Reviews of The Larkshall Pub, Chingford
D. H.
Stunning high end pub that has been recently refurbished to a nice standard. Quite cozy interior with all the charm of the original farm house,.including exposed beams in the ceiling and throughout, and a brick fireplace.
The menu revolves around dry aged beef options, with a display case visible in the dining room and a daily price chart for the custom cuts, which tend to be large enough for sharing. They have other options available like fish and chips, burgers, and a few Veg or Vegan offerings - but for the most part I would consider them a specialist steak house pub.
They have recently built up the outdoor space as well, and it looks to be a lovely spot for Spring and summer dining.
Food was well prepared and offered value for money, with nice side dishes like wedge salad or a plate of broccoli quite surprisingly reasonably priced. That said, they are offering some top end beef options that can boost the bill quite quickly.
Staff were all nice,.and the kitchen pass can be seen fr one side of the dining room, and you can tell they focus on a clean and professional kitchen.
Dog friendly and offer a kids menu, and happy to bring some crayons for colouring. Staff quite welcoming to our dog, including several treats being brought over and lots of attention.

Went here Sunday evening and being the second weekend since opening, it wasn’t very busy. It deserves to be. The roast dinners we had were very good - quantity was just right, nice gravy and some green veg too. The staff were friendly and welcoming to us and our young daughter too. Decor and atmosphere were perfect and was pleased my pint of Landlord was served jn a glass tankard. Lovely Sunday night

Met with friends for Sunday lunch after hearing good reports and really enjoyed it. Lovely cosy atmosphere, dog friendly and the staff were very helpful and attentive even though it was incredibly busy. The roast was very good, tasty and a good portion size. Prices in line with most pubs that do decent food. Will definitely be back.

Past few visits of this beautiful new pub have been excellent. Has a feel of being an independent pub but is part of a small chain.
Unfortunately this time our food was substandard. There has been a bitter smell of burnt food and hazy smoke in the air and our burger and sausage were very over-cooked. They had no mulled wine despite advertising it on chalkboards and served us broccoli stalks.
Not impressed tonight.

A great newly renovated family pub. A small menu with quality ingredients. Not for people who want vast amounts of mediocre food for £9.99. Friendly, young staff who are happy to help with you choice. We had a mixture of their dishes and all were delicious. Treacle tart and Churros for dessert, yum! Well done to all the staff!
Sunday roast was delicious but way too busy, poor staff couldn't cope.

Lovely young girl was serving us worked incredibly hard always smiling even though I made her run around for many things like: kids cutlery, mayonnaise, and drinks but didn’t bother her one bit, she always had a smile on her face. Then she even went to the lovely effort to help my oldest son who’s 3 years old he wanted a paw patrol ice cream (which they didn’t do because most places don’t) but she didn’t want to upset him! so she put together a paw shaped ice cream with chocolate chips as the paw honestly my son couldn’t have been happier really impressed with the service the food and the staff but well done to that lovely young girl.

Great Sunday roast, I had the beef and my wife had the veggie option both were brilliant. Very good beer selection and the pub itself is lovely with a fantastic outdoor area. Looking forward to returning to try their regular menu. Hopefully it has good veggie options for my partner as the steaks look well worth trying out for myself!

Wonderful Sunday lunch - so pleased to have a decent pub in the local area! Food was great, service brilliant and so accommodating - we were a party of 14 including 5 toddlers so it was chaos but they made us feel so welcome. Can't wait to return!
C. P.
Lovely atmosphere, nice food, attentive staff. The recent renovations have really improved the place. 👍🏻 would come back!
B. W.
Absolutely fantastic transformation to a gorgeous gastropub, with a proper kitchen, talented chefs, great beer and a good wine list. Friendly staff and lovely clientele. Dog and family friendly. Just what Chingford needed!

Great food, lovely atmosphere and fab staff. Lady behind the bar was really nice. Good kids menu. Will definitely be coming back. Best pub in the area I'd say.
R. W.
Good beer Good people behind the ramp. They put up with the 20 odd non grown up grown ups, revisiting our old favourite local. Food look very nice if a tad costly. Fantastic night had by all.
M. W.
Had the most wonderful meal there this lunchtime. Such a smart place. The decor, food, staff, service and atmosphere were all brilliant. As a first experience we can’t fault it. Can’t wait to return. What a fabulous addition to our local area.

Six of us booked for Christmas lunch and it was great, we all thoroughly enjoyed our food, the atmosphere was warm & inviting and the service was first class, we booked again last Sunday for lunch, again six of us, we had a lovely table and once again the food, atmosphere (relaxed & friendly) was perfect, the waiter was so upbeat and engaging, really made us feel that nothing was too much trouble, attentive but also gave us space, a very likeable guy, I would say a great asset to the running of the business. We will certainly be back.

Great tomahawk alongside starters. 1 of the best pubs I've been in.
P. B.
They have done an amazing job in the garden. I haven't had a chance to sit inside yet or sample the food but the staff are friendly and the beer good.
D. W.
Great ambiance, good food, staff very friendly and helpful, chef even done picky plates of food when kitchen was shut and preparing for dinner menu, above and beyond in hospitality. Well done The Larkhall, looks like it is going to be a much appreciated local. Can't wait to try more on the menu, especially your aged steaks. 😋

The pub has now reopened under new ownership. They’ve invested a fortune in the place and refurbished the whole building and grounds. Still on soft launch but restaurant opening soon. First impression very good.
K.
Delightful pub. Went there for dinner on Saturday night. Nice pub food, lovely wine, attentive service and comfy upmarket country pub feel. Will definitely come back!
M. G.
First time back since the re-modelling. The outdoor area is impressive. Inside is roomy and well laid out. Enjoyed a good roast dinner!
B. (.
Gastro restaurant and pub. Newly refurbished inside and out. Chief kindly made a salad bowl which was not on the menu. No play equipment for kids. My companions said their fish and vhips burger and chips were okay.
N. A.
Much improved under new ownership. Food looks good but I haven't eaten there yet. Lovely outdoor drinking and eating space.
R. P.
visited at the weekend for a saturday lunch. some understandable teething problems as it was their first day of full service BUT we overall really enjoyed our meal, the food was absolutely fantastic - pigs in blankets, ox cheek, scampi - real scampi !! really great we will definitely be back and we wish them all the best - great to have a decent pub for food and drinks in chingford
L. J.
The food was excellent and staff were very attentive. My family and I will definitely go back there and I have no hesitation in recommending this place
T. w.
Ok I guess, burger was fine, chips were a bit cold and greasy but the chef looked too scary, so when the server asked if it was OK, I said it was..the issue I had was the chef barking out for the food to be collected, get a 🔔 please!
I. C.
Amazing transformation of this pub. Used to be awful and is now worth visiting again. The outside space is really good.
E. M.
Popped in for lunch after the recent re-opening, I had the best burger I have had in some time!
The staff are friendly and the outside area looks fantastic, I look forward to visiting again!
C. S.
Glad to see it's open with a fresh new start. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and dog friendly. Nice to have a proper pub in Chingford.
C. L.
Shared a chateaubriand with the wife and a lovely glass of the Pinot Noir. The baby had half a roast chicken. All were very satisfied.

Went in with my Grandad and Aunt for a drink and dinner after their favourite pubs food quality fell massively. The staff greeting was lovely and friendly and everyone was cheerful. Clearly it was a pub with a Lot of regulars as there was a Lot of back and forth between the staff and clients. We grabbed a table and I was impressed with the options availible (was sad to see the baked camembert was off thou). Was a great selection of beers and when the food was served it had clearly just been finished cooking and hadn't been left under a hot light for ages. Was all excellent and decent sized portion. To top it off the entire pub is dog friendly and we were provided with a bowl of water for the pooch. A massive thanks to the team. We will be back
k. f.
Popped in with the Tuesday walkers made very welcome.
Tea and coffee was lovely
They definitely talking about going back to the pub.
Not suitable for people in wheelchairs no ramps lots of steps small toilets.
The building cannot be touched to make changes for anybody.
G. M.
Nice food at reasonable prices. Good beer. A traditional pub with outdoor seating. Ample parking. Close to bus routes and a 15 minute walk to Highams Park Overground station. Sadly, some furniture is showing signs of wear.
D. M.
Can't comment on the food as I've not eaten here for about ten years. However the pub is nicely decorated and they have a great selection of real ales and lagers. They show sport on the telly and have music for the late nights.
I stop at giving it a 5 star as I don't get drawn back there very often. When I do go in, it's generally a good night. Well, they serve beer don't they...
J. T. S.
I frequented the venue during a weekday lunchtime to sample the food. Nice, warm decor and peaceful atmosphere. I waited for a decent length of time for my food to arrive (always suspicious when my food arrives early in a restaurant or pub). Along with the quality grub, the service was courteous, attentive and with a constant smile.
K. F.
Nice small pub. Has had a makeover a couple of years ago to give it quite a cozy feel.
Menu is reasonable and food good.
Pleasant place for a bite & a beer
P. R.
* the main door is to the left as you approach the building* (There is a narrow door at the front of the building but not sure if wheelchair accessible- I will update). The interior has been renovated and has a nice decking out side with a large heated parasol. Food looked good (burgers) but could’ve done with a few more chips and maybe a a tad more salad (but I’m a freak). Drinks were as you’d expect, we just had pints of beer. Friendly and welcoming staff. The tv screens in the main bar showing 2 (two) different games which you certainly don’t get at other local pubs.
The building has a bizarre internal layout with bags of charm. Split into two sides. One smaller with the main bar, seats and TVs. Down a couple of steps to a larger room with a cosy lower floor and 2nd balcony style floor with with plenty of seats (the upper level is kept closed during quiet times). More TVs and the (men’s) toilets at the extreme right of the building.
M. S.
The food was good and reasonably priced there is a large garden outside with plenty of tables and chairs for Al fresco eating should you wish only one complaint inside is cramped with black walls not very inviting I think this could do with refurbishing in brighter and more welcoming colours
N. F.
A great pub, housed in the oldest farmhouse in the area, parts of which are about 500 years old. It has only been a pub since 1982, the interior is a warren of small and cozy rooms at many different levels, so finding a private nook is simplicity itself. This does mean those who are in wheelchairs might find it difficult to get to the bar.
Now a Greene King pub, the cask ales are excellent, the food is good and the price of either won't break the bank. The gardens are extensive, with both a sunny patio and a shady glade to choose between. The staff are friendly and helpful, letting members of the social bike ride I was on fill up their water bottles on a scorching summer's day
S. O.
Great food and atmosphere
B. F.
A very nice burger and was happy with the quality of the food. Served quickly enough . It's a fairly standard pub but with a menu . Parking is on site and has a beer garden
L.
Fairly nice pub polite friendly staff, food is pretty good and reasonably priced. Try not to sit too close to gents toilets though as that area really stinks.
H. M.
Like the place but oh definately not the food. This is the second time I have tried over a couple of months as I wanted to give it another go. Hubby took some persuading, don't think I will be back for food, shame.
L. G.
Very homely pub. Love this place. Especially in the summer plenty of outdoor seating set off the main road. Almost feels like you are in the countryside.
B. C.
Went to larkshall as it was a 70s/80s nite. The music was great but hardly anyone in there. Shame it would have been good with more people. Get down there before another pub closes !!
J. H.
The menu is pretty typical pub food, bit all made with flair (pies, sweet potato chips, veggies). Good selection of draughts. Friendly, efficient service. Most enjoyable...
H. A.
A homely pub, even though we only go once or twice a year, the regulars always remember us. Good service, cheap beer & friendly atmosphere.
N. M.
Look out for the morris dancers in the summer months at The Larkshall. Live music and a chance to join in too!
S. K.
Slightly out of the way but a pleasant pub for a sunny day. Interesting architecture. A couple of meantimes on tap. Nice beer garden surrounded by wood
