Reviews of The Porterhouse
M.
Trendy venue with decent amount of outdoor tables undercover, real ales on draught and many well known and not so well known strong Belgian and German bottled beers which are all listed on the drinks menu. Attentive staff and made to feel welcome, had a good meal there too.
A.
Huge selection of beers over at least three floors plus sizeable, heated terrace. Quick service too. Great place.
G. C.
I loved this place. Very good energy, while outdoors is cool I would recommend visiting inside as the decoration is quite nice! I went there on a Saturday and they had a rock band playing on the basement. I would 100% go back!
H. T.
Great pub, loads of space. Live music in the lower floor which is nice and one can choose to go or not! Had some hot snacks, perfect! Staff very professional and accommodating.
A. W.
Will go here again. Live band downstairs on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere. 2 levels in the pub so there is a bar 2 getaway 4 them quiet times.also an area outside when U want 2 chill out
G. L. M.
Great ambience, with live music and lots of beer to choose about!
A must during your visit to Covent Garden!
R. R.
PInching myself, this place hasn’t changed! The fantastic nooks and crannies, the copper piping, the wide variety of drinks; THen, to top it all off, the most energetic atmosphere!
J. T.
Love this pub. It's the biggest pub in London set over 12 different levels and mostly unique beers. Bar staff are always friendly, fast and attentive and they know the wide selection of beers inside out. Nice and cosy little areas to sit and also big screen for the footy. Decent milled wine also.
V. D.
The first place where I saw a book which is actually a beer menu. Seen more places later with bigger selection of beers, but this one I'm especially emotional about. The staff was very attentive and helpful and helped me select a really good one!
B. T.
Stumbled across this place yesterday and glad we did! They have a large range of their own beers (which were lovely!) The staff were incredibly friendly and gave us some helpful recommendations. Such a great pub, will definitely come back again soon.
L. D.
Iconic pub for any beer lover! This place is like a maze with different types of beers across the various bars in the venue! Great for a night out with mates, they also have live music on Fridays and Saturdays nights.
P. C.
We visited the Porterhouse on a very busy Saturday night and had a great time. They have their own selection of beers so make sure you try the larger, pilsner, IPA and stout.
I must make special mention of the staff who were excellent. One particular girl who saw our empty water bottle on the table and took it away and filled it up. She was lovely. Thank you Porterhouse
S. P.
What a great pub, one of my favourites in London. People make places more unique, and Veronica, the staff that greeted us had a really contagious positive energy, and was very helpful and finding us a table and giving recommendations on drinks, amazing service!!
Speaking of drinks, the menu is really extensive, and if you enjoy beers like I do, you'll find really good ones here, from small breweries to big names, along with some recognizable international ones. Hope to come back soon!
S. V.
Spacious and bustling city pub with lots of nooks and other seating. Fair selection of beers, though their own brand porters leave a lot to be desired - sub-Guinness unfortunately!
C. S.
Massive pub, pretty crowded during the afternoon or weekend. Classic beers choices, even if the service was very slow.
In terms of visuals the place is very fancy with a lot of space inside.
N.
Staff were really friendly and they had a nice selection of beers, would definitely come again
R. H.
Nicely done pub. Good service. Great selection of Belgian beers was the highlight for me. Basic pub food. My Irish partner a bit put out that they didn't serve Irish coffee. I'd come again for the beer though.
M. J.
Amazing bar. Very large inside along with a massive patio outside. They have a large selection of draught beer. Try the Oyster Stout. It's on par with a Guinness (possibly better). Food wasn't the best, but service was friendly and more attentive than expected (particularly for British standards).
J. B.
Really interesting interior, good selection of beer and lots of atmosphere. Fairly young crowd in the evenings, more mixed during the day. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting London and looking for an authentic but unique pub.
J. W.
friendliest door-woman in the world. What a great welcome. Heaters are annoying as keep turning off every 5 minutes. I had to leave my pint to switch it on.
P. H.
There is a tremendous selection of beers here including German. Only went there for drinks but the food smelt very good too. Good area to sit outside
M. (. S. K.
Excellent pub, great variety of draft lagers and ales, super friendly staff. Hadn't been here for many years will certainly use it more frequently now. Reasonable prices (on the draught beers) for the area too. Also trans friendly as I did visit as my female self ( Naomi). Date of visit evening 2.10.21. Thanks.
M. W.
I have been meaning to write this review for a while (pictures from before lockdown). Great food and some of the best craft beer in London. Their porter is so fresh and tastes amazing. Next time you're in Covent Garden and they are open again after lockdown you should definitely pay them a visit. Highly recommended.
J. A.
Great selection of beers. Friendly staff, good sanitisation and plenty of seating.
M. S.
They have their own craft beers which are so delicious and have a unique taste 👍 Servicing is very quick. I didn't wait even 2 min to make an order. Also staffs are extremely welcoming and friendly 😊 I will definitely come again after quarantine time. I would like to have an inside experience because decoration and atmosphere was looking amazing 🎉
M. R.
My all time favourite Irish pub, was surprised to find out this place opened in 2012. Looks like the inside of an old cruise liner, like the titanic.
T. F.
Great pub and great atmosphere all within a 3min walk from Covent Garden. Regularly have live music and staff make you feel welcome (the lady front of house with Security is great). One thing, I ordered a drink and the glass was still slightly dirty - all was fixed within minutes (a genuine apology and another drink). Guessing it’s just the sheer volume of patrons and the dish washers working overtime…it happens! All in all fab night!
S. F.
Very reasonably priced for the location. Great selection of beers. Halloumi burger was lovely! Only downside is staff forgot to bring cutlery and condiments. When I got the cutlery there was no knives.
D. C.
The porter house is fantastic.
Beautifully decorated with a keen attention to detail and a very strong theme throughout.
However not only is it stunning to look at!
With a truly astounding range of beer and whisky the drinks menu is not just for show!
Plenty of seating, spread out over seven floors with many nooks for dates, tables for dineing and long tables for parties.
When I have been the live music offering was lively and topical. Good sound and atmosphere.
Of particular note. As it's over 21 only the feeling is a lot more calm and enjoyable. It's highly unlikely there will be a fight at kicking out time and everyone shuffles out respectfully when asked to leave.
P. T.
Absolutely amazing staff and selection of drinks. The building is a hark back to old school neo punk brewing and best pub in the area for a good olde pint.
Highly recommend a visit!
r. f.
Great pub with decent selection of beers/stout & drinks to choose from. Lots of seating areas on several levels and excellent staff run by highly experienced management. Love it 😍
M. N.
Great selection of beers and competitive prices. Lovely building with lots of different levels and helpful friendly staff. Always pop in when I'm in the area
T. C.
Been drinking here for years which should say enough...however the unique multi level floors the warm friendly staff and of course oyster stout is a what its all about. If in London for a visit please try...if you live here but never been then its now on your horizon. 😁😁😁
A. G.
Massive indoor bar space with multiple levels, makes the place feel cosy and intimate although is a bit of a maze.
Staff are really friendly.
The Porterhouse is well located and is a stone's throw from Covent Garden.
Large selection of drinks on tap including some of their own.
K. R.
Brilliant, interesting, atmospheric. I my criticism was that vodka tasted a little flowry! I know, should of been drinking ale!! So worth a visit.
T. F.
Great selection of drinks. Such a huge menu!
Staff are charming, friendly and the place is a nice getaway from the hordes of people that stroll through London. Decor is stylish, comfy and dark in the best sort of way. Like a well done Game of thrones episode (not including season 8)
The pizza is 10/10. Damn. Simply amazing in the best of ways!
Do recommend.
A. V.
Always a great place to meet drink and chat. The priority of the hourly cleaning routine was filling in the form which took more time than their flushing one toilet. Amusing.
R. Z.
Good looking clean venue with great selection of beer and whisky!
C. G.
Lovely staff, told me a little bit about Porterhouse. Good drinks, good environment.
D. O.
"house beers" are of good quality, however much respect to the number of German beers available.
Needs some soft music on speakers during the earlier evening. Kinda weird to have no music on.
Y. E.
Nice warm bar with many levels. Good beer selection (plenty of porters as the name suggests). Lots of seating. We went upstairs, it was a nice view but a little warm up there, maybe we should have gone downstairs! Overall a very enjoyable experience:
P. T.
Great pub, fab selection of local draft ales. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Highly recommended. Live band Friday and Saturday evening 😎
l. s.
Lovely pub, lots to look at and lots of nooks and crannies offering different seating areas. Plus outside seating. A selection of beers craft and real ale
E. B.
A great pub with its own brews, one of my favourites spots in London!
S. S.
Only place you can reliably get an after theatre/show/ballet drink in Covent Garden. Door person was great, lots of heaters in the outside area and a nice vibe
T. S.
Nice pub, good range of drinks to try. Interesting interior, with lots of different spaces to sit depending on the setting your after. Can get busy but given its location it's to be expected.
A. E.
A bit crowded. The music was not to our taste but lots of other people were really enjoying it. We did not stay long. We may return to try it again at another opportunity.
K. K.
Went back the other night, drinks were fine but the food left a lot to be desired. The beef burger was like a hockey puck - super hard and chewy.
A. L.
I like this place for a number of reasons. Live music downstairs, the main bar area on ground floor and a cocktail bar upstairs. They have beers from all over the world, a huge selection! The lighting is nice and dim. The decor is wood and brass. It's a huge bar! There is also a large outdoor seating area. Security there seems good. It gets pretty busy on weekends as you might expect but that just adds to the good times vibes. Definitely worth a visit.
C. F.
I simply love this pub, as a stout/porter aficionado its just heaven for me. Not to mention the unique architecture inside, it's always a nice experience to spend time there.
L.
Great pub, amazing live music nights!
A. V.
Always a great place to meet drink and chat. The priority of the hourly cleaning routine was filling in the form which took more time than their flushing one toilet. Amusing.
C. W.
Great venue and the live band (The Freaks I believe) in the basement were quality.
Porterhouse own brand drinks were all great too.
A. B.
The manager Pat and JV are amazing and very accommodating if you ever visit The Porterhouse you will never be disappointed! Pat has amazing jokes too, you’ll never have a dull moment. Food and drinks is lovely too. If I could rate the service from Pat and JV I’d rate them 10/10

Fabulous Irish pub with great live music Thursday-Saturday, their own beer brews & tons of nooks & crannies to find a spot right for you!
J. C.
Nice place with helpful friendly staff. Has a great selection of beers and spirits

J. Q.
Great beer. Get there early though. The place was rammed and we had to wait a while to get a seat.
F. G.
Very spacious and comfortable place. They have beers from all over the world and a wide range of whiskey to taste. Of course you can have some food, but the kitchen closes at 19:00.
R. W.
Lovely pub and excellent food and drink choice. Me and my partner came on Sunday and the roast was absolutely amazing. Drink choice was great and will highly recommend this bar. Inside is great with lots of different levels and alcoves to sit in.
M. R.
Great choice of beers. Especially the house IPA
A. D.
Biggest range of beers and ales I have seen in long time! Includes their own brews. Unique decor inside, not a huge amount of seating and a little gloomy.
T. M.
One of my favourite pubs in London. Loads of space but still feels cozy, super friendly staff, great selection of beers.
R. T. (. M. P.
Great pub with good choice of different beers and drinks
J. C.
Nice place with helpful friendly staff. Has a great selection of beers and spirits
N. D.
Not bad at all
Good beers well run.
Staff very professional.
Been a few times..
Always a good crowd.
For some reason I always make it home.. But there are a lot of blanks..
Always a sign of a blast of a day/evening /night.
Plastic acceptable and will help fill in the blanks.
Can not find any faults with this place
Nor could I find my keys the next day.
Beezer... only thing missing is a good Guinness...

Always love this place, can get pretty busy in the evening even during the week but it's worth getting in for the selection of beers. The decor and layout mean you can have a larger table for a group in a little corner hidden away.
B. B.
Busy, lively pub on Saturday night - would return when next visiting London.
J. L.
Great atmosphere and variety of drinks. I stupidly tried to drink all 12 of the beers on tap 🤦🏻♂️
EDIT: Two friends and I returned to The Porterhouse this week to make our third attempt at The Porterhouse 12 challenge.
During lockdown, amazing people across the country have been undergoing and completing some truly awesome physical challanges, but none that can compare with The Porterhouse 12.
The seemingly simple challenge of drinking the 12 pints on the 'Stout and Oyster' bar has defeated many a seasoned drinker since the inception of the challenge in 2019.
We made a strong start and were ploughing steadily away at the notoriously difficult 'middle third' when disaster struck. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Porterhouse was forced to close at 2030hrs leaving us stranded on pint 8. By this stage, we had already battled through pints of stout, cider, lager, pale ale, a delicious strawberry concoction and were desperate to finish.
The Porterhouse has its own, bespoke selection of pints and we knew that the closure of the bar at 2030 had forced the end of our challenge. Unwilling to admit defeat, we moved to another local pub to drink the last four pints in the knowledge that we would have to return to The Porterhouse to make a fourth attempt at the 12 in the future.
With further training and proper planning, I know we can complete this mighty challenge.
C. C.
Amazing selection of draft and beer bottles. Knowledgeable staff. Very friendly and easy to accommodate your flavor profile
S. B.
This pub is amazing. Visited recently and was very impressed. Great service and friendly staff.
T. H.
Huge! Didn't realise how big this place was! It has 3 floors and 3 bars and plenty of seating. It has really nice tudor decor but is a little bit dark downstairs.
We couldn't work out what the price of a spiced rum was though - charged £4.70, £5.50 and £7.10 on different occasions. So I recommend specifying the exact rum you want.
Didn't try the food but drinks were fairly average price for central London.
Location is great - a short walk down the hill from Piccadilly Circus.
M. A.
My partner and I love this place, especially as it is for adults only, very nice beer
A. B.
The manager Pat and JV are amazing and very accommodating if you ever visit The Porterhouse you will never be disappointed! Pat has amazing jokes too, you’ll never have a dull moment. Food and drinks is lovely too. If I could rate the service from Pat and JV I’d rate them 10/10
O. F.
Reduced menu that wasn't tempting at all but great place for a drink!
S. D.
Went back to this place and I must say the whole interaction was a complete 360 since my last visit the staff were amazing and friendly. The service was great, I hope it stays this way
C. S.
5 out of 5 for ambiance, service and beer variety. In comparison the food was a bit of a let down. While Id recommend the Ale and Steak Pie, the Sheperds Pie (despite being listed as one of the greatest in London) was just... meh. Very acidic. Overall worth a visit though!
C. J. G.
Really Cool pub with great beer selection and decent prices.
G. S.
I had time to kill and magically found myself at their doorstep. I went straight upstairs and to their back whiskey bar. Downstairs has more cocktails and beer and I was in the mood for something more. Bartender knows his drinks and is ready to share and cater to your tastes. In the little time I spent I learnt a lot. Started off with the usual Japanese whiskeys and moved onto the Scottish ones. Will go back. Great place to meet up with frie da or coworkers.
J. F.
One of the best pubs in London brilliant selection of beers well worth a visit
K. T.
Very cool decor inside, great selection of drinks at very reasonable prices for the area. Couldn't ask for more really!
C. B.
Great pub and great food. The barman Dremel was such a lovely guy and really took care of our table. He was amazing. Definitely will come here again.
S. H.
Friendly pub for dogs in their beer garden in front of the pub which was well heated. Two pints of lager cost about £11.50.
Z. C.
Food was tasty, service was quick, had run out of quite a few alcohols but still a good variety
N. P.
Good range of beers in a large pub with a good out-door space. Staff are pretty rude though.
S. A.
Comfy venue in a great location with some nice heated outside seating
u. H.
Nice ambiance with a excellent choice of beverages. Try the stouts! The service is good and friendly. Unfortunately the pizza was cold and the kitchen ain't flexible with leaving out mushrooms from a frying pan. They bill before service...why?
B.
Great pub with wide choice of belgian beers and beers from various countries. This pub is quite large with lots of room inside and outside (great in spring and summer). One of my favourite pub for the choice of beer and central location.
A. B.
Food beer selection, plenty of space over 4/4 levels very good for groups.
J. D. S.
Great place for beer/ale. Good atmosphere and food is very nice too.
Copper pipe themed pub with tables spread throughout, various bars serving beer/ale and other drinks. Whisky bar is interesting!
j. d.
I love this place, live bands great atmosphere and good drinks! All round great night out
A. B.
Have been here several years back and just kept thinking that whenever I'm back in London, I should definitely go back there.
So, that's exactly what I did. The place is just like I remembered. Great atmosphere and they have a great selection of specialty beers from all around the world. The staff seems to know their stuff, and don't forget to try their own brewed beers from the tap.
I especially liked their Stout
D. W.
Great range of draft beers, good food and really friendly staff.
s. j.
Nice pub, inside and outside AR edecent size, and their in house beers are really good!
j. v.
A nice place.but quite crowded.the atmosphere is nice, but i felt like the staff was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of customers they had to deal with.i asked for a straw for my drink and i never recieved it,so i assume the attention to details and the customer needs is not the best.
E. C. S.
Quirky pub really cool to look at. Of course not cheap on London and a bit too noisy fo me (couldn't hear music)
Definitely worth a visit. Really unique place
J. P.
Really good pub for over 21’s and strictly adhered to. Food is very good and quite inexpensive as it’s in Covent Garden
F. R.
Nice atmosphere. Great beer variety. Excellent service. Live music.
R. A.
Simply a great venue. Floors of fun and the live band topped it off.
S. V.
Lovely place. You can drink what you imagine. And the chips are delicious !!!
T. N.
Very friendly staff and great service. Don't try the food but will do that next time.
T. H.
Lovely old pub, beautiful and quirky interior, good selection of dri ks at very reasonable prices for London.
A. F.
First visit in 18 months to our favourite London watering hole. We were not disappointed, this place is great. Great atmosphere, great food and drink and if you are lucky enough to be served by Pat you will not be short of a few good laughs too.He also has a wonderful knowledge of all the beers. Thank you for making our afternoon Pat. ❤️
t. k.
Great pub seating area outside and big pub inside. Good atmosphere. Nice food. Reasonable prices for London. All in all great pub.
B. d. S.
It's a very nice place to stay after a work day. Many different people visit the pub.
D. D.
Great pub, multiple beers on several floors, could get list in here😁

G. G.
Huge pub but filled with endless nooks for a much cosier experience; this place is always buzzing, and is actually fairly priced and even offers a beer of the day, Porterhouse branded, which goes much cheaper than other pubs in Covent Garden. Has live music too which livens up the place even more. Didn’t get to try the food, but looked longingly and with great jealousy at the steak that has been served at the table next to ours.
L.
Great pub, amazing live music nights!
M. S.
Great pub good choice of beers a lot of laughter going on in there friendly atmosphere staff friendly
E. D.
My boyfriend and I come here rather often.
The service is always friendly and even on busy event days quick and orderly for a busy pub.
The door man/security officer (big tall black man) is always so nice to everyone.
We came once with my boyfriends elderly parents and he quickly asked people to move around so we could sit somewhere.
We really love this place and can't wait until we get to come back
C. H.
Great selection of beers and lagers. Lots of outside seating with heaters.
B. F.
Fun pub with live music. Very friendly staff. Large seating areas inside and outside.
K. L.
Great pub with lots of ales and beers on tap. This pub is spread across 3 floors and gets very busy but always has a chilled out vibe!
G. L.
Great pub with great atmosphere and great Beer menu.
H. P.
Excellent pub, top beer selection and a great whiskey menu upstairs... a must see and taste 😁
M. L.
A really buzzy place near Covent Garden. The interior is full of copper pipes and is very quirky. The service is great even if it is really busy. Over 3 floors there is plenty of room. Small snacks are tasty. It's quite dimly lit so a place for a cosy and buzzy drink.
J.
Terrific pub with numerous floors. Reasonably priced beers for central and even had a live band playing downstairs. Would definitely be returning.
J. R.
Great range of beers, ipa's, and various alcohol drinks. All staff are very polite, abiding by their covid regulations seriously and wearing masks. Service is at the tables as is payment, and tables spread out. Missed this place, glad it's back
V.
Big and vibrant bar with many floors, hidden seats and outdoor area. They do their own beers, vodka, gin and whiskey, plus lots of bottles and cans. Food is very good too and I love the ham cheese croquettes. Special thank you to David which was amazing!! Great knowledge and superb customer service!! Will be back for sure!
A. L. S.
Accidentally found this place on the way to the theatre - a warm welcome found us a table for a quick couple of halves. Covid safe, friendly staff, and a lovely outside seating area! Must go back for a proper visit!
A. F.
Great selection of beers and a really charming inner layout and decoration.
J. G.
Nice quirky pub, but could do with a good clean.
P. W.
Great atmosphere certainly not for those who want a quiet night out 🤣
S. P. O. D.
We’ve been here and photographed a lots of clients here as a local photography company and we think that it’s a lovely place to chill with your friends and have a drink. Definitely recommend.
K. N.
It's easy to see why Porterhouse is one of London's most popular Irish pub.
After walking past the outside terrace (perfect for Summer), you'll find that inside is massive with three floors decked out in a beautiful decor with dark wooden beams and a handsome bar with a solid selection of Porterhouse's own brew from Pale Ale to Stout. The upper floor has a balcony that overlooks the floors below and there are so many comfy nooks and crannies that are intimate and great for your tete-a-tete.
The only tiny downside is its popularity. You may find it tricky to find a table unless you arrive early or you have a table reservation. Nevertheless, a top Irish pub in Covent Garden.
A. S.
Lovely place to have a pint and watch a game. Now with the pandemic there's no TV access anymore and menu a bit limited. Nevertheless the chap at the door was helpful and found us a table for lunch without reservation. The beer was good. The food was tasty but the burgers were well done and dry even though we asked for medium. We'll be going again but not for food.
F. H.
Loved the place and the service. Greta vibe, kind staff and good guest beers on tap.
J. A.
This is a great pub, it has a huge range of beers and porters to drink and it's very big inside. Most days it is very busy and this is taking in the lower ground, ground and first floor. The range is amazing and the beers on tap are delicious, the IPA is tasty but not too flavourful, the larger is refreshing and the porter is full bodied but not too rich. I have enjoyed coming here and glad it's still here as it's an institution. I highly recommend this pub. There is also live music to enjoy on certain days.
A. O. D.
Great place - good food and drinks

Very good homemade beers. Nice live music

Every time I to Covent garden I go here for a cuppel it got a good choice of drinks and a great atmosphere
P. C. R.
Although the beginning of the afternoon didn't go very well - they didn't have my booking for 6 people on the outdoor terrace-, they offered a table inside and gave us a nice and comfy table. Good selection of home beers and very good prices for both home and guest beers. Very good table service and clearly signalled and respecting social distancing. First time at a pub after covid adn highly impressed, I will come back and hopefully next time I can give them 5 stars :)
R. U.
Excellent porter, could have drunk more but needed to eat and food stops at 6pm on a Sunday. That's a shame because we would have eaten and drunk a lot in this lovely pub
E. V.
Cesia wondering member of staff that was highly attendant to our table was so polite and made our evening. Thank you for having wonderful staff
L. B.
We had a fab evening in Porterhouse, staff were great and super friendly, especially Pat! Thanks guys!
R. W.
Beer selection is vast. There is plenty of outdoor seating for a central London pub. Visited during social distancing measures and it was well organised though not enough staff for the table service to work seamlessly. Kitchen shut early which was not well communicated. Only way to access menus was through qr code. Maybe pre/post social distancing will be better.... The beer choice is the main plus to be honest
N. C.
Every time I go to London I end up finding another favorite place to go. Right now it is the Porterhouse. I just love the place, it has everything. Cosy little corners inside downstairs bar, main bar area and the best outside area around. On top of that you have some awesome beers and really tasty food. I will be there again next week, cannot wait. RECOMMEND TO ALL
M. M.
Great spot in London for a pint.
M. M.
Great service throughout, drinks were reasonably priced given the location, would recommend if meeting a group
R. A.
Really good. Try the Nitro Red.
Excellent service from really friendly staff.
g. t.
Good choice of beers. Nice decoration and atmosphere. Can be a bit tight for space when busy. All round nice bar.
J. O.
Very nice place. Different places to sit including closed or open, great place to talk. Upstairs bar was closed. Went there after work. Got busy fairly quickly. Quite big place. Very friendly staff. although its great that they clear the tables and got rid of empty glasses it was disrupting the flow of the conversation especially when it happened like 4 times in the span of 2 hours. Not sure if they do table service but the top bar being open would have been nice. Great decor with different types of beer
W. C.
Awesome beer, awesome staff and awesome vibe.
D. J.
Great food, fair prices
u. H.
Nice ambiance with a excellent choice of beverages. Try the stouts! The service is good and friendly. Unfortunately the pizza was cold and the kitchen ain't flexible with leaving out mushrooms from a frying pan. They bill before service...why?
Z. E.
Great selection of beers, reasonably priced. Amazing atmosphere too!
M. M. C.
First-time visit and we loved the design and decor. Will be back.
R. U.
Excellent porter, could have drunk more but needed to eat and food stops at 6pm on a Sunday. That's a shame because we would have eaten and drunk a lot in this lovely pub
M. E.
Great beer quick friendly service .
C. C.
it's big. A good pub to visit at least once.
א. א.
Nice place but its self service
M. L.
Amazing choice of beer. Great customer service
S. S.
Really excellent atmosphere, excellent range of beers and good service. The pub is large, but thanks to an imaginative layout and great decor, it still feels cosy and intimate.
If you like porters and stouts, or indeed fancy something unusual from far flung corners of the globe, the Porterhouse is well worth a visit.
M. S.
Huge pub. Good atmosphere but not too loud that you cannot hear anyone. For such a big place, there is rarely a queue (at the main bar, smaller side bars could vary) regardless of how busy it is. The bar staff are quick and attentive, which makes a nice change from having to spend time to catch their attention like in other establishments in the area.
M. M.
Huge place with amazingly large selection of different beers. I even tried a mango beer here. They also have live music. I liked the way the place is set up at different levels. They also have an outdoor patio area with large tables, so this is a good place to come to as a group.
B. N.
The house porter is nice, and there is plenty of room. Also a diverse bottle range
D. “. O. S.
We had a lovely lunch here 8 veterans and were very well looked after.
O. P. -. S.
Good place to grab a beer in town, always has a good selection of sports on and live music downstairs. Their own beer selection makes a nice change from a lot of the usual suspects in other pubs. A good, fun bar for locals and tourists alike! It does get extremely busy sometimes, however!!
J. L. S.
Very buzzing place just off Covent Garden with copper pipes exposed. This is beer lover paradise, with a wide range of beers on tap/bottle. The place also hosts live music, which contributes to the energy of the place. A bit of a maze the first time you visit as there are a lot of stairwells over the two floors of the venue. Great for a night out, but perhaps not so ideal for a quiet drink.
B. P.
Top notch venue. Staff are all jolly and friendly. I look like a thug and often get vetted by serious door staff at many places, but even the security staff are personable and welcoming and full of smiles.
The pub itself has many nooks and crannies. The whole place is an adventure. Love it here.
J. S.
Excellent venue, good indoor and outdoor seating areas. Nice food options with decent sized portions presented beautifully. Great non large brands selection of lagers etc. This place has character though not good for long conversations as the music is simply like a rock band on either ear drum.
E. W.
It's a nice pub, spread over three floors with the normal amount of drinks selection you would expect. It is in a central location and as such it's going to get busy, really really busy. If go early before the rush hour you can normally get a seat.
There is a large smoking area outside of the venue and ok weekends it has security staff on each floor as well as outside.
The top floor bar is normally not that busy as such you can get served quicker here.
L. C.
Regardless I'm not a fan of Irish pubs (lived in Dublin and not my favourite place..) this bar is absolutely great, good atmosphere and live music during the weekends in covent garden! And of course...large beers menu you won't regret ;)
R. H.
Great selection of gins, with the raspberry flavoured one being particularly good.
Brilliant place to meet someone after work for food and a few drinks.
Staff very professional and friendly.
I would certainly come back in the near future
D.
Lovely little place, friendly and relaxing atmosphere
E. P.
Absolutely great pub. Tonnes of beer choices and great live music. But the bar can be incredibly busy (10 mins+) - however the bar staff are brilliant and really do their best to get everyone served as fast as possible.
R. K.
What a fantastic pub to drink and have a light snack in excellent staff and all the little nooks and crannies showing yet another bar or themed area will definately come again and looking forwsrd to england ireland rugby mstvh nect year going to make a special visit next year as i'm told bedt pub in london to watch it
A. G. M.
Live music from 8:30 to 11 pm and the best stout from Ireland. The red ale is also incredible.
R. M.
The service was fantastic. I would like to mainly name Sam who was the hostess with the mostess. Honestly we were taken care of by the whole team through a storm and not a frown was seen. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good ale or a cocktail while passing through Covent Garden ❤️
I. R.
Huge pub with loads of little tunnels and chambers (areas) just a couple of streets away from Covent Garden.
Great home brewed selection. Reasonable prices compared to big brewery competition.
Always an event on, so always a good, bustling vibe.
H. B.
Place is a maze! Amazing layout and full of fun rooms. The staff are amazing as well. If you are around the area for a night, definitely need to visit. Drinks are typical London area price. Different crowd of people as it's quite renowned.
D. P.
This is a very nice Irish pub. Great atmosphere and great selection of drinks. There is a small outdoor area but inside is definitely the place to be. It has a cool look and is split over multiple floors. There is also a great selection of international beers
V. T.
Big pub. Good luck finding somewhere to sit
S. P.
Been here for drinks only, and always have a good time. It has a very cool space to explore. You'll find rooms below, seats up top, along with a great metal railing decor everywhere. Staff were polite and nice as well. I just came for drinks, which were good. If you are meeting friends here, have fun finding them, there are so many nooks to hind in. As a central London pub, it’s a great space.
T. A.
Interesting place ,needs more lighting. Spacious.
Would go again.

C. W.
Nice pub, a few different floors and rooms.
Great selection of beer.
J. F.
Loved this bar. Great live music behind the bar which was a bit different. Friendly staff. Even the security were nice and found us somewhere to sit! Fab atmosphere, decent night out and highly recommended.
G. C.
The Porterhouse is Covent Garden is a lovely pub that we visited on a Saturday afternoon. Many beers on offer and a drinkers pub although people we were out with eat the night before and said it was good. I’d go for beers here myself but give the dinning experience a miss as its too busy.
K. P.
Nice own made beers on tap in the heart of CG.
R. J.
great venue worth a visit if only just to see the place!
set out on several floors and half floors can be confusing when you first see the place but its really quirky and fun. lots of smaller nook type tables as well as some bigger open areas so should be something to please most groups sizes
beer is good and staff are polite. food is questionable value so pick carefully from the menu (share plate is really not big enough)
V. N.
Love this place! It's huge, really cool set-up inside with loads of space and different levels and bars. Live music - unrivalled selection of beers. Hands down one of my favourite places for a drink - after work or on the weekend.
R. M.
Some great beers here (especially the stout) and it's a deceivingly large bar. Music was good too, but if you don't want to hear the band you can just move elsewhere. One of my favourite bars in London.
E.
One of the go-to pubs in London. Drinks are not excessively expensive and food is on par with other pubs. However, the place got a nice atmosphere as it has got some cool interiors and layout. They also have live music at times, which is not always common for pubs. Location is great too - super central which makes it a great option to start a night out at.
R. C.
Great place to eat and drink, massive inside its spread over several floors, live music as well.
A. M.
It's huge, but the seating is arranged so that it seems quieter and more intimate. There are so many different beers that it's really difficult to choose, but it was a great place to while away a couple of hours between the mattinee show we'd just been to and the meal we had booked for later. They do serve food here but we didn't try it.
T. H.
Excellent place if you like beer! So many to choose from all over the world. Good food menu too, better than the average pub. Me and my friends have come back here many times over the years.
The decor is really cool too, as the building used to be a brewery a long time ago so they have this theme running throughout..
A. R.
Great selection of beers and shows live rugby with a big screen downstairs. The place is a maze of different levels and seating areas, giving it a kind of quirky appeal. Can be very busy during six nations weekends, but the atmosphere is really fun!
J. J.
Superb pub and very quirky with little gathering areas spread throughout several floors but is very popular and gets extremely busy. We arrived at 4:20 on a Friday afternoon and struggled to get a seating area for our group. The Porterhouse also serves food as well as an extensive beer list and there is seating outside if you prefer.
Z. E.
Great selection of beers, reasonably priced. Amazing atmosphere too!
S. G.
This is the MOTHER OF ALL PUBS!
This place brews their own beers.
This place has 4 levels of entertainment.
This place has a friendly staff, well versed in beer talk.
This place is going to change your idea of what a pub is.
l. c.
Nice place, but drinks not so good.
R. D.
Great little pub in the middle of London with a maze of different seating areas offering plenty of options. The own brand beers tend to be very tasty and they have plenty of options. Outside seating is great in summer/on warmer days although not so appealing for non smokers.
E. U.
Great place for an international feeling. Similar to New York style of bar. Excellent selection of beers but be aware that they don't have all of them. Very spacious with plenty of corners for more intimate feeling. Age group 30 +. Prices are high!
C. S. d. S.
Great place to hang out with friends and enjoy different beers.
I. S.
Great place for a drink and a bite to eat. Excellent selection of ales, stouts and porters. I was well impressed with their food too – we had a vegetarian platter to share and a mushroom burger with chips.
Lively and buzzing atmosphere. Loved the décor with exposed brick walls, dimmed lighting and an impressive collection of unopened stouts and porter bottles. It gets quite busy and crowdy on Fridays after work, so booking is highly recommended if you would like to get a table.
t. s.
Great selection of craft beers, friendly staff and reasonable prices for the location
J. M.
Beers from all over the world. Friendly staff.
A pub straight out of fairytales and fantasy stories. Lots of tables in hidey-holes for your friends to prepare for your next dungeon run ;)
Probably my favourite pub in all of London.
N. P.
Cool aesthetic (think warehouse, meets brewery) with a fantastic selection of bottled and cask beers (some are even brewed specifically for the pub). Wine and spirits are also well catered for.
There is outdoor seating for the summer, a cellar bar and a whisky bar upstairs, which is usually a little less crowded than the main bar area, especially on match days.
One of the nicest pubs in London, off the main street and well worth a visit next time you're thirsty!
M. L.
The place is huge and they have a wide selection of beers. The staff was friendly and did the job well. I thought it would take a long time because of the size of the place, but everything was served pretty quickly. It was 6pm on a Sunday and they didn't have any more draft beers though. Very good fish and chips.
N.
I've visited this pub a number of times when I've depended on a place for my group to have a relaxed drink.
It always delivers with a variety of drinks on tap and bottled, and different places where you can sit to enjoy a cold one, watch some sport or listen to a live band if one happens to be playing.
Staff are friendly and the ambience feels like a pubby bar, which is great for London.
Recommended.
C. W.
Beautiful maze like pub with copper pipes and quirky features. Massive section of draft beers. Brilliant live music in the basement with a great atmosphere. Very popular and difficult to find a table at peak times.
A. S.
Great beer and decent service by bar staff Authentic Irish bar. Live sports available.
L. C.
Great selection of beer and whiskey. Beet menu split into nations, and has someone for everyone from Belgian Trappist ales to an American peanut butter stout (which I tried, and I love it). Good couple house stouts available also, I didn't try any lagers or ales but plenty on the menu. Also the Saturday we were there they had a decent live band on, so entertainment was good. Lost a star from me as it was difficult to find a seat, but it was busy rightly so.
G. C.
This pub has the best employee EVER - Pat!!!! He welcomed us and found us a great table in a pouring rain. He was a hero! Thanks Pat!!!
K. H.
Good pub, good selection of beer and friendly staff. Would recommend arriving early or reserving a table as it does get very busy. Worth noting this pub is quite big and on multiple levels and quite dimly lit, perhaps not the easiest to access.
N. M.
Great porter and oyster porter. Really like this pub great environment
I. C.
A multi-level Irish pub with a great selection of beers and a very well stocked and reasonably priced dedicated whisky bar hidden away at the back on the top floor. Don't be put off if there is a crowd outside, there is often plenty of room inside - either upstairs or on one of the sub levels.
E. S.
Really nice pub with multiple levels and tucked away seating areas enveloped by a maze of brass pipes. With live music on the group floor and an array of beers to chose from its a great place to catch up with friends
R. V.
Amazing pub, could definitly get lost in here. So many different bits. Really great selection of beers, ciders and other drinks and staff really friendly. If you like a pub, go here!
P. L.
Brilliant Porterhouse.
B. C.
Great place to eat, drink and socialise
J. L.
Very nice looking bar. Love the different levels and all the pipes around the place. Also a great beer selection. I had a stout taster with three different beers which was very nice. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
E. J.
Outstanding beers on the strand. Great atmosphere and super friendly bartenders. Upstairs, main floor, downstairs, it's all good. Enjoy a pint in a fun atmosphere and soak up the mixture of tourists and locals all around you.
S. M.
Great pub with a fascinating layout and plenty of space on a quiet day. However, can get really busy especially Fri/Saturday evenings and during sports events. Good selection of drinks, cocktails aren't that great though.
R. w.
Massive pub with a huge selection of beers to try. Been here on a Monday and the atmosphere was still excellent. Fun staff too. Well worth a visit, the food is pretty decent as well.
J. R.
Love love love this place. While it can get a bit touristy so close to covent garden, it has enough secret spaces and cut off rooms, like The Dingle Whiskey Bar, that it feels like an inception of pubs. The beer selection is huge and love that have a regular selection of Belgian brands.
T. F.
A large bar venue with a lot of interior charm, with several spaces or ambient themes to choose from. A whiskey bar, a cocktail bar, a live music stage, and a few others. Friendly and professional bar staff. I visited in an afternoon, so quiet, but I'm sure it completely transforms at night times and weekends into a busy and cheerful place to be.
A. H.
Good beer selection, has beer from all over the world. There's something to cater to every sort of person, including big screens for when games are on, and outside standing areas with heating for larger groups. The decor is fantastic too, and there is a large variety of seating arrangements for groups of different sizes
J. H.
We came in knowing nothing at all about the venue and expecting a dingy old London pub but were really pleasantly surprised by everything. The interior, while quite dark, feels clean and cozy and there's a great selection of craft beers on offer. The highlight is the whisky bar upstairs with a very knowledgeable bartender at hand to help you choose from their truly impressive range. He said they're really focusing on improving their whisky offerings at the moment and are getting lots of new whiskies in - we tried the Daluaine 16 year old and Kaiyo Peated at his recommendation which were both amazing. There's definitely some delicious drams here I haven't seen elsewhere.
E. C.
Beer selection is great. Staff are always on point. Food was very good.
L. B.
Lovely bar across split levels. Overcrowded. Better in Dublin. Still has an Irish feel and with the same great bottled selection. Would it hurt to have a few cask ales though? Their own stout is way better than the best known brand! A must for Dubliners!
T.
Really nice pub with multiple levels and tucked away seating areas enveloped by a maze of brass pipes. With live music on the group floor and an array of beers to chose from its a great place to catch up with friends and workmates.
J. C.
Oh boy, I'm going back there again!!!!! Went back again today ,England v Ukraine 2020 Euros night. Been there this afternoon. Covid safety aware. Pre book for table advised.
Great staff, great atmosphere, great food.
Lovely sports bar off Covent garden in centre of London.
Def recommend this place. Great for a date too.
J. M.
Really nice inside. Good beer selection. Wings were tasty. I'll be back.
R. C.
This pub is amazing really good. The beer selection is very large indeed. The bar has large outside area to which is great. I look forward to returning some time soon
D.
First class whisky bar, both in terms of stock and knowledge of the bartender. A very enjoyable afternoon, would recommend to whiskey drinkers of all levels of experience and none. Welcoming and reasonably priced. Will be back.
I. J.
Lively venue for after office drinks or social gatherings. Friendly staffs.
C. B.
Felt like London's version of Rock Bottom Brewery. Not bad for a pint or okay food, but don't expect a quaint little pub experience here. The meat pie was about average and chips with cheese we're flavorless.
N. T.
Great pub. Good atmosphere, even though it can be crowded and noisy. Good selection of beer, especially Belgian ones. And I love their whisky room, good selection. Nice large front terrace when it becomes too noisy inside
N. D.
massive place. Slightly loses its soul just by being so vast but the service is great and the beer selection impressive so cant really complain. Great place to meet a group a friends to start an evening. Not sure Id stay for more than 2 or 3 drinks though. Decent outside area too for smokers.
J. D.
One of the biggest pubs in London, it is on 3 floors Ground and First floor are to sit and chill whilst the basement has a bar which accommodates live music (check it out!). Has a very wide range of international beer as well.
A. H.
Was so glad me and my husband found this place! After living in Dublin for 6 years we thought we'd miss this place, but to find out there's one in London is awesome. Great selection of drinks. Haven't tried the food yet.
C. B.
My second favourite pub in London. Great beer, great atmosphere and friendly staff! The food is OK but it's what you'd expect from pub food. Have recommended this place many times to friends.
A. H.
Nice pub / bar very close to Covent Garden, with a good selection of beers.
B. E.
A good selection of craft beers and Porter. Plenty of screens for watching the sport. Bar staff are good, but you may have a wait at busy times. Lots of levels with tables to seat an eat.
G. S.
Great venue across 3 floors, many bars, stage with live music and an upbeat crowd. Didn’t try the food but the whiskey list leaves little to desire, must be one of the most extensive in the capital. Good selection of other spirits, ciders and ok wine list. Great for couples and groups alike, will be back!
S. M.
Popped in for a couple, just to chill out . Nice place
C. L.
Probably the best and the biggest pub in town! Make sure you go there with friends, you definitely get lost inside the labyrinth of hidden lovely corners where you can have a sit and enjoy your drinks. Inside tere are couple of big screens where they usually show some football matches or have a live band playing nice music on a busy weekend evening.
First time I have been in this place was a get together birthday drinks of one of my friends. Everybody loved it that night!
Come here if you want to impress tourists or people who never been here before. Great place!
A. L.
This multi-level pub is a good spot to stop for a quick pint, usually with a live band blasting out loud music. It can get very busy and is quite crammed and tight inside. It's good when it's quiet though!
K. L.
A pub experience quite unlike any other. You get the impression from the outside that it'll be grand and stately inside but the interior is more like a steampunk level from the Crystal Maze. It's easy to get lost because the layout is unconventional, with small nooks and seating areas everywhere, bars tucked into odd corners and frequent stairwells. The range of beers is staggering and the food is nice too. The I've time I ate here I had a couple of sharing platters that were really nice. Prices are probably average for London but I live in the North, so it seemed a touch pricey to me.
N. C.
It's a rambling pub set over about 12 floors or mezzanines with a wide selection of keg beer and an even bigger selection of bottled beers. The staff have been properly trained - they make eye contact with you as soon as you hit the bar, will take orders while in the middle of serving someone else. This would be normal back in Ireland, but in London it's a rarity that should be celebrated. Food is okay - decent enough selection of burgers and pizzas. Beer is great, and you get to drink with live music most evenings too. But the place is so big that if you don't like the music, you can wander off to another part of the bar for a bit of peace and quiet. Something for everyone
A. R.
Wow! They did spend a lot of time on the details of this pub, the interiors have a lovely feel to it. Does feel like a Porterhouse. Loads of craft beers available on tap - didn't bother to eat so cant comment on that.
A. R.
Always packed but great atmosphere, specially for after work drinks. Beer garden always seems more full than the interior, even in winter. Amazing building with lots of hidden spaces. Great selection of beers although some of the smaller bars tend to run out of draught beers early on in the night.
L. V. H.
Multi level bar with a Victorian industrial vibe. Outside seating with heat lamps as well. Friendly service with mix clientele in the heart of Covent Garden. Great place for a few drinks.
R. V.
Great selection of beers including lots of Canadian ones for Canada Day. They serve a lot of their own beers as well as other craft brewed beers which is refreshing given the other options around London. Really fast service too!
E.
Great pub with a very cool atmosphere, huge with many seating spaces, but still felt cozy. Great selection of beers. Friendly staff offering table service.
C. H.
Huge venue but also a bit of a maze. Be sure to check out the whiskey bar on the top level.
Ground floor bar has a great selection of bottled and draft beers. Staff are always excellent.
S. F.
Great pub. Huge variety of beers, great food and reasonably priced. Also very cool layout for a pub, multiple levels but alot of bottles placed around the walls of the pub to give it a different style. Would definitely recommend calling in here for at least a pint if you are in the area.
M. E. O.
Nice big bar for a fun evening. There are many different areas to sit with different vibes. The basement often has live music and there is a large outdoor patio for warm days.
S. L.
A big labyrinthine pub with a good range of beers and a cocktail bar upstairs. The downstairs bar has the best bar service generally.
Food is usual pub grub, pretty good, not mind blowing.
Arrange where to meet before you arrive because it's massive and signal is poor.
M. C.
Really nice place. Had the Plain Porter at the recommendation of the helpful bartender. He mentioned that it's won the gold medal as best Porter in the world multiple times.
I took my beer outside and enjoyed the beautiful day on the patio.
C.
I was a bit surprised that we had to queue outside, as the place had obviously plenty of space (even sitting space). However, the queue did not last long. The bar is exactly as the Porterhouse in Dublin, which was one of my regulars when I lived there. They have the same beer, which is great! The front open garden is quite spacious!
A. B.
Best bar in London with an incredible array of beers to choose from around the world! You can get lost in the multiple levels and rooms this bar offers with plenty of seats dotted around. This bar shows live sports and has live music on certain nights!
M.
I got 'wow'ed immediately by the amount of floors in this place! Great place to socialise if you're in the area. I only went downstairs 2 floors, but you can get soft seating as well as the usual barstools and chairs and tables.
K. J.
One of my favourite pubs in the city to watch sports and grab a drink. Great atmosphere and service. Reasonably priced for the area too.
B. L.
One of my favorite spots in London. Their plain Porter is a delight. It's an amazing pub with several floors and loads of seating. Does get very busy on on the weekend but it adds to the atmosphere.
C. L.
Interesting layout of floors which allows both people watching but also not getting disturbed by nearby groups if you find the right table. Good range of beers both on tap and bottle. Gets buzzing on weekend evenings which is fantastic for atmosphere, harder for having a conversation with those you came with.
t. M.
Visited there yesterday with a group of old friends & it was great, lovely spot, very, very busy but the staff were excellent. I am in a wheelchair I was immediately approached by the security lady on the door who told me I could easier access pub via side door & where disabled toilet was, I told her we were going to have drinks outside the front, she then kindly said let me know when you want use the ladies & I will open side door which did many times during the afternoon. She was amazing how she was able to notice me moving in the crowds & swiftly dash to open side door. Thank you kind lady & Porter house for making a great day even better. Can't recommend enough!
M. M.
Good beers, outdoor space neat charing cross. Even have tayto crisps for the Irish people's!
J. M.
A large pub with a great atmosphere.
The crowd is always lively with lots of tourists, great for people watching.
There is an outside area which has a covering so even in the rain you can still sit out.
S. C.
Lots of levels make this pub a rabbit warren, you can find somewhere quiet. Alas we had a hen party for company. The porters are excellent and worth a visit for alone. The best bitter was light and fruity and a cut above most best bitters. Beware the London prices. Most enjoyed the well presented food - I had a tasty halloumi sandwich.
K. G.
Great pub, I absolutely loved the atmosphere. All of the copper pipe and brass rail was so handsome. Speaking of which, the bartenders were very good looking as well. I had whiskey, not beer, can't comment on that.
N. S.
Atmosphere was terrific, food was good too as of bar food standard. People were the main attraction here as creating an upbeat atmosphere. Probably not a good place for couples looking for a restaurant with romantic and quiet night to spend with.
R. B.
I have to give this bar 5 stars - it is my favourite pub in London.
There's a wide selection of beers, real ales and ciders spread across five floors of fun.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there is a live band playing classic soft-rock hits that everyone between the age of 20 and 35 will know and love.
It's always ridiculously busy on a Friday and Saturday - but that only adds to the atmosphere in my opinion.
A. P.
Amazing selection of beer, great atmosphere, decent live music, shows all the sport you want, serves decent food, and has a fantastic, multilayered interior structure. Only real downside is the price, but it's completely in line with Central London pub expectations. Can't go wrong if you're undecided as to where to have a drink.
D. S.
Great selection of high quality draught beer. Rest of the menu feels quite mainstream compared to the generally high quality of imported beer available in London. Saying that a very extensive range of Belgian and Trappist beer remains a safe bet. Difficult to get seating anytime. Not too impressed by the TV's playing sports upstairs, doesn't fit into the general theme of the place I feel.
R. S.
Amazing staff, Sam in particular went out of her way to seat us for a birthday on a busy Saturday. Even with restrictions of covid we had a brilliant time and will definitely be retuning soon!
H. H.
Huge Irish pub with an amazing selection of beer (some of them are brewed by porterhouse). The food is ok, not amazing but it's not too expensive either. It's almost always very busy and very noisy, it can be difficult to hear your friends! Nice live bands downstairs.
M. W.
Pretty chilled place, with good selection of drinks and food too. Gets busy, understandable given the areas, but this place is much bigger than expected with multiple floors. You can book a table until 6pm, but crowds are often moving so it is possible to get a table.
T. H.
Really fast service for a busy Christmas night
A. K.
Brilliant Pub. I love the multilevel layout. Great for watching the game or meeting the lads.
Food was average. We had the platter. It was a bit oily and low quality. But you can forgive it, because its not really the kind of pub where you are there for a nice sit down, evening meal..
This place gets very very busy though, especially on St Patricks Day..
S. B.
A unique pub but not an irish pub. Huge and full of little corners and while busy the staff are bang on so queues go quick. Well worth a visit if in the area .... even the securtity were pretty cute / polite ;) and if you like premium lager order the pilsner and not the pee weak chiller
... but everyone to their own
A. G.
Place is ok - but if you want a decent evening head up to the whisky bar on the top floor and be wooed by Alastair. A good selection, and a great and genuine conversation about whisk(e)y.
D. H.
This is a really great, central London pub. It has a superb collection of beers, loads of live bands and sport on the tele. It is a really big place with numerous floors and a handful of bars. It is the perfect place to go out with a work team. Get here early on, secure a corner and drink, drink, drink!
K. M.
Unparalleled selection of world beers. If you're looking for somewhere for a quiet drink and some conversation, look elsewhere - although it's layout has multiple small spaces, nooks, landings, mezzanines and alike, it is still quite a noisy bustling place. Really would benefit from a more efficient bar layout to ease swift service as well. Been a while since I ate here, but if it's still similar, it's tasty enough and fare suited to a session, it's just not going to overly stimulate your senses.
M. E.
Great beer quick friendly service .
J. B.
Very busy pub in an excellent location just off The Strand. I only had the stout which was very good.
There is large outdoor area in front of the pub but this has very limited seating which was disappointing. If this was improved, I'd give 4 stars.
M. G.
Many floors to sit on. It's like a maze but in a good way. So many drinks on offer. I had Dublin Pale Ale (think it was called that) that I recommend!
A. d. S.
The best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Good list of artesanal beers.
M. C.
Love this place, at least 3 different bars all within one bar. They are not always all open but make sure you explore this place, it's like a maze with loads of hidden spots to sit and drink.
J. F.
Popular after work venue with wide variety of drinks and a good kitchen. Plenty of seating outside, not so much indoors. You can usually order drinks from roaming staff if you can't face the queue at the bar.
M. “. P.
We went for after work drinks and were very pleased with the venue and service. Get there early in the day if you want to grab a seat in the sun. The inside felt a little dark but that was relative given that we came in during a very warm, bright and sunny day!
M. B.
No visit to London should be complete without a visit to the Porterhouse! Love the decor, the service, the atmosphere... A well-run and well-placed pub. Seats are hard to come by at times but I'll continue to return here on every trip to the capital.
M. M.
This used to be my favourite pub in London.
It's huge! There are so many nooks and crannies to sit in and chill and they also have live musical entertainment. The main selling point is the sheer amount of beers this place has to offer, on draught, in cans & bottles! It's very unlikely that you won't find what you are looking for!
J. L.
An amazing selection of beers from around the world. A real effort is made to show you where they come from. The venue is huge but still manages to get very busy. Keep looking around as this huge maze of a place may still have some seating somewhere that people haven't found yet.
L. V.
Very nice pub, however they don't have any kind of generic Irish beers, on tap or bottled. Only their own - which is very good and a broad selection.
Also have a large selection of bottled beers from around the world.
L. A. M. g. r.
Although expensive you get great food and plenty of choices with what to drink also very interesting decoration

My girlfriend and I visited on 30/12/17 for drinks and dinner and to watch a live football match before going to a nearby theatre show. We arrived at 5.10pm, all tables on the ground and upper floors were taken but there was still space downstairs. Staff were polite, efficient, friendly and helpful, changing the TV channel for us and offering a sample of a new Winter beer just in. Our food order arrived in about 15 minutes and was very tasty, as was the oyster porter. Based on this experience we would definitely go back.
S. B.
Busy and cramped table. If it was quieter this visit would have had 4 stars but the table next to us thought we would like to know very loudly how boring one of the members life was with expletives galore. Ordered a Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich and as somebody who has had plenty of the real deals this was nothing like a Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich. But edible but a disappointment as was after what was advertised.
J. W.
My friend and I went here specifically to visit the Dingles Whiskey Bar section. The flights are very fairly priced and Alastair (sp?) has crafted an absolutely brilliant selection. There was a "Whiskey Roullette" that is a genius idea and entirely worth doing. Will be going back here again.
Y. M.
Excellent. Three floors of great beer on tap, great service, and to top it off, food that could easily be served in a proper restaurant. Also have love music some days on the lower floor. Must try Red Ale , best I've had.
C. M.
Great Irish pub without the clichés!
Amazing array of beers available including their own-brewed stuff (Which is great). So many nooks and crannies that such a large venue always seems intimate.
L. B.
Love it, great atmosphere, nice selection of beer. Pricey but that's probably just the area it's in. I've brought many a client to this spot for a few pints and everyone has always had a great time.
D. W.
Great beer selection and atmosphere just off The Strand. Very busy early evening so can be tricky to get an outside seat. Recommended as a meeting place after work.
F. L.
Fantastic beer selection. It's a massive pub with many different little areas and a large area outside. It gets packed on weekends though, so be prepared for a wait at the bar if you go during peak hours.
E.
Probably the best Irish pub in London. Located very close to Covent Garden, the pub has more than three levels, all of them with slightly different ambience. The whisky bar is excellent and they host whisky tasting almost every month. The cocktail bar can get very busy but I think you can order your drinks using an app, but I still haven't used it. I don't like beer but I know they have a huge range of beers, being the only one I like, a strawberry one called fruli, good option for people not very keen on beer. This is a great place to take visits
A. W. A.
One of my favourites in London. It's actually a branch of an Irish/international chain and obviously the scale (it is huge) is only possible like that. Still, it actually manages to keep some charm and it is a fantastic place to meet friends for a pint (if you can navigate it properly). They have the most ridiculous large variety of bottled beers I have ever seen; the food is manageable for what it is.
S. J.
Good selection of Porterhouse’s own beers and a nice outside space. Just off the centre of Covent Garden and really well priced considering the location. Very friendly staff and although they serve their own food there are ample options on the street.
T. N.
The Porterhouse is a great pub dining experience. They have lots of different kinds of beers to choose from that you can’t find anywhere. And the foods are also terrific and satisfying. Very cool place that surely everyone will love. Having a good time and a soft music that plays all throughout the place.
L. J.
I went there a few months ago with a few friends; easy to get to place.
Large and spacious, service great. We didn't eat there for we did go for a few drinks.
Place was quite around 4pm, but by the time we have left around 6pm it did get busy.
The place like a maze, but I like that.
The place has free WiFi, which is good because you don't get mobile phone network.
S. M.
Great pub, the staff are very friendly.
Good selection of drinks.
I Always use The Porterhouse as a meet up venue.
The only negative is that they had run out of coke zero the last few times I visited.
A. P.
The place is great to have a few beers. All English type of beers (water-like) so don't expect too much taste. The dinner was just medium quality, don't come if you expect something ultra tasty, but come if you are friend of ketchup and mayonnaise
m. H.
Arrived at 1230 for a quick lunch and a pint. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The beer was good and the burger was excellent. First time here, won't be the last.
J. D.
Great selection of beers and good friendly service. Very popular, so finding a table can be hard at busy times. Great atmosphere which goes on until late and if possible get a table outside.
M. R.
Really good selection of beers, though it gets busy on Fridays and Saturdays (as you'd expect for a bar in Central London, especially the West End). Luckily the bar is huge, with a large footprint over multiple floors so you can usually find somewhere to stand.
J.
Absolutely massive pub. Huge! Good selection of own-brand drinks. Can sometimes be a bit of a wait at the bar, but that's because the place is massive. If you search upstairs/downstairs, you'll probably find another bar that's v quieter.
L. B.
Cracking big Irish pub in London just off the Strand near Covent Garden.
Prices normal London tackle but apparently cheaper than most places around there.
Staff very friendly and would defo recommend.
R. R.
Great pub to get a few drinks after work. Well located just off Charing X and Covent Garden. Evenings tend to be busy especially in the outside seating section but its massive on the inside. Parts are like a warehouse and parts like a brewery with gleaming copper/brass pipes. Upper level has loads of spaces to stand and drink along its pathways, which look down on the ground level. Highly recommended for a visit every now and then.
B.
Lovely little pub. Loads of real ales and a few lesser known lagers. You can sample the beers to find the one you like. Very helpful staff. Great atmosphere.
G.
Visited last night and must say the service and staff were excellent. Taking on board fully all new safety measures felt great to be back in and could not fault the service. Look forward to going back soon.
G. G.
Just as good as the originals in Dublin. Great selection of own brewed beers! They also sell plenty of other beers and whiskies. Cozy atmosphere for such a big place.
S. S.
Great meal & a lovely atmosphere
M. J.
This is one of my favourite London pubs. There's loads of different little places to hide away for a cosy evening or you can grab a group of mates and dance the night away with live music. Been on a few different nights of the week and seen several of the house bands, all are great and play the sing a long classics we all know and love. Fab for friends and family.
J. M.
Great setting, lovely atmosphere, good choice of beers and outstanding customer service. I come here for a couple of drinks with friends before having a meal in Covent Garden. I'm a wheelchair user and we originally thought there would be no chance that we would be able to get in. However, before we knew it the bouncer outside mentioned there's a door round the side that can be opened so I can get in. She then showed us where the disabled toilet was. It was so surprising that a place like this be so accessible. I just wish we knew it is accessible earlier as we would have gone straight to the Porterhouse rather than trawling round Covent Garden trying to find somewhere!
B. S. (.
This pub is away from the busy bustling covent garden, so it's nice to get away from the tourist. The pub is dimly lit, and cosy. They have a wide variety range of beers.
J. C.
Love this place, at least 3 different bars all within one bar. They are not always all open but make sure you explore this place, it's like a maze with loads of hidden spots to sit and drink.
J. C.
I want to pour scorn on this place but always end up having a great time! Yes it's packed and loud and in tourist central but if you manage to bagsy a table then it's usually good.
The food is average but there are a lot of beers. After work crowd is usually out in force during the week and the out of towners dominate the weekend.
The live band is actually OK and you can avoid the scrum at the bar by using the online ordering app.
A. K.
This place is huge and has a great atmosphere. They have a good selection of beer too. I tried their pizza and was nothing to write home about but did the trick.
M. R.
A large pub near Charing cross/west end. Plenty of space inside and outside (heated in the colder months). Inside is made up of many levels so it feels quite cozy. Can get reasonably busy towards the end of the week. Good selection of beer/ales.
K. D.
A great spot busy any time of day - get here early to get an outside seat and always check out the craft brews on tap, everything from unique IPAs to unique international fruity imports!
L. W.
A seemingly ordinary pub from the outside - but a beautifully quirky and unique venue on the inside. There are so many levels inside the Porterhouse the whole thing becomes a fun little maze, with passageways and staircases running between the various bars serving ales, beers, spirits and cocktails. The Porterhouse is often packed.
R.
Nice selection of lagers and ales, won't find your Carling here. There are lots of little spaces you can get lost in, which adds to the character and keeps the place interesting because of its unusual layout. Downstairs gets a live band later, doing covers from the usual pisshead faves like oasis and kings of Leon. It's pretty busy, the crowd is mostly behaved, with a couple drunk shirt-lads here and there.
N. R.
Multi-levelled pub close to Covent Garden serving it's own range of beers. Plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, gets intensely busy on a Thursday and Friday
S. H.
I am not a real ale man so I always find the lagers gassy and too hoppy/ peaty (taste of bananas) but the place is glorious. Good for large groups and one of the few pubs that has actual outside space for smokers or general milling about.
A. L.
well what can I say amazing decor like you have been inside a highly polished brass steam punk venue. Amazing beers at suitable prices for where it is located bang centre of the big smoke so yes its a little bit more but wow its a find.
P.
Decent pub food and real ales. The fridges host espectable selection of somewhat pricey bottles of from around the world. As there's no shortage of screens, I go here to watch the rugby. Good atmosphere, a copper-piped cathedral of sport.
J. M.
I was flying solo and couldn't find a seat to eat but they took care of me even though it was jammed. Great craft selection is huge. If I were with a group and planned on a late night out I'd definitely make sure to go early and sit outside. No complaints
K. M.
One of my favourite pubs around Covent gardens. Large full of character. Fine selection of draft and bottle beer. Dont expect to find real ale here though
C. C.
it's big. A good pub to visit at least once.
B. N.
Amazing selection of beers. It is great for birthday drinks or a quick dinner and beer. Also good for beer tasting and getting lost in the many rooms. They also have a spirit room upstairs.
K. S.
Great place for a night, one of the best places I have been to when it comes to drinks and atmosphere. So good that I've been here countless times. The live music that is played here is just awesome. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a great night out.
I. “. S.
This place has one of the largest selection of beers you are likely to come across! Fruli on tap which is one of the reasons I come here. It can get very crowded in the evenings though. Three floors and a large mechanical clock that adds to the atmosphere of the place.
S. C.
A staple of the area, it seems to be boom or bust. You're either the only one in there, or you've got no chance of getting to the bar! The atmosphere is great and when the band is playing it's a great place to be.
The snug upstairs at the back, with the smaller, bar is a better place to have a date or conversation but for sheer energy you'll want to head downstairs to where the band play.
l.
Great pub with loads of tables so often easy to find a seat even when busy. Most beers are from the pub owners own brewery but lots of options and really nice beer
M. K.
Good but not fancy beers on tap
F. &. S. T.
I like the outdoor space best but inside is very spacious but.... still cosy because of the decor and lightning. They need to fix the section as you enter the indoor bar, it's really dark and has steps, I nearly became a cropper twice! .
M. H.
Really cool decor and great selection of beers
s. d.
Very quirky pub.
Has lots of hidden bars and great lighting.
There are different bars also
Food is excellent.
I have a Christmas drink there every year.
G. N.
Boujee pub with pretty cool interior design features! Nice selection of different types of beer! A little pricey but this is to be expected in Covent Garden! Short walking distance from some nice restaurants.
N. P.
This place is cool! Has a bit of a steampunk feel to it. Dimly lit. Bit of a maze, there's steps everywhere, but that helps make it different from any other pub. Friendly staff also.
A. H.
like the inside of a ocean liner from days gone. Loads of brass and little alcoves to have your private conversation or stand out and people watch on mezzanine or watch sports on the big screen. outside area under heaters to smoke if desired. really good busy pub. I heard there is dress code of a collar, but i got in without not realising. I guess Christmas time rules are less.
would reccomend for groups
T. S.
Great pub. Great seating areas. Food was good just small portions.
Lots of beer selection. You'll have to keep going back to get though the list.
J. S.
Busy pub/bar over three levels with a large smoking area at the front. Reasonable choice of beers on draught. A good place to start the night in the Covent Garden area.
A. H.
Nice lively pub good service great range of craft beers
W. P.
Large pub over several floors. Fair surface outside at the front too. Good selection of their own beers on tap plus many international bottles beers. Live music downstairs at Fridays and weekends.
A. B.
Great service. Fantastic selection of beers. Quite a few tourists but then it is a prime location in London
P. R.
One of my favourite pubs in London Wrasselers xxxx stout, top draw. Great pub a must visit for beer choice. Highly recommended.
J. G.
There are less people waiting in the middle bar so just go straight there. Place is great, big and it's not possible to try half of the beer they offer. Suggestion: get yourself a gift wrap from a bar and continue another day.
life music on Saturday
D. J.
Great food, fair prices
A. M.
Great value for this part of London! Huge range of beers and ales. Small menu but lovely food. Great atmosphere. Recommended.
B. P.
Great independent pub even the beer loves the place
C. C.
wide selection of beers from around the world for reasonable prices.
plenty of space to sit and stand. friendly staff.
pub itself is lovely and it doesn't stink!
M. D.
I hold monthly get togethers here and every time a 'Local' will thank me for introducing them to this pub. It's in a great location and usually has plenty of staff on (each floor has a bar which always looks busy but you get served quickly). There are several rest rooms also. Please note: no children are allowed at all (regardless of the time of day).
R. S.
Has a wide range of drinks to choose from, but very busy and hard to get a seat. Quick service at the bar and reasonable prices. Aesthetically pleasing with an unusual layout.
O.
Actually quite cosy for such a massive place. Lots of little areas tucked away on the mezzanines and around the 5 different bars. Very cool mix of stylish industrial design and exposed copper.
Gets rammed when there's popular live sport on, so be warned of the potential for queuing outside while they balance capacity. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
Massive beer and cider list; great house draughts and substantial international bottled selection. Their stouts and ales are worth a few tries.
D. L.
My to-go place for a drink with some friends. Good variety of alcoholic beverage available at reasonable prices. Always a crowd there that continuously brings along the good night vibes! Pub food available and sports regularly shown on the large screens.
J. M.
Ive now been to every Porterhouse, and while the ones in Dublin are better, this is solid enough. Staff are a little distant, probably because theres no real sense of regular clientele. But the beer is good and there are nooks and crannies to enjoy it in. Try the Oyster Stout as its a good example of the type.
C. G. D. S.
Fantastic selection of beers from all around the world, prices are decent for convent garden, very cool atmosphere and a winding maze of up and downstairs bars and seatings where you can hide, bands also play on the regular. Highly recommended.
