Reviews of The Porcupine
E. N.
Fantastic experience!
We were welcomed wonderfully and the food was really great, central location and average London prices.
The waiter was very kind and super helpful, we will definitely be back!
Greetings from Elisa and Ruslan from Italy
S. B.
Really great example of an old London pub. Loads of originality, it doesn't take much imagination to think if seeing Bill Sykes and Bullseye lurking in the corner. Not bad beer either. 😁 Didn't try the food but the menu looked good.
M. H.
Great location on a busy corner of London, Praha lager was great taste, nice ambience and good service at the bar one Thursday afternoon in September. The bar menu was available but the restaurant upstairs was closed in spite of the large display saying the Dining Room was upstairs!!
H. H.
Love this pub. My friend and I go here if we visit the Art centre just up the road. Upstairs wasn't open this time, I think they were advertising for staff and the food was not as good as usual. Even so bar staff were as usual friendly and attentive. I think Brexit and Covid has decimated the pool of hospitality staff or the Management are paring down their staff. Still love this little pub.
I. H.
Despite being a busy Saturday night we were served quickly and politely by the efficient and friendly bar staff. We haven't been there for many years but it hasn't changed; the busy and vibrant atmosphere was the same as ever. If you want a bustling London pub this is for you.
A. B.
Lovely little old pub, lots of character and charm to it
D. F.
We only called in for a couple of drinks so didn't go upstairs to the restaurant. Overall a nice cosy Victorian pub and the staff were friendly and helpful 🍻.
P. D.
Good selection of beer and drinks. This is part of the Nicholson's chain of restaurants. Food was average, not bad but not excellent either. We ate in the dining room upstairs and they had only one employee doing everything. While he was doing a good job, there were too many customers for him to provide outstanding service.
M. H.
Another great visit. Always friendly. Always great beers.
R. C.
Very crowded, popular pub, but got served quickly. Good selection of beers.
b. r.
Old english style pub, close to Trafalgar square in the very middle of the center of London. Very populare , so better bring some time when you wish to eat. A very nice and friendly lady at the bar, pointed us in the right direction regarding Coventry garden, Soho etc. My favorite beer...Camden Mild.
C. L.
Visiting from US, we stumbled on The Porcupine while walking about. Lovely, dark pub with delicious meat pies. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and kindness from the lady who helped us.
b. p.
Great pub with good atmosphere, serve food and drinks although we hadn't ate here so can't comment on food. The bar staff were friendly as were the other drinkers in the bar.
Z. T.
Good pub food. What made it great was the friendly and attentive staff.
I. G.
Good food, useful upstairs dining area. Few meal and drinks unavailable but enjoyed fish and chips and a chicken burger.
C. G.
It's a busy pub, in Central London. We ordered food, which was quite slow.
I ordered Macaroni cheese, for £13 you get a very small portion. It was nothing special either. The place was okay, nothing to rave about.
D. H.
Lovely small victoriana pub on Charing Cross Rd next to Leicester Square tube. Good beers normally but limited due to supply. Good pub grub with Gammon, large selection of pies and great toad in the hole. Nice to watch the world go by. Upstairs dining room as well. Very helpful staff. Good afternoon.
A. B.
Friendly staff 10% off for Veterans on Remembrance weekend was appreciated.
Good music good range of ales.
T. F.
cannot be more helpful. Spot on service, lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed our visit
A. S.
I'm in the area every few weeks to work and this pub continues to be one of my favorites.
Food is good, staff are very friendly and its in a great location, right next to underground station.
Cant get better than that really
r. n.
Food brilliant very nice pubbing good cooked food comfortable surroundings warm clean very impressed with staff and professional service they gave
J. U.
Fantastic pub just off Leicester square. Great food, had lovely potato and leek soup followed by haddock n chips. Really good value, will definitely return
R. C.
Decent pub with great food at reasonable (for central London!) prices. Close to theatre land and Leicester Square.
M. R.
I have really appreciated this typical pub and it's awarded pie. It is an English experience that I suggest once you visit London. I've been there at lunch time: next time I will try beers!
M. L. s.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Staff are friendly and helpful. And its clean which is always a plus in my eyes will definitely be going back
S.
Great location right in the middle of all the action. Fast and friendly service and a nice selection of beers to enjoy in the classic pub interior that has kept its integrity .
D. M.
Nice pub with good prices for food and drink. No frills, normal pub.
M. P.
Great pub and friendly staff. Good selection of beers and ales. Thanks to the staff for refilling our water bottles too.
K. A.
Inducted both of my children now. I am from the era of dancing barstaff either behind or on the bar ❤️
A. C.
Easy-going traditional pub with very tasty food
Z. K.
Loved it. Pop in and out like good old days!!! Very friendly staff! Was very lively with ,,little dance floor"😊.
G. D.
Nice staff, central and beer less than a fiver a pint
F. V.
Yeah ! Great pub, so central but totally authentic I think.
P. L.
We had some really nice service and the fish and chips were great. Thumbs up
N. L.
Been nipping in here for years great pub,bit of a LUFC pub, always make it before the train home.
A. A.
You will find The Porcupine in Leicester Square London within a short stroll of Leicester Square Tube, Shaftesbury Avenue and Long Acre - however you won't find another like it.
Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.
A UNIQUE CITY CENTRE PUB WITH A RICH HISTORY
The Porcupine has proudly stood its ground since 1725. In years gone by we were a haunt of the freemasons and in 1807 became the meeting place for another group; the 'Lodge of Confidence'. In 1822 a gang of thieves came here for a celebratory drink, after burgling at the house of Lord Ashbrook. They were nabbed after asking the landlord to put their equipment behind the bar for 'safe keeping'!
F. o.
It a very touristy pub, but judging by its location what can you expect, have used it for a quick drink after the theatre..serves its purpose
P. H.
Nice friendly bar staff good beer London prices
R. G.
Traditional old mans type boozer.
Usual selection of beverages.
The usual British pub grub serviced. Pint and pie, fish and chips etc.
Bar staff very friendly and helpful!!
C. G. P.
Really nice place with really nice staff. I'd come back for sure, the fish and chips was great.
M. o. a.
A tasty pint of Guinness and surprising quiet given the location.
Also dog friendly which pleased my young daughter.
K. C.
Great location, nice beer but you'll be paying Central London prices....
V. H.
Solid boozer in the centre. Not the widest selection but all solid options. Can get busy though, which makes it difficult as it's not very big.
C. B.
I like it. Very populare , so better bring some time when you wish to eat. A very nice and friendly lady at the bar, pointed us in the right direction regarding Coventry garden, Soho etc. My favorite beer...thanks
V. J.
Got what we've expected. Good food and nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced.
M. K.
I have been yesterday there, there was a guy and 2 girls. He offered me good table and great service. Definitely I will come back.
W. F.
Great ales, convivial atmosphere and CAMRA MEMBERS' discount.
R. L.
Good pub, nice atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices. Tried the Lentil pie and it was delicious.
I. G.
Just had a drink here, pleasant enough
M. D.
A really good atmosphere, had a really good time in this pub. The barman with the green hair was simply awesome.
K. K.
Strategic corner location. Great for people watching. Toilets small and nasty but otherwise great as long as you don't need to go for a dump.
L. R.
We just had drinks and it has a decent selection of beer and drinks! Staff are very friendly.
Due to COVID-19 table service is required and it seems to be challenging for business, so be open minded and patient.
D. B.
Lovely pub that was bustling, enough chairs n tables just to accommodate.. has what looks like an amazing dining area situated upstairs and an amazing array of pies to choose from. Nice pint and has many gins.. no cocktails tho. Lovely pub n deffo worth a visit
B. D.
Only a half hour brief visit, but I was very impressed with it. Right in the heart of Leicester Square, 100 steps across the road from the tube station exit, is this excellent proper English pub. It served a choice of real ales. It had pub decor and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The place was busy without being packed, and I did not notice any queuing at the bar when I was there early evening. Certainly would return here if I was in the area.
D. R.
Wonderful to experience the traditional English pub in the centre of London.
D. H.
Great place brilliant atmosphere. Great staff.
P. Z.
Great place to have a drink and watch the westend in full flow.
P. W.
Great friendly, welcoming warm atmosphere.
S. D.
Lovely old pub in Covent Garden 👍
C. F.
Great place to visits. Interesting feature on the building. Famous for actors coming in from the theatre
C. K.
Great pub friendly helpful staff
P. P.
So this place has become iconic in my circle of friends and colleagues. Everyone I know who visits London gets a photo with a pint and sends it to me. The food is great, as is the staff. Get's busy during the 'after work' hours, but who can blame them all...what a great place to gather and share a laugh over a pint or three. We'll be back soon.
A. E.
A cosy pub in the central of London. Friendly staff and at times the pub can get abit crowded. But should the staff be drinking while working ?
J. G.
Great location, friendly staff, amazing food. I ordered the Smoked Scottish Salmon as an appetizer; it was really good . I could have had that as an appetizer and the main course. For the main course, I had the three mini meat pies. The pies were good, very tasty. Our waiter recommended the Belgian Chocolate Brownie. It was so good! The chocolate was warm and gooey. I will be recommending this restaurants to my friends who will be traveling to London this summer.
S. S.
Super old pup from the 1800 in the centre of it all! Around £4.50 a drink, food upstairs, small but cosy place.
M. C.
Absolutely great! First time yesterday, discovered by chance the best pub in London.. 8pm and already a party, everyone's dancing and having an amazing time. Eclectic crowd. Thanks to the staff, you guys are too good! Meant to stop by a random pub for a quick pint, ended up staying hours till it closed, had dinner upstairs which I recommend too. I'll be back very soon. Cheers
M. W.
Have been a few times, great stop off when in the Leicester Square area, close to to cinemas, theatres. Always try and allow time for a drink in this Victorian pub. Good selection of ales and other drinks. Have never tried the food in but the menu looks interesting .
J. V.
Lively friendly atmosphere great staff definitely worth a night out
c. t.
Food was perfect and not a long wait at all very friendly staff 9oz steak is a recommended dish with halloumi Fry's 🤤🤤
D. T.
A fine central London pub with good beer and plenty of wine and other beverages to enjoy. Busy with all sorts, most enjoyable. A stones throw from Chinatown, Leicester square and Covent garden. Do pop in for a pint and talk to someone new!
L. M.
Great pub, which is very busy with typical central London prices. Inspite of this, the service is very fast and you get your pint pulled very quickly. My only issue is the high prices charged for pints in central London pubs generally, but that may be due to high overheads of rent and business rates, etc.
D. M.
I have been in this pub twice now first time by just walking past and I could hear the fantastic music. Went in and had the most amazing time. Such friendly and experience staff. Will definitely go back and recommend
R. B.
Great food and lovely staff. Will definitely come here again
D. M.
Had a Christmas dinner here and it was good as pubs go! Drinks are also reasonable for a London prices.
Food waiting time between courses was short. Staff were very polite and attentive. Recommend the food which has a good choice of starters, main meal (Christmas selection) and dessert. The meal also comes with a flute of bubbly wine for toasting.
M. C.
Had our Christmas meal on the 15th December, The food was amazing really enjoyed it, everything came out perfect would highly recommend the food in this pub. The lady that was looking after us in the pub she was brilliant, really friendly and knew what she was doing. Must try it if you are in the area i would differently go back for a meal there again.
E.
Great little pub with a long history. Good choice of beers but a lot of the food on the menu turned out to be unavailable at that time. Still, what they had was excellent. Would definetly recommend if you're in the area!
E. L.
Food was good, beer was good, service was just okay and the women's bathroom was unbelievably cramped. If the fish and chips hadn't been so delicious, I would've left and not looked back. The building itself has history which is pretty incredible too!! I suppose that's why the bathroom was so small then...
J. P. H.
Friendly, cozy and good selection. Expensive but then it's London
E. W.
Fantastic food (the steak pie was amazing!), and great selection of drinks. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming, and always having a laugh with each other and the customers. Music selection is brilliant. I will definitely be returning!
G. R.
Went I n last night, what a absolutely fantastic pub, music and atmosphere spot on, staff so happy and interacting with everyone. Never stopped dancing all night. Even the owner loved my sparkly top. X
a. p.
Lovely little pub on the corner with locals
t. a.
Went here for a few drinks on a
Friday night, the atmosphere was electric!!! It was such a fun night. Bar staff joined with the singing and dancing. If you’re claustrophobic it’s probably not the best place for you, but other than that highly recommend
S. Q.
Great service,friendly staff!
Amazing halloumi fries, thanks to the chefs!
I totally recommended it!!
M. P.
Pretty good pub for being so close to Leicester Square. Not particularly touristy. Has a reasonable selection of gins (including a rhubarb one, which you should try), a few decent ales on pump and, if they don't ring your bell, some bottled ales. Staff are friendly and if you can get one of the few seats outside, you can watch the world go by.
A.
Popped in for a cheeky G&T at lunch. Nice selection. They serve food but I didnt sample although looked good. Lovely old suitcase full of games to play. Friendly staff.
G. C.
Nice pub, good for people watching
D. B.
Best pies in London great beer very friendly service
R. M.
Decent pub on good location. Coping well with the Covid constraints. Friendly staff.
J. S.
Small and cozy (especially the toilets) but with a certain charm, highlighted even more so by the old timey decor and theatre pictures/posters of many famous actors on the walls.
Beer selection is not amazing, but there is some choice of lagers/ales and ciders, as well as other spirits.
I do enjoy the name, which speaks of the pub's quirky nature.
E. C.
Lovely Victorian pub in the heart of London's theatreland and historic Charing Cross Road. This well run pub beside Leicester square tube always has a good selection of ales not normally seen, so it's always great to try something new and this friendly pub is always a pleasure to visit. Upstairs is a dining room with great views on busy London life around Leicester square
E. L.
The establishment boasts a connection with Noel Coward, the building was quite nice.
The Sunday roast was very disappointing Roast potatoes were not cooked (needed at least another 20 minutes), and the roast beef was small in portions and not that good quality also the whole dinner was soaked in gravy, and included on the plate was a ceramic pot of more.......... gravy !
Not worth the money as there are many more places to choose from in the area.
A. P.
Absolutely love this place whenever I am in London I always pop in for a drink and food staff are amazing. Every staff member I have encountered in here have gone above and beyond customer service. Thank you guys for always be up for a laugh and so awesome
N.
Fantastic fun and great beers
M. W.
Lovely pub right outside Leicester Square station. Bit too busy when we got there but filtered out and managed to get a seat watching the world go by. Good atmosphere and will visit again.
F. B.
As usual....friendly, welcoming staff.
S.
A place for a quick drink out of the rain. However after ordering drinks was told no children in bar after 7pm. Why not told before ordering I don't know. These kids however are 12 and 15 so not exactly disruptive. Give them a diet coke and a mobile phone they're happy as Larry
J. L.
The best fish and chips I've ever eaten. Very generous portion size as well. I couldn't have been more pleased we came across this place.
B. S.
I always like to pop in for a pint when out in central London, as I find it quite a cosy pub however, if you only pop in for a drink downstairs can get really crowded. There is outside sitting as well as dining upstairs.
W.
Standard pub which turn on tv whenever football match comes around. Definitely a place where you and your friend can chill and have a drink. Especially on every friday evening, this place is completely filled with ppl to hang around.
S. K.
Great pub right by the tube!
K. M.
The Noel Coward Dining Room at The Porcupine is a joy. Menu great, food first class, especially the fish and chips. Best of all, the friendly staff take time to help you find the best choice. Amazingly, for the West End, the price is right too. Oh yeah, take it from a Dubliner, the Guinness is well-poured too!!!!!
A. T.
Nice pub, good atmosphere and service.
P. G.
The service was excellent. Every course of the food was presented well and was really satisfying. The best pub meal I have had for ages. Will go again definitely.
F. C.
We visited at 12:30-13:00 on the 30th March. Lovely little pub. Cosy inside.
Grumpy female member of staff serving. Barely acknowledged myself and my daughter.
Needless to say we went elsewhere for our next drink.
M. U.
Definitely one of the most pleasant establishments we visited in London. While not largest, the atmosphere, prices (considering its Leicester square they were good) and staff made the stay great. If only it was open tad longer haha!
M. R.
Great little pub with a good range. They served us all afternoon Remembrance Sunday. Us being family, friends and Veterans. Thanks for all the grub and lovely Guiness.
J. C.
We stopped in for beers before dinner. We had good service, a great view of Leicester Square and excellent people watching. We snacked on Mac'n cheese balls and dirty chips.
M. C.
Brilliant atmosphere, great staff, nice beers, good wine, music, liked the look of the menu though I didn't eat - sharing platters and a range of pies. Top pub.
M.
I love this place... Staff great.. Especially the Manager.. Top Bloke.... Nice food and Music always on... One of my favourite pubs in London 😁
F. C.
Nice little place for a pit stop after shopping for your Asian Groceries in Chinatown.
Average selection of drinks at average Central London prices. Place is small with not too many tables, so you are likely to have to stand, but on the plus side, it doesn't feel crowded.
J. S.
Decent British fare at reasonable prices for this area. We ate here during the intermission for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Lots of people on the lower level watching football matches.
A. K.
the food was pretty good, and the ale was great. nice atmosphere and for some reason they played the pokerap? not complaining about that, its was amazing, but pretty weird!
A. C.
Good option around Leicester Square with a decent beer offering on the cask side and a good gin list to boot. Standard offering from the chain and one of the better pubs in the vicinity.
J. B.
Great local , in a great location, great atmosphere, party tunes with singing bar staff! lol. A big thanks to the manager who found my wifes phone after we left. Definately return next time in London
B. d. P.
Classic London pub. I was here before Christmas and the place was decorated to the max and everyone was nice and drunk singing along to classic bangers. Great times.
M. C.
Nice ale at reasonable prices
R. L.
Good collection of ales; looks small from the outside but there's more seating upstairs. Air conditioning was a bit weak on my visit, but only a problem for those very hot days.
A. G.
Beatiful place, well placed. We had dinner: a fisher's plate for share (good for two people) and a trio of pies (just for one not for share). Good food, good service!
J. P.
Really good location for several of London's theatres. Original features make this a really interesting building. Very good food and real ale range
B. S.
Friendly dog friendly pub, good service. We just went for drinks but was very welcoming and seemed reasonably priced
D. P.
Excellent location, nice atmosphere and vintage decor. Unfortunately barman did not know how to make a Bloody Mary, nor was there any Tabasco
M. W.
Have been a few times, great stop off when in the Leicester Square area, close to to cinemas, theatres. Always try and allow time for a drink in this Victorian pub. Good selection of ales and other drinks. Have never tried the food in but the menu looks interesting .
A. K.
the food was pretty good, and the ale was great. nice atmosphere and for some reason they played the pokerap? not complaining about that, its was amazing, but pretty weird!
G.
Always great! Staff were chatty and remembered me from months ago. Good thing? Not sure! Will definitely go back.
G. R.
Went I n last night, what a absolutely fantastic pub, music and atmosphere spot on, staff so happy and interacting with everyone. Never stopped dancing all night. Even the owner loved my sparkly top. X
V. T.
Good stakes and pleasant atmosphere
A. G.
Beatiful place, well placed. We had dinner: a fisher's plate for share (good for two people) and a trio of pies (just for one not for share). Good food, good service!
A. W.
Very pleasant and good beers on offer.
J. P.
Just happened to walk in and there were happy people singing along and a smiling staff bringing us beers.
E. C.
Lovely Victorian pub in the heart of London's theatreland and historic Charing Cross Road. This well run pub beside Leicester square tube always has a good selection of ales not normally seen, so it's always great to try something new and …
S. H.
A decent little pub in a good position near the station and China town
They serve a food selection of drink
They serve food and have a first floor restaurant and bar
Toilets on first floor a but small and crowded and not always as clean as they could be
Didn't see a disabled toilet but there may be one
Not tried the food so can not comment on quality
Prices OK not a rip off
Friendly staff
Give them a try
D. F.
Nice beers, nice vinyl
T. S.
Small street level bar. Prime location. dining upstairs area was closed. Food in the bar area was nice.
D. T.
Nice atmosphere in there for Halloween
G. C.
A nice little pub with decent prices around Leicester Square. Good place for a quick pint down in the town!
D. L.
Lovely evening with my son after theatre our waitress from Poland was a gem she made us so welcome bit cold upstairs but with such a warm welcome who could tell
R. O.
Traditional boozer in theatre land. Not much to say, nice meeting point or stop for a quick pint, old fashioned decor based around a gang of crooks who got caught here in the 1800 's after bragging about their loot.
J.
Not so much a review more of a query and I’ll delete this once it’s been answered. Can i get to Diagon Alley through your pub?
A. M.
This is a really good pub with nice food. The staffs were friendly and nice. Totally recommend this place.
R. A.
Maybe needs a bit of a plumbing revamp.
J. G.
First pub I visited when I was a teenager and always make a point of visiting it when me and my wife come to London, I'm now 66.
Just love it.
G. M.
Was in the last night on a stag do and what an amazing atmosphere. Music was great, staff were fantastic will definitely be going back again!!

Y. 4.

T. H.
Nice watering hole. Good selection of beers.
D. G.
Nice pub to grab a beer at!
E. A. L.
Great food friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. We loved it. Amazing fish and chips
I. M.
Beer is okay, but the food is below average, the waiter forgot a part of order and didn't bring it even after being reminded
F. l.
Very nice pub with friendly staff. Great atmosphere and ambience. I'll be back.
K. L.
Excellent pub with friendly staff.
M. M.

J. J.

P. M.
Great traditional English pub serving great beer (proper ale!)
T. C.
Corner Pub with good Air Conditioning and solid bartenders. Great place to pit stop for a quick pint and a break from the summer heat.
L. P. G.
Great pub!! Friendly hardworking team with a buzzing atmosphere! a must visit when in London!!
j. a.
Nice place near Leicester Square, cheap drinks pretty busy but cheapest in the area if you feel like a drink.
G.
Always great! Staff were chatty and remembered me from months ago. Good thing? Not sure! Will definitely go back.
A. C.
Great atmosphere. Very rowdy and filled with tourists if you’re looking for a loud bar when drunk
H. W.
Great pub to have a quick drink. Good selection of ales and ciders.
S. A.
Right next to Leicester Sq station, and prices are at a premium because of it. Decent pub but there's better if you can be bother to walk a little.
M. M.
We loved this ole pub. Great fish n chips, great signaling on Fridays too
D. M.
Great location and cosy feel but the barman barely looked at me as he served me the £5.30 pint of lager.
i. c.
Nice little pub near Leicester square tube station. Be careful when sitting outside though, as you'll quickly become a route finder for confused tourists
B. P.
Nice place, but was missing two of the wines I wanted. Or maybe the server didn't speak English well and didn't feel like looking for them
S. W.
Nice that this place still exists
P. H.
Cosy little pub which served great drinks. We spent a lovely hour outside under the heaters watching London go by.
A.
Nice pub with decent selection of drinks, very traditional
L. c. E.
Great little London pub very friendly staff good food good atmosphere
L. I. D.
Very busy but there is always a very welcome pint. Good place to meet. Good landmark.
D. E.
A proper West end London pub, if a little on the large side. Some decent (very expensive) beers on.
G. D.
What a lovely place...was blown away by the great atmosphere inside! Great night spent in there! Highly recommend it!
E. P.
Friendly staff, nice gin selection, good food and great location.
Visit before or after the theater, you wont be disappointed.
J. T.
