Reviews of The Pig and Butcher

This place is by far the best place to eat on Liverpool Road/Upper Street area. The menu is always current and offers a wide variety of interesting food; which is just exceptional. We were so excited and keen to dive in we forgot to take pictures before and so all I have are our empty plates and half eaten food (having just remembered to take the photo) - sorry. You have to visit here!!

So although this place has been on my to go to list since I moved to Angel, I hadn’t yet gotten around to visiting. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food and super friendly staff. All the food is sourced locally and there’s a variety of options to choose from. I had the pig’s head to start, deer for main and the chocolate pudding to finish, accompanied by a beautiful bottle of red wine. The wine list is particularly descriptive with many many wines to choice from. 5 stars all round! I’m looking forward to visiting again, especially to try their roast dinner!

It was not too bad I must say. The food was decent and the environment relaxed. That said, the service was too slow and the dessert came after 1 hour waiting. I would go back for some beer and of course the duck which was indeed amazing. The desserts were super tasty as well. They are always good with desserts.

Loved the Pig and Butcher! I booked the table weeks ago and it was worth the wait.
The atmosphere was great, cosy lighting, and exceptional food and great drinks list.
We went as a group of 6 and all agreed it was the best Roast we have had in London! All roasts come with sides incl a huge Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, roast potatoes, and cheesy cauliflower (a must). The pork roast was incredible, the best I have ever tasted, the beef roast (served pink) was tender and full of flavour, the lamb (for 2) literally fell off the bone.
Truly full of flavour at every turn, and the starters & bread are not to be missed!
I would love to return and order the desserts but we simply did not have room on this visit! Highly recommend- I can’t wait to be back!

Great gastro pub in Islington. Firstly, would like to complement the team for charging you £1 per slice of bread rather than per portion. Gives you the liberty to buy as many as you want!
Slight poor on vegetarian choices (yet I acknowledge it’s called pig and butcher!!) but good effort on what’s available. The cauliflower dish was well balanced with a good tahini sauce but slighted over cooked cauliflower.
Good selection of sides - particularly enjoyed the seaweed sauce coated potatoes that provided an alternative to your basic alternatives. Don’t imagine it suits everyone’s pallet but keep an open mind.
Service was a bit slow but great effort on sustainability - cloth napkins and well sized portions to avoid waste. Do not try to sell you filtered water from the get go.

Nice atmosphere but I think we came on an off day although not particularly busy. We ordered four sirloin steaks. Nice meat, but a little overdone and came out very fast whilst we were still eating the starter. We had one order of rare which came medium, and medium-well which came out well done. Dessert wines were excellent.
Dogs are allowed, which is nice too.

Very generous portions, staff very friendly! they seated us even though I booked for 2 and we were 3 (there was a miscomunication via call). Warm chocolate pudding very tasty. Very soft lamb leg roast, but I'd go for the sirloin. Good beer choice! Unfortunately you need to book months ahead, but it's worth it!

This place is outstanding - relaxed and attentive service and wonderful food. Bread and dripping as a snack at the beginning of a meal is a must, so simple but absolutely perfect.
