Reviews of The Rising Sun
D. T.
A great backstreet pub, just off Ludgate hill, a stones throw from St Paul's Cathederal. A roomy pub with a horseshoe bar and plenty of tables outside. An absence of traffic gives an air of tranquility in the centre og London. Beer lovely and cold served by efficient welcoming staff. There is an upstairs dining room serving excellent food, including a very tasty generous Sunday lunch. A most excellent place to visit.
A. P.
Lovely little side alley bar with a good range of beers and barrel tables for outdoor seating. A little way off the main road so you can enjoy a quiet pint. Reasonably priced as well. The food looked amazing but we did not try any of it. Service was quick.
K. H.
Had a great vegan Sunday roast. Super quick and friendly service and a great price at £14 each for both mine (vegan) my dad's (chicken) main meal.
W. B.
A nice comfortable boozer just down from St Paul's Cathedral, bar staff very nice and friendly, had a nice pint of Doombar, if in the area worth a visit
D. R.
A great find.
Stones throw away from St Paul's.
Staff were very friendly and service was amazing as was the food and drink.
Definitely be calling in again on next trip to London
T. R.
Went here last night for some drinks and food. Friendly staff and good selection of beers. They offer a simple and classic pub food menu. I had the fish and chips which was very nice. The pub is in a great central location and is on a quiet street which was nice to sit outside in with drinks and food. Would definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area or planning a trip.
R. I.
Very traditional pub good beer without the frills. Look forward to my next visit!
A. S.
Excellent meal and lovely man serving it. Place was nearly empty early Sunday afternoon. Recommend to everyone.
P. M.
Excellent old pub feel, friendly staff, good food.
P. V.
Excellent pint of guiness and a Rarely achieved local pub type atmosphere in the middle of the city
r. r.
A friendly pub, very clean, I would definitely recommend anybody to drink here.
S. S.
Very limited seating and mainly locals as opposed to young professionals but a good selection of drinks.
D. B.
Decent pub with a really decent selection of ipas, other ales and lager. Not so much cider. The food there looks lovely and the decor inside is nice. The frustrating thing for me was waiting to be served when no one else was ordering any drinks and I felt as if they were ignoring me. Other than that its a good pub with decent facilities.

This is the right place to come for Samuel Smith draughts. The service was excellent, and my god do I love their beer. I wish I could drink this pub style beer all day. London is a great town, and The Rising Sun is a nice place to spend time here.
There's an all wooden bar with a smiley, bubbly bunch of staff that all seem pretty happy to just pour beer all day--the best beer, to be fair. It was delicious. I'd like to go again.
M. E.
Third choice pub for lunch last week. Good ale but mediocre food.
S. H.
Lovely pub, great Guinness and evenbetter service
A. S.
Lovely family run pub. Great food. Very friendly staff. Great Guinness. I would highly recommend it
m. C.
Had lunch here today and it was so lovely. Sausages and mash, with maribone gravy; delicious 😋 Pink gin and lemonade was just the ticket to cool me down on this hot, sunny day. Friendly, attentive staff - will definitely be popping in for lunch and a glass or two of Pink Gin!!

Good Place for a drink after work and to watch sport, even at the weekend.

Decent pub. Friendly service. Reasonably priced
j. d.
Friendly pub with good beer pretty close to St Pauls
P. D.
Lovely pub, friendly staff, great food
L. S.
Nice pub and lovely mulled wine!
H. F.
It was lovely and staff fab. Only criticism would be the the hallumi starter was overpriced for two slices of hallumi ,some fig chutney and 4 salad leaves @ 7 quid . Calamari was really nice though and a generous portion .
P. H.
Best Roast Dinner ive had, fabulous
B. e.
Great place. Tucked away down a side street. Wouldn't know it unless you look for it which is good as means you really only get locals in here. Friday nights are busy. Very clean and the toilets although a little old actually clean and smell nice which is unusual for a typical London boozer. Plenty of seating and normally good amount of bar staff so not hanging around for ages to get served. Can't comment on food (unsure if they do or not). Nice selection of lager but not great for ale or ipa.
D. D.
What a lovely little gem this pub was. Went on a Saturday so it wasn't very busy (due to it's proximity to the City - just round the corner from st Paul's) but had both the rugby and the football on. Beers on tap were a good selection and the chips were excellent.
A. A.
No draught on when we visited, but otherwise a pleasant spot for a pint
S. G.
Great city pub with friendly service. Outdoor seats
P. P.
Returned to an old drinking hole with ex work colleagues. Pub hasn't changed much since those days which is not a negative comment. Friendly staff with a good selection of beer. Will revisit.
J. O.
Good little pub, tucked away on a backstreet. Rarely very busy, even when other haunts are over spilling. Sam Smith's pub so good range of cheap beers and spirits, but only their own stuff.
Some of the upholstery is a bit neglected, but that gives it an old school charm.
S. M.
Awesome pub with officially the best pint of Guinness in the square mile. Great for midweek and Saturday sport too with multiple big screens. Bar staff always friendly and attentive.
D. H.
Great beers. Good mix of ole fashioned boozer and young blood. Nice atmosphere. Nice vibe. Close to nice restaurants. Close to McDonalds. Nicely busy most of the time. Definitely worth a visit, wont disappoint. They play all the major sport. So much fun.
A. M.
Nice boozer and with excellent food. Recommend the chicken burger.
J. H.
Was in here about a month ago and had the best time seeing friends I hadn't seen in decades. Am very glad they allow Americans! Yes, of course I'm kidding. Fun place tho. Lots of great conversation, and fantastic beers! And a wee spot of whiskey.
m. t.
Went to this pub yesterday afternoon. Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic. Being a bit cheeky I asked them to play Oliver Celeste on Spotify (my favourite singer) and they happily obliged. Couldn't ask for them to be more helpful. Thank you for a brilliant afternoon and thank you for putting up with me!
K. S.
One of our favorite London pubs. We discovered it when we first travelled to London after visiting St. Paul's. Love sitting outside with a pint especially on a Friday evening when everyone stops on the way home from work. K&J from Philly
T. B.
You would be hard pushed to find a better pint than that served in The Rising Sun. This is a proper English boozer, with a lively City clientele on any day of the week. Don't expect anything fancy here, it's small inside and there is usually a overflow in the street outside. Tables are very limited, so expect to stand if things are busy. I recommend this pub if a traditional London pub is what you are looking for. Just to say, it's unusal to see a tourist in The Rising Sun even though it's a stone's throw from St. Pauls, but they are super welcome if they do make it!
M. D.
Nice pub very close to the office with a good range of beers. Unfortunately bar staff were surly when we had to take back two bottom-of-the-barrel pints which were cloudy and undrinkable and this rather brought the visit down.
A. G.
The house red is pretty good. Mostly a male professionals crowd. The layout is a bit odd but it has a historical feel to it. Don't mess with the bartenders when they are not in the right mood! Food is quite good too.
S. T.
Tucked away proper pub. A stones throw from St Paul's, but a million miles away from the soulless chain / tourist holes in the area.
A proper old school pub, well, bar the prices but they're worth paying as you are in a real pub.
G. H.
One of my favourite pubs in London
I. F.
Superb pub! Impeccably run, great beer and pub food.
A. M.
I went to Disco Bistro fairly shortly after its opening and was pretty excited to try out the new ideas from the kitchen team. Overall, I think I had a low to middling experience with some things being exception but generally a let down.
The good stuff was the décor (kinda crazy but not overwhelming), the friendliness of the staff, and the friend chicken starter. All of that seemed to indicate an excellent night was to be had. Even sitting down at a very rickety table (which our waitress attempted to fix several times) wasn't enough to put a damper on things.
The mains came out and I can't say any of them were terrible, it was the general meh-ness of it all that really stuck with me.
The drinks selection was limited but fine. I suppose the point I'm aiming for is that if anyone asked me how it was, I'd have gone "oh...it was nice". Now I don't know about you, but if I'm going to shell out around £30 for dinner, I want more than nice. I want to be impressed or at the very least see evidence of an attempt to reach for greatness despite the epic fail. Just doing enough to be nice, well that isn't very nice at all.
N. R.
Great London pub, busy on balmy summer evenings, very little table space, and really good for a few beers, and a chill out, be prepared to stand up though.
G. Z.
Uncomfortable seating, very busy. A men's pub all style....walked in and felt observed for being a woman! Some men might like its way if being bare and straightforward.
G. O.
Super beer and excellent service. Going to the rest rooms is great as the ceilings get lower the closer you get. Feels like Alice's Wonderland!
S. W. (. h.
Old fashioned pub, and not in the 'new' way, but certainly in a good way. Usually very busy, week night evenings, but does quieten down after 20:00.
L. L.
Very clean, friendly pub
K. J.
Good location and beer is good and served in the right glasses. If the staff were a bit friendlier it would have got 4 stars.
J. S.
Great pub - lovely draught beer which not too strong so can neck a few.
R. M.
Finally I ate English breakfast. Very tasty. The waitress was kind with us. I will recommend this pub to all my friends.
R. M.
Wonderful Pub. In a sea of chain owned mediocrity, the "Sun" stands out as a family run great pub, that provides great service, beer and atmosphere.
R.
Great standard pub. Service is quick and friendly and the selection of beers and ales is top notch.
P. S. P.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food from the fat bear upstairs, even if it's a bit pricey... (six quid for cheesy chips!)
o. f.
Good energy...football ready weekends and weekdays...
J. K.
A nice pleasant old fashioned pub close to St Paul’s Cathedral . A reasonable selection of wine available .. Also three real ales on offer .
A. c.
The sun is the best place to go for a casual beer, the staff are friendly, the beer is good, what more can you ask for?
B. G.
Big fan of this pub as some good memories with good people here, Guinness pouring could be improved however.
J. L.

Great Pub, Great service - Beers always tasty and fresh - food amazing - the staff have fun have a laugh and really make you feel welcome......Its a real nice surprise to have such a wonderful pub in the local area that still has charm.....Great wine list obviously people that know about their wines but it still has a great pub feel so it appeals to all people and crowds - has a really buzz about the place - love it - A must visit when you go to St Pauls
r. p.
