Reviews of The Lyttelton Arms
E. M.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The venue itself is classic for a London pub though the furnishings are starting to show their age (the booth I was in was rocking from a broken leg or the like). If I had gone here for drinks it would be 5 stars. However, I had the food and this dragged the review score down. The burger was overcooked and it seemed like the patty had been cooked from frozen. The sticky toffee pudding had a bit of a weird after taste I couldn't identify.
If you are going for drinks I highly recommend this pub but I would avoid the food.
A. R.
Friendly staff and a great pub atmosphere! Highly recommend. Halloumi burger was really good and the food service was quick!
V.
Friendly staff & atmosphere, good food & drinks and a decent location for transport when you're ready to call it a night! Furthermore, the heating lamps outside provided much needed warmth for those cold winter months.
V. D.
Friendly, efficient northern lad behind the bar. Great service from him. I've been before and have come back on s quiet Sunday. Always enjoy the music here. Pub has a nice lazy soporific atmosphere on a Sunday. Recommended.
r. b.
Excellent London boozer - really covid safe - table service - great staff excellent service - shame about the toilets being up stairs - excellent atmosphere - really good variety of beers and lagers- definitely will be back
H. M.
Nice place good atmosphere, a neighbour to Greater London House and Mornington Crescent station so can get very busy during the afternoon and early evenings when the surrounding businesses close. Overall very good.
c. c.
Lovely atmosphere, prices arnt to bad and good selection of drinks 🍸 booked a table to watch the England game got great seats and they have lots of big screens also had a dj and good music, I left my jacket behind and staff kept it behind the bar so really happy with our experience highly recommend
c. m.
Great bar staff and good selection of beers. Perfect place to stop if you are a sports fan.
P. J.
Booked a table with my 6 friends for my name’s day and we had the best time ever. Karolina, the manager, was super nice and made the best cocktails! Food was delicious, staff was super nice and everyone followed the rules. 5/5 would recommend it to anyone. Also, they played Bowie ❤️
z.
Nice pub, there are discos there sometimes!
C. C.
Great food, not too crowded, and generally friendly service. Good selection of whiskys and beer. I'm afraid our table devoured the baked camembert before I could snap a good photo, but it was well worth the order.
G. B.
Good atmosphere, bit they've got a real problem with crime. Had my bag nicked with laptop in. A few others I've heard about too.
L. J.
Busy pub with good beer and food right opposite Mornington Crescent tube station. Worth a visit.
D. C.
Great nights, love the staff (very sad to see Katie, Cian and Chelsea gone). Comfy seats and great vibes
A. D. (.
Little gem of a pub!
Really friendly staff, decently priced drinks & beautiful atmosphere.
k. p.
Super cute cozy bar! I'm from America and the menu had so many American options I wanted to try! Unfortunately I was in a hurry, but can't wait to go back! Staff was very sweet!!
F. K. (. M.
Great beer. Fantastic service from very friendly staff.
C. M.
When it's not crowded it's nice, cool music and spacious.
A. N.
OMG the burgers here are amazing!!!! Came here about 5 months ago but returned on Valentines day with my hubby just for these burgers... My hubby had the big cow while I tried the slopy jalopy which was just yummy and you have to try the courgetti they are just delicious 😍😍
A. E.
Lovely pub and great staff! Will be visiting again soon for sure!
S. W. R.
Friendly staff, good beer, decent prices for Camden.
J. P.
Lovely pub, good service, great for watching sports
L. S.
Great Camden pub, at the quieter end of Camden, which makes it good for people looking for a more chilled out drink. Good craft beer selection and a reasonable rotation of cask ale as well.
K. W.
Nice pub with TVs and a projector, so popular with sports fans. Friendly bar staff, reasonable food, and a good selection of beers and wines. Opposite Mornington Crescent underground station (more of which later). Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
It's apparently named 'The Lyttelton Arms' after English jazz musician Humphrey Lyttelton, who, from 1972 until just before his death in 2008, hosted the comedy panel game I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue on BBC Radio 4.
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue included a game called 'Mornington Crescent', hence the Lyttelton connection.
Apparently, according to and uncorroborated item on the web, the game of 'Mornington Crescent' "was originally invented in the late nineteenth century by the drivers of Hackney carriages as a serious attempt to design a one-way system around the increasingly busy area of Euston in London. It is variously credited to Arthur Mowe, a Cockney, and Horstmann Ure, a second generation Silesian immigrant."
The article goes on the claim that "A simple, but profitable, variation on the game is still apparently played by London taxi drivers, because their motto is "He was a stranger, and I took him in". Cabbies try to include Mornington Crescent in every journey. This helps to maximise fares for journeys which would not naturally contain a diversion via the Euston district." However, this is probably just a myth, put about by someone with a dislike for the great London Cabbie.
Whether there is any connection between the original Hackney carriage drivers game and the BBC panel game version is unknown.
R. R.
Nice pub with a good beer selection. Could do with a gluten free beer or a couple of extra ciders for those of us with an intolerance.
J. S.
Trying to describe the burger I just ate at this pub (it’s called the Big Cow burger, by the way) is like trying to explain the concept of particle physics to a particularly dogmatic vicar; both explain the unlikely beauty of the wonders of the natural world, but only one actually stands up to any rigorous interrogation and provides any value for money or thought. And yet curiously the Big Cow may just have made me rediscover faith.
Eat the burgers here — you will not regret it.
N.
Love this place. Love the beer. Come here whenever I can.
S. J.
Really lovely pub I recommend a visit here and the staff are really friendly too
D. S.
Large selection of beers. Virtually empty mud afternoon on a Saturday. Loses a star because there's no reason why a beer and a glass of wine should cost £4 more than it does in my own home town less than an hour a way.
h. n.
Relaxed atmosphere with amazing food.
I chose to come here after work, they have a fine selection of alcohol, got peckish so chose the buffalo cauliflower wings and my god they didn’t disappoint.
Service was fast and friendly, covid restrictions in place were clear and concise.
Toilets were regularly cleaned during my time there
High recommend.
M. C.
Lovely clean bar with very friendly staff, and a well pored pint of guinness
E. M.
Lovely Bar great location and good choice of beer.
D. S.
I go here a lot on a Friday. The staff are friendly, the DJ plays some surprisingly good mix of music (for a bar? Oh yeah!) and the food is awesome. I love coming here actually as I've never had a bad night out when I'm here. The bar staff are generally on top form, friendly and forthcoming.
S. D.
My 1st visit here yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. A bit surprising as I live not far away, but there's a lot of pubs between me and here.
I was impressed by the decor, the cleanliness, the spaciousness, and plenty of comfortable seating. Lots of screens for football etc. The beer selection is pretty good, and prices average for the area. Friendly staff.
The reason I've knocked a star off is for the usual reason: The toilets. Both cubicle doors with broken locks. Although the toilet looked clean, it didn't smell too good. This was at 2pm, before the pub got busy, so they weren't going to improve.
A. G.
Nice but very crowded
Lively pub
I.
Went out for lunch with work colleagues, and was very pleased.
As a vegetarian I'm used to picking out of 2 dishes in a pub, but they had a great range of veggie and vegan food, and plenty of meat and fish options too.
Service was quick and everyone was happy.
S.
This pub has always been a pleasant place to meet friends in the afternoon but it does get too busy for my taste after 5pm. Staff were friendly and it was clean and well prepared for a busy evening with tables booked. Guinness was good too.
B. S.
Just having a Lyttle pint 🍻 awesome pub, me likes 👍👍
M. W.
Nice friendly pub with a good selection of wines.
M. P.
Great place, nice bar staff
J. L.
Great food. Not a small pub so it's a nice place to come. Burgers aren't perfect, but there're many pubs around that serve just burgers, so maybe it's even better that they focus on other traditional meals and they do it great- they stand out by making delicious sausage and mash aesthetic, restaurant level. Keep it up.
C. J.
A really nice place and a great little place to go to before or after a gig in Koko which is just across the road. The place can get very busy at times especially after work, however the service was quick, efficient and friendly and I didn't have to wait long to be served. The selection of drinks on offer are very good with a very good selection of beers from the Camden brewery which is a personal favourite of mine. The food is very good also and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return once back in the area.
D. P.
The best (and cleanest!!) pub in Camden! The service is really quick and the bar staff is always very friendly - they look like they are having a great time themselves, which adds to the amazing atmosphere of the place. They throw good parties too!
I. M.
Great pub. There was live music which was very welcomed. We ordered food which was very tasty and good. Beer was very good, sampled 3 ales all of which was excellent. Quite popular with a friendly atmosphere, somewhere that I would definitely visit again.
J. G. B.
Great atmosphere and really well located. I had some food there too which was fairly decent for pub grub. If recommend the Ruben burger. A friend pointed out that it's a shame the local beer is a lot more expensive than imported larger. Some alcohol free options too which is always a winner.
V. I.
Nice pub with a good selection of guest craft beers. On average they serve more than 15 different beers! Nice atmosphere and music in the evenings is usually very good. Decent space to drink outside when the weather is good.
P. M.
Imensley popular Camden pub at least on Friday nights. Excellent beer selection, didn't attempt to order food but it looked encouraging. Young crowd, busy bustling. Perfect start to a big night. 4*only because it was a scrum at the bar, wrong to castigate a place for being successful. Cheers.
C. D.
A better than average pub. It has a nice atmosphere in the place and tends to be busy at weekends.
The bar staff are friendly and helpful, plus the place is kept clean.
Well worth stopping for a drink at. Also handy for KOKO,
J. F.
Sports is very popular here. Pleasant staff and an amazing location. A great choice of drinks and food.
M.
Went there for a drink after work. Didn't have food. The place was busy but not crowded (Monday evening). Relatively good choice of beers. Rather expensive - count around 5 pounds for a pint. There was a good atmosphere and good mixed crowd.
R. C.
One of my favorite paces to visit! I've been to London twice and both times I made it a point to visit The Lyttelton Arms. For one the Bartenders are nice and very welcoming. The food and drinks were great! Had the bread and butter platter which was delicious! Burger and chips were good too!
V. M.
Really amazing service from Alex behind the bar. Despite having recently lost an eye due to a horrible accident on a fishing trip, Alex was kind, attentive and didn't let his lack of depth perception affect his ability to pour a perfect pint. (His glass eye is the most lifelike I have ever seen!)
I recommend visiting the pub, not only to enjoy one of the many craft beers, but also to listen to Alex's wonderful tale of action and mystery.
O. L.
It's a nice pub in Camden for a couple of drinks before a meal or a night out.
B. C.
Met the wife here for some after work beverages with colleagues. Good times good beers.
L. O.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon for a roast - food was pretty good but some items not available and staff seemed a bit vague..didn't know what was on the menu. It was very quiet which was a nice contrast to the extremely busy Camden market.
M. A.
Vegan burger so small like mc d 99p burger. Sorry never again
I. J. C.
Great pub.
Been there a couple times and my experience was always amazing, great bar staff, great drinks selection and food offers.
Good fun on a Friday night.
K. H.
Probably the coolest wee spot in Camden, good staff
M. M.
Went Sunday afternoon. Table service but they had only about three things on the menu. No burgers, no fish and chips, no chicken, and just one beef roast left. With the left overs we had pork roast but the portions were poor, especially given cost. Lovely pub tho, and waitress really nice.
R. P.
Lovely team, lovely vibe. Great drinks and perfectly seasoned fries!
M. W.
Friendly staff and lively pub
A. S.
Oh my golly gosh, dat purple haired girl was an absolute angel! Table service on bloody point. Waiting time.... what’s that she’s like a super woman. Is her dad FLASH cus wow that service be speedy as!
N. C.
Great staff, great range of beers wines and spirits. Usually very busy at the end of the working day but a half decent amount of space outside on the street which has heaters and awnings in the colder months.
J. J. (.
Very nice pub to go for a drink. You may even find some models around as this pub is very close to ASOS, the fashion retailer. The prices are a bit steep, but it is a nice place. You can even have some fun playing some foosball (free to play).
C. B.
My local pub when at work. Great beers, brilliant staff, a wildly eclectic pub menu (try the prawn buns, hot, sticky, and not expensive). The Lyttleton is a dark pub inside, good for a quiet respite in the day, but it gets lively on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings with a good crowd, DJs, live music.
p. m.
Nice drink, very happy
b. _.
The burgers are pricey but tastes good though. For £8, they don't come with sides. Would give it additional one star otherwise. Cosy place and friendly staff. Good place to have a drink.
L. R.
Nice looking pub and good selection of drinks but dont go to this pub unless you book a table as fourteen tables empty but all reserved so having to stand at the bar.
a. g.
I wasn't sure where to go with my friends that just arrived from overseas for a meal in Camden. I have been once for a drink in The Lyttelton Arms and i like the place, so I decided give it a go again now for a food, we ate a delicious burger 4 for the price of 2, Good deal ... the atmosphere helped a lot to relax, the place is very cozy and funky, the bar staff served us with a proficiency, made us feel comfortable to accept their suggestions, we loved our experience and for sure I will take them there again.
R. C.
Great atmosphere and decor. Food prices and drinks prices were cheaper than expected. Bar staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the drinks on offer.
S. B.
Really great pub, excellent atmosphere and service. One complaint would be the neighbor from upstairs seems a bit of a bother hanging around outside a lot, but yeah always up for coming back what a great place.
L. G.
Went here to catch up with an old friend and it was spot on.
They have enough bar staff so that you get served straight away and a very good selection of drinks and local ales to chose from.
The decor is rather cool too and there is an abundance of seating available - Big oak farmhouse style tables or little old man pub type wing backed chairs. There is a further "area" to the rear of the pub, which looks like you can go here with a large group of friends and it would suit well.
There is food available, we only had the sliders as we weren't that hungry, but for what they were they are fine and arrived quickly.
If you want to meet up with someone that doesn't know the area, then this is an ideal location as it is bang opposite the Mornington Crescent tube station.
Outside there is just the pathway, that is it, one small table and 2 chairs. So not somewhere to go and watch the World go by. If you are waiting to meet friends you can sit towards the end of the bar as you then have good clear vision of who is coming in both doors.
Toilets were immaculate too.
I was a bit meh when I ordered a bottle of wine, it was just plonked in front of me and there was not bucket or cooling device given - this in a really busy pub I can fully understand, but when I ordered it there were only about 3 groups of people in there.
So, all in all, a positive experience and one I will definitely use when meeting up with friends in small or large groups.
P. -.
Delicious food, good atmosphere and very friendly service.
a. d.
Great old pub with good atmosphere and good food
M. W.
Really nice bar, staff are super friendly!
P. W.
Toilets need to be downstairs like they was in the old days. As lady woman girl at the night you feel very vulnerable walking upstairs a
Especially Some toilets have no locks a d Also there is a door leading to the stairs from the street leading to the toilets. Please put the toilets back down stairs.
J. B.
Beer good ambience good but place smelt of drains (or worse) as soon as you walked in. Found a table away from the smell but did put me.off. just one drink and left.
A. L. A.
Used to have a black panther, but according to inside information, it was stolen. However the tables by the window's have been changed to provide an improved view of the now chared non-dome of Koko, aka Camden Palace aka Camden Flip Flop et al.
j. A.
Humph would approve. Friendly staff, plenty of space, a good range of beers. Food is a little hit and miss but still good for the most part. Would happily visit again.
M. T.
Friendly pub in Mornington Crescent which ticks all the boxes for a friendly neighbourhood watering hole. Haven’t tried the food yet but love the bar vibe.
S. P.
The food and beer selection is good

Lovely little pub to have a drink in before heading out. Quite loud music but brings good atmosphere and friendly crowd.
N. W.
Surprisingly large pub with a decent range of cask and keg ales. They also have SecretDJ so you can pick songs from your phone.
M. T.
This pub is quite good, but it's not in the best location and also it gets super crowded in the evening.
G.
Roomy, comfortable pub with a respectable selection of draft beer.

I booked out the back area for a special occasion. I didn't try the food and the drinks were an average London price, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly throughout the night. The back area felt quite private as it is a separate room with open windows/doors to the main pub, and could hold a good number of people (30+). A great experience.

I've been here a few times recently and can't not give it full marks.
Brilliant location, lively energy, good music, friendly staff. Ample selection behind the bar and a good-looking food menu (though I have not tried it.)
I've been for work drinks a few times and although a bit loud perhaps where we were placed, it was a fun atmosphere.
I've also been with friends a handful and it was always a great night. Another advantage is it's basically next door to a bar opened til 3 and opposite a big Sainsbury's if you fun out of cigarettes or need to buy you dinner on the way home.🤦
Everything on its door step. The tube is literally 20 meters away.
Perhaps a good first date stop as well?

(Translated) I often bring my Russian-speaking guests here to show what the London Pub is. This place is more special because it has a good evening atmosphere with very pleasant workers, a luxurious interior, and also a table service, and not a typically dirty English pub with sticky tables and peasants who rage. I am a girl and I love to bring my girlfriends here after work, just like all the workers in the area come here by 5 o'clock in white shirts in black pants straight from the office! I advise everyone here to come for a pint or two and then from here to go on to continue the night at the nearest bars and night clubs, or to stay on their parties and DJ every Friday and Saturday.
