T.The guy with the “crazy shirt” was a credit to this place. Friendly, accommodating, smiling and always happy to help. Food was overpriced for what it was; hummus and bloomer was dry, loaded fries were okay. Burger doesn’t come with chips/fries, so expect to pay £14+ for burger + fries. Good atmosphere; would return for drinks but based on this experience wouldn’t return for food.
S. D.Staff were very accommodating when I asked for a specific mocktail they don't usually offer (they do have non-alcohol beers etc though).They had no problem with whipping it up for me which is really sweet as I was driving and just wanted a cute cocktail rather than coca cola all night 😂.
Wish I hadn't eaten before going out because the food looked great, will definitely be returning to try the food.
In all had a great night, staff waiting on us where friendly and had a good sense of humour.
I'm not the kind of person that tends to take pictures on a night out, but couldn't resist one of the loos, they were just cute!🤣

A.The most gorgeous little pub terrace! The food was DELICIOUS. My boyfriend got the pork and I got the beef - both out of this world. The staff was incredibly lovely and friendly. Overall a great night.

The pork belly was cooked to perfection. We were really pleased to see so many vegan/veggie options on the menu and wouldn’t have chosen this pub had there not been this choice as one of our party is a veggie - she thoroughly enjoyed the veggie skewers! Would definitely recommend for food and for cocktails.
L. C.This is a mainstay pub in the area that provides a welcoming atmosphere. The venue is closed inside, which makes it intimate in its setting. The outdoor setting in the entrance and on the rooftop provides a different atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive. It attracts a young crowd looking to socialise. There are TVs for watching sport, but depending on the event it seems out of place. The toilet facilities are kept reasonably clean. There is a good variety of drinks on offer. The cocktails are quite sharp and not as flavoursome as other venues. The food is great and perfect for sharing. A wonderful pub and comes highly recommended.

The bathroom wasn't great. One stall and it was broken so it was lucky I didn't need it. The bathrooms also have a monopoly theme which I didn't quite get. Is it because Angel Islington is on the monopoly board? The pub's called The Castle, though. Maybe I'm missing something.

r. b.We came for lunch as a party 8. 4 kids and 4 adults. The team made us feel very comfortable and were so accommodating. Food was great! Crunchy roast potatoes! Not many pubs can do that! Our 2 young boys ran around a bit which was no problem at all. And when we asked to put the Euro 2020 football on the manager was so accommodating to allow us to borrow her laptop to watch the game. C. O.Great customer service, made a late booking for 15 people but more ended up coming and they still accommodated for my party; moving tables and chairs. Great staff very friendly and inviting. The food was great and reasonable priced. Very nice Prosecco and great cocktails aswell. Would recommend; rooftop terrace looks especially nice in the evening when the lights come on.
T. K.I came here on the weekend for a roast dinner with my friend who had never tried one before. I came here before lockdown and could honestly say, it was one of the best roasts I’ve ever had. Unfortunately I couldn’t say the same this time round. The roast took almost an hour which wasn’t so much of a problem. But when the roast came, could honestly say the portion size had reduced by a good 70%. My roast dinner was also drowning in runny gravy. The ‘beef gravy’ was a light beige colour and everything on my plate was wet. I told the waiters that the meal made me feel sick because it was so watery (imagine someone pouring tea on your plate, that watery). They did give me a new plate and gravy on the side which was nice and deducted 20% from the final bill. Besides that, the terrace is really nice and they welcome dogs which was nice to see.
R. C.Not quite sure what was going on when I visited here for food one evening. The outdoor terrace was apparently full, but there were hardly any people indoors so we got a table easily. Ordered a main course and pint of ale separately but within a few seconds of each other. Took about 15 mins for the first pint to arrive, and it was about an inch below the top of the glass, the second pint was not forthcoming 5 mins later so I queried both issues at the bar. Bartender tried to fob off the underfilled glass but after insisting I actually get a pint he did fill it, and did pour the second missing pint. Food eventually arrived, and with no problems. I'd been here before a year ago with no issues, and this chain tends to be run pretty well. Sadly will probably give this one a miss next time I'm in town.

E. L. G.The Castle is a great rooftop bar in Islington offering a little haven from busy Pentonville Street and Angel. If the weather is not on your side the pub itself has a cosy and homely feel.
We had a glass of the Petite Odette Mediterranee Rose (French) which was a dry light rose blush with notes of strawberry (175ml: £7.90) on the rooftop. The prices are slightly higher than other pubs in Islington but we thought that the rooftop offered something different.
Food wise, the Castle offers British Gastro pub dishes ranging from brunch and small plates to larger meals and roasts. The pub also offers live sports and pub quiz nights so make sure you check out what is on!
s. a.My visit to The Castle with work colleagues was great this evening. Roof top dining/drinks was fab. We had a laugh, enjoyed some great food (compliments to the chefs), our burgers tasted absolutely delicious 😋, as did the loaded fries. Great selection of wines, too. The table service staff were also polite and so accommodating. Would recommend and look forward to the next visit.

A. A.I can on Saturday with a large group of friends to celebrate our friends performance. The table service was fantastic. Special shout out to Hassan (I think that was his name), the gentleman who was serving us. He was amazing and made the experience all the more pleasant. Huge kudos to the staff, very attentive and you could tell they were doing their very best (weather turned out to be problematic which doesn’t make for a good rooftop experience on a bank holiday, but they were very accommodating). I would have given 5 stars but I think my appetiser was average (I’m quite sure I was given iceberg lettuce which was a bit old over endive as was described) but I’ve heard wonderful things about their Sunday Roasts, so looking forward to going back and seeing how they flourish further once they can open at full capacity.
A. I.Pleasantly surprised at how many great vegan and veggie options there are. We looked up the menu before and chose to eat here because of that. The chef said it was a new menu, and we couldn't fault it. I had the rosemary roasted veg skewers with polenta and they were delicious. The pork belly and chicken pie also went down really well with the meat eaters. Will definitely be back again.
R. S.Very friendly and helpful staff! Had arrived shortly after 11 pm on a cold winter's night and wanted some hot chocolate. Even though they had stopped serving hot drinks at that time, the staff still went out of their way to make one.

S. B.We popped in for a quick dinner on my partners birthday. The staff were absolutely superb and couldn't have done more to fit us in and feel welcome despite us not having booked a table. The roof terrace is delightful and the atmosphere was brilliant.
In regards to the food, I never expected to have such beautiful fresh fish in the centre of london, the chunky chips were perfect and the batter on the fish was up there with the fish shops in my native Yorkshire. The baked camembert was superb aswell so overall it was a fantastic meal and we had a brilliant time.
N. B.Nice terrace on top where you can enjoy a good view of the area. They also have heaters for the colder nights so that you can stay comfortable while enjoying your drinks and food.

Staff were friendly and attentive, but management should print a full drinks menu to save them heroically reciting the cocktail and beer selection each time.
Food was good, but nothing special. I had a sausage roll; good flavour and onion rings; nice beer batter but greasy. Prices in line with other London pubs.
Would've liked to have stayed longer, but again COVID19 rules forced us to leave early.

s.It's pretty miserable traveling on business at the moment but dinner and drinks at this fabulous pub really cheered me up. Just after lockdown V2 ended I was in the area and had had a bad experience with the new tier 2 rules at a pub in another chain, which meant I was a bit apprehensive about coming here. I shouldn't have worried - wonderful ambience, really lovely staff, delicious food and a pragmatic approach to the new rules, which are v challenging. Thank you for making me welcome.

Venturing back on a recent trip to London was a blast from the past. Putting nostalgia to one side I still think this a great pub. Friendly staff, good food, nice selection of drinks and a nice atmosphere. Good to see it hasn't lost its appeal. If you're in the area, pop in for a few!

D. R.I popped in here on a July Sunday for a pint and loved the interior so much we stayed for a roast which we had on the roof terrace. The roast beef was some of the best I've had in my life, and thus the get 5 stars. The roast chicken wasn't fantastic, nice but nothing extraordinary. But the beef itself absolutely incredible, and compensated! The staff were friendly and helpful.

Classic pub grub was the order of the day with good fish and chips, excellent steak and lamb chops. Good selection of beers and wines by the glass and bottle. Local competition is fierce in Islington with many good eateries and pubs but the castle holds its own. Highly recommended and a very pleasant atmosphere with good service

J. D.Great little spot. Upstairs rooftop was full so we sat in the bar. Our service was good but other people sat for ages before they left without even a drink. The food was great. I had the burger, which was very good. Others had the fish and chips. The fish was light and flakey, the chips were very, very thick, which were great but not too everyone's liking, just be warned. The beers and drinks were fantastic. The mixed drink we ordered was balanced and well crafted. I loved the cider but couldn't tell you what it was except local. The bangers and mash we prefect comfort food. Absolutely recommend and look forward to going again.

G. C.VERY good food, and the location is central... but the terrace overlooks one of the busiest roads in the area. If you can ignore the traffic noise, then it's a nice place to be... especially for the food.
Did I mention the food?!? The quality is excellent, and the chef needs to stand proud of their creations!

We all could learn a lesson from you in friendless and service standards. Food was excellent and nice touch from the barman when we were leaving when he gsve us red envelopes with Xmas menus.

N. S.A pub to visit and re-visit. The castle features consistently amazing food (The fish and chips are unreal), featuring a rooftop BBQ menu in the summer months. Their decor is brilliant -- deep benches with comfy cushions, and enough seating ideal for big groups. The staff are really friendly and prices are reasonable. It's even a great place to watch your favourite match on TV or catch some rays on the rooftop terrace in the summer! A "classy" alternative to your average London pub.

I had the avocado in toast with poached gags and extra bacon on rye bread, which was absolutely lovely. The castle seems to be a proper pub with a lovely outdoor area, The beer selection upstairs isn’t great but has the local standard Camden Town.

Z. D.It's a nice pub, standard London prices for drinks and food. Service is not that friendly but effective enough, food is similarly okay but not great. The terrace area is lovely and the bar definitely has a nice atmosphere - but with the balcony so close to the main road it's really loud! My biggest complaint would have to be the men's loos, which had a urinal overflowing with water and splashing all over the floor. It was wasteful, unhygienic and it stank!
J. A.We went to the Castle for a team lunch. We were a group of 12 and managed to get a spot on the sunny terrace. My only complaint would be that there is no shade, a parasol or two would be a welcome addition. We all ordered individually at the bar and the food came extremely quickly. There were no complaints about the food at all, it was all very good. We'll definitely be back.

R. S.Very trendy now and significantly revamped in recent years. Fantastic all day IPA and great staff that will offer you samples beforehand. The loos are particularly interesting and worth a visit. The kind of place that sells awesome pork scratchings for a fiver and great craft ales rather than a CAMRA pub.

A. S.The Castle is a decent pub in Islington blessed with a very pretty roof terrace. The view isn’t anything spectacular but the terrace has plenty of benches and lights in little jam jars. And I can’t think of another pub in the area with such lovely outdoor seating. That said, nothing else (good or bad) stood out for me the one time I visited. But I’d be happy to return.

Ok, the beer selection is good and they're well stocked on all other spirits, happy customer here getting them sloe gin & tonics :) food menu changes every so often which keeps it interesting and is not too bad either.
M.Nice terrasse and really good food. Only 3 stars because the staff wasn't really friendly and when the bill came they didn't tell us our friends who'd left earlier had already paid 30% of the bill. All sorted out in the end but that was a bit shady
