Reviews of The Holly Bush, Hampstead
G. E.
Great service, classic English pub. My favourite dish was the burrata. Definitely a MUST try with the truffle popcorn. Pet friendly inside the pub. Food was good 👍🏻 but would love to have some pancakes or a french toast for Sunday brunches.
D. S.
This is a picture-postcard pub, slightly out of the town centre. A pretty small interior, partitioned into different areas, creates a very cosy environment.
Although it should probably be classified as a gastropub, it caters for casual drinkers and regulars, which is a real positive. Also you can get quality small food (albeit at Hampstead prices!!!) at the bar, which I also love.
Drink prices are high, even by Hampstead standards, which would make me rate it 4.5 stars, if that was an option. Lovely, professional staff, and the care for regulars, however, makes it deserving of 5 stars in my opinion.
I. A. H.
Cozy place with delicious food. Loved the octopus and steak. Great service from staff, particularly Saoud! Made my experience very enjoyable.
C. P.
Love this pub. Off the main road and full of life and g
History.
E. D.
amazing food (including for vegans and vegetarians) + the place is beautiful
V. J.
The most loveliest pub hosted by such welcoming staff. Food was delicious too! A must visit when in Hamstead
J. T.
The Holly Bush has been one of my favourite London pubs for many years and it still manages to delight. The age of the pub with its low ceilings and various spaces gives it a real cosy feeling. The bar area has a number of seating options with an open fire warming the room. There are other dinning rooms of varying sizes serving delicious gastro pub food. The sticky toffee pudding is a personal recommendation!
C. H.
Excellent Turkey roast the first Sunday of the New year...almost as good as my Mother's...a huge compliment!! Everything tasted of something...natural and wholesome. Cosy, relaxing, pleasing decor and great vibe.
M. M.
Wonderful pub that feels like you've stepped back in time 200 years. In my opinion the Holly Bush has the best pub food in Hampstead and has done for the last 10 years.
M.
It's a nice pub in a very beautiful part of London. Unfortunately the world's slowest service. First round of beers took 25mins to get to the table and even that was after I went up and asked if the beers were coming. Obviously for the part of London it's in the prices are expensive. Definitely doesn't match the service. I was thinking that maybe it was a covid thing... Lack of staff/experienced staff. Who knows.... Either way they're is room to improve.
D. H.
Real hidden gem in Hampstead! Beautiful pub with a spacious space upstairs for dining! We reserved for dinner for 4 and were surprised by the atmosphere! High ceiling, wonderful drawings on the wall and not many tables which gives it a special vibe! The food was also very pleasant! The truffle mac and cheese was our favorite!
Staff were very polite and friendly, making sure everything is alright ones in a while!
Absolutely recommend this place!
A. R.
A great lunch. Guinea fowl and lamb both excellent. Plus a fantastic Baked Alaska.
M. H.
Quality was good but portions were tiny. My lamb main was the size of a starter and I had to eat again because I left so hungry. Avoid if you want a good feed.
R. E.
THE quintessential Hampstead/North London/English pub experience. The atmosphere and location are unrivalled. My favourite pub in the world, throughout the year but particularly special with the windows open during hot summer days or curled up next to the fireplace after a brisk winter walk on the Heath. This place is special. Martin the manager was very friendly and accommodating when we had a large group recently.
E. J. L.
Food was a little bit bland to my taste. But the waiter who served our table was so kind (the lady in a pony tail and with glasses).
T. P.
Food and atmosphere suits the Hampstead environment - great tasting food, especially the Sunday roasts. Book in advance, will get very busy!
P. T.
Great atmosphere, step away from the busy-ness of Hampstead Main street. Lovely pub lunch with delicious craft beers.
F. C.
A very confidential feeling when you enter this historical building and dive into the pub atmosphere.
Very short and promising seasonal menu.
Everything we had was perfect after quite a long waiting time though.
Great wines and perfect atmosphere in the upper restaurant room, with bug windows opening to the trees.
Perfect for romantic time and friends get together
A. S. (.
Amazing place, from starters to deserts, could not fault it. Just wish they had the wine we wanted and the cheese platter alas was not available.
D. T.
A wonderful pub in a delightful setting! Great staff and great beer. The place offers a gorgeous Sunday lunch. A really cosy place and well worth a visit. The pub is only a short walk from hampstead tube station (up hill) but has a real country feel about it.
J. T.
Lovely meal and great service upstairs in the restaurant part. Beef roast didn't come with horseradish though and would have been nice to have a separate gravy boat to pour more on the Yorkshire pudding. That being said, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere really pleasant.
C. D.
Very good eating now had potato leak soup lamb shoulder 13.95 bargin
Highley recommended was busy upon arrival
V. A.
Cosy old pub- a hidden gem at the top of Hampstead. Nice walk through little streets near-by. No drinks outside though!
J. M.
We had a very nice dining experience. The crispy squid was a delightful starter. I ate the lamb chop and my husband the lamb rump. It was all wonderful. If you are in a hurry, you could have a problem, but if you are looking for a dining experience, this is the right place. We ate in a back room away from the noise of the front. Although in a posh neighborhood, there is no need to dress up, but with that being said, leave your beach attire at home and cover your midriff- it is a very nice restaurant.
J. L.
Such a cosy pub. A real traditional outlet with wooden floors. The staff were very welcoming. Great menu too.
T. L.
The historic Holly Bush pub, built in the 1790s, is worth a visit if you're in the area. It's owned by Fuller's now, so it's lost a little bit of its charm, but nonetheless is pleasant inside, with flowers and beautiful lighting. I went here for a drink, so can't comment on the food (although it looked nice), but it was fairly reasonably priced and the seat outside was a nice option on a sunny day in Hampstead (even if the main bench felt a little rickety and unstable).
M. T.
A very beautiful and cozy pub. Very nice interior and friendly staff. Well worth a visit if you fancy a pint with a good atmosphere.
J. P.
Good pub food, reasonably priced. Gorgeous location and friendly staff.
T. F.
It's a shame a favourite pub if my youth is now more of a restaurant than a pub, but the food is good.
R. G.
On old quaint English boozer. Nice building and surroundings, beer is standard British pub beer. A very local crowd that are not too friendly.
Staff are pleasant though!!!
A. M.
Great traditional pub for locals. Always nice to be there for drinks and food.
R.
Really good Sunday roast. I had lamb roast, lamb was very tender, roast potatoes were nice (although could be crispier), massive Yorkshire pudding, tasty gravy, and nice red cabbage, kale and other veggies. Really big portion. Price was ok. Service was also good and has a nice atmosphere. Would come back here again.
O. C.
We went for lunch in the afternoon. The food, atmosphere and service were second to none. Would recommend.
p.
Nice pub with great food. On Sunday’s reservations are required well in advance.
H. P.
Great meal with friends in one of the dining rooms. The waiting staff at tables are attentive and friendly which is diametrically opposite to the surly barman who pulls the pints behind the bar. Probably caters for the local old timers to whom he was very cordial but not a word to anyone who walked in. Luckily the serving staff more than recompense for this. Food is great , service even better for those dining.
T. L.
A marvelous example of a Fuller's pub, with a higher than standard quality of food, service and environment.
J. A.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here, the pork and beef roasts are very good and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Lovely atmosphere as well. Definitely worth a visit.
S. V.
Lovely place, so cozy !!! Excellent attention, delicious food and good prices. Absolutely recommendable👍
B. H.
Fantastic location and cozy pub, with decent roasts and a good beer selection. Roasts are around the £18 mark.
A. H.
My absolute favourite pub in London. Always exceeds my expectations. Thank you!
T. F.
Wonderful and Delightful Staff. Happy Atmosphere, dog friendly. Good Guinness and lovely fish n Chips
A. B.
Quaint historical pub, it feels great being there, friendly staff too. Maybe they should try a broader selection of belgium beers , but overall just wonderful....
B. D.
Cozy pub in Hampstead, great atmosphere, nice staff, nice food! Lovely place to visit!
J. L.
A bit pricey, but the place is very cosy and the food is excellent. The staff are very friendly. Overall a great experience.
K. T.
Excellent place. Good food and great staff.
F.
Lovely setting, but food and service were not brilliant. Still very pleasant though.
V. K.
Hampstead's hidden gem. Delicious food. Excellent service! Lovely cozy pub
A. B.
A beautiful gastro-pub. Food and service were very good. Highly recommended.
M. G. C.
Cozy and warm atmosphere!
Nice food and good beer selection
C. L.
Was recommended this place by a friend. We had the lamb & gnocchi, which was surprisingly good considering this is a pub and not an authentic Italian restaurant. Hats off to the chef. A memorable evening. Thanks!
M. L.
We went before the lockdown. Saw this place from timeout london 101. The pub is very beautiful and there were quite busy. But each table doesn't seem to have enough distancing. The staff were friendly and hard working during the special time. We had burgers. The price of the food was high compare to the quality. You have other pubs with better price and better food. Maybe we ordered the wrong food or the location is a high price location? Anyway, it is a lovely pub if you want to meet up with friends and have a drink.
U. C.
A lovely well kept and cosy pub in the passages of Hampstead. Friendly and extremely helpful staff and and excellent pint of Frontier.
A. M.
Not cheap, but excellent food and good value. Interior could do with a bit of a spruce up, ceilings with putting paint etc but a lovely trad boozer in an awesome location.
C. H.
Cute little hidden pub in Hampstead. Food was surprisingly nice (better than most pubs I’ve been to!) very good service! Will come back
S. P.
Excellent service. Amazing food and the punding were delicious. You should defenetly try chocolate mousse
A. L.
Cosy place with generous portions of food! Definitely try the Sunday roast!

The definition of cozy. Think we'll make this our new local pub in Hampstead!
T. A.
Cosy traditional pub in pretty neighbourhood. Only had drinks so can't judge on the food. Kind waitress and they are dog-friendly!
T. A.
Very cosy pub, would make a good date spot.
E. C.
Best pub in Hampstead. Lovely building, layout and peaceful location. So nicely set aside from the rest of Hampstead and great atmosphere. Whenever I'm in the area this is where I go for a drink, lovely food too - you won't be disappointed.
a. j.
Still a nice pub after all the years it's been there, great staff, great surroundings, but it's minimum of £7 for a pint.. I guess im getting old, but that seems pretty steep
S. A.
Amazing food lovely little pub.
P. S.
Absolutely delicious Sunday roast two weeks ago. Lovely place. Fantastic service. I felt really safe too (very important in these times). I'll go back again and again (as soon as we are allowed obviously)
A.
Quaint, decent food.. slow and slightly moody service from some of the new managers
S. A.
Visited for drinks on a weeknight. Cute pub with nice decoration. Good selection of beers, cocktails and wines to choose from.
H. D.
A great venue. A bit pricey and parking around the area is a real challenge, but the food is great and the atmosphere warm. Bit confusing as there is a lodge / hotel opposite with the same name, but the venue is directly to the right down the street. Just ask anyone around they will be happy to point you in the right direction. Very busy and popular and for good reason :)
F. V.
One of the best (if not the best) pubs I’ve been in this country. The food was absolutely delicious (I ordered lamb for main and the best scotch egg in the world as a starter). The service was absolutely superb (a real waiter, who was clearly a MASTER in this art and knew his business very well!). The wine served was delicious. I would recommend to anyone who wishes an authentic and wonderful experience in English pub/food. Will certainly return for their Sunday Roast!
N. D.
I've lived a mile from this pub for the last 12 years and only visited recently for a meal with friends.
The food was ok, the online menu is not up to date which I knew before we went.
I would definitely go back here for a drink but I think the food is overpriced compared to other local alternatives and in my opinion not as good however others will obviously have their own opinion.
The staff are very friendly and good choice of beers and lagers.
I. “. U.
Amazing place. Toby is the number ONE.
C. C.
Good but food a bit expensive and nowhere to park easily.
D. M.
Pros: Friendly staff, lovely pub, good options for drinks and deserts.
Cons: I ordered a vegan meal and when it arrived it had the size of a starter. For 14 pounds, I was expecting a much more filling meal - I was starving when I finished it!
My friends seemed happy with their food.
M. G.
Best fish & chips in London and great service!
C. H.
Gorgeous food, lives up to the hype!
D. L.
This was a traditional English pub set in Hampstead, only a couple of minutes walk from the tube station.
The staff are very friendly and attentive. They serve a nice selection of drinks and the lager was tasty. The food here is of very nice quality and cooked beautifully. I had a burger and it was delicious and filling.
After dinner there is a traditional pub area for a drink.
I will be visiting again.
D. W.
Bloody decent Sunday roast! Veg sides not quite up to scratch, parsnips and some carrots a bit too al dente (totally undercooked...) and had to request extra gravy - which was provided, but just shouldn't have to ask! Lovely staff.
C. P.
A lovely house with delicious food. A mellow atmosphere, with kids and dogs.
V. R.
Cute pub in a lovely location, have been many times before and the food is normally good. Visited recently just for drinks and it was slightly less pleasant. Very busy, sticky uncleaned tables, rude customers (but I guess they can't help that)
K. S.
Excellent service and the place is very bright and spacious. We were seated upstairs and enjoyed everything that we ordered. The only negative is that the food menu was very small with limited options. On th positive side, the Sticky toffee pudding was excellent and by far the best I have ever had.
L. P.
I used to be a local to the Holly Bush and it’s absolutely one of my favorite pubs in London. They serve delicious English meals, with fresh produce in a fabulously Georgian English setting. A gem in London’s crown. 💜
N. O.
Looked cosy but the fireplace will be on only from end of November:(
B. L.
Beautiful old-world interior and amazing location (in a charming corner of a charming, tiny road up a charming set of stone stairs from the heart of Hampstead). The drink selection is solid, and the double (or triple?) cooked chips are great, but the other food is only okay. Their upstairs dining room is a stunning antique space that feels like you've been transported back 150 years, and the service was friendly and attentive, but the waiter didn't know how to order a martini (?) and the food was, again, only okay. I still bring people here for drinks because it's great.
J. K.
Nice food, lovely table by the window, friendly service, and a Beagle puppy 🐶
T. C.
Great place to go for a delicious Sunday Roast!
T. L.
Best pub ever! This is a fine dining for real! Amazing kitchen, great selection of beers and wines, cocktails, in the heart of Hampstead. Lovely to go during the winter and great seasonal food during the summer! Highly recommended!
L. H.
This was my local pub for 4 years. It’s small dark and cosy, the food and beer selections are great. Book a table if you want a Sunday lunch as it gets a tad crowded. A proper pub in a beautiful part of London.
A. O.
Really gorgeous pub with a very warm friendly feel. We went for the Sunday roast which were on the more expensive side, I had the pork belly, which was tasty but not the best roast I've every had. They were way too light on the gravy and the potatoes were a bit heavy and deep fried, also light on the vegetables. Their puddings looked amazing as did the rest of the menu. Overall a nice Sunday afternoon at the pub!
N. N.
Quality seasonal food, great friendly service, spacious with a reasonable sized seating area. My new favourite pub - highly recommend visiting. Tucked away and from the outside can be deceivably like any other pub.
R. S.
This is my favourite Hampstead pub. Very rustic with a good selection of beers and spirits.
S. J.
Lovely pub with very friendly staff. Even the security guy was very friendly (as well as professional). The chips here are exceptionally good, I would highly recommend getting them. Also the location is great, in a beautiful nook of London. Would definitely make the effort to visit here again.
D. B.
Awesome service, and first class food. I arrived on crutches and despite it being very busy the staff helped my drinks to my table. When I ordered lunch, wild mushrooms on toast with duck egg and pea shoots I wasn't disappointed. Egg and mushrooms cooked perfectly. I'll be back.
C. C.
Had a fabulous meal here on Saturday night. The place had a lovely buzzy vibe and though they were very busy we had great service from Maria and Ewa- thank you. The food was delicious (a perfectly cooked steak for me) and the desserts definitely worth breaking a diet for. Going back soon for Sunday lunch!
H. M.
Wonderful pub owned by Fullers. We came here for the first time for dinner between Christmas and New Year and had a wonderful time. We were served by a sweet girl who did a great job. Food was delicious. The pub almost feels hidden the first time you go - tucked away behind the top of Hampstead High street. It had a good vibe and a nice mix of clientele.
M. M.
Simply the best old-style pub in Hampstead. Original, authentic and popular with the local crowd. Good selection of beers. Open fireplace during the cooler season. Upstairs dining room for bigger parties. Very nice food menu which has never disappointed us.
L. P.
The Holly Bush is an amazing place nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood which has very beautiful properties. The Roasts were superb. The starters ordered by us were Boar Scotch Eggs & Duck liver Parfa. In the Mains we had Chicken Sharer, Pork Belly & Pumpkin Risotto. Excellent food. Best to call and book else long waiting though the lady at the reception pushed us in very fast - thanks you made our day. If we hadn't dined here, we would have regretted it. Thanks The Holly Bush.....
A. T.
Great food and great atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The Sunday roasts are a bit pricey, and you do have to book ahead, but it's worth it! Good selection of beers on tap, and a decent wine list too.
J. L.
Loved this pub and it's a place I'll return to many more times!
C. H.
I’ve been willing to go to this pub for so long and was quite disappointed by the food, very very much under my expectations and pricey. Gambas were in fact simple tesco prawns with little flavor, my boyfriend’s roast was very average (leg of lamb) for £20. Drinks were good and service too.
To sum up go there for drinks or chips, preferably outside or in the first room rather than the back.
M. Z.
Great place lovely staff and amazing Manager.
L. M.
Sunday roast was good, beef was better than the lamb version, as the lamb was prepared just like the beef, no mint sauce... but you can ask for it. Lovely staff, nice atmosphere. Little bit pricey.
N. C.
Food is at average but service can be better.
A. M.
Brilliant little gem, a tiny bit overpriced but it’s not your average pub food so it’s well justified. Great choice of main, great quality of food. Service deserves a gold star of their own.
M. O.
Nice little pub, hidden down a small street. The food is good, and the bar staff are pretty efficient, considering the bar area is pretty tight. It can get hot in the back room, due to lack of windows and ventilation, so watch out for that!
L. D. W.
Lovely 'village' pub in the heart of hampstead
S. W.
Main plus is the great atmosphere and friendly team, that makes this an very special experience. I had the lamb (picture) - the meat itself was very good, all the sides were not something special.
Altogether we had a great time- even spotted Emma Thompson on her way out!!
M. M.
A very busy pub up a narrow alley in beautiful Hampstead. We sat in a nice dining area away from the bar. Despite the menu saying it wasn't available we managed to have a big roast dinner.
J. R.
Great pub feel. Delicious food. Had brussel sprout soup and a lovely souffle. My guest had the beef and ale pie which was really nice. Back room a bit noisy but calm and quiet around the bar (we went for lunch).
B. S.
A wonderful old pub in a little lane a short walk from Hampstead tube station. Good selection of beers. Friendly staff.
The food is rather expensive but pretty good. Better than normal pub food.
Getting a table is hard and the pub can get very very hot.
G. S.
A delightful village boozer that needs to be on a hundred walking tour and pub crawl itineraries.
It looks and feels like a true English pub and this, coupled with King William IV Bar and Rooms are the bests bars in Hampstead. Notwithstanding Spainiards Inn which matches these two in aged feel.
There is an uphill trek involved in getting here which serves to make the experience a bit of a mystery tour. All foreign staff though and no one behind the bar looks older than 25. Disconcerting...
P. C.
Great service even with the extra covid regulations. Just like going to the pub should feel. Much quieter than usual, which is a blessing as you can find cosy seats all around the place.
J. S.
Lovely building, great character. Staff excellent and the food is delicious! It is a bit pricey though. But it's most certainly worth a visit!
A. B. I.
Beautiful historical pub in Hampstead
A. C.
Great food and atmosphere. From there enjoy a walk in Hampstead village or towards Hampstead Heath.
G. D.
Food was good but service was a little slow and the maitre D had a bit of a chip on her shoulder. Firstly greating my wife with "you do have a reservation don't you" then saying there was no way our buggy could fit in (our 5month baby was asleep in it at the time) then she mumbled "well see for yourself" needless to say they was plenty of room.
S. v. S.
Fairly pricey for pub food but also very upmarket. One of the cheapest items on the menu was the Salmon and it was served on a bed of roasted vegetables, tomatoes, samphire and peas. Would recommend even though it was very busy on a weekday.
C. C.
Beautiful cosy pub in one of London's most iconic areas. It has character, great drinks and service but I must say food can be improved. Burger was too plain, you'd expect something more creative from a gastro pub.
S. D.
I just celebrated my birthday party at the Holly Bush and it was absolutely perfect. Staff were brilliant communicators leading up to the event, and were so attentive on the evening. They were flexible with start times due to guest arrival times, and despite being very busy with holiday parties (my birthday is in December) and normal diners, food was always beautifully presented and proper temperatures. Such a happy memory - thank you again!
T.
Awesome cosy pub with a brill private room, attentive service and great menu. Sunday roast was 8/10 (let down mainly by the brittle Yorkshire 😥) but loved the atmosphere and English pub feel.
E. V.
A very good evening in a private room for a wedding reception. The constraints of a relatively small kitchen were overcome by the guests being required to pre-order their dishes and having name cards including their selections allowing both kitchen and waiting staff to manage the pass and service with relative efficiency to everyone's satisfaction. The food was well sourced, cooked and served by friendly and efficient staff who coped very well with almost all demands . . . though they seemed surprised by the speed with which we all consumed water! There were 2 red and 2 white wines from the Fuller Smith & Turner wine list (better than the average brewery list).
Google, please STOP being so USA-centric! In the British Isles we use British English NOT US English. So British pubs sell various beers (including ales, lagers, stouts etc.), fortified wines (including vermouths, sherries, ports etc.), wines (sometimes), liqueurs and spirits (NOT "hard liquor"). BTW, they have WCs or toilets (NOT "rest rooms).
f.
Quaint little pub tucked away from the main streets of Hampstead. I often go here after work for a couple of drinks. The food and service is very good. It is also a nice place to bring a date or your significant other as well.
Interesting fact: The Holly Bush is a Grade II listed public house.
G. W.
My local. Often very busy with a mix of locals and visiting Londoners and tourists. There's a good selection of beers and, increasingly, very good, hearty food. A very charming period pub that is well worth a visit.
#Sep17: evening meal 4pax. Quality in evidence - well presented, charming & well judged service. Very happy. Nibbles+ 2x courses, 3x bottles decent wine = £60 p/h incl.
#Oct 17: another good quality meal. 4pax 2 courses, 2 btles wine =£45 p/h. Pleasant service.
E. D.
Very friendly and good staff. Food was excellent. Very dog friendly which was really appreciated!
J. C.
The interior and atmosphere of this pub is great. We ordered the lamb chops. I would say that the lamb was average, the chips and the onion rings were nice though.
N. P.
Nice little pub. Could to with some refurbishing
M. C.
A+ for ambience and cozy factor. Unfortunately, the food falls down quite a bit after the initial pint or hot toddy wears off. Nevertheless, a visit to Hampstead is not complete without a tipple here on an autumn or winter's afternoon. The crowd is pleasantly mixed, and the pub is always welcoming. One of London's oldest pubs, definitely worth a visit.
a. h.
Really nice pub tucked away in Hamstead. Didnt have food but the menu was good. Roasted almonds were delicious
F. H.
Good secret spot and venue. Nice service. Food OK but definitely aggressively priced... I’d like to think they do a decent Sunday roast.
M. M.
Best gastro pub of Hampstead. A MUST
Used to be a French chef, doing really good food.
Honestly by far the best gastro pub around
Moreover, quite a unique place in one of the beautiful and hidden part of London
The place in itself is worth it, amazingly old and beautiful pub in such a lovely place
So if you add the amazing food, it's even worth coming from Paris!
Go there for: everything
J. H.
Probably my favourite pub in Hampstead - I really enjoy the fact that I can never quite remember how to get to it, and so we have the pleasure of rediscovering it every time. Attractive both outside and inside, and the good was pretty good too - a good place for Sunday lunch, albeit an extremely popular one!
K. S.
Very nice pub... try the mussels!
P. S.
Traditional London pub steeped in history. Decent Ales..
J. D.
A beautiful pub that is perfect to come to after a good walk on the Heath. A dog friendly pub with an open fireplace it is extremely cosy, plus the make a mean Sunday roast. If going, make sure to book as it's always busy
I. R.
Best pub in London, I always come back ! Food is delicious with fresh vegetables and quality meat. The place itself has all what you could expect from a pub cosy warm with a fireplace. Just perfect !
H. H.
We went last year and the food wasn’t great but tried it again recently and it was brilliant! Recommend the fish & chips. Delicious, will definitely come back again!
C. W.
Nice pub and couldn’t wait to have Sunday after been highly recommended on a London pub walk of Hampstead. I have to say very disappointing. The beef was red when it came out and very chewy. Sorry not for me for £19.
J. D.
Really good food, enormous portions though :) perfect for Sunday roast. Sadly no garden :(
A. C.
I usually find fullers pub food really nice but I found the food quite unadventurous. I'm a vegetarian and there was only 1 main I could have on the menu which was a shame. My boyfriend ordered the pork dish which was disappointingly small given the high price. The location is nice and it seems popular for drinking with the usual fullers range of beers etc.
S. R.
A great traditional English pub. The atmosphere is really something you don't see very often these days, it just makes you want to spend the whole day in there and the food being so delicious doesn't help either. You should totally visit this place if you haven't done it yet.
C. M. L.
Just had a lovely meal here! The food was absolutely delicious, really good portions and cooked beautifully. The service was superb; friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!
S. K.
Very old historical place. Cozy bar area.
S. M.
Homely pub in the heart of Hampstead. Popped in for some drinks and to watch the football which we heard as we were walking around. Nice Cornish cider choice and the food looked good although we had already eaten unfortunately!

Lovely pub in a lovely place at Hampstead.
Perfect service, very good food and nice people around you.
Fireplace for a romantic touch
A must go

This discreet pub is tucked up on a hill in Hampstead. Please make the effort to pop in for pint, but leave your tourist facade at home! You can literally feel the ghosts of London there.
Believe it or not, they have great, authentic pub fare that is really really good!
J. H.
Very atmospheric pub with a gastropub food menu. Plus Fuller's beer.
R. G.
Love this place after a walk on the Heath
R. B. -. E. k.
Top class pub.
Beer fantastic, did not try the food but saw quite a few people eating.
Nicest place to be outside sipping a pint.
Top notch
C. M.
Popular pub tucked away at the top of Holly Mount in Hampstead. Cosy and informal seating downstairs, or a spacious dining room upstairs. We arrived at midday and it was fully booked for lunch. However, we were kindly offered a table who's next reservation wasn't for another hour. Very good food, excellent service.
L. D.
After a 15k ramble around Hampstead and Golders Hill in the rain, it was amazing to find a cosy nook and then get served absolutely divine pub food. The spinach and mushroom lasagne is superb. Efficient and no-nonsense service! Lovely pub - looking forward to the scrummy Christmas menu!
C. E. K.
Super cute bar in Hampstead!

My wife and I live locally and have been enjoying the Holly Bush for the past 5 years, but it seems the magic has disappeared. After not having had a chance to visit in the last 9 months we were excited to return to our favourite local pub but left very disappointed. The wild boar scotch egg sounded tasty but was relatively bland. The truffle mac and cheese was ok, but difficult to identify any sense of truffle. The beef & ale suet was extremely salty and was accompanied by an overbearing gravy. Finally, what we formerly thought of as the gold standard of sticky toffee pudding has become an insipid rectangle with the texture of a wet sponge, genuinely seemed like a microwave-from-frozen dessert.
Not sure what has changed in the past year that has driven the food downhill but things have certainly taken a turn for the worse. Will revisit at some point in the hopes that they're back on course but I'm afraid I've seen the last of quality Holly Bush food.
C. S.
Staff friendly & helpful, lovely atmosphere, food was excellent.
L. F.
Just was very sorry that they were unsure if they had certain items. Their Fish Pie was fantastic. Hey, don't make us Baby boomer women feel invisible, as MOST of us have money to spend!
A. H.
My review is based on a bit of historical recollection and daydreaming of my past years in London, but the Holly Bush was one of my favourite gastro-pubs and local haunts during my time in the city. Cozy, comfortable and a great meal every time, it was a wonderful escape from the day to day with that delightful British charm. If you’re taking a few days of travel through London, take a step out of the map and walking tour routine and head up north to Hampstead, you won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful little pub, set in a lovely part of hampstead. Quite small, definitely book for dinner, but summer time drinks would be perfect here, as it spills onto the quiet street
S. J.
Nice, cozy pub with great food.
m. s.
One of my fav pub. You can still feel the old times and the atmosphere is always warming and local. Food is a bit overpriced. But especially in winter time it is always worth a visit
M. T.
Had the price-fix Boxing Day lunch. Everything was awesome. Food, drinks, ambiance. They assisted us in getting our massive BOB stroller upstairs and made it convenient for us to eat and carry out our toddler's lunch. If in Hampstead, this is a must do.
m. l.
Wonderful gem of a gastro pub in beautiful Hampstead. A bit of a climb but well worth it: staff delightful, food delish
Great for lunch after longwalks on the heath.
g. b.
Had the slow roasted shoulder of lamb. Very moist and fell off the bone nicely. Would definitely order that again however the roast potatoes were over cooked disappointed. Lucky I ordered extra gravy! The little side dishes were mouth watering...
D. I. S.
Outstanding love the vibe great service one of the best places in Hampstead !
M. S.
I cannot rate the food nor the service, really. I arrived here quite early around 8pm and it was crowded. There was no way I could sit down and have dinner in there, which was kind of a bummer, since i'd heard all good things about this place. What I will say tho us that the staff made time to sort me out and talk to me properly, which I know has to be appreciated. So, if you can: MAKE A RESERVATION
R. L. W.
A lovely pub in a perfect location. Tastefully renovated recently and mostly new staff who are lovely. I had previously posted a tepid review but I've since changed it as new management has made a very positive change in this old lovely pub.
N. D.
A legend, this is an authentic well run pub that serves great food and beer. Lots of small room and history associated with each one. Need to book if you want a table
S. A.
Great place! This is one of the best pub in town!
G. S.
Brilliant pub, and not pricey considering the location. It sits in a residential area so no outside drinking after 8 which is a shame on a warm summer's evening, but also totally understandable.
S. A.
Great place for a Sunday outing with friends. There were no available tables for the time I had placed my booking (through an online platform), but the manager contacted me via email and found me a table. Definitely a must!
F.
I celebrate my birthday there every year. We book a private dining room and get superb private table service with great food great beer and its location is beautiful!
S. S.
I came to this place a few years ago while my brother was living in London, and wow, did I enjoy it! The food was absolutely amazing and the ambiance was perfect, as well. I've since vowed to eat here every time I am in town!!! A+!!!
A. I.
"One of my favourite pubs in London. Very Cozy and warm inside. This pub is on the cutest little street with beautiful row townhomes and streetlights that are oil lit. You feel like you are back in time. A must if you are a tourist. Great location for photos.
H. G.
Ambience is very good in this almost 400 year old pub. Food is all from local suppliers and very fresh. A stop in this pub is a must when coming to Hampstead, any time of the year. The crowd is pleasantly mixed, and the pub is always welcoming.
L. C.
Lovely quirky pub. Good was delicious. Will be back.
B. G.
Cosy little pub tucked into the hilly streets of Hampstead. Lovely environment. The staff on the other hand, very unfriendly. Any question or statement we made toward the staff was met with either a blank look or a quick yes or no. A smile goes a long way, guys!
W. W.
I visited with around 10 friends for a birthday celebration and we booked a small room, at no cost, in advance. The Holly Bush has a great atmosphere, excellent beer and every employee was friendly, polite and consistently went above and beyond expectations to make sure my friends and I had a good evening.
D. P.
Great pub hidden on the back Street's of Hampstead. Had a Lovely Sunday roast lunch with great service.
P. A.
Fantastic, great staff, Sunday lunch sublime. Really personal service. Enjoyed from start to finish. Book a table as it is really busy.
m. m.
Wonderful cosy pub for a drink. The food sadly lets it down. We had the mussels in cider broth, the octopus and crab. Quite a few of the mussels were dead and the broth was fizzy watery. The chips were stale, cold and chewy. The chorizo was just cut in halve instead of using the flavour to infuse the the sadly cooked (instead of fried) octopus. It really didn't make it a balanced dish. The crab was decent but the avocado topping was more mayo than avocado.
Overall a great place for getting together for a drink but not a foodie hotspot and prices are quite steep for what you get.
S. G.
Pascal is am excellent chef with outstanding seafood skills. Four out of nine dishes on the menu were from the ocean. Highly recommend, quaint, local and friendly yet quiettraditional pub.
B. L.
A renowned eatery, and I hope to make a reservation for next visit to Hampstead in London. You can walk from the tube station up through a path to the hill where The Holly Bush is located. Take the London Walks tour to get a good idea of the area.
G. S.
Delicious food. Good Beer. Great service. Cool setting. Try the Bangers and Mash. Sure, Bangers and Mash may seem a bit generic or "touristy" but at the Holly Bush they truly are terrific.
B. L.
Decor and atmosphere are lovely - the food is hella expensive. It's nice enough, but not quite worth the money. It's not surprising given the area, but nevertheless that's why they've dropped a few stars here.
M. (.
Simply a GREAT pub for dinner and a pint!
Both delicious frankly. I look forward to trying it in the winter when it's cold outside and the fire is lit inside.
a. h.
The Holly Bush in Hampstead is a lovely cosy pub full of character and the meal my companion and i had was excellent - Cote de Boeuf very tender and cooked to a lovely pink served with a portabello mushroom and caramelised onion. The side dish of chips was also good.
B. S.
The beer is very good and the staff ensure it is. I have not eaten here so cannot comment on the food. It's a good old fashioned pub.
C. H.
It’s the Holly Bush. Quintessentially Hampstead. Friendly, good Hophead Dark Star.
S. W.
Simply one of the Great London pubs. Located in a delightfully cosy corner of Hampstead, it feels like walking into an Inn from Hobbiton, with nooks and crannies filled with people quaffing ales and eating the delicious food. Always busy, it's worth spending time having a drink or as a destination for a fine evening meal. I take nearly every visitor to the city there if I can.
J. W.
Half the fun with this pub is finding it: go up Holly Mount Steps rather than Holly Hill for a surprise view of the city. Dog-friendly. Booking for food on Sunday is a must.
I. T.
Always a treat to come here. The old wood, creaky floors, and multiple dining rooms add a lovely feel to the ambience of the place. Wide variety of beers, ales, and ciders (tap and bottle).
P. P.
I went there on a Sunday. I had to book.
Good roast in a nice and classic pub setting.
The deserts were very nice. Cool service too.
L. M.
Good food, clean beer, friendly and efficient service. Had a very enjoyable evening here and I highly recommend The Holly Bush!
O. L.
Picturesque, cosy, old fashioned pub, with open fires, perfect for warming up on a cost winters day. Gets very busy and can be difficult to find a seat/table.
M. B.
Atmospheric pub, well worth a visit, particularly if you're from out of town and really want to escape the feeling of being in London! Can be very tricky to find a table at the weekend, so be prepared to stand
P. B.
In my top 3 pubs. Been going, sporadically, for 28 years. Great location, interesting period property, good beer. Winner.
B. K.
Can’t beat this little gem of a pub whether going for a pint or a pie but do try and sit downstairs. Upstairs is stunning but can lack atmosphere if not in a big group.
N. A.
It was quite busy so be sure to reserve a spot. But it was so so tasty! Great food and beer. The area is really nice to walk around as well.
M. K.
Really nice London pub tucked away in a cute back lane in Hampstead Heath. Food was delicious and staff were very friendly. Highly recommended!
E.
Nice atmosphere, old English country pub style. Quiz on Thursday evening is entertaining. Lost a point due to its food being decent but quite clearly overpriced
R. N.
The food isn't bad but probably not good enough for the price. Some veg on the sunday roast grossly undercooked. Service wasn't great.
b. b.
One of the best pubs I’ve ever been to, love it specially at winters , excellent food and very good selection of drinks.
B. B.
Always lovely! Friendly staff, great selection of beer and wines. Gorgeous outside seating, lovely indoor seating for food. Lil pricey but worth it for quality and atmosphere.
T. M.
Very nice pub with a very charming decor. Food is delicious. Could do with a better cider selection though.
M. A.
Excellent spot for a pint after a yomp on the heath. It's a Fullers place so no surprises on the menu, but the staff are chill and dog-friendly.
S. S.
Amazing little pub with charm, character and lovely staff. The chap on the door was so friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend!!!!
P. S.
Delicious beef suet pie. Friendly staff. Really busy, definitely worth booking in advance if you want to eat
M. A.
A beautiful olde pub in the heart of Hampstead with lovely beers wines and food , a great place to while away a summers eve , but even more magical in the cold wet winters evenings . Always delivers
m. r.
Had a drink during the week nice pub with pleasant surroundings, service was quick and polite, situated in pleasant part of hamptead
L. S.
Want to escape the hustle and bustle of London... even if only for an afternoon?
Check out this quaint old put in Hampstead. It will instantly leave you feeling as though you have been transported away to the countryside.
They do decent food, but you will need to make a reservation if you want to go for sunday roast as it gets very busy
J. S.
Lovely staff, environment, and great food.
P. G.
I loved the food (lots of tasty veggies and great roast) and the place looks really gorgeous and vintage. The service was a bit slow at times but very helpful still.
A.
Lovely pub, lots of atmosphere. Ensure you book. Great food but expensive
F. M. C.
Great pub in Hampstead! Food is always good and Sunday roasts are especially recommended.
A. S.
Love this pub, always worth a visit.
J. M.
Amazing atmosphere on this great Pub. The selection of beers is great and the food is good. They have a really cozy seating area downstairs.
J. B.
Service was poor as there weren't enough bar staff and the floor staff were quite short with any customers who asked questions.
The food was excellent however and I would consider returning through the week.
C. M.
Warm atmosphere, friendly staff. Same menu in bar and restaurant. Beef pudding was great.
K. G.
Beautiful pub. Feels like your in the heart of the countryside. Cosy, wonderful food, service and lots of doggos :)
T. B.
One of my all-time favourites in London. Worth travelling for. Food is great and fuller's beers are well kept. Love it!
P. K.
Old Hampstead pub, lots of nooks and crannies.
A. C.
Nice beer
Pig of a place to get to and park
Lots of cubby holes to hide in and meet small groups
M. Z.
Lovely old pub. Nice warm fireplace. My favourite pub. I always walk there through Hamsted heath. Recommended.
E. B.
This pub takes me back to the 70ies when I travelled in the UK with my parents. Authentic pub in a great setting. Get out of the City and Relax in 'The Holly Bush'. Greetings from Belgium.
K. B.
i like the holly bush hotel pub because it's sweet and nice. but i only like it if it's sweet and nice. Don't tell me what to do kelsey. that is so not nice i'll get you. i have never been to bush hotel pub before. i love you kelsey mum and dad and ashley.from kirsty mum dad and ashley definitely kirsty
v. l.
Lovely old pub, good choice of drinks, excellent food, helpful and friendly staff.
J. E.
Amazing service and atmosphere. Also very Covid safe as everyone has their own room. I would highly recommend!
T. B. M.
I like this place. Except that there's very little actual pub space for drinking. Food prices for what you get (portion wise) are astronomical though and very poor value for money at the higher end of the menu.
S. R.
Great traditional English pub worth popping into after a walk around hamstead heath! Busy but still friendly, cosy & welcoming.
p. z.
Good pub, but not special...
T. P.
Lovely pub with delicious food! We had steak and ale pie and a crab roll and both were delicious.
A. S.
One of the more charming pubs in London. Tucked away in a cul du sac above the high street, the food, drink and atmosphere is unique and top notch
E.
Nice old pub (18th Century) 3mins from Hampstead tube. Good range of beers.
M. D.
Perfect little gem hiding above Hampstead village. Always cozy in the winter, and space outside when the sun is out. Feels miles away from the high street, but just around the corner.
F. S.
Just walking around in Hampstead with my pals and found a muse. Walked on and discovered this amazing pub. Great location, good beers and food.
A. P.
One of my favourite food spots
I can’t wait for this place to open up again
👏👏👏👏👏
D. R.
Food was average, I got the lamb and thought it was tough so ended up disappointed. The chips were delicious though and the atmosphere was lovely.
S. E.
It's a very cute pub located in a very lovely street. Both inside and out it is charming and makes you feel very cozy.
J. M.
Good food, nice pub
S. L. (. N. M.
Excellent service by the staff, good quality food. Kids menu are good size. Recommend to make reservations.
K. R.
Good atmosphere and very intimate pub. Service very good. Always a good night out.
C. P.
Lovely old inn at the top of Hampstead. I attended an engagement party catered for by the Holly Bush and the canapes were superb!
S. M.
Only stayed for one drink because nothing on the menu we wanted to eat. It's a very popular venue, and the staff seem friendly.
A. G.
Have been coming here for years. Good food although is quite expensive. Sunday lunch is great but you need to book ahead
M. T.
Delicious veggie Sunday roast, good selection of wines. We often make our way to Hampstead specifically for this roast as it is really hard to get a good veggie one and this one is delicious.
M. G.
Beautiful place. Food too overpriced. Should hire more staff at the bar. Poor selection of draft beers.
c. W.
(Chris day) i have a strong affection for this place, staff seated me in my fave seat by the fire place.
I love this place worlds are not sufficient
G. B.
Nice pub in Hampstead. A bit on the small side with a lot of the place given up to restaurant areas. Could do with being more of a pub
H. J.
Always enjoyable nice ending to pleasant visit to Hampstead on a gorgeous day
T. S. L.
With four hundred years under its belt The Hollybush stands firmly at the top of Hampstead Highstreet along a quiet cul-de-sac. Once inside, it’s easy to see why the locals love it so much. Wooden panels, different rooms and the general hum of conversation compliment the great selection of ales and the seasonally changing menu. It’s great news that the place has a charming Victorian function room (seating up to 30 people) which, rather than charging a hiring fee, requires a minimum spend...
To read more about The Holly Bush why not visit the Twenty Something London website - it's filled with reviews from independent businesses and events all over London that no one should miss out on!
V. M.
The restaurant is beautifully located in Hampstead. It's nice inside as well, but the food wasn't more than OK on this occasion.
S. A.
Good place. It serves Sunday roast but you must book a table in advance. Family- and pet- friendly.
d. V. z.
Best pub in Hampstead. 4 stars and not 5 for being owned by a brewery now. Used to be private landlord.
F. B.
Such a quirky place, apparently one of the oldest around, the atmosphere is great and the staffa buch of lovely people!
M. F.
Alright but used to be so much better when they served traditional grub, like fish and chips, sausage and mash, they became too foody.
M. H.
Great cosy pub with great food and local beers but it can get crowed. Walk to the end of the street for a nice view of the city.
O. S.
One of my favourite London pubs. Cozy atmosphere, good beers on tap
D. R.
Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Beer was good and the lamb was prepared properly. Very positive bexperience at The Holly Bush
E. M.
Lovely cosy pub with open fire, mulled cider. Dogs very welcome, often a few in there. Gets busy.
G. C.
Nice pub but usually very busy and sadly not enough space inside!
I. (.
Manager did best to find us a table on a very rainy Sunday when we walked in. Very well run in contrast to so many London pubs.
J. F. M.
Very nice pub, very crowded. Interesting beers but don't order fries!
J. B.
Nice pub with good menu and many rooms off of the main bar. Main bar can be a bit crowded though.
G. B.
One of north London's best pubs, great beers and food, lovely atmosphere and knowledgeable staff.
S. K.
Nice pub. Very busy on Sundays. Receptionist taking bookings for lunch seem to be struggling with it
E. D.
I like this pub, because you can order fine wine, delicious meat and salads. The old wooden tables create cosy atmosphere.
S. C.
What a great place, great staff and great food
l. j.
Amazing traditional british menu, great service and a lovely pub tucked away in upper Hampstead above the underground.
N. M.
so relaxing lovely experience
P. D.
Lovely pub. Haven't been here for ages and am impressed that Fullers have made it even better since taking over
M. B.
A gorgeous retreat from the hustle and bustle of London life. Sip a tasty ale and munch a scrumptious pie. Tumnus would indeed be at home
B. S.
Nice little pub with lots of beers on tap. Even though those could be a little more chilled, definitely worth a visit.
C. S.
Young House recently remodeled premium lagers and beers seating for 50 downstairs bar and rest further seating upstairs above average food friendly staff functions and buisness
V. V.
Go there regularly with my friends. Excellent place to have a drink and unwind. But super busy on evenings in general... so you might have to wait to get a seat.
M.
Half of the English movie that I’ve seen are recorded in that pub because it’s so picturesque and on top of that the food is good too 😀
J. B.

Historic, quirky pub in historic, quirky Hampstead. Such a pity about the unfriendly, unwelcoming snooty, snobby staff.
M. B.
Great bar with a lovely atmosphere. Decent beer and cheese board.
M. G.
Last saturday I enjoyed to have lunch in this nice place. I recommend it. The menu is interesting and the customers have different kind of dishes to choose.
S. D.
wonderful pub in great surroundings. Prices are a bit steep though. £2.70 for a packet of crisps? turn it in.
J. L.
Best English food I've eaten yet. Cosy and friendly. A bit expensive (25£/head) but well worth it!
F. F.
Nice old school pub with friendly staff. Mice to go for an afternoon drink

Surprisingly good food for a pub!
R. B.
As you would expect from Fullers - a proper London pub, off the beaten track, but three minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Hampstead High Street
F. G.
Very nice typical pub in Hampstead. It's lovely to outside when it's warm and sunny.
R. M.
Super Hampstead pub - good for a pint, even better for Sunday lunch. Great value

K. S.
Been living in Hampstead for 6 years, however, the quality of the food has gone down. Especially Sunday roast . . . Bit sad .
R. W.
Cosy, old pub. Met here for a date. Food and drinks were good. Actually not silly expensive for a Hampstead pub.
N. M.
Great little pub on a quite street - away from the hustle & bustle. Good food too...

Lovely pub, nice beer options. The food smelled and looked amazing.
C. L.
Main area crowded and stuffy, but they let us drink in the dining area. Dog-friendly.
K. L.
Extremely beautiful, classic english pub. Excellent food, nice staff.
H. N.
A tasty Sunday roast, but let down by the service, which was slow (we had to flag down someone when we needed drinks etc), and the fact that the prices charged on the bill didn't match the menu price.
S. L.
Great cavernous pub offering beers, snacks and traditional pub food. I find it too busy to order food and come here for drinks sometimes.
I. C.
Very charming old pub with really nice pub food! Really enjoyed my dinner
R. S.
Fantastic cavernous pub, gets madly busy and hard to get a table (but only because it's so nice).
M. S.
Cosy nice little pub with homey look, with fireplace, delicious food and various kind of ciders and ales...
