Reviews of The Northcote
J. M.
Gave it 4 stars as is hard to get served as is always crammed full.
That said the food here is great...consistently which is reassuring, mostly go here for drinks though or to watch the rugby and it remains one of the strongest destinations for all ages to do so.
V. K.
Great spot for a decent pint and grub

Sunday Roast!
Booked a table for two to try the Sunday roast for the first time, we were welcomed by a cheerful member of the staff as a nice start...
We were seated on the first floor, very nice and quiet location.
The food we ordered was amazing, we had
two roast combination (it seems big but worth of it), water and triple cooked chips... delicious!
They are fast as well, I suggest to to order maybe trough their app!
What can I say, the staff is helpful and always smiling making you feel welcomed!
Definitely we'll come back!
C. E.
A surprisingly quiet and cozy little nook, in a big busy town. Didn't try the food THIS time but the ale went down a treat. Great staff. An overall happy experience. Definitely would visit again :)
N. C.
Good pub. Only got beers. Nice ambience, buzz and good friendly service. Dogs allowed! :)
M. G.
Superb atmosphere for a Wednesday - packed full of humans, some of whom smelled decent. Date was okay. Lorry beeped aggressively on the way out.... Bit intimidating.
D. L.
Your menu needs a major redesign. Firstly change the :
1 - Spacing between menu items
2 - Main title of the dish to bold, to seperate it from the sides it comes with.
The Apple and Fig crumble came with no fig.
The custard was cold and the consistency (and I imagine, also the blandness) of baby milk.
This was £6.50 😑
J. W.
A nice pub with a pretty good vibe, most fellow patrons are quite friendly rather than pushy or stuck-up. The staff are also quite friendly and I've had great chats with them. However, the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that they don't have a sizeable selection of in-house mocktails, which is a shame because otherwise The Northcote seems like an awesome place to spend your weekend nights at!
K. S.
We recently visited for both food and drinks, we were looked after by a lovely lady called Ciara. She was both attentive and helpful! We will defintely be returning and she was an asset to the pub/bar, which already had a great vibe to it!
M. F.
It was pretty good but toooo expensive I had one beer and my son had a double white tequila and lemonade and it came to£18.90
K. W.
Plenty of tables outside on the pedestrianised Northcote road. Good beer as expected for a Young's pub! Nice late afternoon pint on a sunny day
M. J.
Just moved into the neighborhood and auditioning potential new locals. I like this one — good burgers (always a necessity) and decent wine selection with some unusual choices. (I love the Slovenian pinot bianco but tonight I am drinking an Argentinian malbec.)
R. T.
Decent and quite standard English pub. Named after the road it is based on.
About a 8min walk from Clapham junction train station.
Not a ton of seating but this does mean if you get a table you are not sitting on top of other people.
Pub is set in a lovely old building at the corner with external seating.
Decent range of drinks and nice gin selection. Drinks are average expensive London prices
G. L.
Good atmosphere, drinks are London prices, food is nice though. Book upstairs if you can.
J. D.
Lovely pub with a spacious garden. Nice selection of ales and lagers too!
M. G.
We arrived here before Anthony Joshua fight with a group on a busy Friday night. We could not get a table until the manager Lee and another member of staff Ciara went out of there way to way to help this. There is a much larger group arriving tomorrow we have told them to make sure to stop in this bar
R. C.
Always a warm welcome, spacious pub, great location, friendly staff!
t. e.
Loved it, amazing staff loving atmosphere and great and delicious food
J. A.
Only had drinks but the service was the friendliest I’ve received for a very long time in London. Despite it being packed they found space for me by the window. Making an effort to make people feel welcome is not something many places bother doing, but it’s always really appreciated when somewhere does it this well. Being able to charge my phone was a real bonus too! ☺️
C. M.
Simply the best pub. Simply the best food. Simply the best staff and simply THE BEST landlady who does everything she can to make your visit to the pub a joy. A pub that is incredibly diverse and caters for everyone. Private function room and secret garden for your private events for hire too.
Well done Tuesday (landlady) for everything and not to mention doing your absolute best in these horrid times.
If you haven’t been to The Northcote e11 then get down there and say hi.
P. J.
What a great afternoon, shame I couldn’t stay for Youngs 190th birthday celebrations. All the staff so attentive, friendly and so welcoming
Will definitely be back
D. I. J. V.
Nice pint of Moretti, normal London prices £6 a pint, not very busy at the bar but had to wait for service which surprised me as the guys were other wise engaged with what seemed like trivia
V. W.
Came tonight to watch the football. Seriously awesome katsu vegan burger, and friendly accommodating service - constantly checking if everyone had drinks and everything they needed. One of the best pubs in Clapham 🙌🏻
M. V.
We have visited couple of weeks ago on a Thursday afternoon around 4pm. It wasn't that busy. There was only one person on the floor serving and one behind the bar. We've ordered only drinks and were waiting probably 10 minutes to be served and then another 10 minutes for the drinks to be delivered
M. K.
We went for a Sunday Roast and it was very disappointing. After waiting for 40min the food was barely warm and the portion was quite small, especially for this price. Can’t recommend to go there for food. Staff however is nice, so for drinking beer it will do the job :)
K. J.
Good pub and good staff !!!
Very decent range of draft beers to choose from,
It is a bit pricey but it is SW11 After all,
Keep up the good work guy's
S. “. Y.
Burger undercooked and food took 30mins to arrive when it was quiet. They allowed us a breakfast even though they had stopped serving and so appreciated that - no apology at late arrival of food. Staff seemed nice enough and venue had a nice atmosphere.
C. P.
Sunday roast was unreal - booking is essential!! Not only were the staff really friendly but also so attentive, one staff member even came over part way through our meal and offered us more gravy which was fab. Food an atmosphere were 10/10 we will definitely be back.
A. G.
Nice Pub, service was very quick for a place so busy as the bar was packed with staff :)
R. M.
Quick service, put the TV and projector on for us when we ask to put the footie on, fry up was decent
p. a.
We came here for dinner on Sunday at 4pm. We were greeted by a lovely lady who accomodated us with a seat outside. The bar was really warm for a place with all the doors open. We were asked if we wanted drinks. Our drinks came. My glass which was a large really wasnt a large in my eyes, what really got me was the lipstick stains all around the glass rim. Totally disgusting. Went inside as no one was coming over and the man literally asked the bar girl for a new glass and poured the wine from one glass to another. Then dinner came. Gravy in a little pot was watery and tasteless. I had the vegetarian option which was really nice bar the gravy. Was also annoyed that my salt grinder was empty. I like a bit of salt on my potatoes, anyway I digress. My daughter had the beef she thought it was lovely. We were then asked to pay as no tabs were allowed outside. We still wanted pudding. We paid for drinks and dinner. We then waited for our pudding. I mean waited... anyway all in all I wanted to leave and have no pudding but Ive had the time to write this and still no pudding as yet.
F. W.
Came here last Saturday to watch the football and had a brilliant time. We were in the function room upstairs and two lads behind the bar were great. All the staff here are lovely.
M. M.
Staff all very friendly. And the Guinness is solid too. Decent boozer
D. T.
Great cocktails and staff a perfect place to enjoy a football match or night out
R. L.
Lively Pub on the corner of Northcote Road with a good range of draft beers on tap. Good for watching Sports too.
O. M.
Fab spot.. Manager Lee was super accommodating with our reservation and moved us to a much vibier part of the bar upon request.. will defo be back
W. L.
My girlfriend and I went for dinner on Sunday evening while COVID-19 social distancing measures remained in place.
The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very respectful of social distancing and government guidance. The pub felt very clean and safe, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal. Staff were careful to minimise handling of plates and glasses when delivering them to the table, and the App allowed easy ordering of said food and drink!
The food was well presented and delicious - with care paid to my request for a gluten-free meal.
I will definitely be returning to The Northcote!
S. B.
Great spot for some post-work catch ups.
Menu is pretty standard for a pub. As for extra gravy with the sausages and mash!
L. S.
Nice pub, friendly staff, quick service, good food for the price.
A. H.
I read a lot online that this pub was boasting to be 'the best in the area'. I was reluctant at first to visit since recently moving to the area. However I have to say this is actually the best pub in the area. The food is fresh and for how busy it was, we did not have to wait that long. The staff are attentive, well presented and look like they actually enjoy working here. I've been here on a Saturday night which had an amazing atmosphere with many ages having a good evening (brilliant tunes). I also took a bunch of friends for some lunch one afternoon and in the day time its warm, inviting and just an all round decent pub. I'm happy to call this my local and will be bringing all my friends and family here again. (Sunday Roast is incredible also)
a.
Good pub with great food with an excellent vegetarian selection. A good choice of beer too. Spacious pub and friendly staff.
A. A.
Thank you to the lovely lady at the door who was able to seat me and my friends despite it being very busy. Was nice and relaxed knowing there was social distancing measures in place and lots of sanitiser around!!
Lovely cocktails and quick service. Will deffo be back here soon!
S. B.
Booked a table for the rugby this afternoon and was very happy with service. Nicky in particular was friendly and went out of way to find me a table, get the rugby on and serve a drink. First time back since Feb due to Covid and good to be back!
M. L.
It's a nice pub, food is pretty good, the waitress was very friendly as well
T. T.
Lovely spacious pub and super friendly attentive staff. They also follow the social distancing guidance and provide lots of hand sanitising station. Good drinks menu. Highly recommend.
A. N.
Brilliant service and the food was amazing. The sausages in the bangers and mash was one of the best I've ever had. Their burger is pretty good too. Quite a trendy place. Make sure to get in early as when I went most of the tables were booked out
j. m.
Nice pub. Even got an upstairs
A. C.
I’ve tried to go here a couple of times but on both occasions it was packed and suffocatingly hot so I found a more comfortable, spacious pub nearby. I guess the fact that it’s busy means it’s popular and people seemed to be enjoying the food so I wouldn’t advise anyone against it. Just not the place to go if you like fresh air!
D. H.
Great pub, cocktails are excellent and the staff were friendly. Really enjoyed having a few drinks in this bar, although doubles are expensive! Enjoyed it so much I went back again the next day for some more pints in the sun! Upstairs is a bit more quiet, so if you're looking for atmosphere stay downstairs and the beer garden at the front is quite small (and also not in the sun)... would recommend this pub for cocktails.
B.
Great place for a light lunch and a drink. Friendly staff, unique decor.
K. G.
Very nice pub to go watch sports. Bartenders are very polite and quick and helpful. One minus is that the smell in the pub is not that pleasurable although I visited it on the hot match day when there were loads sweaty people who were drinking beer and watching world cup. So far I enjoyed it and will consider to come back again! Thanks.
A. q.
Great outdoor area in covid. Good service and food was delicious. I dont think it has the wow factor of 5 stars but certainly a great spot to head too.
R. M.
Came here for dinner, had a burger and a salad with a side of fries.
The salad was great albeit a little over dressed, but very tasty. The burger patty was clearly aiming to be chargrilled however was much closer to charred than grilled and the taste of the meat was lost under the taste of burn. The fries were soggy.
Service was fine! Staff friendly and helpful. Clearly used to a busier bar due to Covid restrictions on distancing.
COVID safety standards were good. Sanitiser provided regularly. Seating only and tables spread out appropriately.
S. G.
Fantastic sharing plates, great atmosphere, friendly staff
J. M.
Just a fantastic Battersea pub. Great crowd, good food, sports, beers, wine and community wrapped up in the atmosphere of discovery and friendship. Excellent. Has my TD rating. TOP DRAWER.
N. M.
Busy pub with good beers
C. P.
The place itself was really nice, I liked the design and the music downstairs was good.
One thing though: the ladies toilet. No sign outside but there's a step inside and I tripped and nearly browned myself as I thought I was gonna end up face down on the floor. Please either get rid of it or put a big sign that even drink people won't be able to miss.
Last note is there weren't enough bartenders so we had to wait quite a lot for anything, they would literally have to walk out and collect dirty glasses, place needs more staff as the place was totally packed and there were two bartenders only alternating!
J. M.
First time to the Northcote for Sunday roast and was a bit disappointed. The roast was fine, about what you'd expect from a pub roast although the Yorkshire pudding was a bit on the crispy side. But when we got to dessert they told us they only had vegan ice cream, and had run out of the crumble. Running out of the crumble is I guess excusable if they were busy but to only stock vegan ice cream is verging on the ridiculous. To add to the problems the menu on the Young's app was different to what they had printed in the pub, the app had both a normal brownie dessert and also something for the vociferous vegans, the in-pub menu was vegan only.
E. A.
Lovely decor, friendly staff, good beer selection, and awesome outdoor section especially when the road is closed. Must be a reason I have been there multiple times.
Y. M.
Nice place for a drink, not that much craft beer variety but otherwise lovely
C. F.
Conveniently located near Clapham Junction, this lovely pub has a great selection of drinks. The food is also very good and well priced, the burgers and fries were lovely. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
B. J.
Good service and great place to meet for a drink but wouldn't recommend the food. Ok but nothing special.
M. n. B.
Lovely pub and the staff are friendly. But the food and food service was really disappointing. Perhaps the chef had a bad day, but our burgers showed a real lack of passion and care. They charge gourmet burger prices, but what you'll get is supermarket fare in a 'brioche' bun.
K. P.
It's an okay place. Depends on what you are looking for. Crowed can be on the young side.
j. A.
A very busy pub that usually isn't worth the scrum at the bar. A perfectly pleasant place to be, and with a good Sunday pub quiz, it should be more desirable but the beer is pricey for what you get, the food isn't great, the loos are all the way upstairs (and they can really stick too - bad drains) and it's just too cramped and full of people. You've got better options nearby.
L. S.
Placed close to the station, other restaurants and bars. Spacious clean and great service. There are two levels downstairs for the drinks and upstairs for food. You have a good selection of beers and outdoor area for smokers. Gets busy in the late afternoons.
P. T.
Good place for a drink in the evening
The place attracts a trendy crowd in the mid 30's.
Prices are quite reasonable.
Double Jack Daniels + pinte of Guiness for 14 pounds.
Haven't tested the food there but would definitely recommend for a late drink
D. S.
Really friendly and warm staff, very clean and with delicious food
D. R.
Standard Clapham Junction pub, standard pints at standard prices. Haven't checked out the menu at all, quiet in the day, can get busy in the evening. Oh yeah, it's has a small outdoor area at the front, on then main road.
This is probably the most useless review you've ever read! Sorry about that. It does speak for the place really though, nothing special to say......neither great nor terrible. It's ok for a quick drink or bite.
H. H.
Nice pub with a good atmosphere. It gets very busy during the weekends and when broadcasting a match on tv. Poor selection of ale and you can wait a long time to be served. A good thing: they will give you a plastic cup to take your drink away before kicking you out when it closes!
V. K.
Beautiful pub with excelent customer service..Nikki and all the staff was so lovely! Highly recommend it!
S. R.
The pub is ok, but i've never had "great" food there. Today's food was an overcooked fish and chips , and a slightly dried out burger.
Not awful, and its always a bubbly atmosphere, but if food is your thing then this isn't the place for you.
a. h.
What a cracking venue. We spent the whole day there on saturday, watching the 6 nations, and long into the night. A proper 12 hour sesh. The beer was great, the staff were fantastic and also gave much appreciated table service!!
B. S.
Ok.Good table service (you pay for it with 'optional' service charge added even to drinks). Ridiculously priced gin and tonic £12!! Should be cheaper and have happy hour on weekdays.
S. B.
Youngs pub ! And a good one
I. P.
I haver been here on a number of occasions and the service is normally very good, however on this particular visit, we were waiting for over 20 minutes for our drinks to be served. The food is always of a high quality, but the choice on menu is quite small. They do have traditional plates included though, Fish and Chips, Sausage and Mash etc. They also have a large selection of beers and ales on tap and also available in bottles. The Northcote is only a 10 minute walk from Clapham Junction train station.
C. T.
This is a absolutely fantastic pub, and had so much going for it. The location is great and just 5 mins from Clapham junction station. Food and drinks are well priced for this part of London, and there is a good selection of beers. On the topic of food I strongly recommend the roast dinners. Great quality of meat and includes all the trimmings. Staff are friendly and atmosphere is very chilled. Also there is a pub quiz on occasionally which is well run and a good laugh
A. H.
First time I'd been back to Clapham in 20 years and it's gone so far up market you need oxygen to breath properly. The Northcote was good tho - still recognisably a pub but light and airy . Nice staff, enjoyed my lunch and a couple of pints, and pleased to see that they will be showing the rugby.
K. D.
Good service. Your basic Urban pub with no fanfare. Fish & Chips was good.
S. S. D.
Being new to the district, a friend and I decided to try Sunday lunch in the pub.
We arrived at 2pm and there was an pleasant atmosphere with a variety of different type tables and seating. We asked a couple at a large table if they minded sharing and they were happy to. The waitress serving us had already taken our drink orders before we sat, so served them to us and took our food order.
There was only one dish that could be considered vegetarian - a mushroom and spinach risotto (not terribly imaginative). My friend had a beefburger & chips and said it was very good.
My risotto was only warm and the rice not completely cooked. Nothing accompanied the risotto, not even for decoration.
The prices were dear. One pint of Guiness, one tomato juice, one beefburger and chips, one risotto = £28 !
I will not be returning to this pub for food.
D. D.
Nice pub, awesome room (the common room bar) upstairs to watch sports. £10+ pounds for a large glass of wine but good quality, bit frustrating paying £2.30 for a lime and soda, but nice pub with friendly bar staff and nice ambience.
M. C.
Wonderful Bar
I guess one could call this a local pub, but no it’s much much more than that.
Great music, superb staff and very friendly door staff😊
The customers always seem to be having a great time and are very well dressed.
So yes it’s a local but a local for nice people 😊
P. G.
I really like the pub deco and the comfy seats. However it is often really busy, so busy that you can't hear yourself speak and it is often a pain to sneak to the bar to have your drinks. The beer selection is not very large.
K. K.
Nice corner pub in great location. A good place for watching sport too.
C. B.
I can’t believe this pub has an average rating of 3.5 stars. I think this is one of the best pubs in South London. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is always good. Definitely 5 stars from me.
r. b.
I drink there in the early eighties the bar was a circle the staff were mostly Aussies. and many's a good night we had and the afters on a Sunday. I live in Ireland now the next time I am over I will call in
K. C.
Love how busy this place gets -they do table service even when it’s super mad result! buzzing always great beers on tap and the staff are friendly recoooomend
S. P.
Nice little pub to drop in on the way home. Impossible to get a seat on the 5 or 6 times I’ve been in during early evening, always seems to be reserved tables so I guess that’s the only way to guarantee you can sit.
E. S.
Cosy little pub with good food and decent drinks selection. Service from the Australian staff member was excellent. Very attentive to the group and anything we needed. Will definitely be back!
S. S.
Another great pub. I went there with a friend previously and it was great for lunch. Not too noisy and they have great food and beer. Another great place with a great choice of beer and wine.
L. K.
I went on a Saturday night :
It was okay. It's always just okay. At times somewhat soulless. Northcote records club is next door.
On the pros side it is always well heated and the seats are comfortable.
On a saturday night Crowded with some pushing/shoving testosterone filled 'lads'.
Possibly because of the rough lads the bouncers are quite on guard / 'us and them' and there is that kind of cattle herding vibe is probably a normal part of a night out but which I find quite annoying.
People were mostly in groups drunk and for the most part seemed excited to be there.
Did ask them to charge a phone behind the bar but the staff became confused and just put it behind the bar without charging it.
Decor is comfortable enough but I definitely wouldn't describe it as a cosy place.
The military gentleman with a pie on his face is a nice touch.
Want to be but are not quite Hugo and Cressida are here perennially
K. M.
Lovely boozer. Only downside is they tried to pass off vegan halloumi as normal halloumi!
It definitely doesn’t say it is vegan on the menu. Not the one on our table at least!
L. B.
A good, fun pub with a local feel. Very popular with the rugby set - they show the games - and the mid 20s on Saturday nights.
J. W.
Pretty much an what you expect these days. Stripped floors, decent range of beers, bit soulless. Had a pint and headed up to the Falcon. Friendly barmaid & quick service.
S. A.
I searched "pubs that play the Chelsea game" and came up with this place. I was disappointed in that respect but that's not their fault. Still stuck around and ordered some food. That was pretty top notch. Nice and warm and delicious.
W. B.
A boringly standard pub in an above average building. Beer selection is on par with any other London pub and the food ranges from decent to passable. Given its prime location I'd have hoped for more but happy to settle for mediocrity!
f. s.
Easy to book, nice food for vegans too lovely pub
A. L.
Great bar if you’re looking for a place to go dancing. Good music and vibe. The decor is very unique, had a nice time.
R. W.
I love this pub. I am disabled so really appreciate there is a disabled toilet for people like me. Food is great. I cant drink as alcohol so am unable to comment on that.
D. S.
Expensive, even for the area. Service good though. Food fancy but noting special. Having said all that, decent pub for the area.
C. H.
Always a firm favourite with locals, especially when the football/rugbys on. Nice place, always busy and you'll never fail to make friends in there.
S. H.
Nice pub and polite staff. Lots of space which seems to be good for groups. Seating outside but close to the busy road. A bit pricy for me.
E. P.
Great pub with great atmosphere near Clapham junction. Always stop there when I have a chance! Prices are quite affordable too.
B. W.
Watched the mighty spurs get a win had some great food and a few pints of perfectly poured gamma ray by Porscha highly recommend xx
N. S.
What an awesome day and great service. Packed pub today yet they still managed table service and my pint was never empty. Niki and colleagues...could not ask for people service (and banter)! Thank you!!
R. M.
Good service from helpful, friendly staff. If you're a football fan, you'll enjoy the atmosphere when a game is being shown live on the screens here.
T. L.
Decent pub with good space downstairs and upstairs. On Sunday evenings they run a pub quiz which - a lot of fun, well organised and prizes on offer! A solid choice if you're in the area.
A.
Decent pub, only issue is the staff and it always has been. Not only are most of the bar staff incompetent / slow, they’re not even useless with a smile.
E. P.
Nice bar. Was quiet. Drinks were good and staff friendly enough. A good place for a drink and a chat.
A. A.
They too put in Estrella and took out Stella so I don't go very much any more. Estrella is an overpriced marginal Spanish beer. If they put Asahi in I would be delighted. Hoping the fad for Estrella will die out immediately.
C. M.
Wow the have mini eggs!! MINNI EGG ALERT!!!!
A. S.
Very crowded place in a Saturday night but very cozy and clean. Nice coctails and friendly staff! Young's pub always on top!
J. M.
Love this pub on a Friday or Saturday night. Great crowd and fantastic tunes. Gets really busy though
D.
Went for a Sunday Roast. Had the 'triple' with pork, chicken and beef. Chicken was average. The pork and beef were tough. Vegetables were of small proportion and luke warm. Good level of service.
A. O.
Just a good pub
Y. L. g.
It is just a place to have a drink or two... not really my thing to be honest... it's always very busy so I guess that's why staff can't have time to be friendly... so it's ok...
K. M.
Absolutely heaving on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Don't expect a seat, event space upstairs is quite good. Drinks are well priced for the area.
s. f.
We popped in for a Sunday Roast and glass of wine, very friendly staff, great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back! Steve
C. A. (.
It was our last lunch in London and it was amazing! Good music, very good ambience and better food and drink. We want to come back... Incredible
M. D.
Fabulous Sunday roast, busy pub so arrive early to avoid disappointment, live games and great beer well worth a visit
L. T.
Pretty crowded (to be expected on Rugby World Cup Final Day) but fun atmosphere and good beer selection.
I. W.
Busy & bland. Doorman in a stab-vest checking punters for blades was a bit of an eye-opener. To clarify, visited on a Saturday night (as the day of the week is the key issue here!)
j. a. g.
I came across this pub a year ago and from the start I felt like it was a very enjoyable place to eat. The service girl was amazing; hope she’s still there.
D. H.
Attended Child Birth course upstairs. Which was fun. Learnt a bit more about vaginas. And nipples leak, apparently. Every toilet bound punter was gawping through the door as teach squeezed a fake baby through a plastic pelvis. They had quality biscuits.
S. J.
This place deserves 6 stars
A. P.
Good selection of ales, very busy for a Wednesday beer, always a good sign. There is additional room upstairs!
n. s.
Great pub with a lovely food selection.
