Reviews of The Victoria
J. H.
What a lovely place! Popped in here on Saturday afternoon with a friend for a couple of drinks. Never been before but made very welcome by exceptionally friendly and customer-oriented staff. Will definitely come again!
J. M.
Absolutely fantastic, we had our wedding reception and it was perfect in every way. Brilliant staff, amazing food and all of our guests raving about how brilliant the experience was - would rate 6 stars if we could. Highly recommended.
N. A. M.
This pub has fantastic food and service. However, it needs major redecorating - quite dated and not in a good way.
J. C.
Really nice pub. Great food with friendly staff and efficient service.
S. D.
Great food, service was a bit slow but there again it was Sunday lunch and a nice sunny day so no rush. Think the roast was a bit pricey at £20 but was a very generous plateful.
J. F.
Very good gastropub with a simple but delicious menu. They have the outdoor seating and service working perfect and it felt very covid safe. A good list of wine and cocktails, local beer on tap (plus a cider), and virgin mojitos and bloody Marys too. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, with nice desserts too. Highly recommended.
d. k.
Love this bar polite and friendly staff and tranquil suroudings NICE 👍.q

I've been here for a couple of work meetings and this place is brilliant. It's in a beautiful neighbourhood and looks great inside and out. The staff have been attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is very very good and not crazy expensive. Totally recommend.
H. T.
Great gastropub and same good old service!
They serve breakfast 6 days a week except Sunday, with the exception of guests staying overnight in the hotel. Dinner is served until 8pm every day of the week.
Chef director Paul Merrett has done a wonderful job of creating a range of menus to suit different times of day and occasions.
Atmosphere in the dining room is airy and well thought out and not pretentious.
Food was delicious, well thought out and presented, balanced in flavours and cooked very well.
Great place to take the family as it is situated in a very relaxed atmosphere and tranquil part of East Sheen.
R. S.
Great little outdoor playground for the kids, very quick and friendly service, quality food. Such a great option for a local drink and bite.
P. R.
We had a big party with around 65 guests with drinks and dinner with a DJ at the end.
Very professional and efficient, excellent service from whole staff. The food (three course meal) was served on time and with perfection.
This is a place we will continue to visit in the future. We can really recommend it to everyone!
S. B.
Very nice refurbishment of bar and other areas of the pub. Slow service - we were the only guests for lunch initially. Very good steak, grilled prawns not good. Absolutely minimal choice of gluten free, although waitress did offer to provide a main without its major accompaniment; not quite the right thing.
Y. B.
Great B&B. The room was nice and clean and had a lovely homemade cookies on arrival! And what’s special about this place was their breakfast! Definitely recommend ‘cooked breakfast’ as they were just amazing! We had a full-English and pancakes with bacons and they were both so generous and good that you felt like coming to an amazing restaurant not an usual B&B!
J. F.
Beautiful pub, very spacious, lovely in the evening with the lights, garden is walled like a little courtyard, will be going back soon.
N. O.
Great food. Lovely patio. Nice and quiet
D. G.
We have been a couple of times recently, and been very disappointed with the service, specifically how slow and inattentive it was. Most recently we went on a Sunday early evening, and had to wait 45 minutes before getting a drink (despite there being very few customers). It's clear there are a lot of very new and inexperienced, so hopefully that will change.
On a positive note, the food, when it eventually arrived, was very good - in fact much better than under the previous owner. It's still fairly pricey, but not out of line with similar offerings elsewhere. So overall a 2 for service and 4 for food giving 3 star average.

Me and my partner stopped for some food at the Victoria last week. The food was really lovely and the setting was beautiful. On the most part the staff were lovely and friendly although 1 member of staff who I believe to be called Matt was so rude to other members of staff in front of customers, which was really off putting to see and listen too whilst eating. He kept storming through the bar area throwing his weight around swearing to who I assume were kitchen staff.
n. g.
Lovely hotel, delicious food and comfortable seating area! Friendly staff! Room tastefully decorated but too warm this was preempted by staff who had a fan going to cool it. Lovely continental breakfast. Good location for Wimbledon too!
S. G.
We went for lunch here as a group and I found my crispy squid and pork belly to be tasty and of fair quality. What I didn't like was that after we had been seated for about 20 minutes they pressurised us by saying they needed the table back by 3pm, their card machine wasn't working so we had to leave our card details & although there were a group of us, we were quite squashed up. With all said, I wouldn't have an issue going back but would hope the above wasn't experienced again.
K. A.
Minor things: Toilet roll holder has a serrated edge and it's location could cause injury.
The plumbing system needs inspection as noisey and slow to drain including the ones located in the pub toilets
Room was comfortable and clean. The food was excellent
K. E.
Had our wedding on the 30/08/19, I can honestly say the staff at the victoria made the day unforgettable. The hospitality and the food (especially the Parma ham and scotch eggs) were incredible we couldn't have asked for more.
Big thanks to Natalie, chef and the rest of the team for a great day
J.
Lovely pub, great service and outdoor space, tasty food and cocktails.
L. F.
Everything that our party of four ordered was both delicious and cooked perfectly (we had hake, burger, fish and chips and the chicken quinoa). Lemon lime cheesecake and sticky toffee were also perfect. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending this pub!
E. K.
Fantastic place! Lovely, knowledgeable manager and great food. As a non red-meat eater, I do wish they did a chicken roast, but my bhel puri was still top notch!
A.
We come here three times a week and we love it. The food is top quality and different. Staff are sooooo friendly. You feel like home away from home. The Sunday lunch is 5***** and you must sit inside by the fire and try their cakes.
L. W.
This used to be a little pricy but amazing gastropub nestled in East Sheen, with nice ensuite rooms. The food was truly good, with a careful attention to sourcing ingredients.
It then changed owners and became a decent gastropub, still on my local favourites list -notably because of its very pleasant garden in summer.
I visited again today and, oh my, it's slipped again. We had fried cheese as starters (okay if a little gross with the mayonnaise) and fried scampis -well if you could find the fish in the 90% of batter. My blue steak was overcooked and the waiter wasn't overfussed by my comment, so I've dropped it. The Cote du Rhone had clearly been opened for a while. And there's no more William Curley truffles to go with the coffees.
Down from five stars to three.
Shame really.

Surely one of London's best 'open secrets' south of the river? Rustic, beautiful setting not far from Richmond Park. Myself and my most special friends meet periodically here. Range and quality of meals is fresher and cleaner than most gastro pubs. The wine list is good by the glass or bottle. Outside dining in the current weather is ideal. Extremely efficient and friendly staff, great service, family friendly and an all-vegetarian menu on Mondays. A good distance from main roads, cosy on bad weather days. Never yet had anything but good times at the Victoria!
J. P.
Lovely, welcoming place. Wonderful food and beautiful décor. Our daughter had her wedding reception here and it was perfect!
A. F. B.
I stayed here for one night and the manager, as well as all the staff, were very helpful. The place is cosy and friendly and the cook made a great effort to adapt to my nutritional vegan needs.
O. B.
Great service and good food.
P. G.
Possibly I was expecting too much, but the reviews and website had me salivating, and the reality was nothing that great. The £20, 28-day-aged steak tasted of very little, the thrice-cooked chips were tepid, dense and oily. But, apart from the food, it was very nice!
F. K.
I love this place, very attentive staff and the food is amazing every single time. Never disappointing. Highly recommended.
P.
The Victoria is delightfully situated among local houses in a quiet street. The food & service is exemplory. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would have loved a little chest of drawers in our room.
J. K.
Friendly, great service, with a lot of care taken for safety during the current climate. The food was delicious, as well!
C. G.
A few minutes walk from Richmond Park is The Victoria, the most delicious place created by restaurateur Greg Bellamy and chef Paul Merrett. The perfect escape on a sunny week-end. This address has seduced many palates and guess what? It was awarded best Greater London region gastropub in 2011. Now why would you miss tasting this?
After a long walk, cheeks all pinked by the fresh spring air, d. Between town and countryside, you will immediately be seduced by the wooden counter, the dark wood, the brick walls, the homey feeling. Tables for two, other nestled along the windows, bigger one to welcome friends, a leather sofa near the fire, a collection of Penguin books, a selection of 25 wines by the glass. Ideal, right?
The Victoria believes, together with skilled cuisine, in the quality of their ingredient. A page of the menu explains in detail the origin of meat, fish, eggs… but also includes anecdotes, the love for British product. They even use a forager. Recycling is a must too, even cooking oil will help to make bio-fuel.
A look at the starters list and I am very intrigued. If I have already tried Jersey rock oysters, they were always raw, with maybe a drop of tabasco sauce. But those - and aren’t they pretty too? – have been opened then cooked straight away in the lightest batter you can imagine, encapsulating the sea flavours. amazing. The texture reminds of mussels, more refined, more melt in the mouth. Beautiful presentation in the oyster shell on mushed-spring-peas. There is, in fact, no need for the tartar sauce, each bite is close to perfection. The magic of this restaurant is also the friendly feeling and the possibility to get chatting with complete strangers. And so I couldn’t resist sharing one of those with the next table, one of the guest having been a chef. We dreamt together, him picturing it with a little touch of lime, me nodding and imagining it.
Absolutely fantastic food. They do B&B too.
J. C.
Amazing spiced dinner with matching wines. Superb evening with fantastic food, excellent service and wines introduced by a Master of Wine. Bring on the next dinner!!!
P. F.
Been here for lunch a few times and always yummy food and very dog friendly with super nice staff. Parking at rear which is a plus as this is in residential area. Walk off your lunch in Richmond Park which is around the corner!
M. W.
Nice bed and breakfast in the heart of Sheen with many shops, restaurants, pubs in the neighborhood. Also within walking distance to Richmond Park. The staff was super friendly and there is a small parking in back. Only problem was the water pressure.
G. P.
I found this place here in Paddington, a wonderful classic pub, lovely pub;have a great selection of ales.I like their food menu specially the sausage; I like also their desserts, very yummy… A lot of staffs are very accommodating, sometimes I got confused who I’m talking with, and who is the one I made a request.
C. R.
Great Sunday Lunch here today.
Friendly, fast service with excellent food and drink. Will be back!
L. R.
Really nice garden area, pretty. The food was great and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back and will bring friends and family.
L. L.
We didn't go inside, it was such a nice afternoon that we sat in the outside area and supervised my nephew in the playground, and enjoyed the company of our relatives. This was a good meeting place and we will come back.
B. M.
One of the areas finest gastro Pubs which has served fine food and fare great service and style as well as a comfy design especially near the fire place in the winter or out doors, for many years.
T. J.
Great location (9/10), lovely staff(10/10), nice food (9/10) adequate rooms, comfortable bed, TV is small but works well, coffee machine which was a little dirty, no Aircon but has a big fan, hardly any noise to say it is a bar as well, desk, and decent bathroom (8/10) would recommend and would come back!
D. W.
Another excellent pub in the Sheen area. Great food, good beer selection and some very nice wines too. Also gets pretty full on weekends so it‘s worth booking ahead.
J. H.
Delicious food, very friendly and accommodating staff. We are looking forward to going back soon!
R. M.

A great little gastro pub - my wife and I eat here regularly. I LOVE their lemon thyme chargrilled chicken and the service is usually excellent. We had one mediocre dish recently but otherwise I would highly recommend it.
A. L.
Lovely small hotel / gastro-pub. The staff couldn't have done more for us! Perfect place to stay if you're visiting Richmond.
T. C.
Great place to stay. Breakfast very nice, pub very nice. Bed was a big on the firm side but slept well. Parking is a bonus in London.
G. B.
Very nice staff, lovely settings and good food
L.
The place itself is lovely however a big let down on food quality. I especially went there as I am gluten free and on the internet it said gluten free just to find out it could not be accommodated.
A. H.
Great Pub, good food, drink & service. The staff & especially the Manager Lea give the atmosphere a great feel.
J. F.
Nice Saturday lunch in the garden. Good service, child friendly. We'll be back.

M. S.
Very children friendly, nice garden with play area. Good food and beer. Bar service can sometimes be a bit slow.
R. Y.
Nice gastropub for dinner with a decent sized outdoor area. Weekday lunches are very quiet with an abbreviated menu.

S. H.
A fantastic local pub, supportive to the community, always a warm welcome and a fantastic menu
A.
Nice Hotel great food and staff, great settings but the it's costing and lossing valuable time and money dispensing drinks due to layout.
D. F.

just returned from a Sunday lunch ,i booked the table for 3pm and we arrived to be sat next to a table of 8 with 4 babies ,there were other vacant tables but we were put next to the screaming babies and the door to the outside garden
the staff are very nice but also very busy ,no water offered ,had to ask for menus, just felt that we had come at the end of rush hour
asked to be moved ,in the end they locked the door to stop people from continually disturbing our meal
food is ok ,not great
if you want to go there with your little ones this is the venue for you, dont get me wrong i have 2 kids myself ,and i feel if you go out to a public space ,respect other diners
never to return !
