Reviews of The Capitol - JD Wetherspoon
A. B.
Meals for under a tenner with a drink can’t complain. The building is a historic cinema house and still retains the ‘galleries’ of seats and the entry box office. Leanne was very helpful and the food is better than expected - think of 4 star cafe style food hot and very edible.
B. G.
Very clean, spacious in an old bingo hall, probably some sort of cinema or music hall in its previous life.
Food was excellent, only downside, there isn't much parking in the surrounding streets.
C. W.
Brilliant. 3 meals, 2 pints, and a mug of tea for under £18.00. What's not to like.
The beer was good, tea was good, And food excellent.
S. B.
This is the most stunning Weatherspoons you will ever visit. Words don't do it justice but the old theatre is an incredible venue to have a few drinks in. The rest is just standard Weatherspoons, food, drinks, service etc, you know what you're getting.
B. D.
Beautiful Art Deco cinema building from thirties hosting spacious Wetherspoons pub. Worth visiting!
A. M.
Impressive big restored cinema. Usual great Wetherspoons value. Nice range of cask ales. However. Not sure if there was an issue with the heating but it was really cold which made our visit uncomfortable.
D. B.
Pretty quiet and friendly atmosphere. Great for families. Very well priced too and never have to wait long for food or drinks ordered via the app.
A. m.
The food was good but the table app didn't work had to go and order at the bar but i would definitely go again
M. R.
It is very spacious and has everything you expect from a Wetherspoon pub. Might visit here again in the future.
C. F.
A converted theatre carefully restored to retain some original features. Conveniently suited near Forest Hill train station and good public transport links. Parking is restricted in front of the building as it on a red line route. However there is ample parking behind Sainsburys Store.
There are 2 seating levels with an outside garden area prefect in the summer. There are large round tables which was great as we were a group of 8 adults.
They served classic pub menus with specific nights like Curry Nights. There is no loud music so its a great spot for peace and quiet. The atmosphere was relaxing with the feeling of space in that you are not sitting on top of each other. The decorations and high ceilings and pictures on the walls add to the ambiance. Free WiFi is also available.
There is a family seating area at the front of the building. The food is good value for money. I certainly will visit again.
E. ..
The chain made a mark in South London having the biggest hall in the area turned to simple drinking freedom. No need for more than the classic menu of for a decent time with a friend who like that kind of thing.
I. C.
The space is amazing, unfortunately Wetherspoons doesn't do it justice by not maintaining it... Love that they do a film night here to keep in with the interior and former glory. We had a lovely vegan breakfast here and a vegan burger, which was a little on the dry side. Still nice to have the option.
N. E.
Great Wetherspoons, with a nice atmosphere and nicely spaced out. Good food and friendly staff.
I. C.
I was so happy I found this place. A former art deco cinema turned into a pub. I was so hooked I didn't even notice how my teriyaki noodles disappeared from my plate :) you have to see this place! I would charge people just for entering that's how amazing it looks. 😍
S. H.
Good value for a family meal and drinks
Staff are very friendly and helpful
B. C.
A nice wetherspoons.. great atmosphere and decorative set up , kinda gave off Opera hall vibes.. food was tasty
M. G.
I always enjoy my time at Capitol Wetherspoon, in Forest Hill. Very helpful staff; very affordable food; varied menu; delicious, high quality food and drinks. I like this place.
R. B.
Good basic food. No nonsense. Cheap booze.
Just what you sometimes need. No fuss.
Not overcrowded. Central location.
R. R.
One of the best pub interiors in London, in my opinion. Downright palacial with a large selection of beverages at bargain prices.
S. S.
Good value for money. Tasty food although portion sizes could be bigger.
M.
The worst steak I have ever had but that's my fault! Of course pub steak wouldn't be anything but. Otherwise I love the capitol
J. T.
Staff are incredibly friendly and very efficient. They have done a remarkable job during these difficult and challenging times. Wetherspoon need to add a tip option to their app
c. o.
Very nice building, felt very clean which isn't always the way for a weatherspoons
M. C.
Amazing location, the staff was very nice, giving us more detailes about the arhitecture of the place, very nice and polite old guy! Everything it s very cheap! You just wanna seat there with a coffe and read a book!
L. B.
Very nice, bar staff really patient with the tricky customers as well. Brave.
b.
For a Wetherspoon's it's surprisingly authentic- a little run down but that adds to the atmosphere. The outdoor area is huge with plenty of seating. Staff are friendly and I got a pint for £1.99! Where else in London can you find that?!
m. b.
Brilliant place to have a quiet night out with friends staff pleasant and cheerful
C. T.
Large place. Not enough power sockets to use laptop. Service was good.
G. L.
Would have given 5* but the food selection was very limited and I went on Friday afternoon. Otherwise the food was delicious 😋
M. L.
Calm, relaxed. Good prices for London, good to watch the rugby, child friendly, locals at others all welcome, plus good coffee!
K. S.
Good for curry on a Thursday and Fish and Chips on Friday. Cheap as hell and you don't have to talk to anyone just order via phone. There's an outside area at back and side.
P. P.
Great Ales and food prices. You can eat and have a drink here for less then 7 pounds.
It also has free wi-fi and refill coffee, has enough space to be confortable using the laptop during the day.
M. W.
Beautiful surroundings but no atmosphere
p. c.
Plenty of space for social distancing. Their app play ed up when trying to order from their app only section of the pub. Otherwise, service of both food & drink very prompt. Be Happy to revisit it .
L. P.
Went here for breakfast with a friend. This is my local wetherspoon and some of their pubs do get some poor reviews..but can say this one is pretty good and the staff as always give a good service...Will revisit soon...
D. H.
Bit shabby but it's old, doesn't take away from that initial "wow" factor. Lovely space and good drinks selection.
S. G.
My regular and go-to when in the area. Cheap and cheerful food and drink.
D. M.
Very typical Wetherspoons, low prices & good food, exactly what I expected in a former cinema
C.
Theatre that has been converted into a Spoons. Rather cute
A. R.
I had a lovely experience, the service was amazing! Big big shout out to Karen and Thomas who made Night very special. Karen honestly you are a super star! Ladies and gentlemen if you ever visit the capitol ask for KAREN !
P. L.
There are four 'spoons nearer home but this one's worth the trip. The Goff's Black Knight is the best beer I've had in a 'spoon this year.
A. P.
Great Spoons! It's an impressive building, fast service with the option to order on the app. I came to try the new vegan chocolate caramel tart at about 10:30pm after the overpriced place I'd been for dinner didn't have a vegan dessert option. It was delicious!
L. H.
Very well decorated weatherspoons. Lots of tables and very quick service
F. P.
Went on Friday night, it was very busy and at full COVID capacity. It felt very safe - the distance between the tables as well as the screens were adequate protection. We could order from the app too so no need to queue.
All our rounds came very quickly and the service was excellent despite them being full!
M. P.
Unusual surroundings being a former cinema but beautiful features. Not much atmosphere and lighting dull.
Steak had an unusual seasoning so different from other Wethersoons.
D. P.
Love this pub. Large on the inside, real spacious as it's a former theatre & cinema from days gone. The upper seating area from the old theatre/cinema days are still visible but not in use, but the bar area sits just in front of the old stage and they have kept the decor from the period. They have kept the old kiosk where you would get your tickets to watch a play or a film too, it's still in the same location just as you come through the front entrance. Plenty of seating and tables are available, usual Wetherspoons prices on food & drink as well as table service. Polite staff, clean toilets, a fair sized outdoors area attached to the side of the pub for smoking/drinking/eating. Fruit machines and large screen and pull down TVs for terrestrial sport, and they sometimes do film nights. Busy on a fri/sat, but nice n casual during the week and on a Sunday. Overall, it's one of the better Spoons in London with a good mix of old, young and everything in between and a boozer that I frequent a lot.
N. D.
Food is what you would expect, the new waitress was nice and friendly however one more experienced waitress was having a terrible attitude
A. L.
One of the more interesting Wetherspoons, being a converted cinema, with many of its original features intact. Real Ale was in excellent condition when I visited.
J. R.
Good food as usual, but the bar staff need to listen more to the customers, and actually put on the bill what you ordered,, and the waiters and waitresses need to bring out with the food, knives and forks. They are pretty important you know!! Nice surroundings in an old cinema, glad that wetherspoons keep the old features, it makes the place seem really homely
P. B.
Not a bad Spoons, but you do get a whiff of the local drains! However, the food was good and the staff were great. But they did not have a full menu available! But it just didn't feel the cleanest of pubs. It's large inside and you do need to transverse several steps to get into the main arena. Large sports screens are available should you wish to watch some rugby and have a few pints. I think the building is reminiscent of an old theatre or cinema. It's ok to stop off for a couple of pints when passing through the area.
M. M.
Meal was great and reasonably priced. Prices include a drink. I had a steak. It was thin but not over cooked. It was really good with the mango chutney. My wife had a burger. For all that we got it was one of the best meals we had in over 2 weeks in London and affordable.
C. H.
I had a really nice experience today. Me and my friends went out for an early afternoon session at the local pub (here) and Tara (the young lady with piercings and long pony) was very friendly and helpful. She chatted to us as she brough drinks and made a friendly and cheerful environment. Tara deserves recognition and made this visit from spoons standard to spoons amazing.
J. D.
It's a very nice and open space with it being an old cinema, there isn't a harsh echo in the room from all the conversations either. The bar staff are very friendly, even when taking up bundles of £1 coins from the fruit machine!
The food was well cooked and very nice too
K. E.
Nice pub, great atmosphere, app worked like a dream no need to go to the bar. Staff friendly and attentive to the young child in our party. Food just as expected from a wetherspoons, tasty and good value for money.A great first visit here would definitely come again.
A. W.
Amazing building good choice of real ales and very low prices. No need to say more really.
S. L.
As usual, always good value in good venues.
M. G.
As Weatherspoons go, this is a favourite. It could do with a some redecoration. Staff are hard working and grabbing a pint is always quick. It never seems to feel busy even at the weekend. They do good sirloin steaks. You just cannot beat the price.
S. L.
Its Wetherspoons cheap, cheerful and food quality is on the up. Staff really friendly and polite. Never had a bad experience in the pub over the years. But staff could get rid of the groups of youngsters that hang around just on the inside who arnt buying in there just a place to mess about in. You loose a star for that
D. N. T.
Very friendly, quick service, reasonable prices, pleasant embience. All good. Thank you.
P. A.
As it was Sunday, it was a bit busy, mainly with families eating in the family area. The pub is a converted art deco cinema. I have mainly been there occasionally in the afternoons and found the Capitol a relaxing place to have a drink whilst reading my newspaper, or having a meal. I found the all place and facilities cleaned to a very good standard and staff very friendly. My only negative comment is that it could do with more bar staff, but perhaps my observation has got to do with the fact that I normally visit in mid afternoon on week days. Nevertheless, I like the surroundings of the old cinema and relaxed atmosphere.
R. C.
Had scampi for lunch breadcrumbs very dark possibly fresh oil needed
J. R.
It's always nice there, good atmosphere and good food, great service.
S. B.
You can’t really fault it- it’s a cheap and cheerful pub , with that wholesome pub feel , well actually scrap that- for a spoons , the location and interior are stunning ! It’s an old theatre, so the space is a beaut! Always had great customer service with a smile and the food is fairly decent! What more could you want for a cheeky weatherspoons outing !
O. M.
Now looking a bit sad these days - check out the carpet. But breakfast is great value and the hot chocolate is fab and service is usually very friendly. I often have lunch here and there are so many options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Drinks are good value too. This pub has a very loyal clientele of old-time locals and students rather than the often annoying crowd gentrification has brought to the area, at least during the day. A former cinema, there are films showing on Wednesdays so please pop in to check what's on.
H. W.
Nice looking old style theatre inside, and relatively good service. Not many large tables, and those available not quickly cleaned from empty plates and glasses.
Food cheap and cheerful as with most Weatherspoons.
T. J.
Some amazing staff n customer services especially the young ones thanks for an amazing service even my dad said it was a good day out staff had smiles n really were courteous
M. D.
I absolutely love this place! The drinks and food are reasonably priced (like you'd expect from a Wetherspoons). There is a huge selection of beers on tap. The food is tasty and good portion sizes. They recently changed the recipe for their nachos and the new ones are SO MUCH better. The bathrooms are large and mostly clean. Lots of stalls.
S. L.
It's a old theatre and a cinema and a bingo hall great architect its now a pub with 2 dart board
M. B.
The best Blade Runner Muriel is at this venue ... Worth the visit to see this alone - though wish the upper deck could be opened up ...
G. C.
Good for a cheap weekday drink but avoid ordering food in this place. Staff regularly get orders wrong, and I often have to complain more than once before I even receive anything edible from the kitchen.
Not to mention the poor attitude of some of the staff here and even management don't enforce the law when it comes to children in this pub.
But as I say, if you're looking for a cheap drink, you can't go wrong, but don't expect anything more than that.
C. G. D. S.
Great use of a large open space with many tables ideal for large groups, a quieter family area and some booths. Excellent craft beer selection and you can't go wrong with a beer and burger. This pub used to be a theater and makes great use if the décor.
a. w.
Far too bigger venue for my liking..felt cold..flooring perhaps in need of replacing, felt sticky under foot at times and the smell of old lager seem to over whelm me.But! great service..great prices and friendly.
W. M.
I don't normally like weatherspoons but this one was surprisingly nice, the atmosphere was great, staff were friendly and the food came relatively quick.
Would definitely come here again
P. L. R.
Good solid town centre Wetherspoons in Forest Hill. Impressive art deco building.
E. B.
The Capitol surely is one of the greatest places I've visited in London. They have got delicious meals and excellent prices. The place is huge and you can have unlimited hot drinks. You just need to put some music.
p. a.
Love this place, no music but a lot of character
P. D.
It's a busy pub with a friendly atmosphere and some large tables with comfortable seats. And the staff were always very helpful - this is based on experience before the COVID-19 Lock-down.
C. A.
Whilst you could tell that the staff were trying their best to keep up, the place is quite large for only 3 staff to handle. Regardless, the place has a great feel, mostly due to it being a cinema previously. Would say to the management if they were reading to get another hand or two to clean the tables and remove the glasses.
D. H.
It's a weather spoons. Drinks are cheap and there's a wide choice. Food is cheap and usually good. What really stands out for me is the sheer size and room. Great for large groups of mates looking for a place to meet and drink.
P. A.
Amazing atmosphere of an old cinema, great food and a good beer selection.
D. V.
My favourite pub in Forest Hill but as a massive downside, they dont allow dogs even in the garden
K.
I had so much to say in commemoration of the WTC disaster but my girlfriend told me say "nice pub" instead.
D. F.
Former cinema. So as you can imagine very spacious. Much of the original interior survives.
A. N.
Nice place to take family. Nice coffee and good service.
M. R.
Usual weatherspoons. Located in an old theatre with high ceilings and a balcony that can't be accessed - shame. Can't beat the 10.99 bottle of prosecco and other cheap drinks. The place could benefit from some music to boost the atmosphere. A good outside space for summer days. Next time I'll try the app that delivers food and drinks to your table.
S. M.
This was my first visit here and I was surprised to find wonderful art- deco features throughout! It reminded me of a scene from Titanic or The Shining! Next time I will definitely ask for a tour. ( you can request one) They also hold movie 🎥 nights on Wednesdays.
The food was great and the staff were friendly and took time to answer my questions about the building.
G. G.
Nice place to eat with friendly staff
S. H.
This is the kind of pub you want if you are looking for cheap drinks, cheap food (don't expect anything out of the ordinary on the menu) and a calm but active atmosphere. Dare I say, it is a typical Wetherspoons. They sell a good range of cocktails here and have lots of seating
D. R.
Pleasant surroundings, converted old cinema with lots of architectural features. Polite staff, served quickly. Extraordinary cheaply priced decent beer.
J. O.
Good prices on food and drink. The actual venue could do with a pretty deep clean though. Toilets were just a wash of urine and I'm pretty sure I picked up fleas...
T. M.
Great place . Very cheap.
L. M.
Still open, still selling beer and food. Local rumour has been that the Capitol is closing down, for about the last three years. It seemed in fine form when we visited recently, with a good range of real ales available. We were there on a busy evening this time, and the place was relatively full for such an enormous space, but we still found a table. It sometimes feels a little bleak early in the midweek, but I don't see signs of a decline in popularity.
P. M.
It's a Wetherspoons and there's the same good and drink add all the others. It wasn't that clean, the menus were dirty, the men's toilets stank.
Service was fine, food good value.
Free WiFi. Free parking within five minutes walk behind the nearby Sainsbury's.
A. S.
The ambience is a bit dreary, the restrooms can be filthy at times and the food is at best average (and at worst terrible), but if you're looking for a pub with extremely affordable drinks, this is the place to go. With those prices, you won't even realise you're in london. The staff are quite friendly and warm as well.
P. P. P.
First time visit to the Capitol and I was not disappointed. Entering this vast cavern of space is a delight. Like all Wetherspoons - is cheap and cheerful. We had lambshank for dinner which was served hot and very tasty. Staff are friendly and helpful. The very high ceiling helps dissipate the noise so can highly recommend.
C. R.
This place is another Wetherspoons but in a theatre which is amazing!
L.
This Wetherspoon is really lovely. It’s an old theatre so it’s nice and open with lots of space and it looks visually stunning. I’ve been here twice now and my food/drinks have arrived in a reasonable time with no issues.
S. P.
Very cool Spoons in a former theatre. Unfortunately you can't sit in the dress circle as you sup from your pitcher of Cheeky V, instead, it looks over the large main area of the pub. There are lots of big screens and one massive one for watching sport.
There's also a really creepy mannequin masquerading as a ticket taker as you enter. Freaks me out every time.
C. L.
Drink is cheaper than most weatherspoon. Staff vary, some are very good.
They have a projector for big sports games, and a couple of darts boards.
Good range of drinks.
Real ale fans, members of CAmRA will like, good turnover keeps them fresh.
They could do with better management of what types, i.e. not 5 dark and no light ales. This however happens higher up and us out of their hands.
R. J.
A very grand Witherspoon, well spaced out
S.
An old converted cinema that is now a Weatgerspoons. Absolutely massive, and cheap
G. G.
Better food than your average Wetherspoons which was a pleasant surprise. The setting is also superb, located within an old picturehouse. Plenty of space and friendly staff; one of the good ones.
M. C.
Glorious building and probably worth booking a tour, some of the bar staff seem reluctant to leave the tills. Good choice of cask beers and they offer tasting so just say I would like to try..
w. e.
Whetherspoon, meals are what it says on the tin but the staff were very helpful and polite.
Thumps up!!
d. f.
Unique 30s cinema with all original interior including seats in upper circle.
Food and service good. I recommend the steak Tuesdays. Friendly staff and fast service.
A beautiful historic building put to good use.
L. R.
My friends an I visit here very regular the prices are great for food and drinks. The atmosphere is warm and family friendly. They have a different Daily Special Steak Tuesdays is my Fav of the week.
s. a.
Like the pub but it is very large with a lot of unused space. Wetherspoons toilets are usually a really unusual experience BUT these are dirty, smelly unlit in places and is not a nice area to visit. No it's not just happened these have been in this state for years.
S. W.
Nice and comfortable and spacious with just the right amount of people when we went in.If i could make a point, they had the flags of Ireland,Scotland, and wales on show, was it for the Olympics,it was my first time in there. But the English flag looked hidden. Why ?
S. H.
One of the best atmospheres in a wetherspoons in London. The venue is an old theatre, where the stage has been transformed into a large bar that serves you within minutes. Security stops any trouble makers or underage people getting in. 2 minute walk from forest hill station, for the overground or southern line. Above average food and all served to your table. Close landmarks include the horniman museum. Overall a cheap and lively pub. Busy throughout the week and especially busy on Fridays providing a good night.
S. G.
Beer for £2.50 - wow! The building itself is spectacular; a former "Picturehouse" style cinema. It's not exactly a quaint country pub, but nonetheless serves an important need.
M.
The place is nice with an unusual design but the members of staff are not friendly.
T. R.
Good service very busy Fridays & Saturdays so use app for fast service as long ques and you wont lose your table any other time fast to go to bar friendly staff
E. A.
Pub was class, didnt even ID me. Watched a guy across the street try and rob a shop and fail miserably it were class
A. N.
I'm whetherspoon customer from quite a while and i like their menu for the food quality and price though I'm a chef and i know a bit how to judge foods. I went to Capitol on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite full, about the food no complaints whatsoever that was nicely done. The acoustic atthat Old theatre makes u feel comfortable even when is full of people talking. But when i first came in and i was looking for a clean table to sit there was none but there was feel table available to suit but dirty. So we sat in a dirty table with feel empty pint glasses and coffee mugs. We had all meal in there and no waiter could move that. That is only my concern..Thanks
E. T.
Tara (girl with long pony, piercings) is amazing. So kind and wonderful bringing our drinks. Deserves recognition. A 100% reason to revisit.
S. B.
Pretty standard pub. Decor not great. Food is ok, good value for money. Service could be better... in this case, u get what you pay for.
S. C.
I do love a good Spoons and this is the most interesting ones to drink in. Service is always good and there's table service too. Food is exactly what you would expect. I'll keep going back.
J. P.
Weatherspoons quality, i.e low - but consequently low prices AND in this beautiful spacious setting. Dirty tables but so many you'll find a clean one and if you choose carefully find a decent drink too.
P. D.
Great prices as always and a decent range of spirits but not one of Wetherspoon's more pleasant interiors. This old cinema could be so much more welcoming with more inventive seating and decor (even The Coronet in Holloway Road is better laid out). ALSO! There has a very odd central queueing system developed here - like you're waiting in the post office. It's horrible, dehumanising and shouldn't be happening in a pub. I questioned it with staff and they said they liked it as it stops arguments. The manager needs to explain to them (and almost every undertrained bar person in England) that part of the ruddy job is to know who's next in the queue.
M. W.
Friendly, helpful staff. Regulars that have there set places. Generally gud atmosphere, gud food, nice an open, lots of space is gud. All enjoy the food, an never miss breakfast on a Sunday...
R. D.
This is a large wetherspoons public house housed in a former art deco cinema. It is very striking and spacious inside. A good place to go for a wide variety of drinks and relatively inexpensive food.
C. M.
Staff could do with a hell of a lot more enthusiasm, food is ok and clientele are weird.
L.
One of the best Wetherspoons I've been to as the building used to be a theatre. Standard Spoons' comforts included with plenty of space and interesting decor to look at. (From a big Spoons fan).
J. P.
Unique grand old interior. Great for watching sports events. And you can’t beat Wetherspoons prices plus ordering via their app. But it isn’t upmarket by any means.
A. j.
The team are great , Manager was very hard working till closing time ( Young woman blonde tints). Young jamaican woman was very quick at serving and could pour a good guiness. Only.one fault ......... PLEASS CLEAN THE TABLES! To many fruit flys .
S. J.
Ten out of ten, bar staff are jokes, makes my night every time, we stan big time. Tom is great. We love spoons.
A.
What a venue, it's like stepping back in time. The venue itself is pretty amazing but add in the great beers good food fun staff.... you have the perfect combination
C. G.
Almost everything on the food menu was out of stock and the food that did come out was over cooked. Marked 3 stars as this is not a regular occurrence and the staff are always very nice.
D. J.
This place is amazing , beautiful building, friendly staff and great beers and food. Very affordable as it is weatherspoons. And has a back yard to smoke in.
F. M.
Unique building with friendly staff but not very well maintained. Tables always dirty, only reason to come here is the cheap drinks.
C. V.
I liked the burgers but the vegan pizza was not as good as I thought its be . It only had veggies and the crust was thin,at least they could have add more things on the vegan pizza in order for customers that are not vegan also enjoy of it.
S. C.
A lovely quiet little Wetherspoons pub situated within Forest Hill unusual scenery within as it would appear this particular pub used to be a theatre many years ago which now has been converted into a pub but still has the interior layout as though it was a theatre
J. C.
Truly excellent venue. Can be a bit draughty by the front door. Good food&Abbot ale. Marvellous Art Deco preservation!
M. S.
Forest Hill's community centre. Lovely bar staff who really seem to care about the welfare of their local regulars. Spectacular Art Deco building steeped in history. What a gem.
J. L.
Great staff and a great local.
R. M.
It's a Wetherspoons. Therefore very cheap. Excellent selection of beer. No atmosphere. The building is fantastic. Service was good, food was fine.
C. W.
Lovely art deco cinema converted into a wetherspoons pub. Spacious and tables set far from each other. High cinema ceilings means it's not noisy like other regular wetherspoons.
W. J.
Ok place go there now and again
M. V.
Nice prices, silence,good survice
P. C.
This gets a 3/5 because the men’s toilets smell of stale piss! It’s really hard to stomach, it’s awful, fills you with dread. The pub itself is great inside, very decorative.
J. F.
The Capitol is an unusual place for a pub but it makes it interesting.
It is a little run down but as it's a Weatherspoon the prices are good. The food is good value & ok
L. C.
This amazing converted art-deco style cinema is a perfect venue for something, but the current layout is lacking. Drinks are cheap and good, but the food is somewhat lacking.
w.
Spectacular spoons in an old cinema. Food is better than the usual wetherspoons standard but it still ticks the wetherspoons boxes. A cheap pint and a basic affordable meal.
J. L.
I only went there for lunch on a Sunday but:
The food was good however there was no Sunday roast.
The place seemed rather run down.
The staff could have been more cheerful.
E. H.
Cheap and (relatively) cheerful. Huge space, plenty of room, quick service and the bar and a great selection of drinks. I tend to pop in whenever I'm back in Forest Hill.
D. D.
Went with some people from a funeral. Ordered food sat outside it was nice
O. C.
It's not your run of the mill Wetherspoons. Based in a grade 2 listed cinema it has the usual Wetherspoons' offer, but includes friendly, hard working staff. They tried to sell it last year but it won a reprieve in January. Tim Martin you were a fool to even contemplate offloading it in the first place. Give everyone who works there a raise for the insecurity you caused.
D. L.
Beautiful art deco cinema converted to a pub
A. H.
Great customer service, friendly smile goes a long way. Definitely recommend and the food was delish!
R. C.
Came here for lunch on the way to the trip to the Horniman museum. It's an old cinema which has been given the Whetherspoons touch. Precisely what you would expect from the franchise. Good beer and cheap food.
J.
Beautiful building. Pleasant, helpful people behind the bar and small space outside that catches the early afternoon sun. Nice place to chill out with a beer.
K. L.
A pub in an old theatre. Big vaulted ceilings. Typical wetherspoons menu and prices but different than your typical pub. There's a little area where you can sit outside as well.
M. I.
They serve my favorite steaks and Guinness. Used to watch Rugby World Cup 2011 there early in the mornings. Always recommend my friends visit this place.
C. B.
Apparently this venue returns a loss to Wetherspoons so thank goodness they continue to operate it, preserving this wonderful old building and providing good service, and food and drink at very reasonable prices.
A.
Arite, simple system, they give more that £10 discount per person if you just order a lot of food
D. W.
Very busy only three staff on tables full of plates etc. But atmosphere was great good for people watching staff friendly food good pub grub husband had the special steak very good x
M. D.
Excellent pub, an old cinema conversion but the balcony is wasted space. Garden's a bit narrow and shaded but excellent value as usual with JDW.
N. J.
Large pub that was once a cinema and retains the same layout. Nice seating area outside. Usual prices and food for a Wetherspoons pub.
J. C.
It's an interesting place, not much atmosphere but decent prices ('spoons innit)
J. P.
Lovely history behind this old converted cinema great place for a local drink I would say it's one of the more interesting wetherspoons to visit.
V. H.
Great for Sunday lunch with the kids as it's huge, cheap, and you know what you're getting. Not top quality food obvs being wetherspoons but fine with kids.
N.
Great table service. They sometimes tell you to get stuff from te bar when they don't want to bring it. Like an extra glass or straws
M. B.
Been going here since a teen with fake ID , lovely decor inside it’s like taking a step back into the 1930s
Reminds me of Broadwalk empire slighty
Foods not bad can do with a slight improvement and more meal deals
G. K.
Great place to go for cheap drinks and food but sometimes the food can come out amazing and taste nice while as others it can come out dry and lacking in portion size
J. C.
Ok cheap food, great beers, lovely building. It could do with refurbing the beer garden does what wetherspoon does well. We go mostly as a family weekend lunchtimes.
l. x.
This is a great place for the whole family. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is good and the drinks are cheap. I would recommend xlxl
M. M.
Warm welcome. Nice good evening greeting.
Smiles from the bar staff.
Delicious wine at excellent price😀😀😀
M. W.
Staff are friendly and prices are great but it really is very shabby and the gents toilets need condemning! Bit of a shame as it's am impressive space.
F. L.
I come here at least once a month. Good food. And good atmosphere. I mostly use Witherspoon bar's. For this reason.
D. F.
Great place for a cheap drink for any age been here with mates my own age and some almost 10 years older but it’s always a good atmosphere
A. C.
Slightly grubby Wetherspoons, feeling a little neglected by the chain. Staff do what they can. Standard 'Spoons fayre, open late and good beer.
D. R.
It's not the finest spoons in the world and they forgot the salad with my lasagne, but the location in the old cinema is stunning and that's the reason i've been back twice already!
M. C.
Always cheap and cheerful
E. B.
Standard Wetherspoons menu set in an old theatre which is quite cool. Service isn't always great and there can be long waits at the bar.
L. W.
Loved the interior but the service was not good! They forgot to process our order so we were waiting over 40 + mins for food that was never ordered in the first place!!
H. C.
Great building and food
g.
Interesting building, an old movie house. food is nothing special. Beer selection is good. Unpretentious and welcoming.
l. m.
Lovely place only downside is the doors are open which makes you cold
J. G.
Delicious food for cheap prices. The cookie dough dessert is to die for. Great ambiance!
J. S.
Wetherspoons in an old cinema. Family seating area. Plenty of space. Food always good here.
M. H.
GOOD FOOD. PLENTY OF ROOM. WAS ONE OF THE BEST CINEMA'S IN SOUTH LONDON. 50 YEARS AGO. I SHOULD KNOW I WAS THERE. MEMORIES.
V. F.
friendly staff. nice atmosphere and a very good food and drinks menu
e. p.
Fine for WiFi and refills on coffee very generous lots of room cheaper than most .
P. S.
One of the most unique Wetherspoons I've been in, made in an old theatre. Typical Wetherspoons beer selection, cheap food.
A. B.
Fabulous atmosphere. Great food and drinks. Reasonable prices. Good customer service.
M. M.
Good breakfast but some of the staff not wearing masks.
R. N.
Old cinema converted into a Wetherspoons- £1.99 for good quality beers, exceptional value for this area
T. B.
Exactly what you'd expect.
j. j.
Awesome place. I love the environment. Nice weatherspoons. Best location for family restaurant and a beer.
J. I.
Very good service and fantastic decor.
c. s.
Food was okay, Wetherspoons quality. what really stood out was the atmosphere, decor and customer service.
N. R.
Though had a dirty glass, the food and drinks were fine, and the guy who brought our food out was hilarious, please promote him.
S. B.
Friendly, bar staff, good atmosphere, an injoyabe experience on a driday evening after work.
Impressive building and decor.
A. M.
Lovely pub, great selection of food and drink, good prices. One of London's best pubs.
J. H.
Lovely pub, which was once a theatre
L. S.
Brilliant..where else can you get ( a very friendly) Mr Bean to serve you.It was an Ex theatre, it's obviously got theatrical overtones 😀
P. M.
It delivers what it says on the can. Service is slow but as HQ understaff it. Tim Martin needs his holidays
L. K.
One of the only places in forest hill that you'll find young and old, and people of backgrounds mixing on a Friday night. Like the table service when you order from the app too!!
J. B.
Lovely pub, just a shame my lunch was not upto par
J. J.
It's a wetherspoons. It's pretty good, amazing building, comfy. It's sometimes a little dirty, and occasionally a few belligerent old drunks, but it's alright.
M. D. P.
Staff are always friendly and it's a comfy pub with lovely art deco features you can relax in.
J.
Decent place, nice history. Just very open and could do with a bit more to the place as it's a big building
M. D.
Beautiful building. Their food specials are cheap for people on a budget and I didn't have to wait very long
N. N.
Lovley inside, shows movies every so often. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet during the week but picks up on the weekend
D. D.
Weatherspoon pub that use to be a cinema beautiful interior and seating outside good served till 11pm very friendly clientle.
S. S.
Friendly staff, nice food, building used to be a cinema hall so nice and spacious with high ceilings
S. S.
Reasonable and inexpensive food and drink in an amazing converted art deco cinema which, unfortunately, is starting to look a little worn around the edges
J. A.
Cheap food, good range of beer and nice decor. Does the job and I like the old theatre interior design.
S. S.
Good old Spoons. Bottle of Pinot under a tenner, happy staff and lovely space.

M. A.
Very good food and a great atmosphere (there was a theatre here before).
J. S.
Cheap and cheerful but a bit of a dive. There's a cobweb above the bar (top right) that's been growing for over 2 years!
C. V.
Good food prices, never usually too busy, good service
C. C.
Good food, easy service and a large amount of seats
N. H.
A very interesting building but the pub has no atmosphere.
