Reviews of The Duke of Wellington

Delicious and family friendly roast. The food is prepared on site as opposed to bringing in; is well seasoned and tasty. Nice atmosphere, families welcome
D.
One of the best reasonably priced pub food, what a hidden gem. The food was amazing, drinks good and the staff were lovely. Definitely will be coming back!

This pub is quite a gem. I've been passing it by for a while and was lucky to get a table without reservation on a Sunday evening. The menu is fairly small, but the food that we had was absolutely delicious. Sunday roast as well as the fish option were nicely complemented with fresh roasted sides and reasonably priced drinks. Overall a great place with delicious food, great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would certainly visit again!

This is the place to go for a Sunday roast. The food and service were spectacular. The wine and cocktails paired perfectly with the cozy ambiance. We were in London for a week and this was our favorite meal during the trip, we can't wait to go back!

A lovely pub with great decor.
We had a lovely pint of Purity bitter here on Saturday.
We went there at lunchtime and everybody else was there for the food. The food did look good but we weren't hungry at the time
E. B.
Great service and food in a lovely neighbourhood pub. All four of us enjoyed our food, which is no easy task. Able to taste a few wines before selecting the bottle, which went down so well we ordered a second. Also recommend the sister pub in Southwark. Hope to be back soon at either venue!

I booked an outside table for somewhere to have a drink and a meal after the cricket. The staff were very attentive and helpful, the beer was good and the food excellent. The only downside was the noise from a group of cricket supporters, there just to drink, but little the pub could do about this.
P. B.
A fantastic pub with the emphasis on great food , beer and a high quality wine list. The staff are super friendly and a very warm welcome awaits. Look forward to returning very soon.

We had a family birthday party here recently and it was fantastic, had the room upstairs and the staff decorated and set up beautifully. The food was delicious and everyone had a brilliant time :)

Excellent Sunday lunch and great choice of ‘roasts’ etc. Good vibe and friendly staff. I highly recommend DoW Crawford St, Marylebone
J. S.
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. They managed to fit us in, but booking beforehand is probably sensible. The burger was delicious.
M. M.
Nice pub, good beers and burger

Had a group of us in to celebrate the birthday at the weekend and delighted we picked the Duke to start the evening off. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating, were happy to ensure we got a well covered outdoor table in case the rain came and there was a really good atmosphere there aswell. The food was lovely, the Duke of Wellington burger I went for and it was superb, all of us were happy with what we ordered and will be back to try out more of the menu. Good selection of beers and spirits, will definitely be returning again soon!

Awesome pub, used to visit all the time when I worked in the area and now it's even better

Enjoyed a fab mid-week dinner here. I had the beef tartare my girlfriend had the burger and both were absolutely spot on. Service was faultless. Beautiful spot for alfresco dining and drinks in the summer.

I went for dinner with my two grownup daughters just before the most recent closure in mid-December. We ordered different main courses (hamburger, steak and fish) and all were perfectly prepared and very tasty. We assumed the hamburger would be good, but did not expect the meat and the fish to be so delicious. We had not planned on ordering dessert, but ended up with two and the fact that there was nothing left showed how good they were. In summary, the dishes from start to finish were much more sophisticated than assumed reading the menu!

Thanks to lockdown The Duke of Wellington now has more seating outside, with plenty of canopy cover if the weather is inclement. Food has retained it high standard, and we all tried different mains. Hard to beat their Sunday roasts, and they have a selection of tasty starter/snacks - best being the crab. It's a great location, very good food, great service from friendly and dedicated team.
November 2020: Recently reopened after a complete refit, with same manager (who is very good). Same friendly atmosphere, good beers and an excellent menu. Sunday roasts are back to their old, excellent form. It's been well worth the 4 year wait. Outside tables along Crawford St. Restaurant on 1st floor but you can request a table on ground floor. The starters are all excellent. Lovely mains, and desserts, and cracking coffee. Worth a visit.

Friendly and alert staff, food was fine and interesting choice of beers and wines. Prices fair for London

Absolute legends!!! Tables outside were all booked, however we were over the road just in case there was a no show....and there was. Nadia came over the road to see if we still wanted a table, which we did, Nadia and her team were AMAZING!!! All of them, very accommodating. Great team, all.of them!!! Must go!!
N. O.
Amazing food! The Saag paneer Wellington roast was amazing not a veggie but had to go for it and it didn't disappoint! Will be a regular for roasts now!

Darren & Nadia lead a wonderful team, especially the super friendly Lilly. The food is exceptional, which is coupled with a very strong wine list, even for a Gastropub of the high standard. An excellent selection of craft beers as well and some surprises. The steak tartare remains as great as ever and whatever they seem yo put on toast is a winning formula! Some delightful dishes to be had through the week and always high level cooking. Delicious Sunday Roasts with some delightful accompaniments, as great way to spend a relaxing Sunday with the church bells of St. Mary's Marylebone chiming in the square behind. Idyllic!

Just passing through the area ,went for a quick drink ,the staff and especially Suzie ,the lady with the dark bob mentioned before , provided, great service very friendly and helpful ,drinks reasonably priced for the area ,and even the clientele. friendly .I stayed longer then intended ,would definitely recommend , and will visit again ,thank you to Suzie and the team for a nice time

Always get great service at The Duke' the food is great and their is decent wine list.
T. S.
As always had an excellent meal. Empty inside at lunch-time, but I am sure it will fill up soon. Hamburgers as good as ever. Service good.
I. A.
While brand new and attractively styled, next to a lovely backlit church, with outdoor tables mostly protected against rain, the service is subpar, especially for larger parties. When paying - double check you haven't been charged for other's drinks; inexperienced and undertrained staff will happily double down and argue with you. Having said that, beer and wine are gastropub quality and as long as you avoid complex tab arrangements, it should be fun. Tables can be reserved on their website. It is on the route of football fans going to Wembley, so on game days you will be extra entertained.
L. M.
Best Sunday roast in London and wonderful service from the staff. Can’t wait to return.
G. A.
Feels like it never went away. By far the best pub in the area. Great food and lovely atmosphere. Short but keenly priced wine list. Years ago it topped many of the 'best' lists and now back with the same management it deserves to top the lists again.
C. H.
My new favourite pub in London.
Really fun and affordable place. The food is amazing, and the wine selection is eclectic! Thanks again Steve and the rest of the team for the fun night on Friday :)
Y. S.
Great food and drink. Hard working bar staff.
P. H.
Great little pub, friendly atmosphere and good food. Good selection of wines.
C. R.
Absolutely perfect Sunday roast at this newly reopened local favourite. Love the refreshed interior, the food was extremely high quality (husband called it "maybe the best Sunday roast I've ever had". So pleased to see the Duke back in action.
D. A.
Warm and welcoming. Food was delicious, however the mash quantities with the pie was minuscule and the side of buttered greens was effectively undercooked broccoli stalks and a few leaves. But would definitely return for another meal.
J. O.
A real surprise in a corner of Bishopbriggs. Lovely food, great service in a glam authentic feeling decor.
F. C.
Great pub food and nice outdoor seating
S. W.
Really fun atmosphere with Marathon finishers galore.... good food and very friendly team.
V. M.
Always enjoy a drink here.Very friendly staff.
M. W.
A nice enough pub. Seems more focused towards lunch or dinner. There is another dining room open on Sundays for a roast.
Decent beer selection, and a big wine list. Food was good, and OK prices.
Outdoor seating looks like it would be really nice in the summer.
No TV screens from what I could see, so if you are after a game might not suit.
Best to book ahead for lunches.
Service was OK
M. M.
Great pub, perfect for a drink, dinner but the best-in Sunday roast-beef I've tried in London is here! Warmly recommended.
N. B.
This is a wonderful pub, popular with loyal locals, doing their best to comply with goverment Covid-19 restrictions and then some dim wit leaves a 1 star review, based 6 people not being able to sit and drink, due to restrictions out of their control, because they feel a bowl of chips shared between 6 people is a substantial meal. Be ashamed of yourselves. Long live The Duke and our Marylebone local.
a. l.
Wow absolute banger of a Sunday roast that , Nadia and the team were super accommodating for us at short notice too. Cant wait till it’s fully open highly recommended
J. T.
The Duke of Wellington is a great pub a short walk away from Marylebone or Baker street tube stations.
It has a charming traditional (yet not old man) pub feel to it. The staff are generally helpful and you just feel like you can relax and enjoy there superb selection of wines, real ales and.. their great fish and chips. The food menu is good, but I would recommend their fish and chips which they are renowned for. If you're very hungry, their freshly baked bread is also a good way to start your dining experience. It often comes warm and the real butter just melts into the bread.
Conclusion
It's a basic meal and not Michelin starred, but this is a great pub to enjoy a casual meal and well worth a try when in the area.
V. T.
Both the service and the food were excellent.

Confused by some of the negative reviews here — staff lovely and fun, food interesting and delicious. What a find!

We had a lovely dinner at the newly decorated Duke of Wellington. Great food and atmosphere in a tasteful setting.
V. N.

Really lovely meal good atmosphere will go again

Excellent. Phil's food is exceptional as is the atmosphere as are the Bloody Marys. We took two neurologists flown in from USA for a conference last Sunday;had been before so were confident that we were in safe hands. Thanks. Going again in March.
J. F.
Really excellent food, and I mean excellent, not "good for a pub"!
M. K.
Good spot for a pint and bite to eat.
Friendly staff and decent outdoor seating

Duke of Wellington is a cosy little pub in the hearth of Marylebone, serving traditional British food with a modern twist. The drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are all very friendly and helpful.
My mates are sort of addicted to this place and come here every week, but I really have no the time to do so. Of course, I've no problem in rating it with the highest rating.
M. L.
If youre looking for good food, good service and good atmosphere, the Duke of Wellington is your place. The service here screams of professional elegance whilst the food shouts with its sophisticated flavours and unashamed simplicity.
On my last visit I tried the Ham Hock and Wild Mushroom Tagietelle , priced at £14. It was worth every penny. The pasta, which was well cooked, clung to the elegant sauce well, and made for a well rounded wholesome and good value dish. For dessert I had their signature Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was the best I've tried. The banana ice cream accompaniment was simple and thoughtful.
The wine list is full of hidden gems at manageable prices. A Bourgogne Aligote at £22 is the highlight. By the glass the choice is big and varied. Try a Sangiovese, or settle for House, they're all tasty and well thought out.
Marylebone, and London more generally, has needed a place like this for a while. A place where drinkers and foodies mix in a gastropub without any pretention from one or the other. More often than not gastropubs like to favour foodies over drinkers, but not here.
Try the Sunday lunch, it's divine, but book early. This place is no longer a secret and gets very busy, all of the time.
You wont regret it!

We had a great evening. Staff were very accommodating and food was very good.
P. S.
It's reopened, totally new team and menu. Ignore any reviews prior to Oct 2020 as pub was shut for 4 years!

(Translated) Great food (probably the best ceasar salad I've had), large portions, good drinks and friendly service. Great place for a London pub.
