Reviews of The Shaston Arms
G. G.
Tucked away just off Carnaby Street, great service, the guys and gals behind the bar are really efficient, so no matter how crowded, you will get your beer quickly. There is place inside, and also outside. You can get beers from Badger Brewery on tap which is great and something different from the usual stuff you get in the other pubs. You do have the option of other beers on draft as well.
J. W.
A Fun,cute, small pub, just off of carnaby Street.
Comfortable and intimate enough for a date or post work drink.
Its not trying to be something other than what it is, which is refreshing for the area.
The toilets are clean, and the staff are friendly.
On the down side;
They don't take cash,
Drinks are expensive, and its full of slightly posh obnoxious business types and office workers..
but if you can ignore that, and the overly inflated prices aren't an issue for you, then this off the beaten path, back alley, passing trade pub isn't a bad place to take a pit stop
A. A.
Nice pub very busy but good atmosphere and lots of cosy seating
B. H.
The pub is really nice. The dominican lady( spain) is very friendly and lovely. I will come back soon! 😊
D. T.
A delightful backstreet pub, right in the heart of the west end. Great beer, great staff and great company! We shall put the world to rights in spite of all politicians. Just a lovely pub, thanks for the experience.
T. B.
Expensive but probably normal for the area. No draught bitter but then more and more pubs are getting rid. Supposed different entry and exit with yellow arrows on the floor to tell you which way to go but then barman tells you can't leave via the exit and must leave via the entrance. Won't be rushing back
M. C.
Great little pub, great customer service from ben and Lucy, will be coming back soon.
C. G.
Nice pub off Carnaby St. Small but managed to get a seat at the back, which was quieter than the front. The pub had a really nice atmosphere. Staff were very friendly whixh can't always be said for all the pubs in the area. Definitely worth a visit if you're close by
W.
An absolute gem of a pub hidden off Carnaby Street, feels warm and friendly and the staff treat you well
Lovely decor and makes you feel like staying all evening
Pity it wasn’t open Sunday when I tried to make a return visit but returning I shall be
d. y.
Great London boozer, lovely bit of London pub history, newburgh st an surrounding area is a great night out
K. M.
Great pub. Friendly staff with a nice atmosphere. Loved it. 🍻
G. O.
Great for a beer! Staff are super friendly. Closed early
C. S.
I really loved the vibe and the aesthetic in it. People were very helpful to describe properly the dishes and the food was very good. I def recommend it.
O. M.
Decent pub in soho area! Cannot complain
C. K.
This pub was a little bit of home in London. We are from Dorset so familiar with Hall and Woodhouse Brewery and Badger Beer.
I have lived in London and never come across a Hall and Woodhouse pub outside of Dorset..
The pub was lively and friendly with very helpful staff.
S. H.
Good selection of beer and nice staff.
A. F.
Only went here for a drink to take away (street drinking) surprisingly friendly bar service and choice of beers on tap...only one IPA though
J. L.
Great pint of Guinness...awesome bar staff! Xx
J. C. R.
Great drinks and a bar since 1777. Damn awesome place.
W. M.
The barmaid from the Dominican Republic was really friendly and a great barmaid. She served our drinks with a smile and catered for a complicated amount of drinks for a large party with ease. The only downside is the music - very outdated, it would be good to hear something a bit more modern. Overall a great pub, I'll definitely be going back!
M. R.
Visited early on a Tuesday evening. Not busy and was able to find a table for a group of 6 without difficulty. Badger ale was excellent and bar staff very efficient. Almost reluctant to recommend in case I make it busier when I next visit!
K. B.
Love this pub. Slightly crowded during after works crowds. Plastics outside. Which makes it one of the better central London pubs during summer. Only one table outside though. So standing is the order of the visit. Staff are always brilliant and this includes the fact that they do have a relatively high turnaround of staff. Interesting history too if you can be bothered to do your research. Otherwise, just simply step out the mayhem of Oxford Circus and grab yourself a drink.
a. e.
Really decent pub, come here whenever i’m in the area. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Good outside space. Inside has really interesting decorations, artworks of london now and then and lots of pictures on the walls. a great spot for locals and people just having a drink and a good time.
J. H.
Good basic proper pub with lovely nooks and crannies. Good beer and music. Only problem is that music is wayyy too loud to allow comfortable conversation. Bar staff need to understand that customers want to talk to each other.
E. C.
Great pub just off Carnaby Street, in fact the best pub around this part of town. And an extra bonus are the Badger beers and lots of references to Thomas Hardy and his books. A very well run pub even when it's busy (nearly always) and a great place to rest the feet after shopping. Highly recommended
M. S.
I concur....with Adam..a crakin pint of Badgers.....just what the Doc ordered
C. G.
they have done an excellent job of creating a chic place to wine and dine and meet with friends after a long slog at work. the original introduction of a varied menu inspired by west coast canadian favourites is fresh and flavourful, with a great selection of wines and cocktails to quench your thirst. The pub itself had a great atmosphere and a mix of people of all ages.
G. W.
Like most bars around the area, Shaston Arms is small, and incredibly packed after work hours. Ignore that, and this traditional pub is a commendable choice for a craft ale and a welcoming ambience. The staff seem flat-out constantly, but don't drop character as kind people when taking orders – sometimes multiple at a time. The best time to pop in is after the first swarm of workers have left to go elsewhere – or before they arrive – as it can get squishy inside.
E. M.
Decent selection of beers, although not all brand names. Generous standing area outside, not too busy. Decent little pub off the beaten track.
N. D.
A favourite in the area for meeting friends. All-local crowd in the evenings and a quiet place to meet over a beer during the day. Small pub with close tables and dark corners make this place feel like it's straight from a novel.
C. B.
Great pub. Nice wine and beer selection
R. B. -. E. k.
Really good place to meet up as some of the Post Production people frequent "The Shaston"
Gets pretty busy in there, but around Soho if it is not packed, do not bother as the vibes will be no good.
Great pub and one to go in and have a laugh and a good chat on a Friday night after a hard weeks work.
Enjoy!!
P. J.
The Shaston is comfortably my favourite Soho pub, and a contender for the best in London.
Not only are the staff all friendly and a good laugh, but the clientele tend to be those who work in the area, and are therefore that much more friendly and chilled.
The Badger beer is worth a visit alone, may recommendation being the Peachy 'Golden Glory'.
It's also one of the cosiest pubs in town, with the little booths and the skylit seating area out the back. You just can't do better. If I could give it six stars I would.
S. F.
Great beers, plenty of space to stand outside and whilst a little cramped inside, people who are sat are coming and leaving all the time. Purely a pub with a great vibe and pleasantly just off the beaten track.
A. K.
Pub in Soho. Serves beer. Do you want a beer in Soho? Then this is perfect.
B. L.
Nice pub. Quiet time and night. Had good selection of beer and made a decent screwdriver. Probably busier on other nights. Enjoyed a chance to talk
j.
Me and my wife popped in during the day it was nice and clean and the staff were good, not a great selection of draught beers but plenty of gin to choose. Prices wher of average for the area....expensive
N. I.
Nice central pub just off the beaten track, not the widest beer selection but good enough. Plenty of seating and lots of space outside too
J. L.
Old fashioned pub, decent selection of beers and good service. Nice to stand outside in summer but indoors can feel a bit cramped
S. C.
Lovely quaint little pub.
M. W.
Badger Brewery pub usually serving Tanglefoot, First Gold and a seasonal ale. When sunny it gets very busy outside in the evening as it is part of the pedestrian area adjoining Carnaby Street. Service can be a bit slow due to the bar layout when very crowded.
D. S.
Unfortunately this pub was closed due to covind .have been hear before last year was a lovely little pub .hope it opens soon
D. C.
Pleasant pub, ok beers but can get uncomfortably busy. It's a good option in Soho/Carnaby Street area if you want to get away from the Sam Smiths chain pubs.
A. A.
Great pint of Badger beer
M. B.
Found this a real cosy place. Was here with a few friends and spent a few hours on a Saturday evening here. Unfortunately no food available, just some small snacks (crisps and nuts and so). Would be nice if you could order some fingerfood like fries or so here. Prices are decent, staff is friendly.
P. C.
Great pub in Soho excellent staff up for a laugh.
A. B.
Nice and cosy little bar in the heart of soho. Beers are decent prices considering the location, and bar staff are super friendly. Beer selection is small but has a bit of everything you need.
B. L.
Pretty average looking pub with average beer selection. But for the location the service was rapid and friendly so can't complain.
E. S.
A great old school pub a little off Carnaby Street. It's an old building with cramped interior space but great atmosphere. Badger brewery beer is a good addition.
N. T.
Proper pub with an intimate feeling to it. Great music too.
K. G.
Nice little pub just off Carnaby Street. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
G. M.
Great little spot with a friendly crowd. Nice staff too, unlike some of the thickos you'll find working in other pubs in the area. Nice place to rest the legs.
J. C.
We didn't book but they seated us quickly. A lovely little pub.
B.
Great bar off the beaten track
A. M.
Nice, cozy pub. Staff nice and service prompt. Beer selection was good for bar size.
C. F.
Friendly, efficient service and great spot to meet with friends for a pint. Located just off Carnaby St, it's easier to get to than to leave. Reasonable prices and quite the celeb trap.
S. S.
I'm biased, I've had some of the best night here when I was just out of Uni working in Soho. It's full of lively runners, tv and post production bods. The artwork opposite is lively too. The big plug socket.
A. B.
Small traditional pub. Badger brewery beers recommended. Standing area outside when weather allows, otherwise can be crowded.
D. T.
Nice little pub just off carnaby street, surprised how often you can get a seat here. The beer selection is not great.
S. E.
Decent trad boozer just off Carnaby St. Often hard to find a decent drink in town, so this is worth a look if you fancy an ale.
C. P.
Lovely vintage british pub with lots of space and tables to sit and chat, have a drink and listen to good music. Lovely staff
S. D.
Quirky little pub. Of three Badger cask ales two were off sadly. But will definitely come here for a pint again.
D. L.
Small but friendly pub just off Carnaby Street sells pasty, crisps and nuts. 3x draught beers and a selection of bottled beers lagers and ciders.
s. p.
The young lady from Dominican Republic who served us today was fabulous. So happy to serve us with an exelexcellent beer.
H. M.
Really cosy little bar, great pub to ramble across with lovely atmosphere 👌
A. R.
A neat little pub, not too fancy, easy on the wallet. Bit crowded for my liking
V.
Great pub just off busy Carnaby st. Plenty of space to stand outside and 3 good ales always on tap
C. A.
Nice drinks but very small inside and outside. Plastic cups, which means no broken glass on the pavement.
K. M.
The girl i was with asked the price 3x - yuh we paid a mad price for our spirit mixers but maybe they just dont pay me enough haha.
D. C.
Excellent traditional pub in central london that's not packed full of tourists - a rare find.
S. K.
A real gem hidden in plain sight. If you're out in Soho and don't like pretentious hipster bars and prefer a cool and cosy little old boozer, this I the one for you.
M. J. H.
Excellent pub. Absolutely enjoyed it! Loved the beer.
M. T.
I found it happening. Right in the middle of soho this place is always crowded in the evening. Good people with nice welcoming attitude always brings you back here.
S. M.
Have walked past a few times and visited a few weeks ago. Friend joined and we sat outside. Established covid set up by staff.

Nice traditional pub. Lack of beer selection, but a good job being done
K. G.
A curiously charming pub. It has everything you need in the way of drinks, food and service, but also a little extra something somehow.
S. H.
Great pub. Good service and beer selection.
A. S.
It's an old and vintage bar. You can drink outside of the pub if inside is full. They don't serve food.
J. D.
Great place for a pint with friends. Always a good atmosphere
D. “. A. C.
Not been here for a while. Came in to get out of the rain. £4.40 for a pint of Fursty Ferret and Come On Eileen on the sound system 👍

I. M.
Nice pub, good beer. Atmosphere was great
F. A.
Affordable prices, nice atmosphere, the interior design was unique and pretty, only giving four because the space for the legs was quite small
A. F.
Badger beer on tap and on bottle. Quite small inside but good atmosphere
