Reviews of The Mere Scribbler
V. E.
Best buffalo wings I’ve had outside of Chicago and the fries were fabulous!! I come here with my dogs, great selection of wine and craft beer. The new staff are lovely and the news of bottomless wings Wednesday even better!
M. B.
Went in to the Mere Scribbler on a cold Sunday afternoon (21st of November) received a warm welcome from the staff. Ordered drinks and food which was delivered promptly to our table. Food was well presented and enjoyable. Staff returned to the table to see if all was OK and if there was anything else we wanted, who we later found out was the manager. Which was nice.
R. T.
Booked table for a late Sunday lunch. Food was well presented. Generous portions. One minor irritation: Yorkshire pudding should have been served hot, it wasn't. Good wine and great selection of beers available, particularly those on tap. Overall friendly and caring service.
A. C.
Great for all events, table service, voting board for beer, what more do you need!
K. M.
Spacious, well managed pub with a chilled atmosphere, great value freshly prepared food and prompt, courteous service from friendly and attentive staff. Our Sunday night Miami burger and chunky chips were succulent and full of flavour and the vegan vanilla ice cream was the best we've tasted. Our very tall waiter Matt went the extra mile to look after us and brought a whole new meaning to service with a smile! No wonder this place is so busy. We'll be back soon!
A. S.
The Mere Scribbler is usually my first choice for Sunday roast in Streatham. However, on this occasion, the food arrived suspiciously quickly, the roast potatoes were burnt and the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard. The meat itself was a bit dry and tasteless and the presentation was sloppy. It was virtually impossible to attract the attention of any of the staff as they either had their backs to us or weren't registering when we made eye contact. We ate our food reluctantly and chalked it down to a bad day at the office for the staff.
K. A.
First visit to this pub for local resident.
First impressions
Welcomed with a reservation, booked in to watch the football and grab a spot of dinner with a pint. Was met with a very friendly group of staff, who provided an excellent spot and table service to all enjoying the game. I had some beer tasters and went with Doom Bar, although they had some light Pale Ales.
Food
Great mix of pub grub with lots of veggie and vegan options. Proper wedge chips and very quick service. I tried the vegan brioche BBQ Jackfruit Burger and wasn't disappointed.
Complex
They kept football fans well cared for to one side and ensured all other guests had free roam of spacious and twinkle lit pub. There is an outside area and little coves to sit and chat.
I was particularly taken with the additional notices of support, care and facilities toward baby changing requirements.
Signs also supported dogs welcome in the pub, which as a non dog owning dog lover is exactly what I hope for.
Overall
All in all, this is a little gem just off Streatham Common, that is run by a very passionate team who have set the scene for a very well run and friendly establishment. Whether it's quick pint, nibble or catching the match. I recommend this venue to all locals, families and canine companions.

A cozy pub for afternoon drinks. I like the small garden and the food is delicious. This is my go to beer garden place when I don't want to travel too far from home 👍
J. B.
Lovely pub. Came in simply to stretch my legs and watch the football after working from home all day. Really nice atmosphere. Staff seem top notch. Kat in particular was really good. Friendly, accommodating, attentive. Made sure I had the best seat to watch the game, put the sound on for me, nice way about her. Now if only spurs could win! 😂
L. C.
Had a really delicious meal here. Was pretty quiet on a Saturday lunchtime, but had a lovely time
J. C.
Went on a Sunday night, it was not too busy. Very cosy atmosphere.
Had the chicken roast, it was tasty and the portion very generous. The vegs were a bit oily..but it's ok, very good for the price! Would return again.
A. D.
A great little pub just off Streatham Common. Check out their "secret garden" out the back and good food. Warm and friendly service too. I would recommend this place to others and it might end up being my new local!
S. A.
We had a lovely night its located opposite Streatham Common park. They observe the H&S regs for staff and customers. Food was of high standard and good size portions. Great cocktails and on tap Beers. Others in party had StarPramen beer and said it was delicious.
D. O.
Been a streatham resident for a while and yet managed to not visit this pub. Very warm and attentive staff from the moment we came in. The St reatham's lager was a lovely replacement for the cider that they didn't have available and the platter my partner ordered was lovely
L. W.
Great food, could have a bit more for children and toddler especially because they did have a lot of families there.
J. L.
Greeted with smiles, always a good start. Cracking little secret garden with mellow tunes playing. The food was spot on!
F.
It was good. Really overpriced but the food was good
K. B.
We popped into the scribbler after a day on Streatham common with the intention of getting a quick pint before heading home - we ended up staying for three rounds! Thank you Thea for great service! A chill place for a beer, thanks for being kiddo friendly as well.
P. J.
Lovey place to go and eat. Such a shame the staff got my child’s lunch wrong twice. Eventually she got her meal but didn’t want it as she was filled up by sharing mine 🤣😁
C. G.
Mere Scribbler is good food, nice setting but far too many tvs on with just sky sports and no actual game on. Very friendly staff.
S. Z.
Stopped off here on a lil London pub crawl for an energy boost and food.
The Espresso Martinis were great, and although the doctor probably wouldn't prescribe them they did what was required ... dangerous 😁
Bravo Mere Scribbler !!!!
E. C.
Good choice of beers on tap, great atmosphere.
F. O.
We live close by.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Food ok and acceptable price.
S. E.
So glad to see that this venue has managed to reopen after being closed for a long period due to Covid. My partner and l popped in for a quick drink, after giving our contact numbers, we were taken to be seated and served promptly. Staff were extremely welcoming. Hope to return soon following whatever restrictions are in place
J. C.
Nice venue. Some of the staff lovely. Cosy outdoor area.
Q. N.
Great venue! Outdoor seating also really spacious. Staff and security guards are really friendly and have good banter! Only thing missing is a better range of food options, having said that I did not try the food in the end as there wasn't anything I fancied so cannot comment on the quality of the food. Really cool pub though!
P. L.
Really great service and excellent Sunday lunch!
E. W. H.
Great find. Nice surroundings. Girls was lovely today. Friendly and with our Grandson made us feel welcome. Great member if staff. Plenty of baby chairs just wish they had trays on them.
Food was very tasty. Vegetarian and Vegan people would be happy to eat here.
Hubby had the Brisket croquettes, daughter 2 had spinach cucumber and feta salad. I had the beetroot wrap with sweet potato falafel and loved it. Toilets also well kept.
Good experience and happy to give 5 stars f
J. L.
Had a fabulous meal, Your new Pizzas are delicious 👌 staff as always friendly and helpful😍
L. W.
My local pub. Good pints! Glad they are not swapping them all for craft beer like so many other places, but keeping a good variety. Food is good and the prices are ok. Service always attentive. Nice back patio, football and pub quiz!
D.
The pub is people and pet friendly. The food could be a bit better but I don't know if it was due to it being a Sunday they were rush off their feet.
The pub is clean and the service mediocre.
On Sundays they have a quiz night which is quite good everybody can get involved.
C. L.
Nice gastropub. Food was good but at the slightly pricey pub end. Steak was lovely and perfectly cooked. Great attentive and cheerful service but not invasive. Nice decor. All in all a great choice and would go again.
A. F.
I wasn't sure about this place when it first opened as a pseudo sports bar with a million TV screens...but they've toned it down a bit and it's a decent bar, as opposed to what I would call a pubby pub. Staff are pleasant, house red is a good 'un, and the beer garden decent in good weather. I do hanker after its previous incarnation, the Waterfront...it was a disaster after that as the Bank which seemed to attract a weird crowd, but now it's a nice place and a great location for a sharpener after a walk on the Common.
S. G.
Good food, lovely small rear garden, friendly atmosphere, worth a visit. Opposite Streatham Common
D. G.
Excellent staff, service and food! Would definitely come back again! Beer garden is out of the street and not in the wind at all!
N. A. D. J.
Went for the first time to the doggy brunch. The dogs were having a ball and we enjoyed hanging out in the beer garden. Brunch was superb, had the poached egg & avo on sourdough, generous portion and good service. Would definitely recommend this little Streatham gem 👌🏻
A. B.
It is our new favorite local gastro pub. We discovered it recently as we moved in the area 2 month ago. Very good food at a great price, amazing customer service and they had a good variety of beers! I like their £10 Mon-Wed dine out menu and Friday's £15 steak nights!
E. C.
Fantastic place! Staff very welcome.
J. J.
Great food, wine and service as always. Lovely little beer garden.
R. S.
Good spot for a night out, nice selection of drinks at the bar and the menu includes a wide range of dishes with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. There's a relaxed atmosphere, friendly and prompt service.
M. L. C.
We popped in for drinks after work on a Friday and had a really nice night. There's a great selection of drinks and we really enjoyed the food we had. The bar snacks are a really good option when you want to share with others. We'll definitely be back to check out the beer garden!
K.
Expensive gastro pub!
Good service nice atmosphere.
D. K.
I quite like the Mere Scribbler, but am not happy that they have decided to add a 10% service charge to all bills.
As customers are not allowed to go to the bar, all orders are table service only.
Paying an extra £3-£4 every time you order a round of drinks is not fair and it seems the pub is taking advantage of the new regulations to get more money out of their customers.
J. B.
Top venue! Staff are really friendly and they've certainly put a lot of effort into renovating the place. Nice touches everywhere you look. Not tried the food yet but I've heard it's very nice from my neighbors
M.
Pretty good food, staff are nice. Try to avoid football nights if you just want to have a nice meal out as it gets loud. Dogs are allowed which to some is a plus to others a minus, im not bothered. The only bad thing to say is that eith the changes to the menu vegetarian and vegan options are basically non existant.
P. W.
Enjoyed the food here, my daughter ordered a steak which was over cooked, it was repkac d no questions asked. Staff very good, helpful. Lovely ambience, liked the decor, toilets very clean, didn't go out into the garden so can't comment on that.
L. L.
We visited Mere Sribbler for the first time tonight even though we live around the corner. We’ll be back ASAP! Food was great, we had steak and chicken toscana. Great selection of gins and some very tasty cocktails. Excellent service. Also beautifully decorated and gorgeous fairy lit garden! This place is a real highlight for Streatham.
V.
The Mere Scribbler stands on the corner of Greyhound Lane and Streatham High Road. It is equally about food as it is drink and is set out that way too. The menu has unusual array of starters with traditional like Calamari to Dim Sum. For mains you've got some well thought out mains including a range of burgers.
Sundays of course means a lunch menu with chicken, pork and beef available. You can even order a Sunday lunch to share made up of all the meats. Deserts if you're still in need are there too and just a matter of what you fancy really.
There is a beer garden, it's small and if it's sunny, you're on direct sunlight for the best part of hours. It feels more pleasant place to be as the sun sets, plus factor in the noise of the road too.
For where it is, it's a nice pub with a young vibe. It isn't an old boy's retreat.
B. B.
Over the (busy) road from Streatham Common. Sells locally brewed beers on draught and I was offered a free taster. Interesting food menu although I didn't eat here. Small outside area with shade and full sun. Very friendly staff who happily turned the volume down on the music playing in the outside area.
M. R.
It's one of those places you just feel at home in straight away. The little meze/tapas style dishes are great, and worth coming back for, staff were friendly and the whole vibe is the right kind of relaxed - chilled but not sloppy..
D. K.
Nice pub only opened last year was The Bank and The Waterfront. Good food you can book tables, children need to be out by 8pm. Staff all very helpful.
C. B.
What a friendly place. Jazz & his team make you really welcome and the range of beers are great. Lovely space & garden. I'd like this to be my local!
R. N.
Brilliant, loved it. Great tentative staff and selection of drinks, just about to order food. Food was lovely followed by cocktails. Would recommend, adding to my favourite places.
A.
The second best roast in Steatham, definitely get the sharing roast. My pals and I fight over the best roast in Streatham, they say The Mere Scribbler, I say Pratt's and Paynes. It's a close competition. It's a great place to watch sports, super lively and the staff are lovely.
K. S.
Tried this place for the first time last week. Staff were friendly and food was quite good but reluctant to go back because I absolutely detest places taking an unagreed service charge automatically on my bill. Do a good job and I will happily give you a tip but just adding it on without asking leaves a bad impression. To be honest it's probably cost you a local regular customer.
N. O.
Nice pub with comfy beer garden - Sunday Roast is top notch.
They do a roast for 2 with three meats.
Always enjoy my visits.
M. C.
Newly opened in Streatham and refurbished to a good standard. Offer some decent food options, especially the Mac and cheese balls... not often busy yet compared to the more established Bull down the road, but is good and should get some recognition
V. d.
Great food and really friendly staff. Unfortunately have had a couple of long waits for food orders with rubbish excuses for them when chased up but overall a great pub.
J. F.
Lovely place, great roasts and never been massively busy even on a bank holiday Monday whilst serving roasts. Friendly staff. All round good one!
J.
Top food, top staff, shows tennis/cricket matches over football. The best part is the sound insulation inside means you can't hear any traffic at all, perfect. Smoking area compact but tidy.
f. x.
Average, drinks fine but a limited selection of beers. Food okay, fills the gap. Nice atmosphere inside.
J. S.
A pretty enjoyable little place to go. We went for a bit of lunch. Service was quick, staff attentive and good value for money. They also handled our overly complex order well.
M. M.
Great place! Very friendly and welcoming staff, excellent service and food. Our lovely pooches got a great welcome too, thanks for their water on a v warm morning!
D. J.
This is a pretty standard gastropub. Good but not exceptional feel and although the decor is good it feels like it could be one of any number of hipster style pubs I've been in lately.
A. M.
Nice atmosphere and good selection of food and drinks. Not on the cheap side but about normal for the area. They show football and have a quiz on Sunday's. Will be back again.
H. B.
Lovely pub, right opposite Streatham Common. Family friendly, delicious food. Chilled out atmosphere in a cool pub, with friendly helpful staff
R. B.
Such a nice pub opposite the common and the beer is always good. Staff are friendly and the bar stools are really nice.
S. R.
Nice place to hang out and eat or relax with a drink. Staff are always friendly with sports available on large screens. An enjoyable venue to Visit.
C. L. B.

C. C.
Great relaxing place for Sunday roast. Food is always excellent as is the service. Dog friendly too.

Another gem has been added to the high street. Local beers, great decor and delicious food. Strong rival to the bull a couple of doors along.

Eaten here a couple of times. Once was good, once was bad. And a little over priced. But v nice decor and friendly staff.
C. B.
