Reviews of The Spread Eagle
A. M.
Great vegan course menu and mom alcoholic beer on tap! Had a lovely soup, followed by but roast and the plum custard. Will be back!
S.
I'd highly recommend coming here for lovely cocktails, service and ambiance. The Sunday Roast was average, we got all three varieties on our table and we were not overly satisfied. The Yorkshire Puddings were almost cake like. The ice cream was lovely but tart, not so great. I would definitely recommend the cocktails.
L. T.
Visited last Sunday to catch up with friends, everything was incredible from start to finish! Such a nice vibe and great staff. The roast was outstanding, best in a while. Being a meat eater I had my doubts but really delish! Can’t wait to be back.
N.
Good quality vegan comfort food. Flavourful and priced well. Would recommend for Sunday lunch.
C. T.
My partner and I visited The Spread Eagle for our first meal out after lockdown and had an incredible vegan Sunday roast - I had the nut roast and my partner had the pot roast, and we also split the cauliflower cheese and a sticky toffee pudding - all super tasty and we ate every morsel!
They have managed to keep traditional flavors and dishes while making them vegan, which is amazing! Staff were super friendly and attentive with good service, and we sat outside in the lovely little garden area which was socially distanced from other tables and had a great ambiance with plants and sunlight in the early afternoon. Also they had an excellent drinks list. Wonderful experience overall and can't wait to visit again.

I had my birthday lunch at the Spread Eagle, the food was delicious, also my non vegan friends appreciated the variety and taste. Really nice atmosphere, the service was good and friendly. It's all a pub should be!
S. I.
Nice vibes for Sunday roast. We all enjoyed and none of us are vegan (yet). Really enjoyed the Bloody Mary’s with the mega pickles
L. G.
Couldn't recommend this venue more for an event. Great communication with Tom from the start and he answered any questions I had. The venue is beautiful, I am ashamed to say out of all the times I visited the pub I had never been seen the function room. It is the perfect size for my 35 guests and it was gorgeous. Particularly love the cool neon sign!
I pre ordered drinks which were already stored and chilled in the fridge. Table was already decked out with glasses and cutlery. And the food arrived on time and was delicious.
Attentive staff throughout and couldn't do enough to help. It was drawn to the event location because they had such a reasonable booking charge compared most venues across London.
Big thank you Tom and the Spread Eagle team for making it such a successful night. We will be returning for future functions !
L.
Friendly service and a great range of mocktails! Was really looking forward to trying the food here but the mushroom burger I ordered was almost impossible to eat as it was so sticky and didn’t taste great.
The sticky toffee pudding was delicious though!
R.
Beautiful place, incredible food and fantastic service! I celebrated my bday with more than 20 guests, only two vegan counting me but everyone was obsessed with the food. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I will certainly be back! Thanks Emma, Sherri and the others! 🤗
S. B.
Great all vegan pub! We went on new years eve & really appreciated being squeezed in without a booking. Service is friendly and attentive. Try the cocktail menu. On Sundays they do 3 variations of a roast and the beet wellington is the best vegan roast I have had!
D. S.
Really refreshing to finally be able to go to a vegan pub and have a Sunday roast. Beet Wellington and nut roast very tasty! And yum Yorkshire puddings without any fear of goose fat!
Potatoes and gravy a little disappointing; gravy tasted like it came from a packet and potatoes tasted like they were deep fried and then oven baked until tough outside.
Bit of work and it could be excellent
S.
We went for the Christmas feast and it was absolutely fantastic from the vibe to the decor to the service and of course the food!
Many places serving vegan food can be underwhelming bit the chef in this pub is a gem! The menu is creative and absolutely tasty, zero disappointment !
I have added this gem to my list of favourite place and will be back for more! Keep going you all rock!!!
S.
The best roast of my life. Dessert was great too. Inventive and substantial all-vegan food, with traditional flavours in mind. The gravy was incredible and the roast potatoes just perfect.
Clean space and funky decor. The drinks looked beautiful and sounded very well thought through, hopefully they will add a more consistent mocktail section in the future.
Service was attentive and friendly. I wish there was a place like this in West London!
Well done to the whole team, showing that plant based doesn’t mean tasteless or boring is a real feat.
I will be back to try the third Sunday roast option AND the weekly menu!
Thank you for a truly great experience
R. M.
Came all the way from Canterbury for a vegan roast and was not disappointed!
We had the walnut + cashew nut roast and sticky toffee pudding/blackberry cheesecake for dessert. Everything was awesome and nothing tasted like a compromise. My *one* criticism would be that the potatoes could be crispier/cooked for a bit longer, but everything else was so flavoursome (dat Yorkshire pudding 😍) that I didn't mind!
The pub is cosy but spacious and colourful. It's so nice to see a vegan place that just feels like a proper pub, and the staff were nice and friendly.
Will definitely be back to try cocktails next time I'm in London. :)
M. D.
Very warm and welcoming pub which serves delicious food! We had three courses and it was all beautiful and priced fairly. The service was good and the staff were friendly. It was also very clean and comfortable! Would definitely revisit.
T. S.
Lovely pub with a quirky interior. Really good vegan roast. The beet Wellington was delicious!
J. H.
London’s first 100% Vegan pub. Lovely pub in centre of Homerton. Beautiful atmosphere with really great crowd.
The pub itself serves Mexican food which is also VEGAN so a wonderful treat. You even see people with dogs inside which is another plus - totally animal friendly. Reasonable prices and it’s possible to reserve an area including a beautifully neon like area at the back. Very recommended to visit at least once but definitely do come more often.
C.
Great vibe, lovely staff.
Best vegan Christmas dinner. All the Christmas classics but veganised- fried Camembert, Wellington, trifle. All delicious.
K. p.
Great to see a London pub doing vegan roasts which taste yum! We will definitely visit again :)
R. G.
I may be biased as this is right around the corner from me, but this is a delightful pub with a great range of craft beers on tap. Went for the vegan Mexican food which was delicious - got all 5 tacos of the moment, my top 3 were 'chorizo', 'bacon' and tofish. Don't be fooled, menu is 100% vegan, but 100% tasty for vegans and non vegans alike.
You may want to reserve a table as more than half the pub was reserved or occupied at 7pm. A little slow to get served but may have been due to being a Tuesday, staff themselves were lovely.
S. W.
We love going out. Last night we visited this superb place which friends recommended to us. We enjoyed a lovely time there with superb meal and an efficient team and a great chief cook. We added this restaurant in our phone list and we will surely return very soon. We deeply recommend.
M. T.
Decent sunday roast (perhaps needs a bit more seasoning) and amazing trifle! Fab customer service too
A. H.
Been wanting to visit this pub and am so glad I finally did, lovely staff delicious food and a great selection of drinks. Dog friendly makes for a lovely atmosphere with four legged friends welcome. If I was local this would be my regular, give it a visit!
M. A.
I've been wanting to get over to Homerton for a while to give the Spread Eagle my hard earned cash...it did not disappoint! That's a Sunday lunch! Londons first 100% vegan pub. Absolutely wonderful.
C. C.
A surprisingly delicious fresh food and ambiance experience. We went here for a friend’s birthday. Had the popcorn chick’n - 100% vegan and tasty. Cocktails were great and fun and creative artwork and general good feel.
T. J.
10/10 guys! Just visited today for a vegan roast and got the Beef Wellington which was absolutely divine. The cauliflower cheese is also delicious. Can't wait to come back!
H. D.
Such an amazing place to eat and spend your time. Went for dinner and had a Korean burger (made of mushroom), Squasage Roll and also the Leek and Shamombear tart and for dessert we had an ice cream peanut butter sandwich and sticky-tofee pudding and it was some of the best food I've eaten from a pub. Honestly it was so good. Great service and the locals are great too. Had a great conversation with a couple and thei dog and the Service was amazing.
T. M.
Roast dinner tasted great, but not enough trimmings. Needed greater quantity of existing sides and others (eg stuffing, parsnips…) on top. Super friendly service.
D. R.
Known as London's first 100% vegan pub. It was my first time at The Spread Eagle in Homerton. Great pub, friendly staff, Very good efficient service, and very good vegan food with a variety of options that hits the spot nicely! Good drinks selections. Portions could be a bit bigger but overall a very satisfied customer that would highly recommend a visit here for anyone that appreciates good quality vegan food.
H. B. C.
Such a lovely place. Really good vibes. We only stayed for drinks but they were very tasty & we had a great experience! Would 100% recommend.
k. D.
Fabulous find, 100% vegan food & drinks, all 100% delicious, lovely setting and friendly staff too. Loved it.
K. A.
Such a nice atmosphere and yummy food! Vegan "must visit" spot, for sure! Definitely, recommend the fried plantain and chickpea "omelet" small plates! My only suggestions are to maybe chop the dried cranberries in the chickpea dish side salad more finely and maybe serve the delicious sticky toffee with syrup on the side so guests could go nuts pouring that over the ice cream?.. :)
B. R.
This is my absolute favourite place to eat. Best food ever. Great atmosphere and where you can actually have a conversation without needing to shout and helpful, pleasant and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
R. R.
Great vegan food, very busy but quite pricey. It seemed everything was very spicy also, no mild options! Something to note if you are not a spice fan.
A. A.
Very lovely food and good presentación and very friendly and helpful stuff. Would love to have more gluten free options for burgers and desserts, but that's just mainly me, because I am coealic, but overall lovely place and reasonably priced too. Will come back
L. X.
Lovely vibe and a nice outdoor setup. Food was delicious and good value (for London). Will definitely be back.
A. R.
Really excited to find there was a vegan pub in my neighborhood. I went looking forward to trying the food and was disappointed (even though I had a 50% discount voucher). The service however was excellent and I would definitely go here again for a drinking session - nice relaxed friendly vibe - but I won't be going here to eat in a hurry.
Classic burger was okay but a rip-off considering all that was inside was an average size patty and not much else. The mushroom burger was bland and included too much batter. The onion bhajis seemed like 75% batter - hardly any flavour - £7.50 for that! The chips were fine. The peanut butter cookie sandwich; the cookie was dry, quite difficult to eat, not very good. To me, there seemed to be an over-reliance on the deep fat fryer and it's smell permeated the outside eating area. After I left my stomach did not feel good.
I will be coming here for drinking, perhaps I might try the Sunday roast - but if I try the standard menu again I hope it improves and/or the pricing more accurately reflects the mediocre quality I experienced on this occasion.

Conveniently located in the heart of Hackney. Bar located in a heart of the pub. Comfortable stools and chairs. Nice stuff. Wide range of beers.
Hit it!
B. M.
Without a doubt a proper pub where you can enjoy a night out. Spacious with friendly staff !
Been there around 2 years ago, the vegan Mexican style food on that day was unbelievable. After returning just recently for lunch, I must say that the current British twist on the menu it's a brilliant vegan interpretation of the typical pub food. Although less colourful and fun than the Mexican food tried previously.
P. T.
Such an amazing place to be. Staff was so friendly and attended. A top class food. The best vegan burger in my life. And realy very well selected beer list from Camden brewery.
Only one problem, which I found was the portions size - to small for the price of it..
It is the first vegan gastro pub in London.
t. t.
My 2nd time time last night and the food is delicious as ever. Highly recommend. I'm on my way now for my third visit. Can't stay away.
C. R.
I live round the corner from this pub and had only heard good things about it! I entered with a healthy dose of scepticism about how good a vegan version of festive favourites like ‘camembert’ would be. However, I needn’t have been so cynical as the food, drinks and service were absolutely A+++!!
There was a small hick up when it came to the bill but this was very easily sorted and the staff were a real credit to the establishment! I hope things improve for you and the hospitality industry next year as I will certainly be returning at the nearest available opportunity.
All the best,
Charlie x

I enjoyed coming here. Good food, freshly cooked. Good, friendly informal service, suits me. Terrific that it's all Vegan. Would have preferred it if the Gluten Free options were notified as such on the menu. Decor I guess you could describe as shabby chic, I liked it.
M.
Amazing vegan pub with outstanding food - can’t recommend enough, I will definitely return to try everything else on the menu!
J. W.
brilliant pub with a good vide - we need more pubs like this. Spicy potatoes were hot, I needed another pint to wash it down
B.
Lovely staff and very good vegan food. We tried 4 dishes and they were all delicious. The tofish tacos were probably the best, but everything was so good it's hard to find one thing to single out.
N. G.
Had pie and mash, crispy potatoes and the empanadas. ALL SO YUMMY, really lovely venue, would go again even though it's other end of London.
T. D.
Very tasty vegan food and own-brand lager. Busy but friendly and without long waits.
M. D. (.
Great place for drinks, proper 'local pub atmosphere' and if you're into vegan food then this is one of the best in the area (amongst many other new vegan restaurants) The Club Mexicana menu is delish, especially the tacos which tasted exactly like the ones I've had around Mexico. The only thing that didn't live up to our expectations was the deep fried avocado but maybe I was just expecting too much. Definitely coming back and trying the burgers next time.
S. K.
Fantastic service, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was incredible, would recommend the Philly Steak Toastie, made my day! might take a while for some tap water though ;)
D. B.
The Best Pub Vegan Menu, lovely atmosphere, nice beers.
N. H.
The spread eagle lager is crisp and refreshing. A stylish lively place that is not so busily lively as the adam and eve across the road
S. A.
Never went to a fully vegan pub, it was amazing! You must try their amazing blue cheese ❤️
J. F.
Great food and beer , venue is also really nice
However most of the tables tables were marked as reserved from 5pm. Yet no one arrived until half 7 ... thought that was a waste as we would of eaten more if we had a table and didn’t stand at the bar
- note I have since gone back and had excellent service with great food and drink
R. S.
Food 5*
Venue 4*
Service 3*
R. B.
What is better than a London pub? A VEGAN LONDON PUB. Don’t miss the Sunday roast!
A. G.
The joy of discovering this place is hard to articulate. A proper pub with excellent range of booze, but with delicious vegan grub! I will be back... soon!
T. B.
Great pub, nice beer garden, friendly staff, lovely beer and excellent vegan food! Would recommend the strawberry and courgette salad.
G. F.
Great service, tasty food, good vibes and delicious cocktails!
E. E.
The food at the Spread Eagle is simply incredible. The fact it is vegan is an added plus. The tofish tacos blew my boyfriend’s mind and the chick’n torta is delicious. I have followed Club Mexicana for a few years and it’s great to see a small business which cares about its food and its customers doing well. The cocktails are good too!
B. F.
You just have to visit this pub if you are local. Really nice atmosphere as the staff and the regulars are really friendly. The prices are really reasonable and although I am not a vegan I find the food excellent. I will go there again ( and again)
C. D.
Really lovely set up. Good service.
B. L.
Great 100% vegan pub with really good food and a nice atmosphere. The only reason I’m giving it 4* is because even though the food is great, the portion size is too small for the price. I’m happy to pay a bit more for good vegan food but I like to finish my meal feeling full. If they up their portions, I’ll up my rating to 5*!
S. M.
Went there on my own for lunch for the first time and I felt as if I was at home.
Staff was friendly, took my order with reasonable waiting time, food and drink came quickly and overall it was an enjoyable lunch.
Famous “hens of the woods” burger was delicious however it made realised that the blue cheese mayo is too strong for my taste buds.
Chickpeas chips were 100% great, nevertheless, not too many for a price of 6£...
I regretted not trying a desert, may be on the next visit.
Overall I recommend this beautiful local place for its decor, staff friendliness and food too. :)
Y. L.
Amazing pub grub done to perfection. Try the scallops, tacos tofish and chicken burger and you won’t regret it!
F. K.
Nice friendly staff, food was good. All vegan whuch was excellent.
v. b.
Looove spread eagle. Now already been four times. Food is amazing and cocktails to die for. Love this place. Trendy vibe
R. S.
Absolutely love this place! Really stand-out, excellent food and cocktails. The truffled celeriac soup on the festive menu is probably one of the best thing I have ever eaten. Lovely, friendly staff make the whole experience great. I also appreciated the zero-waste concept. Can’t wait to go back!
F. W.
Club Mexicana at The Spread Eagle is delicious as always. Located close to Homerton Overground Station, they’re hands down the best vegan restaurant in the area, a big call given the number of quality restaurants in hackney and east London. Favourites of the night were the Seitan chicken wings, the tofish tacos and the tequila lime pie which has made it back onto the menu after a years hiatus. Club Mexicana is good food full stop, regardless of whether it’s vegan or not and is definitely a must visit.
M. T.
Buzzing and lively pub with a delicious mexican menu that is incidentally vegan but hearty enough that non vegans won't care. Quite loud (from lots of people. Rather than music) but nice vibe and not expensive or overly.hipster feeling.

As a non vegan, I was very pleasantly surprised at the variety and flavour of the food on offer. Beer was good too.
C. K.
The best pub roast around! A wonderful place with a fantastic ethos. The staff are incredibly lovely and really make your visit special.
v. b.
One of our favourites. We keep going back!!! Super yum vegan food and staff are amazing
C. A.
Really amazing food! And service!
Fish tortilla and deep fried ice cream are to die for. Also had a good game of Jenga while waiting for the food
S.
Love this pub. Great selection of booze, fab (vegetarian) menu, always lovely staff. Love the decor and ambiance.
H. B.
Lovely vibe, wonderful staff and great drinks (+their prices). Music sooo loud (although absolutely banging), it was impossible to hear someone across the table. Food was way too overpriced for being vegan and portion size did not match the price (especially dessert). Other than that if you like meat substitutes, these are on the better side.
Overall would go there for drinks if in the area with a couple (not too many so we can chat easily) friends 😊
S. N.
Lovely place and service. The food was a little bit weird. Served just vegan food.
R. B.
Food was absolutely amazing!
Staff were lovely; all in all a great experience
Thanks again!
A. F.
Had high expectations on this one, came with my omnivore friends to show them how vegan food can be banging.
Ordered the pie and was told this one would take 25 min. Fair enough, challenge accepted. 70 min and a couple drink later, still nothing.
we canceled and left and were told in a blaming way that it would have been just another 2 min and that the food was “on its way”...
3 stars for the initiative of going full vegan. Total fail tho
J. J.
Great food, we had the ploughman's board, carrot and fluffy rice, mushroom styled toast and to finish it all off with a cheese board.
Although service charge wasn't mentioned (12.5%) on the menu, it was well deserved. Hope it goes to the staff 😊
A. B.
Went for brunch recently. Decent experience. Great vegan food and cocktails. Staff were very friendly but slightly unattentive, spending quite a lot of time at the bar. Had to actually get up out of my seat to grab attention. Would be 5 star otherwise.
Would suggest patrolling tables more often otherwise could be missing out on further orders/sales.
l. r.
This vegan food is absolutely banging! Had the cheeseburger, triple fried potatoes (most delicious dressing on, please put more on it) and bangin' greens + wine. Great music, staff and atmosphere. Glad to have finally been able to go there! Keep up the good work :)
A.
This pub is wonderfully unique with exceptional food and drinks, some of the best vegan food I've ever had! Reasonably priced and stunning decor. The perfect local hang out, you can see why it has won so many awards!
K. M.
This place is amazing - delicious food, 💣cocktails and great staff.
D. l. U.
Nice vegan pub in east London. Beautiful food (although portions are a little on the small side) and cocktails were amazing. The owner/manager was lovely and the lady who served us was friendly and polite and fun. However what made it a downer was that we were basically told to leave as they needed the table in a rather abrupt way by some scouser millennial man-child. We had just spent almost £300 in there and working in customer service I expect a little more tact and manners when asking people to move seats. Definitely makes me think about booking there again.
T. M.
Surprised "Vegan" searched in Google maps brought me to a pub! But INCREDIBLE find for spontaneous trip ON MY WAY to an event, hungry, new area, Unexpected class and style inside.. in Homerton... DELICIOUS food.. found it difficult to believe it was going to have ANYTHING vegan and was astonished to see the menu state it's 100% vegan! BETTER EVEN to taste how amazing it was! Not often to find vegan and GLUTEN FREE TOO, I actually enjoy... absolutely pleasured and want to buy more after the event. Tasty, friendly and quick even when busy... shocker in such a good way. I don't drink so don't like pubs and avoid anything that looks like one also, even for food as I rarely expect good food let alone vegan AND GLUTEN FREE. Tacos were beautiful in flavour and moisture rich... wow. Yummy! More of this quality in London please! Love the uprising of consciousness as I'm so glad I can eat suitable food anywhere and be pleasured also by taste as well as aesthetic, AND service !
K.
Great atmosphere, friendly service and delicious variety of plant-based food on the menu - arguably the best value vegan Sunday roast in London!
T. U.
I've had two really wonderful evenings here recently, one for my partner's 30th. The ambience is warm, welcoming, the food is delicious, the staff are very attentive and beyond friendly. Leah in particular looked after our party tirelessly and kind of made us feel like old friends.
I was sad to see the previous tex-mex menu go, but the new menu has filled its shoes nicely. Pie, mash & liquor highly recommended, as is the chicken burger. We'll be back time and time again.
E. W.
Great drinks, a nice atmosphere and really friendly bar staff with some quality patter (especially the scottish barman and Stacy Solomon)
P. W.
The pub is a lovely space, there are a few really clear things that could be done to make it a 5* experience:
Food quality for price seems to come up o here several times and have to agree. We got “buffalo” burgers and really like hen of the woods, which was decent, but the burger felt cheap with the one bit of lettuce and pale tomato slice. The bun was cold and a bit hard and the ratio of filling to burger meant it was very bready. Not much else and basically a plain vegan chicken burger nothing buffalo about it. For a tenner it also didn’t come with chips or anything else so that was a let down and kind of killed the meal tbh. Pudding was decent; good helping of sticky toffee, that cheered the meal up a bit and made us not cry over the bill. Overall I’d come back for the ambience and a drink but not food.
H. S.
Loved this place. Such a nice atmosphere and greasy vegan food. 😍
D. M.
Great pub with superb vegan food!
N. G.
Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Had Mojito and white wine which were both top notch - truly delicious! We also had the vegan tacos (Al Pastor and "fish") - they were out of this world! To top it off our waiter, Chloe, gave us the friendliest and most attentive (without being overbearing) service we could ever ask for! Thank you Chloe :) Will be back next time we're in town!
H. M.
Turned up on a Sunday evening with a friend around 5pm, found a free table immediately in the gorgeous outside area. Great beer selection, I enjoyed that they had Siren Brewery's Calypso which is perfect for the summer season. Ordered some proper 10/10 food (you should get the deep fried cheese) which came super quickly, that's always a plus.
All the staff were awesome, they were all so helpful and knowledgeable as well as being generally friendly and nice people. Overall this only added to the light and happy atmosphere at The Spread Eagle.
Thanks to all the staff, had a great evening!
K. D.
Absolutely amazing vegan food! Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff who just seemed to work really well as a team. Wish I lived nearby!
M. M.
Great vegan food by Club Mexicana, nice ambience in the pub especially the unique purple-lit shrine room with sofas out the back. Very friendly staff, good range of drinks. Main reason to check it out was for the vegan food but to be fair it's a lovely pub in its own right.
N. d. P.
New owners/management about 18 months ago and reverted to its original name. This is a great pub - central island bar is always a winner! Packed, so clearly popular. Very weloming staff and table service was provided if required. The food is Mexican in style and whilst not cheap, it us very tasty. If you didn't know, you wouldn't notice it is vegan. Excellent!
T. S.
What a gem! The food here is incredible.
A few years ago it was a pretty normal thing to do to trek half way across London to go to seak out good vegan food. These days there's so much choice there's no real need to. But you should make the trek for this food!
I wondered on Saturday why I was being dragged through the pissing rain half way across London to an area, which after looking on a map it turns out I have been to before it just looked different without frozen winds and sideways rain, to negotiate the Uber Jump Bikes' parking policy in Hackney, which makes no sense, we just parked it and took the fine, but it was worth the trip.
It's a lovely setting, it's relaxed and not too loud and the staff were great. But really none of that matters, the food was ace. And that's what will make me go back. I wish more veggie/vegan restaurants in London took after this example and make the food awesome, before worrying about the rest.
J. A.
I had a birthday here with quite a large group and everything was perfect. Food and staff are amazing and super friendly, really lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it! I now have a growing obsession with their Tofish Tacos!
J. P.
We went for a Sunday roast, fantastic to see a menu entirely vegan! Definitively recommend this place. Lovely staff too.
W. M.
Amazing pub! Beautifully designed, amazing food, but above all the staff are incredible. We were in for a birthday last night and were not the easiest table to serve but the staff were all so lovely and accommodating and made it such a fun night and birthday celebration. My new favourite pub in London - we'll be back!
C. W.
Lovely vegan options, Grace was a fantastic waiter for our stay, will definitely go back!
A.
Loved the food!!!! Amazing choice and a great vibe. Went with my fiance who loves a bit of meat and he did not feel it was missing in any of the menu. I could eat everything without checking all the ingredients for once. Fresh flavours and ingredients. Place was packed and we were glad to have book a table.
The interior design is perfect and you could easily spend the whole day comfortably sinking in to one of the sofas and having a good ol chatter with the person next to you.
We experienced a bit of a mishap with one barman but that was swiftly responded to, in short we received excellent customer service and I have amended my review in response.
Thanks Sherri for taking time to listen to our feedback. We shall definitely come again and recommend all veggie/vegans and carnie eaters alike to come here.
J. D.
Really liked it here. The vegan Mexican food is excellent (the deep fried cheese in particular is delicious). Lots of decent beer, friendly staff. It's sometimes worth booking on Fridays and Saturdays.
L. D.
1st visit to a vegan pub to celebrate a friends birthday. Great food (I’m not a vegan) thought I was eating chicken!! Plenty of it as well. Staff were wonderful and very friendly. Great atmosphere and everyone in there seem settled for the entire evening.. would highly recommend . Well done to the new owners, you are doing a great job.. Linda

A lively pub with great ambience and decor, we were seated quickly and ordered a few sides each, as well as the MFC burger, which was delicious! The pan-fried 'scallops' were an innovative take on the classic, and the tacos were great. All the food is vegan, but the non-vegans in our group didn't feel like they missed out. Great space for birthday groups or intimate dates, would recommend to all.
W. B.
Delicious vegan food and decent selection of beers and cocktails. We will be coming back there very soon! Lovely place
N. H.
Funky vibe and music. More of a party pub. Serves cocktails and the usual beers.
j. P.
Good place for having a beer. I liked the atmosphere and decoration. Also it is dog friendly. But a bit dissapointed with the portions of food. They were too small for the price. The burritos are a good option though.
D. G.
Great food, excellent service
H. F.
Absolutely love it here. The best cocktails. Didn’t even realise they had a garden pre-pandemic but thank god they do
M. C.
Visited after first lockdown. Great staff, felt welcome. Good food. Even if dessert was too sweet for us, our waiter provided us with smth else. Big portions, nice atmosphere.
M. F.
Wonderful waitress, think her name was Batarina, provided us with the most AMAZJNG vegan roast. Thanks for how welcome you made us feel, you bloody legend. Hvala vam
N. A.
Amazing atmosphere and decor and the food was superb! We ordered a small dishes which really filled us up! Staff also so accommodating and friendly. An enjoyable fri night!!! Highly recommend
C. M.
Amazingly delicious food and friendly staff!
S. H.
Lovely vegan roast. Brilliant selection of drinks. And a very welcoming vibe
s.
We went for the vegan Xmas dinner and I have to say to was absolutely delicious. The service and pub in general was fantastic. Also I loved the music played, mix of indie/soul/electronica
K. S.
Amazing pub with an excellent menu and great staff.
D. P.
A great welcome from friendly staff. A music choice that made you wonder if they’d checked your date of birth beforehand coming in and tailored it to suit. Nice drinks.
Then the food.
Oh, the food.
I tried Club Mexicana at Field Day in Brixton last year and I knew I had to try it again. Vegan junk is not the rarity it once was, I don’t have to go Berlin for a kebab anymore, but some people do it better than others and Club Mexicana do it better than most.
The initial disappointment of the deep fried cheeze being unavailable was offset by the chickn wings (maybe a bit more hot sauce would be nice, but the green stuff was delightful), the tacos (the tofish taco is just wonderful, the others run a close second) and the triple fried potatoes with the red pepper sauce were bloody marvellous. The 2 deserts, the tequila lime pie and the chocolate tart were equally splendid. It says something that even after finishing and relaxing on a big sofa I was getting massive food envy watching people being brought their meals that I hadn’t chosen on the menu. I could have carried on beyond what is humanly possible and socially acceptable.
I will be heading back there for brunch as soon as I can, then I’ll kill time and go back at 5 for the evening menu again.
Well worth a detour to the east.
Y. P.
Great wine selection and a really delicious orange wine! Lived in the area for 5 years and there has always been really lovely staff every time that I have visited. Seems like a great atmosphere. Really love this place!
o. w.
The food is really good, and I say this as a meat eater. The deep fried 'cheese' is particularly good, like a mild gooey cheddar - definitely the closest vegan cheese to actual cheese I've tried. The tacos are great, punchy flavours, the marinated 'pork' was especially tasty - you would never say you were eating meat but it provides a very good alternative.
However, there's no getting away from the fact, that unless you choose a burger (this food lends itself to small bites, I wouldn't have wanted a whole plate of anything, but the small sizes kept things interesting) it is expensive. I paid £28 for essentially a quick lunch and pint, which is a lot for pub food that doesn't contain any expensive meat. A little less pricey and I would happily come back time and again, but at that price it's a little hard to justify. For example, £10 for 3 tacos would normally seem good value, but really you need 6 to even start to fill you up, so suddenly the cost can spiral. A slightly lower cost lunch menu would keep me interested!
A. P.
Amazing vegan food and brilliant cocktails
Highly recommend pie and mash also tomato salad is perfect
Great atmosphere and deco here and staff friendly offer advise on menu
J. V.
Love this pub, great vibes. Also really good Mexican food, which is hard to find in London. Great selection of drafts, owe it’s vegan too so no furry friends were harmed.
B. R.
Really welcoming. Gave us table service & the food was amazing. All the staff were so friendly & we found the atmospheric brilliant. Plus they are very dog friendly
C. V.
As always, tasty vegan food, good midweek offers on.
S. D.
Very friendly spacious pub with great staff, good selection of beers and a nice garden out the back. They've just been open for a week and it's great to see they have maintained such a warm atmosphere. Glad the pub has gone back to the original name it had in 1752 when it first opened.
T. W.
Really quirky and lively place with very friendly and happy staff. 1st visit and can’t wait to revisit!
Food is great, some dishes are a bit like “fine dining vegan”.
Good music and chilled atmosphere. A gem in the heart of Hackney!
T. M.
Been waiting 20 mins at the bar. They need to employ more bar staff. Friendly staff and great vibe but need to get the basics right! Also, vegan junk food isn't for me but they've done a good job of it if that's your thing. Great music too!
W. A.
Good friendly pub good beer vegan food
J. E.
This isn't a pub you travel across London for, but if you live in Hackney and Homerton, you should consider making this your local. An excellent selection of rotating guest beers on cask and keg, and I'm assured a brilliant kitchen, though i haven't eaten here myself.
Really friendly staff and knowledgeable. Showing a selection of live sports, with a quiz night and various offers on during the week.
Family friendly and well priced. This is my local.
Kind of a kooky decoration style but adds to the charm of it.
G. R.
Love it here! Great food and great vibes!
E. M. (. M.
Lovely bar, excellent vegan food, good music and lovely waitress. Did not like an automatic 12% service charge. The lovely waitress removed it which I appreciated. Of course left lovely waitress a tip x x
k. m.
Great venue. 100 % vegan, food n drink. Pie mash n parsley sauce or liquor if you like. Was great with a really nice ambience.
J. W.
Great beer and really friendly staff. I'm not really into the 'sugar shack' American style food, everything's a bit too sweet but other people seem to like it. My only complaint is the decor - feels like they've just randomly grabbed every hipster cliché they could think of and chucked it around at random. But hey if you want to have your photo taken in a glass box with a stuffed raven this is the place to come!
D.
Absolutely top notch food, even for my fussy, meat loving buddy. Very friendly staff and a nice crowd. It was pretty busy and loud (as you would expect for a Saturday night) and as a result the barmaid misheard our food order. Bummer? Well, yes, but an honest mistake profusely apologised for with free beers for all offered up as recompense for the wait! Beavertown on tap. Great atmosphere, sitting at the bar stuffing your face. like a Catalonian tapas joint and a pub. Go!
F. L.
We couldn’t expect a better vegan Sunday roast in cosy blue atmosphere! Will come back for sure!!!
C. C.
I had a delicious & really filling two course meal & drinks here. The fried cheez sticks are so good. And the nachos & fresh as f*** salsa were possibly the best I've ever had. Thanks & keep up the good work!
A. B.
Great pub with delicious food, friendly staff, a well curated drinks range including local beers, and lovely decor. It's a vegan pub but the food was very popular with non-vegans in our group. I strongly recommend visiting.
I. S.
I like the atmosphere but just wish they could have more vegan options
M. H.
The food here is awesome, the beer is well kept and staff are friendly and very helpful. I had the vegan hot wings, I recommend them!
S. R.
Nice pub but they should have made it more obvious it was vegan.
Ordered wings, thought they'd brought the wrong dish (even though they looked like wings ish).
Waitress was classic vegan condendesdeing when informing me of my mistake.
Clientele was 60% people looking like extras from 80's music videos.
I'm off down the chicken shop now, won't be going back.
M. M.
Really nice pub. Cosy place, nicely designed. Good beers on tap. Excellent food if you’re in to vegan stuff
S. A.
Just excellent vegan food, can be enjoyed by all and great service
J. S.
I reviewed this place when it was The Jackdaw and Star and nonvegan and find this vegan reincarnation much tastier (my carnivore husband not so much sadly). I first had Club Mexicana when it was in residence at another place and lovedddded the tacos. This time I didn’t love it as much but it was still very, very good. I got the pan seared “scallops” as a starter and was pleasantly surprised at the oyster mushrooms’ texture- very much like scallops! Different taste of course :) But didn’t taste like your typical mushroom: juicier and with a distinct flavour of its own. I then had the “al pastor” of which I found a healthy amount on a corn tortilla, mixed well with the salsa. I found it very tasty but I think adding cheeze would have enhanced the flavour. Two for £7 is also bit pricey for this girl who used to live on the Texas-Mexico border and is accustomed to amazing, cheap Mexican food. I liked the corn tortilla chips of the chips and salsa plate (plus a good amount of chunky guacamole).
Finally this place’s funky and colourful interior wins me over: bright blue-painted walls and blue velour chairs and random paintings all around with a Day of the Dead-like shrine dedicated to Prince! Love it. Plus it’s dog-friendly :)
S. T.
Despite only being able to sit in the beer garden (because of covid restrictions) the food and service were excellent. I look forward to returning.
K. M.
Amazing place...friendly staff. Lovely relaxed decor great money spent on, pool table...if you choose to have a quiet pint ppl respect that if you choose to have a conversation woth someone, everyone is so friendly.....perfect balance...havent tried the food yet but looks and smells so nice everytime they bring it out...not enough stars provided by Google to rate the place properly.
L. L.
A place for people with great taste in music, food and decor. Delicious vegan Mexican food, colourful walls covered in funny artwork and Prince memorabilia and all to a soundtrack of Blondie, Stevie Nicks, Madonna and, of course, Prince. I'll definitely be returning.
P. S.
Great selection of craft beer, comfy, cool looking pub, friendly bar staff. No food on the evening we visited, but not an issue for us as we just wanted a couple of midweek pints. Would go again.
J. K.
The best fries I have ever eaten. A place that takes something as little as fries to perfection - how good might all the other treasures on their menue be? I will for sure find out when I come back.
F. “. L.
Great cocktail menu with a variety of original and unique combinations. Good food as well.
D. l. U.
Nice vegan pub in east London. Beautiful food (although portions are a little on the small side) and cocktails were amazing. The owner/manager was lovely and the lady who served us was friendly and polite and fun. However what made it a …

Amazing pub! Beautifully designed, amazing food, but above all the staff are incredible. We were in for a birthday last night and were not the easiest table to serve but the staff were all so lovely and accommodating and made it such a fun night and birthday celebration. My new favourite pub in London - we'll be back!
L. D.

New owners/management about 18 months ago and reverted to its original name. This is a great pub - central island bar is always a winner! Packed, so clearly popular. Very weloming staff and table service was provided if required. The food …
D. K.
Great service squeezing our table of 5 walk in. Recommend to book a table for food. Which is amazing. Beavertown on tap and great vegan food, what more can you also for!
R. S.
Great vegan food, traditional pub atmosphere, friendly staff.
J. V.
Love this pub, great vibes. Also really good Mexican food, which is hard to find in London. Great selection of drafts, owe it’s vegan too so no furry friends were harmed.
L. B.
Excellent food
J. H.
The atmosphere and food was top notch. The baked Shamembert is an absolute must! We had excellent service from Luke. Would highly recommend this place.
A. F.
Reallllly good brunch and good cocktails
F. P.
Best for drag quiz fun, good people, good music, and vegan food.
N. G.
We had a great time on our date night, the food was delicious and the service was spot on. The pub is fully dog friendly too, which meant that we could bring our little dog with us.
P. S.
Amazing place, but bring back the flatbread falafels dish please - that was just ridiculously good.
C. D.
Nice vibe. Tasty mexican (ish) style vegan food designed to mimic meat and fish dishes you know and love. Sometimes tho i do prefer the veggies to take centre stage rather than meat pretenders. But thats a minor quibble
S. D.
Rather than present veganism through the lens of fresh vegetables, grains and fruit, simply and expertly prepared, this pub showcases a litany of well-liked meat dishes made with various meat and dairy substitutes, each heavily processed to recreate the bite of meat and the stringiness of melted cheese.
If you like being able to recognise what’s on your plate, or value freshness, then this isn’t the place for you. You won’t find a single dish with an intact piece of vegetable in it.. no roasted squash, baked celeriac, or cauliflower steak, or any other vegetable for that matter. I doubt they even get a daily delivery of veg from the New Covent Garden market.
I admire the goal of introducing people to veganism in order to reduce our reliance on the inhumane and wasteful practice of raising animals for meat, but I question whether turning to meat-like replicas of “dirty food” or “street food” is folly, in the same vein that Cheez Whiz and Velveeta which were invented in the 70s weren’t improvements on real cheese.
Go for the friendly service and a cheerful like-minded crowd, have a snack and a drink or two. Then head down to your green grocer to buy your dinner supplies.
H.
good selection of 100% vegan food and craft beer. MFC burger is pretty good but personally I prefer less mustard sauce almost covers the taste of other ingredients..
A. C.
One of my favourite places in London. Amazing food (the tofish tacos in particular), great vegan cocktails and great beer selection
C. M.
Great selection of craft beers, excellent BBQ style food with decent veggie option. Knowledgeable bar staff. Smoking area at rear that closes in the evening.
M. “. O. K.
Nice vibe going on and good range of craft beers. Didn't eat on my last visit but food looked and smelled great! Staff friendly and homely
P. A.
Great atmosphere and tasty food. Reasonably priced too!
G. E.
My favourite pub in Homerton! Staff is super friendly, feels like home. The chef comes and chat with every single customer making the food taste even better.
V. M.
I went to the Spread Eagle tonight for the fisrt time. The staff is really nice, and helpful , the food is excellent even if I'm not vegan. The decoration and the atmosphere is just great.
J. F.
The venue is a charm and the food is yummy.
Only minus was when dj came in and turned the volume up threefold all of sudden.
It wasn't the music it was the inconsideration.
Would definitely come back however.
A. M.
Music bit loud, and it would be best to say on the menu that the food is all vegan, palming off mushrooms as scallops is against the trade discription act, I would of thought, still its a pub that I would use again, when I the area, staff were all very welcome, and polite.
S. L.
Love it 🌱
R. G.
The most welcoming pub I've ever been to, the cocktails are like works of art, it's beautifully decorated and has a cosy garden, and the food is always delicious, 11/10 - couldn't recommend more!
M. M.
Welcoming spot on Homerton High Street where the cool kids gather to eat, drink and socialise - excellent craft ales and a mindblowing Vegan mexican guest restaurant running the kitchen on Thu-Sun (Club Mexicana). Don't miss the 'To-fish' or sweet potato 'chorizo' tacos or the happy ending vegan ice creem sandwich! To die for!
Welcoming atmosphere, cool crowd ... a place to rest recharge and revive, meet the cool kids, or celebrate with friends
I've been back and the food gets better and better!!
G. M.
I go there for the fries :). Theres something about them, that i havent felt it with any other fries i have had a relationship with :). I feel like they are the one I wanna spend my life with. And lets not talk about the black bean.
K. T.
Great staff and atmosphere. Lovely food too!
S. “. C. R.
Nice little pub, a little on the pricey side but good beer and food. I found the place a bit loud for my liking, but I guess that is personal. Lovely staff.
M. S.
Good pilsner here. Unlike many pubs, a deep and crisply cool pilsner served up. So many London pubs serve tepid dirty yellow water. Not here. Good effort SE.
H. C.
The food here is 10/10, we ordered practically everything on the menu! The cheeze sticks and baja tofish tacos were especially good. Great atmosphere and friendly staff too.
L. M.
We stopped for something to drink. Very cool place the waiters were very kind. Good job
K. C.
AMAZING South American vegan food. The 'cheese' sticks are absolutely delicious! Friendly staff and cool settings.
D. M.
Was served by a kind young gentlemen from the north east.
He was extremely knowledgable about craft ales, after describing my tastes to him he served me with an ale which suited my palette perfectly.
He also signed me up to the bars loyalty card scheme which I understand is a bit like the tesco clubcard.
Y. H.
Loved the decor and atmosphere in this quirky pub, serving all-vegan Mexican food. I thought it was all delicious, even as a non-vegan.
M. B.
Incredible vegan food in a lovely pub. The stag were very friendly. Very children friendly. Definitely try the 'cheese' sticks
S. H.
Really great vegan food and cocktails.
Make sure you book a table ahead of time on Friday nights & weekends if you wish to guarantee a table.
D. C.
London's first fully vegan pub, with vegan Mexican food from Club Mexicana. A proper old fashioned boozer - with lots of great craft beer

Great atmosphere during the week. Nice local pub, bar staff lovely+friendly and good variety of beers.
P. B. O.
There needs to be some sort of committee on how many places are allowed to be named The Spread Eagle.
5 out of 5 good pub beer was good.
T. S.
If you’re ever in Homerton in need of a drink, some nibbles, or a full on stuff-your-face-till-it-hurts meal, Jackdaw and Star is where to go. Not only does the newly refurbished pub sit on a corner less than five minutes walk from the station but everything inside it is beautiful – people, food, drink and decor.
To read more of what Jackdaw and Star has aboard go to the Twenty Something London website

Club Mexicana winning at the vegan food game! Nice decor and not too heaving when I went, but was told that's a rare instance.
