Reviews of The Old Kings Head
D. W.
Great place, very friendly atmosphere, ample parking. The staff are amazing & the food is Great. No hassles booking, social distancing is adhered to. All in all a wonderful experience. Highly recommend you give this establishment a try, you won't be disappointed...
J. B.
a very cozy pub. great selection of beers and ciders. see friendly staff and very fair prices for Central London. Unreservedly recommended and worth a visit.
W. F.
No frills pub offering a wide range of beers including Austell Ales. We chose it because there was somewhere to sit inside and no music. Good value too with two pints for less than £8
S. M.
Great, traditional old pub in a cobblestone alley literally next door to LB Station. Good selection of beers and prices are what you might expect in London. Good atmosphere, toilets could do with modernisation and don't ask the landlord if he's an aussie (he's a kiwi). He and his staff are top drawer and make you feel very welcome. 😊🍻🍻🍻
J. W.
"Proper" London boozer tucked in an alleyway behind London Bridge station. Good range of beers reasonable prices (£4 a pint for Estrella in happy hour) friendly, fast service full of locals rather than city workers who dominate the other bars in the area. Loved it.
j. c.
Quick lunchtime pint on a Saturday turned into a few. Lovely to see a pub keep its old character. Excellent staff,I will call back again.
E. V.
I went on a Friday evening expecting a local, buzzing but old fashioned pub and it felt more like a bar as there was a DJ. The people did seem nice, it simply wasn’t the kind of place advertised and wasn’t what we were looking for.
D. S.
Good beer selection, all well kept. Popular with sports fans ( especially football), with 4 tvs showing various matches.
Can get very loud and busy on match days.
S. D.
Good boozer. £4 pints in happy hour (5-7) and that only goes up to £5 for a pint of Stella outside of happy hour, so very reasonable prices.
D. T.
A great pub, tucked down a little side street (the best ones always are). A proper old 'boozer' great beer and people. Staff are lovely. This place feels like a family front room, not fancy but we'll worth a visit, please do!
r. h.
Every time I'm in London this pub is top of my list to visit . One of most friendly places I've been too . Great beer also
J. G.
Quality old school boozer with unbelievable prices to match. If you're ever in the area of London Bridge/Borough Market then this is the place to get your refreshments. Got a Camden Pale Ale for £3.75 a pint... How do you they do it?? You'd expect to pay £5.50 anywhere else!
M. W.
Good traditional style pub, very good service good priced food&drinks
P. Y.
Sampled 2 real ales & both cellar-kept very well. Traditional style London pub.
Homely.
Staff could have been friendlier!
N. S.
Lovely setting plenty of interesting items hanging from the ceiling good people +also serve oriental. Thai food thumbs up 👍
T. G.
Awesome pub in London Bridge. Warm, welcoming and playing sports on both teles, including the Rugby. Brought a tear to a homesick kiwis eye.
B. R.
Good venue for watching the football..
Great performance by Everton at Old Trafford..
Had to settle for a point but cudda had all three...
V. W.
Quaint and quirky, most importantly, they serve Amstel. Stones throw from London Bridge underground station...
J.
Nice pub just off the main road. Reasonable prices. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice drinking area in the lane outside the pub.
B. W.
Great atmosphere and superb real ale. Staff super friendly and service is always excellent.
H. y. S.
Traditional pub with good vibes and a great location. Screens are a bit small though so good spaces are at a premium
R. G.
Great old fashion British booZer just located off the main Street down the lane.
Reasonablelypriced and the usual drinks....a bit of an old mans bar but very likeable!!!!
B. P.
Off the path and locals only...but friendly. No food service just good ale and ambiance.
S. B.
Great little pub , right near Borough Market, staff gorgeous 😍
T. K.
it ,a good
old pub and good food and good service the best pub in london
S. P.
Nice old pub in side road of London. Wooden floorboards & happy hour. Didn't feel particularly welcome as visitors to the City.
A. B.
We needed a place to pass the time whilst our daughter attended an appointment at Guys Hospital, we were not permitted to enter. The bar was at capacity due to Covid social distancing so we were directed to the function room upstairs. It doesn't have a great atmosphere however it wasn't designed as a bar, it's a function room that they use to accommodate extra clients and good on them! The alternative was a wait in the cold or the expensive Borough Market. We ordered a bottle of the house red and it was easy on the palate and great value for money. We visit the hospital several times a year, and this is definitely where we will spend our waiting time. What a great pub 🙂
s. u.
Not a bad pub, been there few times and the drinks are cheap so I definitely recommend it
S. W.
Great local boozer. Honest, no nonsense, non homegenised pub. Beers well kept and reasonably priced!
D. M.
Nice pub located in a beautiful part of town with a good mix of people and music the staff are also very friendly.
w. t.
Cosy place, friendly staff, nice atmosphere but really noisy after 5pm. All I like its location in a small alley at London Bridge.
D. L.
Down a little side street next to London Bridge Station. No queues and were able to walk in. Manager gave us a nice table by the window. Staff very friendly. Will go again.
A. C.
Classic, excellent old style after work London pub where everyone descends on the outside area for standing. Ideal for drinking on a warm evening, and the inside area is also pretty big so plenty of room available. Decent range of beers too. And within running distance of London bridge station
A. B.
Great place around London Bridge for a pint
E. M.
This was my first time of calling in here and I am glad that I did as I like discovering some of the many 'old pubs' around town. I would sum this one up as a great old fashioned inn with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. i was there early evening and it was inevitably busy with local workers stopping off for a drink. The range of beers is excellent and the menu looked very inviting and reasonably priced. It is a bit 'off the beaten track' for tourists but is well worth walking that extra few minutes from London Bridge to locate it.
K. M.
Traditional no nonsense pub, with well kept ales, wines and lagers. Very friendly and efficient staff.
M. P.
A very handy pub for meeting people. Quiet alley street outside means lots of people standing around, with a few chairs. Happy hour prices mean it's worth getting there early and getting a few in before the prices go up. Usually a few decent beers and ciders on.
B. R. W.
Great pub, great staff. They've been serving the staff of Guys for years. Vital part of keeping this part of the NHS going.
C.
Great little pub. Good prices.
J. M.
Great old pub hidden down an alley Metres from London Bridge
P. K.
Great pub to have a beer
K. M.
An old beautiful place, great beer, good people
v. o.
Quaint little pub, staff friendly, tables cleared quickly.
D. C.
Nice cosy pub. Prices are what you would expect to pay in London. Friendly staff, it was busy but still enough room and not long waiting times at the bar. Show sports on tv.
A. G.
1st visit to this pub which was a very nice traditional pub with a good choice of reasonably priced real ales compared to other nearby pubs. We were too early for the happy hour offers which looked to be excellent value. Did not try the food but will on my next visit. The pub is very handy for London Bridge station. Recommend a visit if you like a proper old style pub atmosphere.
C. B.
A single room pub, just off Borough High Street. I went with a friend on Friday evening around 6:30 and it was very busy. No seats, just standing room. It feels like a bit of a find when you walk down the small yard off the high street, but inside it has a nice buzz. I'd say mostly local office workers, all having a nice time.
A surprisingly large choice of draft beers was available. I had a 2 pints of a Cornish bitter, very nicely kept and served. There's also a happy hour Monday to Thursday. The bar itself looks a bit shabby, but certainly not unpleasant, just comfortable. A definite change (and for the better) of typical mass chains in the area serving in sterile drinking halls.
Large TV screens were present, the crowd mostly male. Bar staff quick and friendly. I'd very happily go back again.
D. K.
Randomly dropped in on a Sunday lunchtime, glad we did.
Nothing fancy but a solid plate of food, and good beer.
G. B.
Proper Old School boozer, not many left like this anymore.
i. m.
A great local pub tucked down a little alley off Borough high street.Usually crowded with locals and commuters alike, but great atmosphere with friendly staff. Prices very reasonable compared to the Borough Market area just over the road. Great for watching sports on big TVs.
n. p.
Friendly, down to earth pub. Its almost like a village pub in the centre of London! Traditional food and well kept ales, Guinness and lager at reasonable prices.
Service is quick and friendly and all sports are accomodated on the many screens.
Huge function room upstairs.
Has a bit of spit and sawdust feel to it, definitely not posh. Love it!
S. A.
A couple of drinks catching up with a friend, had a really nice time. Cosy pub nice decor, friendly staff.
B. W.
This one is a very down to earth pub, quite old fashioned. We popped in for a few drinks on a Saturday afternoon. The staff was very nice and accommodating, helping us to set up a table for six people.
Unfortunately there were two football matches on at the time, so it got extremely noisy with people crowding around our tables. I guess that one is down to bad timing on our part.
We didn't have any food, so I can't comment on that.
m. m. c.
Great pub! Been going there for years. Excellent selection of drinks, very reasonably priced ( for London ), and a nice mix of clientele. TVs on but subtitled...and the music is not obtrusive. What's not to like?
D. A.
Great folks working there, friendly and told me a lot about the area. Very neat place to spend some time.
M. E.
Quite a simple old pub with some of the best kept ales I’ve had. Great choice of drinks and shows loads of live football on the screens. Great prices for anywhere in London, let alone so central
S. W.
Nice pub, tucked down a little side street off the nain drag, well worth a visit.
A. G.
Little hidden gem of a pub close to the Borough Market exit for the Jubilee Line. Make sure you take the exit across the street from the one for the Market and look up for the pub sign hanging over the archway leading to a cobblestoned alley.
Our German language Meetup group has been meeting there for years now and they have always been friendlier and more helpful than many other venues.
G. D. W.
Only had a quick sunset pint here, but friendly people and nice atmosphere. Only four or so seats outside though. Good IPA but not the cheapest.
R. R.
10/01/19.
Very - Very - busy - oldie worldy pub - very super efficient bar staff who knew which customers were waiting to be served next (especially the spectacle wearing ladies).
Definitely recommend the pub, l have used the pub on a number of occasions & also the food looked very appetising plus they have a vibrate mix of customers.
Well worth a visit or two or more.
A. P.
One of the last of the proper locals in the orbit of Borough Market.. Very low key venue with efficient staff and reasonable prices. Recommend for some post work drinking but can get pretty busy most nights so knock off early if possible.
A. M.
No nonsense pub. Good and prompt service, can sit inside or stand outside, and fully prepped for life in the Covid world. It's tucked away location is a bonus, off the beaten track.
a. d.
Lovely old fashioned pub elegant decor with lots of quirky antiquities on the walls.
Nice selection of beers and outside smoking area.
I landed on my feet here was short of the £5 minimum for cards no bother £4.80 was fine.
Forgot to mention great background music CDs of pleasant baladic songs with words- a concept unheard of elsewhere.
Anyways only fair I enjoy the pleasant almosphere for a bit longer so I trotted up for another 'proper job' hit the £5 mark with some peanuts and the generosity and friendliness knows no limits here, a function upstairs didn't touch their magnificent gourmet oriental buffet grill up, so help myself all laid out on the bar.
Nice to be nice but real genuine lovely people here, 100% recommended,
oh and they have a function room with pool table and darts upstairs and do a decent spread
J. V.
Decent selection of beer. Furniture looks aged and not in a good way. Worst part of all is watching football on televisions with mediocre picture quality. It’s 2019 - all TVs should be in HD or better. Good vibe of people.
V. J.
The service was good and the staff were very nice
D. L.
Friendly staff. Good service.
Welcoming.
Lovely well priced drinks.
Recommended.
M. M.
I have been coming here on and off for about 5 years, what can I say it’s brilliant. Good food; a great vibe and friendly staff. And old mans pub with cheap drinks and a place to sit. I love it here. This might be my favourite place in London.
S. R.
Traditional pub with function room. Tends to get busy when live sports are on. The upstairs function room is cosy but can be a bit hard to find if you’ve not been there before. Good pub kitchen with a generous pub menu that serves into the evening.
M. L.
A really good traditional London pub with a great atmosphere, excellent food and a large range of beers and ciders. It's conveniently located just off Borough high street, close to Borough market and lots of other bars and restaurants. If you're in this part of London, it's an absolute must.
S. H.
Rammed to the rafters for the football / rugby showing on various screens. Drinks were good quality, reasonably priced and service was quick and friendly. Great boozer just off the main road.
R. P.
A great London pub in the Borough market area. Down a side street. This is one of the untouched pubs that still have that timeless appeal. Lots of this sort of pubs are now dead in Maidstone where I live which is a real pity. This pub really hit the spot in my eyes and a group of us enjoyed a few hours down town here. The drinks where tasty and the service was polite and very quick. There was even a few hours happy hour which was welcomed on this rather warm day 15th May 2018. Well done to landlord and the staff here for making our day out that more interesting........
p. m.
A proper well run pub, great staff, great service and excellent beer. Not local to me as I live in North London, but well worth the journey.
D. P.
3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the beer, 5 stars for the service. We ducked in on tired feet and the staff was awesome. Burger, pizza, just ok. Beer selection is solid. It was comfy and perfect for what we needed with a cool history and story to boot.
J. R.
The beer is good, with a few ales on tap. Unlike most of the places in and around Borough Market, it is unpretentious and very cheap. I work locally and personally love this place, though I can see why others would think it's an absolute hole.
J. F.
Proper British boozer. Good selection of ales and lagers. Not crazy expensive. Often have happy hours. Never seen any trouble. Staff decent and friendly enough. All in all not a bad night out.
J. S.
Proper pub that does what it should at the right prices. Quality, professional bar staff that know how to run a busy boozer. Barman Chris is a gent. Would be 5 stars if the loos were a bit better.
B. W.
Great pub long serving the NHS staff from nearby Guys.
M. T.
Pub in a good location showing a lot of sport on the big screens. The pub could do with a bit of a makeover and needs a good clean. The pint was ok but no more and it's not somewhere I'll be rushing back to, especially with so many other options to choose from in the same area
N. R.
A traditional pub in the heart of the city.
J. C.
Full disclosure: I've never had a real English breakfast before this, I didn't have breakfast and it was past noon, but the all day breakfast was solid, tasty, everything was perfectly cooked, didn't know that sausage skin could be crisp, and best of all it was not greasy at all. It was served really hot too. Yum.
L. W.
Like this place. It's out the way (down a side street) and while it's busy it's not as bad as other places can be during football matches. Everyone stands in here during games which works really well and adds to the atmosphere. Tvs are all wall mounted so you can always see the action. Some nice ales. Average London drink prices. It's an old fashioned London boozer with lots of character. Recommend!
J. G.
Classic pub.
M. F.
Quality proper London pub.
L. W.
Decent pub with 3 real ales on when I visited
j. r.
A lovely pub to have a few beers
P. W.
Nice & handy for a quick one being so close to the tube & railway stations!!
A. K.
Local pub with low prices. The food is really basic but OK for the price you pay. Staff is friendly and I assume most of the guests are regulars. The pub can be noisy, especially when there is a football match on the TV.
A. M.
Wonderful traditional pub in the heart of the borough. Reasonable prices, good food and friendly staff. A must go to if you like a real English pub in the heart of London
j. d.
Fantastic selection of beers both bottled and on draught. Really friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Lunchtime food is also great value for money.
M. S.
Good traditional pub
J. D.
A popular place for locals. They open the windows for watching the game and are open most of the night. Pub grub's average, nothing to report. And the company is jovial. Never seen a fight yet on my way past. Usually a mix of folk there, all having a nice time.
A. G.
It's an OK place, It's off the High St, down an alleyway. Busy but not too busy and a few screens mounted high showing different football matches (at least whilst I was there) which adds to the atmosphere as it offers that bit more viewing. Good choice of beers and normal London prices. It probably needs a décor refresh but it's still OK and has character.
C. B.
Properly run Londo pub of Bourough High Street..Rea Ales verty well kept and reasonably priced..discounted between 4 pm & 7pm staff brilliant and helpful.. upstairs dining room and good food ..worth a visit any time been using it myself for donkeys tonks
D. R. L.
The Old King's head is a very very decent pub, looks kinda worn, but it is superb where it matters, it's got a great selection of beer, and delicious pub food. There is a minimum of five pounds on the card transactions. They have a fantastic space for private events on the first floor.
Definitely recommended for watching football on matchdays.
J. K.
Good spot for a few beers with friends. Staff very welcoming.
P.
A round was almost £3.00 cheaper for a pint and a bottle of well known lager than the Old George Inn next door. The toilets in here could do with a bit of an upgrade, unless they are listed..
A. L.
Perfect location, after good lunch one quick pint at Old Kings is always good 👍
L. S.
Lovely old style pub, drinks are very reasonably priced given the location and the bar staff give you service with a smile, what more could you ask for really? Will definitely be popping in again at some point
D. S.
Nice little pub down a side turning of , of borough high street.not far from the borough and London bridge stations. Short walk to the shard , plenty of cafés and restaurants to choose from, and you have borough market a short distance away and quite close the Thames
A.
A solid, old fashioned pub without any booths or whatnot, a decent ale selection for decent prices, and a friendly staff. Just keep in mind the 5 pound card minimum.
P. W.
Would give 10 stars to this pub.the bar staff are outstanding.they have a happy hour during the week.and by the way the beer ant bad
R. P.
Typical old London pub. Not flash, a little shabby but all the better for it. The clientele and staff very friendly and welcoming. The beer was good and the chips.
D. B.
Decent enough pub, shows the sport. Good atmosphere, has a traditional pub looking decor. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable.
j. k.
Very traditional pub, all locals in there. Very fair prices
D. O.
Love this lovely little back street pub. It is properly old school. The beer is always good and the food is great value too. They even have a happy hour too!
L. E.
Good pub!
Good people behind the bar!
First time in London, and so far the best pub in England!
See you the next time I'm round!
T. E.
Affable old-fashioned boozer and a welcome break from the gussied-up pubs around Borough. It's worth the effort to check out the marvellous frontage which you can't really appreciate thanks to the narrow lane.
J. M.
Proper old traditional London pub. Fantastic atmosphere great and friendly bar staff. If you want to experience local tradition this is the place to come to
D. B.
A friendly local pub on the edge of the City. Cheapish beer and wine with food at lunchtime.
M. C.
Excellent bar staff friendly and service with a smile x
D. M.
Good British pub reasonable prices on food and drink, happy hour 4 - 7pm Monday to Thursday with friendly atmosphere
J. M.
Lovely pub. Good beers. Friendly staff. Has history
A. S.
Very friendly helpful staff. Good beer!
R. C.
Proper old school pub. No pretentions to be anything else. Decent selection of ales and friendly bar staff.
S. D.
I like this pub, it's an old school boozer with a decent selection of real ales and some sports on the telly, it tends not to be quite as packed as some of the other pubs in the area so you can normally find somewhere to sit or perch, I wish I had not put £15 in the fruit machine.
A. E.
Friendly staff, good beer quality and price not bad. Background music ruins an otherwise perfectly fine pub.
R. A. G.
Unspoiled pub with time specific drinks promotions. Can be rowdy in the evenings - well worth a visit.
Big screens inside, cobbled lane outside. 🐎
S. N.
Good no nonsense/flash pub for football although screens aren't great quality. Also £5 minimum on cars which results in eating a lot of twiglets...
A. P.
Greg and staff did an absolutely brilliant job on Sunday when we arrived for our son Jason's memorial game at Millwall. Many thanks on behalf of all his family and his many friends X
A. J.
Proper boozer, great atmosphere
r. h.
Great little pub tucked away, very friendly staff made me and my partner feel like regulars keep up the good work
B.
Good old-fashioned pub, bit tatty round the edges which in this case is perfect. Good selection of ales and interesting decorated scenes of old London Bridge.
D. A.
Small traditional London pub hidden away in a back street. Standard beers but always a friendly smile and a seat when I have been during weekday daytimes.
P. K.
Great pub
R. T.
The Old King's Head is a great, traditional pub, just off Borough High Street. Their Guinness is consistently very good.
N. D.
Does a very good happy hour(s)
Extremely affordable and a very busy cobbled lane to the front.
On my Central London pub crawl list
k. H.
Perfectly fine sunday roast we had there! It was not only delicious, but we also got it at rather the late hour and also it was absolutely affordable :)
T. J. v. R.
A quaint pub down a small side street in the centre of Southwark. The owners and staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. An old school pub for some good times and conversations.
C. O.
Love the place and its grumpy old landlord 👍
M. J.
Lovely staff, local feel. All the opposites of Borough Market
W. M.
Large lively pub with good selection of beers. Also does food. Popular venue for after work drinks.
T. S.
Top boozer, just off Borough High Street. Lots of medics from Guy's and Tommy's. Can morph into a Millwall pub on match days.
R. N.
Nice pub good service, good selection of drinks, worth a visit
M. J.
Proper old pub in a Dickension style.
Good ales and no sign of Hogarth.
Downpoint though is not the pub, it's the Bankers.
M. G.
Good selection of beers. Small and gets really crowded on the weekends but has a great spirit.
G.
One of my favourite pubs in London, great atmosphere and friendly staff.
J. D.
Nice old pub. With a great little alleyway to drink outside on. Good general atmosphere.
A.
Just visiting, found lager a bit flat but drinkable. Served quickly but with a smile. Will visit again.
C. G.
Seemed like a good pub. Barman very friendly and welcoming despite the late hour.
J. S.
Proper old London boozer. Ridiculously cheap prices during happy hour. Good spot to watch sport.

Good old-fashioned boozer. Busy and noisy but good prices, especially happy hour 4-7pm.

Quite pleased with the overall service, qaulity and price. I'd go back anytime for a proper breakfast! And a pint!
