Reviews of The Speaker
T. H.
Far the best traditional Ale House in London. Also a really good selection of spirits, wines and non alcohol refreshments.
Love the fact you can bring your takeaway food into the pub and enjoy it with a beverage of your choice. Definitely worth checking this fine establishment out if your a visitor or live locally, you won't be disappointed by the warm welcome and fabulous atmosphere.

This is a fab little place, the staff are welcoming and very friendly. Good choice of wines which was too good to not enjoy, my partner loved working his way through the fab selection on the taps, all followed up by a cheeky cocktail. We loved the boards games which we could use while enjoying our drinks. This is now a place we will try and make a regular. Thank you. X
S. J.
This is a fantastic pub the staff are incredible are the drinks a great! You can even charge your phones or laptops. It's tucked away in a nice little area I really do reccomend a visit
E. M.
This pub is an absolute gem! Found it one day walking my dog to the park and was delighted to find out that it welcomes dogs! Perfect for my husband and I, especially with special ales available. Didn't realise the amount of history the pub has either which was a lovely surprise.
Don't miss out on this one guys.
J. C.
This pub is great. Locals were friendly and we found ourselves talking with people we never met before. A very different experience from your usual pub. Our dog Pedro loved this place. The owner gave him treats and gave him toys to play with. He felt so at home he fell asleep on the leather seats.
M. K.
Tom, Babs, Frank (the beloved pooch) and the staff are incredibly friendly. This pub his a hidden gem and is well worth a trip for a quality beer and a game of scrabble. Popular with locals and tourists alike.
P. P.
Lovely pub in a great location. Popped in for an after work drink, surprisingly quiet for the time of day. Was served by a cheery cheeky Essex boy manager with whom I had a pleasant conversation about the history of the pub, marmite and how to properly maintain a boat.
Nice quiet pub to while away an hour or two after work.
a. b.
Lovely beer selection. Good customer service and also allowed to bring food from outside and eat in the pub.
G. D.
Called in today with a friend and was impressed with the refurb since I last visited. The beer was still good and we were warmly welcomed.
I.
Great back street London oub in the heart of the "Westminster Village" of government. Away from the tourist wine bars, this small pub serves a rotating quality beers and at reasonable prices. A regular with civil servants and parliamentarians, the civil atmosphere is quite pleasant compared to the cocky pushy attitude found found North of Victoria Street.
A. C.
A firm favourite for championing the pub conversation - this small, historic bar in the heart of Westminster is frequented by all sections of society in a way that naturally mixes over a well kept cask ale or more!
S.
Good beer and atmosphere but not many seats and crowded after work
G. T.
Recently renovated the speaker returns with its old school charm. Always busy with Westminster politico types I have been drinking here intermittently for over 17 years and love the cosy friendly environment. Now it has a private room for booking so offers a lot of options for a central get together. Note that toilets are upstairs so not accessible for wheelchairs.
E. S.
A nice little pub with good service. Would recommend if you're in the area.
m. w.
Very cool pub! They have good ale! 👍🏿
A. B. (.
Lovely old English pub off the beaten track, good range of beers and more... Quiet cosy and friendly atmosphere
J. T.
A very friendly traditional atmospheric pub. Very clean with well kept real ales.
S. B.
Just having a lovely drink ! Friendly local pub with a great atmosphere.
A. H.
Great beer, a warm welcome and the cutest pub dog - Frank, the miniature dachshund. They don't do food but can you can order takeaway to the pub and eat it at the table.
It's a bit off the beaten track but definitely worth a visit.
P. C.
Warm friendly welcome, cask beer in top condition. Lovely. Thank you 🍻
A. A.
Cozy pub, great atmosphere, excellent drinks selection
D.
This is a really nice neighborhood pub. I've been there several times.
b. s.
An absolute jewel of a place...well kept ale and a really friendly atmosphere...and the added bonus of a delicious feisty dachshund...highly recommend

I have been a local at this pub for the last few years and love it. I never came here before the refurbishment around 3 years ago and now I'm part of the furniture.
Lockdown was very tough on this place but it has bounced back with style and being back in this week since lockdown easing, it feels like I've never been away.
The staff are very friendly and I always get a warm welcome and stellar service everytime!
Blows all local competition out of the water and is a place where you can easily sit and spend more time than initially planned and love every minute. Very cosy and great atmosphere. I look forward to this pub carrying on to be part of my life for years to come.
If you're in the area, pop in and give it a go. You won't regret it!
J. A.
Great selection of ales and craft beers. One of my favorite pubs in London. Including the managers special rules and food. Makes for a great cosy atmosphere. One forgots one is in the middle of London when in here, feels like a country local.
Oct 2021 update: things have changed since my original review above. The longtime manager retired (I have seen him socialising here still pre-pandemic) and the place has been done up. It's still a great pub, a bit polished, and the managers rules are gone. Also now open on Saturdays!
P. C.
Lovely pub, great staff. A real class boozer.
M. F.
Brilliant pub, with a very friendly atmosphere, and a wonderful dog.
A. S.
Excellent drinks, staff and atmosphere - love it!
C. C.
Nice to see it open again after so long in lockdown. A friendly little pub.
R. W.
A great place for a rest between Geocaching events and not forgetting the cache within shouting distance!
A. T.
I have used the speaker many times always found it very nice even before the refit very good range of beers and wines and spirits staff very pleasant it now has a upstairs bar but small the only nagging thing is that people need to shout above the others which. There is no need for because they think there better than others because it is silly 😋 and spoils every ones else evening or afternoon to the the people that need to shout there is a alternative you just get your self a box get on the 148 bus 🚌 to marble arch and you will find yourself at speakers 🔊 corner
B. M.
Great pub. Great service.
P. T.
This is a nice pub. However it is not the same as it used to be. It has been recently renovated, which is a real pitty. It used to be a charming characterful pub with great beer and a wonderful atmosphere. It is now a more bland pub like you find anywhere in London. Still a good choice however, if you are in the area.
R. B.
Fantastic, friendly little pub, serving great ales (Tim Taylor's Landlord is a permanent fixture, with 4 other guest ale spots) . Perfect place for an after-work pint. The food is all homemade and although that means it's reheated in the microwave on demand, it is decent quality and good value. The liver pate is good, and the Thai curries too. You might struggle to find a seat by 6.30pm most evenings, but there's a decent turnover so have a pint on your feet by the bar and see if something opens up. In the summer it's nice to stand outside on the pavement, but there's no seating there.
P. H.
Would have been a good night. 6 + colleagues. But wasn't allowed. Had to move onto another pub
G. S.
A good little pub in central London, Not overly priced for the area with a reasonable selection of beers. Whisky is a bit thin on the ground. Small, very friendly staff, but can get crowded on Fridays, particularly in good weather. Not the end of the world though!
N. L. M.
Excellent back street pub, great refurbishment but still feels period. Great selection of ales and other beers. Nice upstairs room available to book. Very popular post work.
J. D.
Great beer. Best beer pub in Westminster
N. H.
Visited after working hours; it was very busy with standing room only. This fact alone tells you it is a good place. If you are visiting during the day this should be an excellent choice, it is a short distance from the main Victoria Street through road so does not suffer from the crowds when the locals are at work, only when they finish work and pop in for a pint. Beer is good, typical English so worth a try if you are coming to London from overseas
N. D.
Charming atmosphere, polite staff, clean and enjoyable. Definitely recommend for anyone.
C. L.
Busy, compact pub, mixture of customers.
Friendly staff, good selection of beers/ciders.
The toilets facilities are up some very grim stairs & the pub is certainly not disabled friendly.
T. B.
Cosy, one-roomed corner pub that serves a good range of well kept real ales.
C. w.
It's a nice pub and has an upstairs seating area as well as the bar on the ground floor but suffers the same problem as a lot of pubs in London that it gets packed and there is nowhere to sit down.
The toilets are upstairs so can be a tad tricky after a few pints. The selection of beer is good albeit expensive.
S. S.
Busy locals pub serving good beers and very well frequented. Typical old London boozer full of old world charm. Compared to more modern pubs it could be said that it needs upgrading but that's the charm it's REAL
V. I.
When I first arrived, the place felt a bit crowded and noisy. But we decided to stay for a beer. So, I go to the bar and ask what the bartenders recommend, and they hit me with an orange chocolate bayer, just to taste. Twas good, but dark beer ain't my thing. So they gave me four other beers to taste, until I found the one! Damn, it was good!
All of a sudden, like on the blink of an eye, the atmosphere reached levels like never before and I decided to stay for the rest of the night! Never underestimate the power and importance of a great bartender!
s. b.
Proper traditional pub with well kept cask ales.hard to find in central London these days. Has a rustic feel to it with old world charm. The fading of the carpet adds to the character. Don't change anything that's what I say. Highly recommended
T. C.
Nice place to visit. The have quite good beer but expensive wine well but who come to a pub for a wine? Toilets could be much cleaner at least if it goes to smell. Besides that it's a typical London pub. You either like it or not :-)
D. M.
Nice pub, and nice selection of beers. However, very expensive and the pub is far too small to be comfortable late afternoon onwards. Not much room to move around or too close to other parties if the other is a little loud!
J. P.
good selection of beers, 5 pounds a pint - bit expensive. Quiet atmosphere. I am glad I checked my change, barman short changed me £10...which I am giving him the benefit of the doubt it was an accident...
A. G.
Grate little boozer in Victoria 6 real ales well worth a visit
M. D.
I love the fact that they sell really nice dark beers. They also celebrate the Camra Milds in May activities. The bar area itself is quite small but many customers drink in the street outside. I have eaten in the bar area and thought that the food was fine.
S. S.
Very old-fashioned pub, meaning no fruit machines or music and a landlord very much in attendance. Not entirely sure if I agree with the £1 fee for non-customers to use the toilet, but I do understand the principle. Excellent food though.
S. N.
Oh dear God, the best ale pub with brilliant customer base has been wrecked by the corporate makeover. The long term Landlord retired and it's now a glitzy, noisy look alike to a pitcher & piano. I saw no one from the old days, a prime example of how a refurb can destroy a community. The Timothy Taylor Landlord is still available, but sadly, the venue has had it's soul ripped out.
C. B.
Can't remember which lager I had but it doesn't matter. A beautiful, quiet and cosy place. This pub alone would justify the good name of the whole institution of English pubs. Just bring the paper and read it with a pint.
S. C.
This pub was exactly what we were looking for. We just happened to stumble on it. It was filled with locals who had stopped in to have a pint after work. The landlord had a number of dishes on the menu that he makes himself. I had the chicken curry and my wife had the Cottage Pie. Both were fantastic and filling. We look forward to going back if we are in the area again before our vacation ends.
J. H.
If you're in SW1 and looking for a good real ale pub I'd recommend you try this place. The landlord, Dennis, is usually in residence - always a good sign of a pub when the landlord is evident. This is a wonderful antidote to the now depressingly common chain pubs all over London, with real character. They're also very proud of the fact they have no fruit machines or piped music - and rightly so. Really good selection of interesting and unusual beers on tap, which seems to change constantly. This is one of the few places in London I've been able to find mild, and they have a number of different themed beer festivals at different times of the year. All of that and it's a proper, genuine tradition pub with an unspoilt interior.
S. “. T.
Revamped with renewed class. Still a great selection of beers. A bit pricey but no more so than other smaller pubs in the area. Landlord is giggle. Well worth a visit.
J. B.
Really don't like the new decor, all the roaring tories are now deafening without the dodgy carpet. The character it once had has been homogenised. It is now a 'bar' and I don't intend to tolerate standing on a postage stamp bit of hardwood for the pleasure. Oh well, times change I guess.
P. C.
Great pub, great staff.
C. B.
Nice pub even if Nigel Farage is sometimes there!
D. H.
The best pub dog....in the best publ
G. K.
Small and very friendly pub. Good beer.
D. H.
Proper, traditional, cosy pub that makes a point of not having TVs, a jukebox or fruit machines.
Good selection of well kept ales and excellent home-cooked food, staff are friendly and engaging.
P. S.
A cosy little one-room pub around the back of Westminster Abbey and Victoria St. There's a small but perfectly adequate choice of lagers and beers, and the pub operates a strict no music and no TV policy so its an ideal spot to chat with your friends.
Being a street or so off the main drag it isn't thronged with tourists either - it's popular with local office workers and staff from the surrounding Government departments and agencies...
O. B.
This is the real deal folks. No gaudy slot machines; no over the top loud music, no shady lighting; just good ale (and lager too I suppose), a friendly pub ambience, and a no-phone-while-being-served rule. The food seems quite good as well but I didn't partake this time.
B. K.
Really cosy and authentic Londok pub. Great alternative to most of the awful places around Victoria and Westminster
J. B.

A. E.
Great service, the right level of caring about Covid rules, and an adorable little doggie!
W. B.
Good selection of beer, let down by dubious staff. Check your change. I found an old pound coin in mine, and gave it back, the barman susbsequently tried to work another onto me. I'm not going to bother going back.

N. C.
Small, proper pub on Great Peter St. Always a great selection of well kept cask beers available, always friendly and welcoming. Been going for years
S. B.
Can be a little cramped but great real ale and lovely staff. The deal to get four bottles of Curious Brew for £8 is unreal value.
J. D.
Decent standard boozer near westminster. The beers were Tim Taylor's landlord, a doom bar and a few others. nothing brilliant on the craft front,
