Reviews of The Plough
w. t.
Great location, nice food and attentive staff. Very neat & clean and feel fresh inside. Not too expensive for the location, and the portion size is good. Like fish & chips. Drinks r ok most of cask variety but I like craft beers. Lovely warm welcome atmosphere. Good vibes.
J. P.
Conveniently situated for the museums, the Plough offers a typically warm pub welcome to customers. As pub grub goes, it offers nice, if unspectacular, dishes at reasonable prices. My girlfriend got a side of pickled onions with her fish n chips. That was as edgy and disruptive as their dishes got.
M. T.
Nice pub in Central with good food, good beer, nice staff and big screens to watch the football, what more could you ask for!! Was looking for a pub to have a beer and watch the game had some food because we saw some going to another table and it looked great, really glad we did because it was amazing. Also Man City beating Arsenal 5-0 helped
L. G. S.
Great food and attentive staff. Inside of the building it is very clean and freshly done. Not too expensive for the location, and the portion size is good.
S. F.
A cracking little 'local' with great atmosphere. I can recommend the fish & chips, too. Staff are friendly, and there's no shortage of beers/ciders. Highly recommend The Plough for an informal drink with friends or family.
S. W.
Visited the Plough on Saturday, we’d been to the British Museum and booked for lunch. I would recommend booking at busy times as it began to catch a crowd whilst we were there at 12.30.
Staff were lovely and friendly and pub itself is beautiful. What a gorgeous place.
The food was tasty, fresh, hot and such a reasonably priced especially for London!!!
Thank you so much, we’ll be back very soon!
A.
Decent pub short walk from the British Museum. Good to stop in for a pint after a long day walking.
Sport is played on a big TV, and some old chaps were eating your stereotypical pub grub.
London prices as expected, so don't expect a big night out to be cheap
B. B.
Popped in for a couple of drinks after visiting the museum nearby.
The staff were excellent, really helpful and friendly.
It's not the cheapest pint in London and we didn't have food. But the table next to us had what looked like really good fish and chips, they ate it all anyway.
Would visit again.
J. W.
This is my favourite pub in London, hands down. What makes it so are the staff. They are always attentive and quick but more than anything else they are so friendly!! Lovely, lovely people. The good food (with a new menu) and wide selection of drinks are just the cherry
R.
Spent a couple of hours in here watching the football before going to the theatre. Beer and food good. Staff friendly and attentive, just the sort of place I was looking for!
G. S.
Lovely little pub, friendly stuff, accommodate everybody's needs (to use there stuffs personal chargers lol)... They got my food order wrong, how ever I didn't mind... But still gave us a free round... As a good gesture... Must try they food, if you like old English pub food. lovely... Will go back again... Ps they do really nice guinness...
L. J.
Visited at lunchtime and it was quiet. Good service, great selection of pub grub. Toilet was clean.
D. T.
An enjoyable Victorian local pub with the front bar and what may be referred to as a snug. Beer was good and the staff friendly. Not quite so sure about the music. Still a perfectly enjoyable time was had, this pub is close to the British Museum so enjoys quite a footfall from its visitors. However, there is plenty of space and you can also sit outside, all makes for a pleasant atmosphere.
S. L.
Always a great spot to have lunch in town before heading to some exhibitions at the British Museum. Location is just perfect, the team is always welcoming you with a lovely smile even behind the mask. Great selection of food for a quick bite or a proper relaxing meal. Looking forward to visit them soon again!
G. L.
Popped in after a visit to the museum and Gemma was a wonderful Lady very friendly and welcoming, food and drinks were excellent value and a real cosy pub with candle light!
M. H.
Opted for the lasagne as my first choice meal was unavailable
So glad as it was possibly the tastiest lasagne I've ever had - really rich in flavour
Absolutely delicious 😋
My daughter had the fish and chips and it was a decent portion
Highly recommended 👌
T. M.
Solid pint and pub lunch after a British Museum trip. We had other plans for lunch but it started raining so we dived in here and had a very nice time.
A. H.
Sky Sports on big TV showing the cricket. What more could I want? Beer is fine, not exceptional but good enough.
G. E.
Came for dessert after a meal out. It was excellent, as was the service!
J. N.
Nice pint of St Austells Tribute. Food was very good. Staff very helpful and friendly.
M. M.
Amazing pie and a good place to drink a cider
L. F.
Excellent Kronenbourg, well priced for this part of town. Sure it was under £6… however was a little sloshed!
The Irish lady who served me was the icing on the cake, great service.
P. W.
Lovely old fashioned pub.
Great service and reasonably priced for a London pub
P. M.
Great traditional pub very close to the museum. Nice chilled atmosphere and prices were what you would expect for the location. The new and improved food menu didn't disappoint either, will definitely be going back!
D. P.
Good traditional London pub good beer and good food and a great atmosphere
P. D.
Great atmosphere and the food looked good.
B. C.
Nice little pub tucked away, surprised how easy it was to get a seat given how close to the British Museum the place is. Didn't eat, but very fast service and typical range of beers
L. S.
Good pub for watching the six nations. I did not eat here but they had a good selection of beers.
L. C.
Sat outside nice wine ordered on App. Only downside table hadn't been cleared from before us.
J. K.
A lovely pub very close to The British Museum , with at least three real pumps .. With what looked like fantastic food , I will be back soon to sample it myself ..
d.
A very pleasant, clean and bright pub. Great beer and lovely staff.
R. Y.
Great pub with an awesome atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the manager is amazing! I love drinking here and I come back whenever I can.
J. T.
Staff are always very kind and welcoming. The food is amazing and they have good selection of beers as well. I was there with few more people last week and we had to pay separately (I know it is absolute pain to do it this way, but it was unavoidable this time) but the staff were so nice and understanding. I have been a regular customer as work close by and can definitely say-this place never disappoints!
D. P.
Pleasantly surprised with the pub, loved having a drink here
I. B.
Beer was fine but need to do better with the nachos. Not enough cheese and almost cold.....what cheese there was wasn't melted.
C. A.
Awesome pub, came here with my friends the other night and had an absolute blast. Staff are friendly, atmosphere is nice - will definitely come again!
C. B.
Today I went to The Plough with 2 groups of adults with learning disabilities. I booked in advance and the staff were so helpful and suggested we could have the upstairs room. From the moment we arrived they were warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious!! Thank you to you all
J. M.
Great service. Lovely food.
J. G.
Truly wonderful and historic pub. Great character and history with very friendly staff and a fantastic selection of drinks and excellent food menu.
S. G.
This is a beautiful little historic pub. It has a very cozy and warm atmosphere. The wooden interior is a work of art. The bar staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of their craft. The have a nice selection of beer and traditional English ale. I sampled a few of them while I was there and found them quite agreeable. The steak and ale pie was cooked to perfection and delicious to boot. I would highly recommend stopping off here for a pint and a bite!
r. r.
Very friendly pub, very proud & clean pub, I recommend anybody drink in this pub👍😄👌
C. M.
Had a great night of beers in this place. Brilliant location, staff all really friendly and the place was clean and covid safe.
P. B.
This was perfect venue for families and all ages. Friendly and helpful staff, delicious food plus able to watch Olympics !
V. C.
Lovely staff, pub decor as you would expect from a London pub. Food portions a little small if you have a large appetite.
R. B.
Nice fun place. Loved the talent musicians night. Pub food is all right.
J. G.
Sitting here currently on vacation with my wife, 9yo daughter and mother in law. Good beer selection, even if 3/4 of the local ales were tapped out. Good was good. Three of us had the fish and chips. Definitely recommend the large as you get curry to go with the chips (awesome!!!). Sausage and mash was mostly good, but wife didn't like the mash as it tasted like instant. Really close proximity to British Museum. Would definitely come again.
E. G.
Great pub food at a decent price. Lovely service and environment inside and out
R. C.
I got in and I have to say the experience was amazing.. great food, great beers and the people working there was very friendly they made us feel so welcome ...
Y. E. (. P.
Popped in for a quick shandy after visiting the British museum but decided to stay for lunch. Service friendly and quick. My friend ordered sausages and mash and I ordered chicken tikka. Food arrived promptly and was hot. Loved the atmosphere in the pub but one criticism was the awful rap music
J. K.
Fantastic service! Barman advised on the different beers on tap. Chief went out of his way to ensure our meal was exactly what we wanted, even came to double check ingredients with us. What a pleasant experience!!
R. R.
Nice old pub with friendly atmosphere but can get quite busy and packed out. Very good location with lots of other places nearby. Price of a pint is a bit steep but I suppose you’re paying for the atmosphere as well
M. P.
Great pub. Helped make room for my brother in his wheelchair as there were a lot of people dining and space was at a premium. Reasonable priced for food in this part of London. Great service, will definitely come again.
J. L.
This is a very good pub, very close to the British Museum. Excellent choice of drinks and great service. The food is really good and lots of it! Great value for money. The toasted sandwiches were delicious!
J. C.
The salted beef burger was excellent - I would come back for that alone... The "chips" (french fries) were good as well (and gluten free). Service could have been a little better. My friends who had the batter-fried fish and onion rings said they were just ok.
L. C.
This pub has a traditional look and appeal. Centred near the London Museum. It is a spot to visit for social engagements and watching sport. They also often host beer and gin festivals for a wider selection of named beverages. The staff are friendly and there seems to often one new staff member being trained when you visit.
Like most central London venues, seating can be hard to find on busy nights and during events. However, this is a traditional experience at reasonable prices for London for an evening out.
K. R.
Delicious fish and chips as well as meat pies. The Plough came highly recommended from some folks that lived here for years, and it didn't disappoint. In our short one week here, we ate there 4 times, once for lunch and the rest for dinner. Great staff and terrific food.
K. T.
Loved it...very friendly staff.lovely food. Definitely recommend it.
f. s.
This pub is near the hotel we've been several times. Local folks own and run it and most of the patrons are from the neighborhood. Love this place and enjoy the staff and patrons. Very friendly. We always go to drink beer but have ordered the F&C several times and always good.Always meet someone interesting. Can't wait to get back to London and this great neighborhood pub!
J. M.
Great traditional pub with fair prices, good selection of food and drink and friendly staff!
C. L.
Our favourite haunt where the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Really decent pub in a great location, close to both the British Museum and Tottenham Court Road. Perfect for both tourists and locals.
M. D.
Lovely little traditional style pub. Great selection of beers and spirits.
I didn't try the food myself, but several friends did and it looked pretty tasty pub food.
The toilets could have done with being cleaned and an bit better maintained. That's the only thing that kept me giving this place 5 stars.
No minimum payment on cards.
L. W.
Using it as the local while working in the area. Considering its proximity to the British Museum still a great boozer with a decent atmosphere all week. Pints are not cheap but then this is central London. Really enjoy the real ales particular the Tribute, an old favourite of mine. Oh and the flowers in the hanging baskets are pretty nice as well.
B. C.
I can't state enough just how welcoming and Covid safe I felt visiting this pub last week. (my first visit)....there on the 30th July, staff were friendly and ALL were wearing masks and sheilds too. The tables were clearly cleaned in between customers. With notices stating that it was sanitised and ready to use. Social distancing was strictly adhered to by all staff. Toilets were immaculate. I've been to a few places since and no where else has taken so much effort to maintain such high levels of safety.
Thanks guys, I know it must be so difficult, and it's so much extra work for you all... but well done, we shall certainly visit again soon.
R. L.
Very good food and great service. I will definitely come here again if I'm in the area!
D. H.
We've started using this pub at lunch times and it isn't bad at all. The staff are friendly enough and they have a good selection of ales, lager and wines. Had food a few months ago- its your regular pub grub but wasn't anything fancy. I do like the mix of museum goers and local office workers in here. Good boozer.
N. M.
Definitely worth a visit. Good food.
Friendly staff...
L. P.
This is probably a place for tourists visiting the nearby British Museum and other attractions. The first beer we had tasted strongly of vinegar. The bar staff were happy to change it for something else when I and my friend couldn't drink it. My consequent beer was fine but my friend's beer was not great and she ended up with a stomach ache later on. They may need to clean the pipes at this place. It was a nice pub inside and the staff were good. It was pleasant to be able to sit outside but we're not fans of their beer so wouldn't visit again.
B. K.
beer good & burger and chicken wings delicious!!!
R. S.
Good upmarket vibe and tasty food. Good selection of beers, ales and spirits too. The price is on the pricey side considering its just a gastropub and the menu is limited somewhat. However I would recommend people check it out and its great in the summer. Bool ahead if you are planning on food as space can be limited on busy nights.
S. L.
Great food and a good pint 🍻
D. P.
I think somebody Had A Word about access, because they couldn't be more helpful.
Don't have a disabled toilet and I needed it, so communal headscratching about where to find an accessible one then v helpful staff member guided me some substantial distance to a hotel to use one.
3 wheelchair users + partner accommodated with welcome and good grace, friendly and helpful and nice beer

Super nice place for a drink with friends and colleagues, quite ok pub to have a quick dinner. The Plough is loud, full of cheerful workers or occasional football supporters. The menu is provided by a company that manages many other pub kitchens in London, therefore you won't find anything special, only average pub classics. Be careful, most of the deep fried dishes are visibly cooked from frozen! The best sellers of this pub are of course the beers, the offer is regularly updated.
M. C.
We had a pretty tasty meal! even though I have to admit that it was quite a challenge to understand completely what the waitresses were saying... in the end we managed, but I suggest them to slow down when they explain Something to non-native-speaker clients
A. C.
The location of the pub is great, just a little off the main road away from the busy British Museum crowd. A traditional looking pub: slightly dark, wooden features, the smell of old, spilt pints! Had a few with a friend and it was a great place to perch for a 'chin wag'. Music isn't loud so you can converse comfortably with average prices for Central London. Good place to wet your whistle
K. B.
A nice 'traditional' looking pub right by the British Museum. It's a good point to stop at after a late night gallery visit. There were plenty of places to sit when we went on a Friday, and the food options looked really good - though no one in our group ordered. Typical central London beer prices, so make sure you have enough money. They will take card and contactless payments.
C. A.
We picked this place mostly due to its proximity to the British Museum. We ordered a variety of food, including burgers, and some chicken dishes. The loaded burgers were excellent, the hunters chicken was flavourful, and the garlic chicken was wonderful. Definitely a good place to fill your belly.
J. N.
What a wonderful pub was there Saturday evening to watch to football the host James he said his name way was so friendly helpful explaining to to covid policy the at the I felt but sorry for him too repeat it too every customer coming in look like he enjoyed every minute of it and the lovely girl in the pub safe making sure everything is clean she look like she I enjoying herself the manger that brought me my food and drink I think her name was Joanna she was friendly we have good conversation I would highly recommend the plough to everyone next time I be down from Liverpool I will be coming back 5+++++
J.
We only stopped for a few drinks but sitting outside on a sunny day was lovely. Quiet, out of the way and as expensive as you’d expect for a London pub. To find somewhere quiet with space to sit outdoors on a sunny Sunday afternoon seems like a rare find in London.
S. G.
Good food, decent prices and reasonable bathrooms. Typical pub where you order at the bar. Nice variety on the menu. It seemed pretty busy for late lunch time. I'd pop in again if I were in the neighborhood.
L. E.
A short walk from the Museum Tavern off the main road past the British Museum and this pub is similar in style but quieter. Toilets still a staircase away but as up not down cooler and pleasanter. Not cheap as a pub, but as I say bang in the middle of touristland so what would you expect.
B. L.
A chain in the Green King line. Basic food and beer for a fair price.
G. T.
Great atmosphere here, the food was great, I ordered the Steak and Ruddles Ale pie and the crust was perfect good sides plus the baked potato I got was fully loaded. The only let down was the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the service time.
K. O.
Great English pub, lovely welcoming staff, yummy food! Can't fault it
D. C.
I used to go to the Plough every Friday night after work with my colleagues and I always had a good time there.
They don't have a wide selection of beers and the place is quite small (so always packed during the winter when not many people dare to stay outside), but it has the classic look & feel of a traditional British pub and the staff is friendly.
Probably not the best pub in London, but a good one for the area.
B. i. R.
We stop by The Plough on Museum St. every time we are in London. We have declared it our "local" since we are very comfortable there. Our London friends know where to meet us when we say, "See you at the pub."
Just a nice place with inside and outside seating. Good food and ale. Lively conversation all 'round. Appears to have a lot of "regulars" in attendance every time we visit.
Highly recommended for a dinner and a good time!
G. B.
Nice traditional pub just around corner from British Museum. Great food, try the fish and chips, Simon the chef makes a great batter and chips. Prices very reasonable.
U.
All the staff were brilliant, especially Tomasz
Thank you
C. B.
Another lovely Greene king pub in the heart of great staff the fish finger sandwiches out of this world
K. R.
I tried the Sunday roast (beef) and although not as good as my grandmother’s, it was pretty tasty, especially the roast potatoes. It was a mix of tourists and locals, and the bartender was helpful in finding a good lager.
A. B.
Old fashioned, real beer orientated pub near to the British Museum. Very good range of beers, well looked after. Normally full. The Bar is normally busy too, but the staff are fast and efficient.
R. H.
Very nice pub, not too crowded on my visit
J. E.
Classic pub. Really tasty fish and chips
D. W.
This traditional pub within striking distance of the British Museum serves standard Greene King fayre at touristy prices. Food was decent but when we visited during the day there was no real atmosphere.
B. F.
One of the best pubs in London!
N. R.
Reasonably sized Greene King pub not far from the British Museum, offering a few cask beers and continental lagers. Has extra seating upstairs, some screens for sports and one or two tables on the pavement outside.
L.
Very nice place, good food and atmosphere.
J. H.
To some extent, being yet another Taylor Walker pub, it's nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but nonetheless last time I was there it had a really nice atmosphere.
I was there with a friend and my baby daughter. A chap got up to leave and offered his table to us. It turned out to be Timothy Spall, which was a nice surprise. Very affable man. Not sure if he's a regular here but it seemed to be indicative of the generally friendly atmosphere.
P. R.
Nice pub. Food is only okay but a good local in central London for a decent pint. Friendly staff, outdoor space and doesn’t get too crowded.
k. m.
Great food and service
A. B.
Great little pub, seek out this brewer for great ales and a quality take on traditional pub food (think weatherspoon but good). Not cheap by out of London standards but the quality means you don't feel ripped off. Loved it.
S. N.
A good pub. Good selection of beers. Very clean
S. M.
Great pub close to the British museum. Good selection of lagers and ales. Not the cheapest pub around but very nice setting and worth a visit. Food is also good but also not inexpensive
C. L.
not too bad
they cook my medium rare steak to nearly well done one... but the surrounding feeling also the wine is quite good
E. L.
I loved this pub.My friend and I walked down the highs treet and went in to three others and walked back out.We will be coming back with friends just to spend the evening.
Lovely and clean too!
M. V.
Nice looking old pub nearby the British museum in a car free street. Enjoyed the little terrace in the shade and had a beer on tap. The service from the bar was a bit rude...
M. S.
Amazing staff and great service, made me feel safe considering the current situation. Food was great as well. Will definitely be back
J. C.
My companions did not like the onion rings, they said it tasted like the oil used to fry things was old? In any case the burger I had was good...
R. P.
Great friendly pub.
J. B.
All round lovely experience
J. B.
Tourig around London for the weekend popped into "The Plough" by chance...
Experinced good food and great service despite the pandemic.
A cheers for the nice crew :-)
S. B.
Great atmosphere and excellent service, I would definitely recommend a visit! Also, its coming home.
G. D.
when i went to the plough i had a steak and kidney pie and home made chips, the chips were cooked to pefection. i enjoyed going there also becsause all my family were there, we ended up having a great meal, for desert i had a vanilla cheesecake which was lovely and rich and wonderful in flavour.
G. L.
Good food, good beer, good atmosphere, with large groups service is a little slow. Other wise can't fault it. Would come back again with a smaller group.
S. m.
Nice pub good atmpsphere
E. B.
Came here after a bad experience at the pub next door. The Plough provided a lovely warm, professional & helpful welcome which was delightful. Highly recommend this pub!
G. C.
Went this evening the food was first class fresh and hot. The service amazing very friendly staff the guy serving us went of his way to help us.
p. w.
Authentic English pub. Great service and brilliant atmosphere.
T. L.
A cozy English pub near the museums. Try the fish and chips.
A. B.
friendly employees and tasty fish and chips 🤤🤤🤤
M. C.
Didn't have time to eat but the pies and mash looked substantial and tasty. Window decoration states "Famous Fish and Chips since 1860". At £13.49 a tad more expensive than in 1860. Pint Aspall's draught cider £4.95
J. P.
Great selection of beers, and a very friendly staff. We were staying near the British Museum, and this became our home away from home pub. Loved it.
S. G.
Narrow pub with staff who get put out with customers who are.drinking as they try to serve food in the restaurant. Not nice attitude shown towards some patrons whilst I was there.
P. G.
I use this pub as a venue for renewable technolgy knowledge sharing, the first Wednesday of every month, the staff were very helpful acomadating this even though there is a another technology group using the facility at the same time (3D software designers).
Love the atmosphere.
T. S.
The UK's best Fish & Chips.
L. D. S.
Pricier than average but great to use as a refuge after hitting the British Museum or Bloomsbury. Downstairs very crowded but upstairs is quieter (although you may have to order food which is usual pub fare).
T. R.
Brilliant little pub and great staff.
M.
A nice little Greene King pub, a classic in London. Traditional fish & chips, a good choice of beers, and beautiful wooden décor.
L. L.
Delicious pub food and great staff. They managed to find a table for the 8 of us and serve food even with a large Christmas party going on upstairs.
J. T.
Smallish place, stops serving food early on a week night. Staff quite friendly. Nothing fancy in decor, rather plain & functional.
A. B.
Great pub & restaurant very close to the British Museum
J. T.
Standard british pub just a little further away from the crowds. Great place for a drink on a Thursday/Friday evening. Very close to British museum as well.
D. S.
Ok place ok food staff very good
S. J. S.
The Plough seems a little more mainstream than most places in the area, I would go somewhere more authentic next time. Service was good. Bathrooms could use attention...
D. J.
Fantastic little place. Brilliant staff. Good food and a nice selection of ale.
K. W.
A well maintained and friendly pub.
E.
Honestly all it was really good. Positive
M. M.
Nice traditional London pub, great character, fabulous bar, good food and fantastic Guinness!
W. W.
Good food and friendly staff
E. h.
Can bit hit and miss in terms of how busy they are, after a few visits I got it. Staff are always behind the bar ready to serve.
N. R.
Reasonably sized Greene King pub not far from the British Museum, offering a few cask beers and continental lagers. Has extra seating upstairs, some screens for sports and one or two tables on the pavement outside.

(Translated) Near by the British Museum. Great fish n'chips.
A British pub with a good atmosphere, and in the evening you can see many local regulars. Fish and chips seem to be the signature here. The cod is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, but the chips are a bit casual. The chef does not go to work until 5:30 at dinner time. If you want to go for a meal, you can pay attention.

Near by the British Museum. Great fish n' chips.
