Reviews of The Sun Inn
C. W.
We had a first class Sunday lunch here today. Roast beef, nice and pink plus all the trimmings!
The staff couldn't have been nicer too. They bought extra gravy when I asked which was rich and glossy!
G. G.
for the first time in England and in Barnes. delicious food and beer!
sorry for bad english😊
B. M.
Great lunch menu. Very nice staff.
S. P. (.
Lovely pub with, as always, a warm and friendly welcome, they have a great selection of Ales, Lagers and Cider plus wines and spirits...lots of different gins if that's your thing, I have eaten here before and can safely say the food is excellent, good quality and quantity.
If you're ever in Barnes I'd recommend you pop in
F. F. (.
Never had a bad meal here, terrific charcuterie /cheese boards (bit small for the money), excellent classics such as bangers and mash
A. D.
Fantastic Sunday lunch, the pub was incredibly busy but the food was very well prepared and spot on in every aspect, a special nod of appreciation to Cheero who offered us an outstanding service and his fun insights on life. 5 stars and beyond 👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏻
N. J.
Really good Sunday lunch, food was perfect and the portions very generous, a tad expensive drinks( although standard these days )Ciro provided us with a very professional service and keeping a warm and friendly attitude throughout our visit. Would recommend for anyone looking for a local place with fantastic food and excellent service .

I’m not a fancy man, probably not even a smart man but golly this was some of the best food I’ve ever had. I had the half roast chicken with rosemary fries and it was insanely good. My date had the salmon and they repeated the trick. For the hat trick we had the Eton mess which was a beautiful combo of sweet meringue and tart blackberry. It’s well worth the money, trust me
J. S.
I really enjoy coming here. The place is super cosy, staff are pleasant and accommodating, food is really tasty, with vegan and veggie options. In the winter the fireplace is warm and inviting and in the summer, there are plenty of outdoor tables both in the sun and shielded from it. A real Barnes gem.
N. P.
Hi I know it's a week late, we came last Sunday for lunch and I have to say it was amazing but when we asked for irish coffee's the waitress said we can have the coffee and whisky but we have no cream, I find it hard to believe you serve at least 70 + meals, sweets on a Sunday and don't have cream for irish coffee's or maybe the bar couldn't be bothered or you need to check your stock as you know cream and ice cream is one of the main ingredients to accompany a sweet.
N. D.
We just had one of the best family roasts we have had in a long time!! Giant yorkshires, succulent meat, tender veg, it was all amazing. The place is so cosy, attentive staff and extremely family friendly. We will definitely be back hence the 5 star review.
J. J.
A very good pub and getting better all the time. Their selection of beers has increased massively. The food is very good here also. Very reasonably priced. The only down side is they have to the burgers well done for health and safety reasons. Which I can't stand.
D. T.
A delightful 'Tardis' pub, deceivingly large inside with many nooks and crannies in which to settle and enjoy something from the excellent range of beers and wines. A most enjoyable visit to a lovely pub in the heart of Barnes, next to Barnes pond.
If there is a ducking stool for any local witches my day will be made! A fine pub, well worth a visit.
M. C.
Came out on the past Sunday during the night - Ella (Elle?) was on bar and treated us so well.
Would recommend
M. O.
Well presented food and outstanding service provided by Chris & Ciro, both very charming and attentive. Mum loved the risotto and I found the garlic chicken simply stunning, will surely visit again pretty soon . 5 stars and more
J. C.
Great food (cracking gravy), good choice of beers, friendly atmosphere.
B. M.
Great food! Great service! Great location! -- popped in for a quick meal whilst visiting in South London and was blown away
S. M.
Very spacious with lots of seating indoors as well as outside. Great views of the pond, always a friendly staff team, good food and selection of wines, beers and spirits. Accessible for people with disabilities and disabled toilets.
P. L.
Good outside spaces and location, drinks are on the pricier end but it is Barnes. Pub snacks are of good quality.
j. o. l.
Lovely traditional pub with a good range of beers and regular service, loads of room inside and out. Heat lamps for outside as well
M. P.
Fabulous pub atmosphere in a lovely location. Definitely our favourite pub in Barnes. The food is delicious as well!
M. P.
Great atmosphere friendly staff and good choice of food and drink (ouch on beer prices!)
T. L.
Good pub, very traditional yet modern feel to it. Decent pub food and very friendly staff.
I. C.
What a perfect spot. Friendly and chilled staff, delicious food, little secure spot outside for the bike. Could have stayed all afternoon! Cheers guys!
J. 0. S.
A nice and excellently located pub opposite Barnes Pond. Friendly staff and large outside area.
Staff area great. This pub was marked down for having such retrograde opening hours. Closing at 1030pm/11pm is so last century!
Needs to reintroduce midnight closing.
j. c.
Delicious Roast, beautiful pub and great service. Thanks for a perfect Sunday.
R. S.
Lovely pub, great staff good beer and drinks
B. L.
Great pub with a nice front garden area ,good variety of food/drink items. The lovely Italian chap took very good care of us and our four legged friend. We will surely visit again .
J. H.
I found the Sun Inn a pleasant place to be. The food was good, the court yard nice to socialize as it was covered but open. As a part of the Barns area the Sun Inn is a place where you cannot hear the nearby traffic, so meeting friends here is a good experience.
T. H.
Great staff, nice ambience and the draught is fairly well kept. The food is also very good. Always a pleasure visiting here.
J. R.
A really nice pub. It has a massive beer garden with a great beer selection and a great Sunday roast.
a. d.
Delicious roasts in a cosy pub. Excellent service from Ciro 🥰 would recommend!
V. C.
It was nice enough, first outing for over a year!!! The thing is sitting outside is great if it's warm but as soon as the sun goes in or the wind kicks up, you so wished you were indoors. Had a couple of cocktails, a salad & halloumi fries, nicely presented, salad leaves were kinda big(I didn't order a chopped salad but I would have appreciated it being cut smaller) Halloumi fries were cooked to perfection but super salty(I know halloumi is salty but these fries tasted as though the had been salted) so worth having but have a glass of water to hand. Cocktails were spot on, as good as any cocktail bar. Will definitely be going back when the option is there to sit in😍😍😍
C. M.
Nice authentic English pub. Went back two days after our first visit because it was that good. The Sunday roast did not disappoint, the food is really good. Post covid-19 lockdown this will become our local. Do yourself a favour and visit this pub. The staff are all super friendly as well. Can't think of anything negative at all.
S. H.
A bit pricy but really tasty food and the owner knew his things!
S. M.
Deliciously good visit after a glorious wander through Kew Gardens, so we were more than ready for supper. Lovely people, warm welcome and a superb meal which we all loved, thank you 👍
B. m.
Homely and friendly place. Can bring your dog xx
K. B.
Great food and choice of beers, Good friendly service.
C. D.
Really deliciois vegan options and staff were great. Only comment is that the waiters and the bar staff kept joking and yelling over our table at each other for the first half of our lunch. Nice to see them happy but not great when you're trying to have a conversation.
M. Q.
Great pub. Gordon and his team have been doing a splendid job during the coronavirus. Reassuringly safe, and efficient. The wonderful staff are all very friendly and adroit. Highly recommended.
K. S.
Lovely pub popped in with my dad today for a pint really made a change from his usual Barnes local ... not been in The Sun Inn since Barnes Fete ... made a lovely change ....
A. S.
Lovely staff and food will definitely be coming here more
S. H.
Loving the car park used to be outdoors...been a while 🤭 will be back! Might have to borrow a kid or dog though 😅
G. T.
A friendly and welcoming pub in the centre of Barnes with great food, well kept cask ales and some good craft kegs. Historical building with great suntrap area outdoors.
K. O.
Lovely cosy pub with amazing roasts 🙌🏼
R. L.
Great place for a few pints. Had to order by app, but that's the norm at the moment. Nice pint of Timothy Taylor. Well kept.
I. S.
Good food & drink; great location in Barnes opposite the "village pond'" & easy to reach by train, so relax & have a drink.
Will go again soon & check it out inside
S. P.
Ordered 2 glasses of Merlot and got charged £24.00p ....a little steep!!!
E.
Nice pub. Sat outside despite the wind and rain but still was a really nice atmosphere. They have a covered patio with outdoor heaters and fairy lights. Friendly service too 😊
R. L.
We had a fantastic Sunday lunch whilst enjoying the sunshine and scenic pond view . Very friendly Italian chap and excellent service .
L. A.
Excellent, very healthy food options back on the menu . The nourish bowl was delish. Nice to see Siro, always charming .
J. E.
Cheeky pint here with friends - they were very accommodating even though we hadn't booked. Efficient and attentive service. Recommended!
Δ. Ν.
Very very good service, nice Pub for afternoon drinks nice location. Will be black for sure....
J. D.
Nice lunch here yesterday. Great staff and service. Great food. Worth the effort to get booked in. Recommended
S. C.
Exceptional Sunday roast! I particularly recommend the Beef and the Nut Roast with the homemade cauliflower cheese on the side. Such a lovely, warm and welcoming local pub!
N. M.
Nice spot, good outside tables and service
M.
Pub with bags of character and very pleasant staff. The food was a mixed bag though: the salmon was overcooked and very oily with not many veg but the sticky toffee pudding was very tasty.
S. C.
A decent range of beers. The food was quite good. The fish & chips was especially good; great batter. The bill was a little high for a pub.
Service was very good and friendly.
A.
A really great pub, with a village green charisma. Wide selection of beers, a good honest menu, but with generous portions and style. Lovely staff - we were EXCELLENTLY looked after at Sunday lunch by ‘Tilly’: v well done her!
D. W.
We went here by chance when visiting a friend in London as her usual spots were fully booked. Glad we did; absolutely excellent food (I think the thrice-cooked chips were the best chips I‘ve ever hard), very nice beers and really fantastic service. Highly recommended!
M. D.
This pub is a good one. It has a large garden where kids can play and adults drink and eat during summer time and also the interiors are nicely done and spacious. Good selection of spirits, beers and wines
M. H.
Great service, good food, nice children's menu. Had a lovely weekend lunch here.
G. T.
Nice to go when the weather is bad outside as there are no windows so probably wouldn’t dine here when it’s sunny outside.
Nice food, always enjoy myself here. Nice steak and Malbec wine for a decent price. Parking however can be a bit tricky.
G. P.
Great beer garden for watching the world go by on a sunny Saturday. Lovely setting. Wish they hadn't done it up all those years ago as used to love the wooden rustic feel but breweries don't seem to be able to help themselves. Still a great pub though.
O. A.
Main course was amazing, literally the best steak I've ever had. Desert was average. Pub has a lovely decor and look, but one half of the pub was really noisy, as there isn't enough soft furnishings. The half we were in was quiet though. Bar/waiting staff very friendly and helpful. Waiting time was quite long for food, though it was Saturday night.
B. C.
I liked this pub food was delicious but had to ask for more mashed potatoes as very very small portion. Also lager was flat and had to return twice. Comfortable and relaxing. Nice garden, lovely staff. Besides my complaints I would go back as had lovely time there.
S. V.
Lovely pond views, very warm and courteous Italian waiter, drinks and food of very high quality , will surely come back !
A. W.
It's the third time we have come to visit. We really enjoy the fact that on Wednesdays you can get a great deal being burger and pint/glass of wine for £11.95.
The first two times were spectacular. Service was still good on this occasion but the burgers were not as they were. It seems that the meat patty is smaller in size and there is less cheese and bacon. Now while this is not a deal breaker the burgers were awesome before. Now the two small bacon strips don't cover the burger.
All in all its a pricy area but this is a good deal and better location with good service. Thanks team

Visited here on a sunny Sunday early afternoon with the family for a good roast. The outside was busy as expected due to the sun. Good selection of beers and drinks. We ordered our roast (5) and starter. After about 35 mins of not receiving food we checked in with the waitress and was told a mistake was done in the kitchen and ordering it all as mains. We cancelled the starter. Once the food arrived, a good 45 mins in, I have to say it was spectacular.
I do have to say though, although service was slow, maybe low staff, the food was great. I would come back again as location is suitable
C. N. M.
The food was delicious and the portion sizes perfect. Do try the scallop starter and the Roast Cod main course! Wonderfully presented, perfectly cooked and a delightful flavour sensation!! Try eating inside for quietness and then a stroll around the pond afterwards!!!
The staff are friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. Do not walk past this gem.
L. A.
The waiter was very nice! The fish excellent, the french fries, well not as good as i like.
The pub was cosy. It was a very nice moment.
S. H.
Made my first visit recently and looking forward to going back. The Sunday lunch vibe was perfect - cosy venue, great food and my dog was welcome.
Staff were friendly, a good selection of beers and the roast was a proper roast (I think that's a technical term?).
X. S.
It was just a perfect experience. Very good quality price! The food was incredible we had duck salad and salmon with green beans. The salad was an explosions of flavors and the salmon was an amaizing mediterranian touch very citric. I am Mediterranean and very facy with food
This was just so good I have even dream with it! I can not wait to come back. Absolutly congratilations to the chef the admorfera was amaizing too and the staff in general too. A bit price if you think in a pub but very good price if you try the quality of food (it is a 5star restaurant for me) Very happy I tried and hardly recommend it! AMAIZING!!!
R. S.
4 stars hygene rating from the food standards agency, from August 17.
Great location and lovely place, but on a very busy Sunday the food took 45 minutes and the chicken was a tad dry and the tuna could have been more hot. The starter of bread, was basically a small role which we found amusing, not the usual selection of breads etc
A. P.
Great pub, excellent food and drinks quality. Ciro is always friendly and welcoming.
D. M.
An amazing view of green and really good drinks! Great place to have a catch up with friends and the service was really good! Clean and tidy and a bast selection on the menu afor a good price!
T. B.
Great pub. Would recommend it highly. The landlord is friendly and the staff too.
D. S.
Lovely large traditional pub that hasn't sold it's soul to the glass and brushed aluminum look.
Quirky different rooms and levels, incredibly cosy with good real ale offering on
Only a short distance from the Thames Path, but well worth taking a detour to
Toilets clean and well maintained
A. A.
Fantastic food and lovely location right by the pond in Barnes. Dog friendly, (the staff were super friendly and helpful). Sunday roast is a must - proper portions of vegetables 🙌🏼 - it’s become a Sunday favourite.
C. P.
Friendly atmosphere with good choice of beers. Spacious with a lovely beer garden, and a disabled toilet for wheelchair users with a ramp to enter and exit the pub. Well done
K. H.
Lovely old pub that's full of life. The staff are super polite and when they have live music on it really is a great venue. Would thoroughly recommend seeking out this hidden gem!
D. S.
Great looking pub, food was great, drinks were good. Guest drinks were a little pricey but delicious.
M. M.
Visited early Wednesday morning in May. Despite not being open at the stated 11am we returned a little later and enjoyed a splendid lunch. Food was tasty and good value with nice selection of real ales too. Can recommend.
J. K.
Wanted to stop for a drink on Sunday afternoon. I asked what desserts they had for children (4 year old) I was offered 3 scoops of ice cream. I asked if they could do half portion or if they had anything else, the answer was a blank no. Didn't really get the feeling that children were welcome. Didn't really get the feeling that I want to come back.
J. R.
Great food, big back garden, and good service. Highly recommended.
C. S.
Really lovely food and great outdoor space
E. E.
Nice location and an excellent selection of beer and wine. Good pub quiz on Monday. The funny smell seems to be gone permanently as well which is positive.
G. K.
A truly superb pub - the atmosphere, the staff, the food, the range of beers, the location. A brilliant spot to spend a long lunch, though worth booking in advance. Thank you!
J. P.
Walked in on a Sunday afternoon, it was very busy but the staff were very attentive and provided great service. Roast beef tasted great and was good value for money. Can recommend.
I. S.
Lovely vibe - loved the atmosphere. The food could be better. I've ordered fish and chips and the cod was soggy and had no texture. Would I come again? Yeah
T. K.
Excellent food and solid beers with the occasional tap takeover
B. W.
Glad to be back at sun inn for drinks and food after such a long time, Ciro Lamba was outstanding and a genuine nice fella to chat to.
M. H.
Great food and drink, very helpful team, thanks very much.
A. R.
Good service, though the app didn't work which was a bit annoying. Lovely outside space and friendly staff.
M. S.
Lovely pint and great veggie burger. Friendly and helpful staff.
E. J.
Really nice little pub. Cosy with a fire in the corner & great selection of beers. Good food menu as well. Child & dog friendly
M. S.
Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere
G. A.
A great pub for summer and winter. Sit outside by the duck pond and watch the world go by when it's sunny, and hibernate in winter with any one of a number of ales or spiced mulled wine. The food is good too, although I can imagine it gets slightly busy on a Sunday for lunch.
E. W.
Gorgeous little old pub. Lunchtime special is s really good deal. Great staff. In the evening a funny smell hits the nose. Better lunchtime.
M. M.
Lovely family friendly pub, great selection of drinks and the food is very good, highly recommend the triple cooked chips! Great location too.
D. W.
Very interesting selection of craft ales on tap, and the food menu has some unique dishes. The weekly quiz is always fun too!
J. G.
We have visited regularly for some time from Battersea and now looking forward to living down the road from our favourite pub! (best bbq burger ever during the boat race).
D. T.
Great staff and warm family atmosphere
J. F.
Great selection of beers and wine. Food is delicious and lovely location opposite Barnes ponds
M. M.
Great pub,good beer too.
G. R.
Had a lovely beer and a nice light lunch in early June. Would definitely return for again if in the area.
Unfortunately there were some unsavoury characters in the garden at the time including an ageing lothario with a bevy of annoying acolytes.
L. W.
Great service, really great burger, nice outdoor space and well organised social distancing. Great experience all round!
J. F.
Very friendly pub near Barnes pond, wonderful setting, good service, nice staff and Great food, I had a lovely time here.
A. H.
Very pleasant, historic pub overlooking the pond. Cosy feel and decent service. Popular with locals and plenty of outside seating on a sunny day.
M. K.
I've only came there for a drink (or two) but can say that I absolutely adore those english pubs with a gppd choice of ales and lovely gardens outside.
A. S.
Great lunch at the Sun Inn. They have a good sandwich lunch deal with a drink included. Lovely location and lots of seating inside and out.
A. C.
Greatly improved from a decade or so ago, when I used to venture in on a Tuesday afternoon, wearing an invisibility cloak to test how long I would have to wait, before losing patience and taking it off.
Good choice of ales.
Engine Oil is remarkable ~ when they have it on.
Lovely interior with nooks and crannies.
As should befit a C17th inn.
S. M.
Food is ok. Decor is ok, but dirty. Service is pretty poor. The beers were good and well kept. However, there is always a weird smell in this place, rather unpleasant. Not sure if its a toilet smell or what.
H. M.
Met friends here for the festive pub quiz, which was really good fun! Only thing that puts you off is slight bleach smell in pub; otherwise great venue!!
G. S.
Really enjoyed a quiet evening here. Some good beers available and the vegan options (manin and desert) were lovely!
D. W.
Nice informal pub, decent pub food, good range of beers and wines. Lots of different spaces inside for groups and quiet corners too.
D. L.
Top pub!
Wonderful, low ceilings, good looking, cosy venue, with lots of space to sit down and relax and catch up with friends.
T. M.
Good food, atmosphere and service
J. E.
Very, very, very, very, VERY SW London. More crèche than pub. Could do with a wider selection of ales on cask. However, it is the best pub in Barnes, which is all you need to know.
D. S.
As always great service, pleasant friendly staff and good food. Weekdays lunch time quieter and more relaxing than weekends. Busy then.
C. S.
Nice food, friendly staff. Worth booking in advance as it gets very busy and tables are taken or reserved.
N. V.
Consistently outstanding food and a very good wine list. Excellent service too
R. J.
Lovely Sunday Lunch...we went Vegetarian and ordered the Nut Roast; it was really good..sticky toffee pudding rounded it of nicely...we will be back...
J. C.
Great pub inside; fantastic in the winter. Okay outdoor space, but it's right up against a parking lot and a fairly busy street.
P. B.
Decent pub food. Place is a bit of Tardis, what feels quite pokey when you walk in is actually quite a large venue.
D. K.
Lovely clean sociable great place to meet and catch up with friends
N. L.
Good beer, great food, lovely ambience. Pity my two favourite ales were out of stock the night I wrote this review, but I struggled through somehow...
L.
Really cosy pub with a lovely atmosphere. Helpful, attentive staff and delicious food. I will definitely be going back :)
A. M.
Still a star in the South West, great bar staff, foods always good. This is a great stop off in the special "island" that is Barnes.
R. P.
At the heart of the riverside village of Barnes on the banks of the Thames, The Sun Inn is an iconic London pub, ahead of the game in providing the perfect service and food.
S. S.
Nice enough pub, but the food was really disappointing. I had the Sunday roast and the vegetables were dry and unappetising.
C. S.
Love this place food great staff are very welcome and friendly
T. P.
Great local Pub with real ales and Belgian beers, a bowling green, flower stall, live bands and a gastro menu.
P. V. d. B.
Lovely pub in winter and summer. Good food but not cheap. Great atmosphere.
C. R.
Wonderful food and a great beer selection. Will come back soon
F. S.
Great food, friendly staff, good choice of drinks. My favourite pub in sw!
S. J.
Attractive pub serving a good varied menu. Overlooking the pond
Would recommend
C. W.
As always, great food and friendly welcome. Good gin choice too!
N. M.
Great food, you have to try it out
E. K.
Great beer and food. Had a cracking pub quiz here on a Monday. Good prices friendlt people.
K. S.
Good food friendly service and an ok external environment.
W. P.
Situated opposite a duck pond, this is the typical village pub, atypically in the middle of London. (I've checked, zone 3 to be precise)
However, the noise and bustle of London can be forgotten in the calm of The Sun Inn beer garden, even the occasional distraction of the TFL bus is not enough to pierce the serenity of village life.
There's no greater place to bask in the glory of the afternoon sun with an Aspalls.
P. S.
Amazing Sunday lunch, sharing dish of Cote du Beouf was wonderful. Friendly staff and great service.
L. M.
A great Sunday lunch with friendly service. Maybe a little expensive but would recommend and return
C. J.
Had an excellent late Sunday lunch here. Very generous portions and good beers.
R. D.
Decent gastropub food at moderate prices. Friendly staff, plenty of seats and different areas. Several beers on tap.
S. G.
Great beers. Lovely spot to watch the football.
P.
Great pub...ok food....perfect on a sunny day with tables outside at the front..bit smokey out back
K. Y.
Nice and friendly pub with a huge outdoor area, offering under covers for the rainiy day, as well for the sunny warm days.
L. N.
Ok atmosphere ok food... Heard that it was supposed to be excellent food but they must have had a bad day when I attended with a family party of 9.
Visited again with a party of 3, not impressed, doubt I'll be going back again.
A. L.
The best pub in Barnes!
M. H.
Greatly enjoyed this pub in Barnes, South-West London. Good beer and nice decor 😁
K. P.
Popular, friendly pub. Worth booking if eating as it does get busy. One of the best pubs in the area.
B. R. P.
Great food and great beers, the staff is friendly and accommodating, we love the sun inn :)
D. W.
Super Sunday lunch, but it could have done with more pork crackling. Excellent selection of ales and a very good wine list
L. M.
Great local pub with a good menu to suit all tastes
W. F.
A very cosy and friendly old village pub... loads of charm and a good range of food & drinks.
E. H.
Good dependable Sunday lunch, beer always seems well kept too. Timothy Taylor Landlord just as it should be.
S. S.
Lovely atmosphere, traditional old English pub and the food is great.
M. S.
The pub was a bit dirty. The tables were not wiped. I had to clean my table so that we could have drinks.
R. K.
Lovely place to stop. Beautiful atmosphere and good choices. Great menu.
T. G.
Good selection of beers. In large good food, but specials could have been a bit better.
T. J.
Excellent food. Great value. Lovely location. Staff very polite
J. S.
Had beer and burger on a lunch special, food was lovely (onion rings deserve special mention) and Doombar on cask was on good condition.
M. G.
Excellent pub with a great atmosphere. Enjoyed experience very much.
D. C.
Great pub, friendly staff and possibly the best heated outdoor area in Barnes.
R. N.
Lovely location with tables outside. The tables down the side aren't very nice though. Nice views over the village green too.
J. W.
Lovely pub in a great location. Gets busy so may need to book
a. m.
Really lovely atmosphere. The team took great pains in getting us food to suit our dietary restrictions.
G.
Big inside. Big beer garden. Food menu is nice and all the usual beers are there as well as guest ales.
K. 1.
Lovely pub in Barnes, great food, highly recommended.

Nice pub the other side of the road from Barnes Green, with outside seating with umbrellas
P. H.
No atmosphere about it but the food was great and it was nice with the fire.
S. S.
Nice relaxing pub
O. B.
Great beer, food is nice. Nice projector outside to watch world cup.
