Reviews of The Mayflower Pub
R. V.
One star for service, which was absolutely great - they were all very attentive, paid attention to detail, they were very helpful and kind. Another star for the views which were absolutely lovely. Another star for atmosphere, fire place and the fact that the whole pub was ever so romantic and cozy. And the last star is for presentation of the food and gigantic Yorkshire pudding. Sadly the food was very disappointing, the lamb was ever so chewy with loads of fat on it, roast potatoes were not done and very hard - never been more disappointed with a roast dinner in my life... It is not that difficult to get it right!!
R. G.
A cold day to visit but kept warm due to outdoor heaters as we sat outside overlooking the Thames. Fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding were excellent and service friendly and helpful though my sons did have to wait a bit longer for their order even though girlfriend and I ordered after them.
C. C.
Great food at the restaurant. Prices are a little bit higher than usual for a pub - likely based on the location - but the food is worth it I would say. Decent vegetarian options. And the service was good as well. It’s an intimate dimly lit restaurant, which I personally don’t enjoy but it is still a nice spot for a pub dinner.
J.
One of the most famous pubs in South London, but it's not overrated. Great service even when crowded, amazing thameside views on the back patio. But the inside is just as good. Probably best inside on a cold winter day, and outside on a breezy summer one.
N. H.
I came here on a quiet, wintery Monday for a few beers and a light bite. The outdoor heaters were on, and the views of a quiet Thames were a treat.
The staff were friendly, and there was a good variety of food and beers available.

One of London's oldest pubs? Sign me up.
Recommended by a friend, I took the journey out to her place to have dinner here. Love the overall vibe of this place, which mixes history with hipster (trivia night was happening when I was there)..
Food was reasonably priced for London and came out quite tasty - we tried some delicious daily specials. Decent beer selection on tap as well.
Love the general feeling of this place, and would be happy to go back. It's a bit out of the way, but worth the trip.

Historic pub, apparently where the mayflower ship left from taking the pilgrim fathers to the US about 400 years ago. Claims to be the oldest pub on the Thames though a few pubs make that claim. Nice historic interior and rear seating overlooking the Thames.
C. S.
I love the atmosphere and the vibe this pub gives. The location is lovely and if you step out in their garden the view is magical!
Not too much choices for the beers, while the food menu is quite wide.
Staff very friendly !

Had a lovely meal here on Thursday 3rd Feb. Atmosphere was great, Food absolutely amazing I’d highly recommend the Sausage and Mash a nice hearty portion I couldn’t eat it all. And as for the Sticky Toffee Pudding and custard that was just heaven in a bowl! Great Service from Tara, Giovanni and Milos.
Will definitely be back. Keep up the good work guys ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Incredible pub right on the main river Thames (rhymes with James). Great staff and chill about where you consume your poison of choice. Probably the best hand pulled lager in the area with a quaint setting which lures you into staying there into the wee hours. Would recommend post social sports game or local gathering.

Historic pub on the river Thames. A must visit. Really good service. The potted crab was delicious. Unfortunately the pie was way too overbaked.
j. U.
Always a pleasure coming here. The staff are super friendly and accommodating!!
Service with a smile. They always try and make their best to let you settle. Great pub with incredible history. Serves really good ales different from other tied houses. Service is much better than the Salt Quay pub.
L. M.
Absolutely amazing pub dinner. Really gorgeous vibe to this place, exactly what you'd imagine a pub to be and with amazing views over the Thames. The staff were so so friendly and attentive with their service. The food was outstanding and really good value. I had the wild mushrooms on toast to start, which I cannot describe in words alone. So so so good. Epic slow roasted pork shoulder for main. And one of the nicest sticky toffee puddings I've had for dessert. Really lovely and treacly. We also shared a cheeseboard. Such lovely cheeses and crackers with a delicious chutney.
Would definitely recommend to anyone!

The Mayflower was built on the place from where the Pilgrim Fathers sailed to found America. Today, its a wonderful old survival with a terrace bar overlooking the River. There's a restaurant upstairs with all kinds of quirky pictures and nick knacks, the kind of stuff that you might have inherited from Uncle Bill, but they kept theirs and put it on display. If you like old pubs, the bar downstairs is lit by candles in the winter and it's a lovely walk (two miles) back to London Bridge with all the lights on the river. Food is nice and good value. Staff are wonderfully efficient and want to help you have a good time.
G. C.
Probably the best pub I have ever been. Food is amazing, above usual pub level. Selection of wine could be a bit better but still way above average London pub. Location is amazing. Strongly recommended
P. C.
Fantastic old pub overlooking the Thames. Good selection of beers and wine served by friendly staff in a warm and cosy atmosphere. The terraced beer garden hangs over the river and is great fun when the tide is high. Great gastropub food and not to forget the delicious Sunday roast. Highly recommended!
N. P.
Lovely pub on the river. Nice little beer garden but, as i can see they made some additions to the garden during lockdown i guess (they have covered a portion of it) its a pity they did not spend a bit of time refreshing the wood. A little sanding and revarnishing would have gone a long way to improving it.
Meat Platter was nice but considering the amount of meat and hummus on the board, no where near enough bread.
Would still return.

An absolute gem of a pub! After years of drinking here I now find out that it was one of my dad's favourites when he was in London and I see why. The mussels are excellent and the pint is always fresh. There is nothing better than sitting over the water, with a nice breeze and a bit of sun on a Friday afternoon when you should be working.
M. J.
A hidden gem! There is a nice seating area at the back of the pub offering nice views of the river. Or the seating inside has a traditional feel. The food is delicious.
S. P.
Fantastic old pub in a much less visited part of London. If you want to find a true old London pub then this is the one to go to and it's on the river bank. Tube station nearby is Canada Water on the Jubilee line or take the Uber boat (pay using the app or by tapping your bank card as you get on for best price) to Greenlands (Surrey Dock) and 10 minute walk. Great food, beers and wines. Great staff. Highly recommended.
M. S.
Local pub with a riverfront outdoor seating (covered from rain). Tried lamb & chicken Sunday roasts and both were delicious!
K. S.
Fantastic romantic evening in the restaurant was had. Food was exceptional. The mushrooms on toast starter was sublime followed by the swordfish main with their exceptional volcano mayo. We shared two desserts... sticky toffe pudding was like eating air so soft the sponge. And a magnificent cheese board to end the meal. The staff were on point and kind.
C. T.
Still one of the best pubs in London. Now with ABK Helles on tap as well as other excellent craft beers and the usual outstanding selection of cask ales including Timothy Taylor Landlord and their signature Scurvy Ale.
J. S.
Great food, generous portions and a great selection of drinks. Staff are friendly and helpful, we'll definitely be back!
G. G.
We had family birthday meal for 8 + a toddler. Great old pub. Food and service excellent. How the staff cope with the compact size of the pub and doing the stairs frequently is simply amazing. Great job!
F. M.
the dish was delicious, the fish is well seasoned and the crust is crispy and not oily. the dish is huge, quite possible to be divided between two people. friendly and cozy environment
G. B.
A beautiful busy pub along the river Thames. Full of history, cozy, comfortable and the food choices are original and super tasty.
S. B.
We love it here. Very cosy and friendly staff but most importantly very good vegan range on the menu. Roast dinner, sausage and mash and nut roast burger....
U. U.
On our most recent holiday visit we came across this beautiful hidden pub right on the river Thames.
This pub is fairly priced we got a warm welcome from the friendly young man Lee who served us on our time there.
The pub is child friendly as we had little ones with us this was our first outing since covid19 with the family.
We had an amazing time would most definitely recommend the visit here.
The price are reasonable the food was amazing lots to choose from on the menu.
Thank you for having us and we will be back 🖐🏼
J. S. 1.
Nice place to enjoy a drink with friends. Lovely decoration and well located. I was happy because this place was not noisy with high volume music, so actually you can talk without shouting. Good and quick service. Not as many beers options as I was expecting, but good enough to have what you want. The only downside, I guess is in all pubs is the price of beers. In my opinion a little bit expensive. Other than that, I am sure you enjoy this place.
C. B.
Pub with nice decor, really cosy and views to the river. The roast is amazing, I meant to go there and have their roast for a long time and was not left disappointed. It's a bit on the dear side, but at the end of the day it's a gastro pub. Roast was £16.95, dessert £7, pint of neckoil £7. The sticky toffee pudding is one of the best I've had to date, but the baked cheesecake was a massive disappointment as it wasn't a baked cheesecake as suggested nor tasted any good, left pretty much all of it and still got charged for it even when saying I didn't enjoy it at all, but apart from that 10/10 hence the 5 stars.
J. A.
Fantastic Historic Pub with friendly staff and good views over the Thames
V. O.
I saw this cute little place on a bloggers website. Very hidden away, try to visit before sunset so you can get a chance to see the view. I suspect you can see the water but our table wasn't near a window and we arrived really late so it was dark and we were too exhausted to even attempt to explore around. Fish and chips were as good as I had hoped. A full huge piece of haddock, beautifully breaded served with tartar sauce and mushy peas. Desert was good as well. Beer was tasty but it was warm, not shocking since it is a real English pub. I really enjoyed our dinner. The staff were super friendly.
R.
Beautiful pub with some lovely food. The outside area can get busy but we’ll worth the view.
G. F.
What can I say about this gem of Rotherhithe,a historic place with a great vibe, good beers, nice atmosphere and good food selection. Staff are always polite, chatty and regularly cracking a joke. The management is outstanding, the tall blonde server doesn't let a second go by without smiling. If you find yourself around the area, pay a visit to the old mayflower, you won't be disappointed.
A. P.
Our new favourite Friday evening pub! This pub is tucked away in such a beautiful corner of the Riverside. The service is excellent and if you're lucky you can bag a seat on the patio above the Thames. They also have a good selection of crisps (Monster Munch!).
C. L.
Such a gem! Fish & chips was amazing. The view from their terrace is awesome too!
m. g.
A memorable visit to The Mayflower.
Great historic, decorated old pub. Friendly staff & wide selection of tasty food to choose from.
A. C.
Loved both food and atmosphere. Very friendly service.
H. M.
Amazing place! We heard about the Mayflower on our Thames River cruise and decided to check it out. I'm so glad we did, its places is full of charm and character, the staff are too!! The food was brilliant and the atmosphere to match!
Can't recommended enough!! If you like history, good food and a brilliant vibe. Then definitely worth a visit, highlight of a London trip.
M. M.
Amazing pub with the best terrace!! Very friendly stuff and delicious food!! Recommend pie of the day!
S. B.
Great pub with good food and amazing ambiance, I would definitely recommend it for a dinner with candles or to enjoy their terrace! For food it is not only burgers and pies, and you have vegetarian options; we were sadly a bit late and kitchen was closed for desert, but I will definitely come back 😉
Edited: we returned back to have lunch to the pub a few months later and... I can now confirm deserts are also good. Today we had sunday roast, sausage and mash, cheesecake and crumble. Everything was very good!
G. T.
Lovely little pub sat on the south bank of the Thames tucked away between the old work buildings that over the years have now been converted into residential property. Good selection of tasty food at a reasonable price and great friendly staff. It was a first visit, but won't be my last.
I. N.
Great food, friendly staff, and a great beer garden with views across the river.
R. V.
A nice pub, friendly staff and good food. Had a curried parsnip soup with bread my friend had gluten-free fish and chips and enjoyed it.
O.
Delicious food (including Sunday roast), great value, and a nice view!
C. L.
Really delicious roast (veggie in this case) and a lovely atmosphere. The garden out the back is really nice in the evenlng too.
L. M.
On holiday we stopped for a pint, it was crowded and we spilled out onto the sidewalk. One of the staff came out and mentioned a table just opened up. We grabbed it and had the Sunday roast, fish and chips and the veggie platter (the beet balls were delicious). Both mains were excellent. The staff was so cheerful and efficient. Stop by!
M. L.
A very nice pub in Rotherhithe. Fast and courteous service. Reasonable prices and good quality food. A lot of options on the menu too. Nice atmosphere and interesting decoration, the candles was a nice touch. A nice place to grab a beer with friends or for a date. Recommended if you're in the area.
P. I.
Great local pub serving really nice food! Perfect terrace on the Thames for a relaxing evening when the weather is nice!
G. C. M.
If you are looking for a historical place with great service, great beer in a perfect spot by the Thames. This is the place.
A. H.
Best pub in London. Best Sunday Roast. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff and wonderful location overlooking River Thames. My current number 1 pub and I’ve been to a lot of places. 👍
I. J.
Olde-worlde pub with an entrance off a cobbled road and the back opens onto the river. Looks like it was built in the 1950s in a tudorbethan style and so has that authentic old pub feel! Inside it’s dark and snug - tables with high-backed benches and an ambience that makes you want to say ‘gaaaarrr’ and set sail on the high seas!
Food is very acceptable and reasonably priced. Good range of beers.
There’s a pretty-printed history-of-the-pub brochure available that gives some proper history of the pub and its name.
Really enjoyed my visit and this will be a lovely local pub, plus a destination in the summer for some evening riverside drinks.
r.
Lovely ambience, lovely environment, lovely location, lovely food. HOWEVER, service was sub par, waitress ignored us, and food took 1 hour to arrive, when everyone around us got their food first, despite them arriving significantly later. Despite this though, I would still recommend this pub as the food is great and not THAT expensive (£15 for fish and chips). Pints range from £5 to £7, although most are around £6. Good experience overall!
H. B.
One of the oldest pubs on the river, the Mayflower Pub oozes character and is full of history. The pub downstairs has a decent selection of beers though it could get quite busy at times. The restaurant is located upstairs is cosy in a good way. The food served is good. Would recommend this pub for its history and for its period features.
N. P.
Food is not so good, but the back yard with a view in Thames is amazing.
F. A.
Fantastic Sunday roast, best I've had in the area. Word to the wise maybe order an extra gravy as it's flavourful but in short supply, order any condiments with your main order as I ordered horseradish when the food was delivered that never materialised. I had beef and the other half had chicken, both meats were plentiful, Yorkshire is massive, roast potatoes were lovely and soft inside. Finally the veg was very nice. Reasonably priced for very good quality will revisit I think we went peak time on a Sunday so the staff were extremely busy.
Will be revisiting at a quieter time and trying something other than a Sunday roast.
5/5 in terms of the food and value for money.
H. M.
Fantastic pub absolutely jam packed with history. We had a great time discussing and learning about the 500+ year history with the staff.
On top of this, the drink (especially beer and wine!) selections are awesome, and theirs a food menu that'll cater to anyone and everyone.
A pub that is truly not to be missed out on, and well worth the visit even if it's out of your way.
A. G.
Staggered into this place after a long walk across town and it was a real find! Amazing historic pub that feels like you’ve stepped back about 200 years. Great view across the river and also back towards Tower Bridge in one direction and Canary Wharf in the other. Decent selection of real ales on tap and helpful staff for any recommendations needed. Not a bad sized little terrace out back, with the river flowing beneath your feet! Definitely worth popping into if your anywhere nearby.
C. m.
Very small pub with great food and a good location. The staff were friendly and very prompt and the beer was excellent.
R. B.
Absolutely delightful atmosphere with delicious food and drink on tap. It's the classic historical pub experience turned up to 11. Would for sure go again and have the 28 day steak special.
V. c.
Amazing pub with an outside garden on the river!!
D. H.
Atmospheric, historic pub in Rotherhithe along the Thames River Path. Popular with both locals and tourists, very cosy wooden cavernous interior and covered outdoor deck overlooking the Thames. It’s very cosy in the winter with real fire and candle light. Excellent value and tasty Sunday roasts. Friday offer 2x Fish & Chips for £15. Nice menu with seafood and British pub classics. Craft beers and dog friendly. Only 2 mins from the station. Great place to bring your visitors, family or go on a date. A true gem!
D. B.
Great little boozer with a lot of history. Brilliant terrace on the Thames. A very busy pub so bookings on the terrace are a must. Good pub grub and a wide selection of lagers and real ales.
H. B.
A lovely little old riverside pub with seating area facing the river. Pleasant helpful staff and a freak older world atmosphere
G. M.
If you're in this beautiful part of London (well worth a walk for its historic beauty and general quietness compared to the city) then visiting this pub is must. Like other pubs on the opposite side of the river, it claims to be the oldest on the Thames, and it's a worthy contender.
The pub is stunning inside, cosy, warm and authentic with excellent selection of booze and snacks. There's outdoor seating on the river with spectacular views for when the weather is nice.
We ate at the restaurant upstairs, and this is where it loses a star. The restaurant is lovely, with excellent river views and the food is good, but not spectacular. 2 in our Party were vegan, and the menu seems to list things as Vegan or Vegetarian, with Vegan options on some dishes. When asking staff for the Vegan option of Pie, they suggested the goats cheese pie so we didn't bother mention the obvious issue with that response and just ordered something else - which was tasty, just not spectacular. Same for the meat dishes - good quality, tasty but just falling short of excellent.
Overall I'd come for the pub, and if I were to eat would just stay in the bar area and skip the restaurant as it is great as pub food, less so as a restaurant meal.
K. L.
Not only is it a beautiful pub, it also has great food and excellent service. I can even say it’s my favorite place for a pint in London.
A. L.
A cosy pub overlooking the Thames River. A nice selection of beers, wine and food with a friendly atmosphere. It has a traditional pub interior with a nautical ⚓ vibe. The beer garden has a great view of the river, and seemed very family friendly and relaxed.
V. C.
I loved it!
Loved even the area, the street. Rich is history. One of the oldest pub in London. With even the outside area on the Thames River.
Food was great. Service was friendly, and some of them funny. We went there for a traditional Sunday roast, even if we called to book a table, it was all booked already. They told us to try to come and take a seat, we did. And it wasn't so easy. I recommend to book a table days earlier, it's very crowdy. And the allowed children, which is great, not all the pubs do that in London. And it's even easy to find, good position, great location. Recommended the terrace in a sunny day or summer time.
Ps: the fireplace was the best part of that cold day!
Keep it up guys. You are doing a great job.
A. P.
First time visit, the waiter Magek (I'm sure that's not the correct spelling) was friendly and accommodating. The pub food was delicious, although I'd prefer the calamari to be crisper. We'll be back for sure. 👍🏼
D. F.
An absolutely wonderful pub. Convivial, warm atmosphere along the Thames. Varied selection of beers and ciders. The gammon steak and egg was certainly excellent but I was especially impressed that they also offered a (tasty) vegetarian bangers and mash. My only quibble is that the pub is slightly far from the city center, but that won't stop me from coming back. I sadly didn't get to try the outdoor seating during my visit; next time!
D. H.
Beautiful pub steeped in history. Just a little bit pricey though. Well worth a visit.
R. K.
A wonderful old pub right on the river. Delighted to have found this place.
N. S.
One of my favourite pubs in london. Cosy, friendly and helpful staff with a great wine selection. The Sunday roast is also one of the best I've had in London
S.
A historic place as it is heard. Food and service are really good. Price is bit high. But a must visit place obviously.
O. D.
Memorable pub. Very old building, has back terrace overlooking the river that you can also see through the wooden floor which makes it kinda scary and exciting at the same time. Quite small inside, little room for all visitors. Unfortunately there was flooding in the toilet due to sink leak. Other than that very interesting and atmospheric place.
K. Y.
The history of the Mayflower pub with its ties to the 1600s ship by the same name which set sail for America is reflected by the interior décor of dark mahogany wood and repurposed ship parts which really captures heritage. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff are really friendly. The food was really, really tasty where my steak was served exactly how I ordered. There aren't many places to eat around here so the fact that a pub can do it so well, speaks for itself.
K. Þ.
Bloody good roast with a bloody good view.
Really cracking old skool boozer with Neck Oil on tap and really friendly staff. Somewhere I'd definitely visit again
C. H.
The pub was cosy and looks like full of history. The service was good and fast. The price and portion of the food were good too. However, The taste of the food was just like average pub food. They have couple gluten free option, which was nice too. I did not get to try the beer so cannot comment on that.
M. C.
The history drew me here. Quaint, small as pubs used to be. Staff friendly if ran off their feet. Pub cloistered with all manner of things to charm and intrigue.
First pub I've been in where the back is cleared of people on account of high tide!
Shall return.
M. K.
One the best old pub on bank of river Thames Nice food All kind of drinks Free peanuts and place to sit facing Thames river. Drink in street, get blankets to cover cold, crowds place and on weekend difficult to find seat inside the pub. Beauty is old stairs on left side of pub which goes into River Thames. One of famous places old historical pub in city of London
M. B.
Small olde pub with lots of character and good selection of beers and food, we had the chicken and mushrooms pie and a couple beers. There is an outdoor deck overlooking the river where you can enjoy your meal and wash it down with a Scurvy IPA.
S. C.
Interesting and quaint little pub with connections to The Mayflower ship that took pilgrim fathers over to America. Only pub in uk licenced to sell stamps. Nice food but can get busy so go early or book.
S. T.
Super friendly staff, usually fun crowd and decent pub food. Fish and chips were great and big portions, and beer selection is good too. There aren’t as many bars around the neighborhood compared to other areas in London but recommend this place. There’s also a cool patio in the back of the bar for views of the Thames
J. P.
Nice garden right by the river. Decent food and service and good choice of draught beers if that's what you're after. Looked nice inside the pub too for a future visit.
J. P.
Great pub! Good atmosphere, great vibes next to the river. My favourite for summer no doubts.
Also Guinness is good here, which is not so usual in London!
M. T.
Lovely old pub but the most confusing table booking system I've ever come across. None of the outside tables had any sign on them they were booked and every time I sat down I was told to move as it was booked. I asked a member of staff to explain the booking policy but it made no sense
v. p.
Very nice and cozy old pub with lots of character
s.
A London secret this is one of the best pubs in the UK. Not just for it's great, locally sourced food with great selection of vegetarian and some vegan options but for it's 398 years of history too. It also has a great selection of beers including more than a half dozen local brews.
J. C.
I absolutely love this pub. Hidden behind the Brunel museum in Rotherhithe, it has a tasty Sunday roast and a nice beer selection.
1. N. V. T.
The Mayflower Pub is chock full of history and ambiance. The service team is approachable and happy to share the history of this intimate space. Located in a residential part of London south of the Thames, the Mayflower Pub is was well worth the journey to find.
K. S.
Whenever we go it is packed! Lovely old pub full of history from the area and in keeping with the style. Didn't eat as no tables in pub section but smelt good. The terrance garden has good views and a lovely space.
M. M.
I didn’t take many photos here I was too busy scoffing down the amazing fish and chips! Lovely outdoor area on the Thames too. I would come here again for sure. Only one toilet so get in there while you can! Busy on Sundays.
T. Y.
Live local to the area, but dont go as often as I should. Went midweek on a Tuesday, after work, for wife's birthday. Had a lovely meal there. Staff are nice and friendly. Food is great! Had Fish and Chips, followed by a Cheese board (this Pub has some great artisan English cheeses eg Cornish Yarg, Cornish Blue, and one called Gubbeen). And a Sticky Toffee Pudding. All delicious. Recommend this place- historic place, great Riverside views, nice selection of Beers, ales... great food, nice staff... RECOMMEND!!
M.
One of the best roasts I’ve had in London! Outdoor seating area was a bonus surprise looking out over the water. Cosy and traditional pub vibes inside.
K. V.
Amazing food 😋
Fantastic ambient extremely polite staff.
I.
From the outside you really cant tell how.lovely the inside is. Back garden has a great view of the london city a s Thames river. Nice atmosphere. I would come back for food instead of drinks next time!
C. H.
Lovely spot by the river. friendly staff and great food too.
C. A. (.
Delicious food in a quaint pub! Update: visited again two years later and was equally impressed by the food, the atmosphere, and the staff!
B. M.
Authentic pub with the best history. Comfortable, plenty of selection and great bartender. The Mayflower Scurvy Ale is wonderfully balanced and easy to drink.
J. N.
Pretty cool pub and awesome it’s where the mayflower set sail from. Kinda difficult to find a seat as it’s limited. But really nice pub.
C. C.
Always a good neighbourhood pub to be in! Food is great ( I never fail to get the steak and ale pie) the view fantastic as it overlooks the water. Plenty of beer/cider options and dog-friendly. The staff also made an effort to accommodate our request to be shifted under the heat lamps. Kudos to the staff for being polite and smiling through the tough opening weekend!
S. T.
It was only Tuesday when we visited however inside of pub was filled with people. I had been there for drink before and it was also very crowded.
Our table was on the first floor which is cozy, vintage and I loved the random decos. I had a chicken pie which was just so tasty came on mash potatoes. Fish and chips’s fish was also delicious. Thick batter but not heavy.
I. G.
Fantastic place well preserved old pub, not to many left around.
Great food and of course the drinks are a bit over priced but it seems to be true for most places around London.
Overall quality is great 👌
A. C.
Great pub, food and drink
S. M.
Nice pub by the river, great food and a good atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful.
R.
Amazing little pub South East. If you’re looking for a “proper” British pub, this is the one. The atmosphere is perfect, very quirky, yet traditional and it has a beautiful view of the Thames from the terrace. Would highly recommend the Lamb Roast! Will always revisit.
J. G.
Great selection of local ales. Lots of local history about the pilgrim fathers and Mayflower ship on display. If you walk through to the balcony you'll see the pub is directly on the Thames, with great views back to the Shard. This is the closest pub to the Brunel Museum, which shows his tunnel under the Thames. Anyway, back to the pub - good beers, inserting history, good views, worth visiting.
C. L.
I just love this pub and mini eatery. Get fish and chips like the locals in a historical pub that looks like it belongs in a William Shakespeare play. Absolutely stunning
C. W.
Very busy place, right by the Thames. Rear outdoor area is actually affected by the tides, so when it is "high tide" it is closed. They do have a restaurant upstairs.
K. C.
Grab a steak and ale pie and a pint of one of the cask ales. Enjoy it in one of the oldest pubs in the world and in London. Cant go wrong
T. L.
Did Christmas Lunch here and the food was amazing! Service was great!
I often go on a normal weekend and it's packed because the atmosphere is so nice and good selection of beers.
M. B.
Location, history, and atmosphere, plus a wonderful deck out back for sitting on the river watching the boats go by and breathing in that fresh Thames air. 😄 I had the scallops starter -- 3 large scallops with smoked cauliflower puree, chorizo and crispy pancetta. YUM. My companion had a quinoa, barley, broad bean salad with pea shoots and marinated sun-dried tomato garnish, washing it down with a tall glass of sparkling cider. She loved her meal. We left refreshed and satisfied. I might just have to make another special trip to Rotherhithe just to have a bite to eat at The Mayflower.
D. B.
Probably the best pub I've been to. A real gem along the river Thames. Visited at the start of high tide and than saw waves start hitting the porch. Soon one of the staff had to close that part for safety reasons. Enjoyed having a beer there.
P. I.
What a little Gem. Very friendly, great food and a lovely view of the Thames from the decking...Definitely, be going back soon...
P. S.
A lovely pub with great food, friendly staff and a nice seating area overlooking the river.
N. K.
Great spot X 3: on the deck (fun at high tide when you can hear the water close underneath your feet), inside (full on character) and directly outside the pub (lovely vibe)
G. J.
Lovely pub, great selection of beer with waterfront views.
N. P.
Lovely pub. Quite authentic atmosphere. Has a terrace overlooking the river. Drinks were reasonably priced and food was very delicious. We went for the quiz night which was quite enjoyable (finished tied for second place). Would recommend.
Y. P.
Amazing beers/ales (very much recommend the Blue Moon) and the food is even better.
V. G.
Amazing ambience and lovely food. Really warm and welcoming staff made it a fantastic evening
M. B.
Love that place! Everybody is really nice and the food is great. Plus is not known by many tourists so it's cool. Highly recommended!! 😍
D. H.
Went yesterday afternoon, Friday, and was accommodating and friendly from the start. Had an outside table but then moved us inside so we could eat (rain all day). Lovely food and absolutely great staff in a great pub. Thank you for looking after us
s. z.
Great historic local pub. Excellent friendly service. Good food menu. Balcony with views to the river Thames. Lovely selection of interesting beers and ales. Outdoor and indoor seating and space for large groups. Lovely pub.
j. b.
Super old place, just how I remember it. Nicely run as a food and Beer place. Good views from the terrace at the back. Well worth searching out, if pubs are your passion
a. v. e.
Such a brilliant location especially on a sunny day. You can either sit inside but recommend sitting outside in the tent with the heaters!
S. W.
Lovely pub with nice food and wine, perfect little outdoor space next to the Thames and a lot of history 😊👌🍷
B. B.
Great pub on the river side, with great selection of drinks and food!
W. M.
Lovely old Gastropub near Canary Wharf and by the river. Food amazing and the service top class! Cosy bar area downstairs, restaurant upstairs and outside eating area with outside space. Definitely recommended. 😊
S. C.
Great little traditional pub. Amazing sausage and mash!
L. L.
Very nice pub with great views. Was a bit packed but you expect that on a saturday.
w. d.
Beautiful pub right on the Thames were the pilgrims left in 1630. Gorgeous cider and the biggest Yorkshire puddings I've ever seen! Highly recommended.
B. G.
A wonderful place with atmosphere and a lovely cosy feeling. The food was amazing and the staff were brilliance and helpful X X 😁😍
B. B.
Fabulous olde-world pub that serves good food and wine. My husband and I both chose the mussels for starters and a belly pork for main l, which were both delicious all washed dien with a fine Argentinian Sauvignon Blanc! A character pub with ambience serving great food and wine at a great price. What's not to like?
M. K.
My favourite pub in London and the best fish and chips in the world!
C. B.
Great selection of drinks. Food has consistently been amazing. Some of the best Roast I had in a pub in London. Amazing environment.
P. M.
Cosy, friendly historical pub serving good food and drink, advisable to book a table to avoid disappointment.
g.
Great beer, good food, nice staff, lovely place
T. s.
Such a fantastic atmosphere in this pub.
Wish I could of stayed longer. Food looked and smelt fantastic. Will definitely be returning soon. Thanks again
D. K.
Take the Brunel's (London's engineers) walking tour and don't miss the Mayflower. Two great stories and a terrific, little, historically significant pub, serving delicious food and drink. Visit the church plaque in front regarding the origin of the Mayflower to America.
R. “. W.
Lovely atmosphere..ordered what I was told was just Steak pie, shame it had blue cheese in it tho (wasn't told & had to swap meals with the wife) but other than that food was very nice & service was fantastic..could have been a 5*!
L. P.
Lovely, wonderfull, charming. The cutest pub in London!
And even though we got there half an hour before they were closing, the service was perfect. The view from.the terrace in incredible!!
J. E.
Amazing location and fabolous decor.
By the other hand, we had average Sunday Roasts. One of them was made with pork and its crackling which they "forgot" to put in. We moaned and we got it. Afterwards, we went for sharing a Sticky Toffee Pudding with toffee sauce, which was non-sticky, hardly sauce and a dry sponge. What a pitty we didn't take a photo. After our complaint, they didn't charge the service.
E. D.
One of my gold standard in London.
Perfect location, mad skills cooking and great beers. Not so crowded and welcoming. Perfection.
A. K.
Traditional and delicious food, great service and atmosphere, cozy atmosphere and beautiful area, close to the tube and even closer to the DLR.
S. S.
Lovely people, amazing service. Brilliant food, super tasty. Just took a bit longer than expected for the food to be served, but as soon as we sked the waters was at the table after 2 min. Was so busy but they were taking care of us ✌🏽
K. A.
A brilliant gem of a pub with great views of London and equally good chips.
V. V.
Amazing food, wine lovers can be happy for even better wine.. (for true wine lovers) and service was excellent 🙂 warmly recommended 🙂
A. F.
A charming waterside pub near Rotherhithe.
It’s dimly lit with a fire in one corner, the ideal place for a quiet beer on a weeknight.
It also has an outdoor area which is heated during winter, and would be amazing in summer looking out over the water.
The food is reasonably good, but this pub gets its five stars for its charm!
F. R.
Absolute gem on a sunny day to have a pint in the summer. Can imagine equally that the cosy interior is a pleasure to reside in during a cold winters evening! Service was really great and accommodating - great pub!
V. T.
Lovely authentic pub with a lot of character. Sunday roast is yum.
F. D.
Cosy pub on the side of the Thames. Had a delicious Sunday dinner with the waves lapping up beneath us. Recommend the mussels in white wine and crème fraiche as well as the crème brulée, both excellent.
t. n.
Great food, atmosphere and views from the terrace
G. K.
No wonder people queue for their roast. Fantastic food with great service.
M. C.
We got a very nice river view, the food was amazing, the staff was very friendly. Great pub!
M. H.
Excellent pub and excellent beer. Nice view of The Thames, as this picture shows. Front of pub also shown here.
M. M.
Gorgeous place. More than 200 years old. Fab staff. I love such place. FB: @ MY LONDON (red David Bowie)
F. H.
Location is great, staff is not too friendly at first. The heaters outside will burn your scalp off. And there's no menus on the tables we had to stand up and go find them on the wall, take a photo and come back to our table.
M.
Lovely pub tucked in a little street on the south side of the Thames , walking distance from the Brunel museum. It has a cosy and nice feel. The old ship decor is quite cool. There is an outdoor area with views of the Thames and Wapping. Good beer selection and good food menu. A must see pub.
K. D.
Went for a friend's birthday and the food and service were good but the tables had huge umbrella stands under them but no umbrella so we couldn't get a comfortable position as the stand got in the way. Once it started to rain the lack of umbrella meant we got wet
F. G.
Good quality pub food. Great views of the Thames. Old pub worth visiting
J. W.
One of my favourite pubs in London. Historic, great food, good atmosphere. Worth a trip just to come here on a Sunday with the candlelit dinner
V. G.
Amazing place, tasty food, lovely staff. Guy in yellow-ish shirt was really nice. And the view was stunning. Definitely coming back :)
S. C.
Great fish and chips and mash and bangers. Love the quirkiness of the place and the heated and sheltered back garden. The gem is the view on the river. Lovely staff too.
M. S.
Stunning pub and gorgeous and most lovely staff!!!
S. F.
Brilliant little pub with really great food, it's tiny and lively with lots of fun artwork
C. B.
Awesome place, awesome ambience. We had some beer on the patio before going upstairs for our dinner reservation. The upstairs is lovely and the food was great.
A. B.
A lovely pub with a great quality local atmosphere in the heart of London. It's a perfect piece of old cultural history in a quiet location that will not be mobbed. Amazing place and I will be returning.
A. B.
Great to see you guys back open. Good Covid safety measures and great beer & food, as always.
I. F.
Excellent food and service, and a special vibe, complete with beautiful Thames views. Totally reccomend it.
r. m.
Awesome beer. Excellent cheese, with a great big selection. One of the oldest views of the Thames. The food was delicious too. It's a nice walk down from tower bridge.
B. B.
The oldest pub on the Thames. I get inside area appears to have lots of original elements, very old. Looks great. The outside just a more spacious area. Necessary. Oh... and there's the Thames river right in front of you.
A. J.
Staff were all wonderful and in good spirits despite it being so busy! Food was tasty too. Special mention to Nelly, who I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with and was an absolute delight! I will definitely be returning!
A. K.
A little gem of a find. Lovely food and service right by the rivers edge. Gets busy so book or arrive early.
R. O.
Very old boozer in prime spot on the Thames in Old Rotherhithe, surrounded by authentic dock buildings and wharehouses, nicely converted into homes and offices.
The food is great but book well in advance for Sunday lunch and aim for the upstairs restaurant fir stunning panoramic views of the Thames and Old Wapping. Nearest station is Rotherhithe overground and great for a Thames pub crawl ( see the Angel, the Town of Ramsgate and the Prospect of Whitby)
J. W.
One of the best secret spot on The River!
Booking required online as it's a small place
- Terrace out on the river and seating available on the entrance
- Very friendly staff
- Delicious food
- Varieties of pub food available
- Prices are on the higher end

Lovely old English pub. Food was great, staff very friendly and the terrace is just by the river. I just hope I had found this place in summer!
R. J.
Now listen up my US chums... You tell me about your 'historic' local bar and I'll raise you this place. Good beer and good food, that is at the pricier end for what it is in the area, but still a great place to visit, so do!
S. P.
Beautiful pub with fantastic food, a good selection of beer and a warm atmosphere!
C. L.
Had a lovely time there. Good beer, decent grub, ambience absolutely immense. Definitely worth a visit.
Have I mentioned the views? OMG.
A. M. W.
Really nice pub by the river.
There is a sitting area outside by the river too
P. C.
Some of the best Sunday roast in town. The staff are genuinely hardworking and friendly!
D. H.
This is a historical place. I went to the Angel and they were very negative about this place, they said the mayflower wasn't historical but it really is. The mayflower give you a leaflet proving how historical they are. 5 stars. Obviously not sure if leaflet is a lie but I trust printed paper more than the word of an insane man. Sometimes I don't know what to believe but I believe that the ale lines are cleaned here on a regular basis and that, for me, is enough for me to return. Cya!
R.
Nice pub with Thames river view from back terrace, tasty beer, tasty snacks, polite staff.
D. S.
My favourite old London pub, with an incredible history.
Walking east from Tower Bridge is a fabulous way to experience this part of London along the river Thames. The pub is nestled amongst the old wharfs, now homes and opposite the church in which the captain of the Mayflower is buried.
The pub itself is a beautiful small cosy pub (with a fire) equally good in the summer and the winter. The rear deck stretches out over the river, so watch out during the very high tides!
The pub has a great selection of drinks including Scurvy Ale, and a very good menu including the usual pub favourites (menu on their website). There is more dining seating above the main bar too.
Friendly service in a wonderful atmosphere
Unsurprisingly with their US connections they also do a thanksgiving menu at the end of November.
The story goes the Mayflower ship was left on the river bank after its historic journey and that part of the pub are main from the timber.
If you don’t fancy the walk the pub is right next to Rotherhithe Station. It’s also close the Southwark Park too.
D. R.
Always like this pub when we visit, great location tucked away in Rotherhithe. Not sure it is managed so well these days though. Food is not as good as it used to be and a bit pricey on the drinks front.
J. M.
Great selection of beer and the best pie I've had in ages.
P. M.
Lovely old boozer on the river.
Great food.
R. D.
Good pub with outdoor seating facing Thames. They serve delicious food and good variety of drinks.
G. J.
Lovely old pub but I thought the staff were a bit short with people.
A. P.
Wonderful vibes and gorgeous roof side patio. Great service, quick food and the epic 1600s decor is pretty cool
B. C. C.
Didn't order food. But did order a pint of ale. It was cool to sit at a table in a seat where possibly the Mayflower pilgrims had sat before. The pub was there by the docks in 1620 just as it is today, although there are no docks now.
A. B.
Lovely place. Nice food. Good drinks and superb location. Service was very friendly, but a little bit slow.
M. C.
Absolutely love going here when in London. Food is always good and service is very good. Need to book ahead of time but well worth the trip. Small dining room but nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
M. T.
Love it. Beautiful pub with excellent food.
D. G.
Very nice and climatic place, and also serves perfect food.
You have to book a table in advance other hand it's almost impossible to find an empty table.
J. M.
Great atmosphere and bags of character. Trad beer jugs filled with tasty IPA...
M. S.
Traditional Cosy London River Boozer... Great Roasts
S. G.
Wonderful historic pub serving great ales and classic pub food
A. P.
Great pub with lovely surroundings and very kind and helpful staff. Food is delicious and they have a great selection of drinks. Definitely recommend.
M. G.
Great place! Loved the beer
M. K.
Best atmosphere you can ask for in a pub. Really traditional and original. Amazing patio over the Thames makes it an excellent choice for sunny (and sometimes not) days. You have to try the pies.
J. J.
Loved the Sunday roast! It is truly delicious
The beer is pretty good too
L. J.
Nice pub on the riverside. Good beer and good food.
P. C.
Great place, right on the river, decent beer and food.
S. L.
Hadn't planned to visit but very glad we did. Great food and wine in a traditional beautiful setting. Highly recommended 🙂
L. S.
Lovely atmosphere-- on the terrace in the summer or by the fireplace in the winter. The food is always on point with attention towards seasonal specials. Lots of seafood and healthy options as well, aside from the delightful pies, burgers, bangers and mash, etc. The staff is always welcoming and also efficient in getting you the best plate of food and perfect pint or glass every time.
L. L.
Really genuine pub experience, with decent food + ok selection of beers. Added bonus (at least for us Scandinavians) is that they serve Linie aquavit!
A. M.
I checked it out to see if I would be coming back since I'm moving around there soon. It seems I will definitely become a regular. What mighty interiors and outdoor area! The street it's on is very mighty too. Beers were mighty and especially the blonde dude serving was mighty. It's just all round mighty.
G. B.
Such a neat spot! Great for a drink on the river. Didn’t try the food but looked incredible
J. C.
Always a sure thing. It's my favorite pub in London with a relax atmosphere and great food
G. P.
OMG...is the beef Wellington on the specials?” Great pub! The spot where the original Mayflower left for the new world
E.
Love this place! So authentic and traditional! Still get the real pub atmosphere here and customer service goes along with it really well. Sunday roast looked fantastic even though I didn’t have a chance to have it myself.. yet! I came during the week and loved the food.. speed of service was great! Laid back staff and good selection of cask ales too! I love the terrace on the river.. it’s a magic place to bring someone out of the big crows and make a good impression! Recommended!
V. S.
The interesting History, the Interior and the Decking over the River make this a unique Pub to visit . Great food and a good selection of drinks make this pub worth a visit .
G. C.
It's a drop dead gorgeous pub. Really beautiful. Makes you feel like a pirate in the best possible way
A. H.
Great little pub backing onto the Thames. Lovely little areas to sit inside and a nice deck outside and seats outside on the approach to the entrance door. Friendly staff and in a pretty cobbled street. Worth a visit
A. W.
The decor is lovely, the food is great and the waitress is a sweetheart
d. c.
You can imagine the pilgrims sitting here for a pint before they set off for the new world... great setting for a pint after long walk...
T. P.
Top riverside pub, excellent choice of ales. All well kept. Bar staff doing well on a busy Saturday afternoon.
F. C.
This place is amazing. It's in a beautiful location with a beautiful view if you're sitting outside on the terrace right in front of the Thames. The staff is super friendly. The place inside is very cosy and characteristic full of nice decorations. It's ideal for staying in and warm during winter, and on summer days to be outside. The food is delicious, and it's worth the slightly higher price.
M. S.
Cosy traditional style pub right on the river. Was very busy when we went for Sunday lunch (reservation essential I think). Food was decent pub grub and there was a good selection of well cared for beers. If you manage to get a seat by the window you’ll have a view out over the Thames. We were able to get street parking just around the corner but other than that there isn’t many places to park. Train station isn’t too far away.
J. H.
Wonderful place, good food and nice drinks. Their original ale is awesome.
P. J.
The Mayflower remains a functional piece of history in Rotherhithe, London. Serving tradtional pub fare it is surrounded by cobbled streets and features a deck set over the water where you can spot the original 1620 mooring of the Pilgrim ship The Mayflower before it's voyage to Plymouth Massachusetts in the United States.
F. L.
Great food at reasonable prices. Beer selection could be larger. Nice view over the river.
B. H.
A great little pub packed with age and character. The walls are covered in nautical themed pictures and trinkets and has lovely dark wood beams throughout. A great selection of ales and food at a very reasonable price. There's outside seating at the front and back. The back is on a large deck with a view of the river. There's also upstairs seating for dining. A hidden gem and wonderful local.
S. N.
Great wee pub on the river. Great selection of drinks and food, and the staff are super friendly
L. B.
Delicious food, nice quaint old pub
F. V.
Probably the best pub in the area.
I always take my friends visiting London there. Definitely worth trying the Sunday roast!
J. H.
Only made a brief visit to meet a friend but the staff were very friendly. It's small but lively and even on a cold Tuesday early evening in February, it was very busy. There's a heated rear gazebo with a platform directly overlooking the Thames, though there are smokers there. I'm told the food is good, though I didn't have time to sample any.
j. b.
Excellent, well worth finding, good beer and food. Not been there for years so good to find it thriving
N. S.
Best pub in the area, friendliest staff, most beautiful river terrace beer garden.. The food? To die for 👌
If in Rotherhithe on Sunday, do not miss out on the mayflowers roast.. Really do not miss out!
L.
Quaint, historic pub on the Thames. The beer selection and quality is good and consistent. It's not a massive pub and can get busy, but for me, it doesn't detract from its quintessential London Thames pub feel. It adds to the character. It has a large balcony overhanging the river and it's interesting to watch river traffic and get a good view of Tower Bridge.
S. A.
The service was great, good quality food although the falafel was not my favourite thing at all...
P. Ł.
The food was a solid 4 stars, the sausages were very nice with the gravy. I am giving it 5 stars since I think going there is about the experience. The interior is quaint and the building was not changed much throughout the centuries. There were loud drunk British people who ironically added to the atmosphere. You should go there just for the experience, the food is a decent bonus.
W. B.
Great location, lovely food, terrible service. Rude staff.
S. H.
Great vegan sausage and mash, good spa beer and lovely deck.
R. B.
An absolutely delightful pub. Have visited the restaurant twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times.
Food is beautifully cooked with a wide variety on the menu. Sunday roasts are also good. Great atmosphere and aesthetics with superb views over the river.
Booking early is a must as the tables with a river view to early and the restaurant is small. Plenty of seating outside downstairs although I have never used it.
C. P.
Good Ale and Food selection served up by an enthusiastic and attentive team.
E. D. N.
Very warm and cozy. Great food and beers. I'd like to return for Sunday roast!!!
A. R.
The most beautiful and characteristic pub I discovered in London. A true hidden gem. The terrace on the river is something amazing.
M. E.
This cosy, tiny pub serves delicious food and variety of beers. Friendly staff makes you feel at home. the view of Themes from the beer garden is quite nice. I have been there several times and I always left the pub with a grin on my face.
A.
Amazing pub. Went here for a Sunday Roast. Had a table upstairs on the top floor, overlooking the river. Sunday Roast was top notch and staff were very friendly and attentive. I have a feeling I’m going to be back!
J. N.
Great pint of beer here at the end of our Thames walk
s. h.
Everythime we come down to see friends we make a trip to the mayflower..Its fantastic..Also it the only place my 8 year old like to eat mussels..
L. W.
Lovely pub with delicious food and nice vibe. If you can, get there early for a table out back! Leah
J. M.
Excellent place, I definitively recommend it! Food was great and generous portions, good variety of beers.
D. W.
Very cool historic English Pub. The Pilgrims left from here to go to America.
A. T.
One of the best pubs I’ve ever been to. Staff absolutely wonderful and excellent seating
P. H.
Fantastic historic pub! It's up there with one of my favourites I've ever been too!
It's got great features throughout, with a variety of beers and other drinks available.
The outside seating is great and overlooks the River Thames 🤘
I fully recommend this place!
J. M.
A must- visit historic pub especially in this Mayflower 400th anniversary year. Try the Mulled Cider and Scurvy Ale
J. C.
Good food and beer. Small inside but welcoming. Good view of the river.
P. F.
Lovely little pub in Rotherhithe v near the Brunel Museum and on the river. We only popped in for a drink but managed to get a table outside overlooking the river. Service was quick, Covid rules mean you are currently served at your table not the bar. The food looked v good too and it's on the Thames path route so handy for walkers and cyclists. V cosy inside too. Lovely spot.
T. S.
The atmosphere is so full of history that you can taste it in the air. Everyone from the staff to the customers themselves made my visits the wonderful experience that they were. The food was awesome, the drink was plentiful and varied, and it was actually really easy to get to. If you're in London on a Sunday, get there for Sunday roast. It's worth the trip.
R. A. (.
Great ambiance and a great Sunday roast
L. N.
Lovely piece of history, with good views of the Thames and delicious food.
P. S.
Wonderful hidden gem next to the Thames. It's a bit small so try to get a reservation if you are coming with a bigger group of people. The food platters are pretty good and they have a decent selection of beers.
R. W.
I'm fortunate to live within a 15 minute walk of this wonderful old pub. It's a tourist trap on the Riverside Path. You may not always get a table, or need to share one, even on weekday afternoons but it's my favourite local. There's a large outside platform with river views at the back and 6 well kept real ales, mainly from local microbreweries such as Bexley, Kent, ELB, Bedlam etc. all priced @ £4.40 A pint.
E. G.
Typical English pub. I went there twice and I love it every time more. On Tuesday there is a quiz game, and the atmosphere is really friendly and relaxed. I have never tried the food but beers and cider are really good. You also have some seats outside where you can enjoy a wonderful view directly on the Thames River. Oh yes of course. In the past the Mayflower boat started its trip from this point, so it's historically important
C. G.
Lovely staff beautiful views and good food.
J. R.
Great location. Great views. Very busy on sundays
K. S.
A brilliant delicious Sunday roast with excellent efficient service. Xx
D. W.
Amazing little pub on Southbank of Thames
E. A.
A quirky, old and charming pub with an outdoor river terrace. You sit on the terrace and see the waves splashing right underneath you during the high tide! Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Will be back!
K. N.
I love this old pub, it is so cool inside and has some seats outside which is nice on a sunny day. They have a good selection if beer and really nice food, especially fish and chips. The staff is friendly and attentive. Great place to go with friends, just make sure to arrive earlier as it gets super busy.
A. J.
Still one of the most authentic pubs in London. Great, quality food; service is a bit of a hit & miss - I think they're just overrun! Great mix of locals and travellers from across the globe. Parking might be a problem at times. Always happy when we leave!
F.
Love this Sunday roast! The place is magic although the terrace is usually very easy on weekends.
J. B.
Great Sunday roast and staff very friendly
P. H.
Very traditional-feeling pub in amazingly beautiful location. Beer garden by the river is just great! Due to fullness of the place on a Saturday afternoon, I wasn't able to try the food menu in the upstairs room. Will book a table and try that next time, and maybe my review will hop up to 5 stars ;)
O. W.
Pub has excellent decor. The dec out back on the River Thames is a great spot to hang. Good selection of beers and snacks if you're just a bit hungry. The service was great at the bar, and the beer is cold. A great place to stop at the end of a long day.
M. W.
Book in advance for the bestest hugest Roast dinners in the weekend in an historic 300 year old pub !
A. R.
Wow! We needed somewhere to grab a quick meal before heading off to a gig on a Saturday night. Called ahead to check if we could get a table and they managed to squeeze us in last minute which was very fortunate. The upstairs dining area is so fantastic - proper pub vibes with lots of great old knick-knacks. Service was so friendly, great selection of beers and menu goes beyond the normal pub grub (good vege/pesci options). I had one of the best pies I've ever had and my partner had an outstanding veggie burger. We left feeling very impressed! Will definitely be back in the summer to check out the view and beer garden! Thankyou! :)

Amazing service, great food, great location and great prices. We have found our new neighborhood pub.
t. a.
Loved this Pub. Atmosphere was really nice and food was very yummy. Would definitely go there again. I had Mussels in White Wine Sauce and Chocolate Cheesecake with Vanilla Ice Cream covered in Chocolate Sauce. Enjoyed every bit of my meal. Other food ordered was Duck Pate, Olives, Ribeye Steak, Chips, Salad, Fish and Chips. Also Apple Crumble and Custard. Everyone was very happy with their meals.
M. I.
Fast and kind service, prefect location over the river, delicious and massive portion of mules. Will definitely go back again
E. R.
Such a lovely little pub! Have had Sunday lunch here a couple of times now, and it's always good. Love the old world feel and how cosy it is upstairs
S. T.
Lovely little pub on the Thames. The food here is absolutely delicious and they've got a good selection of booze.
It is very small though and does get very busy!! Upstairs has a restaurant so I would book there if you want to eat.
There is standing space at the front, and a lovely jetty at the back of the pub. There's a gazebo out back to protect you from the rain, and they used to provide you with blankets and hot water bottles in the colder months, but not sure if they do that still.
A. C.
This truly has got to be one of the best pubs in London. Great quality beer (Real Ale), top quality food that never disappoints and clearly hand picked staff who are keen to serve efficiently and always happy to help. A must visit. Enjoy.
N. w.
Quickly pub on the Thames, good food and atmosphere
A. M.
How could you not love this place it's got all the ingredients for what makes the pub so uniquely an institution. Staff were incredibly busy but managed the surge of customers with ease navigating around people and quirky furnishings. It's one of the best on the river and worth a trip.
p. p.
The atmosphere and ambience were great. The service was friendly and efficient. The fish and chips did not disappoint. Even the thunderstorm and deluge of rain from under the tarpaulin cover on the riverside deck, made it all the more memorable. Lift anchor, set sail and make the voyage here pilgrims.

Great Pub, good range of beers and great friendly staff. I drank and enjoy ef the Oyster Stout. I didn't eat, but the meals that passed me from the kitchen looked very well presented and good portions. Mussels, burgers and Fish & Chips seemed popular.
M.
I have been a few times in this place and everything was perfect!!! Friendly, professional with a big smile service, steak cooked perfectly and mussels with wine sauce the best I had . One of my favourite places in London
A. M.
Great views, cool crowd . Good food and a very nice vibe - Sit by the river :)
s. h.
This pub is great. Lovely food, great beer, and a really big outdoor seating area overlooking the river and dotted with heat lamps. A great place to meet friends or to take a date. Just make sure to arrive on the early side, otherwise you might not be able to get a seat out the back.
F. H.
Didn’t even knew this pub exists and I have been near the area for years. Wonderful setting and location just by the river tucked away inside the village. Full of characters inside and out. Really great buzzing atmosphere perfect for a Sunday roast. A good selection of craft beers 🍺 we were able to get a seating for 4 given the guests coming in and out. The beef and lamp roasts were also very good. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Staff were very friendly. They offered sweet potato fries which was nice. A great place for Sunday Roast or drinks for that matter. The Mayflower definitely gets on my list of pub lunches.
N. M.
Lovely pub with a river terrace. Friendly staff, quality beer and delicious food!
J.
V busy on a warm Saturday afternoon, but that's not surprising given how nice this place is. Decent selection of beer. Nice staff. Good bit of outside space. Hard to better if you get a spot with a river view.
R. P.
Great beers & great atmosphere in a beautiful old pub! Feels like the quintessential British experience- squeezing past a crowded bar to grab a table overlooking the Thames. Plenty of vegetarian food options. Friendly service despite being often very busy!
A. H.
We went to the Mayflower pub on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed sitting in the sun on the terrace above the Thames. We were lucky to get a seat as it was very busy. It was lovely hearing the noise of the water in the background. Our drinks (aperol spritz) were good, I can't comment on the food as we did not have any. Would definitely come back if I am in the area in the future.
W. K.
The place was busy, but the tables outside have quick turnover as many patrons are only in for a drink or snack. We got a table overlooking the river and wharfs, a very quaint and historical feeling for an American. The beers were good, cider was good, bar staff friendly, and quite tasty food. Inside atmosphere is cozy. Overall fabulous pub experience.
S. C.
Too often, London pubs over-promise, over-charge and under-deliver. This pub was great. Fairly priced, proper food and great service. Would recommend.
R. D.
Great local pub in the Rotherhithe area. Typical pub grub, good beer selection and great little garden area overlooking the Thames. Pub with great historic value in the London area.
I. K.
Went with the team from work for Christmas lunch. Staff were attentive, drinks were good with a good variety available, food was great too, i had the haddock followed by the turkey. We weren't rushed, possibly because it was Friday 13th and there were fewer bookings, but an enjoyable meal.
M. Z.
The place has so much personality! I think is quite popular because it was full! 3 floors with unique decoration, view to the river. The staff was friendly and swift. I can’t tell much about the food, because I went there to meet some friends but I’m not quite fan of Sunday roast but everyone seemed to enjoy their meals!
I’d defo recommend anyone to visit this place!
K.
I don't know what gets 5 stars from me if not this place really, but something stops me from giving 5. Maybe the bathroom?? The food is solid and consistent, the beer options are varied for any palate and service is friendly and helpful. Views on the river if you get a good spot but the entire place has kitsch to look at the whole time. Definitely a great stop if nearby. Recommend the burger and fish/chips.
J. N.
Great food ! Can't wait to go back
a. g.
Beautiful pub and a hidden gem! My husband and I visit every time we're in the UK. Great food and a great selection of beverages of all kinds :) service is great too! See you again soon
A. B.
Character and history plus a terrace overlooking the river.
M. S.
One of London's ultimate pubs. Food, drink and staff all amazing.
I. K.
Great little pub in terms of atmosphere, alcohol choices and food quality.
Doubt we'll return though as the staff refused to be even a little accomodating for one of us who couldn't have dairy. Would have been of minimal business expense in return for two happy customers.
T. D.
The food here was delicious and the service was also very good. The menu is special so most of the food you can order is a bit different then you know it, in a good way! I had aubergine and mushroom gratin. A vegan meal wich was just perfect. !
L. F.
Great pub with an interesting history. Food and drink selection here is wonderful. It's always full in here. Practically bursting with people on the weekends. The atmosphere is the best thing about this pub and the fact that it's on the river, although you can get a better view from the captain kid across the other side.
C. G.
This is the best Pub in Bermondsey. Incredible location on the riverbank. Really good food. I can't wait until it reopens.
R. M.
Really beautiful historic pub, there aren't many pubs this old left in London. The surroundings are also beautiful and worth a look around. However it does get very busy at weekends so booking is highly recommended. Also it can be very squashed inside as you'd expect from an old pub so not really suitable for young children/push chairs.
D. N.
Nice pub. Great views.
J. S.
What a fantastic place, loved the jetty that you could sit out on despite the rain and the cold. We just went in for a beer and some crisps and could easily find ourselves a seat, there were 7 of us and we fitted in fine. Great selection of beer and bar snacks. It was a lovely experience and a welcomed pit stop after our long walk in the morning.
R. B.
I love this place! The view from outside was my favorite part from visiting here. Great vibes and the staff were very welcoming to us. Great food and drink selection!
S. H.
Great little Thameside pub with garden to the rear with Thameside views
C. P.
I am a regular at the Mayflower living directly across the river from it. The food is always good, often excellent. Service is friendly, efficient and relaxed. It is a restaurant I always enjoy taking friends and visitors to. As an expatriate American it has a special resonance for me and for my visiting American friends. And it is reliable, a real virtue these days. The menu doesnt change as much as I might like but it always has daily specials. And it still remains a popular and good local pub. A great place.
T. H.
Proper old pub. Great beer selection, very well kept. Top notch bar staff and good looking food. HOWEVER we couldn't be served in the pub after 7 30 pm because we had under 18s with us - New House Rules. 🤔
N. R.
Been here a few times, I'd say all in all it's better for drinks than food. Great view from the garden across the Thames, though you'll have to get there in good time to get one of those spots. The food was okay - nothing spectacular, slightly soggy and overdressed salad which brings the rating down to 3. However, staff are very friendly and it's a beautiful pub.
M. T.
Great food and service! Great choices of Ale and Lager. 'Scurvy' is a great Ale and 'Thames' is a great lager.
S. Z.
Great place with lots of history, river view and delicious food and beer
J. B.
Best pub in London. Atmospheric, great history, and right on the river. A hidden gem!
N. F.
Historic pub with a friendly crowd.
F. L.
Amazing traditional pub on the bank of the Thames. Walking into this pub is like walking back in time; you're instantly transported to medieval time, and you could imagine the pub full of sailors, pirates, crooks and bandits. It's quaint and cosy, it has a lovely riverside beer garden, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. One of the best pubs in London, of that I'm sure.
A. B.
Didn’t expect much, but the burger was delicious! Exceeded expectations
E. T.
Lovely village-style pub in Rotherhithe. Great views of the river in the outside area and in the dining room upstairs. Great quality menu full of premium pub classics such as roasts, pies and burgers. Staff are quirky and full of personality which makes it a great experience, inside is very cosy in the evening. Great pub if you fancy escaping central London for a bit!
Roasts would be amazing if I was allowed to have any gravy!
N.
Great all around! I’ve been to this pub on many occasions and they never fail to deliver. Pub Quiz once a week, great Sunday Roast (get there early because it’s in high demand and their fresh meat runs out!), great menu and drink every other night of the week.
Cannot recommend enough!
E. T.
In principle great. However when we visited they were very short on staff (in fact hiring signs were all over the walls) and food would have taken over 1h to get. We left. Nice setting though, and spacious terrace with great river views
A. A.
Debatably one of the best pubs in London. The history and charm around this pub are enchanting. The food is delicious and the value is great. Staff are always friendly and know locals which is rare in London. Only down side is it's size of the place - as it is quite small and very popular, bookings are a must!
E. K.
Great Sunday roast dinner. Only problem was my bench was so high compared to the table - I like the quirky character though, don’t change it! The roast beef was beautiful, lots of gravy and a fantastic Yorkshire pud. And that’s coming from a northern lass!
m. s.
Lovely historic riverside pub that's lovely in summer, and equally lovely and cozy in winter. Be warned though, it's tiny, and it gets busy, especially if you want to sit on the river terrace.
Haven't eaten here in a while, but the food was always a notch or two above standard pub grub.
J. B.
One of London's best riverside pubs. Beautiful and old fashioned with a seating area over the Thames (watch out for the waves). Good beer selection and good food served (at a reasonable price) both in the pub, outside and upstairs in their dining room. Very nice staff too. Word of caution - it gets busy and you may struggle for a seat...
R. E.
This is probably the best pub I've been to in London, without thinking too hard about it. The decor is great, with a historical nautical theme. The drinks are good, though I can't comment on the value. It has a cool deck literally over the lapping banks of the Thames, which provides a great spot to relax in and while away the afternoon.
For an authentic pub experience (as opposed to the standard franchise pubs), I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.
I. R.
Love this place. Vibe is super cosy and view from the terrace unique and remarkable. Love they offe Punk IPA - my absolute fav - but also a quite nice range of local beers. Never tried food but Sunday roast looked absolutely yummy.
D. T. G.
One of my favorite spots in the UK
T. E.
A stunning riverside pub that should really be a victim of its own success yet is still a great place to visit. The ground floor bar is an atmospheric warren of nooks and crannies. Beers are first class - look out for Dark Star's Hop Head. The upstairs restaurant is little more formal - has the feel of a old captain's cabin - with great views across the river. However, it's the (reasonably priced) food you come for. Sunday lunch had the superlatives flying around. Definitely one for a repeated visit.
M. D.
A gem in Rotherhithe. Good pub food, eaten with the Thames lapping under your feet.
D. J.
Great place, nice beer and good food in a historic atmosphere
P.
Nice old pub but can get busy. Lots of tourists and Millennials mixed with a few old locals. Food has been good when I have eaten there and plenty of it. Like most pubs in London 'on the map' drinks can be expensive.
L. P.
They've expanded their vegan menu, and it's reasonable. It could do with improving however everything else about this pub is perfect so gotta give it 5 stars.
C. H.
Popped in on marathon day. Quaint little place with friendly staff and a decent pint. Worth a visit.
K. N. A. A. K. O.
Best place for a lunch or dinner on a sunny day!
A wooden balcony above the River Thames!
C. H.
Best pub in the area by quite a long way. On a summer evening or mid-winter lunch this place is a great hideaway. The menu is good, and in particular the cheese board is great value. I always enjoy coming here, but it is popular and there fore isn't always easy to get a seat. Highly recommended.
P. H.
Old, historical pub. Love it.
D. P.
It’s wise to book ahead if you want to eat at this historic pub just a short walk from Rotherhithe Overground Station. Even for a quick pint you’ll find it rammed on a weekend. But it’s got a lot going for it - it’s crammed to the brim with ye olde worlde paraphernalia and has good views across the Thames.
J. D.
Lovely local pub. Great ales and beers, superb food.
O. I.
My favourite pub in London. This is an old traditional pub with a bit of a gothic vibe. The place has a terrace which is even open in winter, so there's nothing cozier than having a warm pie by the warmers in winter. My favourite thing to have is the French style mussels!
M. D.
One of my favourite pubs in London. Food is mediocre though. Love to visit the Mayflower on a Sunday afternoon. The terrace is one of the best in London, right on the river! The atmosphere is wonderful.
D. Q.
Excellent boozer with outdoor terrace overlooking the water. Good beer selection and lovely location. Staff could be friendlier but hey, this is London after all!
D. N.
Very cosy little pub with good food, can get quite busy and difficult to find a seat but lovely views of the Thames from the rear of the pub. Tucked away a few minutes from Rotherhithe Station it's a nice local alternative for a couple of drinks out.
D. W.
Great pub with great food and excellent customer service. The Tuesday night pub quiz is consistently enjoyable as well.
T. M.
Great old riverside historical pub. River views and great ales.
J. S.
Lovely old pub with lots of character. Historic ties to the Mayflower ship which took the first pilgrims to America. Great food and very hard-working, friendly and professional staff.
D. B.
This quaint little pub was a perfect place for an early afternoon lunch on a grey Sunday. Lively atmosphere, lots of people but very quick service anyway. We liked our soup and our pie. Decent selection of beers as well.
M. L.
Wonderful atmosphere in a real Pub with an engulfing sense of history. The three course dinner was one of the best I have ever had - and I am 64 so I've had a few! - oh, and I am surrounded by brilliant cooks - three of whom were with me that night and agreed wholeheartedly. The staff were so friendly, efficient and welcoming. Felt really at home in the old and much loved restaurant upstairs. Nothing was too much trouble for the hard working team. We shall be back and I can't wait!!! Thank you all - oh, and the portions are very generous.
J. C.
A lovely pub and delicious food
M. P.
They do a lovely Sunday lunch, but space is hard to come by.
c. g.
The best pub I have been to in London. Hospitality wonderful, food delicious, locals friendly. Ambience is great they even have a basket of blankets to warm if you go out on the Thames. Historical Landmark!
K. S.
OMG!!! They selling ABK Hell beer. Just love it. Staff was very friendly as well. Thanks
M. E.
Great traditional pub right by the Thames. Traditional pub food done exceptionally well, especially the pies. Good selection of perfectly cooked vegetables too. Great views from the tables on the deck.
J. F.
We have eaten here several times both in the restaurant area upstairs and the outdoor area which overlooks the Thames. Lovely pub with good atmosphere and reasonably priced pub food. It gets very busy especially at weekends so its best to book a table.
I. C.
Lovely pub! Will be returning and recommending for sure!
c. l.
Been here a few times, real gem of a place, nicely tucked away. The menu is always interesting, food is good, and staff are friendly and attentive. Keep up the good work
M. G.
Pretty cool pub with an amazing beer garden and a really traditional vibe. Also has quite a history as the name would imply. It's usually a bit too busy though so be armed with alternatives. Haven't tried the food yet, but definitely otherwise recommended.
N. K.
Nice traditional riverside pub tucked away off the beaten track, but is very popular with locals so can get very busy. To add capacity there is a novel decked area to the rear directly over the Thames which has a heated tent with additional seating during the winter months. Apparently the food's good but I have yet to eat here myself.
M. K.
I love this place. Whenever I am around it is my place to be. Good selection of food and beers. Friendly staff and relay cool crowd. If you lucky enough you can get a seat on a terrace which is facing river. It’s cozy and quirky. There are always people happy to talk to you. I am not a person who talks to a stranger, but there is so easy.
S. D.
Fun place on the thames... self serve ...friendly staff..good solid English pub food and beverages...
T. E.
A lovely quirky pub. With lovely helpful staff, great beer, like those brewed by the park brewery. And great food.
A historical place worth s stop a pint, and a browse through the menu of great fayre
J. T.
Tasty food, incredible authentic and cosy atmosphere. Great history told through the decorations on the walls. Number one London pub for a mulled cider at Christmas. A hideaway in plain sight where you can forget about your worries and catch up with good friends.
E. G.
A must visit when in London. Great food can sit inside or out and look over the river. The mid week pub quiz is great fun too. Lovely spot for food or drinks.
A. M.
Great night here with our fam as we were visiting from US
S. C.
Great place, great location and full of character. Really good beer and the food looks good too, though I've not yet had the chance to try any myself
R. P.
Wonderful pub, hundreds of years old, retains all its old character. Fine selection of beers, great cheese board. Excellent restaurant as well. Sunday evenings they light by candlelight so you experience the pub as it would have been in the 1600s.
A. J.
Amazing old pub... loved the decoration how it had been kept back in time. Had food that was good to. We crossed the road to the graveyard to look at Christopher Jones grave and it was interesting to see the last will and testament on the wall.
J. M.
Great entrees. Lovely service, and beautiful river views.
P. T.
Tucked away nicely down a cobbled Rotherhithe backstreet you'll find London's oldest pub on the Thames, with a rear deck perched above the river's south bank. A rustic set up inside, it can feel like you are in an old ship. On Sundays lights are switched off and the pub is softly lit by candles throughout. There is a decent sized room to hire upstairs for events and private parties etc. Food is typical pub stuff, reasonably priced. Tables can get reserved during busy times, so be prepared for waits on Sundays.
C. C.
I love this pub! Is one of me favourites in London! Is old and decorated as such; the food is great and is right by the river, so on hot days you can sit outside and enjoy the view!
B.
Beautiful old building and bar with very pleasant and original interior, one of the classic old pubs of London. Ale selection is decent and the staff are friendly. Very limited seating when it's cold or rainy outside. Regular clientele is rough around the edges but it is a proper London pub after all!
M. H.
Outstanding pub with great restaurant area upstairs. Epsecially great in the summer when the terrace at/over the thames is open and you can enjoy the river views. Very historic place and absolutely a gem of a pub in London. Please keep it as it is!
B. B.
The best Greene king pub there is and now going for pub of the year which it deserves always a nice real ale selection on. Freindly staff, lovely location looking over the River Thames too. Food looks really good
S. K.
Beautiful pub with an interesting history. Terrace outside is nice and has heaters. Food is really good (lots of vegetarian options) and the restaurant upstairs looks really nice (although I haven’t eaten up there yet).
S. S.
I don't review places very often, but the Mayflower Pub deserves to be celebrated and shared. While I stay close by, it was only last week, that I was introduced to the pub by a friend, over an impromptu evening drinks plan. As the other reviews mention, the place itself is truly quaint, straight out of a Dicken's novel - oddly squished yet extremely cosy. And yes, there are actual candles on each of the tables as well! But what won me over was not only the great setting but the fantastic service that went with the overall decor - Mayflower has a great team, kind, courteous and extremely attentive to what guests might need. My friend and I happen to walk in 30 minutes prior to the start of the Tuesday pub quiz - which requires to be pre-booked. As we didn't know, the staff gently reminded us that the table was reserved for a group that had actually booked the quiz, but we could stay on if we wanted to participate, till the group turned up. In between, there were some concerns that we may not have the table for much longer, as the group was definitely on their way in (which meant that we won't really have the space to participate in the quiz, to which we said it was okay for us to switch tables, and find another place). After some internal deliberations, the kind gentleman (quiz conductor), came back and said it was okay for us to continue sitting at our table, seeing as we wanted to participate and that they would accommodate the other group somewhere else. (We eventually came in second to last, but giggled and laughed all the way through). It was all in all a fabulous evening, so much so, that I have already made bookings for the hubby and friends for dinner at the restaurant for another trip to the Mayflower! Thanks very much for the great experience - see you guys very soon!
O. M.
Exquisite Thames side pub in Old Rotherhithe with great atmosphere . Four real ales were on offer and a great food menu. Staff attentive and friendly and service was quick. There is an outside terrace with Thames views and an upstairs eating area. This pub is a must visit.
I. F.
Such a gem in Rotherhithe. This pub is perfect for all occasions and seasons...beer terrace on the river for the summer (there are heaters in winter, if you feel brave), mulled cider to warm you up in winter...and you have to try it, it is the true drink of gods! Great pub food served, with an upstairs dining room for more formal meals. The interior in wood makes it very classy. Service is always impeccable...it is a pub you can't miss visiting!
A. K.
This place have it all, Great food, history and friendly staff... totally recommend it!
A. G.
Really good selection of beers and a nice Chicken Caesar Salad. Pints of guest ales reasonably priced at £4.20. Great view of River outside with friendly, helpful staff. Will definitely be coming again
M. K.
Lovely location, very atmospheric and v good food. Staff friendly and helpful. An experience and delight to go there. Celebrated my daughter's birthday and great fun was had by all
A. O.
Lovely pub with a great view of the river, historical connection, and good ales :)
M. G.
Good food, friendly service and lovely views over the river
A. A.
Great pub tucked away along the river. Had a delicious meal in the upstairs restaurant and the views over the river were good. Nice history to the pub too
B. P.
Back to 5 stars, outdoor tarp has gone!
Amazing spot on the river thames
.......
Love this pub, should rate it low to keep people away, good pub food and plenty of friendly staff, plus you get to eat ON the Thames - have lowered it to 3 stars.. as they have recently put an "temporary" tarp on the terrace.. which isn't so temp...
M. H.
Another Great pub near me. It also overlooks the river, but has in recent years become too popular. Under the last landlord you could get in and find a seat. Now its is very difficult. The service has improved under the new mangers and the food selection has widened. I still however, miss the hearty fish pie that they used to do. Its also a Greene King pub, so you can get some nice beers on tap.
r. b.
Historic pub with views across the Thames. The food is great if you like hearty traditional British cuisine. There's a great selection of beers served by really friendly bar staff. Being a very old building it can get a little cramped, but it all adds to the atmosphere.
