Reviews of The Havelock Tavern
I. S.
Lovely neighborhood pub in shepherds Bush. Excellent Sunday roasts. Choice of beef, chicken, pork belly and vegan Wellington. They also serve burgers and other choices on Sunday for those who do not wish to have a Sunday roast. Good selection of beers, dogs allowed and staff very friendly. Child friendly as well. Strongly recommend. Book in advance.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The Havelock makes me want to move to Kensington within walking distance. Wonderful kitchen, great beer, super friendly helpers. Amazing!
F. S.
Perfect pub. Food delicious. Look, I've worked in pubs in London for 3 years and visited lots of them, but believe me, this is the best food I've ever eaten in pubs in London.
I highly recommend and will definitely come back soon.

So lucky and relieved that this is my new local pub. Having lived in East London for the past 5 years just moved into Brook Green and The Havelock has been a refuge of great food, very relaxing atmosphere and fantastic beer selection.
Service is not only efficient and competent but just kind. It is the kind of place where you want to hang out on a weekend.
Great outdoors space too and best chips in town hands down.
Very dog friendly which is just another plus.
M. M.
Delicious food, great service! We’re very lucky to have as our local pub. Nothing to say about the food. We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert but no time for pictures 😂 recommend 100%

Are you looking for the perfect Sunday roast? If you are; look no further than The Havelock Tavern!
The atmosphere of the pub itself is nice and cosy. The staff are extremely attentive, so you are guaranteed amazing service.
Onto the roast itself; the pictures you see are completely real, and if you think they look amazing, just wait until you taste it! The Yorkshire pudding is the size of a house, beef perfectly cooked alongside the veg and the unsung hero, the gravy. Do be sure to book a table in advance as it can get quite busy.
You simply cannot go wrong when visiting The Havelock Tavern!

My, oh, my! This is what a gastropub should be!
The venue is lovely with a very quiet and shaded garden.
The food is excellent and well presented: we particularly liked the social crab and the curry
The service was excellent.
Our waiter was very professional, kind and has such a vivid way to describe the dishes you could taste them just listening to him.

Came for dinner and drinks after work on a Thursday. It was surprisingly quiet for a pub this good. Has seating outside and in.
Both of us enjoyed a full three course meal with us a testament to the quality of the food. The highlight was the bone marrow on sourdough, simply delicious.
Decent drinks selection and attentive staff.
S. T.
I absolutely love this pub. The food is delicious.. the vibe is friendly and chilled. The service is on point and it always feels very clean. They are super dog friendly too which is a must and makes the welcome even warmer.. its 5* from us!
L. t. m.
Such a familial atmosphere (dogs included). It’s that perfect neighbourhood pub where everyone is friendly, service is your best friend and the food is comforting and delicious.
B. S.
Wanted to try this place for some time. We went on a Friday night with a 7.30 booking. There are only 7 or 8 mains on the menu. When the waiter came he announced the fish and chips and sea bass weren't available! At 7.30 on a Friday! No explanation, so I had a burger instead of fish. Burger was ok, with a nice bun. Good chips if a little sparse. New waiter was friendly and attentive but needed to ask about things a lot, still we liked his style. The pub, less so. Maybe we'll try again, maybe not
D. P.
We had a weekday lunch over Christmas. Cost and warm setting with an open fire. Interesting range of dishes. I went for the vegetarian option and it was delicious with generous portions. The free bread and kids part bag was the icing on the cake. Pints under £5 too - bargain.
M. S.
lovely, super friendly, pub with nice terraces front & back.
Super Camden Pale Ale
Shepherd's pie & cripsy lamp+mint & deconstructed cheescake all look beautiful but don't quite merit Michelin entry
D. K.
We are from New York and are staying for a few nights in this neighborhood. We came here for Sunday roast (there were four left, just enough for the four if us!) And the food was spectacular! You should have heard us going "Mmmmm" nonstop! This was our best meal we had in London! You must eat here! Don't think twice! Food was outstanding and service was wonderful!
H. F.
Your perfect hearty, local pub! The food is great, they have an incredible shepherd's pie in autumn. The little terrace in the back is a great spot in the summer as well as winter as there's heating
t.
Upon entrance I found a member of staff who was very friendly and welcoming, he showed me to my table, the place was fully booked which I’m not surprised by as the food was superb! I recently moved to the area and my first time here and I’m very happy it’s my local. The roast pork was succulent, delicious and the crackling was perfect, The accompaniments of parsnip, carrots and Yorkshire pudding were cooked to perfection, so tasty. We had a desert to finish it off of Stem ginger pudding with caramel sauce which was a lovely end to a delectable meal. I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely be returning. Well done to the chefs because even though the place was completely full they managed to make a perfect plate.
C. l.
Have visited so many gastropubs for Sunday roast. And wow this is shockingly fantastic. Do not go for the beef. It’s good. But. Trust me as an anonymous person online. The vegetarian option of artichoke Wellington is by far some of the best thing I’ve had in a Sunday roast
E. D. C.
Lovely local gastro pub with delicious dishes, and outdoor seating. Their former duck (now chicken) dish is simply the best. Great friendly atmosphere and a great place to be, on any day. Highly recommended.
A. M.
The stumbled across The Havelock while walking back from Olympia. What a perfect pub, great atmosphere and décor, lovely beer and friendly staff. Is a great pity we can't afford to move nearby, but we did spend a bit of time looking😁. Next time we're up in London we'll be back.
B. E.
My friends and I have been to the Havelock Tavern a number of times before and it just keeps getting better and better.
It's a lovely looking pub... fresh and up-to-date with its decor whilst still feeling traditional, cosy and inviting.
The staff are fantastic... always professional and personable, and they couldn't do enough for us... great customer service.
And of course an establishment like this relies so much on good management, and the manager of the Havelock (Ron / Rob?) is a wonderful asset to the place.
A classic pub landlord archetype from a bygone era... welcoming, engaging and with just the right amount of friendly conversation, this portly, rosie-cheeked gentleman is obviously very experienced and respected and he helped to make our dining experience exemplary.
We ordered a range of starters and mains... the Lamb's breast as a starter was a stand out and our respective steak, monkfish and shepherds pie were all excellent.
And my goodness!... I myself had the Chocolate Honeycomb Mousse for dessert and it was incredible! I'm still thinking about it now!
So, an all-round great experience... the drinks / wine list were great, the food was outstanding and we couldn't fault the customer service.
Keep doing what you're doing Havelock and we'll keep coming back!!
Thank you.
D. B.
One of the best pubs in London. Spacious but intimate. Great staff, food and ale. Plus a warm fire and a friendly crowd of locals.
E.
Lovely pub with a good range of drinks, however, when attending their Monday night pub quiz the food menu was limited and the size of portion for the price (£16-18) paid was borderline robbery.
C. L.
Lovely pub. Worth a visit but had run out of three of its ales of you are going for this purpose. The remainder were light pale ales.
A. B.
Best food in West London, staff are lovely, and Rob the manager is an absolute star. Love this place, could not recommend highly enough.
T. N.
Little hidden treasure! Great menu choices, our meats were perfectly done and great tasting. Service staffs were most friendly and efficient. We Loved everything about this place!!
C.
It's not the easiest place to get to for a tourist, so I guess you can say you're 'getting away from the crowd'. Service was prompt, servings were not overly big, food quality was good, and drinks were equally good. They have a pet dog wandering around the place too, which was cute.
M. M.
Very nice and helpful staff.
Delicious food. Small portions.
R. T.
Just “rediscovered” the Havelock. Living round the corner have had this pub (and Bird in Hand across the street) as my locals for a number of years. However would only occasionally visit for want of convenience. Certainly the food was never anything to write home about. However, was told recently that Havelock was under new management and new chef so thought would give it a try and indeed what a different experience it is! from the friendly and accommodating staff to the cooking - the roast lunch was as good as I’ve had in a very long time and the portion size certainly the most generous. The wine list too covers all bases with a large selection by the glass. I sincerely hope they can keep up these high standards as I will definitely be visiting more often. My only fear now is with all the positive reviews I will struggle to get a table!
S. G.
Amazing food. It's one of those pleases where the food is so flavourful and we'll spiced you don't even think about using salt and paper or anything else. Lovely staff. Would come back any time!
A. M.
Good experience overall at the Havelock Tavern. We just move in the neighborhood and came for dinner, after the covid reopening. The food was good but too simple in my opinion for the price we paid.
We will probably come back but just for drinks.
A. C.
One of the best Sunday roasts we've ever had! Atmosphere is brilliant, staff smiley and friendly; the pub is a must! So happy to live in the neighbourhood! We'll definitely come back!!!
Great job guys! Thank you!
I. L.
A friend recommended I try the haddock and chips here and I am sooooooo glad I did. I think it was best I have ever had, and those mushy peas! Wow! A small pot of surprising mushy deliciousness.
It was a busy Friday night, the staff were welcoming and friendly; they accommodated me without a booking, the service was quick without being hasty, the Havelock Bitter was tasty, the ambience warm and welcoming. Just the job after a busy week. I highly recommend you venture to this pub.
B. O. S.
Excellent food. The sea bream was fantastic. It is a rather busy, and at times noisy place, but really worth the visit. I would recommend a table reservation.
A. B.
This is a lovely pub in the Hammersmith area, which has a homely yet sophisticated atmosphere and is well worth a visit. They seemed to do well with all COVID precautions and I felt entirely safe. However, the steak sandwich I ordered came with mustard mayonnaise - and this was not in any way clear on the menu. Such a shame as otherwise it was well cooked. After explaining the situation, I was able to get another free of charge...but whereas my original meal took 15 mins to arrive, the replacement took over half an hour. Still, four stars as the service was very friendly, and when the food did finally arrive, it was excellent!
Update April 2022 - so pleased that this pub has survived the pandemic. Have enjoyed the most divine sea bass and incredible buttery white chardonnay. Deservedly popular, pretty busy even on a Wednesday night. A jewel of the area!
C. L.
Really solid pub. Good food and generally the service is good. Have had to wait a while one or twice but they can be forgiven for this as the scotch eggs are delicious. Would recommend for a pint and bite in the sun.
L. S. C.
This is a true gastropub. Best roast I had in ages!
J. D.
Great pub, I photographed a wedding here and the staff were great and super chilled out. I'd happily recommend it.
J. P.
Too pretentious for my liking, but most will enjoy. Be prepared to pay over 6 quid for a slice of sausage roll tho!!!!
A. M.
Enjoyable, set expectations that the roast beef had been over cooked so appreciated that
G. W.
Great grub and atmosphere. Very friendly staff
B. D.
Appeared to have a good enough selection of beers and ciders. Food was very good. Scotch egg my favorite. Scallops great, but quite expensive for quantity. Staff were fine, if not particularly engaged with their work. Atmosphere was a little dull. Even for covid times.
L. D.
Great service and delicious vegan burger!
T. R.
We came here for Sunday lunch as a large group and between us managed to try all of the mains on the menu and do a good dent in the dessert too.
I have to say, my favourite thing is the gorgeous warm bread that comes with the dinners. That bread is pillowy soft and is just delicious. I could happily just order that with the cheese platter and be done.
The pork belly is delicious as is the beef roast dinner. The vegetables are cooked well and have a rich taste. My own criticism would be that they are exceptionally stingy with the gravy when you first receive your plate but they will provide you with a little more if you ask. Friends tried the vegetarian options and the fish and all thoroughly enjoyed their meals.
They are a dog and child friendly pub and the interior is as beautiful as the exterior. The staff are friendly and attentive and you can book in advance for a table which is always great.
I'd come again! Their general main menu looked really good too.
M. D.
Sylvia, Justin & Bill were awesome servers. Great atmosphere, people weren't on their phones they were conversational. Their only soup was good so was their bread and sweet butter. Their bottle of Italian wine was good. The prices weren't expensive at all. A great place to hang out.
S. E.
Great pub with almost invariably excellent food. Really relaxed atmosphere. You often have to share a table when they get busy, which is fine for me. They are really cool about dogs accompanying guests which is a big plus in my books. Only downside, it gets noisy when really full.
B. h.
A really good local gastropub. This is somewhere you want to take someone for a special meal, rather than the typical pub fare of Thai curry or batter and chips. Nice atmosphere, a popular haunt for families and locals, and the odd celebrity. Beer and wine range is pretty decent, prices are a little on the high side, but not excessive for the caliber of pub.
a. m.
My absolutely favourite pub in London. We come here fairly often since the food is really good. Love how the menu changes and the chef doesnt seem afraid to cook loads of different dishes. Its good they always have bavette, although we miss the chips as they used to make them a while ago.
K. C.
Cozy and small pub. virtually empty at around 6pm for a quick drink. went before dinner at bird in the hand and had a decent enough time with drink selection. food looked good as well, might have ordered if we didn’t have dinner plans. staff was quick and attentive.
H. R.
I think this might be the best pub food I’ve ever had in London. Actually in the country
Z. A.
OMG! The steak was amaaaaaaazing!
I only missed a classic cocktail like an Old Fashioned.
I also tried the mussels, croquettes and a kind of Panna Cotta for desert. Also really, really good! And for that quality of food reasonable prices. The bread that comes before the food is very nice as well!
I definitely recommend it.
M. M.
One of my favourite pubs. A great atmosphere with a fantastic ever-changing menu. Be sure to grab the mussels when they appear on the menu as they are amazing in combination with their freshly baked in house bread.
S. L.
Classic pub. A bit drafty by the door. Steak is quite good and properly cooked.
C. M.
A beautiful pub! Lots of space, a good selection of beers and really friendly staff. I had a very late dinner there, the staff were very knowledgeable about the food and were easily able to accommodate my lactose intolerance. It was a Saturday night, it wasn't too crowded and a really nice place to spend an evening.
A. T.
great pub. a group of 6 of us went in on Saturday night. the pub had a really nice atmosphere and the service was great. the food and drinks were spot on. I hadn't been here for a few years and it was just as good as before
T. J.
Great location, tucked into a nice, cozy residential neighborhood. Food was great, very well presented and portions were enough to fill but not stuff you. Staff was particularly friendly, especially if you sat at the bar. Would definitely return.
K. L.
One of my favourite pubs. Wonderful atmosphere. Wine list impressive for a pub. Amazing food. Freshly baked bread with your meal tops it all off nicely.
F. P.
Amazing Local pub, still to find a better one.
Since I've moved to Brooke Green it's my local, very nice room and bar, great terrace for sunny days, the food is amazing for a gastropub, and the homemade bread is a really nice touch.
Good selection of wines.
Fantastic overall
B. S.
Still one of the best pubs in London. Not fussy, just good beer, wine and excellent food.
Does anyone know where Jonny Haughton the ex chef patron of the Havelock is now? It’s his blueprint.
M. K.
Nice and cosy pub. The food is amazing there. Different menu each day, with all fresh produce, freshly cooked. Great staff!
Z. E.
The food here is super amazing! Lovely, friendly vibe from the staff - I’d be there more often if I lived nearer! Highly recommend.
C. B.
The Havelock Tavern simply has the best pub food i have ever eaten. yes it is busy and you can't reserve a table but time and time again the food here is excellent. I live over 5 miles away and still make the trip to come here as often as i can. it has a very local feel about it and is a gem hidden away. i am really surprised at all the bad reviews on here as this pub is as good as it gets.
R. T.
Great local - menu changes twice daily and great selection of beer/wines. Can get busy but have always managed to find a table. Big windows so it doesn't feel dark. Lovely atmosphere overall.
C. M.
We went on a Sunday so the only option is Sunday lunch. The trimmings were absolutely delicious. The chicken however was overcooked, the short beef rib was excellent. The wine and desserts were good.
L. G.
Great place to eat. Off the beaten track, which adds appeal. The chefs know how to cook and the food changes daily, which is a good sign. Good beers and OK wine list.
D. K.
best pub food and great ambiance.
D. L.
So good The Havelock Tavern is back again! Loved the new additions to the menu, food tasty as always and service brilliant.
R. C.
Nice and cozy neighborhood pub. A small but varied lunch menu that is high in quality. Good wine selection and available in multiple sizes
J. W.
Should be 4 out of 5
Would have been 4/5 but my friends dinner was cold. Which was a bit of a shocker. My steak was lovely though. Nice atmosphere if not a bit loud.
J. M.
This is a great little local pub. Very cosy, great service and selection of wine and beer. Food is fresh and delicious and the little outdoor space is very good also.
C. M.
Nice service and good selection of beer. Cosy atmosphere but a bit of draft from the door and the recommended wine was not appropriate for the meal. Would definitely go there again.
S. H.
I mourned the death of the Bird in Hand and further mourned its recent reincarnation. The Bird in Hand used to be my go-to local for a chilled pint or after work meal. Since it closed and subsequently re-opened as an odd, overpriced pizza place doing unimpressive pizza I've abandoned it after a couple of visits. The Havelock has taken up the mantle of the local boozer and its going from strength to strength. Decent ales, always good food (terrine - starter but I regularly have it as a main). Duck cassoulet, truffle risotto. All great, quite expensive but definitely great size portions. I used to think of it as the old Bird in Hand's slightly snootier brother across the road, but I've come to love it.
S. M.
Nice enough venue but £4.50 for a tiny bowl of chips is taking the mickey..
D. K.
Lovely atmosphere. The food is delicious, and service is friendly and fast. In summer months make sure you book in advance!
N. G.
Great gastro pub, make sure you book
C. A.
Love this place. Used to live in the neighbourhood (about 10 yrs ago). Hasn't changed a bit since then. Still one of my favourite gastro pubs in London.
A. L. B.
Absolutely fantastic !! The food, service, atmosphere all brilliant. Enjoyed 2 superb meals at the Havelock Tavern while in London for the weekend.
S. G.
Fantastic food, accommodating staff, good range of drinks. Our server Jack was attentive, friendly and bubbly.
M. B.
Lovely meal very good value for money
I. M.
I love my local pub. The crew is charming and switched on always on cue. The chef and the sous love their craft so much that it transpires in every dish. Second home.
A. T.
havelock's food cannot be faulted. the bread. the very affordable prices. quality and portion size... all top marks. and the fireplace in the cold months can't be beat. where it can improve is in the decor and atmosphere. i can't figure out what the layout problem is, but it can feel stuffy and noisy even if just a little busy. i also find my elbows become glued to the tabletop. that's how sticky it can be. and the toilet ... well, that whole area could do with some airing out and an air freshener that doesn't smell so heavy of disenfectant. all that said, havelock's a great meal to be had. some minor fixes to the environs will make it even better.
L. O.
Best pub in West London. Lovely staff especially Brian and best food. Love coming here and our usual local.
B. L.
My wife and I had our first Pint of Pride here on our London trip. A great place to visit - We did not get a chance to eat here but the food looked outstanding.
F. o.
This local favourite has be been updated recently and their outside space in the courtyard is amazing
S. W. A.
Fantastic food and lovely staff. Really keen to go back
A. “.
Decent pub, only warning is volume rises fast due to wooden floors and stark decor. Can be almost untenable at the weekend with the young family set in
M. B.
Decent food and very friendly staff and service. They also have a smal garden terrace which is great in the summer time.
O. B.
One of our local bars. My partner and I go there to have a glass of wine/beer time to time. Is a really nice place to hang around with friends/familiy and share some nibbles
C. S.
Friendly and comfortable pub in nice surroundings. I asked for my pint to be topped up, but when it arrived it was well worth waiting for. Thanks.
M. D.
Can't speak for the beer or wine, but my wife and I had a simply wonderful meal here. Definitely call ahead for a table, they seemed to all have been reserved.
A. C.
Change of owners? Been a number of times before and hoping this time was a one-off. Food and service were sub-par. Usually excellent all round. Left a bit disappointed!
k.
Rare breed meat sold at this pub all part of the conservation of farm animals that the common beef are bread from if you want to taste real meat then go look
P. L.
Been going here for years and rarely disappoints. For a pub, the veggie options are pretty good. FANTASTIC Sunday roast
C. J. T.
In a word Flashman. Beer fantastic. Great wine selection and wonderful food. I had gurnard followed by caramel chicken. Fantastic. Highly recommended
A. D.
Best roast dinner I’ve ever had. Still chasing the high of the roast chicken.

J. W.
Warm friendly pub. Charming staff. Decent selection of beers and ales. Good neighborhood feel. Worth seeking out.
A. S.
Great pub with a good atmosphere. Food is excellent - could do with a better selection of beer though.
N. Z.
A real London treasure. Exceptional food and excellent service. When we got there for dinner there weren't any tables available so had to wait a bit but it was totally worth it.
J. L.
One of the best pubs in town in my opinion. Great beers, amazing food and outdoors area.
L. H.
Great food and great service. What a place.
k. k.
Used to be excellent, but a small steak at £24.00. All average except the price.
A. P.
Very nice food! And friendly staff! Tacked away from the noise and traffic close to Brook Green
R. A.
Amazing food. Ok atmosphere. Friendly staff. Kitchen can be slow sometimes.
R. S.
Great staff, lovely venue and delicious food
K. J.
Cosy pub, good beer, over-priced food. Not the typical pub, too posh and elegant for a pub in my opinion
T. D.
Usually I stay in Kensington when in London for work, and I never miss a chance to eat at The Havelock. Everything is delicious.
p. c.
Nice place, loved the burger

Beautiful tavern with great food and many drink options! The staff is very nice and attentive and the food was tasty and was quickly served. Unfortunately there are not many vegetarian choices but the starters and side dishes are generously portioned. Definitely recommend!

Sunday roast wasn’t great, yorkshire pudding was dry dry dry, chicken tasteless only highlight on the plate was the stuffing. Be ready for the price…for what you get it’s just maybe rather skip

(Translated) Classic London pub with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent cuisine. Very kind and professional staff, they always find a place to sit even if the place is full. Simple dishes but very accurate and cooked with always fresh ingredients, excellent choice of wines and beers. I always go back during my business trips to London, my favorite neighborhood pub!
