks and atmosphere.
R. H.
Flawless cask ales and perfect service. A great pub to visit for great beer!
J. J.
Great atmosphere, good selection of beers and a real community vibe. Very glad that this pub reopened after lockdown and the refurb looks excellent.
A. M.
The pub has just reopened after a thoughtful refurbishment. It has retained all of its natural charm. No food, great beer, great company, now driven by a group of young guys who are enthusiastic and know their beers. Comfortable, convivial and compulsive.
J. D.
Visited the newly refurbished and reopened Brickies on Sunday. Great improvement to the rear pub space and nice new outside seating area, while keeping the original front bar area much as it always was. Fantastic range of beers all in tip top condition as well as friendly and helpful staff. This is a great pub and it's so good to see it open again.
E. O.
A complete gem of a pub. This is an island paradise in a sea of naff Wandsworth gastro pubs like the Jolly Gardeners round the corner. We were desperate to get out of that place and couldn't believe our luck when we found the Bricklayers. True, they only took cash and they don't seem to do food, but if you're after a good quality pint in a no nonsense but friendly pub, this is the place for you.
R. L.
A great little pub tucked away in a quiet back street near the river in Putney. When every other pub in the area has become a chain pub or a super gentrified and soulless place it was so nice to find this cute pub with lovely beer and a nice interior. Particularly like the fact they allow you to order in food from outside.
A. H.
Lovely traditional old pub with lots of seating, open fire, friendly staff and good beer. This place is a must-see for anyone into their real ales. It is the only pub in London serving the full Timothy Taylor range (7 taps), plus another 3 - 4 taps with a selection of guest ales. Could benefit from having food on offer but then there are plenty of options nearby if you want to dine before or after.
T. D.
Great range of ales and a warm welcome
M. Q. (.
This gem of a back street pub is pulling out all of the stops. A fine array of ales served up by savvy, well-versed staff with great character. Pub games and community spirit. Bravo!
T. S.
Intimate, cozy people with friendly staff and a huge selection of local ales, a lovely place to grab a couple pints, especially in winter
V. S.
Lovely pub great atmosphere great bar staff definitely returning highly recommended
C. C.
Best pub in London. Cosy, great beer & atmosphere.
P. R.
Great Guinness. Great local pub. Best in Putney by far.
M. D.
A fantastic pub.
A very wide range of beers.
Great staff.
S. H.
A humble little pub just off the main road. It attracts mostly locals, not only because of its lower pricing but because of its friendly atmosphere. Putney runners replenish here after their Wednesday bridges run.
K. B.
The best and only real pub left in Putney. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Not a real ale fan myself, but people I know that are reckon it's top notch. Fast becoming my second home.
J. C.
These guys know how to run a good pub, keep it up 👍
T. S. P.
So happy to see this legendary Putney pub open again, and smartened up inside and out. The focus on real ales, rather than food, is so refreshing and sets the Bricklayers apart from all other pubs in the area. The young and enthusiastic bar staff are obviously happy to be working there and help create a great atmosphere - dog friendly too!
D. C.
Absolutely delighted that the Brickie has reopened -- and, amazingly, even better than before, without losing any of its old charm. Proper community pub, beautifully-kept range of real ales, and really friendly guvnor and staff. Welcome back, Brickie. We've really missed you.
G. W.
Visited for the first time since the pub's refurbishment. Very tastefully done, improved facilities but retained all the charm of this back street boozer. Great selection of real ales. Friendly manager and staff. A unique little gem of a pub.
M. S.
Really friendly pub with amazing selection of Timothy Taylor beers, fun pub games, little terrace. Suuuper friendly staff
I. D.
Lovely to be back at the Brickies, refurbishment has kept its character, and the choice of beers is fantastic, Chris really knows his stuff -- still does Taylors but also beers from local microbreweries, I think there were about a dozen on yesterday.
L. B.
Nice friendly pub, good beer.
E.
Great little local pub, hidden off the high street in Putney. Free house serving Timothy Taylors.
T. E.
Met some friends in here before a gig at the Half Moon. Found a warm cosy spot in front of the lovely coal fire. The full range of Timothy Taylor's were on tap, which we merrily worked our way through. Staff were very friendly. They accept payment by card.
T. H.
Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Fantastic selection of beers, wines and gins.
A. M.
One the taller of the smaller brothers bothered me last time I went there … asked them to desist - they did
G. B.
Good pub with a very nice selection of beers. The downside only a single mens toilet!!
C. W.
A real pub with a great atmosphere and selection of fantastic beers from small independent breweries. Looking forward to it reopening soon, good timing to sit by the fire!
B. h.
I've always been told that this place was quirky, but always popular with people who want a decent pub that isn't catering to the mass market larger crowd. It turns out it's true, there's a decent selection of real ales, although it's well known that they run out of stock of many, and occasionally all of the ales. Contrary to what you might read elsewhere, they do take cards. The atmosphere is really good, a genuine family run pub in London. As long as you understand what this place isn't, not a gastropub, not a cutting edge craft beer taproom, and not a cocktail and dance venue, then you should enjoy it for the charm of a local with a great ale selection.
A. R.
Excited for this beautiful pub to re-open!
Good rotational beers, great atmosphere, cracking fire place!
What's not to love. Can't wait to see the new chapter
G. T.
The recently reopened Brick is easily the best pub in central Putney. Great service, friendly staff and an outstanding range of cask beers
J. W.
This is a proper old fashioned pub. Wooden interior, horseshoe bar, open fire. Currently serving a full range of Timothy Taylor's with three rotating guest beers and all kept and served with immaculate perfection. I would love it if they would consider putting on some keg craft beers, as it's a wonderful place to drink and there is no reason pubs can't provide both.
C. S.
Great place for drinking Ale from the cask.
I. W.
I enjoyed my visit, whilst not my local, it's a firm favourite.
N. D.
Exceptional Beer great ale, great landlord
B. H.
I always had a soft spot for the Bricklayers, however stopped coming for a while. Glad to say that it is back to the cosy, welcoming pub it was when Becky first reopened the pub. Great to have the Timothy Taylor brews back, although I will miss the beer garden.
N. P.
Great selection of beers and fast service.
M. D.
Great friendly pub with really good beer. Shame some nimbys caused the once a year Morris dancing to be stopped. I'm looking forward to it reopening following the current (2020) building work.
M. J.
Really top bar.... thanks for accommodating us leeds lot... Will visit again....
E. B.
A quirky gem of a pub. Probably what men of my dad's generation would call a 'proper pub' with more ale on tap than lager and friendly staff who love their community. Situated in a back alley next to a council estate but near the river, this is something you need to seek out and something you'll not regret finding. 5/5 for friendly community style pubbing
M. W.
Nice beer and a friendly welcome but I'm knocking a star off for the state of the loos. No seat in the gents, puddles on the floor, and a blocked trough. I did quite like the roll of hand towel hanging on the broken air dryer though.
I don't know what other people do in pub toilets but it baffles me why someone would rip a toilet seat off and why landlords wouldn't have them stockpiled to be easily replaced?
N. W.
Cant wait for this gem to reopen soon! Now more than ever we need our community pubs. Looking forward to trying some great local beers
C. B.
Such a good fun staff, brilliant ales - proper old boozer. Always my pub of choice
P. D.
Very old original pub in the back streets of Putney.
G. A.
A real ale lover's paradise. Head in here on any given day of the week and chances are you'll find a beer you've never heard of. Head back a day later and it'll be gone, replaced with another beer you've never heard it. Tucked away from the bottom of the High Street, The Bricklayers is a friendly local with a nice little beer garden. In short, it's a quite lovely little pub to while away the hours in. Plus, and conforming to the cliche (but in the best possible way) there's a folk singaround every last Sunday afternoon of the month.
F. W.
Great traditional pub serving a full range of Timothy Taylor's ales. Lovely staff a true locals pub where you are made welcome. Takes cards & cash.
S. M.
Just off the beaten track this fine ale house ouzes quality . Handy for a pre match drink before visiting craven cottage it welcomes all sociable people. Some original features like gas lamp fittings are retained although not in use. Timothy Taylor has pump takeover on this visit
M. J.
One of my favourite pubs in Fulham. A proper pub that sells real ale. Used by football fans on March days. Both home and away supporters mixing amicably. Worth a visit in my view.
M. K.
This is the quaint London bar you've been missing. Great Timothy Taylor on draught, and not part of the big pub chains, fight big beer! Get here early, grab leather seats by the fireplace.
R. A.
Top traditional pub with the full range of Timothy Taylor beers on tap. The only TT pub outside Yorkshire. Quaint with friendly staff.
M. P.
Great pub, great staff and a great range of beers. Only bad thing I can say is that they don't accept cards. Well worth a visit just make sure you take cash.
a. t.
Lovely friendly traditional pub, always have guest Beers well kept. Great place for a quiet drink and chat. No annoying games machines etc
L. B.
Very nice pub. They have the best ale and it really is top-quality. I love going there with friends, then maybe enjoy the view of the river and have a great night.
M. D.
Much better than it has been for some time but still needs work to regain the brilliance it once held. Beer was more than satisfactory and the pub cricket team added some great character to the evening.
M. K.
BEST PUB IN PUTNEY!! Best Guinness south side of the river!
O. L.
Beautifully kept beer, great variety. Loved the atmosphere and the people.
J. B.
A great pub serving Timothy Taylor's ales not too far from the river but tucked away in a quiet location. Friendly staff & lovely landlady.
E. H.
Great beer selection
A. S.
Just a few minutes away from the river you can find The Bricklayer’s Arms, a real ale pub in Putney (CAMRA Pub of the Year, don’tcha know). The exterior of the pub might not be as attractive as the nearby Duke’s Head, but the inside is cosy, charming and village-y (in a good way). They are all about the ale so don’t expect a good reaction if you ask for anything else. But even if you’re not into ale, the peaceful beer garden is worth a visit alone. And it’s one of the few pubs I’ve seen with Rose Lemonade in the fridge
D. C.
Diferent place! Very good wine Martin Codax
N. P.
Fantastic pub tucked away at the end of a quiet street. Always a great selection of ales and a friendly atmosphere. Cash only!
B. S.
Recently refurbished, good selection of real ale.
A. L.
This is for serious ale drinkers, the best beers around, nothing fancy. The staff very friendly, greeted us with a big smile.
H. W.
Great old fashioned pub. Friendly staff and finely selected ales. A good place to sit and enjoy a well crafted pint.
P. A.
Very intimate old style local. Cash only as a small independent brewery. Gents toilet needs a bit of T.L.C. as seat in on floor, tap hanging off and no working hand dryer.
A. N.
A perfect traditional English pub. Staff were very welcoming and had great knowledge of there beers they serve
S. A.
Proper pub with loads of Timothy Taylor beers. Say no more!
I. C.
29th March 2016
Pub very much alive and well, serving 4 Twickenham real ales and 3 or 4 craft ale/lagers.
Whoever noted it as closed is doing both the landlord and punters a disservice.
B. P.
Wonderful, a throwback to when pubs were not money machines stamped out of a mould by corporate owners!
Superb atmosphere, well-kept cellar and lovely people upfront, could be addictive!
p. s.
Excellent “Proper Pub” very friendly Landlady and Customers, Extensive range of Beers and Ales!

The most friendly staff and great beer. This is an awesome Putney pub off the high street, without the Rar crowd.

Rare chance to sample Timothy Taylor's beers other than Landlord in London. There was also a live jazz band the night we went.
M. H.
Nice to see a selection of good real ales on again but I feel that £6 for two halves of beer is a bit steep 😮
J. L.
Great eclectic choice of ales. Traditional pub games like table skittles and a real fire.
Nice little beer garden in the summer
R. C.
