Reviews of The Schoolhouse
M. A.
Delicious food with new things to try! We ordered the porkchop and the steak and everything was absolutely spot on!
Plenty of vegan/veggie options as well.
I had the sweet caramel gnocchi as dessert and it was so scrumptious!
Service was great and overall a great chill restaurant to go back to.
We'll definitely be back!
A. K.
Always lovely to come here! Great food (had the spicy chicken flatbread and the French toast with Nutella :) Staff are super friendly and nice. Nice clientele and they have some great books to read if your friends are running late (I read about Napoleon) Highly recommended!
R. B.
I’ve been to The Schoolhouse a few times - for brunch; for drinks; and for some parties. Every time I’ve been it’s been fab. The food is great, as are the staff and they have the best gravy in the world!! Highly recommend!
L. B.
I've been in London for a week now and this is by far the best food I've had. The atmosphere was cute and cozy, drinks were great as well! Both waiters that helped us were personable and endearing, I have absolutely nothing to complain about except for the fact that I didn't see a Furby 🙃
S. H.
Had the Vegan roast- was soooo good! nice to have an actual wellington (with 'feta' mmm) rather than just the normal plate of veggies. Service was on point- lovely staff and great atmosphere too. Shout out to the welsh waiter who looked after us.
My friend got the beef roast and loved it- plenty of gravy too haha. x
C.
Went to celebrate a bday party, the service was fine, except for one waitress who was a bit rude. Nice menu, better quality that I was expecting. Bottomless Prosecco 20£, I think it’s not really worthy. Overall nice bar, but not for parting, don’t recommend for big groups.
L. B.
Great burger and nice atmosphere. We add a delicious diner on a Saturday night. The food was excellent and the staff friendly. Huge selection of beers as well.
J. C.
Love......... The School House....
Buy one get one free on draught lager and cocktails from 1730-1830 which is excellent value for money.
Very short walk from Clapham junction station and great outdorr seating to watch the world go by.
Excellent menu , had brunch here at an amazing deal.
Staff wise, everyone is awesome and friendly and always running around after everyone, and will do their best to get you a seat outside the front.
The School House Pils Lager is under a fiver for a pint and really refreshing.
G. O.
Lovely ambience gorgeous food really friendly staff would highly recommend this place very reasonable prices to I will go back
J. B.
I had a lovely meal here, Pork Schnitzel/creamy mushrooms/sautéed baby potatoes. I ask if there were any vegetables and was given a choice of broccoli or spinach. The broccoli had a lovely crunch. Nice music and old stool vibes. Very friendly sweet young waitress. 10 out of 10 from me . Oops 😬 I meant old stool vibes. I know broccoli has certain properties but that's taking it a bit far. Lol. It won't let me write skool ah.
T. C.
Very nice café, good food, friendly staff and warm décor . It's not the usual café for mums with babies in fact you order alcohol as well and it's a bit more noise than you would expect from a cafe.
M. J.
Quirky place, great food, well priced (starter and main for £15), many vegetarian mains.
There were a couple of minor issues that were immediately remedied by the staff as well as free desserts to make up for the inconvenience.
R. R.
Great location fairly close to Clapham junction station. Really nice food and selection of wine and at decent prices!! Would go back and I highly recommend.
D. A.
Went for a Sunday roast, but was stuck for choice. The menu has been updated and the new chef is doing his magic. Lamb, beef, chicken or a vegan wellington.
I had the roast, which was a nice mix of nicely cooked meat, fresh broccoli, roast potatoes and carrots and a Yorkshire. They highlight was the gravy, they even brought extra. My surprise was the vegan roast, my friend ordered it and I tried it. They actually ran out of it because so many people ordered it without necessarily being vegan, it was an actual nice plate rather than just ‘the not meat option’.
Service was great. It is a little slower when you can’t get to the bar to order drinks but that’s just Covid rules and I think everyone will get more efficient over the coming weeks.
If you haven’t been, go!
E. E.
Fantastic food, drinks and service! Would recommend anyone to visit the Schoolhouse!
G. T.
Visited with a group of 8 to try out their new Sunday roasts and it was well worth the trip. Yorkshires and gravy were properly good and some great new desserts on the menu. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending it
R. L.
Arrived on a horrible rainy day to a friendly and warm reception from the two lovey young ladies we met. The food was fantastic and good value for money! The restaurant was buzzing with a great vibe, my sisters are already asking to return! I highly recommended this place.
A. C.
Recently had two large groups (25 & 16 people) here for breakfast.
Service was top notch from start to finish, management very accommodating and understanding, food was great, all in all would highly recommend
A. K.
Love this place! Great venue for a party. High quality food, good fun, excellent service. Such a friendly team. ❤️❤️❤️
p.
Nicely themed bar with good selection of beers
L. M.
Went for brunch on a Saturday morning - food was spot on... I even gave compliments to the chef which I don't usually bother with! They use Mission Coffee - one of the best and it's delicious. Plenty of beers on tap and can/bottle. Will definitely be back
C. B.
School house is 10/10 the bottomless brunch is such a great value for money and the vegan roast is my favourite. I can’t recommend the place enough and have always left having such a good time, the atmosphere, the food, the fun video cassettes that take me back to my childhood. It’s just the best in London!!
J. D.
If the Sunday roast hadn’t tasted so good, we wouldn’t have over eaten. And then the Oreo cheesecake and brownie… flipppinnnggg heckkkk!
T. A.
Really good venue, great music, good food and attentive staff.
J. R.
I am not a big one for pubs these days, but I will be making sure I support this local gem after they put in the work to provide, organise and distribute meals for children over October half term. These are the kinds of businesses that we want to survive and be the template for a better economy and society as we work through this extraordinary time in our lives.
L. M.
I visited here in December, starters were a good size and also had the Christmas burger too. Good portion size and service! Near Clapham junction, would recommend if you’re in the area
A. J.
Best neighborhood pub! We celebrated my husband’s birthday there and everything was perfect! The food, the selection of drinks, the service, I mean everything!
The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our guests and the area which was allocated to us was awesome! We definitely will go back and I am so happy that we chose this place for our party.
B. W.
It took us 20 minutes to decide what we were going to have from the brunch menu. Spoilt for choice!! In the end I went for the naughty school boy and all I can say is WOW. Superb! Perfect balance of sweet vs savoury. Service was great too.
T. R.
Nice restaurant / bar with table service, with a school theme and decoration, including nice touches from toilets to chairs, tables and menus... The beer menu is particularly nice, including their own brew and a number of rotating draft beers. Food is OK revisiting modern pub classics. Quirky and a nice atmosphere.
N. A.
Excellent salades and sandwiches. Lots of thought went into getting just the right combination of fresh ingredients. Highly recommend.
A. M.
Amazing roast, one of the best I've had in London - gravy was top notch. Brilliant service, everyone very nice friendly and food came out in good time too. Great little spot this one. UTG
R. C.
I was on Wednesday evening with my friends for a dinner. We had very good time. The staff is lovely and welcoming. The food was very tasty and well prepared. Highly recommend.
C. H.
Its not fancy but its always guaranteed to get messy at a bottomless brunch! The menu is good, the staff are attentive (noone avoids you so that they don't have to replenish your bottle of fizz), and you get a choice of complementary mixers to turn your prosecco into mimosas/bellinis/kir royals. If you're going for a brunch, book the last sitting before the dinner service. You're less likely to be rushed off your table and might be able to squeeze a bit more time out of your 2 hr slot!
S. M.
I recently visited the Clapham area after moving away for work. The schoolhouse was always a favourite so I decided to pop in for old times sake. It did not disappoint. Loving the new addition to the menu of Chicken wings ( I had it with the hot sauce which I would recommend). Chicken stack is always my go-to if you’re looking for a proper main. Staff were very friendly as per usual and the drinks selection was amazing.
R. J.
Very nice service.
Nice food
Not bad prices
High chair seating not very comfortable at all for a 2-3 hour sitting
"The naughty school boy" was Great - but you really should offer a small jug of maple syrup (like the size of the milk) to go with all of those pancakes.
VERY LOUD - but then so is a school dinner hall lol
Liked the overall look of the place - school pegs by the high tables for ours coats would have been great! !!
The receipt inside the school book was a nice touch x
A. A.
Enjoyed a group brunch here recently for my birthday. I liked the decor and theme of the place and we all really enjoyed our brunch options. Unfortunately, at 11am on a Sunday, the place was packed and the staff didn't have the numbers to cope. The girls serving were very nice despite being rushed off their feet but it took 20+ mins to get our drinks each time we ordered. We thought they had forgotten our order. We really had to work to get someone's attention to ask for the bill. Very very busy and noisy atmosphere which was fine for us but may not suit everyone. The place was very popular with families.
T. W.
Recently moved to Northcote Road and found this spot round the corner! Wouldn’t usually leave a review but the food and service really was out standing . Great spot! Can recommend highly for brunch or Sunday lunch!
A. R.
Fantastic place. Chalkboards, coat hooks, school chairs, workbook menus and periodic table elements on the bathrooms - it really works the theme. Great choice of beers on tap that you may not find elsewhere. Really good relaxed atmosphere with great but not over the top service as well. Highly recommended. They do some good food offers too (e.g. weekday deals with 2 courses and drinks for £13).
L. L.
Group of 6 of us are here on a Friday night. The setting and atmosphere were quirky and fun and the food was delicious (would recommend the nachos!). The cocktails were also lovely. It was a shame it was let down by rude staff. The website says happy hour was until 7:30pm but on arrival at 7pm we were told it had finished at 6:30pm. The staff did honour the buy one cocktail get one free for one round but not before she told us extensively how we had messed up the stock count. They then charged us full price on the bill for these drinks and when I queried it rather than being apologetic the same waitress was rude about it again. Service was generally slow throughout the evening.
D. S. d. R.
Nice atmosphere and decoration, and a good brunch menu with plenty of choice. Also good for a few drinks with friends, as it is open all day. Can get some nice cocktails, although depending on the barman they can also be mediocre.
R. G.
Great experience. Wish it could've been on a non-lockdown schedule but we regardless received enjoyable food and most notably great service, with cheer, chat and frequent top ups - big fan.
A. L.
Everything about this place is great! The food is delicious, portions are great sizes, the staff is extremely friendly, atmosphere is good (even on a Tuesday evening!) and reasonably priced wine list. I would definitely recommend this spot!
W. O.
Personally, this has been my to go place for a self rewarding comfort brunch during my postgraduate year in London. Portion is pretty generous and tasty. Very money worthy. Good coffee and amazing staff. The Naughty Schoolboy is my absolute favourite.
d. b.
Very warm and welcoming host.
Enjoyed the portions as I’m a foodie 😂😂😂 would recommend going for a quick drink or bite to eat or a dinner it’s a great place to enjoy your day/evening
R. F.
The Schoolhouse is a lovely neighbourhood café with a distinct hipster vibe to it. The wooden benches, mismatched chairs and tables and school themed decorations give it a homey, comfortable atmosphere that makes you feel welcome. The staff is very welcoming and sweet, though they do gravitate towards their regulars more.
H. M.
Lovely staff, really friendly establishment. Food and drinks were great. They had a nice but one get one free cocktail offer! Drinks were good!! All round big thumbs up from me and my friends
R. J.
Cool nostalgic venue, good coffee and music. Food is poor value, not the best brunch in the area and very expensive. Have been 4 or so times and am always left a bit disappointed after the food, but will come back for coffee.
M. U.
Amazing place with great vibes. Drinks are affordable and the food is delicious. Highly recommend.
L. F.
Went here with my partner for some food and drinks and we loved it! Great atmosphere in there and all the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended! Will be visiting again!
F. M.
I went to The Schoolhouse for a catch up with the girls on Wednesday night. We did the bottomless dinner offer which was really good value, 2 courses and unlimited Prosecco for £38. I had the Calamari for starter and Chicken Stack and fries for main, The Chicken Stack was lush. I will definitely go again. Thanks Schoolhouse!
R. N.
This is great. Just had a drink but really nice atmosphere and friendly service. And a welsh beer 😀. I didmt eat but the food looked good.
K. G.
Nice atmosphere, food was delicious and good selection of drinks. Aside from the small issue with their Tastecard membership would recommend if in Battersea
W. T.
Finally a dog friendly place in London! Came during mid week, food was fantastic, if you are a burger lover please give the schoolhouse burger a try, you can pretty much customise it as much as you like! Will definitely be coming back to try the bottomless bubbles which I saw advertised whilst I was in there.
X. S. P.
Lovely place for nostalgia! The decoration includes furniture from school, to board games from the past and VHS movies! The food is also very good and at reasonable prices. The staff was lovely as well so I totally recommend to give it a try.
a. m.
Sherry was absolute class! Never ran out of procecco and she gave great recommendations. Food was brilliant. Highly recommend even more so if you are lucky enough to get Sherry looking after you.
J. F.
Good food, enormous portions, staff are chilled out and accommodating. The inside is a little dingy if you aren't sitting right by the window and I personally find the decor a bit shabby, but it's a great place to eat (especially with kids or family) because it's inexpensive and has something to please everyone.
L. H.
Enjoyed a beautiful dinner last night at The School House. Their new Sea bass dish is delicious. Would highly recommend!
J. D.
Relaxed bar/restaurant themed around 'school'. Good selection of local and imported craft beers on tap (including ales and lagers) plus an interesting range of cocktails, which are 2-for-1 in the early evening.
Fairly expensive for what's on offer. Prices subject to service charge.
M.
Came here for my birthday for bottomless brunch and couldn’t have been looked after better by the staff. Best value bottomless I’ve had and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back.
J. C.
Had a large group in on Wednesday night. The staff were fantastic, giving table service all night (which considering the large number of us was impressive!) Great food and drink available with a cool fun atmosphere.
D. M.
We came for bottomless dinner. The service was amazing and the food was really good. Unlike most bottomless brunch/dinner options, the staff want you to have fun! Loved it - thank you!
C. B.
Friday evening and the missus calls me up to say she’s having a gluten free beer in a “sweet as” bar not too far from our flat.
Normally these labels don’t inspire much confidence but she’s a Kiwi and a Coeliac, so I’m straight out of the door, faster than Husain Bolt.
I’m then directed to the Schoolhouse on St. John’s Hill. I walk into a joint that I have walked past many a time during the day, assuming it was a ‘brunch type’ meeting place for yummy mummy’s and sad dog walkers. That’ll teach me to make assumptions!
On arrival at 6pm I was greeted by a burly Welsh chap named Will who directed me to the bar where I found my better half keenly chatting away with a couple of friendly locals. Matt was on on the bar and took me through their impressive cocktail list. Introductions were made and the conversation flowed but my attention was drawn to the barperson making ‘Old Fashioneds’ (47 stirs to the right and 47 to the left) at this point we decided to stay for dinner.
To cut a long story short the food was of a very high standard, all foods on the menu were clearly labelled with allergies and also the customer was given an allergy free alternative, the drinks were executed to an even higher standard and the service was impeccable.
Matt and Will run a welcoming establishment, their staff exude their business model. I look forward to our next visit!
P. B.
Great friendly atmosphere! Food was so good and would definitely recommend the bottomless brunch option!
Great value, venue and friendly staff.
M. H.
Amazing bottomless brunch but food isn't the best. Since when did avo on toast equal shop-bought guacamole that's 30% cream on stale hovis? Service is good though
A. O.
Great menu and food. Lots of lovely little touches everywhere which made me very nostalgic for my school days. Nice staff who don't try to rush you out
T.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and really good food. Their vegan options are an unexpected bonus too (vegan roast!!).
O. H.
Amazing place. Good vibes all night. Great value for money. Shout out to Sherry, she provided great service all night. Highly recommended
T. P.
I've come here now once each for lunch, brunch, dinner and just drinks and each time was fab. A great menu served in a really cool vibe with a laid back vibe. Coffee is amazing too!
K. S.
First time visit for our work xmas do, loved it! Great food and a lovely atmosphere. Lots of 'old skool' items around which meant great conversations about our school days etc
S. P.
A nice big place, with a cool back to school them. Brunch is so so, the lunch menu is better. The Buttermilk chicken burger is a standout.
A. T.
Had our gym Christmas party at the school house last night and can’t thank Matt and the staff more. Fantastic food and service for 38 people and they went out of their way to make our night as fun as possible. Cannot recommend this place enough.
A. P.
My friends and I went for bottomless brunch and the food was supper yummy, friendly and professional staff, COVID friendly and young atmosphere!
a. m.
Popped in for a couple of pints the other day, i didn't have anything to eat so that's why i gave a 4 star review ,but i must admit what i saw looked very good , the staff are super friendly ,and made time to get to know me . the music was chilled and the atmosphere and decor are super cool , well done keep it up
D. C.
Good service. Nice food and attentive staff. Only decaf and orange juice from a carton available at the time hence 3 stars. First World problems.
L. R.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable staff and delicious food. Book with Tastecard / Gourmet Society for discount (although already reasonably priced). I would highly recommend :)
F. W.
Best breakfast dig in St John's Hill. Unpretentious, gorgeous and flexible menu (ask, and you might get it). Staffs make the place it is. Highly recommended especially for breakfast and bottomless brunch.
H. W.
Thoroughly recommend this place! The nachos are the best thing you can have in London. Staff are so kind too!
D. G.
Great service, great menu and fun atmosphere. Best book in advance as it gets busy for very good reason!!
S. G.
Excellent food at fair prices. Brilliant staff who are friendly and welcoming regardless of how busy they are. Catch their brunch on the weekend.
M. H.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and welcoming staff. Will definitely be coming again and will look into renting the private area
C. D.
Top food with top staff...try the 12 tap challenge if you're into your different beers, ales and ciders! Bottomless brunch is a great day out as well!
A. W.
Pretty overpriced for sub-par food. Coffee was good and will be back for that but won't eat again. Also the music was too loud to have a conversation.
S. M.
Friendly and attentive staff, great selection of craft beers which all taste great. I would definitely recommend coming and trying the great menu also!
M. S.
Went for bottomless dinner, and it was great. £30 for a main meal and as much prosecco as you could drink. Food was really good.
A. G.
Just had a great brunch at The Schoolhouse. Fresh food with some good healthy options on the menu. Great theme too, nice atmosphere....
