Reviews of The Golden Heart
T. B.
We've just spent the afternoon in the wonderful company of the owner Sandra.
My son and I had a couple of pints, and although my wife and daughter in law weren't drinking. Sandra, who had just arrived with her grandson, insisted in making a pot of tea for the girls, then sat with us chatting and made us so welcome. What a lady. The staff were also friendly and welcoming.
K. T.
Well what a pleasant surprise, finally a truly British Pub selling a simple Gin & Tonic - call me old fashioned but true G & T Drinkers want exactly that, no fancy flavours just a G&T. Apart from that you sit with locals & soak up the noises & smells of a traditional English Pub, no 1/2 dressed customers sat on the pavement outside. For me this was a very good find & I hope it stays this way.
K. A.
Another Eastend boozer but welcoming none the less. Full of locals enjoying the afternoon, made it feel even more friendly. Reasonably priced but short on seats so be prepared to wait to sit down. Roll on the summer when you can stand outside and enjoy the sites and sounds.

Great local pub with a fantastic history. The landlady, Sandra, is a legend - charismatic and full of energy! Great for a pint while exploring Spitalfields
D. H.
Typical old East End pub. Cosmopolitan clientele, from locals to people dropping in on a day out in London. And lovely bar staff.
E. B.
It’s so nice as a born and breed east Londoner to come into a pub and be welcomed by the most loveliest landlady. Absolute character
B. R.
The Golden Heart is London at its very best. A world class boozer with an authentic land lady, Sandra is a legend. She has deep roots in the community, is a patron of the arts, and a class act. This pub has been thriving for 40 years for a reason. Sandra doesn’t tolerate bad behaviour or disrespect - leaving a poor review is the equivalent of outing yourself as a total prat.
I. S.
Great place, the owner gave us wonderful tips on where to visit next in london
J. B.
Non pretentious, is what it is archetypal London boozer. Run (seemingly only by) landlady Sandra, who I believe has run the pub for decades. (Local accent - that’s rare and extremely authentic) - She’s fab.
You want posh and poncy (who doesn’t on occasions) go elsewhere. Plenty of that in London.
Want a decent pint, reasonably priced for London, and a bit of London character / come here.
Z. S. M.
Definitely a "if your face fits" establishment.
R. D.
A nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. The beer selection is a little poor by London standards, but the prices were good and the location is perfect for visiting the nearby market and shops.

Great old fashioned pub selling local beers next to Spitalfields market
L. L.
Lovely pub with a charming landlady - hope we both get our mobility issues sorted! 😊
T. L.
A fine pub in a vibrant part of town. It has managed the tricky business of moving with the times while remaining a proper boozer. I have read in other reviews that the staff can be rude, but all I can say is if that's the case, you probably deserved it. I love the place.
r. r.
I enjoyed a clean and comfortable atmospheric very friendly pub, I enjoyed my couple pints too, this pub is situated very close by to Old Spitalfield Market and Brick Lane, a ray of an assortment of shops to cater for everyone, go and give it a go!
Z. R.
Great pub, cool decor from Tracey emin, traditional London boozer.
M. F.
A nice little boozer, friendly staff and good quality beer. The pints of Landlord I had were very good.
R. C.
As usual the best pub in East London.. thank you Sandra
N. M.
Loved it... keep up the good work

Delightful landlady, a real pearl in the heart of East End

The Golden Heart is great east end pub that hasn’t let the tourism or hipsters change it. Sandra the land lady is something of a legend and employs only friendly staff. Open fires in the winter which is a special touch and shows most football games however not always with the volume on. It has a jukebox, piano and the normal selection of beers for a Truman’s brewery with brooklyn on tap. I love this pub and I love Sandra as this lady adopts the attitude that the customer is normally wrong and she isn’t afraid to let you know when you are wrong.
Z. S. M.
Definitely a "if your face fits" establishment.

Good spot with characterful rooms and nice staff from my experiences. Funny reading some of the other stuff on here as it sounds entertaining to witness but whenever I’ve been in with varying groups - young kids on the weekend, mates in an evening and in a band wanting to take photos in their gaff, I’ve always been accommodated. The pubs got real charm and is a gem. Piano in one of the rooms too.

We had a great night at this quaint old pub, which attracts a lively younger crowd. It's near Tracy Emin's studio and features some of her work; add that to the tasteful traditional decor and it's quite a lovely place to drink. The crowd was friendly and the busy barmaids were both genial and efficient. We drank on the cozy lounge side until past 11:00 when it became a bit too crowded for our taste, so we left, but we'll definitely be back.
B. K.
Great pub, been going for over 15 years.
Never terribly busy!
Y. B.
Pretty good beer and a classic English waitress - a place to go!
I. B.
I liked the authentic feel of this pub - a Truman's pub of days gone by selling bed from the new Truman's brewery. Sadly they had run out of a couple of real ales when I visited, but this may also be a good sign.
It was busy on this visit and getting to the toilets at the back of the pub could be tricky.
A varied jukebox but hearing the music on a busy night was difficult
C. F.
Had a decent night here watching a football game. Asked if they would switch the match on and they did. Also asked for sound, which they obliged. It was a slow night, so I don't think they minded making accommodations for us.
This pub is probably best suited for grabbing a pint after work with your mates, although it does have a handful of TVs if you want to pop in to watch a game.
P. M.
Proper old boozer but at inflated Spitalfields prices
S. W.
If you're going to get all upset because the bar staff's attitude ranges from indifference to outright dislike of their punters then probably go somewhere else. But if what the barmaid thinks of you doesn't bother you that much then this is a decent pub - free from all the horrible chain trappings, usually a couple of decent (if unspectacular) session cask beers.
J. H.
The lady who owns this place is absolutely hilarious. Don't expect good service, the chairs and benches are just horrible to sit on, but you can have a great laugh and a fine beer. Also a good place for watching football.
P. T.
Fantastic, busy, loud London public house. Uniquely positioned between Old Spitalfields and Brick Lane : this pub provides an excellent view point for the anthropologist in all of us. I have sat and stood outside this pub in every season, and it never dissapoints in providing a great spot for enjoying London's east end. Typically too busy inside during peak times, but this is simply indicative of it's popularity.
C. E. S.
This is a great local pub, with a local legend owner and her dog! The only thing that makes it less than 5 stars is that the bar staff has high turnover. So even though it should make an ideal local, you're never local here!
N. B.
Great for an after work drink.
N. E.
Funny ol' place, when it's good it's very very good ,when it's not....I go elsewhere. Never ever had a problem with the staff in 25 years of irregular visits but sometimes there are a few too many suits and ties in the bar. There is nothing obviously special about the place but...it just works
A. O.
Good pub, great service, lovely staff, perfect spot.. What more could you ask for.
R. M.
Been going for years. Lots of character and characters, it's easy to see how it divides opinion. It's a bit like the Coach and Horses when Norman used to run it. One of a dying breed sadly, hopefully Sandra will be around for a few more years to keep this institution running.
A. M.
Such a cute, cosy pub 😍
S. B.
Wonderful pub! Will always get a big fat thumbs UP from me :) Loveliest landlady and very friendly staff. Always a pleasure!
B. R.
Lovely traditional pub
N. W.
Cask beer as reliable as ever.
A. R.
My favourite pub in the world. Fantastic local pub - many happy memories in The Heart - perhaps an acquired taste for some. A proper pub.
N. W.
A proper pub that hasn't become trendified
D. T.
Very traditional local pub. Very pleasant when I visited, beer was good. Everyone was watching the football. Fine.
J. M.
Pub is the definition of ok, but is one of the few pubs locally to show the football. Landlady is batsh*t crazy (spurs fan so what do you expect?)
K. T.
Comfy pub with good beer. The lady running the show was very friendly and gave us suggestions on where else to go on our stay.
D. H.
Clean and generally nice to sit in. Has music on but it's a shame they couldn't serve the cask pints I asked for, needs better stock rotation if they run out and can't serve something on a Monday afternoon
D. B.
Nice pub
P. B.
Still the best.
N. B.
Great old-school pub. Genuinely cool. Good ale. Great photographs. Legendary landlady. Quirky.
C. O.
I like the atmosphere in this place, and that it has stayed the same since I started drinking there 15 years ago while everything else around Spitalfields has changed.
L. H.
Good pub to go to with character to the building! On the smaller side but the lady that runs it is sweet.
P. C.
Great unspoiled boozer - Sandra is a character as is the building. Excellent beer kept well.
B.
A decent boozer for a pint. Personally I think there are better options nearby but I wouldn't say no to a drink here.
S. D.
I like this place, the beer is OK, the staff are charming and there is wood everywhere like an episode from cash in the attic, a classic London boozer
D. R.
Excellent local. Unique service and atmosphere. Busy all day at weekends and most weeknights. Great spot to watch the world go by.
F. D.
Alright, nothing that would make go here other than location though
