Beautiful heritage pub with a really impressive bar. Quiet and peaceful during the day too. Lovely big windows and sone intetesting mirrors hidden at the back. Good choice of drinks as well.

Very friendly staff, great selection of beer, and the snack menu was ace. Decent prices considering where it is. Not too busy when I arrived 3pm ish, but was starting to fill up around half four. Recommend this place if you are in the area, not too far from Chalk Farm or Belsize Park for the tube, although technically Hampstead.

Honestly wish I could give 4.5 stars, but I'm rounding up rather than down. The staff here are very friendly, although it did seem like it was slightly confused as to who was doing what. There weren't any food menus on the table, and some of the tables were a bit close together. However, the pub is great. Good beer selection, good spirits selection. Drinks prices about par for this area of London. My friend had a fish and chips that looked great, and it was nice at this time of year to be greeted by the smell of mulled wine on the way in. Very clean pub with a lovely interior and informal atmosphere. Drinks come out quite slowly, but in this sort of environment it oddly makes it better. Definitely a place to hunker down, take your time and sit in one of their nice dark corners.

It was a pleasant environment, I went there just to spend some time out of the house and had a great reception by the long haired guy , I believe he’s name is Steve, and was also served by a beautiful and lovely young woman , Jenifer. Food was amazing and and like I said reception and environment was truly spectacular.

Looking for somewhere to go for Lunch while in the area we saw that this had good reviews on Trip Advisor, so decided to try it. Very pleased that we did! Excellent service, the barman/waiter even specifically asked if we had any allergies! Good selection of beers and wines and a great menu. which we perused whilst waiting for our drinks. The food arrived promptly and was very fresh, tasty and good quality. The Trip Advisor reviews were spot on and I would totally recommend this venue if your in the area.

I really want to love this pub. The interior is beautiful, the staff are fine and have adapted well to Covid. Sadly the drink and food don’t quite match. The Sunday lunch is okay, but far from great, we couldn’t cut through the potatoes. Real failing for me is the beer. Used to be decent, but now is a fairly woeful selection.

Very pleased to see this pub open again after the lockdown. You have to book a table in advance now to get in on a weekend but it's worth the effort. As always - great food and staff, good atmosphere. A very friendly and chatty landlady showed us the secret that this old pub has - a secret door and hidden space that could be hired for a private party - very unusual! Will definitely come again.

It’s a decent pub. Not flash, not special, but the food is good enough and they serve drinks you’d normally find in an English pub. Good for watching the World Cup. Good for families on the weekend. I seem to remember taking our dog one time. A very good amenity to have at the end of your road.

It is a comfortable place where you can go to drink/eat something. It's a typical british pub. There are many kinds of beer. There are great dishes to taste. We ate fish and chips and a chicken pie pot. Both of them delicious. There are also good desserts. We think the price is correct. We paid around 45 pounds for everything for two people. We recommend that place. We want to return soon.

Came in for drinks with friends for my birthday. We had some small plates to share, calamari was delicious. Very good service from the bar staff, who were friendly and very accommodating. We were sat outside enjoying the sun but when I asked if I could reserve a table for later, the bartender did this for us no problem. Thanks ☺️ also, they have board games!

Our favourite pub in Belsize Park! We were so thrilled when this opened back up last week and made a booking immediately! The covid safety measures are very reasonable (hand sani at the door, spaced out tables, table service etc.) and we felt very safe and taken care of. The staff is as lovely as ever and they are super accommodating with kids and babies. Love the fish and chips (or the nourish bowl when trying to be a bit healthier!). So happy this has reopened!

We went for food on Sunday afternoon, they got our order wrong but couldn't have been more apologetic and gave us a drink in the house. So rare to find customer service this good in a London pub. Stopped in for dinner with the family last week.Turns out it was the first day of a new menu launch. I'm not sure what the menu had been before this but I'll highly recommend the meat free menu. l would be returning and i highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you so much for everything you did This is a lovely pub with great people who run it. Perfect for just drinks, a meal or for a function. We visited the pub on three occasions during February for food, drinks and to sadly book the function room for a Wake, from the minute we enquired about the booking until the end of the function we were treated with kindness by Antonia, Eric and the whole bar team and nothing was too much trouble. After initially requesting to book an area, Antonia suggested that the function room downstairs would be a more private option for what we needed our function to be. Martha’s bar is beautiful for any function and Antonia arranged for fresh flowers to be put downstairs that day, a touch that was lovely. We ordered platters of Sandwiches for the function which were lovely and fresh. All of our guests said how lovely the pub is and many of our friends said they would come back. I cannot thank the staff enough for everything they did, they are just lovely. We plan to return very soon to have a Sunday Roast as they look amazing.

My wife and I were just reminiscing about our trip from the U.S. to London last year and I thought of this restaurant. We stayed at an Air BnB around the corner from this place for a week during April 2019 and we ate here 3 times during that time. Easily the best fried fish I’ve ever had. I love fish and chips but the grease from the breading usually upsets my stomach afterward — this place’s fish didn’t do that at all. If/when we make our way back to London, we’ll be going back here for sure, even if we have to go out of our way to do so.

Love this place. A proper local with lovely staff and a great function room. We came a while ago to a party downstairs and have been back regularly since. Good selection of craft beers and lovely gins for my missus. The landlady dealt brilliantly with some builders who’s language got a bit colourful too. Will be back soon!

Very enjoyable experience of the Washington, went there with friends to try out their quiz, we'll be back! (We came a decent third 😃) What I liked most about it was the general vibe, it was friendly, warm, had a noticeboard in the corner with community announcements as well as their own publicity, all of which looked interesting and inviting. Like, even their cricket team (established 1973) tickled my fancy, and I don't do cricket!!! I ate a very nice meal as well, a half a southern fried chicken, served with chips and coleslaw, very tasty and a reasonable £12.50. I brought the bones home for the dogs... Win-win...

Saturday evening - dinner and drinks was really lovely. Jenny served us at the table - she was welcoming, helpful and efficient. The food was lovely - the sharing platter was huge and the mains (chicken pie with root veg and mash and tuna with mediterranean veg) were tasty and wholesome - proper gastro pub grub! I've lived in the area for many years and rarely visit The Washington as in the past I have found the staff a bit gruff - not anymore. Please keep it this way and I'll visit much more often :)

My local pub, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is solid pub-grub, and they've a wide selection of beers. The Six Nations matches are shown here, and they have high chairs for toddlers. If you're coming on a weekend or for a specific match I suggest making a booking.

The 'hidden bar' really is hidden behind a heavy bookshelf door. Downstairs is a bit sweaty, and there seemed to be a leak dripping from the toilets above!? The bar is fine on both floors, but on the night I last visited, the staff seemed a bit down. Overall, not a bad place, but there are more interesting places nearby.

Great typical pub. Food is not anything special, but atmosphere is good. No carpet dawning is beer, hence there is not nasty smell. Main thing is - it has a secret bar, behind a bookcase. How cool is that?!!?

*Edit: only just seen owner's response - fantastic, thank you for the acknowledgement!* This is one of those delightful old Victorian pubs which makes me proud to be a Londoner. The interior is beautiful, with many original fittings, and the pub has an atmosphere to it despite the modern-day actualities of no smoking being banned and always a shrieking toddler. I tried the fish & chips, and it was very good indeed; the sort of version you'd be pleased to see a visitor eat, one who wished to try the 'classic' dish. Not necessarily perfect; I'm not sure those were triple-cooked chips, as proclaimed on the menu, and a bit of mint and / or seasoning in the mushy peas might have elevated them, not that they weren't enjoyable in simple form. Little side salad was dressed, and the seafood linguine was apparently "delicious"; quite subtle, letting the prawns and squid drive the dish, these being delicately cooked. Bonus points must be awarded for piping-hot plates; this is so unusual to find, yet to me it's so important. I want to savour my food and not rush to eat it because it's going cold. Dessert; sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, utterly indulgent, very homely, with density to the sponge which is how it should be. Lovely! Staff were happy and friendly, and my thoughts afterwards were that I ought to visit more often. Simply, a great pub!

Good pub with nice food quite close by the northern entrances to primrose hill park. It seems very popular very busy on Sunday lunchtimes. No outdoor seating though and they are quite strict about people not drinking or smokingg outside on the street.

This is quite a nice pub. Very traditional at street level, with sports on for the ones that cannot live without. They have an hidden room for parties downstairs which s extremely good. They provide finger food too which is convenient.

Had my friend's hen do in Martha's Bar which is playfully hidden behind a bookshelf door and downstairs in the basement. It's a lovely space which left all the guests pleasantly surprised and it was perfect for our few hours of fun. I attended the Washington for New Year’s Eve 2018. The staff are lovely, the pub is in a fantastic location; however, the DJ was awful! The DJ was drunk and would constantly skip songs, pause songs, speak over songs, scratch songs and generally ruin every possible enjoyable moment. The pub is great for normal drinks, but if you want to go for a nice event with music - maybe, just maybe check your options. Happy new year Washington!
