Reviews of The Guildford Arms

Food very nice. Staff very friendly, Nice garden
O. A.
The food really was top quality, with generous portion sizes :) I'd really recommend going into the garden, as it was really well decorated and pretty !
And of course the staff were perfect.
I. G.
Delicious food, Morden and light interior, big and very welcoming garden, a wide range of drinks. This is a real gastro pub, a new generation pub! Absolutely loving it.
L.
Guildford Arms has lost its heart sadly, the filoxenia of Greece. Guy used to come out of the kitchen to say hello, and his cooking is as good as ever, so please pop out Guy. Sadly the bar staff decided the place was closed at 2245, so with no warning we couldn’t get a last drink. And we’d had such a lovely evening. So silly to say ‘the bar staff had gone home’ when they were sitting there. Even worse, to be made to feel a bit guilty, being told ‘ they didn’t normally open on a Monday’. It was their choice to offer a Valentine Menu on a Monday! We are far from first time visitors, very short sighted.. the food is great though.
S. D.
We love this place! Food is 10/10 everytime and the staff are incredible! Baby friendly too! Best food in Greenwich for sure.
J. N.
Wonderful outside space, all staff absolutely nailed it with friendly smiles, menu knowledge and efficient service. Our entire party was really impressed with the food, the service and the ambiance. Definitely one to keep going back to.
P. E.
Absolutely perfect night at The Guildford Arms. Food was exceptional, the beer was brilliant (they serve Peckham brewery beers) and they have done a superb job of creating a rather classy outdoor eating area.
What could have been a dreary beer garden is a perfect outdoor eating experience for these werid times. Each table is covered and heated .. no hesitation in recommending sitting outside.
Staff were friendly and attentive but not too much.
D. S.
The food was ok ( just that) but it was the staff attitude which let it down most of all. Three of us sharing a large mezze and when we asked for an extra piece of pitta as there was only one - the request was met with what I would describe as consternation and stern warnings that we would be charged ( we were charged £3.50). We were told by the manager that the chef gets cross about these requests. I don't think they were home baked pitta breads!
M. L. A. A.
Lovely as usual. This was our 5th recently visit, always happy. Great service. Food superb, we love their steaks, pork, lamb, burger. Desserts are fine as well. Fantastic to have a place like this just a stone thrown from home.
k.
Amazing food!! Every time I go they seem to have a completely different menu. Great decor and amazing pub garden.
M. V.
Great veggie mezze and the aubergine with crispy roasted chickpeas. Large heated outdoor space. Really enjoyed it and we will be back after the lockdown!
f. m.
Went for Sunday roast.
Nice garden to eat in, if you don't want to be inside.
The food was OK and the prices reasonable for area.
R. T.
Lovely pub, amazing garden, lovely people and good service. The food was very average for the price, even with EOTHO. Would definitely go back for drinks as I am local but food, not so much.
V. P.
A lovely pub in Greenwich, slightly off the beaten path, but offers modern decor, and a lovely pub garden. The Sunday roast is not bad and the children's portion a good size for hungry kids or not so hungry adults.
J. G.
Managed to get a last minute booking here .
From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like old friends. We were seated at a lovely covered table with a heater(despite the sun shining it was cold) The craft beer selection was varied and the food was exceptional and great portions .My half of free range chicken in harrisa almost beat me as it was so big.
Almost.
We shared a mezze selection to start with fabulous fresh breads. We were too full for dessert.
We were supposed to be in Ibiza but our afternoon here made us forget about that for a couple of hours.Even the downpour as we left didn't dampen our spirits.
Fantastic friendly service will ensure we will return many times.
N. S.
The food was very nice however the wait for the food was unbelievable - over an hour. When we highlighted this to staff they indicated this was normal and even with a covid spaced every other table layout seemed unable to cope. I'd come again if I wasn't hungry and aware I would have to wait
R. B.
New owners recently reopened this stylish gastro pub in a wonderful period building. Well cooked interesting menu, vegetarian options and at least one good traditional ale.
J. W.
Very welcoming for friendly dinner. Love the growlers of beer and the well conceived menu. Portions were generous, my big chunk of.halibut was very good value......maybe a bit overcooked for my taste butnthats quibbling.
A. B.
Enjoyed a great heat at home birthday meal. Food was delicious and the whole thing was a lovely treat to make the day special during lockdown. Looking forward to being able to come back to the restaurant once it’s allowed to open again this week. I highly recommended this place.
T. W.
Popped in for Sunday lunchtime - had the fish and vegetarian options - they were very good. Service was friendly. Would definitely visit again - but probably with the aim of eating rather than just going for a drink.
R. M.
Great pub all round. The garden area is fantastic as is the inside.
Beer selection on tap is great, good selection of local stuff.
Finally good is fantastic, would highly recommend!
B. R.
What an amazing pub - staff are friendly and helpful, the kitchen has some great talent and they have an unreal draft cider - Umbrella Cider
With heaters under every table and marquees for the rain you can book knowing you aren't going to be shivering while enjoying an afternoon/evening out!
G. C.
Enjoying fabulous lunch out @guildfordarms_ on London's hottest day so far #londonlife #charcuterieboard #meze #hottestday
J. S.
One of my favourite gastro pubs. Not cheap, but very good food, lovely staff and heated/covered outside dining. Thoroughly recommend
i. P.
Just went for a drink. £5.70 a pint. Nuts £4. Then would not accept cash despite nó indications they wouldn't. In between, staff patról ling and eyeing you with their tablets with subtle pressure to buy more /leave. Makes you feel líke a commodity. Very stylish through for those who aren't bothered by these things.
B. F.
Second visit here in the last three years (well there was a lockdown). Possibly the best front of house staff of any local. A focus on quality food suppliers and attention to detail, means we will return.
J. G.
The venue, atmosphere and service is excellent so you anticipate the food to be the same. Unfortunately it just wasnt up to par with everything else. Chips were the skinny fries a la a famous fast food chain, presentation was kinda thrown together and overall just underwhelming. Will return for a drink to enjoy the garden area, again couldn't knock the service. I hope owners and management invest more time in the kitchen, at least offer hand cut chips. 😁
O. A.
Just had dinner at the refurbished Guildford Arms and I loved it.
Menu had a wide range of sizes of dishes and I was hungry so I tried a lot! Hummus and pita bread was lovely as was the cheese pickle and bread. Also had the olives which had a very fresh tasting extra virgin olive oil on them.
Onto mains, I had a cheese burger, burger was enormous. I do recommend they change the bun used for the burger to brioche or something softer. I was cutting pieces of the cheese plate into my burger so all was well.
Finally pudding, bread and butter pudding with orange custard. Was the custard going to be orange in colour or orange in flavour? It was orange in flavour and really good.
Drinks were served quickly and the staff was always available. Maybe a little to eager to clear plates and overall helpful.
Beautiful space on inside, can’t wait to see it in the spring/summer.
S. O.
The food was great and pub renovations are really nice !
J. D.
First trip to a pub in a while and the team on tonight made it a really great experience. Swift service, covid friendly and all that stuff, good beer and great chips. It's good to be back.
M. G.
Lovely pub with huge outdoor area. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Good selection of beers too. Unfortunately, there aren’t any vegan food options on the menu (other than sides) and vegetarian options are very limited.
S. E.
Really enjoyable lunch today with my daughter; tasty food for vegetarians. Peaceful, garden setting on a hot day with attentive, efficient service. Thank you 👏
S. J.
We live locally and were excited to try the renovated Guildford arms. The new layout really works and the bar is well stocked with some good local beers on tap. The food was excellent with a good variety and choice, the staff were attentive and engaging. We will definitely come back and can’t wait to try out the new garden.
T. H.
The pub has only recently reopened after refurbishment so we were prepared for things to be a bit disorganised, but we had a really pleasant dinner tonight – we didn’t experience anything like the other reviews that are on here.
Great new bar on the ground floor and nice new glass eating areas looking out onto the garden. Really helpful, chatty wait staff who seemed eager to provide a professional service.
We had three good beef burgers and a very tasty beetroot burger. And the bread and butter pudding and custard was excellent. A couple of slightly meagre and overpriced snacks/starters, but otherwise would definitely recommend. We will be back – it’s nice to have another good Greenwich local pub and restaurant.
K. R.
Extremely friendly service, a little slow at times but very busy currently. Small but delicious menu with good range of drinks, portions were perfect and not too big. Would happily return, especially as on the eat out to help out scheme.
M. B.
Lovely pub/restaurant which offers table service, the food is very good, the staff are friendly, there is a big beer garden although you may want to reserve a table when the sun is out as it gets very packed
D. B.
They have nailed the outdoor dining here. Simple yet quality menu and super friendly service. Well done. We had a great night!
m. m.
One of my favourite places to eat in Greenwich, always fresh, tasty dishes made with seasonal ingredients. It is no wonder the place is so highly rated. The Chef must be very talented.
Today I had the gnocchi, mozzarella, spinach and asparagus with a beautifully fresh and light home made tomato sauce.
I wholeheartedly recommend
B. T.
Excellent ambiance and food. I cannot recommend enough and will be back for sure.
S. M.
Great local beer selection. Great food. Outdoor seating area is very special.
F. M.
A bit overpriced but good food and good selection of wine and beers.
J. H.
This place bangs! Great for date night, nicely decorated, beer garden, super clean and good food. Ashame their not showing the football, put a request in yesterday. 😫
R. M.
Fantastic venue for a Sunday lunch, went with a group of friends where the food was superb and the service also even during the torrential downpour … definitely recommend!!
L.
One of the nicest pubs I've been to in London but very disappointed in the lack of vegan options on the menu. The garden has a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely.
D. A.
Two visits this week! An excellent Sunday roast with all the trimmings and a lunch time visit with some colleagues. We enjoyed the great selection of local beers we very well looked after by all the team.
Fabulous refurbishment!
A. W.
Really great food and lovely staff. We come back regularly to enjoy the differs t menus and always enjoy everything We have. A little off the tourist trail too which is brilliant.
J. M.
Absolutely delicious food - simple but very high quality - served by super friendly wait staff in the pretty garden. Great atmosphere. Very highly recommended.
R. R. S.
We had an extremely embarrassing and quite frankly disappointing time [24/11] at the Guildford Arms and really felt the need to write a review regarding it.
Our aunt was excited to take us here since its reopening and has been there many times before. We researched the menu extensively and was excited to try it out. However, when we walked in we were treated with customer service to the extent that we felt compelled to leave.
As we entered, we asked for a table for three and they asked whether we made a booking. We did not make a booking but the waitress checked to see if there were any free seats and passes with who seemed to be the manageress. The manager looks at us and shakes her head to the waitress. The waitress then comes back and states the pub is ‘too busy to serve food’ to us.
We were quite shocked as the pub wasn’t exceptionally busy or booked out. In fact, there was a table on the right that had enough space for us and the kind woman sitting on the table for six alone stepped in and said we could (the three of us) sit with her.
Immediately after that a different waitress put a ‘reserved’ sign on that exact table. Why was the table reserved as soon as we began to sit down? When we talked to the waitress she said it was fine we sat there and removed the reserved sign. This whole situation was extremely confusing for us as customers. We sat down on the table (with the other customer) but felt extremely awkward and decided to leave.
One can’t help but think, considering the emptiness of the restaurant and the negative attitude we faced from the manager, that we experienced a form of racism. Having felt excited this morning to try out the Guildfords Arm’s new menu and sit in the newly renovated restaurant, we left with a an extremely dampened mood.
We are writing this to warn others about the experience we faced. We hope this was not a form of racism but merely mismanagement but can’t help but feel our race or image had an impact on it.
A. L.
Glad it's reopened. It's pricey, and the food isn't quite what it was 3 or 4 years ago when it was a bit more "fine dining", but there's a good spacious beer garden.
L. K. R.
I visited this pub on the first Saturday after lockdown ended and I was very impressed this is not your traditional pub this is more of a Gastro pub but it has the most fantastic garden lots of outdoor space multiple levels and it has a small range of beer it’s more of a wine type place, but I can honestly say if you are looking for a place to have a meal with friends or family or take someone on a date this is the place to go!
E. C.
Nice newly done pub, food was good and nice staff
G. O.
This lovely place has the best Covid-19 safety procedures I've yet encountered. The staff are clued-up and do everything right. And that's in addition to the excellent attentive service and lovely food.
K. M.
Excelent food. There is not too many choices on the menu, but everything we ordered was perfect. Very good and helpful staff.
J. S.
Lovely place, great food and beer, with a spacious outdoor area. The only downside is that it feels more like a restaurant than a pub right now but that could be due to social distancing.
K. M.
Excellent bar with fantastic staff, VERY well worth the visit! Get the Peckham Pills, if you like beer, you deserve to treat yourself!
R. D.
Good service and food. Could use a slightly bit more variety on the menu and a better set of kids options . It’s because of that we don’t go too often.
D. M.
Food really good. Very safe environment - all coronovirus rules followed. Lovely outside space. Friendly, efficient staff. Would definitely recommend.
L. B.
Beautiful food, cocktails and a desert to die for.
J. L. M.
Gastropub with lovely garden. Excellent food.
N. S.
Nice modern traditional decor, good choice of beers and tasty food. The burger was excellent. Friendly service. Fairly quiet on a Saturday lunchtime.
L. P.
Great food (mezze boards in particular) and a beautiful garden setting. All very well set up with distanced tables. Beers all local
A. T.
Great atmosphere, friendly service and most importantly food was very good and reasonably priced
S. A.
Great local beers and a lot of effort into the food and service. Pricey but feel like they're making it worth the money.
S. J.
Great food ,attentive staff and nice atmosphere.....hidden gem in Greenwich
F.
Excellent food and excellent service. Couldn’t ask for a better local! Dogs are allowed in the bar area and in the garden.
C. F.
Very good food, the atmosphere is less warm than in other pubs though, and the furniture on the outside is quite damaged.
N. C.
Nice beer garden. Good food. Great beer selection. In the slightly pretentious grey area in-between a gastro-pub and a restaurant.
A. A.
Burger is not as good as it used to be before the pub was refurbished. Disappointed :(
C. R.
Great outdoor space with heaters and cover galore! Great local beer selection and menu too my half chicken with jerk seasoning and salsa was delicious
J. J.
A nice place to have a semi-nice dinner if you feel up to it. A little too sterile for my tastes but I see the appeal. The food was good quality and tasty, but definitely grown-up priced.
K. S.
Deserves its place in the list of top ten places in London for a Sunday Roast
M. B.
Terrible bar service. Nice generously sized beer garden. Foodie pub.
A. H.
A little gastro pub tucked out of the way. The decor is clean and the staff friendly but each time I go it feels a bit souless. I haven't eaten here so I can't speak to the food or the prices.
N. A.
Really good high end pub. Food is exquisite. Atmosphere very nice
M. P.
Great food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely going back!
J. B.
Great place for Sunday lunch, excellent roast chicken. Friendly, cosy ambience, with good service and attentive staff.

T. F.
Very nice quality food, classic decor and family style environment very welcoming.
V. S. (. L.
Lovely food and managed to slot 6 of us in despite we had not booked in the day of the south London marathon. Very good service and a beautiful beer garden for the summer. The restaurant upstairs is lovely
E. C.
Good sized and pretty looking pub garden. Staff are very friendly.
K. E.
Very good service and delicious food! They were very aware of allergens and the entire meal was very enjoyable.
A. F.
Good food and nice beer garden, been many times and will continue to return
T. M.
Lovely place, delicious food, good beers, beautiful beer garden!
R. P.
We went to the upstairs restaurant. This is a place will go one of two ways: either a fantastic place that closes that you should have gone to or somewhere you can never get a table for love nor money... I'd advise going and make up your own mind.
A. S.
Lovely meal, lovely staff, a very nice experience all round. Very accommodating. Will definitely come back. Thank you!
S. W.
Absolutely delicious food; will be returning again and again. Don't be put off by anything else - the food is the main event here
J. T.

J. B.
Great place for Sunday lunch, excellent roast chicken. Friendly, cosy ambience, with good service and attentive staff.
R. B.
The new restaurant Upstairs at The Guildford Arms really is something else; stunning, unique food really creatively presented!
As good as it gets in South London!
T. P.
The best food, and the best pub garden, in all of Greenwich. No better place to be on a sunny day, enjoying one of their seasonal cocktails in sprawling grassy garden; the menu for their upstairs dining room is outstanding as well.
S. A.
Great local beers and a lot of effort into the food and service. Pricey but feel like they're making it worth the money.
C. F.
Very good food, the atmosphere is less warm than in other pubs though, and the furniture on the outside is quite damaged.
D. B.
A lovely pub with a fabulous roast - beef is the best! The back garden looks inviting so will definitely return for the summer!
S. B.
I know I've left reviews before. But tonights steak was amazing. I Would say 100 pc perfect. Service brilliant.
E. J.
Nice quiet pub with lots of outdoor seating
G. Q.
Great place for a pint, good selection of beers and spirits.
A. A.
Excellent gastropub. Simply the best I've tried in London. Mixes pub classics with a few high cuisine components. Very tasty, still very cheap for such quality. Mains typically vary between 12 and 18 pounds. Food tastes better on less busy days.
K. H.
Great little pub with amazing food!
M. G.
Fantastic pub recently refurbished with a great vibe, lots of staff on hand and considerate Covid-19 measures in place, I highly recommend
C. M.
A quiet little pub.serving good food
L. L.
Good food but unfortunately really poor service
J. W.
Great burger, with really good homemade celery infused ketchup. The inside of the pub itself feels rather bare and empty though.
L. M.
I go there sometimes after work to chill and have a quick drink, staff is polite and the place is tidy and well kept. Absolutely far from the "average" pub you might expect in London.
Their range of custom housemade cocktails is delightful and the back garden is superb during summer, a very hidden gem in the heart of Greenwich
C. H.
High quality food! Value for money
R. D.
Even the food in the pub area is top notch. Prob best in the Greenwich/blackheath area.
K. M.
Delicious Sunday roast I had lamb it domes with a beautiful Yorkshire pudding! Book in advance this place fills up! There are also very friendly staff
K. O.
Really happy to have discovered The Guildford Arms, it's a fantastic pub. Tucked away in a quiet location not far from Greenwich station. The food is well above your standard pub fare but fairly priced and the service was excellent. The staff are very helpful & friendly. The garden is an added bonus , large with nice seating areas. We will be be returning for sure.
T. P.
The best food, and the best pub garden, in all of Greenwich. No better place to be on a sunny day, enjoying one of their seasonal cocktails in sprawling grassy garden; the menu for their upstairs dining room is outstanding as well.
N. J.
Similar to previous reviewers excellent food however tiny portions...two small scallops accompanied by two one inch pieces of asparagus was pityful...however taste was fantastic ...slow roasted pork belly excellent and fortunately a fair sized portion... five slices of cheese with a teaspoon of chutney hardly represents six quid etc etc ..so all in all ...great tasting food but no value whatsoever..£100 inclusive of one bottle wine for two hardly warrants going home hungryish...pity as must repeat taste was superb...don't believe an additional scallop or two plus say 2 inches of asparagus would dent the bottem line much !!!
A. P.
Great atmosphere, food and outdoor area
A. B.
Excellent service. Good dining room
A. P.
Great beer garden and really nice food!
D. G.
Really nice spot for a bite on a sunny afternoon. Plenty of space, nice atmosphere and good staff.
S. B.
Really delicious food, fresh simple and well executed. Ham hock starter was hot, crispy and succulent. The plum purée and apple slaw also fantastic. Burger was good and tasty but not head and shoulders above other burgers. Overall a really good experience and an out of way find.
P. J.
The menu is short but sweet, but the bar i found lacking in variety; however, the draught beers that were on offer were good, locally sourced, and pleasant.
The service perhaps left a little something to be desired, but once ordered, the food arrived quickly.
The battered haddock was beautifully cooked, flaky but not overdone, and the batter was light, crispy, and well seasoned.
The chips were crispy, seasoned, and fluffy inside, with a rich, almost nutty flavour.
The burger was delicious, with a slightly pink and very juicy centre, complement by a toasted bun that was, for once, not brioche. The salad in the burger was fresh and crisp, and complemented the large slab of flavourful beef that it sat below.
Overall a quiet, lovely local pub with superb food and an "away from it all" atmosphere.
T.
A hidden gem. High quality ingredients, a small but perfectly formed menu and great service. The venison is amazing...
J. S.
Amazing people. Amazing food. Amazing wine choice. Amazing venue. Go there!
S.
Nice ambient!! The good itss TOP

(Translated) It is a pub that I love. Something expensive, but worth it. Go in summer, the terrace is sunny until late, and it is luxurious.
They also stop parties well. There we mounted some friends for dinner and again my daughter's birthday.

Es un pub que me encanta. Algo caro, pero merece la pena. Id en verano, la terraza tiene sol hasta tarde, y se está de lujo.
También bien paran fiestas. Allí montamos unos amigos una cena y otra vez el cumpleaños de mi hija.
