Reviews of The Culpeper
L. W.
I actually would like to give 3.5 stars.
Overall the location is beautiful. The menu looks good and I only have positive things to say about the drinks.
What let the place down was the slow and inattentive service. Some of the food, like what I've pictured was fantastic; here we have the risotto and white chocolate lemon tart. These were the best two options in my opinion.
Chips had no salt. Other mains looked less impressive or cared for, compared to the risotto.
I ordered then cancelled the pie after seeing it was a stew with pastry top and an odd mixture for 'pie of the day' (tomato, pork and other bits).
Anyway we had a nice lunch and I'm not trying to slate the place just to give good advice to people considering options. Also, in my opinion a bit more focus on service by the staff and perhaps another cook to support the kitchen, allowing more focus on some dishes would bring this place right up!
Overall we had a nice lunch.

We loved our experience at The Culpeper. We booked a table at the restaurant for dinner and we were seated at a nice table at the window. The food was delicious and the service was amazing! The staff is very friendly and thoughtful, I even got a free brownie for my birthday ♡ We will come again for sure!
C. T.
Seems a pleasant enough place. Lots of tables with seats so good for meeting people. But the number of tables didn't make up for all but one pump being off and there being no cider. If try it again though as the batman was great under difficult circumstances.
M. K.
I’m not local to this place at all but I wish I was (: it’s simply incredible and the team makes you feel so at home. I’m super picky with cocktails and the bartender managed to deal with it with a smile! Great selection of beers and wines too! Definitely coming back and need to try their food!
J. d.
Nice place, good selection of beers and not too noisy. Great for drinks, would not go here for the food although that looked decent. There is many excellent restaurants in the area.
M. R.
The food is pretentious and not as good as it should be, a bit pricey, very "Shoreditch" in those respects. Menu on web site is misleading. Staff were lovely, helpful, obliging, really nice. Atmosphere very pleasant. Clearly a popular venue.
S. V.
I have been few times to the pub and really like it. Cozy, nice place. Unfortunately I have never managed to go to the rooftop terrace as it was always fully booked.
H. H.
Had a quick drink and dinner with a friend here. The ambience is great and the food was even better. Its a great place to go on a Sunday and hang out while it might be raining or in-between things to do.
L. C.
we went for Sunday roast as a group. the vegetarian wellington was absolutely delicious! the pork shoulder a bit dry though. we skipped starters and that was a good call so we could enjoy their chocolate baklava dessert (fab!). good drinks, good vibes, quirky friendly service
J. K.
Had dinner at the rooftop last night. Very cute and romantic, with all the rooftop gardening around the seating area. It was a little chilly but they had 2 fires going, which was very nice. The service was good, staff was friendly and helpful. The food could be better. Had burrata (pictured) but flavour combination was not to my taste. Mushroom risotto is slightly overcooked. Chocolate baklava was dreamy though!
M. L.
I had to change my booking for the restaurant a few times and this was done with ease. The food was great, the staff were amazing and we had a lovely evening. Thank you!
D. C.
Nice vibe, lovely staff… absolutely God awful Guinness for £6.00 in a standard glass, come onnn. Why honestly bother serving it if it comes this?
K. W.
It can get busy here but not to worry there is always a large crowd outside enjoying the local vibe. A very relaxed bar with exceptional staff who can handle a busy bar. The food is amazing and great place to go for lunch. A favorite of the local workers who will wind down after work and let the stress melt away. This is one of those swish, trendy feeling bars but has a soul too. If your in the area give it a shot and I'm sure you'll be back for more with friends. Very local to a lot of night life and just around the corner from Shoreditch, Brick Lane with lots of short cuts and public transport links.
J. A.
Great place for drinks and food, a tad pricy but that's okay. Loved the drinks and they did accommodate my request for strawberry daiquiri!
C. B.
Cool atmosphere, great food (try the sausage rolls) and ideal place to grab a post-work drink!
When it's busy, it can be super tough to get to the bar - but that's part and parcel with bars in London!
Overall, definitely worth trying out!
C. C.
I've been to The Culpeper twice. Once with just a friend as a walk-in and the second in a large group of 7. The restaurant space is lovely and the food is curated based on seasonality. Loved the mushroom risotto with beurre noisette and hazelnuts! The fish of the day with mussels was also amazing. No complaints on any of the food and service. I will be back!
K. P.
Great pub to go for a couple of drinks. Definitely try one of their cocktails!
T. a. E. S.
Excellent food and drink, and good atmosphere. Sorting out the bill was a little complicated, but otherwise a great place to spend a Friday night.
N. M.
Trendy up market London Pub and restaurant. Book your place at the restaurant or roof top eatery. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A few traditional ales for those of us oldies that cleave to the past!
D. P.
Authentic locals pub with great bartenders (many eclectic talents from NY/elsewhere). Easy going, great food, rooftop even a hotel. Everything right on about this place.
C. A.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff- only had drinks but they were very good. Great red house wine!
H. T.
Called in today for a few drinks nice bar and it serves one of my favourite beers Blue Moor and at a good price. Good atmosphere well worth a visit.
J. S.
Horrified to find out the roast has no roast potatoes. Just carrot, parsnip, swede and cabbage. Rest was great and the restaurant is amazing w great service
O. C.
Happy and atentative staff.
Great beer and even greater decor.
S. P.
Great pub, always wanted to get on the roof but have never been successful. Cool interiors and a nice place to drink.
G. G.
Staff were dismissive, maybe after a long shift? Single malt whiskey used to make an old fashioned when several bourbons available. Pricing is usual shoreditch astronomical.
C. A.
Staff was lovely, and the place is awesome.
Just stayed for a few drinks but wouldn't mind going back again to try some of the food as well.
J. S.
Superb, bar/restaurant/hotel. Beautiful interior and amazing roof garden. Excellent service, great selection of drinks and top quality food 😊
A. G.
We recently visited for a roast and the veggie wellington was divine 👌 I'd highly recommend! 10/10
S. C.
Beautiful decor and friendly staff. Good selection of gins
C. D.
A fantastic traditional pub with a roof terrace, excellent food and a good selection of drinks.
S. T.
Nice after work pub, great atmosphere and friendly staff
H.
Great roast & really good service, would definitely return.
B.
Beautiful rooftop and the other levels are pretty nice too. We visited on the first weekend after reopening and it was a great first meal. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff friendly and attentive. The menu is small and seasonal, but still definitely affordable considering it's high end pub food. We ordered the catch of the day - a huge 1kg pollack - and it basically fed 3 of us for £38. We also ordered the Welsh rarebit potato and spiced cabbage as sides, both were very tasty but it would be good to have the option for more filling and sharable sides. The drinks are on the pricey side, although that's standard for this area, and be aware that the rooftop doesn't serve draft (just bottled.) Reservations are incredibly hard to come by right now, so book ahead.
K. D.
Lovely staff and atmosphere but the roast veggies were underdone and gravy was thin and lacked flavour which was disappointing for an £18 roast. The beef was cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire were incredible. The entree (mackerel) was stunning and the bloody mary was delicious.
A. “. A.
Great interior and I liked the beef Sunday roast. They did a layered potato cake I liked, but my partner wasn't thrilled with the pork roast and soggy potato with that. They also have a nice rooftop garden that looks really nice. The prices are a bit steep, but that's expected for the area, overall recommend if you're looking for a nice spot at a premium. However, minus 1 star for charging a mandatory 12.5% fee that isn't included in their prices, and minus 1 star hiding another £1 charge for every cocktail... And they consider a pint of pilsner to be a "cocktail" for this. It's deceptive. If you want to charge £7 for a pint and donate to charity, then just be above board and put £7 on your menu.
N. C.
Lovely atmosphere. Good drink service throughout evening. Very enjoyable team evening.
A. J.
Wr had a nice Sunday roast here on the rooftop which is like a little orchard in the middle of the concrete jungle of Aldgate. The vegetarian option was great. I'd highly recommend it!
Z. F.
Excellent service 👏 Amazing, charming and very pleasant young lady working at the bar - rooftop garden.
Food was a very good quality. A little bit salty 🧂
L. J.
Cute roof garden which you can walk up to, a stone's throw from spitalfields. Lot of plants so not the best views, but nice thats there is lits of plany. Decent and ok priced drinks with good service
J. W.
good atmostphere, but probably the toughest beef. My friend had lockjaw the next day.
L. T.
Hands down best Sunday roast I’ve had in years! Lovely pub and even lovelier staff. Highly recommend!
S. M.
Really nice pub, very light and airy. Food was very good too, although the wine selection could be improved.
D. G.
An old pub but now has a bare, brick interior. Very popular with younger people as most were drinking cocktails, but it does have a good beer range too
C. A.
Just found this whilst walking round the area, based on other Google reviews we gave it a go. Glad we went in, had a fab meal in the restaurant upstairs. Very attentive staff. Give it a try.
A. S.
This place was an absolute joy. Couldn't fault anything. The staff were friendly and brilliant, the food was incredible - make sure you get the desserts, and all for a very reasonable price. For sure going back!
R. J.
Great place to have a drink with one of the best rooftop bars in London, super friendly staff and a good selection of cocktails, my only complaint is I think the prices have risen a bit over the curb, however I am always happy to come here!!
D. P.
Not bad atmosphere, food pretty basic, wouldn't revisit.
B. S.
Amazing beef. I drank so much red wine I thought I was a tractor
G. S.
I've been here, I think, 4 times. I've loved it every single time. It'll forever remain a favourite of mine. Great vibe, service, food, drinks, value, etc. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed!
O. I.
Always great food and a great atmosphere. The rooftop is one of my favourite rooftop bars in London - if you manage to place a booking!
E. A.
Really lovely venue with a vibrant fresh menu, staff were extremely attentive and we even got upgraded to the roof terrace. Beautiful views of London with lots of lovely produce growing.
I would definitely go back, a really superb experience. Great mocktails as I was a bit worse for wear 😂
m.
What an amazing place. One of my favourite pubs in London with 3 floors of pure quality.
Was lucky enough to get in the rooftop without a reservation (definitely try to book in advance) and the experience was even better than I remembered.
The menu expanded in variety and now offers hot plates in addition to the rooftop’s patch produce which is lush and makes the place picturesque and happy.
The bread with butter was unmissable but so was the burratta and the tartare.
Not to be missed either is the wine list - with a full list of natural wines.
So lucky to have the culpeper as one of my local pubs!
T. S.
Great place for food and cocktails.
Staff couldn't be nicer.
C. B.
Great pub that manages to be traditional & up to date with lovely, friendly staff & atmosphere.
J.
Post lockdown no2 review: The food is still awesome and the staff still super friendly.
A lot of places have let their standards drop since the lockdowns for various reasons but the Culpeper has not. The food was delicious, and I couldn't fault a single dish, the staff were busy but still very friendly. Would definitely recommend but seeing how busy they were you'll definitely need to book.
If I was to find one fault is that the bread that used to be given out with their signature anchovy butter is no longer, but that is not enough of a reason to dock a star.
10/10
I. P.
Great venue and always a decent pint. Always seems lively.
P. H.
Been here a few times but first time back since Covid and the food is superb as ever! I had the shellfish pasta which was delicious. Tables well spaced with no adverse effect on atmosphere, even for a late Saturday lunch.
A. H.
Spent one evening at the Culpeper and really enjoyed it. The food was stunning, great selection of drink and the waitress who served us was very friendly too. Will definitely return.
E. H.
Excellent! My boyfriend and I went a couple of weeks ago. The food was amazing and the drinks were excellent. Would highly recommend!
p. o.
Quaint nice roof top and accommodating staff. Great ambience and decor. Food was very well presented and tasted amazing.
L. C.
Went for Sunday lunch and was very disappointed. It was lacking in any real rich flavours and tasted pretty bland. What was most disappointing was the Peanut Butter Mille Feuille. It was 95% puff pastry with only the smallest amount of cream, forgetting that this is the most enjoyable part of the dessert! Sounded great on the menu and it fell short
A. K.
Pub near to our hotel, just grab a quickie and on the way, nothing special
C. O.
Had Sunday roast on the rooftop garden. It was beautiful and relaxing. Felt safe & comfortable. It was a rainy say but completely dry under the canopy. Staff were masked continuously even outside and were adamant about social distance, one way traffic and cleaning. The food was delicious (I'm going to have dreams about the lemon posett.)
M. M.
Love this pub. One of my favourites in London. Beautiful decor and a great atmosphere. Staff are really good. Never tried the food actually but need to get myself there for that soon! Could possibly do with a slightly broader selection of IPAs. Can get busy on a Friday night
K.
This is one of my favorite bars in London! They have a wide variety of beers on tap. The bartenders are always friendly and efficient. Snagging a seat is pretty cutthroat, so you have to be quick or arrive early. The bathrooms are really nice as well!
D. H.
An amazing hidey hole of a pub in the middle of the city, a hidden beautiful rooftop with a working garden and green house, a few flights of steps past a small number of hotel rooms, and a great great bar, stocked well! Mike was looking after us and made the entire visit brilliant Social distancing in place and some great food consumed!!! We will be back soon hopefully! 🍻
E. L.
This Place has been on my to do list for a while and BOY I wasn't disappointed.
Each part of this place has its own Identity in a very subtile way.
The rooftop is perfect to have drinks and nibbles with your friends and family. The very sophisticated food served on the second floor clashes perfectly with the Chic destroyed decor.
I haven't tried the ground floor pub but I will be back soon!
M. B.
Friendly and nice local pub. Huge selection of Gins. Hard to decipher what lager/ale/cider is on tap without closely examining the taps. Reasonable priced drinks. Have only ever been for drinks. Nice atmosphere and pleasant decor inside. May have just been bad luck, but we were approched twice whilst inside by someone asking for money.
H. L.
Lovely pub, friendly and helpful staff.
M. G.
Really great decor, vibe and location. Consistent theme throughout. Great cocktails. Great food. Welcome drink for guests. Probably best breakfast I've had from any hotel. Only a few things; hard bed, difficult windows and radiators tricky to work.
C. S.
This review is long overdue, but it is very important to everyone considering a private party at the Culpeper. We had the MOST AMAZING WEDDING last year August, despite Covid-19 and all the challenges that came with it. Sandy and his team made our dream wedding come true. Literally from the start (first contact) to the finish (the day after our wedding, when we picked up the leftovers from our cake). Everything was smooth, safe and caring staff. We can only recommend the Pub and especially the roof top for private parties and small weddings. Not to mention the delicious food, the incredible view and the very unique and rustic vibe on the rooftop. In one word: PERFECT. Many many thanks Sandy & the Culpeper Team - you made us feel incredible special and safe!
PS: If you want to know what kind of people they are at Culpepper... as the restrictions were changing week by week, our wedding party got smaller and smaller, and the pub was going to make less and less money...
....and they responded by being MORE generous.
PPS The food really is amazing
A. G.
Great pub with really friendly staff. High ceilings with a light airy feel. Had really nice cocktails suggested to us by the bar tender. Not too busy for a Sunday evening, your actually able to talk to each other! They also had some interesting natural wines, not to my taste but enjoyable !
P. B.
Lovely lunch, fish and chips cooked to perfection, fish beautiful and fresh and chips with skin on authentic
C. Q.
Great ambience, reasonably priced, good service.
Can't complain 👍
M. O.
Good food, but terrible table turning - we had barely finished our mains when they told us we had to leave! No desserts for us.
H. H.
A pretty famous place, some friends recommended this place and had a great night here. Great interior, lovely atmosphere. They have a good selection of drinks and food. Staff were friendly and professional
E. H.
Nice little watering hole. Lovely beer. Great staff.
S. F.
Love place for a nice cocktail!
S. H.
Lively venue, with good local craft beer selection
A. R.
Fantastic food, went in for Sunday Roast and it all was fantastic. I'll be honest it wasn't you're classical 'roast' and I did miss the good old fashioned roast potato. But it was very tasty. Good service. The decor is lovely, vintage, exposed brickwork, hanging folliage. Very relaxing.
R. D.
We had our Christmas dinner in the covered winter garden on the rooftop. Beautiful space, with great views. Dinner was delicious, with friendly service. Tasty starters and main, we had salmon and lamb which were both cooked well. The pub downstairs gets quite crowded and loud but has a nice ambiance.
A. D.
The perfect place for a Sunday Roast!
My friend and I booked a table on the 1st floor restaurant, wishing to specifically have a Sunday Roast that is vegetarian-friendly. Ended up being mind-blown by how delicious everything was, plus a beautiful venue (grabbed a cocktail on the rooftop terrace while they were setting up our table and it was small, but gorgeous up there!) and friendly service. Definitely coming back.
C. S.
It is a very cool place, in a very cool setting and slightly further away from Shoreditch mess. Saying that food/drinks are average but still a nice place to visit once in a while.
T. H.
Somewhat confusing to navigate all the levels and find what you're looking for. Fish and chips were excellent, but only available on the bottom level. Atmosphere was busy, but fun. Look and feel of the place was top notch, great architect/designers whoever they may be
T. F.
Great customer service and vibe. We came to a friend's leaving do and had a great time.
The downside is that there's no clear vegan option in the menu, we had to ask for what "the chef would recommend". Hence the 3 stars review.
Apart from that food was really good. We had stuffed peppers as starters and risotto as main.
Drinks and price wise was great too.
For a 4/5 star review I would recommended adding vegan/vegetarian options to the menu as well indicating allergy restrictions in the menu eg. dairy, nuts, lactose, etc.
S. J.
Great atmosphere and a good selection of craft ales.
D. U.
Highly recommended, good food and friendly staff. Also you must try their rooftop garden, it's a gem.
G. H.
Excellent little roof top terrace, with good service.
P. H.
Beautifully done out pub with a rooftop garden and greenhouse. The food is excellent - well sourced, cooked and the staff know all about it.
4 Stars not 5 because the range of beers on tap could be slightly broader and the bar upstairs in the greenhouse is quite a lot more expensive than the bar downstairs - but you can carry drinks up.
D. C. L.
Really nice place to have some drinks and food. Lovely waiters. Dog friendly
M. M.
Absolutely satisfied. We googled this place and were advised to book table in advance, which we did luckily. Place was packed. Staff is friendly, I really enjoyed the ambience. We ordered two different roasts - one with horseraddish and steak, other one with lamb shoulder and mint-jelly. Both were great. Small complimentary starter included. Thank you 😊
C. N.
Great venue! Would recommend but sometimes hard to get a seat. Very popular and good variety of drinks.
S. j.
What an amazing place. Very beautiful atmosphere. Food was outstanding 5 star all the way.
All staff were so lovely. Its also dog friendly too.
L. L.
Great food and great service. A really enjoyable afternoon.
J. P.
Beaut pub for weekend drinks. Cool decor and vibe.
K. D.
Great food and nice drinks, limited selection of drinks on the menu and they ran out of fish.
R. L.
Room was very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was excellent with a nice buffet and a delicious cooked breakfast. We had the full english and the smoked salmon with scramble egg
We had dinner on one of our two night stay and enjoyed both the food and the very friendly service.
M. G.
Very attentive and friendly staff in a great location with a really nice atmosphere. We were here for a privat event and visited the pub upfront. Many thanks to all the staff, especially Micheal & Pavel. Great effort!
S. B.
Very pleasant. Dog friendly and good food.
R. W.
Lovely pub, beautiful decor, friendly atmosphere and great service. Recently discovered after walking past several times, this is our new favourite go-to pub for after work drinks. Planning to investigate the roof terrace when the weather warms up!!
K. A.
Lovely open atmosphere. Table service for drinks, santizer on the door, all staff in masks. Restrooms had adorable miniature showerhead tabs and bathtub basin trough. Sat ourselves on the long bar by the window and utilised the coat hooks underneath. Would visit again!
H. T.
Would be 5* but a little expensive. Still fantastic beer and atmosphere
A.
I had really high hopes for this place after seeing the gallery on the website and checking out the menu. The building itself is very grand and looks great, the interior is also quite elegant and welcoming. The rooftop garden/bar is very cool and absolutely worth stopping by for a drink after your meal.
Unfortunately the food at the Culpeper, on this occasion, was average and a little bland. None of the dishes sampled really stood out despite strong presentation. Additionally I was excited to try their oysters but was disappointed to hear they had ran out for the evening.
The service was great, the waitress did a superb job and we enjoyed having a chat with her during service. Will likely stop by the Culpeper again in the Summer to give it another shot and enjoy the rooftop garden.
a. m.
Food was ok. Wine is good, Beer was a bit meh considering where it is you would think they have something a bit more interesting than hop house.
It's an absolutely beautiful pub which is it's saving grace and always busy.
S. W.
Love this place, great atmosphere. Perfect place for Friday evening drinks in the summer. Does a really good Sunday roast too. Booked it for a reunion lunch with about 20 people; the service was great, the food tasty and we had a decent space
R. J.
Lovely local feel bar. Went there just before it got crowded with after work people. Had a good cider on tap and tried the unfiltered white wine. The bar is bright and airy with big windows, did not realise there was a rooftop terrace.
C. C.
Went here on an early Friday evening. The atmosphere was lovely, warm, and cosy. Not loud at all so perfect for having a conversation with you friends. It wasn’t crowded when I came. Had a rum cocktail (mai tai I believe) which was suggested by the lovely bartender. It was delicious. Will definitely go back! Such a lovely place.
M. C.
Great beer selection and friendly staff. The bar is pretty good and open until late, but good for a 'quiet' pint late at night still - I was meeting a friend who'd just landed in London late at night, and wanted a pint so we're could go here, no entry fee, no dress code and have an unfussy pint and catch up at 1am. Perfect.
A. W.
This is my favourite pub in London. Proper old Victorian pub, great range of beers on tap, I have eaten here on a couple of times and it is always excellent. I have also stayed at the pub and the rooms are very nice and comfortable. However the main reason I like this pub is the staff. Everyone of the team there is friendly and attentive without exception. Getting good service in London can be a challenge and very rare to get it so consistently. Not sure who owns the pub but they have done an excellent job, a real find. They also have a later licence particularly on Friday and Saturday when it is 2 am.
J. M.
This bar has really cosy rooftop. My girlfriend loved it. Enjoyed time there. Decent prices and great service, would definitely come back.
D. W.
I had pork roast dinner, each ingredient was somewhat strange tasting, like you could taste the oven cleaner. The pickled onions were overwhelming too. Presentation was good and the staff were attentive and friendly though.
S. D.
Stayed here on a Friday night and the place was absolutely buzzing. Roof terrace was a cool place to have a cheeky cocktail. Room was small but perfectly clean. If you want peace and quiet this is not the place for you. Breakfast not extensive but what we had was good. Would definitely stay here again.
S. S.
Very very tasty. The burrata starter was my pick. The restaurant is a beautiful room with plenty of space and not as crowded or noisy as the bar downstairs. My friend kept commenting on how many good looking people were there.
C. W.
Lovely vegetarian roast!
The complimentary bread is delicious and the atmosphere really nice. Quite busy on the Sunday though so get there early or late!
J. P.
Really good Sunday Roast, not huge amount on the plate, but just filling. Nice decor and friendly staff. They had good social distancing controls.
H. S. H. (.
Oh man, it's been 4 days and I am still full. Some parts of the meal was delicious, other parts not. The beef Wellington was superb and potatoes were superb. The apertizers were nice. The brownies and The pork belly was a joke. Pork bellies was just 75% nasty fat. I just avoided that one. The brownies was just a cake, not anywhere close to a delicious and fudged brownie. Not even the edges were crisp. They really messed up the defenition of a brownie. Minus one star for that and the pork belly.
Cozy place and trendy building. We were a larger group of 12.
J. D.
Staff were and are amazing and so nice! Beautiful building and awesome location. And after snooping on the chef at the morning briefing, I will be booking a table if not a room. All the Bar staff rule! Maybe not Thomas... ;p
S. L.
Nice environment and good food, service super friendly.
It's the perfect place to go chill with friends for drinks or food
T. S.
Great atmosphere, amazing interior and extremely popular. Generous selection of beers and pretty looking drinks, and the food (we didn't have any) seems to be just as good. The place is a bit high up on the price range, but you get what up pay for, just like any other place. Also, they have an awesome rooftop - if you're prepared to stand in line.
W. G.
Sat on the roof garden with a couple of drinks and enjoyed the fresh air and views from a couple of levels up. Service was great, with the bartender allowing samples of his favourite picks. Needless to say, I was not let down. Great little spot!
D. P.
Just excellent. The whole experience, the service, the drinks, the interior. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to the roof, it was fully booked. Do yourselves a favor and book if you want to go up there.
J. L.
A lively pub by Petticoat Lane. An ordering hiccup meant a long wait for my food, that said, it was worth the wait and the polite, friendly staff were very apologetic offering free drinks in compensation. Excellent customer service!
The bar has some good real ales, the Mad Goose was crisp and fresh. A good selection of wines and spirits are also on offer.
Well worth a visit!
S. G. H.
Great food and great service. Watched the sunset on the rooftop while eating fresh fish and drinking good wine, can't complain! The staff really knows the menu and can advise the best wine pairing.
D. D.
I love this place. One of Shoreditch's more grown up bars. The food is excellent, but you don't need to book a seat in the restaurant. The bar menu downstairs has plenty of options. The roof terrace is OK, but I'd rather be downstairs where it's warm and not windy.
B. B.
Excellent food. Went for the Honey Feast five course dinner. Menu was very tasty although I would have preferred something different to the dessert that was offered - Popcorn and Honey mousse; unfortunately it was too sweet for my liking. My favourite on the menu was definitely the Smoked Stracciatella, Pear, Walnut Foccacia, Lemon Thyme & Honey starter.
A. R.
Delicious meals, not much variety, a bit on the pricey side. Nice atmosphere but bar and roof garden are totally booked out at the moment, so it can get very busy with a small constantly packed WC.

Nice bar with a good range and a roof terrace!
S. B.
We had dinner at the rooftop which for a romantic night is fantastic. The menu is made out of 4-5 dishes so no to many options. Everything we orderes was really good, also the cocktails
A. C.
Great place. Very busy. We were interested in the food menu. Must try that another time. Unfortunate experience with the beers. It was a very hot afternoon and we were looking forward to sampling a couple of cold ales. Sadly, so were lots of other people too. So, the beers we chose were running low or running out.
J. W.
Dining upstairs at The Culpeper was superb, one of the best experiences I have had in east London. Members of staff were charming and knowledgeable. The food was delectable. It was the perfect setting for my girlfriend’s birthday meal.
D.
Good pub with a nice rooftop bar area. Both the main bar and rooftop areas can quickly get busy immediately after working hours. So I'd recommend arriving earlier to grab seats if you're coming as a big group.
D. S.
Large corner gastropub between Spittlefields and Aldgate East. Been here for after work drinks previously but the first time for Sunday Lunch today.
Ground floor is one large room - light and airy on a warm day. First floor is the restaurant, hotel rooms on the second floor and then a small roof garden.
Lunch was very good although the staff seemed a little over-stretched. Nevertheless, good service and very professional. Unfortunately neither of my friends enjoyed the coffee.
Would definitely recommend - particularly if they had one or two more staff members.
S. L.
Had a roast with friends on a Sunday. The starters provided where delicious (cheese balls and also some cod balls). We had three lamb roasts and we all agreed the gravy was far too watery, I ended up splattering it all over the place. Sadly this did let the meal down for me. Meat was lovely and tender, veggies were standard. Mint jelly kinda of dissolved in the gravy so lost its existence. Very nice customer service but I wouldn’t come here again for a Sunday roast unfortunately as it felt like my plate was swimming in murky water. Sorry just my opinion, I know some people like that sort of gravy 🤷🏼♀️
I.
Tasty Sunday roast and aperol sprits! Super nice staff and relaxing rooftop space.
A. C.
Amazing, bright pub/bar/restaurant, with lots of plants, huge windows which allows it to be a really bright place! The cocktails are really good and not too expensive! The staff is really friendly and the rooftop bar is beautiful!
A.
Few places beat the roof terrace on a sunny day/evening. Get there early as it packs out quickly.
The small plates are delicious (mostly made from the ingredients grown in the roof greenhouse!). The wines are esoteric and interesting and cocktails well made.
Great fun.
s. g.
Great pub with bar at lower level, restaurant/kitchen on first floor and a beautiful (yet very busy) rooftop terrace on top, with a stunning view of the city (first come, first serve). A lot of their herbs/fresh stuff is grown in their own little garden on the terrace and the wine list is pretty decent.
T. A.
Roof garden is beautiful, staff super efficient and good selection. Must go again.
D.
An expensive pub but a great space. Only ever had the food once but it was plesent albeit expensive. There is a decent choice of alcohol but a bit lacking in the choices of beer on tap.
If you are outside on the footpath be warned that it is policed by security (on the side street) within a literal inch if you are being "outside" the "line".
It's another "go-to" for work collegues.
L. d.
Delicious sharing plates, the burrata walnut and endive was insanely good. Charming waitstaff and we loved our little cookie gift! Great atmosphere and well situated, very worth a try!
A. L.
Food was more satisfying than the menu might have suggested. Good location on Commercial St. The restaurant was quiet when we went (Tuesday evening). Very expensive and no classic cocktails which was a shame. Other than that, I would recommend for an occassion
A. V.
Great gatropub. Reasonable prices.
I was there on a Sunday. We had the goat cheese tart, gnocchi with mushrooms, the carrot and beef pie and the walnut brownie. They were all really good and very filling. The service was also very good. I would highly recommend this place.
R. A.
A great new gastro pub where the Princess Alice used to be. They have completely refurbished it to create a lovely building with a brilliant atmosphere.
The wine and beer selection are great with well kept ale, and the food is well above average for a pub. All in all a great place which offers a nice and easy mix of drinking and eating in the same place.
C. N.
Delicious bar food, excellent drinks and super friendly staff. The interior is on point! Loved our visit and will be back for sure.
E.
Great venue and nice bar staff. Also open later than most venues in the area.
N. v.
I love this place, it just looks so smart yet relaxed. I enjoy sitting at the tables facing out to the street, I'm obsessed with the tiles used throughout the place. Drinks were also good (great house rosé). I've never had a the roast, because (please note) they only serve till five on Sunday.
A. M.
pub is nice but probably the slowest service in the world... every time ive been to this place getting a drink took at least 20 minutes... absolute joke..
they need more staff behind the bar during peak hours
avoid if you are after a quick beer
D. P.
Fantastic place. Booked a rooftop table. Views were great. Food was spot on and reasonably priced. Service was great too. Well worth a visit.
A. M.
Beautiful but extremely busy!
z. c.
One of the best London gastropubs I've tried in the East. Fantastic selection of London craft beers in bottles and good range on taps too. The atmosphere is vibing but not excessive, the menu is excellent and they serve one of the best Bavette steaks I've tried recently (Sunday roast menu). Absolutely recommended. Also, open until 2am!
J. R.
Cool place, cosy lighting with a more lit up brassy and shiny feel around the bar in the middle. Makes the whole place feel quite classy. A reasonable selection of whisky too - not a large selection - but some good quality ones.
T. J.
Very busy city pub with old world charm but contemporary service and drinks. Lovely for a quick pint or two before a visit to Unity Diner.
S. D.
Great pub with nice decor. Popped in for a quick drink and some bar snacks. Went for the deep fried black pudding bites, which were fantastic, chips were also great. Nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff.
M. O. L.
Lovely place. Kitchen and staff managed to get me a nice gluten free and vegan dinner
Beautiful roof top with a great view. The polenta fries are fantastic
A. R.
A great pub between Aldgate, Brick Lane and Liverpool Street. Inside is gorgeous and the selection of drinks is quite nice. There is also a rooftop and the first floor is reserved for lunch/dinner. Can be quite busy particularly on Friday because several companies are having drink there at the end of the week.
D. F.
Good option for a happy hour with colleagues after work . Me and colleagues go at least once a week , you need to be patience since it can be really crowded and to get some drinks can take a while ! We never go to the restaurant upstairs but for drinks is good
B. P.
Great place both as a pub and B&B - we had drinks here and stayed over night. Very reasonably priced rooms getting the basics on point- cosy, with a comfortable bed, big towels and powerful shower. The inclusive breakfast was simple yet tasty, freshly made croissants, filtered coffee and a hearty full english. Would definitely stay again.
C. F.
I love this place. Great, lively pub downstairs, and a fantastic restaurant upstairs.
The menu isn't super vegan-friendly, but the staff went above and beyond by helping us choose and editing dishes to work.
S. S.
Great place with a very pleasant atmosphere and an interesting mix of people. The food was almost eclectic, now I don't know if it is in comparison to the rest of the city.
I had the roasted romanesco cauliflower with ricotta, pistou & candied walnuts. A fantestfa mix of flavors with tasty bread and anchovy butter.
Unfortunately I was here on a Monday night and the rooftop was not open :(.
The downstairs is nicely decorated and has plreasap lighting.
The staff is very friendly and taking good care of the guests.
All in all a great experience.
j. e.
You will not find a nicer pub in london, good date vibes, classy, not pretentious, great drinks, amazing staff, great tunes
K. K.
Great pub - used to be the Princess Alice and now fully done up. Didn't try the food but saw some plates and it looked the business! Good wine selection and my man friends said the beer choice was good too :)
G. F.
Love this pub. Great beers, awesome cocktails, fab bloody mary's, fantastic food - would have given five stars but loses one as the acoustics on the ground floor can sometimes make conversation hard.
H. S.
I had forgotten how packed tjis place can be on Thursdays 😱. And yet such a good vibe.
Drink selection is great and staff is friendly and laid back.
This is just a great pub 👍
M. V.
Great environment and cool staff. Will definitely go back.
E. H.
Incredible place, staff are another level, this type of service is something that companies should aspire too 1000/10
N. W.
Came here on a work lunch and was offered two menus depending on whether you're in the bar (downstairs) or the restaurant (upstairs).
We opted for the bar menu and it was excellent. The restaurant menu is a little on the pretentious side perhaps if you're just after 'pub food' - but this is the influence of Shoreditch spreading South down Commercial St.
The food was great (had a pork shoulder sandwich) and for someone fussy about beer (like me) there's an excellent selection to found across the taps and bottles here.
There aren't a huge number of 'cool' night spots down at this end of Commercial St so I'd recommend coming here if you're in the area.
Z. D.
5 starts on ambience, 2 on service
It's an authentic old house with a very thoughtful refurbishment - they've preserved the quirkiness for a great ambience. We went to a star-gazing night which was an awesome experience - jump on the rooftop to watch stars through a telescope. Perhaps because of the group event, service was proper bad (as in rude) and food was good but on the scarce side.
D. G. S.
The food and drink here is great, awesome wines and some real ales. Look forward to going up into the roof some time. Really friendly staff as well
D. L.
Went here in the summer and it was rammed, which clearly shows it's popular! Managed to get a table at the rooftop bit and was quite cool to have a place with that sort of rooftop that doesn't cost you and arm and a leg! Would recommend if you're in the area.
R. B.
Fab place! Ground floor bar, first floor restaurant, second floor letting rooms and roof terrace on top where they grow their own produce for their food and drink menu. Private room also available on the roof terrace with its own bar. Unusual and tasty food options (beef stew was amazing!)
J. E.
One of my favourite pubs. Trendy, great range of beers that change regularly. 3 menus to choose from, one formal dining restaurant, bar food and during warmer months - the rooftop. Really nice sitting on the roof drinking a beer and eating BBQed food amongst the garden beds.
K. J.
Good vibe, good adherence to social distancing rules, good food. Very little vegetarian or vegan food which was disappointing! But what was there was delicious
G. D.
Came on a recommendation and loved it. Made our way up to the rooftop garden area which was great. It quickly got extremely busy but he atmosphere on the ground level and outside made a second trip inevitable!
L. H.
One of the best pub in London. Great for the after work drink but also an excellent place for diner. The roof top is the icing on the cake when the sun comes out. I totally recommend it.
C. J.
Nice bar, chips are good but bar staff need to ask what size drinks customers want instead of just pouring the largest size. It matters, especially if people are driving and just want a small glass. Naughty!!
C. W.
Lovely bar, nice and bright during the summer. Prices are average but great place for a drink. Cocktails are the let down, the quality of them definitely change depending on who makes them.
S. E.
Met friends here for a Saturday lunch drink catch up. Very cosy place. Didn't eat but the food coming out look great. Got a little busy as the afternoon went on. Seems very popular
A. B.
On the first floor of this upscale gastro pub is a restaurant offering a simple menu of 4 starters, mains and desserts, which change weekly, using seasonal produce.
It may be a simple menu, but these dishes are far from simple, packed full of flavour and balanced beautifully. A faultless experience of fine dining at its best in this industrial-chic space. And it gets better and better... fine dining food at gastro-pub prices.
Example dishes... a starter of Herring caviar, potato fondant, Dill creme fraiche and cured egg yolk followed by Fillet of Hake, leek fondue, mussels, beurre blanc and sea purslane. Both dishes were stunning, with the Hake dish being one of the best fish dishes I have ever had! They also do a very good sourdough, as well as cheese board from Mons, Borough Market.
M. G.
Delicious food, bizarre service. In a group of 10, we all ordered beef roast but was told we could only have it in 150g or 250g. It was then served all chopped up and piled on one self service plate. So bring scales
H. O.
Really great food and staff and service along with lovely roof top venue
E. D.
All in all, a nice Sunday experience which we pre-booked weeks in advance. Nothing bad can be mentioned besides style of service for the chicken roast. A whole chicken split into chunks that you need to divide up yourself. Got a feeling they struggled with how busy it was due to the delayed service. Besides that a lovely meal and environment
M. M.
There is not even the question of how many stars to give: FIVE! Whatever you want to do in London, be it drinking, eating, sleeping or just having fun: There is no cooler place in London as The Culpeper. The whole building is a masterpiece of interior design. They kept the original features of it and added furniture and decoration which creates an uncredible atmosphere! Be it the Pub, the Restaurant, the 5 bedrooms or the Rooftop Restaurant. I can only recommend everybody to spend a few nights there... The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. If you expect a hotel lobby with the usual staff with friendly faces as "facades" and hotel uniforms: don't go to the Culpepers. If you prefere staff that treat you more as friends in a very uncomplicated way: The Culpeper is the place to go. And please try the Fish and Chips if you are there!! I know, its usually rather fast food than a delicious meal. Not so here. Outside crispy, not oily at all and inside a juicy filet. The best I have ever had! In the restaurant they have commited themself to fresh, regional, seasonal products and you can taste it.
I usually do not write comments on Restaurants and Hotels (and for sure not as long as this one), but I feel like I have to as I was so pleased about my stay there!!
P. D.
Great pub really nice atmosphere. Rooftop garden gets busy, but put your name down on the list on the 1st floor when you arrive and you’re normally up there in 30 minutes or so.
F. F.
Decent pub with homemade pub food with a little twist.
Had the gnocchi and the fish and chips. Great gnocchi with squash and spinach. Really tasty and well prepared. Nicely fried and seasoned. The fish was fantastic! Great chips not from potato mash but cut potatoes. Self-made mushed peas! Bit over seasoned but that's just personal taste. Batter could be crispier. Would eat again! Starter was fried blood pudding balls. Good stuff! Bread and home made anchovy butter complementary.
Beer selection decent 5.5 a pint for the standards.
Really friendly staff and all easy.
Nice atmosphere, great seating, no loud music, door needs to shut automatically because people are too inconsiderate to close it in cold weather.
M. S.
Three floors with three different menus. First floor is more "pub" fare, second floor is more "foodie" and third floor is different still. We ate on the 2nd floor, which was quite good. Menu is limited (3 or 4 each of appetizers, entrees, and desserts), but seems to change weekly or so. Sizeable selection of good wines. Pub floor was a bit loud, but Friday night probably covers most of it. 2nd floor was much quieter. Had s good time.
J. B. (.
Delicious bar food, excellent drinks and super friendly staff. The interior is on point! Loved our visit and will be back for sure.
J. C.
A good place to hang out after work. They have darts, pool and 80's video games which is very cool. This place is cozy and the drinks and food are superb. You wont feel out place in this pub. Try the local lagers in this pub and play fussball which is really fun.
L. I.
Great restaurant! Absolutely delicious food, at a reasonable price. £26.50 for two courses. Fast service and friendly staff. Good place for larger groups. I will be back!
M. B.
Perfect enviroment and good beers.
A. L. C.
Delicious Sunday roast, nice staff, decent wine list. If you like Bloody Mary's, try their Bloody Betty.
R. M.
Lovely rooftop garden and good Sunday roast!
D. H.
One of my favourite pubs. Good balance between relaxed and social. In the summer people often spill out onto the side road in that classic drink-after-work London way
B. M.
What an amazing place! Especially the roof garden and the staff is gorgeous and super friendly! Big shout out to Olivia Boo for making all my negronis who went down like a treat!
L. T.
We were the first people to stay in their new rooms and they are fantastic - a complete joy to retire upstairs after excellent dinner and loads of great drinks. Why get an Uber when you can kip in a wonderful room, and wake up to an insane breakfast?
Thank you guys!
J. R.
Great place equally for a drink or for dinner. Good beer and wine selection, helpful staff. Gets incredibly busy post-work later in the week. Note: lots of hard surfaces and loud music makes it *very* hard to hear people. Not a place for a quiet chat.
M.
Highly recommend this pub. Food is very nice, service is better than other gastropub in London and there are different menus depending on the floor you dine.
G. C.
Went to bar on ground floor, very good hand pulled beer (Sam Brooks Wandle 👍) and good range of beers on tap and bottled. Buzzing atmosphere with young city crowd. Service friendly and efficient.
V. P.
Nice place, small rooftop with a queue so put your name down, amazing staff and cocktails mixed properly. Excellent beer and gin selection
S. W.
Awesome roof top area to eat and drink. The food up here was fantastic. Each level has a different menu so I'm not sure what the restaurant is like, but it looked lovely.
L. B.
Love this pub. The food is amazing. We have been here for dinner on the first floor and brunch on the ground flood and both were fantastic! Beautiful decor.
S. B.
Impeccable service from JT. Thank you so much!
J. C.
Great food, cool vibe, amazing service! What else can you ask for? I really recommend the polenta chips and the squash gnocchi. They also have a cool rooftop garden for drinks!
E.
Great place with a lovely selection of spirits! You can find italian amari and lots of european delicious drinks too! Great decor, great vibe, music and staff! Will go again for a cocktail!
T. D.
A good pub in Tower Hamlets area
J. M.
Great drinks, not overpriced considering the location and atmosphere of the pub, gorgeous view and beautiful garden on the rooftop, and most importantly the staff are really decent and go the extra mile, Josh, Gemma and Barney, thanks for making our night.
Z. E.
Great environment. Great location. OK prices. Long waiting times for the roof terrace at peak times. Two hours on a Saturday evening. Good electronic/text message queue system to cope with this though.
K. N.
Excellent lunch. Great menu & very personal service. Nice pub downstairs with good restaurant upstairs. Good wine list.
Clean toilets.
Very nice.
A. J.
Great atmosphere , beer selection however unfortunately one roast was over cooked and one lacked flavour. A bit disappointing. The steak was excellent though.
R. S.
Had lunch on the rooftop. Decent decor. Very friendly staff. Menu is different to downstairs and only has some canned beers on the roof. Food was very good.
J. S.
That is, what a Pub should look like in my opinion, at least that is what we, here in Germany think. Came here one evening before going to the hostel and enjoyed a Pint or two. Really nice place!
B.
Trendy pub that has a nice decor but perhaps not the most welcoming atmosphere. Ale selection is ok but more limited than other options nearby. Decent place for one or two pints.
D. P.
Many stairs to get to the top, but not not that of an amazing view when you get there. Table serve atm, but the furniture was a bit tatty and old.
A. S.
Very pleasant place a few minuets walk from Aldgate East tube station, kind and well prepared staff, delicious food, quick service. There is plenty of place and we could easily book for a group of 10 for lunch. The atmosphere is great, the only con is that the music was a bit loud for a weekday lunch but other than that highly recommended.
L. A.
Really cool pub and restaurant. We went on a Friday and we were pleasantly surprised to get a table. We then moved on the rooftop which was gorgeous.
Good selection of drinks as well!
Z. S.
Local bar with really fun atmosphere and a cool rooftop in the summer months. Not the best selection of beer and frustrating that you're ushered indoors after 10.30pm, but still a great crowd and good food!
S. D.
Recently renovated and now a very classy east end pub/restaurant. Downstairs is a pub with very classy decoration and bar serving a good selection of beers and drinks, upstairs is a fine dining restaurant with a modern menu and culinary style
M. G.
The Culpeper is so fresh. Their grown vegetables, rooftop for lunch or early dinner.
Well worth it. Downstairs bar food is great but not as amazing as the rooftop.
J. S.
Charming pub in an area slightly devoid of good casual drinking spots.
The rooftop garden is a lovely place to hang out in summer and the beers aren't too overpriced.
L. C.
Good if you're only going for drinks. Bad if you're going to eat. The food is overpriced and has definitely gone downhill recently. There's so many more better choices of restaurants near by.
D. D. A.
We went for the Sunday roast and we choose the lamp option.. One of the best I've ever had. Location is really nice as well. Good selection of drinks!
F.
Really cool pub. Nice vibe and decent prices for a central London location. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Only negative is how busy it always seems to be but that's to be expected in London.
S. S.
The rooftop garden is gorgeous, such a lovely space and the outdoor open kitchen is great! The food is really good and very reasonably priced.
J. O.
I love everything about this place from daytime to night time. Great customer experience A* I will always keep coming back. The coffee here is amazing too 😁👌🏽
D. B.
Each time we had wonderful, cordon bleu cooking - worthy of a michelin star if it had table cloths and flowers. etc.. but we like it precisely because it is casual, with highest aspirations for the menu where everything is cooked to melt in the mouth perfection. The wines are all interesting and wholesome, leaning toward organic/terroir choices. Full marks from me and my guests- among the very finest in London. Quality/Price ratio surprisingly good as well.
M. M.
AMAZING PLACE for a full drinking/eating/sleeping traveler experience
Quite unique, a real b&b spirit in a nice and delicious gastro pub
So you will get a really good gin tonic on the ground floor in the very nice and beautiful pub.
Then you will go for a diner on the first floor, with fresh and good foods, clearly the best around, a real gastro pub ++
To end, you will go up on the second floor to find a room like home!
What else!
By the way, the is an amazing roof top terasse on the 3rd floor
Go there: with your partner for a real and pure londonese moment
R. C.
Had many first dates here so great memories. Not a super fancy place but very nice and chill to have a drink or 2!
R. V.
Excellent pub, have had both dinner and brunch here and the food is always amazing. There is also a good selection of beers should you want to drop by for an evening drink.
F. C.
The upper floor in The Culpepper is a great place for dining. Big thank you to David out waiter who suggested wine with food and looked after myself and friend. Will be back!
K. F.
Visited after the rooftop resto was closed but the Barman was very hospitable and showed me the smaller bar dinner menu. Had a great pork chop and beer while listening to tinder dates
V. M. G.
Cosy rooftop and beautiful views. Nice cocktails
l. s.
Delicious Sunday roasts! Great, chilled out atmosphere.
S. o. G.
Pub like a pub.
Beatiful interior design, usual beer selection. Not really so special, full of nice people.
Also the location is perfect.
Why not?
S. D.
I really liked the beer but it was full of lots of attractive women, none of them were interested in me. 90% of the blokes had some sort of stubble. Everything I hoped London wouldn't become
S. P.
One of the great pubs within a stone's throw of the Square Mile. Superb vibes and natural wines, and a terrific rooftop (which, sadly, gets busy pretty quickly, necessitating a waiting list).
H. S.
Only been here for drinks on nice warm evenings and it has been great every time. Good Mixed age crowd and nice drinks. Can be quite loud inside.
H.
Lovely pub with a small rooftop area. The rooftop overlooks the skyscrapers in the city and has lots of greenery so it feels like you leave the huddle and bustle of the street below.
S. D.
Decent pub that's near Brick Lane that attracts a fun, buzzy crowd and thankfully very few of the traditional Shoreditch type. Plentiful sofas and nooks'n'crannies inside - great venue for big groups/birthday drinks - and some outside space off the road, if you don't mind sitting on a stool, plus not-too-pricey drinks and nice staff. Nothing special but a good one to have up your sleeve when you're meeting someone in the area and need somewhere where you'll get a seat.
C. P.
Love the place, particularly the rooftop. Gorgeous. That said, 2 pints of freedom should be covered by a £10 note, especially when you don't have that many options on tap, fancypants.
J. D.
Great pub - lovely big windows letting in the lovely afternoon light. Great drinks. Only drawback was food not starting until 6?
M. R.
. The place is huge but gets quite crowded at night. Still it's possible to find de space with a large group. The atmosphere is very nice. The terasse on the roof is really nice but has a different food menu
N.
Good selection of local beers and really nice food. Also it stays open till late. Try to get into the roof terrace if you arrive early.
r.
Some good beers, nice feeling
D. W.
Excellent place! Very friendly staff, we were treated with a special sitting set up in the roof garden. The place was fully booked for the last day before tier 3 in London, despite that staff went above and beyond to make our visit worth it. Amazing cocktails, deliciously balanced between sweet and sour. My was favorite Kentucky bourbon! Great roasted pork and delicate fish, but let me tell you about focaccia and Parma ham, it was beautiful and delicious! You must go!
T. A.
Nice atmosphere and decor, but did get a bit crowded. Drinks were a bit pricey, but that's just the area. Cool place though
J. C. M.
Great place with great food. Lots of public and private spaces. Plus you also have bedrooms !! The food is one of the best I had tried in a UK food place in many years.
S. L.
Don't miss the restaurant upstairs. Compare to many other pubs, the place is very cosy and not too loud!
Food is good at a descent price!
P. J.
Hidden little gem just outside Shoreditch. This rooftop is beautiful. It's pretty small, so when the sun's shining there is typically a long wait to get up (sometimes up to an hour) but totally worth it.
G. R.
Nice Location!
Prices are a bit high and staff needs ages to get the drinks done ⏱ Cocktails are good tho.
M. H.
Went to The Culpeper for a couple of beers, they had a great range of beers and wines, all of our wines and beers were tasty, would definitely come here again and hopefully when the rooftop is open!
E. K.
Great cocktail, great view.
M.
I would like to thank your very friendly & helpful staff, I made a mistake with the booking so we were not able to eat there but they were so nice about it and although they were very busy they took the time to advise us of other options, we will definitely return soon, we enjoyed the good selection of beer anyway!
M. W.
Nice bar and fully packed with young locals every night. Cocktails menu was adequate but not extensive.
J. F.
I really love this place. I hated it when they gutted the Princess Alice but once I came here i understood and let the Alice go. . I now go here a few times a year for pleasure and have also taken people here for work. I go here in winter for a cosy lunch and go in summer for rooftop sun. Super attentive and friendly staff crew here too - top marks.
J. d. T.
Great food and a great view towards the west over the City of London buildings if you can get a table on the roof.
They have their own little greenhouse on the roof where they produce their own veggies.
K. K.
Lovely staff and a great rooftop hideaway!!
O. W.
Just had a delicious weekday lunch here. A small, seasonal menu, changed daily. Not cheap, but good value. And lovely decor and atmosphere.
M. S.
The atmosphere is nice. I tried to sit there on a Sunday evening, but the kitchen closes at 6:00. Too early for a big city, but I will give it a second chance.
T. H.
Only stopped in fora quick Friday evening drink. Seems nice and has a good selection of whiskies. Very busy.
J. O.
A really lovely experience sitting upstairs looking out over the city with fire pits and good drinks. Downstairs was a busy central London pub like many others.
B. M.
We had a great Sunday brunch with friends in the Culpeper. The vegetarian option was delicious, our waiter was friendly and welcoming.
G. B.
Very good food and drink. Service wasn't the fastest and we had a table booked for dinner upstairs for dinner which we were on time for but they didn't sit us for nearly an hour.
I. E.
Nice fancy cider and good atmosphere. Cute toilets!
S. M.
Nice vibe and ambience, quite packed for a Saturday night and great hangout place if you are with a group of friends looking for a nice place to hang out around this area.
K. P.
Nice pub and good selections
A. B.
Be sure to check out the roof garden (with a view of The Gherkin) where they grow some produce. Okay selection of locally brewed craft beers. They also have some bedrooms on the second floor which you can rent out via Airbnb, coming 2016.
D. T.
Great busy corner pub on Commercial street. Good selection of beers, welcoming staff and a lively atmosphere. A visit is recommended.
F. S.
The pub on the ground floor is usually crowded and noisy, the atmosphere in the restaurant above, however, is rather pleasant.
Food is acceptable, though the menu is very limited. All in all OK, but certainly not more.
K. M.
Very cool pub with great food and decor. Brilliant in the summer as has garden on roof, and bottom floor has concertina windows that roll in to create more space.
J. G.
I really like this pub. High ceilinged downstairs area with a stylish bar. The best bit is the rooftop terrace, though, complete with a herb garden for use in the kitchen.
g. w.
Love the culpepper, wentworths lady is one of the best cocktails ive ever had. Great staff as well, very accommodating and their recommendations for food and dring were spot on
J. D. T.
Phenomenal staff, did everything to accommodate us on the roof terrace
Food was delicious
We will be back
E. K.
Best rooftop restaurant is a fair review. Loved it. Really friendly staff and very good food. Rooftop was gorgeous to boot.
D. P.
In recent years The Culpeper has just got better and better, it was refurbished and it is now a trendy pub, with great drinks, great food, great events (sign up for their newsletter if you live close by) the staff are great, the seating is awesome, would recommend if you are near Brick Lane to take the short walk.

Great venue! Wait until the sun's out.
The little roof garden is gorgeous and the food is nice. It's nice to find something different in the heart of the city!
I. S.
Great pub with excellent selection of drinks, helpful staff and good crowd. Their music acoustic quality could be improved though.
C. C.
Great pub and restaurant with nice roof top. Believe it also has hotel rooms. Great atmosphere. Good choices of beer
C. E.
Great drinks service and food.and a roof top bar with views over the city! Ace! Lovely bedrooms too if you want to stay!
Y. S.
Came in for a Sunday roast. Both beef and lamb were nice. The Yorkshire pudding could use some improvements!
J. M.
The terrace at the top doesn't serve any drinks or food that you can get downstairs and the staff refused to even bring some ketchup up from bar downstairs, so I had to go down and get it myself, pretty odd
A.
Beautiful setting on the garden rooftop. The food was excellent particularly the pan con tomate. They also have blankets for chilly nights.
F. V.
The pub is quite new and very clean. I've been there a few times, it'd improve if they had a better selection of pale ales.
R. N.
Central location, open late and good variety of drinks. Downside is how crowded it gets at late nights meaning you have to stand outside and get herded behind a blue line to avoid inconveniencing passers-by!
M. K.
Nice place with a great range of drinks. Atmosphere was good and didn't take long to get served
M. B.
Food was good, but nothing special. The service was better. A bit more breakfast/lunch on the menu would fit this place nicely.
N. F.
Good old British pub. Late licence with good selection of Ale and other spirits. Quite full but everyone was friendly! :-)
L. M.
Nice place, good food, delicious but VERY expensive non alcoholic drink at £3.50 (no other choices).
A. R.
Only been here once and hoping to repeat. Good drinks selection and service. The food looked good and hopefully a roof bar opening soon!

Awesome food! Create selection of wines, whiskeys and beers. Service with a smile and great visitors. Highly recommend to go here.
A. L. H.
Nice London pub💯

We had a whole lemon sole for dinner, this was excellent!! The strawberry Eton mess was delicious too. I highly recommend this place.
P. D.
Great selection of beer, great food and great staff. Lovely place to relax with a pint - great decor with big windows and lots of plants.
A. P.
Nice atmosphere. Pretty small selection of beers though, and lots of their cocktail menu had run out.

Variety of Beers, Spirits and Wines

Great vibe, and really friendly bar staff. It was really busy on the Saturday night when we visited but they had a chat with us and continued to through out the night!
R. G.
With a choice between posh food and pub food you are spoiled for choice. Not forgetting to mention the choice of alcohol.
With friendly and east London hipster waiters this is a place not to be missed by any visitor to east London.
T. M.
Popped in here for lunch.Great atmosphere, light spacious. Friendly welcoming staff. Sandwich with fresh fresh bread. Recommended👍
A. B.
Good as a bar (bit busy straight after work), but food is average and not great for the cost. Veggie options are weak, no roast option.
H. H.
Amazing food and lovely table sharing format. Really brings a party together and so delicious too!!!
R. J.
Was ok to meet friends for a drink and we had a few bar snacks too. One of us was not drinking (dry January) and they only had soda in bottles which was far too expensive!
C. O.
Gorgeous pub with a great menu if you're looking for something a bit on the fancier side.
J. L.
Beautifully designed pub and even better if you can get onto the roof garden. Selection of beers on tap could be better.
H. D.
Nice pub with a good atmosphere, and it opens late. I can be a good option if you want to have a nice night out at a chilled place.
r. s.
really nice atmosphere, very helpful staff, tasty food and good wine or beer. i would go back there
T. M.
Absolutely class . Great food , good beers , excellent staff. Great job !
J. L.
Really nice pub. Rooftop garden is pretty sweet but you can't book it which is why I've only given it 4 stars.
J. B.
great food and lovely location.
b. v.
Nice rooftop bar and great atmosphere for spending a good afternoon with your friends! It is beautifully designed, great location and nice food!!!
S.
Great staff and atmosphere. Would definitely say drinks aren’t cheap but they’re worth the price.
A.
Nice environment but service was unwelcoming
B.
Fabulous food, great range of beers and beautiful design. You can also stay here in one of the five beautifully decorated rooms.
C. W.
Nice ambience & decent beer selection. Rooftop bar was full – I wish I could have gone up!
S. “. H.
Good roasts and epic portions. The margarita was a good 'un too. Make a reservation or come early on a Sunday.
B. H.
Nice restaurant upstairs with a bit pricey but delicious mains. The bar downstairs has a good selection of beers
S. G.
A decent enough place to have drinks if someone else has made the plans, not a place I’d pick myself. Often overcrowded.
M. S.
Great food great service great rooftop, bit pricey.
Advice to all who book online make sure to clarify you want a rooftop table.
A.
Nice bar, good cocktails
W. O.
Great quality food and the variety that comes with the sharing plates. Staff were very attentive.
T. S.
Excellent service, cocktails are great - not blown away by the food but worth a try..
R. W.
Rooftop restaurant is so good, food average, but the service, view and being outside makes it great
L. R.
Nice pub but expensive for a pint, over a fiver for a Guinness is taking liberties really. Has a roof garden which is shut on Mondays.
A. F.
Nice pub, used to be the princess Alice...but has had a major overhaul! Good food and has a fantastic pickle on the roof!
P. O.
Great place for a beer or cocktail. Super lovely stuff and helpful to find the good stuff. Looks like a local pub where locals meet
i. m.
A bar closer to the European style, wood decoration, good music, lively. Helping staff. Would suggest it and I will visit again.
B. M.
Delicious dinner and great selection of drinks. Service was fantastic. I want to try the rooftop too.
W. B.
This place is a solid 4. The crowd, drinks and staff are all good. It doesn't have any differentiating factors is the drawback. And be wary as it can get really busy.
H. S.
Excellent place to eat and drink. The food is delicious and there is a very wide selection of drinks available.
A. A.
The food and the vibe is 5 star. The staff are one of the loveliest people you could ever meet.
D. A.
Lovely pub, beautiful decor, friendly atmosphere and great service.
A. B.
Great bar but there is one lady bartender that needs to take some serious customer service classes. Worst attitude I've witnessed in a bar for quite some time. Please fix!
M. L.
Forza Win's popup rooftop pizzeria on top of the Princess Alice is a great summer experience this year (2013). The pizzas were great - from a basic margherita to artichoke and smoked mozzarella and a stunning courgette and lemon (Pizza Pilgrims) - but what made it was the atmosphere - communal tables and sunset over Bishopsgate. Vegetarians need not worry, so long as they don't mind bartering a few slices.
A. S.
Bit expensive, £14.50 for 2 drinks, but I'm from up north and we like a bit cost effective but it is London so.......
M. M.
Very nice wine. Comfortable atmosphere. Staff friendly and welcoming
V. V.
Excellent food, drinks and service. Would recommend. Only suggestion: the veggy option combination was a smidge questionable, rice.. followed by pasta
M. P.
It a busy and metroplitan pub. With a large seating area and beer isn't too expensive. Enjoy a lot.
J. L.
We visited here on Friday night. Literally busy. Anyway, we enjoyed this atmosphere and beers. Good good.
S. R.
Lovely!!!! Great beer. Great staff
B. W.
Great pub
M. M.
Really nice setting near brick lane. Gets busy from 5pm. Great venue with great food. Ideal for meetings.
F. J.
Great sunday roast at the rooftop!
A. G. U.
Fantastic meal, service was amazing, staff really friendly. Would definitely recommend.
P. N.
Looks like popular place. Just a gad a Guinness, which was not particularly good. But it's not a pub, so no problem.
o. b.
Experienced staff.
Comfortable bar area.
Needs a proper cocktail menu.
R.
Good location for a Saturday night, busy but a friendly atmosphere to the place. Frontier on tap too (at the time of writing) which is always a plus!
R. V.
Great bar with an excellent selection of beer, crowded but the crowd itself was quite nice and polite
A. H.
Very expensive but then it's all home grown on the roof! Lovely atmosphere. Great food.
M. A.
Great staff friendliness and ambience was good too, but vegetarians have literally one item on the menu to 'choose from'
F. R.
Great rooftop for golden hour drinking in summer and amazing roasts in the winter! Drinks are a little pricey though.
P. E.
Really nice pub with good area to stand outside! Good attentive staff!
S. V. l.
A really nice pub with good music. Check it out for sure! If you got enough money to spend...
M. S.
Cool pub near the city with decent food and a chilled vibe. Great service.
J. T.
Good drinks, amazing decor, great food. The roof terrace is a gem and the bed rooms were brilliant
R. P.

Highly recommend having lunch or dinner on the rooftop. Need to book in advance, the food is fresh and delicious and the views are amazing.
F. L.
Good food & drinks, friendly & skilled staff, a beautiful place and very popular with a wide range of people
L. S.
I give 5 stars for the rooftop view (this is why I came there in the first place). The food is ok but the decor and views are great.
R. R.
Trendy pub, they love to mix traditional British cuisine with French and Italian ingredients and recipes. You pay it fairly
L. N.
Nice bar with delicious dry rose wine. Bar snacks were good too and staff were friendly.
D. R.
The ground floor pub has relaxed atmosphere and great pub food. If you want to treat yourself to a special meal, I would suggest visiting the 1st floor restaurant.
j. H.
Pub & Restaurant. Good and original dishes
M. Y.
Lovely pub downstairs, food on the rooftop a bit overpriced for what it is. 3 stars because the service was great!
P. S.
Smart pub, with a good range of beers and atmosphere. Get here early on Thursday and Friday as it's often busy.
M. H.
For London this is a very nice bar. Only thing I didnot like that you cannot open a tab. I reconment the disco sour!!!
F. A.
A pub with rooms - highly recommended. Good service, rooms are clean and well equipped. Decent breakfast too!
S. A.
Food good. Staff good. Beer and wine good (if pricey). What more could one want?
L. m. v.
First time visiting with my friend and we loved it! Max was awesome and everyone else was warm and welcoming! Would recommend for sure :) enjoy!
D. T.
Nice and cozy place for food and drinks. Be ready to go and order alone at the bar and not to the waiter!!
M. B.
Lovely pub.
J. J. D.
Beautiful space with fun pub vibes downstairs and lovely dinner on the second floor with fresh ingredients and great service, would love to come back for the rooftop someday!
J. S.
Good beer, great food and roof terrace. Arrive around 4pm to get a space on the roof before the after-work crowd can.
R. S.
Amazing bar. Great for dates. Excellent gin selection. Great menu. Booking recommended
