Partner and I popped in on the 27th December. Music was quite loud, so quite difficult to hold a conversation without shouting to the person next to you. Drinks and food were nice and prices are pretty good for London. Although something worth bearing in mind when you visit is the ordering app for food doesn't always work properly, and we ended up waiting 30-40 minutes just for truffle chips and sweet potato fries to snack on with our glasses of wine. Staff were apologetic and helpful, though.

I Had a Sunday Dinner. The service was great, constantly checking if we was okay, always clearing away finished plates and glasses. The food was awesome, everything was cooked nicely for a roast dinner. Would highly recommend.

I never leave reviews, however I’d like to thank the staff for all their great efforts into putting this together especially CAM and BEN and another guy aswell (can’t remember his name) relieving stress off me as well as having the festive Christmas meals all organised ranging for 2 or 3 courses, which came alongside either a Bellini or Prosecco which was lush by the way! This pub have lovely staff and is very good for group meals so if you’re thinking of a place to go as a group I’d highly recommend. The one down side thing of the regent was the beef was tough on some of the meals. However was overall very good! Apologies for the no photos of the food or drinks these were scrammed down by our rugby team before we could get an insight. Thank you for having us Definitely come back again!

The food was lovely, but the service was not great. The staff were clearly just too busy to serve everyone properly. It took 40 minutes for our plates to be cleared, we couldn’t catch an eye of any waiting staff and our table was only cleared when my partner went to the bar to ask if someone could clear our table and to see if we could order more drinks. As the waitress cleared the table I asked if we could order more drinks and she said “yeah, quickly though.” We honestly felt like a burden.

Cannot thank the team at The Regent enough for looking after us so well last night! We were treated to a free meal and bottle of wine courtesy of the lovely Gemma @livelyhood who very kindly arranged the whole thing to make up for an unfortunate previous experience. The food was amazing and the staff were extremely attentive and polite all evening, especially Dana! Great night, great memories and a new regular pub for us to frequent. Thanks again guys! ☺️

I like The Regent, I think the staff are pleasant & the pub has a friendly atmosphere, however charging £2.50 for a soda water & lime (basically the same price as 1/2 a pint of lager!) within a round of drinks I think is very naughty.

Recent Edit - previously thought this was the best pub in Balham and it’s certainly still got a great indoor decor without being overly 'gastropub' modern and a fantastic one side of the bar for sport and another for dining (whilst there are plenty of pubs in Balham, sport is in short supply) However the food has hugely gone downhill - for a good 9-12 months actually. They’ve done a recent re-do of the menu the the small plates we had were very small, ok tasting and over priced. £8 for each of these is absurd. As always the staff always seem friendly so it’s a good place, but won’t be eating again there any time soon

Updated review After our review the managment at Regent reached out and inquired about our experience and our concerns. Jack was friendly, whent above and beyond, invite us to another showing of F1 and all our good points about the Regent was there this time as well and happyily our concerns from the first visit did not occure again. Showing that our experience was an exception rather then a rule for the Regent. Big gold star for the Regent reaching out and caring to improve and show that customer feedback is valued. Around London unfortunently its easier to an establishment to simply shake off a bad review rather then looking to improve which is a sign of a good managment. Will definitly visit again and can really recommend the Regent to other sports fans or just for their great sunday roast! - A couple of friends and I booked a table in the sport section to watch the premier of the F1 2022 season, Staff was friendly, good food and decent prices and a nice location. All of this however was overshadowed when the F1 cast was changed for a football match (which by the way was being shown on two screens at the same time) with only 5 laps to go for the ending. We asked the staff to at least show the remaining laps on any screen but was adviced that all their "sources" to the sports area was full and they would not be able to show the remaining of the race. So a very bad end to what started off as a great experience.

Possibly the best roast in Balham. Also great for drinks only. Have been for a bottomless brunch, a Sunday roast, and popped in for drinks only. Every time the service is impeccable, food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Plus they are dog friendly. Great atmosphere and can highly recommend!

Good size and a really big selection of both food and drink. The big screen is a little faded and lacking colour, but there's a number of smaller screens dotted around if you're looking to watch the sport. Food can seem a little pricy - £1.50 to add extras on the burgies is steep when all you want is a slice of cheese however the base cost of £10 is reasonable and it was really really nice with home made chips. Staff were all really friendly too.

Nice pub. They have a habit of playing music too loud even when it's not that busy. Having to shout a conversation mid afternoon on a weekday, when only a few of the tables are in use is unnecessary. Other than that I recommend. It's good for watching sports although it's large with separate rooms, so don't let that put you off if you are just chatting.

Had good service here all evening but when we went to pay we had a duplicate order on our bill. Rather than taking my word that there was a mistake on the pub’s part the person serving us accused us of trying to get out of paying for a round of drinks and launched a mini-interrogation. Still ended up paying for service charge (for a server/waiter to bring drinks to our table from the bar a few meters away) as we’re not awkward customers, despite getting called thieves. Still like this pub but will just order and pay at the bar next time!

Have been here a few times for food and drinks. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of screens for sports. Roast is very good as is the full english. Pub quiz on a Sunday is also recommended. Close to Balham train station so easy to get to and lots of drinks to choose from.

Decent pub with a good ambience and friendly staff. Had a roast dinner here on Sunday which was reasonably priced compared to most pubs in the area that want to charge over £20! The roast was pretty good, the pork belly was cooked well and was a nice generous portion, and I was informed the beef was tasty (although a bit on the rare side). The vegetables were decent (particularly the cauliflower cheese), however I wasn't a fan of the 'Yorkshire pudding' which was too flat and dry/crispy, and the gravy was a little salty.

Nice big pub and staff are often friendly. I would say the prices for drinks are a bit too expensive, they seem higher than any others in the area which puts us off going in at times. Two pints to the table came to £13.75!

Lovely beer garden. Food was amazing to be fair. Bit stingey with the cheese on the nachos but ho hum. Mixed quality of staff. We had one very good server but the manager was pretty useless. I would go again for the ambiance and for the beer garden, next time to join one of those fantastic looking roasts.

Large outdoor space, kinda busted tables most on mega slants because it's a temporary set up, food has good portion sizes and is tasty. Marked down because you do have to catch the staff on a good day (I know it's gotta be rough serving masses of people outside right now though. Go for the sun (it'll be REALLY busy)

The Regent has been my local since I moved here in 2012, it’s always busy but the food is average at best. In the first year I moved to Balham not long after (2013/2014?) it had a big refurb with a fantastic new menu and new look, I really liked the manager who seemed to pride himself on customer service and the fact that the menu tried a variety of different veggie dishes. Me and my husband were a regular in those early days and not only was the food good and varied but the cocktails were great too. The manager was always friendly and would check that customers loved their food and took on board any new suggestions. Fast forward to 2019 -2020. In the last year this pub is not the same. It’s good for groups of people who just want to drink and aren’t too fussy about the decor, noise, food and quality, but for a cosy delicious meal it’s not so good anymore. The food is not the superb quality it once was and the pub is over the top noisy. By the end of the night it gets trashed with spilt drinks everywhere (there are also bouncers at the door too...never a great sign in my opinion). One time me and my husband popped in for a late night drink the bartender couldn’t mix anything other than what was on the set cocktail menu, we also made the mistake of going to sit in the sports area of the back of the pub. The nice leather seats have now been slashed to shreds, there was spilt alcohol on the table and the lamp table light didn’t work. Since this time, The Regent have opened the beer garden which is nice and I’ve ordered food in here again, which was ok but unfortunately still not my favourite pub grub. I guess The Regent have a lot of groups in here so they have customers, but for a nice meal in a nice pub it wouldn’t be my first choice. I’m a local and I’d recommend The Cyclist (also can be noisy on a Saturday, but when it’s not) the food and drinks are much better and the decor in the pub is definitely not as shabby as The Regent has become. Such a shame it used be to be perfect in here.

It's been a great pub for a while, sensible covid rules and good beers means it still is. Good place to watch the football, which is shown in one half of the bar. It is correspondingly busy, so book or get there early, especially if you want a table in the garden or for a popular sports event.

Great seating options both indoors and out. The drinks and food are nice although it can be small portions. We got the baked camembert as a starter and it came with hardly any bread and they charges us extra for more. You can order drinks and food through an app so feel very secure with covid regulations.

Writing this during COVID-19 times, it's the last week (hopefully) of not being allowed indoors, so we had dinner and drinks outside the Regent last night. The staff went out of their way to help people, there were a few gusts of wind that sent people's drinks flying, which were replaced free of charge. I hope that everything goes well for the Regent and all their staff coming out of lockdown. By the way we had really good breakfasts there a couple of years ago too.

Nice venue with a good atmosphere, but surely when the place is jam packed on a Thursday night when there is sport on you could put on more staff. Hospitality pays absolutely nothing so it won't break the bank and it might take less than 20min to get a beer and you won't have a mountain of dirty glasses on the table. It's just common sense.

A good place to watch the rugby on their big screens, and a fine place to enjoy a good range of beers. Gets very busy, and the food has been a bit fussy in my experience. They do a great pub quiz though, but it's worth booking a table in advance to ensure you have somewhere to sit.

The pub itself and the staff were all great; however, the burgers and chips were dire. We told the staff when they gave us the bill and they immediately deducted 25%. Would definitely drink here again, but how this pub thinks it can charge around £13 for a plate of soggy, greasy cardboard is beyond me.

Great looking and welcoming pub with food food and drink on offer, good service and comfortable seating. Perfect place for meeting friends or watching sport (offered in a separate room). My only grip was the music was a bit too loud, by loud I mean the EQ was not quite right and the volume was too high meaning I could. It talk to people on the other side of the table. I would understand if people were dancing in there but it's not that kind of pub so they should sort that out. Still a really good pub in my opinion.

Nicely appointed pub BUT how difficult is it to cook a burger and fish and chips? Burger and fish were underdone,batter on the fish was thick and stodgy, chips were greasy and hard. The barman was very pleasant.

The best pub in Balmo. A pub of two halves: the half from the entrance is a fantastic place to unwind, eat some food with a colleague or partner or just a nice drink from the great selection of beers on tap - however, if you wana catch the footy there is action from every angle from the multitude of screens in the other half of the pub. Staff are always up for a bit of banter and the bar is never too busy. Top night had by all. Thanks!

Lovely pub in the heart of Balham, the front section of the pub has a more laid back atmosphere and the back is more lively. The bar staff are very friendly and helpful. It could do with a bigger outside area, especially during the summer months. Thje food is great, really recommend the burgers with Chorizo.

It was my Friends Birthday and we were going to book a table at the BBC but decided to try out the revamped Regent. It didn't start off well but we found another table even though we asked for a quieter table ( within reason ) Anyway the bar staff were quite friendly and seemed to care so all was good . I left for about 2 hours and then returned and found it more than half empty Cool I thought I better get the next round in and went to the Bar , Hi there I said and before I could finish the Barman said ' we don't serve this side and pointed to further down the Bar ' oh i said sorry and moved along . I then said I didn't know he had closed that side down and was just trying to be friendly with a bit of banter .. he said Yeah ' What do you want ' I was stunned but though he's tired it's been a long night and proceeded to give him my order. I said two drinks at a time and he said Yeah anything else while pouring a pint . I then gave him the balance drinks 4 more . Pl not to much ice in the V and T's he smirked and filled the glasses full of ice .ok well I thought and said I hadn't been here for a long while and the decor looks diff and nice . He shrugged his shoulders and muttered something. That's £ and no please . I paid and said can I have a tray please .No tray..stupidly I left him the change and I don't recall a thank you... Shame as there are alot of good pubs locally .

Mostly a good experience: the bar was large and cool, the bar had and excellent selection of beers, the company was good. Unfortunately a buch of middle-class oiks at the bar had had a few too many beers, and had forgot about using their "indoor voice".

Great place, spacious, tidy atmosphere, friendly efficient staff with local history who've mostly worked in other establishments close by, television showing sports we want 2C ( there's a bookies on the high street 200yds away, so dont expect to see result how your horse placed, lest you hook into to your data allowence, maybe you can get their wi fi?) and if not sport, then news with music (bar persons choice) on top ( keep yer phone in your pocket while talking to yer mates) a menu to rival the best Balham has, at prices cheaper than local comparison, drinks? The going rate this part of town (thanks Ed Sheeran),£5.

Went there for a dinner on a friday night. The bar staff very friendly, the atmosphere pretty good but the drinks were on the pricey side and meals average. The burgers were better than the cannelloni but overall I'd go there for a beer and sports experience, not food and dining experience.
