Reviews of The Mall Tavern, Notting Hill
L. 4.
Nipped into the Mall Tavern on Sunday afternoon to finish the weekend off in style with a few cold drinks!!
This has always been a big favourite of ours, they do some of the best chicken wings in London, a cracker of a Sunday Roast and there is always, ALWAYS great beer to be had both on tap and in the fridges!! 👏🏻👍🏻
Also, it might have been the location of our very first date!! 🥰🤩
The place was busy with people tucking into food and making the most of the last of the weekend… the food was superb as always (there was also a great Cheeseburger we devoured before getting a picture of - I know, I know!! 😉😭)
Expect to see us posting a lot more content from here as the summer days approach!!
Our fave things: Hard to find anything you won’t like about this place - get down there and give it a whirl!!
📍🚇| 5 minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station
L. C.
I walked in for a Sunday roast and they allowed me to sit at the bar because fully booked. Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff are also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is a main priority. Bloody Mary was great with the horseradish. Food looks good... really pub menu, some classics and some twists, and for their prices it’s 100% worth it.
C. J.
Easily one of my fave boozers in London..
Friendly staff, all the craft beer you could want and some of the best wings I’ve found in London..
Rest of the menu is really interesting too..
Watched most of the Euros here, good outside space and a really cool private dining area.
A real gem in Notting Hill!
T. P.
Really lovely pub just off the main high Street. We only had a drink here but the staff were friendly and accommodated us even though we were just having drinks and the place was fully booked (New Year's Bank holiday). We did see a Sunday lunch come out on the table next to us and it looked home made, it will be something we would like when we are next down here visiting.
T. M.
I've had many vegan roasts and this is one of, if not, the best. A vegan Yorkshire would definitely take it above and beyond. Good selection of beers and despite being very busy great service too.
J. R.
Did was great the drink selection was amazing so many to pick from Local Cider and Beer and Gin 😁🇬🇧
B. M.
I have lived in Linden Gardens for two years and this pub is my go to for a relaxed evening with friends or my wife. Excellent music, great beer choices, quite a few spaces outside (front and back). The service is generally super nice. The food is maybe a bit pricey but super good!
A. C.
I have no idea why the overall rating of The Mall Tavern isn't higher, it's great!
I made a last minute, late afternoon reservation for Sunday lunch (after a bad experience elsewhere meant we decided to leave).
The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was buzzy but relaxed, which isn't easy when the pub and restaurant were clearly very busy.
I had the nut roast and my boyfriend had a cheeseburger. Both were delicious.
I'd say for the location and quality of food, everything was well priced.
We had a lovely afternoon and it served as a great reminder to come back more often, thank you!
J. K.
Food & Beer great! Shame really as the poor service and loud music totally throws everything out the window. Literally had to ASK for everything, from changing a table away from smokers, to moving from another table next to the TOILET! to ordering more beers.
N. W.
Triple cooked chips barely cooked once. Ordered from the bar and £2 “discretionary” “service” charge added.
M. T.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food, and great craft beer selection.
V. I. S.
I went to The Mall Tavern for a Sunday roast dinner with my family. Everything was great, especially the roast. The beef was super tasty as well as the veggies, potatoes and gravy, overall the portion was very big compared to other places I’ve tried. Price- quality was amazing and the staff was very nice. We enjoyed our visit a lot!
C. v. S.
Very good place for some good beers and a quick snack, people are super kind and it's an amazing atmosphere! Greatly recommend!
A. E.
Food was very good, lots of beers on tap to try and the staff was genuinely interested in understanding my taste in beer. Was able to squeeze us in with no reservations and dealt with our two kids, exhausted from the playground. Great experience.
m. g.
Good beer selection, plus it's open later than most pubs around the area. Toilets not great, but there was a sign saying they're refurbishing.
K. O.
Mt first visit to the Mall Tavern and have to say was really pleased. Most of all the craft beer selection is very good, amongst the best I have found in my many visits to London. The building is very cool as well and the beer keepers knowledgeable and very friendly.
Tried a couple of starters as snacks and was pleased as well. Will certainly be a place I go back to in future and is also near the Notting Hill Gate tube stop
C. L.
Amazing Sunday Roast. Honestly one of the best I've had living all my life in London. They do great other dishes too. A huge selection of beer on tap for a pub, and more in bottles. Cozy with a classic/modern slightly industrial interior.
K. B.
Easily one of the best roasts I’ve had in London. The nut roast is absolutely delicious—I’m a not a vegetarian by any means but I actually prefer this roast. I return here time and time again and each time is perfect. Very solid beer and cocktail menu, as well, and beautiful rooms for private events.
M.
Amazing food in this place! Starters were delicious. My favourite for now is spinach&artichoke dip. Must try! Plus they have milk stout on tap:) they have a beer cellar with tables downstairs that I discovered having a dinner there with my girlfriend. You can apparently rent it out for birthday party’s or whatever party’s. It’s just a very nice pub in Notting hill I recommend to visit:)
B. J.
Amazing food. Great beer selection (Standard Brew New England). Attentive service.
Had a lovely birthday meal here, we had a selection of the small plates and was honestly surprised how nice they were, especially the veggie ones. The beer choice was great too, only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer to sample them all. 10/10 would go again. Banging.
M. C.
Great pub, great service. The food really well prepared and big portion. They prepared a nice and cosy space with Christmas tree, crackers for us to celebrate our small Christmas party and we felt at home. Thank all staff for making our Friday night special.
J. J.
Fantastic beer. With tap takeovers and lovely burgers. Only thing is the staff. Totally uninterested in the punters. More concerned with talking to their mates than anything else. I think in the 2-3 times I've been in I've not been welcomed once. Shame as it could be brilliant otherwise.
P. S.
Amazing place, nice traditional English pub with large selection of local craft beers and probably best Beef Ale Pie I ever had.
R. H.
When I imagine an English pub, this place is exactly what I would be imagining. Great beer selection, great well seasoned food and the atmosphere and service were phenomenal! Oh yeah, the cherry on top- good prices.
C. D.
Excellent pub! Lots and lots of beer options and great decoration. Nice and cozy environment! Love it.
A. K.
I've only had the starters there but the quality of the food is really good. The only downfall is that it's quite a loud atmosphere.
M. W.
Excellent selection of drinks, food very good as well.
F. C.
We had a great night! Delicious food, big portions and good selection of cocktails and beer. We had the private room for a birthday and it was perfect for us being a group of 15. Will definitely go back!
K. D.
The food was really good - maybe the best we had during our visit to London (we got croquettes, a burger and fish and chips). Lots of craft beer options. The only funny thing was that - even though we booked a table online in advance - we were seated on the bar side instead of in the restaurant. The restaurant was nearly empty the entire time we were there, with proper tables and chairs that looked very appealing. The bar side had tiny stools, a banquette and little tables packed together. It was also full of people standing around drinking and hanging at the bar. We ended up sitting on the same side of the table so one of us didn’t have to be sitting on a mini stool in the fray of people partying, but then we felt bad when they seated a single man next to us and he was stuffed in the corner to keep away. The only thing we could guess is that it’s their policy to seat one or two tops on the bar side - so unless you’re dining w a group I would ask to sit on the restaurant side when you make your booking.
J. F.
I have decided to come to this place for a Sunday roast as this pub was in my “want to go” list, I have emailed to make a reservation on the same day, but they couldn’t find a place for me as they were fully booked. They suggested me to walk in and so I did and managed to taste their Sunday Roast. I recommend!!
L. R.
Amazing Sunday lunch and the ideal place for three vegetarians, one vegan and three carnivores - something to suit everyone! The vegan chickpea quinoa burger was super good. Staff were super attentive and very friendly too, great service.
D. H.
Best pub lunch I found in London. Excellent range of interesting beer, staff who know what they are talking about, perfect food with a range to please kids, wife and me too.
K. B.
We have dined here twice, once pre-pandemic and once recently for outdoor dining, and had great experiences both times. The servers are pleasant and attentive and our food was top notch. We love the menu offerings (equally suitable for vegetarians and carnivores) and the quality of the dishes. We look forward to returning.
J. K.
I love this pub!!! Great beer, great location, and my favorite Sunday Roast at a reasonable price. Good deserts too!
J. N.
Nice Gastropub with great table service. Had the Fish and chips which were really good, plus sides of chips, mashed peas and homemade tartare sauce were great!! We'll be back for the Tuesday 2 for 1's! The Sunday Roast is also the best Ives had in London so far!
B. T.
nice pub in an area full of bad pubs. good food, good choice of drinks, good staff.
Updating my review since hiring private space upstairs for a surprise party. Jake and his staff were all brilliant. Would recommend to anyone - had a great time, food was exceptional, and the service was even better. Thanks! Wish i could have afforded a bigger fatter tip!
A. N.
Super service decent food and a good choice of beers available on tap.
A. W.
Had a beautiful Christmas meal in the upstairs room. Great food at very reasonable prices. Incredibly courteous and polite staff.
C. S.
The best fish and chips I've ever had!
M. T. M. L.
Very nice pub with a quirky atmosphere in Notting Hill! Would highly recommend coming for the Sunday roast (the beef and vegan nut roast is divine). Another recommendation is the black pudding scotch egg that’s served on the regular menu.
J. W.
Great food and super people, so friendly. Recommend the pork on Sunday
O. A.
We visited this place for Sunday roast. Very good atmosphere. Exceptional customer service. Management super friendly and careful. But food wasn’t good. Beef was super chewy and tasteless, however trimmings was good. I expected something better, but not favourless and chewy beef substitute for £18.
N. P.
What you expect from an English pub. Nothing more, nothing less. Tasty cod , very good chips.
F. H.
Great beer, good food, friendly knowledgeable staff.
C. “. L.
This awesome pub serves great food in bargain prices and offers a great selection of beers 🍻 too. Definitely go for it.
A.
A big shout out to the Mall Tavern.
One of the best customer service. We visited yesterday and despite we didn’t book it they did their best to accommodate us.
The Portuguese guy working there was very kind, always helpful and nice. To be honest you rarely find this type of service. All the staff is great. Nice atmosphere and good food.
D. D.
Surprisingly good food and great beer selection!
Z. A.
We had a great time here! Small beer garden that could use some more little nice lights but we still enjoyed it out there. The staff is incredibly polite and our waitress was very helpful and patient.
We went on a Tuesday and could save some money on the food which was incredible! I had a delicious steak. One mistake though I have to mention is that the steak came done (instead of medium-rare as I ordered it before). But it was surprisingly still super tasty (I was surprised because I am normally quite picky about this kind of stuff) and I enjoyed it, so still full 5 star review. Also the gravy was fantastic!!! I will definitely go there again.
s. p.
Nice food love espresso martini
a. m.
Great beer selection and bartender was good crack, plus the sunday roast was enough for two bellies yumm
E. S.
The new menu is absolutely delicious, I would highly recommend the beef brisket croquettes, cheeseburger or steak. The wine / beer list has such a great variety too. I don't usually leave reviews but this place was memorable and I will definitely be back!
J. L.
Great place to stand outside during nice weather as there are outdoor heaters and a dedicated outdoor area. They also have a beer garden. They have their own Mall Tavern lager - very reasonably priced for that area. A very pleasant pub with a great vibe.
M. S.
First day visiting London. Stopped by for a pint and fish & chips. We got the last order and we're not disappointed. I had read a previous review that rated them poorly. I was impressed with the owners response to the review. The owner agreed with the reviewer and took action to improve the batter recipe and source high grade fish and potatoes. We were not disappointed with the improvements. Also we had the califlower wings. The were superb.
M. I.
Brilliant pub hidden gem near Notting Hill Gate station just off the high street keeping it never too busy.
The pub has large and small tables perfect for any group size which was highly attractive when I visited with a large group of old friends.
The pub great mix of beers on tap, along with cider and a large range of mixers. The bar service was fast and I was never waiting any longer than a few minutes.
Worth a visit.
A. A.
Very good metal andò beers
N. E.
A lovely atmosphere and loads of craft ales that change regularly.
You can get notifications of when new ales arrive in the Untapped app, which is handy.
H. Y.
This pub usually isn't too busy, which is what I love about it. We've had drinks here a couple of times, great selections on tap. The food is decently priced. I was told the Mac & Cheese was phenomenal, but I thought it was a bit too heavy and hard to eat a whole serving. Would recommend the truffle fries though. Worth a visit!
K. H.
Really nice pub. Great service. Excellent roast on a Sunday.
E. V.
Wonderful! We came for Sunday roast but they were already sold out. We had burgers instead and they were delicious. The beer was incredible, I really enjoyed their Northern Monk Mango Lassi IPA. The service was quick, attentive and very welcoming. Couldn't recommend enough.
Z. R.
I had some excellent food here, really good, I’d highly recommend. This place also has a great selection of drinks, especially wine.
P. H.
Love this pub and always really buzzing with a cute little outdoor space at the back for smokers and the summer.
Not been in for a while and popped in this Friday and impressed by the increased lager and ale selection, plus it’s always been a great place to get unusual gins too.
Only reason for not having 5 stars is that they don’t accept Amex and as it looks like becoming a foodie pub too, they may want to rethink this to attract more diners.
C. O.
One of my favorite pubs in London! They always have a vast amazing selection of craft beers and it is a really comfortable welcoming pub to spend many joyous hours in :)
D. P.
Great pub, big selection of beer/ales. Nice staff. Visiting daily :)
D. P.
Nice pub but expensive. Not all the craft beers are that good tbh
J. O.
We had the chicken wings which were nice and crispy. The spicy blue cheese dressing would have been too much poured over the wings so I am glad we asked for it at the side. The roasts were generous portions and delicious. I did not want any roast potatoes and they kindly gave more vegetables instead. Service was friendly and welcoming.
F. R.
First visit to the Mall Tavern under a new menu, and the food was exceptional. We started with freshly baked Focaccia with Marmite butter, Smoked Brisket Croquettes - both of which tasted fantastic. The tavern comes stocked with an impressive craft ale & beer menu, had I not been taking part in Stoptober I would have sampled many of them. I look forward to visiting again!
M. W.
Visiting the area and went for Sunday Roast. I had the beef and partner had the pork. both were spectacular. We live in another part of London and would happily make the trek here for a Sunday roast if we were in this part of town. Good selection of beer and nice staff.
R. N.
Amazing food, especially the small plates - perfect blend of classic with a modern twist. Wine and beer list also great. Really friendly staff, great atmosphere and playlist. Highly recommend!
K. P.
Great beer selection and food menu. Decent offers on Tuesdays and other days of the week. One of the better Sunday roasts I’ve had in a while with huge portions and excellent potatoes (but the gravy was very salty).
C. S.
Great roast dinner on Sunday. Large portion of meat and the veg was cooked perfectly. Worth every penny 👌
P. G.
Lovely pub experience with excellent burgers. I had the chicken, my partner the beef, and both were delicious. Standard London prices. A warm, bustling atmosphere with close seating, slightly off the beaten Notting Hill path. Great deals too - 50% bottles of prosecco on Thursday and buy one get one free meals on Tues.
S.
Delicious Sunday roast but the staff were a bit tight-lipped and didn’t return our smiles. The place was almost empty as well so it’s not like they were under stress. The food matched Notting Hill standards but not the service which was efficient but very cold. We live next door and would have happily made this place a regular for the good food, but aren’t planning on coming back after the frosty reception.
M. R.
This was the first pub in our area to do takeaway beers. Friendly bartending staff and good beer options. Great location for a drink to take to the park on a sunny afternoon. Can't wait to visit and spend some time inside when it's fully open again!
L. C.
A good local pub in the Notting Hill area that is tucked away from the busy roads. The staff are friendly and helpful. Providing good support for those with food intolerances or allergies. The venue typical dark and intimate. With pop hits playing and a separate area for food bookings. The food is good and the fries are very nice. A great place to come for a drink or to meet with a group. Prices are very reasonable. Worth a visit.
W. M.
This was a fortunate find for us. Looking for just a place to get a late dinner, we happened on a local pub. The food and drink was excellent, but it was the service that impressed all of us, from grandparents to teens. Katie, our server, bartender, and everything else was attentive and truly caring, and made a simple dinner a special occasion. Worth going to, and worth going back to!
P. C.
Really great pub with friendly staff
D. v. R.
This pub is great with It's beer garden and most definitely It's happy hour. Its perfect for grabbing a beer after work with some colleagues or friends. On top of that they also have great food, I had the flat iron chicken and it was much better than expected. Really juicy tasty chicken breast.
P. C. (.
Me and 7 friends has Sunday roast there 2 days ago. the food was absolutely fantastic! Cooked to perfection and swift time from order to table. Service was reasonable as drink orders seemed to be rather slow, but the atmosphere and top quality food made it a very special night.
D. B.
A Genuinr Pub with Good Grub. We stopped by for Sunday Roast and all 6 of us ordered the ribeye. Service was friendly & quick and the food was well prepared. Music was a bit loud but we all enjoyed dinner and the experience.
B. H.
Nice beer list and lovely food
S. L.
Excellent pub in Notting Hill which was a surprise find. It is part of the Beer + Burger Store stable, although you would be hard pressed to know it on first glance. Predictably excellent burgers, great service and a beer list that will satisfy everyone from lager guzzlers to beer geeks.
C. E.
Spectacular experience, customer service, sublime, and the menu, delicious
C. F.
Great pub, excellent roast
M. P.
I had the pork belly as my Sunday Roast. It was delicious! The crackling was super crispy (slightly over salted though). The outdoor garden was nice and quiet (could use a little more decoration/upkeep). And the waitstaff was super attentive.
S. M.
We had booked a table, but the prior guests were still seated and had ordered food. The staff were really accommodating and got our table for us. It just so happened it was a Tuesday and it's 50% off food, one of my friends was vegetarian and there were loads of things she could eat. It was really lively and a great atmosphere. Will be back soon I'm sure
L. S.
Nice and cosy. Could be a little crowded in the evening, but the other pubs in the area aren't any better either. They have great food discounts every day. We tried the spicey chicken wings: it was very unique for us and the portion was also great.
D. K.
What a friendly crew! I'll definitely get back to that pub on my next visit to London. :)
R. A.
A lucky find for the first time, we were returning here once or twice during our week stay in London. For the food, every bit of which was delicious. For the atmosphere, which is relaxed and very UK. It’s not your typical family restaurant, but our 4,5 years old enjoyed it no less than us adults.
r. c.
the new menu is fantastic, the small plates are all really interesting, the Hispi cabbage being a highlight. drinks selection is really good and the staff are nice and friendly. hard to ask for more
D. S.
This pub has a great combination of awesome food and a fine range of beers and ales to enjoy alongside. Half price food on Tuesdays makes this a no-brainer, but be sure to book as you will struggle to get a table after work.
B. H.
Stumbled across this pub on a Friday night when we wanted to go for a inpromptu meal before the cinema. The service couldn't have been better, they knew we were in a rush so ensured we could get a table as fast and possible and were super attentive. The man who was running the show, front of house was asbolutely fantastic and we'll definitely be back for lots more visits! Great food too :)
K. L.
Lovely little pub, just off the main road so not too full of Notting Hillbillies. Menu changes daily and usually good food. Quite a few pub classics, pork scratchings, pies - all tarted up as befits the area. Nice little beer garden, quiet and serene. Nice spot to hang out with a few beers in the sun
C. P.
Another fantastic pub.
Food was delicious. Staff were friendly. Pints were cold.
K. S.
I booked the 'Library Room' for the private dining experience at the mall tavern for a work event. We had our own waiter who was very attentive and knew the dishes well.
We asked for a few alterations to the sharing menu, all of which were changed by the chefs which was amazing. The Freemans spinach and Artichoke dip was absolutely incredible! I wasn’t sure on the sharing starters and desserts for a work event like ours but it worked very well and there was something for everyone. Huge main course and lovely puddings, all for £28.50 per head. Would definitely go back.
M. C.
One of those British pubs that feel like you are in a small village, eating real food, surrounded by genuine people. Loved the Sunday roast and the selection of beers. Really good and definetely worth repeating!
B. C.
Cozy, quaint, and lively British pub. Food is excellent and service is quick.
K. 3.
A nice traditional locals pub.
The place is really surprising as it is larger inside then it looks from the outside.
Quality of the dishes was superb.
With efficient staff we got attention and good service.
The is also a private room for any occasion.
Cool Tavern !!
A. E.
Great pub. Good beer selection, good food, well designed interior with enough seating for drinking and eating. The only caveat is the price: it's not a local boozer, so it's a bit on the dear side, but you get what you pay for: strong, tasty beers and delicious, freshly cooked food.
C. G.
Great Beer, Food, ambiance and Music. Great service!
C. R.
Lively proper pub and the place where I met my fiancé. Not sure they guarantee that for everyone though
O. W.
This is a great boozer with 23 beer taps, 3 of which are cask ale and well looked after. The team here work very hard to look after it’s customers. Always friendly, upbeat and helpful. The food is typical pub food but delicious and does bring in a crowd. Catering for all there is a brilliant range of craft beer from Beavertown, Kernel, Wild Beer co., Tiny Rebel, Burning Sky to Cloudwater. Possibly the best pub in Notting Hill.
H. A.
I went to the Mall Tavern for NYE. The library room is amazing and the dinner was very good and also the service. I would have enjoyed more of the dessert though! I may booked the library room for other events in the future.
A. G.
I enjoyed it, probably because I met up with a friend after 28 years! I'm told the burgers are particularly good. Go try it - you'll even get to play with a dog or two. Yup, dogs are allowed!
B. W.
The Sunday supper was great. They ran out of the beef and pork but the lamb was great. The beer selection was varied...kinda. Of the nearly two dozen beers on draught, the vast majority were IPAs.
S. F.
Great pub for craft beer. Always a huge selection on tap and cans in the fridge. Food here is also top notch, but make sure you book if you want a Sunday roast as walking in is next to impossible!
K. R.
Very unique decor, original, just love it, lovely staff, great drinks. Would highly recommend.
M. B.
Great food. We had a selection of starters, scotch egg, cheese balls, dips, and they were all lovely. Nice selection of beers. Friendly staff.
P. M.
I went there with a friend everything was lovely (the food the place) but the (we think) manager, an Italian lady very unfriendly and always with an upset face.
A. K.
Excellent beer choices but restricted to keg lines. 3 handpulls with the off gem but usually typical moderate fare. Some beers are very pricey but some great selections. Great grub.
M. s.
Lovely chicken wings. Not a fan of the croquettes or toffee pudding but fish and chips are lush
B. P.
A classic pub close to the Notting Hill buzz. Greatest "Fish & Chips" I had in my whole trip through London on June 2016. Friendly staff recommended me a great pint of beer to go with my meal without pulling my leg on the price.
M. H.
Had a great time here. Ben was tending bar and was very conversational, and very knowledgeable about his craft. Tons of great beers both on draft and in bottles. I'll be back my next time through London.
A. B.
Brilliant little place. Great selection of beers, fantastic music playing and friendly staff. An opportunistic find but will definitely be going back.
M. B.
Great food and selection of beer. The staff is friendly and they always try to accommodate - happy hour weekdays until 7pm is the cherry on top.
H. L.
A really great pub! I booked a table for two last Friday, the food was yummy, the staff were friendly and accommodating AND drinks are half-price until 7pm. We'd definitely go back.
L. W.
Absolutely amazing vegan burger and the fries and salad were also top notch. Great selection of beer and friendly staff. Would definitely come back.
P. A.
Good beer range. Bit grubby inside. Apparently good for celeb spotting. The food seemed popular. It's on an odd corner that drunk-you won't appreciate when stumbling out.
d.
Stopped by for a quick drink. Excellent selection of beers and cocktails. Nice area to sit in too. Food menu looked good but did not try
j. n.
Brilliant burgers, definitely recommend the fries with cheese and gravy (it's enough for two). Only downfall is the bar gets busy and you tend to get brushed by Alot of people going past.
A. H.
Delicious Sunday roast. Potatoes weren't great as they were brutally overcooked for all 4 in our party, but the chicken and vegetables were excellent! Will definitely return in the hope of nicer spuds!
J. G.
Inexhaustible range of spectacular beers and simply wonderful food. The shared steak was a tour de force!
A. F.
In terms of food, the best pub I've been. Best fish and chips I have tried in the UK so far, definitely recommended for those who want to try F&C.
R. O.
The wine and beer choices are great. Artichoke dip was superb, the spicy wings are the best so far. Josh best bartender so far in London.
S.
Nice place to chill and have a pint, very good service and staff are friendly. Prices are just right and ideal.
A. P.
I was called out to London for business, so naturally I nosed around online for tips on craft beer. I'm a West Coast hop head, so I was curious to learn that there has been an "American style" craft beer revolution working its way through London, much the same way it has in North America. After a couple of days, I had been to more than half a dozen different pubs in London (specifically Kensington) and sampled their offerings - especially anything flagged "new wave" or "craft". They had not been impressive. From this foreigner's perspective, the English style ale is soft, malted, eminently quaffable, but not particularly strong or varied in character. Not much to distinguish one brew from another; enjoyable but ultimately, bland for those with a taste for the violently hopped beers of the States. With one or two exceptions, the craft brews of London I had been hearing about seemed more of the same.
Externally, the Mall Tavern appears like a conventional pub (although it was quite dark at the time!). I think it does stands out somewhat in being located in a fairly quiet neighbourhood in Notting Hill/Kensington (forgive my tenuous grasp of London geography) -- a stone's throw from Hyde Park. It has a collegial grad-school atmosphere indoors. There's an outdoor patio in the back, and a "library" room upstairs that can be booked for parties and tastings. The staff were really welcoming and gave me a small tour upstairs, just because I was curious.
The stars of the show for me were three pump taps featuring local craft beers. I had pints of all three; they were excellent. Well hopped, distinctive flavours. The closest thing I could compare them to back home would be Ninkasi's Tricerahops. I can only hope to get some of this beer back home. Another highlight was an import from the US: an IPA from Red Hook on tap. The bartender was rightfully proud of getting this one in.
I can't speak to the food, as I didn't have any. But the next time I'm in London, I'm definitely headed back here for the beer.

Had my works leaving do here really enjoyed it food was good, music also.

i recently had dinner at the pop-up shop 'Beer and Burger' at the Mall Tavern and the burger with bacon and cheese is simply phenomenal, I would personally recommend it even though it was around £8. Although it was a bit crowded and loud, i didn't mind, the service was good.
S.
This place is epic. My friend and I stopped for a quick bite and had a great time. The bar staff are lovely and it makes the atmosphere very welcoming. Can't wait to go back
D. P.
Came for Sunday lunch, atmosphere was great food was outstanding!! Pork belly roast was the buisness!! Will be back for sure, the selection of beers was impressive too!
M. J.
Got a great seat at the bar but couldn't get a burger, unfortunately, as hadn't booked and they were pushed out. A good sign I guess. Still enjoyed a beer
A. M.
Great atmosphere, interior, prices, and staff. Widest pub draught selection in the area.
I miss their temporary burger partnership Beer + Burger so much, though.
F. S.
I've been going there for lunch for a while. The food is very good and you can get it half price for lunch which makes it very good value.
Usually quite busy in the evenings but still a nice atmosphere.
A. R.
Good contemporary decor with some great pics of HRH in the toilet. Roast beef was nice and bloody but not too under cooked red wine went very well. Good times and recommended.
T. F.
Super staff and enjoyed our time there. Worth booking a table as they are in the sunshine. Drop in are in shade.
I. K.
Some interesting beer brands + a fine Pinot No oire served here
S. H.
Came across this pub almost by accident. Absolutely love it! The beer choice was amazing. Bright but cozy atmosphere. Will be returning soon.
N. K.
Lovely atmosphere and service is wonderful - unusually each waiter/waitress has a truly individual and warm personality. The salmon fishcakes which were truly tasty.
M. B.
Really cool pub with friendly staff, a great selection of beer and amazing burgers. We got the chicken burger and added bacon and cheese - literally the best chicken burger we found in Europe!
M. M.
A fun English pub with a good beer selection.
K. P. (.
While all the other pubs/wine bars between Notting Hill Gate and High Street Kensington were packed, this one was surprisingly not - but in a good way. Pints are about the same cost as the other bars in the area (£3.50-£5 depending on the brew) and they also offer Notting Hill real ale. The staff are friendly and the place has plenty of tables and stools to sit at. I'll definitely be back for an after-work pint.
N. J.
The food is good but we were asked to leave 5mn after paying while I was finishing my beer because they "need to turn the tables"... it's just rude.
J. H.
The team that work here are so friendly and nice. The food is tasty and good value.
D. E. (.
Nice selection of beers. Good food. The burgers just melt in your mouth! Definitely coming again.
P. M.
Have really good sour beers on tab which are hard to find elsewhere. Classics like Camden on tap too as well as a good range of craft beer
L. B.
Food is really good, large portions! Good atmosphere! Staff are very friendly!
S. P.
Proper beer in relaxed surroundings. Half price food on Tuesdays is outstanding
D. B.
A Genuinr Pub with Good Grub. We stopped by for Sunday Roast and all 6 of us ordered the ribeye. Service was friendly & quick and the food was well prepared. Music was a bit loud but we all enjoyed dinner and the experience.
A. K.
Excellent beer choices but restricted to keg lines. 3 handpulls with the off gem but usually typical moderate fare. Some beers are very pricey but some great selections. Great grub.
N. S.
Was seated in a corridor so in the way of people walking past. Food was great tho.
C. P.
Amazing food, great service from super friendly staff and a well curated beer list. They do 50% off food on Tuesday's so great value as well
K. S.
Great local. Always a phenomenal beer and cider list, and the food is really on point. Doesn't try to be anything it's not.
P. O.
The food and atmosphere were great but the Staff were amazing! We were 7 people and 3 were kids, they looked after us all wonderfully!!

An example of the modern migration towards venues that are more gastro than pub, The Mall Tavern carries it off with aplomb. It’s been a pub since 1856, but 2010 was the year that the Perritt Brothers gave it a serious lick of paint and got Jesse Dunford Wood to magic up a menu.
There are two main rooms on the ground floor, a bar area with bank seating, which becomes a restaurant area at busier times, and the main dining room, fronted by a full height orangery-esque window and decked out with reclaimed Victorian furniture and obligatory chandelier. Upstairs is a private dining room, outside a lovely little oasis of a garden. It’s a modern classic and well turned out, but far from without some quality quirks. A vintage glass whiskey dispenser hangs merrily above the bar, the garden is surrounded by plant pots that take the form of coronation mugs, and big curiosity cabinets hug the walls above the dining tables. But perhaps the real draw card is up the stairs, following the signs for the “Kitchen Table”.
The clue is in the name – this is a table in the kitchen. Eating here is a full on experience. It has to be booked in advance, but you walk through kitchen itself, get a cheerful hello from the team, and saddle yourselves down at a wooden table right in the thick of the action. A low slung carpet light hangs above; this is nothing like the fusty chefs’ tables at some restaurants. The menu is different to the main restaurant, with Jesse and the team serving you up their favourites, regularly accompanied by a background of disco tunage, and there’s even a bell on the table provided to ring for when you’re keen for more. They take bookings for as few as 2, for a special date (or a business meeting with a meat cleaver nearby) and as many as 8. And there’s a door that says “Whodunnit?”on it. What more could you want…
Back to the main restaurant, and onto the menu. In short, anywhere that serves gourmet Chicken Kiev (or Kyiv as they say here) and homemade Rolos is fine by us. It’s best of British classics with a charismatic twist, wonderfully done. The real draw is the Sunday roast, rated as London’s finest by the Roasted Sundays gang.
In the summer get here early for a spot in the garden and you’ll be more than set. All in all a fine spot to come for a hearty meal and a jolly good time.
Thanks for the tip off: Roasted Sundays Blog.

One of the best pubs in the area is tucked away from the main street but well worth finding. Always a great selection of well kept beers in a buzzing and well run pub
t.
Been a few times as a haunt of local diplomats living in the area but it is nothing special. Cramped, few beer options, untidy, rushed staff, very noisy. Typical pub to be honest.
M. I.
Was worried it was another hipster bar, but there wasn't a man bun in sight! Was genuinely cool and relaxed, and had an interesting menu. Will be back for the happy hour.
P. M.
Have really good sour beers on tab which are hard to find elsewhere. Classics like Camden on tap too as well as a good range of craft beer

The food is good but we were asked to leave 5mn after paying while I was finishing my beer because they "need to turn the tables"... it's just rude.

L. B.
Every Sunday morning we walk past the tavern and it smells amazing so we finally booked Sunday lunch there. It gets packed, but the food was terrific.
B. W.
Loud, hot and only 2 choices of cider. Food was good and was close by. I prefer a quieter place but it did the job in a pinch.
h.
The meal and the beer were good. One of my favorite memories in London. I'll go back later
T. K. H.
Good food, nice atmosphere for a pub. Good service. Can stay late drinking a large variety of beers.

fun pub, it can be a bit raa. But the clientele are generally pretty nice and the staff are very friendly. One of my locals so it's nice to pop by.
E. M.
Really great food at a good price. The staff are all very friendly. Take a scarf though, as the place is very draughty & cold in the winter.
A. P. R.
A gastropub with a very tasty looking menu, as food was coming for everybody I thought I needed to come back to try the other dishes. The risotto was very tasty and filling. I will def repeat the visit :)
