Reviews of The Camel & Artichoke
E. D.
The C&A has very much become the local since moving to London.
Jackie is a legend, the other Staff are all delightful, the inside is warm and cosy, back garden is roomy — and now heated! — and the tunes are stellar.
They sorted out a staff evening for us at very short notice recently which was greatly appreciated (and a great night).
Big love to all involved!
A.
Whole bar managed by one lady so a little slow but service was good. Took us some time to get food but the veggie burger worth the wait and the best around! Chilled out individuals would love :)
S.
Cool pub tucked behind Waterloo station. Loads of screens for sport and decent sitting. Wide selection of drinks and standard pub grub. Would recommend.
M. C.
First visit today having passed it many times and glad we all had a good drink and a laugh. Great service from the one staff member on duty, well done to you and Happy Christmas 🤜🤛😄
J. S.
Great pub, great location & the hidden gem - 'the great outside space' ;0) The staff were friendly & helpful. We had a fab time & it was a lovely way to end my working experience in the Waterloo area. Thanks Annette from Joanne
J. W.
Great evening spent at this hidden gem of a pub near Waterloo station!
A large group of us enjoyed a tasty bbq cooked by Annette, washed down with pink bubbles and beer, along with a TV in the garden to watch the World Cup, what's not to like? We'll certainly be back, well done :-)
J. C.
Comfy, homely pub with friendly staff and hearty fold. Was very quiet on a Sunday afternoon so bagged the super comfy sofas.
Food and drink average price for the area but two words....curly fries lol.
Mix of tourists and locals with sports on the big screen.
J. F.
Decent pub. Clean and well run. Not tried the food.
G. C.
Nice pub in Lower Marsh, friendly staff, good range of beers and plenty of TV's to watch the sport
M. D.
Great pub food nice experience. With lots of friendly staff and customers. Would definitely visit again. Xxxxx
J. P.
Very nice pub good selection of beers great atmosphere
P. H.
a nice little pub with friendly staff, good food and a wide variety of beverages. There is a small outdoor area with tables at the rear if you prefer al fresco dining.
We dropped in to watch a Euro's football game being screened there...
Would certainly recommend..
T. W.
Absolutely 💯 lovely people and place to visit we will be back for sure happy new year guys
D. T.
Small lively pub with a courtyard garden, beer good and friendly staff. A good place to visit, particularly if you are following the football world cup!
J. M.
Great find with a nice beer garden with good choice of drinks
Had a couple probs on 1st visit with the app but was quickly sorted. Called in for drinks and food on a separate visit , burger for one the other had 3 small plates , great selection food/drink with really helpful & friendly staff. Recommend
P. C.
Nice pub with an interesting mix of clientele. Could be a better selection of beers.
D. H.
Probably the best pub withing spitting distance of Waterloo. Lost a bit of its character since the pretty recent refurbishment, but still a great pub. We'll priced for the area, although a little small
g. t.
Nice pub with great staff and good food with a really well thought out back garden
J. R.
Great clean bar with discount for NHS and blue light workers.
L. S.
Beer choice good, lite menu, but female toilet broken so all using one toilet and urinals in mens. Nice beer patio out back but I asked to order food early, they came a good 49 minutes late. Took the order, then brought out the food without any dips, which had been paid for and were obnoxious when asked to get them, saying the kitchen was closed. They SHOULD NOT have taken our orders! Which we would have been fine with. And don't come back with I don't understand its a pandemic you know. I'm a nurse.
l. s.
as always, great service, I am very pleased to be there. I would recommend this place to anyone.
S. W.
Enjoyed a couple of good pints here, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
G. F.
OK, but was much better prior to refurbishment; no much smaller, ground floor only (mini beergarden still there). Beer well kept but usual selection. Pricey but this is normal for that location. Don't expect anything from food. Good for after-work beer
C. F.
Lovely little pub near Waterloo station. The outside area is great for a sunny day and there is plenty of space. The service is usually great and really fast and the staff all very friendly. The food menu is full of British classics and does not disappoint.
L. C.
Best beef stew I have ever had! Chicken burger was superb and great cheesy garlic bread. Favourite thing about the pub is the location and name! Only downside was there only being waitress serve drinks, take orders and serve the food and for a bust Sunday she was rushed off her feet, she didn't get chance to give the tables a scrub between guests. But would definitely recommend!
S. 2.
Good looking place, clean, friendly service, great beer garden.
R. H.
A little off the beaten path but a little gem with decent outside space but no sun. Cosy upstairs area in winter. Decent selection of ales and lagers; reasonable wine list. Normally very proficient service. A bit transient being close to Waterloo station but more classy than the Hole in the Wall!!!!
s. c.
Great place for a pint and football close to London Bridge
J. S.
Good little drinking spot near Waterloo that isn't as busy as the normal Friday night fair. Downsides are that they have crammed in a few tables quite close to the loos so don't get stuck there and that some of the furniture feels a little like outside furniture, also my friend said the ladies was out of paper. Upsides are the small beer garden, the mellow atmosphere and the quick bar wait times :) can't attest to the food
F. O.
Awesome quiet pub which was showing the rugby. Great atmosphere and great staff :)
L. B.
Great pub, and not so noisy for the location. Interesting choice of beers. We came here as a small group and we enjoyed the evening with some nice beers. Looking forward to come back to try the food.
A. D.
Hidden gem.. Great beers at good prices and a cracking beer garden.
G. H.
Decent enough pub a five minute walk from Waterloo Station, with a big beer garden out the back. Long and narrow inside with a reasonable amount of different beers on offer, jukebox and sports on the telly. It's described as a gastropub - it isn't, although it sells pies and sausage rolls behind the ramp. There are better pubs in the area, but it's certainly not the worst.
If you're a sausage fan, it's not the Wurst.
T. v. C.
Nice, airy pub with plenty of seating, a great little garden out back, plenty of TVs for sport, and I've never found it full (although perhaps that's because I've only been at weekends?).
Staff: mixed but generally friendly.
Food: we've generally stuck to snacky pub fayre, like nachos and chips which were fine. A friend ordered the Wiener Schnitzel last weekend however, and it was so bad he had to return it. The staff handled the complaint reasonably.
Prices: not cheap, but then this is London.
A. E.
It's been newly refurbished but lacks character. Staff not so friendly, feels as if they don't want to be there.
T. D.
Nice staff, laid back atmosphere and really nice food. Although, not wheelchair friendly.
K. M.
Great little pub, nice beer garden and staff :)
M. B.
Nice Budvar beer
G. J.
Nice little place in Waterloo. Good for sport but also some nice outside space.
C. M.
Nice pub, it was quiet when I popped in for a bite to eat early before going to The Vault round the corner. Got busy later in the evening. Food was fairly standard pub food and good beer. Would definitely come back if going to The Vault again.
T.
Nice atmosphere, good food and good wine. We had a retirement party and they reserved us some tables and ordered in dry martini especially for the person leaving.
R. M.
A nice, small pub. Friendly and helpful staff, good service. Food looked OK. The good news for ale lovers is that they had three hand pumps, But, they ran out of ales on a Friday night!!!
C. P.
Love it. Its a propper old London pub.
Narrow, long all wooden and nice beers free house.
Also the Land lord is a lovely bloke.
Average london prices. Well worth a visit.
R. H.
Glad we found this place. Secluded beer garden, helpful lady behind the bar. Menu was small but everything looked amazing
C. D.
Good place to grab a bite to eat and a pint if you're visiting a nearby theatre, in an area refreshingly un-gentrified for central London, Lower Marsh. Generously sized fish and chips. And a nice little beer garden nestled in beside the railway arches.
S.
I thoroughly enjoyed their Sunday roast here. My husband had the roast pork and I had the roast beef. Both came with your typical sides - veggie, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The prices seemed very reasonable too! If you happen to go to Waterloo, I highly recommend this because it's a hidden gem.
C. G.
Mind the small step on the way into this field e establment. The serve a wide selection of on tap ales along with many bottled tipples.
The atmosphere was great here staff were friendly and courteous. The single toilet seemed to have a constant stream of guests occupying it.
M. O.
Pretty good for few drinks.
j. r.
Not too bad, bit small but they do have an outside area out the back.
NHS discount, but you will need to ask! Keep an eye on your bill as we had a few drinks orders that were wrong.
Staff not great.
J. G.
Chilled British pub in an up and coming quirky part of London. Fairly quiet on weekends if there's not events on at The Vaults so good for a catch-up with friends near Waterloo station.
M. W.
Open and large expanse of tamed green field. Any thing you wish you could in a green field this place can provide it. To the left hand corner of it is a large slightly weathered single storey building, the interior of it provides several rooms to meet various needs, including a large dance hall with raised podium, toilets and shower rooms, good bar and good selection if booze at reasonable prizes. The value is poorly signposted from the main road approach and the premises could do with refurbishment and investment to make it realise it's full potential.
M. B.
Neighbourhood pub with a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits, as well as friendly staff and a spacious beer garden.
P. M.
Gutted. This was my go to pub in London when on business, but they no longer do food. Upstairs has gone, even removed the staircase. Not sure what happened as food was fantastic. Still a good pint though.
M. M.
Really lovely little pub tucked up behind Waterloo station. Nice selection of beer which is very reasonably priced for central London, the burgers are pretty good too.
R. C.
Lovely beer garden. Lovely efficient surface. Calm, quite atmosphere in the middle of Waterloo
C. A.
Post lockdown drink ,typical London pub fair choice of beers
J. D.
Nice 2 floor typical pub. Friendly staff, good value for money of food and beers.
Try the Mexican burger with guacamole and culry fries :)
Perfect to chill with friends
P. y.
Busy atmosphere with efficient service at the bar, bit chilly with the back door opening and closing and some food off the menu was good. Don't get the nachos.
T. P.
A small pub with a large variety of beers, ales and lagers. A lovely landlady who let's you reserve seats for the football or rugby and you can bring your own food in.
N. D.
Local pub on 2 floors with decent selection of beers. Good menu available with mains and snacks available. Small outside space.
D. B.
Lovely friendly service, and nice beers
P. C.
Staff are absolutely lovely. Good drinks, nice beer garden, zero faults!
K. G.
Amazing pub, great food and lovely staff!
C. L.
Pleasant enough place, our party had quite mixed reviews, I thought it was ok, some of our party were quite disappointed, especially with their vegetarian meal, it didn't really look that pleasant...
A. G.
Nice pub between Waterloo station and Lambeth North station closed to Westminster bridge. They do NHS discount which is good if you're a health professional!
S. B.
Best beer garden in Waterloo! Lovely staff, great selection of drinks and a cosy unique atmosphere - highly recommend! :-)
A. D.
Nice pub. The area around the bar is quite narrow but it's a nice meeting place after workm
C. B.
Not much to set it apart but if you want a quiet pub on a Saturday night...well you couldn't get much quieter! It suited our purpose fine.
S. J.
Usually places to sit and good beer garden. Sometimes music can be too loud and beer is not the best. Other then that pretty good.
L. G.
Was better before the refit. Little courtyard garden out the back is good. A better choice compared to the other pubs by Waterloo Station.
T. P.
Great little pub, quiet on weekend daytimes, busy in the week after work. No longer do food but great atmosphere and staff
S. S.
Nice pub. Decent food. Doesn't get overly busy so can get to the bar fairly quickly.
D. M.
Good location close to Waterloo, shows major sport, food available also small patio beer garden to rear, sensible prices compared to other pubs in the area
G. P.
Lovely pub, good beers and great shady beer garden in the heat. A hidden gem near Waterloo
T. S.
Quirky little sports bar with some outside seating out the back. However during our visit the TV's kept going off and talking to a local, it's a common problem.
R. H.
Nice, friendly bar with good selection of ale. Beer garden is a great feature.
A. H.
Nice pub for a lunch time pint and meal. There's a good choice of beers and the food is good quality and well priced.

Lost a bit of atmosphere with the refurb and loss of upstairs, also not serving food anymore. Other than that it's ok with a decent outdoor space
S. R. A.

Lovely little pub. Beer garden at the back is lovely on a warm day. I recommend their chicken burger (they do have a vegetarian and vegan option available).

(Translated) The bar, although it does not have a wide variety of beers, the ones it does have are interesting. The drink options are rather limited.
It is a good place to go in a group to have beers and have a good time.
The food is fine although it is not a place to go to dinner (it is uncomfortable to eat on the armchairs and the high tables have little space to put two plates and two drinks, it is only comfortable on the normal tables but they are next to the bathroom).
They have more space outside.
