Reviews of The Rake
N. T.
Found this little gem of a real ale pub whilst at Borough Market. Really good range of ales available. Recuperated here for a while enjoying a couple of Stouts 😊.
Absolutely recommended if you love your ales
C. H.
Nice range of niche beers and brews. Reasonably priced, especially for London. Small venue, with pleasant outdoor heating.
Toilets (men's) not overly nice.
M.
Very nice selection of different ales. The television screen with information on: the currently available beers, the location of, percentage and taste of beers and even how recently they were tapped is a new and innovative idea. Only thing stopping 5* is the no smoking signs in the beer garden, which is odd as there are multiple ash trays (hidden in the periphery and not on the tables) and a pub with a space available to smoke without losing the table is what most smokers seek (especially in an establishment with such limited seating available as this!)

Stopped in for a pint last night.. good boozer and great location right next to Borough market… was a little underwhelmed by the beer offering… had a pint from Alphabet that was decent but nothing else much appealed…
Worth a visit purely based on the location though.. and a good chance I just caught a bad board or one not to my taste.
Loved the wall art which I assume is comment from visiting breweries etc… looked to be a good outside seating area too… a little too cold for me to be trying that out!
J. W.
Craft beer fans look no further! Such a fabulous choice of beer in this small courtyard bar! Friendly, knowledgeable staff and great beer
S. P.
Good little spot with a variety of craft and specialized beers. Staff are friendly and the service is good. Covered outside seating on picnic tables and stools.
H. S.
Amazing beer and location. Lots of keg and cask. Some seating inside and loads of seating outside. They don't have a food menu but as you're right by Borough Market, that's the obvious place to go.
L. S.
One of the first London places I reviewed on ratebeer.com, back in September 2010. Have visited many times since. Many times.
One of the original craft beer bars of London. Although, in the last two years The Rake has been surpassed by no less than five other bars, in my opinion, in terms of beer variety, beer quality and certainly atmosphere. The bar itself is modest and quite small, with a slightly larger patio adjacent. Most of the people, however, stand around in a nearby parking lot drinking their beers. The tap selection was decent on my first visit, with several British bitters, American brewer Stone, and some other oddities. There seemed to be an extensive bottle selection in the fridges behind the bar but I stuck to the draught stuff. The main reason I went to the bar was for a BrewDog tasting with brewer James Watt, which was superb. We tried three rare beers, including the AB:03, the Devine Rebel Mortlach Reserve 2008, and the End of History. The tap line-up seems to change quickly - I saw two changes just while I was there on a Tuesday evening - so I look forward to returning to try new beers. Great place.
P. B.
Great selection of beers. I’ve visited on many occasions over the years. What surprised me most, was that on a busy Saturday afternoon, when footfall surely must be at its highest, the staff were lacklustre and unwelcoming. The tables were full of empty glasses. Fingers crossed that this was a one off.
A. K.
Lovely place to enjoy a pint of brewed craft beer. Although a bit on the pricier side.
Amazing beers with great varieties!
A. B.
Great little bar with amazing craft beers, including a surprisingly tasty coffee ale!
C. M.
A chill space in borough market with a fine selection of beers. Good for a pint or two with your market grub.
J. R.
Nice location, and and great selection of beers. Is small but has a good terrace
w. t.
The best place for drinks in Borough Market. Great selection of craft beer which they change time by time. Reasonable price. Small crowdy place but people love to pop in for drinks.
O. R.
Great beers and friendly staff - makes for the perfect place for a pint 🍺
P. V.
Cautious about recommending this fantastic little bar, in case it becomes too popular. It's just lovely, in the heart of Borough Market, offering some fab artisan beers and lager. No food here (you can bring market food into the small garden) but lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff and just a lovely place to spend time. Oh, and a good wine selection too!
R. F.
Awesome place to get a pint! A vast selection of beers and a great service. Pints vary from 4£ to 11£. If you’re in the Borough Market area, you should check it out.
A. T.
The Rake is a super tiny but amazing little pub, they sell a wide range of beers from both the UK and abroad and you'll always have something new to try when you visit.
Don't let it's tiny size out you off, grab a pint find a spot either inside or out (they have heaters in the garden) and the chances are you'll end up chatting to a tourist or local about how cool the place is.
R. W.
Great, choice of beer, good service, a good proper beer pub.
s. g.
Extremely polite and friendly staff, good selection and suggestions. A great little pub to go to.
C. D.
Second time I've visited the place and I was a little bit disappointed with the beer options on tap. I've tried 2 of them that were only OK. The place itself is small, but has a pleasant outside space.
C. B.
Nice little pub with a great selection of proper craft beer. Right on the edge of Borough Market
T. R.
Friendly atmosphere with limited inside but extensive outside seating and standing (some with heaters for the winter), in this craft beer heaven with a large choice of craft beers on draft, with a good variety of local and unusual brews. Perfect for a drink before dinner or for hanging out on a hot market day.
F. R.
Really enjoyed this little gem, what an incredible choice of beers on offer for a decent price for the middle of London.
I. L.
A great place for craft beer lovers. One of a few places in London where every beer is a new discovery. Friendly, down to earth atmosphere with great staff.
M. B.
Cool backstreet craft pub. Brilliant selection of drinks and very knowledgeable staff. Outside space could do with a rethink
B. M.
I've been coming to The Rake off and on for years and it never disappoints. Always something new I've never tried. The staff are pleasant, which is impressive considering the number of tourists they have to deal with on a constant basis (myself included).
I make a pilgrimage to get a toasted cheese at Borough Market basically anytime I visit London and the Rake is my beer-home.
D. O.
Small but very pleasant pub serving a wide range of beers.
A. H.
Intimate indoor area selling very wide range of quality beers and ciders. Nice little beer garden on the edge of the bustling Market.
Ver nice.
A. S.
Good selection of beers, friendly staff and a nice outdoor courtyard. Beers not cheap but about what you'd expect for the area.
Staff happy to have food delivered and eat at your table. We had a Just Eat - loads of choices nearby.
J. P.
Absolutely brilliant exhibition. Well worth a visit if you can. I would definitely go again xxxxx
J. W.
Beer selection pretty good.
However pricing is a bit OTT compared to other sites with similar products & the garden is next to the market toilets so you drink your £7+ pints with the fetid odour of urine/etc wafting so you feel more like you're drinking tennants super with the local drunks at a premium cost..
C. O. N.
Easily five stars - there’s a great selection of craft keg beer. The orange IPA we had was cold and cloudy - truly thirst quenching and delicious!
R. W.
Good selection of drinks that rotate every now and again. Right next to Borough Market and you can grab your food and sit down here to eat. Has a small sitting area with a few tables and a parasol for when it's too hot ands sunny.
J. B.
Excellent range of tasty beer.
N. H.
Excellent beer bar in the heart of Borough Market, London. Great range of craft beers from around the UK and globally, good draught, good cans.
A. c.
Fantastic selection of beers, dingy and no fuss service. Exactly what a watering hole should be.
S. K.
A great selection of beer, really nice staff and very accomodating given the circumstances. Social distancing was perfectly adhered too and it's easy to book online. A fantastic pub to visit, and way better than many of the options in the area. If you're a tourist looking for a good London boozer, this is a solid one.
D. R.
Great selection of beers and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lovely place to get an interesting beer after shopping in Borough Market!
M. M.
As always, just ridiculously nice. Lovely bar.
E. C.
Great little spot and decent service for drinks. Worth booking if you want food from the market, you can buy and bring it in to eat. Our table was next to the air vents which made it noisy though.
D. E.
One of the first to the craft brew scene in London. Always good rotation of excellent beers that you won’t find at your typical London pub. Excellent location in Borough Market. Highly recommend.
r. m.
Excellent selection of NZ beers for opening of NZ beer Month.
D. C.
A great craft beer bar on the edge of Borough Market, with an enclosed outdoor space and lots of interesting beers. A great space to sit back with friends and sample the beers!
J. W.
It is a nice pub for real ale lovers. However, my German Weisse beer was £7.50- that is madness. I think local Tesco and an Erdinger in my garden from now on for me!
D. F.
Amazing. Go here for the beers and great staff
G. B.
This used to be my top beer destination in London before the craft boom... unfortunately, these days they only seem to have third tier beers, whether on tap or in the fridge. I had trouble finding anything worth tasting! Would have given 2 stars if not for the friendly staff members.
I. N.
Very small pub with a good selection of craft beers. Grabbed some good in borough market then had a quick lunchtime pint.
A. R.
Nice little beer hole, selling guest beers. Good gluten free selection and non-alcoholic options too. Nice that it's in the market too.
B. A.
Do you like beer? I mean really like it. Not just like drinking whatever is in your glass. Then come here. Not much to look at. But cosy. Comfortable. Homey. Great location, just by Borough Market. Great beers. Always changing and fresh. Great idea to have a beer monitor that gives important info on the beer selection that is always up to the minute. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I rarely give five stars, but as I said if you really like beer...
S. K.
Always a great spot for a good drink, with a fantastic selection on offer for all tastes. They're doing a great job during the epidemic, having made the ordering process safe for customers and staff, and the whole outdoor space feels like a good place for a drink, even in the cold and rain - with the coverings and heaters.
D.
Amazing little find, friendly staff and a great selection of craft beer. No food but you can grab something locally and chomp it with a refreshing beer!
A. G.
Nice little place in Borough. Amazing selection of beers (they change them quite often) and reasonably priced. Small but with a good size outdoor area. Perfect for an after-work pint if you are in the area. And if you fall in love with the beers... they have a stall in the Market with very helpful staff.
K. P.
Great little pub with a great range of craft beers. Has limited seating capacity so you may have to stand or take away
M. P.
Great craft beer in borough market little seated area get there early it fills up. Staff are great knowledgeable and friendly.
A. S.
A hidden gem - we'd walk right past it if we weren't specifically looking for it in the first place. Located on the outskirts of the Borough Market, this craft beer bar features several taps and well as bottled beer in a tiny room as well as a nice little backyard with several garden tables. The beer is mostly local and of good quality, thus highly recommended for anyone exploring the UK craft scene. The owner is extremely cheerful and friendly. Overall, a great find!
C. d. L.
Amazing selection of beer and knowledgeable staff. Some of the Beers are bloody expensive but the staff do point this out before serving which is fair!
D. K.
Shame about biffa bins. Probebly less bin smell before closeing
M. C.
Only one decent cask ale on for a Saturday night that's not good. If you like craft beers (which I don't) you may be ok in this bar.
D.
Small but funky bar with 101 types of beer (although most of them seem to be pale ale for some reason). Inside fits about 12 people, outside 20. But it's actually a really nice and friendly place to hang out if you want to avoid the crowds in Borough Market.
L. S.
Lovely little pub with reasonable prices. Massive range of beer and ciders.
L. R.
Really good, small, beer focused pub. Accepts walk-ins, bookings required to guarantee a table, but if one is not booked in when you turn up they welcome you to sit there.
Great selection, staff know their stuff
K. S.
Nice and cosy craft beer bar. They always have around 20 different taps.
R. P.
Terrific pub with a great selection of beer. Craft beers from all over the world that should satisfy most drinkers. Wonderful customer service and an excellent place to spend a Saturday afternoon.
S. C.
Great little beer pub! Serves a ridiculous selection of really nice beers brought in from near and far. It's tiny inside, but there's lots of seating on the patio area (with heaters, parasols, etc. for the usual British weather) and you can usually get a seat outside of peak after-work hours. And even if you can't get a seat, there's loads of standing room outside (also covered, in case of rain). It's situated just behind Borough Market, so very good for the start of a night out around the London Bridge area, but also great for a long stint - especially if you want to work your way through their extensive menu.
T. H.
I always recommend the Rake to friends so I suppose I should do it publically as well.
The bar staff are wonderful, they know their products, but they don't take them too seriously so you never feel intimidated. They are also very quick and while the place can get quite busy for it's small size queues at the bar are always dealt with in a speedy manner.
The range of small breweries beers and ciders and the rotating menu really makes this place special - don't come expecting to find 'london pride' labelled as a 'craft ale'... You might find something love more or you might regret your choice but you can always use this as an excuse to try another pint.
The inside space is very limited but they do have a 'beer garden' space outside with seating. On weekends it can be a bit of a squeeze but you can normally find a perch on weeknights of you're quick.
The beers aren't cheap but they do have a range of price points around £5-6 being at the low end. These prices are pretty on par with similar establishments across the capital.
M. A.
Love this place, it always has amazing beer choices with the staff being super helpful and down to earth to help you with your beer choice. The inside is tiny with only 2 tables so if visiting on a weekend it is a bit of a squeeze however they do have a heated outside seating area which is good if you can grab a spot. Will deffo visit again next time I'm in the area.
F. C.
Not one of my best experience to be honest, but is a nice small pub, in the heart of Borough Market, where you can sip a beer while you can bring food in (the don’t have a kitchen) to have a dinner.
D. W.
Just the spot for a few quick ones. Few seats outside away from the hustle and bustle.
M. S.
I could try and nitpick between 4 or 5 stars, but any craft beer pub mere feet (meters?) from the awesomeness that is Borough Market deserves the benefit of my doubt. Sure, there's not much indoor seating, but if you're there on ANY kind of tolerable weather day, there's plenty of room outside. If it's cold, wintry, and rainy as it usually is when *I* go? Then you just squeeze yourself inside, order a pint, and make some new friends. IF you love craft beer and need a break from the Market, The Rake is 100% worth a visit.
C. H.
One of the first gourmet beer bars i went to in London and also one of the smallest pubs I have ever been to. It is a great place to try some unusual beer and they have 100 or so different types of bottles. It can get very busy so at these times try somewhere else like Market Porter or the wine wharf, otherwise on a nice afternoon it is perfect for sitting in their garden and enjoying beers from around the world.
A. P.
Excellent place to sample new and spent beers. Knowledgeable staff, huge range of bottles and cans complemented by frequently (like, daily) changing taps and some casks. In general provides modern craft beer styles with serious ABV, with a good selection of European traditional and usually one or two cask ales. More of a sipping pub than an all day session.
n. v.
Phenomenal little bar just outside of Borough Market with a massive beer selection. It is a small bar but it has a lovely covered patio area you can drink under a canopy. The walls are covered in greetings & autographs from visiting breweries and they've got a light snack menu that features bacon flavored snacks I haven't been able to find anywhere since. The staff are all very knowledgeable on the different types of beer. This is truly a beer lover’s beer bar and a trip to Borough Market without stopping here for a pint is a waste!
J. P.
A great selection of beer and other booze. The pub itself is small, but they have doubled the size with a covered and heated outdoor sitting area. You can also stand in the market, when it's closed and packed away, if the pub is really full. Cheers!
L. P.
Amazing selection of beers for any beer lover. Only downside is if you find a particularly good one it might be gone in a few weeks owing to the rotating selection. On the plus side you can always try new ones. Also very small both inside the pub proper and the outside area, there's a parking lot behind where you can stand when it's busy but if it is then getting a seat is highly unlikely
C. M.
Always a great place for a pint great beers 🍻
R. W.
If you get bored with London pubs, visit The Rake. It's more like an American bar. They have a good selection of craft beers and good vibes. My favourite outing to Borough market is to buy a focaccia on the market, grab a bear at The Rake and consume them together.
C. J.
It's okay, it's has interesting array of tipples from which you may choose. In these CoVid lockdown days there is always a crowd in a queue wanting something right now during their stay at the Borough Market to add to their ready made meal so take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and the variety at the Rake.
A. L.
Nice intimate tap room with plenty of choice on available.
C. H.
Really good selection of beers (12-15 on keg), plus a couple of casks & fridge of cans. £5.50-10 for a pint. Cool enough spot, not sure about all the scribbling on the walls. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
J. M.
Good selection of craft beers. Beer garden is a decent enough size. This place is hidden at the back of borough market and as it is hard to see is often queiter than it should be. Plus, they sell pickled onion monster munch. What more do you want?!
M. E.
Great beers, friendly staff
J. S.
Really nice atmosphere, brought our own food there and enjoyed a few pints. Really friendly staff and good service and a good selection of beers. Definitely going back
R. D.
Set down a little side street close to Borough Market is a small bar with a canvas covered outdoor area that serves a great selection of craft beers. It gets pretty busy around 5:30 as office workers from the nearby City meet over excellent beers. The price of beer varies from around £3.50 a pint up to £6 but in fairness it is a good range.
N. O.
Great selection of craft and real ale.
L. O.
Lovely cute bar in an excellent spot with handy outdoor space. Great independent feel. The beer selection was slightly unbalanced/boring on our visit to be honest, but as it's constantly changing, may have been a blip.
S. P.
Great choice of beer with very friendly and helpful staff to give you some top tips on which one to try. It's a little more expensive than other local pubs but worth a visit to try something different. Nice outside seating area too.
D. P.
Wonderfully oddball little bar with a cosy and friendly atmosphere, plenty of space outside for summer drinks (well heated in the winter too). Signatures and comments from visiting brewers adorn the walls to add to the lovely quirky nature.
If you enjoy a range of interesting, eclectic and oft hard to find beers in a setting with real character, if you haven't been to the Rake yet, make it your mission to do so soon!
J. B.
Fantastic little spot to take the occasional visit for a quick Friday lunchtime half. Don't be afraid to ask the person serving what they'd recommend or for tasters, they won't be condescending at all if you're not particularly into your beer and are looking to learn more about the types and what make them unique.
R. E.
Very nice pub with an excellent selection of beers and some lovely staff
Location is also perfect
D. W.
Fantastic beer selection (from breweries near and far). Spoilt for choice! No frills no fuss. Prices though are high (definitely the highest I've seen recently on many visits over the years - used to be very reasonably priced). Cask the cheaper option but nearly all kegs on our last visit were well over 6 quid a pint! Russian roulette with staff: some friendly and let you try the beers; one rolled their eyes expecting you to know the exact taste...needs an attitude readjustment (we're not all CAMRA experts)
D. B.
Very small pub slightly at the back of Borough Market. Always has 5-6 ales on tap and numerous bottled beers. Run by beer aficionados who are always knowledgeable and helpful. Prices can be a bit steep for some of the beers. The small bar area has tall stand-up tables with some stools and they have a small beer garden which is great in the summer – last time I was here they had a chef with a BBQ going.. Generally busy but not packed as some of the pubs are. If you want something different from your usual City pub – go there.
C. B.
I visited here on Easter Thursday around 9:00, the place is small, cosy and on the right side of you thinking this is a bit strange, but I do like it! The bar main bar can't be more than 400 sq ft, so pretty small, the walls have tons of street art graffiti on them, giving it a nice, urban feel. The clientele on this Thursday evening were a mixture of suits, students and everything in between. Large choice of draught ales. Not sure about the bottles, but that looked pretty extensive too. Nice drinkers, nice helpful bar staff. Other people have recommended drinking just halves to get more choice, I'd agree. There's also am outside smoking area / decked area too. Can't wait for my next visit!
H. J. S.
Lovingly squished in near Borough Market and with space in the bar for no more than 20, craft beer fans will adore The Rake. There is a small beer garden, packed in the summer, covered and heated in the winter so they'll find room for you somehow.
Whatever you're into, there's a fantastic selection of beers here and the knowledgeable staff will gladly make a recommendation. Personally, I love the selection of fruit beers.
J. W.
Craft beer (cask, keg, bottle, can) mecca in Borough Market. It's very small inside and the beer garden, so to speak, isn't much bigger. I like it a lot honestly, but would suggest a visit at a quieter time for the full experience. Staff can be variable in temperament but then who isn't?! Probably the best offering in Borough Market despite it's size.
D. C.
The Rake has an excellent beer selection that changes frequently, from light pilsners through pale ales, IPAs, double IPAs, dark stouts and very niche beers: there is something for everyone. And if you are not sure, they are more than happy to offer small amounts to try. The bar itself is quite small, but there is a good outside space and plenty of spillover into Borough Market. Highly recommended.
S. W.
Great to be back post-covid. Well set up inside to take your orders and pay at a designated table before you could take your beers out to their normal garden space or into the wider space (with some tables) behind.
M. W.
Good beer. Friendly staff. The actual pub is a bit wanting. Just a plain room with a small dull outdoor area. Always rammed when I've been so have never managed to find a seat. Good location for the market.
z.
Incredible selection of beers - you can try things you have never heard of. And the little garden is quite nice. It is a bit on the expensive side though - from £5 to £15 for a pint. And the space inside is quite cramped.
D. M.
Nice little pub on the fringes of Borough Market, they have around 20 beers on tap Inc USA and UK beers and the staff are happy to give tasters and advice. Small beer garden at the side is very much a sun trap and is a great way to spend 30 mins
J. S.
Nice tiny little piece on edge if Borough Market. Great cider friendly staff.
D. W.
This place is TINY but is a must visit for any beer afficionado. The selection is great, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable but I would definitely head over here when the weather's nice so you can spill out into Borough Market. Although the bar staff are generally pretty good at letting you know how much things cost, remember to ask just in case... some of the imported keg beers from the US can cost upwards of £6 a pint so be careful!
L. D.
Wide selection of craft beers, which is awesome. Very cosy indoor space, and similarly small private outdoor space. The toilet is a public loo for Borough Market; which can start to smell pretty rank, but aside from that, great pub.
C. D. V.
excellent selection of beers, you can also order 1/3 pint beers
L. B.
This could have and should have been 5 stars. I can live with the over crowding. What I cannot live with is over £10/ pint ( if an Imperial stout maybe but it wasn't). Such a shame because the beer was outstanding. Maybe I just chose expensive beer. Market Porter around the corner though charged £4.90/ pint for even better beer.
M. G.
Excellent beer selection, nice outdoor seating including IR heaters.
S. “. H.
A fantastic range of beer albeit in the smallest space. Some pints are quite pricey and the bartenders will warn you if that's the case when you order. You're like to get elbowed by the crowd if you stand near the bar. On a summer's night, it'll be best to hang around in the beer garden. It tends to be busy in the early evening but eventually the crowd does die down - so do persevere!
A. C.
Great venue in terms of location. Very much COVID-19 friendly - they’ve done everything they can to implement a safe zone for everyone. Would be a 5 star in my opinion BUT sadly, we were served by some really rude staff members on the day.
L. M.
Great selection of real beers, ales and ciders!!! Good little garden area as well. Hidden gem that's far better then you standard pubs in London
G. D.
Oh bar of my dreams. Well done Richard.
M. M.
Tucked in the back of Borough Market, this is one of the best beer selections in the area, but it's not cheap either. However, the staff typically are helpful with selections, and with many choices on tap, it allows you to sample plenty of choices from the UK and abroad.
F. L.
Small craft beer bar, located conveniently in Borough Market. Always a new selection of beers, and a trendier crowd than many of the old school pubs in the area. Love stopping in here when in the area.
M. J. K.
This tiny bar has the best craft beer. My husband and i visit the pub frequently and always try a new craft beer. The staff are extremely knowledgeable. There is an outside drinking area that has heaters and comfortable seating.
N. A.
Go there for the beers. Don't expect much else.
Approx a dozen keg lines and a few cask. Nice little sun trap of a patio out back.
Tiny little place but a little gem alongside the tourist trap of borough market
A. C.
One of the best sites in London. It's not an old school historic pub but it does have excellent beer. The staff are cool and the beer is excellent. A must visit for beer nerds in London.
T. K.
If you're into your beer then there can't be many places in London that are better than this. Great selection, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Decor.... hmmm, what decor? I'd say they've made no effort but it's almost as if they've made an effort to make it this basic. Cheap tables, a rudimentary gazebo that you may find in your own back garden (unless you've invested in a nice one), and erm, that's it. The gents toilets are so like public toilets in a park that we wondered whether they had used the toilets as their starting point and decided to open a pub right next to them.
However, come for the beer. It's all about the beer. Visit and drink the beer. I think they may sell wine as well...
J. M.
Great selection of beers on tap and by the bottle or can. On the pricier end but if you are a beer aficionado worth a visit. NB not a big venue.
A.
An excellent craft pub, right in the beating heart of Borough Market. It can be packed at times, but rarely to the degree of neighbouring, London-standard pub options. The Rake offers an always rotating selection of taps, backed up by some choice bottle and can options behind the bar. A definite must-visit for beer aficionados and friends of beer aficionados alike.
R. W.
Still the quintessential craft beer bar in London, still honored to have signed the wall as a brewer. Note, garden is a great spot alternative to WFH right now!
G. S.
A unique pub with the most impressive beer I’ve ever tasted. It’s not cheap, but for beer like that, price will never be an obstacle!!!
D. J.
Great selection of beers with lots of character. Focus very strongly on the ale, as it should be. Standing room only most of the time (which is fine) but lots of atmosphere. Friendly crowd.
S. r.
Absolutely brilliant place just next to gastronomic heaven, Borough Markets. No easy to find, which is good thing. In this place you can touch the real atmosphere of "honesty". Very simple place with excellent amount of beers. We stopped there 3 times during our stay in the market... dont know about next hours, jeje.
T. M.
Not the cosiest of pubs but an amazing selection of beers. And at £4.50 for pint of well kept cask ale, it's probably also the best value in the area.
M. P.
Fantastic little bar. It gets crowded quickly as the place is very small but they have a good selection of craft beer. The crowd is very friendly as well. They have alcohol too so don't be afraid to bring a friend that doesn't drink beer.
G. R.
We like the rake. Extensive and ever-changing selection of brews including old favourites and new experiences. The occasional "wow, what was that... mmm" doesn't go amiss either.
Some outside furniture that won't blow away on the breeze this time, too.
C. J.
One of my favourite places for great beer.
Contrary to other reviewers, I've always found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable.
Too many times I've popped in for a quick half and ended up staying until closing.
S. O.
Really nice tiny pub tucked round the back of Borough Market. Good beer selection, no food but you have dozens of choices in the Market. Will return.
O. J.
Probably the best beer bar around London Bridge. While seating and standing space is limited (probably don't venture out if its raining), the selection of beers will keep you there for one more.... or five.
G. S.
Not many better places around LB. beers are great, but could do with a few more less than 6%!
P. C.
Tiny pub with a larger garden that spills out over Borough market in the summer. A huge selection of unusual beers with probably a dozen or so on tap. You can come here and not drink beer!
P. A.
It's one of only a few places in Borough you can find craft beers - the Simon Tanner notwithstanding - that are changed weekly.
The little covered patio outside is a good drinking spot after a sunday lunch at Hawkesmoor (opposite). On work nights in summer, people spill out into the car park end of Borough market, which can be a fun start to a night out.
V. S.
Nice cozy place, great extensive beer selection. The guys know their beers. You can sample a few before making your decision. Nice little outside area, heated in winter
K. H.
Love this place. It's tiny, so don't expect to get a seat -that's part if the charm! Great selection of beers and a relaxed atmosphere.
M. H.
Very disappointing selection of beers for a craft beer pub. Expected much better. Too much on the strong (6.5% plus) and pricey side.
T. R.
One of the first proper craft beer bars. The actual bar is tiny but there is outdoor seating. Always has a good selection of beers but be careful some can be a bit pricey.
C. G.
Great beers and friendly staff. Not at all cheap for the more esoteric tipples but that's par for the course. Very small pub but a great seating area in the sun during the summer.
Z. H.
Small pub, knowledgeable staff, huge bottled beer selection. Only problem is that it is really very small and hidden away in the depths of borough market. Worth visiting in the summer when you can spill out into the market.
M. M.
Really great choice of beers, friendly and accommodating staff and a real effort made in terms of sanitisation and safety during these covid-19 times. Would highly recommend
R. M.
Classic little bar with loads of options for craft lager and beer on tap. There's option for pint or 1/3 pint which is useful if u you want to try the huge variety this house offers
C. M.
Place has a great vibe, good beers, one of the the bar tenders (I think his name was Jake) was super friendly and knowledgeable about the beer, would recommend to anyone looking for proper craft beer in the city /borough market area
A. B.
One of the best craft beers in london, this place is very small and well hidden behind borough market. The beer selection is very good with lots of bottled choices as well as offerings on keg from crate, brewdog, point snd camden town to name a few when I was there. The interor is covered with messages from brewers and beer lovers which gives this place a real local feel and the bar staff are very friendly and knowledgeable on the beers they sell and will attempt to find you a beer matched on your preferences.
A. W.
Walked some distance to find this place. Great selection of beers..a bit pricey, but it is London..Miserable unhelpful staff and nowhere near enough seats inside. Go there if u want to drink good beer, standing up with no atmosphere!
N. C.
Always worth a trip to The Rake when passing anywhere near Borough Market. Great selection of beers both on draft and in bottles. Staff friendly and knowledgeable too.
k. w.
One of the most smallest pubs in London in buzzy Borough market area, some very interesting and unusual beers on display, not a place built for comfort but well worth a visit.
C. P.
Always fantastic beer and friendly staff. Very small inside, but reasonable seating area outside. A visit to the loo is an adventure, but a slightly sordid one.
L. A.
Great beer selection, friendly staff and taking sensible coronavirus precautions - a great stop on tonight's pint walk, thank you!!
J. M. P.
Yes it's pretty much always packed nowadays, but if you find yourself feeling like a delicious, well earned beer after the hustle and bustle of Borough Market, this is the place to go.
The "no crap on tap" sticker says it all really.
So stop by, grab a round, then stand outside (preferrably, particularly on a sunny day) or in whatever corner you can find (not as recommended). Then either go for seconds or continue exploring the South Bank.
W. H.
Craft beer is on the rise in London and the rake offers a great beer experience but without the feeling that good beer is hipster.
No crap on tap is the slogan and I agree.
Its small but always have found somewhere to perch. Decor reflects that its about the beer and the company.
G. B.
Just fantastic! This bar is by all means my favorite one in London. I like the music, the food and most of all the beer. Furthermore, the service staff is always polite and friendly and the prices are good.
S. C.
Great service and atmosphere for an area that is so touristy. Really good work to get the outdoor area ready and beers as good as ever
S. M.
Hidden gem. Easy to miss it when you wandering around borough market. They have a huge selection of beers for such a small place. We went on a Sunday and it was a friendly place to wind down.
N. W.
Always an awesome selection of beers, but over £12 for a point of anything is a big ask, unless it's a triple or something barrel aged for a year at least.. prices have really gone up in this place :(
B. M.
As always, a great selection of beers on tap.
L. H.
Great selection of beers. Bartender knows what's he talking about and let's you taste the beer before you get the pint. The prices are higher, but I was expecting that, since it is a speciality pub.
I. A.
This place has been doing great beer for a very long time! It's very small so you may need to stand, or share table space, but that's part of its charm!
S. T.
It's a pub, with a 'beers' focus. The non-beer selection is adequate. But you're probably not here for that, and if you are then you're better off in the wine-bars / etc nearby.
Outside space is functional, and often expands out into the market itself.
Not really my thing, but friends flock here.
O. S.
Small but varied selection of beers. Friendly and welcoming staff.
C. B.
A little gem and not to busy, a very good choice of real and craft beers.
E. A.
Great selection of local and international craft beer. Not the most comfortable or pretty spot, but handy for a quick drink near borough market or London bridge. Crowded
J. G.
Great craft beer selection with a small beer garden. Excellent if you come early and bag a seat otherwise it's like any other boozer
J. W.
Great selection of beers. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. A hidden gem for folk who appreciate good beer.
G.
Superb beer and little pub. Experience tainted though by a bit of a condescending attitude from a couple of the bar staff and the stench of the gents loos wafting over the otherwise comfortable atmosphere on the decking outside. Scrub the gents toilets please, regularly!
J. G.
One of the best bars I have visited thus far in London. Excellent beer choices, knowledgeable bar tender, and plenty of folks to talk with. Just perfect.
J. F.
Best selection of craft beers in the London bridge area. Excellent place to go if you're a trader and you fancy a good pint of beer after work
H. R.
Great craft pitstop if you find yourself adrift in Borough. One of the most varied and audacious tap selections I've seen!
P. B.
Lovely little bar. Amazing choice of local craft beers. Good place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Borough Market
W. F.
Expected a better beer choice. Outside area busy but nice.
t.
Great craft beer pub. Has an outside food friendly policy which works well with location to Borough Market. Wish I knew about it sooner.
C. M.
A must book venue. Delightful staff. Thanks you!
T. B.
Cracking bar. Tables nicely spaced out. Happy days 😊
A. S.
Always well kept beer, if you appreciate good beer this is the place for you. It's a small pub though and can be often very difficult to find a seat after work though.
C. A.
Incredible selection of highest quality beers, local and import. Obviously hand picked by the knowledgeable and lovely staff. A real treat after a trip to the Market.
Z. P.
Rough and ready little bar (the walls inside are scrawled with random messages - like you'd find on a bathroom wall) with a fantastic selection of craft beer. A particular favourite is the banana beer - which suits sitting outside on their mini terrace on a sunny day.
R. L.
Great selection of beers, gets quite crowded but what decent pub/bar doesn't these days.
J. O.
In my opinion it used to be better here. There is still a good choice of beer but today there was only one cask offering. The real thing that lets it down is the indifferent service. I dont expect a lot but a smile and a please or thank you is surely mandatory!
S. G.
Cost beer place, bar tenders very cool and knew there stuff. If you like a good selection of British beers you will definitely appreciate a visit!
E. S.
Just go there. Massive selection of very unusual beers in such a tiny and cosy bar. Guys know exactly what they have. Plus there is a little garden to enjoy extremely rare sun rays.
R. S.
Great little bar with excellent selection of beers/ales etc
D. H.
Warm glasses, Belgian beer shaken before poured and staff more interested in socialising with each other than service. The prices are premium, unfortunately the service is not. So much wasted potential.
R. M.
Tiny little craft beer pub tucked just away from the madness of borough market. The pub has a really broad range of ales and ciders that change regularly. The overspill goes into a car park, and since its small don't expect a seat at the best of times unless you are there very early or get very lucky
R. W.
One of London's smallest pubs. invariably busy due to its location but they have a great selection of craft beers which seem to change frequently.
J. S.
If you´re interested in beer then go to the Rake. Not the biggest bar in the world - it might even be a contender for smallest bar! but it has space outside and the all important selection of beer that is constantly changing. Pay them a visit, drink some beer and be merry.
V. M.
Neat little pub serving craft and international beers, there's always something new on their menu. A tad expensive but their selection is worth it
J. D.
Very good selection of beers. Friendly staff.
F. B.
Nice pub with a very good selection of craft beers. Staff is really friendly. This one definitely deserves a visit. 🍻
L. N.
Small but perfectly formed. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the selection is consistently excellent.
J. K.
Large selection of craft beers (prices can be steep), with weekly events and amazing tap takeovers. A must-see pub in London!
F. F.
Awesome beer selection. The staff, mainly the one behind the counter, is not as nice as the pub, location and products deserved.
D. C.
Hand pump and draught craft local boozer
J. N.
Great small pub selling craft beer. Friendly service, ask for recommendations if you're uncertain which to choose. Don't come here to order Stella!
K. H.
Really snug, no-nonense beer bar around the corner from Borough market. Small inside, good sized patio. Great draft list.
M. (.
Great pub! Large selection, great location, people are very nice. Couldn't ask for more (except the early closure at night)
A. E.
Great modern pub: fantastic beer selection, brusque staff, good atmosphere. A bit small and can get busy, buy it's really well located next to Borough Market.
L. S.
Great bar selling a huge variety of craft beers. Great spot in London Bridge for a casual drink. Watch out on the percentages though!
S. I.
Tiny pub, fantastic beer selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Generally spills out into its beer garden and then into the market, so can get pretty crowded, as can any venue in the area of course.
A. W.
Great beer selection with very helpful staff. Tiny bar area but the staff do their best to make it work and the outside area is grand.
J. A. B.
Great variety of beer. Knowledgeable staff who'll happily guide you through the selection IF they aren't too busy.
D. D.
Great beer selection at a tiny pub. In warmer weather the crowd spills over into the parking lot and there's a bit more space, which is nice.
Y. A.
Great selection of ales and craft beers from the UK, Europe, the US and beyond. Really helpful staff and great location next to Borough Market.
M. D.
Tiny little place on one of the back streets of Borough. Cracking selection of beers and a friendly atmosphere.
Would definitely go back.
G. S.
Super selection of beers and yes you need a second mortgage for some of them but it's the same for a good wine.
P. N.
Lovely little pub with varied microbrewery beer range.
J. G.
Good beer. Very pricy tho. Not amazing decor. Go if you're a beer aficionado but not I you want a standard pub
C. B.
Good selection of beers :) nice stouts and porters available on tap also
D. W.
Small pub with a great selection of craft beers. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
r. m.
Amazing beer, but very busy (the mark of a good london pub) the bar staff know their stuff and are very helpful.
A. G.
They have a wide range of unique ales and beers to choose from set in a part of Borough Market. Makes for a great atmosphere
p.
Decent selection of beers, a bit on the tight side, too many smokers in the outside area for our liking though... #Bunintheoven
B.
Great range of beer. Covid precautions good. Staff friendly. Would book before arriving.
A. J.
Quaint, the manager was great and friendly.
M. C.
Splendid craft and specialty beer pub. The bogs and bins outside can pong a bit on a hot day. Selection of beers is excellent.
L. P.
One of the best places in London to try interesting beers, not too pricey for the location either! And a very good atmosphere
J. F.
Mainly outdoor seating/standing. Good choice of IPA beers - a convenient beer stand in Borough Market.
G. A.
Nice small pub serving many awesome craft beers (over 15) as well as some standard tap, nice gins as well
D. W.
Great real ale pub with knowledgeable bar staff. Ask them for a blend and be amazed. Mine was barley wine and IPA.
M. S.
Huge beer choice. Little oasis amidst the bustle of Borough Market.
M. H.
Fantastic bar but unfortunately ran out of beer not their fault...please destroy the property left as of no use to anyone now
D. T.
Great selection of beers with friendly staff. Allow you to bring your own food to eat as well👍
G. H.
Great variety of beers. Friendly and efficient service. ;)
I. D.
Small beer bar on outside of Borough Market. Interesting beers.
R. H.
Good selection of beer styles shown on clear digital screen, nice outdoor area. Reasonably priced.
S. M.
Great range of beers. An essential pit stop for beer enthusiasts in the area. Nice outdoor seating area.
P. J.
Fantastic little bar in the market with an impressive array of beers. Check the prices and strengths on the board before you order though!
N. R.
Absolutely tiny, but they sure pack in the beers! Several cask and keg beers, but excels in the bottle selection. Occasional BBQ and outside space are a plus.
J. C.
Best pub in borough market. Excellent selection, great sun trap of a patio and they let you bring in food from the market!
T. H.
The rake has around 14 drinks on tap, from ales to craft beers to lagers. It's very small, but you can stand in the heated outdoor section, or (unheated) car park.
B. W.
Currently sitting in the bar and just had two fantastic beers, they have about 11 remaining but I fell I can't have them all or it will ruin Christmas eve so it is mildly stressful
S. H.
Best selection of beers I found all week, great staff and hard by Borough Market, excellent
S. L.
Nice little boozer with a great selection of ales and craft beers. Great signage for the beer selection as well.

Great selection of beers from all over the country. not many places like that around this part of the town.
C. L.
Good pub, decent choice of beers.
B. M.
Amazing selection of beers. Sure, bit pricey and not the best sorroundings but a very nice stop along the way!
Z. P.
Great selection of craft beers, knowledge staff. Best for a Cheeky half when shopping in the market.
R. H.
Great beers and the staff are friendly and patient. Has the worst gents toilets in London, neigh Britain but it's where I piss, not drink so whatever.
M. T.
Great selection of ales which are changed regularly. It gets a bit busy on friday nights however there's plenty of space outside for you to enjoy your drink
B. L.
Always excellent beer selection. Shame about lack of seats when busy and sub par toilets
H. S.
Great little pub with loads of craft beers, and really nice knowledgeable staff to help you choose
N.
Excellent beers. Unfortunately they ran out of them all. We ended up drinking the very expensive beers (less than excellent for the price...)
C. B.
Great little pub with amazing selection, excellent barman Ed who knows his beers & very friendly, spent far too much!!
T. P.
The perfect place for those that enjoy quality ales and ciders. The selection changes so it is worthing revisiting anytime. Servers are knowledgeable and helpful. Love it!!!

A. R.
Great selection of beers and super friendly staff. Craft feel with lots but not that much space.
S. D.

N. R.
Great location (right by Borough Market).
Serves a large variety of craft beers (although do expect London prices)

Good choice of beers with outdoor seating area.

Good beer venue with ever changing menu. Some of the prices might come as a bit of a shock!
J. E.
Reliably good range of beers, relaxed atmosphere, heated beer garden... Can be expensive though, even for London.

B. S.
Really nice craft ale pub. Discovered this by chance and so happy I did. Highly recommended
B.
Good small craft beer pub. Superb selection of beer, setting is decent, toilets need some work!
D. S.
Good beers but only a small footprint, but luckily you can spill outside into Borough Market.
M. B.
MOST UNUSUAL LITTLE PUB WITHIN THE
BOROUGH MARKET AREA.
I WARN YOU DONT BOTHER TO TAKE YOUR CAT
IN THIS PUB,THERE'S NO ROOM TO SWING ANYTHING. THEY SERVE GOOD CRAFT AND
DRAUGHT BEERS.ALTHOUGH ITS SMALL IT DOES HAVE A VERY STEADY TRADE,
WELL WORTH A VISIT.
D. B.
Good beer. (Draft is on the *very* cold side). Not most comfortable place but still good
K. W.
The beer choice is always good, friendly knowledgeable staff.
H. S.
Small but an amazing selection of beers, thankfully you can spill out into borough market when it's not raining
I. H.
Lovely selection of beers, with really helpful and knowledge staff.
J. C.
No-thrills bar for the beer connoisseur. Has a DIY feel that's unusual in London Bridge and great service
D. P.
A pub filled with random bottles of beer and ale, if you like that sort of thing you'll love it.
It seemed to be filled with people who know their beer and work in the area rather than tourists.
R. F.
Excellent range of beer. If you're in borough market you need to visit
A. D.
Great beer selection good atmosphere but it's pricey
