Reviews of The Morpeth Arms
S.
We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying pints (him) and g&t’s (me). Service was fantastic. Food looked great but we had just had a Sunday roast elsewhere so didn’t try anything. Lovely flower displays.

Nice pub in a great location next to Tate Britain and near Vauxhall bridge, playing on the spy theme with it's proximity to MI6 building. We came for lunch - good food, friendly service, characterful decor. I didn't have one, but my dining companion said 'best scotch egg' he's ever had. The menu, although not huge, has something for everyone including vegetarians. We ordered fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches and sausages with chips. There is a kids menu too.

Love this place. The barmaid is always super friendly to me and my lovely lady friend. She introduced us to her fiancee which was really nice

❤️ May was a trifle moist but with inside service now available it was time to venture out and start visiting our beloved London Pubs once again. My son and I decided to have a crawl around Pimlico and pub number 3 was the @morpetharms .
This pub was built in 1845 on the site of what was Millbank prison ond is situated on the north bank of the Thames just by Vauxhall bridge. The Morpeth is an elegant looking Victorian pub which sits alongside similar looking grand victorian houses on Millbank. Inside the elegance continues with dark wood floors, sumptuous leather sofas and tasteful decoration throughout. The pub is set out over two floors, we were sat upstairs as downstairs was busy but sitting upstairs has a bonus. Upstairs there are great views across the Thames where you can see the MI6 HQ and the tower residential building. There are pictures on the wall of spy’s like Guy Burgess who was a double agent for the soviets back in the 30’s. We were sat at a corner table and ordered a couple of pints rather than vodka martinis ( oh Yesch) which didn’t take long to arrive. The clientele was a mixed bunch from all walks of life which was great to see as you could assume that this is a posh pub with posh punters, but it’s not.
.
If your visiting the Tate or sightseeing around vauxhall bridge, this @youngspub is well worth a visit, it’s a quality pub that delivers an excellent convivial pub experience.

Been to this place a couple of times now and I like it. We tend to sit outside and they could maybe do with some heaters, but apart from that it's decent. Great and quick service - actually moved over from another bar as the service was taking too long and you certainly don't suffer the same issue here. Friendly bar staff, good selection of beers, cider, wine, spirits etc. Would recommend.
K. F.
Great food and even better staff! Absolutely enormous portions! Best Halloumi fries ever and the lemon tart is pure bliss. The servers and barmen are just brilliant. Super friendly and attentive. Also, I dispute the review below that it's pricey - can't get over what good value for money this Sunday lunch was! And the food was truly tasty. Can't recommend this place highly enough - we'll definitely be back :)
J. K.
The food was beautiful. The atmosphere was wonderful. The landlord was very kind to us in this magnificent historic pub
R. S.
Visited with friends after a trip round The Tate, this is a lovely pub just a short stroll away and right by the river. There is a good selection of high quality dishes on the menu and the staff are super friendly and attentive. A really nice, relaxed ambience and a great way to finish off our visit. Highly recommended.
W. M.
Very popular pub close to the River with friendly staff. Steaks were very nice washed down with Young's London Original. Upstairs room was booked from 6pm, but we availed ourselves before that.
R.
The food was fantastic, the wine even better! The staff were incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them
B. M.
Nice Bar for a weekend drink and it is close to the River Thames - friendly staff - they have outdoor tables and space, covid friendly. Loved the drinks (wine, cocktails, etc.) - Food also look great, but we were just out for drinks.
M. S.
Friendly staff in a well looked after pub. Nice food if that's what you want, an excellent pint of Guinness if that's more important. (it is to me) Recommended after a trip round the Tate.
C. J. G.
Nice pub by the River. Good beers and service.
C. M.
Great setting for a bar and no complaints, what stands out is the attentive and welcoming staff. Really great place to watch sport (not sure if it has specific sports channels outside of free-to-air). Good range of food options too. A little pricey but to be expected in the area.

OMG! The best pub meal I have had since I can remember. Following a sublime exhibition at Tate Britain (Turner: Painting the Modern World) me and my partner had an equally splendid lunch. We shared the pork and Chorizo Sausages, and the Chicken and Leek pie. The sausages were dense and meaty and served not over mash, but crushed Jersey Royals. The potatoes were so flavoursome! And the gravy also so tasty that I didn't make my usual request for butter.
The pie was actually presented as a pasty, in a really good way. Fully generous with the filling, and full of flavour. It also came with gravy, but with a different one to reflect the distinction between pork sausages and chicken pie. This was impressive.
The dessert was a masterpiece. Desserts are so often disappointing, cloying or too heavy, but this one was none of these. A dark chocolate and peanut butter tart, it was light but so, so tasty.
My most memorable meal of the year so far.
A. I.
Had a Sunday roast and I had butternut squash nut roast which was amazing! Very decent prices too (for London!) - £38.50 for two roasts, 1 meat and 1 vegetarian, and two drinks! Both plates were generous and cooked perfectly. Very nice atmosphere too, can imagine it heaving inside and outside during warmer weather. Definitely recommend to visit and I shall be back there next time when I visit Tate Britain.
A. S.
Awesome place! The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, there is a great selection of drinks and all staff are really friendly. I highly recommend!
D. W.
Nice venue and staff but disappointed by the Sunday roasts. We had one beef and one chicken. Both arrived with no roast potatoes and cold roast carrots. We sent them back to be re-heated and to have roast potatoes added. When they came back the portions of veg were noticeably smaller... and still no roast potatoes! Side dishes of 'roast potatoes' did then arrive, but they were hard, dry and clearly out of a packet. We asked for a reduction in the price, and to give the manager credit he didn't charge us for 2 glasses of wine.
A. L.
Lovely establishment just off Vauhall bridge. Friendly and helpful staff and an good menu.
I ordered the Honey & Mustard Sausages and the Morpeth Burger. Very well cooked and tasted fantastic 😁
A. S.
Absolutely wonderful pub! Staff attentive, funny and knowledgeable. Food delicious. Atmosphere buzzy and friendly. A perfect place to while away an afternoon! Shoutout to Aleks in particular for being a star.
J. S.
While visiting London we adopted this great pub as our “local”. Initially because it was close to our Airbnb - and has a great location (looking out onto the Thames). However we soon came to love it for the “vibe” - nice crowd and great customer service. The food is good too - one of the better fish and chips around (and I had that four times). The sausages and sausage rolls are a treat too.
However the best bit for me is the quality of their staff - a very good team with a good focus on customer service (without being obsequious).
J. R.
Morpeth Arms was an easy walk from our Airbnb near Vauxhall station and recommended by our hosts. We had a lovely dinner- friendly, quick service, excellent suggestions & guidance from the wait staff. Upstairs dining was quiet, downstairs pub was more lively. Would definitely recommend.
A. S.
Very friendly, great beer selection. Nice menu.
Next to Thames and MI6. Outside seats too. Winner
s. d.
Good pub, lovely, friendly, helpful staff. No soap in gents plus the cracked mirror in the gents needs replacing.
C. G.
Had a lovely ploughman's with some chips on the side, on the way to the Tate Britain. The sausage roll served with the ploughman's was superb, and the cheese was excellent too. I've seen reviews about the service but everyone was attentive, cheery and helpful, so would definitely recommend a visit.
A. M.
Really good food the Sunday roast has a modern twist I quite enjoyed. Amazing service too
D. M.
Lovely classic Young's pub located in a prime position overlooking the Thames and a few hundred metres from Tate Britain.
Great selection of beers, wines, spirits etc and fine classic dishes available all day.
Apparently there is a ghost in the basement, and upstairs there is a telescope trained on the MI5 headquarters!
You have to visit this establishment if you want to claim that you have visited London's finest drinking dens.
A. B.
Great place to drop into if you have just walked along the Thames or spent a good hour or 2 in Tate Britain. Well located Youngs pub with a good selection of beer and drinks. Lovely staff especially the lady with the blonde bob who is super smiley and friendly. The food is priced similarly to other central london pubs, so not cheap but fair compared to other places, and my club sandwich was massive! Easily big enough for 2.
J. C.
Nice pub by the river. Great food, beers, spirits and friendly staff
S. I.
Super cozy pub in a really convenient area for me. I loved the vibe of the place and the servers were friendly. I would call it "cozy" for sure. They had a mysterious TV in the corner showing a picture of something underground...
B. S.
Great environment and location. Sunday was not the first time being served by Anna, Jamie and Kalvis and they are really bubbly and welcoming. I could not ask for a better way to spend my day.
I am coming back for this Roast Beef!!!! Fu**ing Amazing!!!
M. F.
Excellent food, ale, atmosphere and staff. Beautiful historic building with a fabulous back story. Food is to die for ❤🤙🏻
S. P.
Good beer friendly welcoming staff..Nice pub
N. B.
Beautiful old Youngs London boozer. Classy characterful and comfortable in equal measure.
E. T. R. L.
Fantastic welcome from Jamie the boss and his team. Great quality food and drink in a nice traditional London pub atmosphere.
M. V.
Lovely pub with very good friendly staff.
S.
Lovely pub with friendly staff and cold beer. Great to be able to sit outside and watch the world go by.
P. S.
We came here during the eat out to help out scheme one evening after our booking fell through at another pub down the road. We were lucky to find ourselves a table indoors and the staff were welcoming. There are a good selection of drinks on tap. Food was of a high standard; I had the cottage pie which was great. I would be happy to return in the future.
C. P.
A London pub with history! Great environment and incredible location. A bit pricey for what it is but can’t complain too much in the hear of London. Very friendly staff
J.
Fast and friendly service at the bar! Plenty of space and not unreasonable prices for location.
D.
The food was really good but the staff was quite bad. We have ordered a Sunday roast and an asked an extra plate for sharing (it is a big meal only for one) but the staff was upset to get the extra plate. There was not a menu for non alcoholic beverages either.
F. M.
Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. I never had to wave anyone down for service. The covid precautions were thorough. I felt very safe there. The food was delicious (I had the Bangers & Mash) and the beer was great. My server made a great suggestion!
J. M.
Love this bar but it can get busy downstairs. Head upstairs for a quieter, cosier feel with a proper fire. Dog friendly too!
E. J.
I booked a table for drinks. They have all my favourite white wines! So we had a few bottles and some chips, nuts and crisps. It would be great if they had a more extensive snacking menu for occasions such as ours. Lovely staff.
C. B.
Beautiful pub with history. There are tunnels under that connected with the old prison where the Tate is now.
A. D.
Warm & welcoming, my dry white wine w soda lovely 😋
J. B.
Lovely pub with a vibrant and diverse crowd. Good Food, Good drinks and an excellent staff who is always there if you need anything. 10/10
L. P.
Yasmin and Jamie were amazing. They were super accommodating and even served us up a delicious English Breakfast on our last day in the UK despite the breakfast menu being finished for the day. Extremely friendly and good conversation. Highly recommend :)
S. I.
Nice beer, nice food. Friendly staff. Has a cell where naughty people once were
H. J.
Lovely welcoming pub. Definitely recommend.
S. T.
Made us welcome as strangers and good food, fantastic view.
J. S.
Delicious food, not a great location but certainly a hidden gem. Bar man was very welcoming.
B. H.
Excellent Sunday roast - the best in Pimlico by far!
T. S.
Staff is very friendly too. I felt we even made a new friend hah. Always checking if everything is okay and not in the pushy way or at the moment you might just put some food in your mouth so very well trained staff.
The prices I would say are a bit high. Food is delicious for sure, but for the quantity I think it’s a little bit overpriced. Plus it’s a chain restaurant.
They have great offers through on several days so worth checking that :)
H. C.
Lovely intimate little pub, situated on the Thames path. Friendly relaxed staff. Looking forward to the restrictions ending so I can explore the cells under the building! Would visit the spy room upstairs if I came again, as didn't realise it was open. 10/10 pub :)
B. D.
Friendly pub in a great location. Really ideal for meeting friends after work. Nice beers too!
A. v. B.
Friendly welcome, good atmosphere and great menu. Well worth the trip to Pimlico
G. M.
Nice pub with very good English food close to the Tate Britain.
O. J.
Super friendly staff and amazing food, can't recommend enough!
S. S.
Great service! Lovely staff, Aleks was amazing accommodating us last minute for euro finals. Would definitely recommend 👌
H. M.
Great cozy pub, nice selections of beer great attention
h.
A nice bar, with friendly staff and nice atmosphere, always busy after work.
A. R.
Great place just a step from Pimlico Station. Real ale selection is great as well as the beers on draft. Good spirits as well!
Service is very nice and warm, Jamie is great!
Will definitely be back soon for a pint and a chat with the staff.
Cheers guys!
R. D.
I was well chuffed to stumble across this pub. It’s a fab. Traditional and perfect after work meeting spot. Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is my 5 star pubs serve lots of different craft beers ( I am well into craft beer) this serves a great selection and therefore makes it a pub I would go back to and it’s deserves 4.5 from me. Not many 5 star pubs out there in my opinion so I would say this is fantastic and well worth a visit. I can’t comment on the food but the staff and beer were top notch.
J. G.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast with my wife along with a really great pint of locally brewed ale. Very friendly staff in attractive surroundings. It has a great upstairs room too with an open fire and views over the river.
G. E.
Awesome little pub with frankly amazing food, the surf and turf was probably one of the best pieces of lobster I've had.
The current deals for the eat out to help out are frankly ridiculously good and this is a must check out whenever you're in the area.
D. B.
Nice place, good selection of beers and ciders. We had the scotch egg which was lush.
B. K.
Great bar area, nice setting with outdoor seating.
M. S.
Nice pub. Good beer. Right by the river.
E. P.
Very nice pub. Great location a stone's throw from Tate Britain. Nice meal but club sandwich wasn't cut into manageable portions so was practically impossible to eat without mess and difficulty. Shame as the food was tasty - especially my partner's pie. Nice atmosphere too.
A. M.
Lovely friendly staff! And they let us order food to the beer garden as the kitchen isn’t open til later this month. They even had SAUCES. Winner winner chicken dinner
J. W.
An excellent burger... I think that's how you spell it, or is it bëurgwer? Anyway, it was delicious. Very friendly staff, and a nice all around pub. Great place to stop off for the Tate Britain. We were not a small group, my wife and 7 children had a great time also. The kids menu satisfied all of their food needs. I will definitely recommend.
C. C.
A really nice pub with great food and a great wine list. Try the carrot and coriander hummus with the sourdough in the restaurant upstairs. And check out the Malbec. 👀
s. a.
Amazing pub, great location with the river across the road. Drink prices are good and recommend the classic burger with an egg if you're hungry. Will be sad to see the bar staff rotate as it's a great and very friendly team. Bring your glasses back and they're more likely to remember your order, they appreciate it 👍
S. C.
Lovely food, relaxing atmosphere and everything very clean
P. L.
Group breakfast for 30 of us.
Good value, served well, and hot food on hot plates!
Full English breakfast just as it should be.
Very tasty, everyone was catered for AND no issue or problem with adding at last minute.
Most impressed, wouldn't hesitate to return
A. S.
Food is delicious (and not just for a pub). Servers are exceptionally nice and friendly. Nice view across from the river and food for people watching seated outside.
I. C.
Service was slow. I had to ask several times for the staff to take my order for food even after they said they would. Quite empty at first but became busy fairly quickly. Rather confusing as it was table service but not really efficient at taking orders but the food came quite quickly once the order was taken. Didn't help that the computer they made the orders on meant they faced the wall away from customers and they were slow to spot people walking in or trying to order.
The food was ok, typical pub grub nothing special. Good selection of beers were evident but I didn't want to drink as I was walking and sightseeing.
J. W.
This Young's pub is quite outstanding for beer and food. Whether you opt for the established Young's beers or one of the guest beers, the standard is hard to beat. Food comes in great brunches or full lavish lunches. The veal, bacon and egg burger was delicious. I can also vouch for their excellent home made scotch eggs. Most of the day they do lovely home made Cumberland sausage rolls. If you're visiting the Tate, it's ideal for post exhibition refreshment. Only beware of two things - it's good so it does get busy and second, there is (reputedly) a ghost.
L. H.
The staff could not be more accommodating if they tried. Warm and friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. We had the smoked ham, egg and chips, the fish and chips and for dessert the sticky toffee pudding. All were cooked to perfection, well presented and more than ample portions.
This is a venue where you can bring friends, family, colleagues or loved ones. You're able to hold a conversation within a welcoming environment.
The history of the venue as well as the general location all add to the positives of the Morpeth Arms.
We look forward to coming back here again very soon.
E. B.
I like the dining upstairs, the view was beautiful and relaxing. They have a great selection of drinks and the food was amazing, the service was quite slow though but understandable since it was packed when I got there.
F. R.
Very pleasant surroundings/decor and good attentive service very eager to please and satisfy the customer. A toastie I had was not very good a large amount of bread with about 2 spinach leaves and a little bit of cheese. Very expensive for what it was BUT because of my disatisfaction I was given a discount which was very welcome. This is a highly recommendable pub close to Tate Britain opposite the river Thames.
C. B.
Great amount of space in the private function room. Good views over the thames
D. O.
This is a very smart Young's pub on the water slightly off the beaten track. Expect the usual Young's selection of drinks with a couple of of guest cask ales and nothing you haven't already heard of in kegs. Food is on the expensive side for pub food but very good, and there's a dining room upstairs if you're the sort that likes to book a table for a meal. Everything inside looks very smart and shiny despite retaining that old english pub feel.
Staff are extremely helpful - I actually can't remember the last time I left a pub with such a good impression of the service; the barman remembered rounds all night for example.
Due to location this place wasn't particularly touristy in the evening, and had a pretty civilised atmosphere as mainly full of local office workers.
M. L.
Usually very good but diassapointed on the last visit. We went there with friends, their first visit, they don't want to return. No tables free so sat upstairs, we were about to go down and order a few nibbles and someone came in to take our order. We went up and down stairs to get our own drinks. On leaving we paid for our food and had a service charge put on top. I don't mind paying for service if we had actually had it.
n. s.
A bit overpriced but given the area that is expected.
The food is decent although the fish and chips were a bit too much better and not enough fish.
A good place for a drink up but very busy most evenings.
Gin and Tonics are around 10 pounds.
J. H.
Stopped off for a quick drink while walking along the Thames last night. A great beer selection and very friendly staff. The pub is steeped in history and I'd recommend enquiring about the existing prison cells below the pub - there's an information booklet kept behind the bar. You may even be lucky enough to get a quick tour (emphasis on being lucky as it is very dependant on how busy the pub is and how many staff are on hand). Overall i'd definitely recommend paying a visit.
R. L.
If you are in the Vauxhall area there is not a great selection of pubs and bars but this little spot, which fills up very quickly, is wonderful in the summer for a drink in the sunshine and a short walk back to the tube when you need to get home. There is a lot of businesses in the area and this is one of the few options to service a lot of people so get there early in order to get a seat and avoid the queues.
E. B.
Really lovely pub in a great location! Beer was top qualify and menu looks nice. Staff were welcoming and their general manager was very friendly with a fantastic beard.
C. G.
Nice cosy place and clearly popular. Most of the staff were pleasant and the food was nice. Wouldn't get the steak again - it was below par and overpriced, but other items that our group ordered seemed nice
M. J.
So we were queuing in the Tate Britain members restaurant on Monday when the alarm went off and everyone had to leave. At least we hadn't ordered our food. Went to the Morpeth Arms, which was suddenly swamped with customers from the evacuated Tate. We had fish finger buns, chips and a tasty bottle of white wine. It was all piping hot and delicious. Staff were really friendly and coped very well with the sudden influx of people, as did the kitchen. We'll definitely go there again when visiting the Tate.
C. t.
Decent pub (proper pub) close to the Thames. Good beer selection, decent app to order, quick service. Outside seating for the warmer days.
D. E.
Staff are pretty friendly. Good mix of locals and visitors. Keep their ale well. Pub has historic connections to convict transportation with a cellar "ghost camera" in the bar. Upstairs function room is a tribute to espionage and overlooks a certain agency across the river.
L. Z.
Near the Tate Modern, from posters in house seems a pub with history. We had drinks only, but food on the next table looked and smelt amazing. Four star as the staff didn't really bother about our existence there :)
A. T.
Nice pub with fast service and friendly service team
S. F.
Excellent service, great wine and beer. Want to say a thanks to the staff on late Sunday afternoon 10.10.20 for great service. Will be visiting again
K. E.
Super friendly and accommodating staff. Venue is perfect for a summer's day outside, or to huddle up in during the winter. Oh, and great wine selection!
H.
Really lovely pub - popped in for a couple drinks and snacks after visiting the Tate. Lovely staff, tasty food (plates of sticky sausages, whitebait and chips for two) and pretty good beer. No TV, no kids (I'm sure they're welcome, just none there that day and it was great) - just the kind of pub that I thought had ceased to exist.
Well done to Young's and to the staff at the Morpeth - looking forward to my next visit.
H. C.
Nice pub inside and out however the prices are quite high, even for a couple of beers
T. O.
Lovely pub in a nice setting
Good customer service and range of drinks and food
R. A.
Slightly disappointing Sunday roast (advertised as the best in town!) Flat Yorkshire's, uninspired veg and a slightly bland nut roast left me disappointed. Excellent setting by the river and good service mitigated the sub-par food.
Y. K.
Swell pub situated opposite M16. Spy themed place with great beers and cocktails (although I'm not sure if the cocktails were just for the specially themed Google evening!). Charming outside area too with high tables and chairs around one side, and low ones at the front. I imagine it would be lovely during hot weather to sit, drink and discuss who's nipping in and out of the building across the river!
F. O.
Good location, great service, decent beer. Good place for a hangout. Typical London prices. Pub has significant history
D.
Lovely pub with attentive staff in prime location near the Tate Gallery. Situated on top of the remains of the Millbank prison so allegedly complete with ghost in the cellars (visible through constant TV monitoring!). Sadly the food is prohibitively expensive and quite disappointing too. The menu sounds exotic but unless you like paying £8.50 for an Egg and pea sandwich - on supermarket sliced bread! - it would be best to stick to the drinks. They also automatically add service charge on your bill. Beware!
C. H.
The roast dinner on a Sunday is a must try, home made Yorkshire puds that are to die for! Friendly service and casual atmosphere. Great to pop into for a friendly drink and could easily become you're next local.
J. B.
They've taken the binoculars out of the upstairs spying room which is a shame as I love a gimmick. Pale ales too expensive but then that seems to be the way in most London pubs these days; not a stop off for a quick pint and a sausage roll unless you think 9 quid for this particular pleasure is fair game.
J. S.
Street side pub, we'll set up to deal with Covid restrictions. Beer was hoppy, house red was tasty, bill wasn't a mortgage, staff were friendly - happy days.
M. K.
Great and prompt service and delicious food. Loved the music and got to play board games with friends.
If you go upstairs, you can use the binoculars to view the environs of the restaurant which is near London bridge.
C. B.
Very imaginative and tasty food (wild boar meatballs, roasted purple carrots), good house wine and pleasant pub atmosphere. Upstairs dining quiet and so easy to talk to each other - and very convenient for Tate trips.
M. W.
Close to the Tate Britain, nice ales also food available.
C. G.
Nice location in a lovely part of London. Staff could be more friendly especially whilst under pressure. The Sunday roast was great, with large portion size how ever other items on the menu were lukewarm and bland.
I. M.
Very accommodating and hospital. Lovely ale
P. B.
The Morpeth Arms is 2 mins walk from Tate, so worth a visit. Staff charge a lot, but always friendly. The highlight of the pub is the upstairs view of MI5 on the opposite riverbank , the pub very kindly provides binoculars to spy on them.
M. J.
Reasonable pub with a nice outdoor seating and standing area. Great views over the water. Friendly staff and plenty of drunk options. Slightly bad layout for moving around and a bit worn down
R. V.
Great place for lunch after visiting Tate Britain.
P. L.
We visited the Morpeth Arms on Wednesday evening 27th March 2019 and were greeted by a delightful member of staff.
What a lovely pub. I strongly advise you seek it out for yourselves.
I will be visiting again as soon as I can.
D. Y.
We had Christmas lunch at the hotel, the food was great and plenty was provided on the plate, so much so that we could not eat any tea afterwards. We liked the ambience and history of the hotel, with a staff member showing us the old tunnel under the hotel.
K. “. W.
Excellent food and service with a superb atmosphere. Enjoyed everything.
A. D.
Plenty of tables and delicious chips!
F. H.
Good selection of drinks, nice and friendly bar staff, lovely to sit outdoors in the summer and the food is good and served until late. Not yet had the sunday roast but if their daily menu is anything to go by it will be just as delicious.
P. M.
Excellent snack grub, and a good range of beers and tonics. Friendly staff, easy and comfortable. And handy for Tate Britain. Recommended!!

Its a nice pub in a nice setting that i have frequented from time to time over the years. Recently had our office xmas party in the spying room upstairs. The food was pretty average and over 20 people were served by just one waiter so it was pretty slow going.
R. M.
Despite what some reviewers have said, prices are definitely reasonable for the food you get. The beer battered cod and chips, excellent. Good service and a nice pub overall. Will definitely come back
N. O.
Nice warm friendly pub. Food was good as was the service. The viewing room was closed for a private party unfortunately. The pub itself is looking a bit tired and in need of a refurbishment.
D. E.
Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff
j. d.
Popped by for a Sunday roast. Only disappointment was I couldn't decide on pork or beef which both looked good when they came out. Opted for the beef which was spot on. Good and friendly service and the guiness hit the mark too.
M. P.
Super London Pub. Fabulous welcome by the bar team. So nice and friendly it was just like a good Welsh pub. Made our lunch special. Thanks muchly.
H. W.
One of my favourite pubs in London, and even more so after their refurb, it looks great! Love the choice of beers here and the staff are always really friendly and helpful with reccomendations
B. H.
Great place to have a pint and a meal. It gets very crowded in the evenings from people working in the area during the week. A lot of locals use this place for a good meal at the weekend, especially in the summer.
R. W.
Nice boozer with plenty of character. Mix of locals and tourists. Tasty, well presented food and good beer selection of Youngs ale.
J. O.
I held a surprise 45th birthday party for my husband in The Spying Room (upstairs in the Morpeth Arms) last weekend.
Though stressful in the run up to it, Gary and his team made everything go really smoothly. Gary was great on email and was more than happy to answer my (many!) questions and sort out my requests - from welcome prosecco, ordering off-menu, music, signage and decorating the place.
Everyone enjoyed the party – including the birthday boy – and all said how friendly and great the staff were. Good wine list, ale and beers on tap and a range of good gins. The drinks on offer in the Spying Room bar are less than the main bar, but overall everyone was able to get what they wanted very easily. The décor is great – plush furnishings, but not over the top, and very relaxed.
The view of MI6 and the Thames (and the huge windows) add to the atmosphere, and the quirky MI6 and spying touches (binoculars to spy on MI6, spy books, the CCTV of the ‘haunted’ basement) are really well done.
Loved the pub any way from many happy Tate Britain visits, but love it even more now. For a central London pub, it’s rare to find one that really stands out, but this place does. If you’re looking for a relaxed central London venue for a party (or a meeting or presentation), stop looking.
A. M.
Decent surroundings and drinks, a pleasant skylight and chandelier top off this cosy riverbank pub. Nice facts on the wall. The stained glass window is not designed in the way I would design it, but is nevertheless quite fetching. However, the place is clearly not haunted. I watched the ghost camera for literally three minutes and saw nothing. The only ghastly thing about this place is the music they play, rather too loudly. What I did there was make a pun on the supernatural / pejorative meanings of "ghastly". I hope you appreciate it.
E. S.
One of the best breakfast I've ever had. Staff is super friendly and service very quick. I'll definitely recommend this place for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
C. C.
Great little pub always serving cold beer, ate there for the first time this weekend and the burger did not disappoint. Highly recommend to anyone passing through the area.
J. D.
My wife and I are visiting London for 11 days. We have visited Morpeth twice so far and now regard it as our favorite pub. Too bad it's such a long walk from our home in Tucson, Arizona. Cheers to all the staff for making us feel so at home in London.
J. W.
It was very busy when we went. Once we found a seat the restaurant staff were great. We ordered roast dinners, they came really quickly and were delicious
C. S. -.
Honestly the best roast I ate. The room is warm, peuple are nice and the food is great. A high ranking pub.
S. T.
Lovely food, selection of tipples and helpful and polite staff
O. S. (.
A decent pub that tends to show matches and things.
They do food (try the mustard and honey sausage bits), coffee, and booze.
If you're visiting the British museum then I would suggest this place after your visit.
Z. P.
Fans of James Bond and spy stories should check out the upstairs bar which has views (and binoculars for an even closer look) of MI6. On the ground floor, you'll find the normal pub with pub grub and the usual suspects of spirits, beers and so on. Below ground, they apparently have a haunted cell too... The staff here are particularly lovely and enthused about their bar which is refreshing.
J. B.
Nice friendly staff and a fairly good range of beer. The sausage and mash was delicious but the Rarebit was distinctly lacking in flavour.
S. N.
Recently acquired a new general manager, and has returned to the level I loved a couple of years ago. Well situated for Tate Britain, with plenty of pavement tables for people watching.
B. F.
Good spot on the river with some decent ales. Fine to drink outside, it's a standard Young's pub but more than adequate for a pint if you're passing.
A. P.
Lively local with loads of great art work on the walls. Good bit of history to it. Friendly staff. Generic food and booze mind, sorry only 4 star...
J. H.
This is about as close as Pimlico gets to a characterful and historic pub, and if you find yourself looking for that in the area this is probably your best bet. Quite a nice exterior, interior perhaps slightly too modernised for my tastes, although the "Spying Room" upstairs is sort of interesting. It's a Young's pub, which I have to admit isn't really my favourite beer.
R. W.
Good food and real ale. You can use the binoculars to look at the MI6 HQ across the river. Nice place to go after visiting the Tate Britain Turner collection.
P. G.
Good location overlooking the river.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Interesting decor playing up association with spying.
Decent food & drink.
P. A.
Our local at work. Good beers, good food, and good atmosphere. People stand out on the street in summer and Friday nights are great fun. Check out the live video of the dungeons.
t. k.
Lovely pub, great staff, polite and sensible approach to social distancing. A fantastic place
J. M.
Lovely London pub. Friendly efficient staff. Great food perfect for a visit to the fantastic Tate Britain located next door
B. S.
Great little pub with some good food and interesting outdoor seating. Smarter than the others in the area. Nice view on to the river, but busy road.
I. S.
Lovely traditional pub with nice features. Quiet during the week overlooking the river Thames. Bad point is the food is very bland in particular the pesto and avocado salad...I was very disappointed.
D. W.
Good beer and bar food.
W. E.
Packed with cliques.. not the kind of pub you'd go to on your own and be relaxed as it can be so busy. That said, no issues with clientele and staff were friendly..
A. M.
Staff really helpful, nice dining room upstairs. It's opposite MI6 with great views, and lots of interesting spy-related memorabilia. The food is great
F. S.
Great pub with good food right on the river Thames and opposite the SIS Building which houses the headquarters of the British Secret Intelligence Service. If you go upstairs there are more tables, quieter and better view of the river and binoculars you can use to see along the Southbank of the river. It was mid-afternoon, after being to Tate Britain for an exhibition, when we went and we saw the actor that plays Mycroft in the current incarnation of Sherlock Holmes having a cuppa with friends!
p. h.
Great little, quaint pub. Staff very nice n friendly. Dint av any food but did look very nice in what I saw of others.
K. R.
A great amazing location to chill on a Sunday afternoon....
G. M.
Ok pub but nothing special. Clientele seem to be mostly from the nearby Tate. £5.10 for Fosters is quite expensive. Have a look though and see what you think
D. W.
Good beer. Nice staff. Clean toilets. Seating outside okay if it hasn't been / isn't raining.
K. G.
A charming pub now under new management. Head upstairs, past the spy-themed photos to where you'll find the Spying Room, complete with binoculars hanging at the windows. With MI6 across the river, this place would make the perfect location for a clandestine meeting...!
N. O.
A bit dull and very expensive without the ambiance of an upscale place. I felt because it's across the street from the river they are charging more than is fair. Bar staff very good and outdoor seating nice
R. V.
Good food and the waiter was really nice. The area is beautiful and quiet, it's perfect the perfect spot to grab a bite before/after going to the Tate Britain
D. K.
Food was great and the staff were lovely. The history of the place is amazing. A great place to go after looking at Tate Britain.
G. L.
Nice location, ambiance and service.
H. W.
Nice small pub, staff pleasant. Didnt eat there so couldnt comment on food
R. M.
Sunday lunch is great and the staff are very friendly. Plenty of room upstairs if the main bar is full.
F. D.
Great views over the Thames. Alright selection of drinks. Don't try any cocktails here. Food is OK. Nice sausages
E. B.
Spent the evening in the Spying Room upstairs which has great views over MI6. The pub keeps binoculars upstairs too so you can watch the watchers.
The cocktails are made quite strong, which is always a good thing.
j. A.
It's a great spot to sit outside, on a summer's day, with a cold pint. It's not a great place to eat because the menu is often fussy and a bit pricey, but for a pint, it's a lovely place to be.
P. L.
This is a must visit pub in London. Situated directly opposite MI6, the upstairs room has a themed spying room styled after infamous 1920s spy Mata Hari, complete with binoculars to have a peek on Britain's spying HQ. The pub is also steeped in history, standing on the site of the former Millbank prison, although the former prisoner holding cells aren't current open to the public. (If you're nice to the owner Gary however, you might just be allowed a peek inside).
A. S.
Not been in years, and the Event obviously restricts it (no dungeon visits anymore), but still a lovely riverside pub.
R. W.
Traditional London pub with some history and a secret, spying, ghostly theme.
Pleasant welcoming ground floor bar area and "Spying Room" upstairs with a view across the Thames to spy on the spies: the MI6 building is across the river.
Free WiFi requires agreeing to receiving email newsletters from Youngs and "friends".
G. M.
Nice pub, great beer, good food, amazing history, bit pricey
S. C.
Nice pub. Very dear, but to be expected. Can get very busy, very quickly. Decent boozer though
C. C.
Nice pub friendly and polite
P.
Great open and friendly Youngs pub. Several tasty beers on offer and a decent selection of food with views over the river.
M. L.
Why in the world would you charge 95 pence for a dash of like cordial? I could perhaps understand if this pub was bang smack in the middle of Covent Garden, but Pimlico? Not okay.
M. T.
love coming here just for the history and watching the ghost cam. Service is pretty good too
A. G.
Cosy corner pub a stone's throw from Tate Britain. Decent selection of beers and a reasonable (if a tad pricy) food menu.
E. D.
My friend and I had an awesome time... the staff have been amazing and amazingly friendly.. we would definitely recommend this place to anyone..10/10
M. H.
Lovely friendly pub with good beer
and good food. Popular at lunch time.
R. M.
Great pub, handy for Tate Britain. Managed to buy a pint for less than a fiver. Great atmosphere.
M.
Comfortable and well decorated but unpretentious. The staff and even other patrons were helpful to me as an unfamiliar visitor. I look forward to returning.
C. S.
amazing 5 star all the way me and bromley love it bromley is my dog loves the beer naugthy boy he is very socail with bar star and customers
P. M.
Good food if a little pricey. But it is Central London so it is to be expected. Staff are very friendly and service is quick. Food is very tasty.
n. j.
Lovely pub but just beware if you of service charge they sometimes add to your bill
J. S.
Nice staff. Limited beer and wine now... probably due to Covid. Careful about cleanliness.
S. B.
Very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Good food and choice of beers. Highly recommend
M. i.
Enjoyed playing Cluedo Classic board game disappointed My daughter won after some person cleverly arranged it so when she began the game it lead her right to the clues without me even playing.
G. G.
Great pub, could be pretty busy of Fridays evenings. Good option for having a pint!
A. D.
A nice interior and friendly staff, but the drinks are a bit expensive. That's what you get for being so close to a big cultural landmark though.
P. E.
Great pub. Good beer/drinks selection and the bar snacks are also lovely!
C. C.
The room upstairs is lovely and warm. Food is very good and good choice of wines. Very friendly staff!!!
M.
Great place, amazing staff, delicious food, specially scampi and big choice of beers, IPAs, cidres..
Will definitely go back
S. D.
The food and drinks are expensive compared to other pubs in the area, but the staff are nice and the location is great.
S. C.
Very friendly and wonderfully close to Tate Britain. Would recommend
A. K.
Great service, good sausage rolls on show and the Camden hell's on fine form. Company wouldn't be quiet but hey ho
I. H.
Decent boozer across the river from MI6. Not huge, can be busy and sure to get busier with the new residential tower nearby almost done. Has WiFi.
H. H.
Nice and modern pub close to the Tate. Haven't tried the food but beers are good.
Maybe a little bit pricy but ok.
J. D.
Nice pub. A bit pricey but, London, eh?
C. F.
Nice pub with outside seating but it's busy after office hours as it's a popular choice for workers around the area
V. V.
A decent pub, with good staff and an interesting layout, humdrum crowd of office drones and tourists during the week. Reasonable beer selection.
A. E.
Great Sunday roast. Lovely Yorkshire pudds. Good for kids upstairs and lovely staff.
T. L.
Not many places to drink around here, but this is worth a look up if you're at Millbank. Rumoured to be haunted. When it comes to lager, they serve Hells on draft which is my go to.
J. T.
Nice bar with a nice atmosphere. They also have semi decent pub food. I also love that they have a room called the spy room.
J. R.
Good staff, nice beer
M. B.
Nice food. Very friendly staff but oh so noisy with loud music and hub hub of talking it was impossible to have a conversation without shouting
Z. R.
Great local pub, close to Tate Britain, good selection of beers
A. P.
Great little pub, with good outdoor space and a decent selection of ales.
D. Ś.
Great traditional pub with extremely friendly and smooth service. A must visit whenever you’re in the neighbourhood!
E. W.
Fascinating history, really good food, nice location for view of the Thames, MI5 building, Tate gallery and Millbank just a few minutes walk away.
Z. S.
Nice pub, I like the upstairs room especially where there is a nice view. Sadly with a new building going up, some of that view will be lost!
D. R.
Solid central London pub, good menu and service (Collin is great). There are a few tables outside.
N. S.
Friendly welcome from staff, within easy reach of Tate Britain. On the downside - expensive drinks.
S. H.
Great find downstairs was busy but upstairs was like an oasis of calm - and the views!!! Great for eating or drinking with a view.
G. W.
Well presented regular boozer. Good for a meet up. Haven't tried the food but the beer did the trick.
M. A.

Lovely old fashioned nook and cranny pub but surprisingly spacious. Excellent food
S. T.
Friendly and warm watering hole. Good selection of beers, videos, wines and spirits. Jokey signs to read all over the place.

A nice place to stop before or after visiting the holy grounds of Tate Britain. Try and ignore the spy allusions (I managed to miss them until after I've read about the place later).

This is a very smart Young's pub on the water slightly off the beaten track. Expect the usual Young's selection of drinks with a couple of of guest cask ales and nothing you haven't already heard of in kegs. Food is on the expensive side …
M. C.
