Reviews of The Buxton
O. B.
Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting London in January. We booked through a comparison site and got a very good rate that included breakfast. The rooms were small but lovely with good showers, coffee machines and a radio set to play jazz. There's a free terrace with a great city view too.
Breakfast was included and was absolutely incredible. All the ingredients were high quality and cooked right Infront of you.
Would definitely go back.
T. S.
One of my favourite places in London.
The wine list is personal to them, hand picked and changes often to keep it fresh. If you take the time to ask, they'll find you what you're after.
It's an open kitchen and you get to watch the food being made, everyone is polite and it's obvious that they care.
The food is phenomenal - both experimental and traditionally British.
Makes for a great date, well lit to set the mood.
Philippe the manager leads the team here.
J. T.
Great coffee! The management was extremely nice. They allowed my photographer to shoot me inside during business hours. The mask policy is strict and they are very clean.
M. B.
Just checked out and absolutely loved this place. Phenomenal (!!) breakfast that is complimentary with the room. Rooms aren't huge but are nice and have everything you could need and the ambience is lovely. The service is wonderful and they are so helpful! Would definitely come back and stay here again.
J.
Delicious butternut squash soup. The pub/bar is sleek and has a nice ambience in which to relax.
However, (and I was tempted to reduce this review to three stars as a result of this), if we want tap water, then don't try to get the customer to pay a quid so you can give it to charity. If you want to give to charity, then you do it, but don't pressure customers into it and then claim the credit. That's not charity on your part. AND when the customer clearly does not want to engage in your 'scheme,' don't keep pressuring them immediately after they sit down and have clearly shown no interest in giving your business the credit for their donations. What a way to kill the vibe!
Being charitable myself, I retain four stars.
K. P.
Great place to stay for a few nights, no noise problems from the pub below. The food here is amazing for both breakfast and dinner. Make sure you stop by!
E. F. H.
Been there a few times for drinks, and went for food the other day. The ambiance and staff are incredible, and even when busy, delivers top quality service. Which gives it five stars.
The quality of the ingredients are great and the food is really tasty. One little piece of constructive criticism is that every dish but the duck was just a tad underseasoned, which was a bit of a let down.
Y. S.
Great ambience on a Sunday afternoon. Food was well prepared and the quality of the ingredients very good! Felt more bistrot like than a gastro pub - in a good way. Bet it's great in the summer with the windows all open!
A. I. (.
Always a great meal experience at The Buxton! We came there for dinner yesterday evening and everything went really well. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us a really good recommendation for a natural wine to pair with our charcuterie board. The duck was also really juicy and tender. And what can I say about the dark chocolate mousse and shortbread to finish…absolutely delightful! We will definitely return.
S. B.
This Hotel Bar and Restaurant are top notch. The staff are excellent, Michael behind the bar was super helpful and professional, the hotel room was to a very high quality, super clean and comfy with it's own coffee machine 🙂.
This place even has their very own roasted coffee beans roasted for them which is lovely at breakfast time, the full English was perfect and my partner loved the baked eggs dish, the location is also great for brick lane, we will be staying again
L. S.
We enjoyed our stay at the Buxton. It was a very intimate room. On saying that it was very well stocked and had everything we needed. Nice to have an actual coffee machine as we are not fans of instant coffee.
We had breakfast and it was delicious. The staff were very attentive and did not hesitate to help in any way. The roof terrace is small but delightful so beautiful and relaxing up above the city.
The room was very clean as was the rest of The Buxton.
All I will say is I did not look in the draws for ear plugs. The hotel it self is lovely but it is In the middle of a city so they kindly leave ear plugs as the city does not stop just because you check in. They are in the top draw.
Thank you to all the staff keep up the great work x
M. V.
We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed ever aspect. Service was great. They offer an amazing breakfast for hotel guests that is included with your stay.
I will note that the area can be a bit noisy at night, but it was fine for us. Also, the rooms are small - Something to consider if traveling with another guest.
Overall, highly recommend!
K. W.
This bar takes full advantage of its outside space and has created a closed off area at the front the bar. It might be small inside but has plenty of space for everyone. Very busy in the evenings and weekends as Brick Lane lights up with the party animals. Much more relaxed during the day where I enjoy a pint in peace. Friendly staff and always accommodating to make you feel special on your night out.
T. W.
Stopped by on a whim and I am so glad I did. I'm writing this from a table in their lovely street-side seating area feeling very full and very content.
The all round experience was just on point. From the friendly, approachable staff to the decor I wouldn't change a thing (not to mention the delicious breakfast all freshly and expertly prepared).
I stopped by on my own today, but I'm sure that I'll be back with my wife in the very near future.
R. S.
Great place to stay. Yes, a, lot of stairs, small rooms, small shower, but as long as you know this, for the price it's clean, it's got good facilities, includes breakfast, they cure their own bacon, roof top has a seating area where they grow their own salad.
Highly reccomend.
C. M.
A great place for breakfast, although it is a hotel too. Definitely a place to consider staying on another visit. Food was freshly cooked and great quality. The toilets were spotless. Very impressed.
G. A. H.
Brilliant place, very strongly recommend. Cosy room, hot shower, incredible coffee, delicious breakfast and first class service. I'll be staying again with family soon.
N. S.
Had the pleasure of sitting at the bar last night enjoying a cocktail. Great staff, knowledgeable (cocktail ingredients), enjoyed the charcuterie dish - fantastic, ambiance. Coming back soon.
P. B.
Our 2nd visit & highly recommended. Friendly & attentive staff, good food & really great drinks selection. Good choice after visiting the markets at Spittafields & Brick Lane.
k. l.
Cozy hotel that feels more like home than a hotel room.
Friendly and helpfull staff.
Amazing breakfast (a la carte!!)
Amazing food
Close to public transport.
Travelling worldwide for work, this is one of the better experiences i've had so far.
We'll be back!
G. P.
Nice atmosphere, good wine. But somewhat smelly in the main room from the toilets.
p. g.
Stylish rooms and a great vibe make it a enjoyable stay. Rooms on the smaller side, but considering the location, price, roof terrace and great gastropub below, it's an ideal place to spend a few nights
p. a.
Food was nice but I found the menu and beer list a little limited. a solid 'good meal' definitely 4/5 for me.
A. W.
Loved staying here. Staff were genuinely friendly. Food was super. Room is small and compact. Right near Brick Lane. Great Value for money. Will stay here again.
S. N.
Good relaxing place to stay .Rooms good ,clean and comfortable. Good home cooked food well presented .All the staff make you feel welcome, great place to stay
m. r.
Amazing brunch- absolutely fantastic. Had the roasted peppers and poached eggs- was cooked to perfection
O. S.
Interment & cosy restaurant, great service, great fresh food expertly cooked. Cocktails, wine... everything was amazing.
D. W.
Visited July 2021. Had a Sunday roast consisting of the bavette with trimmings (not the usual full roast beef, however, judging from other pictures). As well as the steak, the roast potatoes received many accolades from my dining companion. Great service, with frequent water refills.
P. B.
An off menu cocktail request and the bartender absolutely nails it. Amazing service.
B. R.
Incredibly neat, hipster bar/restaurant. Over the top food menu but fantastic drinks menu. Lovely atmosphere with inside blending into their outside seating area. Highly recommend.
E. L.
Covid safe dining outside, blankets for if you get cold. The food was divine. My boyfriend and I went for the 3 courses for £29, highly recommend if you're looking for amazing quality food without a large bill. Cocktails are also yummy!
J. C.
We stayed overnight and enjoyed the stylish rooms and lovely breakfast. Definitely would go again. Great access to Brick Lane and surrounding areas.
V. P.
The food was tasty, but the portions were way too small to fill me up. For a gastro pub, I'd expect slightly more food per plate. Also there were a lot of smokers, and there was no non-smoking section of the terrace.
P.
Friendly staff, food is good and there's a nice atmosphere as well.
R. C.
What a great little restaurant one of the best breakfasts I have had in a very long time! Food was incredible and the service was excellent to match, I would definitely recommend a visit here!
P. C.
As far as accommodation in London is concerned, this is ideal for short stay. Bedroom with shower ideal for a couple. Tea and coffee machine. No breakfast but evening meal was very good. Friendly staff and ideal location for most areas of interest.
A. J.
Fantastic new place on Brick Lane by the owners of the Culpepper. Lovely outdoor seating out front and delicious bar snacks to go down with your assorted craft beer and wine. Keep it up guys!
S. J.
Great friendly service and fantastic selection of drinks
L. A.
I’ve been to the Buxton a few times and have been thoroughly impressed each time - the food is consistently great (the Sunday roast is incredible - best roast potatoes I’ve ever had!) as is the wine selection, the ambiance is warm, and the service friendly and attentive.
I’m so glad we have such a gem of a restaurant in the neighbourhood.
A. D.
Really cool atmosphere and decor. The manager/staff was really cool, friendly and helpful. Really nice drinks menu. They had run out of cheese and some other foods which was a shame, but will definitely be back here.
N. B.
Wonderful service , good rooms, and s lovely breakfast made this little location in London quite lovely
b. m.
Brilliant stylish gastropub! Culpepper sister, Excellent menu for only £23 ! Superb beers! The IPA ! Frozen beer mug, attention to details, awesome outdoor street terrace
s. c.
Staying at The Buxton and first dining out after May 17th.
Creative menu, superb dishes.
Delicious homemade butter and ricotta.
Chef's sprinkle of "a pinch of sea salt" by the butter, over my bavette, somehow a highlight.
Young and very friendly, helpful team.
Great view of London from roof terrace.
A star on historic, rejuvenated Brick Lane, for vacation and staycation.
P. O.
What a lovely place. Staff are great and the food is absolutely delicious - 5 star quality. Upstairs the rooms are small but with everything you need and an extremely comfortable bed. I recommend The Buxton without any hesitation - Go!
B. C.
A very pleasant bar restaurant, thoroughly recommend it
Attentive and friendly staff.
J. F.
Stayed in hotel. Rooms quirky, compact, clean. Breakfast included in price, great quality and freshly cooked. Only small negative - hand basin in the rooms is not user friendly when cleaning teeth due to really low shelves above basin. Staff attentive and really pleasant. Would recommend.
C. M.
Gorgeous after the refurbishment! Lovely beers and tasty food
Z. I. (. S. Z.
Nice place to have business lunch and dinner.
K. M.
A great little pub and hotel - we stayed two nights, and were impressed with the staff all around. The lady who checked us in even carried one of our bags up four floors to our room! The roof terrace was also a bonus, as was the breakfast and welcome drink. Only downsides were the toilet door which had some gaps which you could see through, and the lack of an elevator. We'd definitely recommend this place!
A. E.
The food looks and tastes awesome, plus a great selection of natural wines to go with. The icing on the cake, the menu changes every month. A must try !
L. I.
Great cocktails including the classic sidecar
S. R.
A great find on brick lane which was nicely not as rammed as the surrounds. Nice ambience, good beer and friendly staff. They were closing the next day for holidays so we weren't able to sample much food but I'd definitely pop in again to try if in the area.
J. M.
I went with friends for a Sunday roast. The food was great, super tasty and good portions for a reasonable price. The staff was super helpful and accommodating. Covid precautions well respected.
L. R.
Great hidden pub newly opened just by Brick Lane. Great beers and service as well as a really nice selection of small plates that changes regularly. There is also a hotel (never stayed) which I am sure is great. Would recommend!
M. H.
Great find. Tasty food and interesting selection of wine 0n their pairing menu. Definitely a place to try. Wonderful service too.
R. G.
Better than i was expecting. The rooms are compact but clean with everything you need including a fan.
Breakfast was great! Best hotel/bnb breakfast I've had for a long while, good ingredients and well put together.
Would definitely stay again. (not suitable for those with physical disabilities all rooms are up narrow stairs)
C. c.
Stayed here last weekend for a family party. Rooms are neat, clean, light and fresh, loved the little extra details, jazz radio playing as you entered and Krups coffee maker, dream. Very attentive staff, great food very impressed by the chef cooking for 30 in his little kitchen, brilliant. Going back week after next to check out the dinner menu. Great work The Buxton
B. K.
My one night stay for work at the Buxton could not have been better but I wish it had been longer. Super cute, new hotel above an equally great pub (best combo ever right!?). The rooms are small but super clean, light and classy. The bed is comfy and there is everything you need (shower stuff, coffee/tea, biscuits). The welcome drink was greatly appreciated and the free breakfast where you can order from a menu was AMAZING! We also had a few of the starters for dinner at the bar which were super delicious. The roof terrace with herb garden makes for a great view over East End London (and a nice Instagram Story to make your friends jealous). Also, you're just around the corner from Brick Lane to hunt for graffity or great food. For the price this was the best deal I have ever gotten when staying in London where it is generally hard to find a decent hotel for a normal price. The young owners and staff are super friendly, warm and great at what they do. I hope I'll manage to stay here again next time I'm in London!
B. T.
Best gnocchi I have ever had!
m.
Best Sunday roast ever! With a French touch, had the beef roast in the picture which was made of excellent, fresh meat (in abundance) with the usual roast sides - potatoes cooked at perfection!
Also had delicious peach ham doughnuts for dessert. All accompanied with a Spanish red - great wine selection as well! The music playlist was also perfect for a Sunday night.
The Buxton is an elegant yet cozy pub, with a fun yet relaxing vibe. Highly recommend for a date.
L. B.
Service was great; friendly and not pushy and there when you need them. Food was really delicious; I had roast beef which was succulent with great veggies and very tasty gravy. Also the layout and airyness of the place with the doors open is lovely
C. O.
We started with just a bottle of wine between three - then ordered Suck Rillettes which was being prepared whilst we drank our wine ! Then had two other dishes!! The service was genuine and so friendly and helpful. Had a look at the rooms and roof top terrace - can’t wait to go back and stay for a night or two. Such a lovely experience!!
P. G.
Nice and well priced, but noise from the street can intrude. Mind you, there are earplugs provided if you are really sensitive, but it wasn't that bad for me.
The team at the Buxton were very friendly and the room was perfect for one night. Comfortable bed and a powerful shower, as well as a Nespresso machine. For one person, I was more than happy. If sharing, just be aware that the bathroom is very snug with little to no privacy...
If I needed another overnight stay in London, this hotel would definitely be on my list.
Jazz FM playing on the radio as you come in to your room was a neat touch, and the TV supported Netflix.
S. A.
It's a beautiful pub and hotel. They served good beers, excellent wines and sophisticated cocktails, I've tried the Ivy gimlet royal and I loved it. I didn't try the food but the menu looks very good. I'll be back soon 😉
F. N. T.
A new welcome addition to my end of Brick Lane (I live around the corner). I have been in a few times now for drinks and snacks now, nice decor, friendly service, good vibe, quality beers,/spirits/cocktails/wine on offer. I would have given 5 stars and be a regular Sunday visitor... if only they offered a veggie roast option!
M. F.
The roast pork and beef were very good quality meat and well cooked, one of the best roasts I've had for a long time. Good beers also and a very nice pub to be in. Only downside is all high stool seating so not a loungy pub.
A. B.
I thought this would be ok, but I was not expecting this ... this place is amazing. I stayed for a night and wish it had been a month. We had drinks (on the sun trap of a roof at sunset with the most amazing view), dinner (ok, how does food this good get served in a pub on brick lane - the food is incredible), slept in one of the rooms (that bed is so comfy I want it at home), and had breakfast (more incredible food).
The decor is perfect - it's so relaxing just sitting having a meal in the bar. The whole place is like a box of delights, from the bar, to the stairs, to the rooms, to the roof. Not only that but if you feel you do need to go somewhere else then brick lane is literally on your doorstep. I'm seriously considering just moving in to one of the rooms permanently.
G. T.
Excellent location- close to underground. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was small but big enough for one person and the bed was super comfortable. It's a bit weird that the bathroom is practically in the room and there is no full barrier to separate it from the bedroom, which is kinda fine if you're alone but for two people may be awkward. The only thing that I lacked was good wi fi signal as I needed it to work and that was kinda inconvenient, but when I was leaving shared this with a member of staff and they promised they'd have it fixed.
S. D.
Amazing pub! Thank you Philippe!
L. J. (.
Marvellous. The brekky, cute rooms. Toilet/shower needs an upgrade.
D. T.
A modern post industrial bar and hotel with an open kitchen. Very pleasant staff and a busy atmosphere. No labels on the beer taps, keg. Cask did display names. An enjoyable place to visit.
S. G.
Had a great meal at The Buxton
I heard about it online and through the grapevine so thought I'd check it out, I can certainly say I wasn't disappointed. The cheese selection is a particular highlight alongside the varied but unique collection of cocktails available. The bavette was also fantastic and I would recommend it whole heartedly. I'll be back soon that's for sure.
T. R.
Came here already expecting it to be amazing and had my mind physically blown. The food is more than delicious, delicious is not even the word for these dishes. They are above and beyond. The staff more than welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere a dream and the aesthetic to die for. The place is an experience not to be missed.
D. B.
Friendly, hard working staff. Lovely outdoor seating on a quiet corner of East, Central London
R. K.
Wonderful decor, bright open space, good beers. Such a shame about the service. At one point there was no one at the bar so we could order another round, so we left early once we eventually paid.
R. D. (. t. C.
Friendly atmosphere, gin recommendations, incredibly clean and cute aesthetic bathrooms. The boy from Edinburgh who worked there and served us was class. Would rate 6 stars if possible.
M. L.
A very good find, a cosy space, friendly and efficient staff, a short but interesting menu and a great choice of beer. I had a lamb suet pudding which was exceptionally good. I will go again!
M. P.
Lovely welcoming staff! Food and room were fantastic. Only slight downside was the lack of privacy with the glass sliding door on the toilet.
h. c.
Excellent service, small room but very cosy. Food was amazing especially breakfast. Manager couldn't do enough for us. Amazing location, will definitely be back x
A. L.
Nice rooms, very clean. Staff was incredibly helpful and nice. Breakfast was great with a wide variety of options. Dinner was also great. Would definitely recommend.
p. f.
I am giving this 4 as we didn't eat so I can't judge (but the good did look delicious). Sat at the bar and chatted to the staff. Lovely ambience. Good coffee.
D. H.
Amazing value! We got a double room, welcome drink (x2) and breakfast (x2) for just £100! Brick Lane on the doorstep and short walk to Shoreditch, great!
F. W.
Running low on lots of soft drinks. Liberal with their bread though.
G. G.
Very good restaurant/hotel.
Newly re-designed, new coffee machine, new rooms, new beers and new kitchen. Staff is very friendly and they open late for evening drinks after work.
D. S. d. R.
Quieter and more civilised than most places nearby, good if you really want to maintain a conversation without losing your voice. Really nice atmosphere and decor too. They make a good Old Fasihoned
e. l. g.
Beautiful pub and absolutely perfect hotel,I couldn't ask for anything better, great location if you want to be close to the City and Brick Lane

Delicious food and coffee and very accommodating, friendly service. Will return with pleasure in the future. Good value and such a change from the other offerings in the area.
P. M.
Great new bar/restaurant. Lovely staff and good selection of drinks. Freshly cooked food. Yum.
A. R.
A very nice and welcoming Pub and Hotel, with a rooftop terrace and small but comfy rooms. It is a bit noisy, as to be expected given the area, but Nice!!

We loved the Buxton experience! The food was excellent, the staff was wonderful, and we'd go again in a heartbeat if we lived in London! Fun and welcoming spot!!!

(Translated) Superb place! We came to the Buxton for a business trip with a last minute booking. The staff was very welcoming, the atmosphere and decoration of the place are very pleasant, and the location close to Brick Lane is ideal.
(Original)
Superbe endroit!
C. A.
(Translated) We spent 3 nights at this hotel. The welcome, atmosphere and breakfast are very pleasant and of very good quality. Jazz music greeted us in the room with a dim light.
The rooms are tastefully decorated, we will find tea and coffee there as well as a hairdryer, hangers, a hi-fi system and several hygiene products.
Only downside is the noise around because we are in a lively neighborhood. It didn't bother us at night from Friday to Saturday and Sunday to Monday. Saturdays are the busiest.
(Original)

(Translated) A wonderful stay, my favorite hotel in London!
The location is ideal close to London Bridge, Bricklane and Shoreditch. We loved the style of the hotel, a successful blend of industrial design and chic. We were greeted in our carefully decorated room with soft jazz music and found all the necessary comfort (unlimited coffee and tea, hangers, toiletries and hand cream, TV, stereo, USB sockets. ...).
We did not have the opportunity to test the meals but the cooked-to-order breakfast is exceptionally good and plentiful. The staff are very welcoming and we left with only one desire: to come back to Buxton soon!

(Translated) Overall we were satisfied with our visit. The hotel is new, modern and looks visually good. The rooms are very small, but for a few days city break absolutely fine. Unfortunately quite noisy and also from the street you get a lot with (although we were at the top). It was very fast, but fortunately we had 2 windows, other rooms only a window. Door to the toilet only to push, so you should know your travel partner already well. Small details in the room like biscuits or coffee / tea are nice. Otherwise very clean. Nice roof terrace with views of the city.
The breakfast was great. Either classic sweet or typical English with a lot of meat. Good coffee and juice. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The area seems a bit dubious, but the location to the tube is great. In 2 minutes in the station, 2 lines and at the edge of zone 1.
We stayed at £ 100 the night with breakfast. It's already £ 25 more. For London conditions priced still in order. Overall, we can recommend the Buxton.

Despite the fact that the shop was full, we received a very friendly welcome and received a welcome drink of your choice.
The rooms are a bit small but well equipped.
The staff was always courteous and breakfast was excellent.
We recommend!

(Translated) Small but comfortable place, chef Jamie delighted us with some really delicious dishes! There is the possibility of having both bar snacks and dishes to choose from a la carte. Good drinks especially the whiskey proposed by Justin at the bar! Recommended!

Consigliato!

(Translated) Atypical hotel with decidedly industrial decoration.
Staff very friendly and friendly.
the entrance to the hotel by the pub is surprising but it is nice to be greeted with a free drink. The nesspresso in the room is great. Lack can be air conditioning

(Translated) It's less than 5 minutes walk from aldgate east station. It's been a while and it's very hip .. The room is too narrow. And the noise is loud at night .. (Earplugs are provided in the room) I slept very well because I was so tired. Recommended if you like a hip atmosphere. Netflix YouTube can see everything but there is no refrigerator and elevator. The breakfast is alright. The crews are very friendly :-)

(Translated) Impeccable treatment, typical but modern very good breakfasts, the small room but to get enough sleep, the bathroom lacks some privacy but in general the experience is great since the price has accompanied, I would repeat without a doubt
