Reviews of The Champion
A. C.
The rather wonderful feature of this traditional pub are the leaded lights which were specially commissioned and show various notables from the C19 era. Best viewed during daylight hours. It's a Sam Smith's pub but the organic cider in a bottle is up there with the best. Support pubs they needs us at the moment.
R. C.
Nice Sam Smith pub, great decor and excellent selection of beers.
Has a second bar upstairs, although wasn't serving when we were there on weds night
Stained glass windows are awesome
T. S.
The ambience and decor is really lovely in this pub. They have worked hard at getting a great atmosphere but to have no traditional ales is a huge disappointment. With decent beer, this is definitely give stars.
J. N.
Loved this place, proper little find.
Out exploring and stumbled upon The Champion. Strange look to the outside but absolutely incredible stained glass windows when viewed from inside. Barman was brilliant and the recommended Samuel Smith Pure Brewed Organic Lager was amazing!
Highly recommend this place, go and see it!
G. A.
Great pub. Sam Smith's beers on tap and bottles. Central and cheap.
G. G.
Great old time feel pub. Usual great Sam Smith's selection of beers and ciders. Staff were attentive. Pricing is slightly higher than others I've visited, but not by much. Location again isn't the best, may be quiet for some. Will be back.
A. K.
Always friendly service and decent priced drinks in London. Love that it's a bit off beaten path, means you can actually have a conversation with friends and hear what they say instead of shouting. Only downside are the bathrooms which are fairly rough.
R. W.
First time back in a pub in London for years and it's a nice little pub. It's a Sam Smith pub, so mostly their beers and ales. The stained glass decor is nice and no doubt I'll be back there again.
M. T.
Just wandered in to sample a traditional English old style city bar. It was busy inside, lots of noisy chatter but 2 stars deducted due to toilet aroma once inside front door.
M. C.
Nice quiet pub (upstairs for food) a block back from Oxford Street. Traditional pub grub on offer. Recommended
J. N.
Very nice and cosy pub and they a offer wonderfull selection of Samuel Smith beers.. double luck!! Perfect place if you wanna do a beer (of beers;) with your mates.
G. D. D.
The taddy pint had a weird taste and the toilets were terrible.
The India ale was very good though!
j. h.
Good, traditional British pub. Reasonable choice of ales and good food, too.
L. I.
Great beer. Pleasantly surprised by the prices for that location.
A. P.
Awesome pub. I tried the draught cider which tastes like cider with Barbecued meat dipped
In tomato ketchup in it.
Don’t believe me? Try it yourself.
S. P.
Sam Smiths pub, so the beer is good value by central London standards.
The stained glass windows are lovely. The atmosphere isn't exactly 'bustling' - but if you fancy a bit of peace and tranquility when the rain starts, this place is ideal.
b. o.
Great pint and what history you can take in just by reading the stained glass windows!!
G. B.
Amazing place for both food and drinks, great craft beers, place got renewed recently, has a really nice feel to it.
E. S.
Lovely, very english, London pub with a good choice selection. House white was delicious and also serve a great wheat beer. Got us in the christmassy mood!
I. G.
A lovely old pub with a dark wood bar and big stained glass windows.
The organic lager is extremely pleasant. Light, crisp and refreshing. A winner!
B. M.
Brand pib that only sells it's own label products, that spoils the otherwise excellent service and atmosphere
j. b.
If you want quintessential old English pub with a great atmosphere, here your place
G. M.
See what was left of a great dinner at The Champion. The fish and chips were excellent and the cheese pie was very tasty. The ambiemce was authentic, tracking back to the typical British pubs. Reasonable prices.
M. F.
Absolute Sam Smith's gem. Fantastic pub with amazing stained glass windows.
J.
Great old school pub, try the wheat beer on tap!
P. G.
Lovely pub. No music, no fruit machines. Just talking and drinking. Heaven. Nice stain glass windows too.
P. P.
Typical and very ornate Samuel Smith pub. If you are looking for a real British pub then this is it. A traditional Yorkshire brewery that sticks to its roots in every way.
D. B.
A nice Samuel Smith's pub, but a little pricey. Great service. Great beer.
K. K.
Good beer and cider. Loved the atmosphere. A new steps away from busy streets, so it feel calm and authentic
R. D.
Great Sam Smith's pub with the usual selection of tasty and cheap own brand beers. Plenty of seating and a nice friendly atmosphere. Outside seating is next to a busy road so not the greatest but still perfectly usable.
A. P.
Great staff, great location (near the Cartoon museum). Great little boozer.
I. S.
Charming pub full of character. It looks gorgeous upstairs and downstairs. Excellent selection of drinks. They have decent hot mulled wine and mulled cider during colder days in London.
Helpful and friendly staff. Was very impressed with their food menu, especially the vegan quinoa burger and chips… they were just perfect! Toilets were upstairs, so might not be suitable for those with accessibility needs.
Q. B.
Had a very pleasant business lunch (late going in) here. Service as you would expect and pleasurable - nice, professional and not over bearing. Food is home simple dishes served hot and nicely. Best of all it's just off Oxford Street and quite (at lunchtime) for a good discussion with colleagues.
T. K.
One of the best stained glass windows in London; depicting sporting and historic figures from the late Victorian age. Beautiful. Stools and covered benches nestle with tables made from wooden barrels. The bar has a full range of Sam Smith's beer. What more could you ask for?
H. W. (.
Great English pub with quirky stained glass windows. Maybe a bit kitsch but in a nice way. Interesting mix of customers just off busy Oxford street. Good range of Sam Smith's drinks including nice wheat beer. Staff nice but not very up to speed with the different types of beer.
P. B.
Sam Smiths pubs never disappoint. Good beers brewed in Yorkshire (always a plus in my book!), traditional pub atmosphere and decor and a friendly service. We didn't eat but heard the food is good. Location is great too, right near the 100 club. Seriously check this place out
N. S.
Great pub. Great to be back!
K. B.
Great Samuel Smith's pub. Would get a bonus star for a cask ale, but friendly staff and good ales and lagers. The interior is beautiful with stained glass and plenty of cozy seating.
R. I.
Just another one of Samuel Smiths' great London pubs. I don't choose them often enough and every time I do they remind me of the quality of their (unbranded) beers. Fabulously traditional look and feel to the pub too.
S. M.
Standard Sam Smith pub. Dark and moody, own branded beers. It has a local feel to it and the stained glass windows are pretty. It was quite busy when we went, shame the upstairs wasn't open
C. S.
Proper pub just off Oxfird street. Good range or real ales and porters. Place for a catch up and chat with friends. No loud music and food upstairs. Didnt eat this time, but was told it was good. Good place to meet before going to the 100 club.
J. P.
Lovely looking pub with oldy worldly interior and stain glass windows. Really nice staff and just far enough away from the madness of Oxford street.
M. C.
A Sam Smith pub = good beer, decent price & lovely setting. If you're in the area & thirsty this should be the place. Small but far enough to Oxford Street not to be too crowded. Beautiful glasswork too.
R. B. -. E. k.
Do not go up there often but when I do it is reminiscent of times gone past.
This pub is like "the way they used to be" and no frills, beer on tap and not one of these places where they bring around shiny trays with the wireless credit card machines on top.
Quite a lot of the media crowd hang out in there after a hard day's work.
N. W.
Cool place. There's an upper level with it's own bar. The upper level has a Victorian style feel to it.
Great food and tasty beer!
e. o.
Very nice pub with good food
R. H.
Super pub great vibes
G. G.
Unfortunately limited on the choice of lager. However friendly staff

g. u.
Typical, old fashioned boozer, beautiful stained glass windows. Sam Smiths beers, best in London by miles. Jess, who serve me, was friendly, welcoming, an efficient
N. S.
Great place specially upstairs where you can sit with friends on a nice table order some of many different beers they offer and eat their great tasty burgers. And generally have fun with your friends. The place is just made for that.
M. B.
As all other places in Soho, it's overcrowded in the evening. Barely find place to sit and eat. The food is good, the waiting time is bearable. The beer was fine. The pleasant girl at the counter of the 2nd floor.
J. R.
£3.90 for a pint of stout in a prime spot of London and one of the most unique pubs around - definitely recommend.
a. d.
This is one of the most original public houses in central London. A visual treat as well as an enjoyable drinking and dining experience. The staff are always welcoming.
C. M.
Always a great pub. Cheap beer. Good atmosphere. Great staff...until like 11pm when they inexplicably close.
R. W.
Always a favourite amongst that weird little knit of Sam Smiths pubs in the West End. Service a bit more on the ball than in some. I recommend the Double 4 lager.
E. M.
A lovely friendly old fashioned pub with exceptional choices of ale and a cosy coal/log fire to warm our rain chilled bones. Will be back soon !
m. s.
Goog food , good drink , good friend.
P. C.
One of several really good Sam Smith's pubs in Fitzrovia. Unique stained glass windows of various "champions". The usual selection of Sam Smith's drinks and friendly, competent staff.

R. M.
Good atmosphere in the bar downstairs, nice and chill upstairs where you sit down for food. Proper nice pub meals.
A. G.
Beautiful old fashioned pub just north of Oxford Street. Having a pint in the early afternoon with the sun filtering through the stain glass windows is the perfect way to unwind after a stressful morning
N. H. (. U.
Brilliant pub, good beer at good prices for London. Highly recommended. Check out the windows as well. Bit of history there.
I. B.
Lively and buzzing in the evenings, this pub near BBC celebrates British icons or Champions from the past centuries, through framed photos and stained glass windows.
D. M.
Nice enough Sam smiths pub, been there on and off, I've never eaten there but it has nice traditional interior and a more airy upstairs- I think it was my 30th birthday I celebrated up there...
D. P.
Looking for a "cheap" pub near Oxford Street? You should probably go here.
A Sam Smith pub which usually means a cheap and hearty place to go for a drink, it is probably more expensive than the others in London as to its location but will still be as cheap as possible.
They have an upstairs with a bar, which has quite a lot of seating, this pub isn't really a "secret" as most Sam Smith pubs tend to be, but it is quiet with no music (saves money) and their own version of every drink which is always funny to figure out what you want.
N. L. M.
Lovely old pub with loads of excellent features to admire and of course easily the cheapest prices for drinks that you'll find in the area.
F. G.
Old fashioned perfectly place little pub. You get great beers and decent company everytime.
