Reviews of The Wellington
K. W.
I like to review places that I can recommend to others and what I liked most about this place was the large outside area. I am a sicker for sitting outside and soaking up the local atmosphere. I'd give it a five but its reserved for excellence and the service was a bit slow but only because they were busy on a Saturday. I'm sure we can bump the rating up to a five next time I pop in for a pint.

The Wellington is a classic English pub with delicious food and generous pours served up with solicitous attention and British aplomb. Decorated in rich upholstery and dark woods, it has the atmosphere to complete a true pub experience. We started with halloumi fries and a delightful tomato tarte, and then had this savory steak & ale meat pie and wonderful bangers & mash served up in a yorkshire pudding surrounding.
O. W.
Brilliant atmosphere food and service close to Theatre area real oldie world pub
P. J.
Great place for making new friends. Plenty of atmosphere. My GO TO place in Theatre land.
Lots of lovely memories.

Fitted us in on News Year’s Day without a booking. Made a real effort to get our starving youngest his starter super quickly to avoid a melt down. Replaced a dropped knife instantly without us asking. Friendly, smiling and efficient service; food is simple fare done really well - home cooked food which came quickly. Nice menu - seems to specialise in pies and firm favourites. Thank you so much a lovely dinner to finish our stay in the capital.
L. M.
We had a wonderful experience here today and our little one was completely enamoured with the lovely landlady. Highly recommend for families. Thank you to all the lovely staff for making our boy feel like part of your family!

Booked a table in advance as going to see a show but sadly got held up in traffic. Phoned ahead and thankfully they kept our table for us. Service was quick and food was really lovely with all fresh veg.
Large portions so couldn't manage a dessert but they looked lovely as well. Will definitely return in the near future but it pays to book as it was very busy.
L. S.
Excellent bar service. She remembered all 8 orders and was friendly. The venue was busy but not too busy. Great for an after matinee drink.
M. S. H.
Great and quick service despite the fact that it was very busy!
The service was very friendly and the food was great!
Great if you're coming for dinner before a show!
J. G.
Great, fast service! Outstanding pie...its was crunchy with delicious flavour. My little girl enjoyed the chicken burger also.
M. M.
Lovely pub with great atmosphere. Good drinks selection and friendly staff. Great choice for meeting with friends.
H. A.
What a fabulous pub!! .... My sisters and I had a lovely drink, wonderful meal (thank you chef) and chilled outside watching the world go by. The landlady Natalie who we met was also lovely and all the staff were really friendly . Really interesting how long the pub has been there and still called The Wellington. I would definitely love to go back here. Thank you. Love the city of London. xxxxx
a. M.
Busy but friendly and efficient dining pre theatre snd excellent food at good price. Book a table at busy times
L. G.
Had a lovely meal here today, our waiter was brilliant and asked us if we would like to change seat between courses to get a better view of the sights, and allowed us to stay a little while longer as it was raining outside! Delicious food and excellent drinks too, aperol spritz was perfect!
D. K.
Actually went twice to this pub. First time just for pint then back the following day for a re-run and a meal. Certainly not cheap (when you live in the west country, London is extortionate) but got to say i was well impressed with the Ocean fish and chips and a well kept real ale selection.
A. S.
Very atmosphere place with delicious english cuisine and english beers and sidres.
R. D.
Good food in the first floor dining area. The young girl who served us was cheerful and helpful. The pub is full of character and original features. Definitely worth a visit.
J. R.
Called in for drink. Very busy, but no ques at bar. Very polite and friendly bar person was relaxed about us taking drinks outside despite not having a table.
She quickly told us when a table went free inside. Cleaned the table for us.
Didnt eat there but food looked delicious.
We nearly always pop in when in London
G. G.
Lovely old fashioned pub, stopped here on the way to theatre for some food. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was well presented, hot and tasty. Nice atmosphere, candles lit and the place was clean. Would definitely go back.
M. G.
The staff were very attentive and pleasant, the food was nice and reasonably priced, but by god were the drinks expensive! A small bottle of Coke was nearly £7, I know they have to make a profit, but am 800% mark up seems a bit excessive.
S. O. R.
Good food and nice people. The staff work incredibly hard but they are understaffed and I feel sorry for them.
I can't help thinking it's greedy owners not paying enough. Only an opinion though.
傅.
Perfect location. Have a nice meal before go to Lion king will be the most beautiful memory in London.
The salmon is a little bit over cooked but the other dishes are good. So as beer.
e. v.
Made a reservation before our evening showing of The Lion King and had a lovely view of the street below. Accidentally received the wrong order, but waitress was very understanding and changed my order right away. Overall great service and very accommodating menu with vegan and vegetarian options.
P. A.
A beautiful old London pub. My wife and I ate lunch here and it was very very good. We had the fried calamari and the smoked chicken liver pate as appetizers. My wife had fish and chips, and I had the steak pie. We both drank hard cider, of which they have a nice selection. Service was great and prices are very reasonable. Highest recommendation.
J. W.
Will be back down visiting this brilliant old pub in 2 weeks time!!!
Always had great times in this place over the years and have been in so many west end pubs who swap landlords/lady’s quicker than I can visit them!!!
Keep that Peroni nice and cold Nat.. cheers 🍻🍻
P. P.
Great atmosphere, Great Pies! 😋👍
D. S.
Good pub just if the main street with selection of drinks and a good atmosphere.
C. C.
Friendly service and a great range of beers. Also good food selection if you're hungry!
s. c.
Visited this pub on Thursday 30/9 for the first time with my 2 daughters
The welcome and professionalism from the Landlady was great - from serving beer and food to a great "warmth"
Alas i did not catch her name BUT she'll know who she is!
Steve from Stoke
H. S.
Excellent pub. Centrally located. Wonderful meat pie and fish and chips. Clean and quick service. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend. I will be back.
P. R.
Great westend pub usually very busy but when we went it was reasonably quiet good beer
J. S. (. S.
Nice pub if you and some friends are looking for a place to have a drink, got heaters outside if you want to stay warm too.
E. F.
Great place in nice area. Food is yummy and service is super friendly. There is a really good selection of beer. Evening's can get quite busy so arrive on time or expect a small wait.
N. G.
Great pub! Came in for a quick pint after work. After a stressful day such a warm welcome. Thanks all!
J.
Great service, great food, reasonably priced. It is a bit cramped inside but to be expected in London.
D. B.
Went on Sunday afternoon with my wife and 2 year old grandson. Asked for a table outside duly obliged.
Firstly the staff were so helpful and friendly ' nothing like the one just up the road.
We just had drinks and light bites which were very good, the football was on inside but duty called and I sat outside with the family. The place is immaculately clean inside and out but the thing that will bring you back here is the friendliness of all the people who work here 👍see you soon.
T. M.
Good food for the price. I have been to this place twice now for dinner. Good selection of drinks.
a. R.
A lovely place. People where great in there. I ate the famous English coffee and drank a beer. The branch was delicious, with some sweet beans ( for a Brazilian it was new), some cheese, eggs, tomatoes, potato, the English muffin ( which is a bread that is delicious), bacon, butter, and morcila ( I don't know how to say that in English ,😅. The place was clean and at night it was crowded, so it's very popular. It's near theatres, and in the very centre, great for having some fun.
B. R.
We stayed in London for the weekend ended up at the Wellington for lunch on our last day. Got to say friendly and helpful staff and the Sunday roast was amazing definitely be going back in the near future 😋
J. M. F.
Lovely interesting wood panels London boozer. Efficient service and a good stock of Beers
G. W.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming, there a great selection of beer... And check out the steak and ale pie!
N. H.
The Wellington. We had been walking round London for hours. And we saw the menu for pies and that was me sold. I had a really nice beef and ale pie with veg. There wasn't much meat but it was nice and juicy. We had a couple of drinks and I would go back again. As with most of the pubs in London very quirky especially the stairs to toilet 3 flights lol.
G. “. F. P.
Busy but quick! Stopped by for 1 Cider stayed for three. Cool place, lots of people enjoying an ale or two. Great place to meet new people and spark up conversation with cool outgoing people, from tourist to locals the Wellington is a place for everyone.
J. L. R.
Authentic London pub, with a great selection of beers and traditional cask ales. Especially the hoppy/bitter ales are recommended. Great atmosphere, and super friendly staff! Dining room upstairs, with typical “pub food” of decent quality.
G.
Beer was delicious, Christmas food menu was so overpriced it was a joke to even consider it.
It's part of a national pub group so if you've been to one, you've been to them all.
G. K.
Really great atmosphere in this pub! The drink selection is wide and varied with a great emphasis on craft breweries and distilleries. Whether you're there for a stop on a night out or a quick snack and drink as you explore the city, the Wellington has a lot to offer.
A. C.
Great food and beer. Service also great
D. H.
Beer is good .so is the food just mind the bench seats have seen better times
J. H.
Great little pub with a nice patio outside for drinking and people watching. Their menu had a good selection of alcohol and it was easy to order from using the app. Although, because of the WiFi and internet connection in that area, I've been charged twice for the same round of drinks and would like to discuss this.
**EDIT: After this post, George was fantastic at reaching out and refunded me the money the next day. Thanks so much and much appreciated!!
R. G.
Nice pub with a good selection of real ales and very friendly bar staff.
H. K.

Proper british pub with great food. The venue is elegant on the inside and the terrace is set in a very nice area right next to the Lion King theatre.
M. P.
Traditional London pub, right next to the Lyceum Theatre (Currently showing "The Lion King"). Great nachos on sale here.
G. B.
Fabulous food and great service. Would definitely go back again.
s. k.
Meal was nice, and the wine was good. Ate before we went to our show.
E.
Best Roast dinner I have eaten in a long time the Yorkshire puddings were huge and delicious
T. K.
Ok for a quick drink.
Went to the toilet and mentioned there was a leak and the staff said someone was sorting it tomorrow. There would be a flood if they waited until the morning. Don't blame the bar staff, definitely the management that's neligent.
T. S.
Decent pub. Decent selection of beers and ales. Worth a shout if around the area.
K. S.
Nice friendly pub, great variety of fruity gins, £20 for 2 doubles with lemonade about right for London prices. We had a nice seat inside and could people watch nicely!
S. C.
Great food right next door to lion king
E. R.
Fine spot fir a cup of coffee or cold drinks. The seating area is quite vast and so are their food/ drink options. The staff are pretty friendly during almost all of my visits here
B. R.
Great food and service at this pub, perfect for a bite before a show

Fernado and all of the team at the Wellington, are amazing. Thanks so much for looking after us!
L. B.
Hi guys. The only thing missing was We were going to eat but when we asked for a gluten free option we were told there wasn't one. We therefore had drinks only and then went on to find somewhere else to eat.
d. o. t.

Our fav pub to meet our friends before Xmas Market 🎄
L. J.
I love xmas decorations!! Nuce range of drinks especially gins! I had fishcakes that were really nice big shout out to Fabio and Fernando, they were really charming, like a dynamic dual, they work really well together ! Thank you so much for making my time special
R. G.
Large traditional bar with good selection of beers and drinks.
S. P.
The food was delicious and the it felt very authentic overall. I had the old spot sausages and mashed potatoes, and I have to say that it was amazing! My friend had the steak and mushroom pie and she was very satisfied. The staff was hilarious and the service was great. I don’t know what else to ask for in a pub. Overall, I am very pleased with my visit here.
R. S.
Very nice little restaurant with a friendly staff and large delicious portions!
J. C.
Absolutely loves it here and will be returning next time we are in London. Seemed to get busy quick so we were glad we got a table. Ordered toad in the hole and turkey pie, with mac n cheese and chips as a side (very hungry). Just amazing. So nice. Cant wait to go again. Great atmosphere, location, drink selection too. Highly recommend
D. W.
Lovely pub with upstairs dining.. Will be back to try the trio of pies
K. R. C.
Delicious vegan hotpot (like a savory pie without the crust) is offered, along with a few other vegan options. It was delicious. It’s as charming as it sounds - dining room upstairs, pub downstairs. Proper Pub! Love the well-preserved interior and gorgeous exterior too.
M. N.
A fantastically traditional style establishment with super friendly staff who were very conscious of social distancing requirements.
They even sorted out our dog with a tub of water while we were enjoying our superbly scrumptious lunch.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A. M.
We really enjoyed the food and the restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly.
C. I.
The food is mostly deep fried. Nice location. The wine is fine too. Outside tables -- brilliant in warm weather. The staff is nice except the Polish bloke that moved there from the Coal hole. What a miserable git!
T. W.
Nice pub. Also takes cash #NoCovidBollox
Great selection of whiskies.
K. S.
Very friendly. Nice pub.
M. S.
Great pub with good range of beers
P. J. N.
Great friendly pub next to The Lyceum. Very pleasant to sit outside and watch the world go by.
M. T.
A vibrant, traditional pub with all the checkpoints of what to expect from a pub described with the word “traditional” - narrow, cosy, wood-panelled. The drink spread is varied and I tried some delicious gin I’d never had before which is both exciting and unusual for me. We visited after a show at the Lyceum Theatre which is a stone’s throw away, and it was bustling with patrons spilling out onto the Strand.
J. D.
Excellent food and friendly staff.
S. G.
Visited for lunch for my mother's 70th birthday. They had reserved the best table for us, with a view, glass of prosecco, and brought a little cake with a candle at the end of our meal! Food was just lovely!! Highly recommend their award winning steak and ale pie, just yummy!! The waiter was very attentive and friendly. Would certainly visit again
J. D.
A bit pricey, but good service and a good range of beers
A. B.
Traved from Manchester for the fright fest, in Leicester Square. Stopped by and had a very friendly welcoming
J. F.
Great afternoon tea in a nice pub. The waiter was fantastic. Thank you so much.
O. S.
Christmas Lunch 2019 - 20 people. Team did a really great job with service and the food didn’t feel like it had been created for the masses. They had created place settings for us which was a nice touch - great value, just could have done with more space at the bar.
M. L.
The Wellington was amazing from start to finish. The drinks were cold and fresh, food hot and tasty, and the staff were very friendly. Thank you I’ll be sure to visit again.
N. P.
Nice pub with friendly staff. Disappointed that we were told mixed grill off the menu to then watch it being served to the table next to us just as we were getting ready to leave. The waitress told us that the order for the ingredients had not arrived when she crossed it off the menu. Now wonder if it was a temporary thing as they were very busy. Also be aware that dispite the menu stating there is a 10% discretionary service charge they added 20% to the bill. Food was nice but wouldn't go back.
D. R.
Great food, great atmosphere and great staff. Always come to The Wellington every time when in London.
A. T.
Cosy pub with friendly staff!
s. b.
Nice little English pub. Friendly service, good range of beers, good food.
S. B.
Decent pub around Covent garden just a bit small inside but that's not a problem 😊😊
J. X.
Best pub for people gazing due to its location.
E. W.
Excellent Sunday lunch, great service.
M. L.
Slightly dismissive staff, but a delicious burger.
L. F.
Nice ale and good outdoor seating. Nice place to watch the world go by
D. W.
Nice pub, friendly staff 👌
G. N.
Great little people watching spot on the Strand and a nice pint of Camden Hells
C. C.
Friendly london pub and lovely atmosphere
S. B.
Nice atmosphere and staff food was OK the sausages were a bit overcooked and were not very well flavoured to counteract the burnt skin on the sausages
A. B.
Came to London today to see a show! Have eaten in this pub before and have always rnenjoyed it. There was 7 of us today and we're seated and served promptly! Service was excellent. The food as always was lovely! Only downside was the 15% surcharge added to the bill. We said we weren't happy about this and they removed it. We always leave a tip but would rather choose our own amount! However I would definitely be using this pub again when I come to London in January!
L. C.
The staff went above and beyond to make us happy. We were here for the hen do of a friend, and as soon as the staff realised that she was "the bride to be" they offered her a glass of Prosecco. The food was excellent, and the service was fast and efficient. We were a mixed group, and the staff was extra patient with first-time-in-the-UK eaters, who were really undecided on what to order. The decor of the dining room is also really nice, and makes up for a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend booking, especially if you are a group: We had booked in advance, and we would not have found a seat otherwise.
B. K.
Great Staff, beautiful pints
S. D.
Just love it...favourite pub in the world. Just chill and watch London pass by 🙂
A. R.
Nice place staff nice prices what you expect london
M. M.
Great food, Great friendly and polite staff.
T. N.
Had a drink there, nice place (they also serve food) watched the world go by. Friendly staff
T. J.
This a typical London pub situated near Covent Garden in the 💓 of theatre land. There is limited wheel chair access and the restaurant section is upstairs. Should you use restaurant be aware that the toilets are up another set of steep stairs. That said the ambulance is good and so is the food. They specialise in pies and the puddings are excellent. The prices are good and the place is recommended.
J. F.
Really nice old school London pub. Went on a Saturday afternoon in mid November. Quick service considering how busy it was, which was impressive. I tried their own brew of orange and clove gin (I think it was) but tbh it was horrid and I found it undrinkable. Lots of choice available though, I just thought I'd try something different.
m. m.
Very nice traditional pub...
M. L.
Lovely London pub. Seemed expensive to me but I'm not from London so...
Cheerful, helpful staff.
M. S.
Member of staff in the bar expected my disabled friend to move out of her way because she was balancing plates on her arms. Staff in the restaurant were friendly but sadly lots of items were unavailable and the food we had was average at best, the batter on the fish was very greasy, the steak in pie was grisly while the vegetables were rather bland.
J. O.
Gorgeous interior, great location, quality pub food and attentive service. It is the quintessential London pub that conjures up images of days long past, great for tourists like us from the other side of the pond. Loved the Shropshire glazed chicken roast (we went on Sunday). Excellent selection of beers.
J. F. R.
I visited The Wellington on the Strand in London recently and it was a most enjoyable experience.
It is a nice traditional British pub with an interior wooden decor.
The service from the staff was quick and efficient.
The Wellington on the Strand in London has a good range of drinks and it sells Timothy Taylor's Landlord ale on draught which I had a pint of and it was of top quality.
The Wellington on the Strand in London is handy if you are staying at The Strand Palace Hotel or the Savoy Hotel in London.
I would recommend a visit to the The Wellington on the Strand in London.
E. S.
Stopped in for a drink stayed for a late lunch
Yum!!!
A. S.
Would give 3.5 stars if that was an option. This is a really place to eat and drink in a great location. The pub has lovely decor and the outside area is really nice to watch the world go by.
We ordered different breakfasts. The Nicholsons breakfast was really good value. Especially when ordering 2. Food was well cooked and good quality. The issues we had was that the wait for the food was a bit long and came out luke warm/cold. Also some of the hot drinks were only half filled.
The staff were friendly and cleared plates away quickly.
Would recommend going and hopefully can give more stars when we go back because this is a nice place.
R. S.
Great atmosphere nice Pub
A. F.
Good spot to stop and grab a drink or some food. Lots of work going on at the moment which slightly spoiled the view.
B. W.
Great Gluten & DAIRY free options at Great prices ! Our waiter was Jose and he totally made the meal so much better! Drinks are also great w/ very reasonable prices (being from California). Everything cooked well and pacing was perfect (never felt rushed or ignored).
Thank you!
E. S.
A fine pub, good food, nice service, in short a fine place to be!
S. C.
Usual friendly staff, lovely interior and good food menu selection. I fancied trying a pint of London Pride, but it was off, so opted for Wainwright which was good. My wife visited the loo, but unfortunately there was no loo roll nor soap. Mentioned it to staff who promised to sort it.
D. P. L.
Sat outside and ordered a pint of the app, quick service and excellent staff.
R. K.
A nice pub with prices to match the area (if London prices still surprise you then this will be no different).
The food selection was nice, and the pies very nice. Be warned though, the kitchen closes at 10pm despite the bar being open longer so get in quickly if you're there after a show.
The only off-point for me were the downstairs mens toilets, they were in need of a renovation but the rest of the pub was very nice and modern.
k. r.
Friendly little pub good collection of ales
J. L.
Called in on Sunday 10/2. Despite advertising the rugby England v France the staff were very reluctant to respect customers’ wishes to switch on the tv. Had a relatively good lunch but disappointed that the staff were not more accommodating. Hence the pub began to empty pretty quickly!
A. F.
We came here for fish & chips and macaroni & cheese. They did not disappoint on the food. It was very yummy. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they have big portions but don't offer take away boxes. They claimed this is a health and safety issue but I'm not sure about that.

Friendly staff and great food!
M. D.
A perfect place where you can drink something and have some good snacks from the bar. Everything was delicious. I would recommend everyone the nachos. The best ones I ever had.
I will definitely come back and recommend to everyone.
M. L.
We loved it thank you,
M. S.
Excellent beer food great very friendly people.
S. N.
A nice place for an evening beer. Getting in and out can be hazardous however, as the pub is on a steep hill, with a two-way cycle lane right outside. Cyclists going up the hill do not want to stop pedalling to let you past as they lose momentum, the ones coming down the hill travel very quickly.
C.
Sunday roast!
R. S.
For a pub this close to the Lyceum its not at all crowded. I've been here a few times during the summer and having a large outdoor space helps. Friendly staff and a great range of draft beer and cider makes this a great spot for a couple after work.
R. H.
Lovely traditional pub looking as fabulous as it always has, with edwardian ceilings and a great to see marble exterior. The food has never disappointed and the drinks are kept very well. With a very nice vibe and atmosphere throughout the day no matter your time of visit, simply a must if in the area or visiting london
J.
Great location, nice outdoor seating and a vibrant atmosphere
M.
Ok Nicholson's pub, decent selection of beers, music isn't too loud and there's an outside area
J. T.
Very Good all round. Had reserved a table for 6.00pm but in the event arrived at 5.00pm but still the table was ready for us. Staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive and we finally opted for the excellent Fish & Chips from a menu that left you thinking "What do I have with so many choices". It came quickly and was both piping hot and plentiful - very good value.
If you are going to an evening theatre performance I would recommend that you pre-book a table, don't just turn up and expect to get one as this pub gets very busy and you could well end up disappointed.
R. F.
Lovely pub, staff very friendly
J. D.
Stopped here just for 1 drink outside prior to last orders staff were polite and drinks were as ordered
G. E.
Quiet but it was early on a Wednesday. Friendly bar staff, nicely kept ale.
B. c.
Quick service and friendly polite staff, food a bit disappointing.
W. J.
really old pub with atmosphere, not many left
R. R.
Very kind staff. Me and my friend had the best fish 'n chips and calamari ever. Even better in combination with a Maisel's Weisse beer. Thanks to the great service, food and atmosphere, we had a great last night in London.
J. G.
Full of transient theatre goers at those certain times, can be quite manic. Good variety of beers and lagers on offer. Lots of outside seating. Food not that great, zapped chain restaurant quality at best. Reasonable selection of dishes for most tastes. My fave seat is just inside the right hand door in the right, a couple of high booths. Love it.
J. A.
Small pub located on the Strand opposite the end of Waterloo Bridge. The dining room upstairs is small and tables very close together; early reservation recommended. Typical pub food is on offer and is quite good at reasonable prices.
C. D. M.
Lovely tasty food served by polite very friendly staff.
I highly recommend this fine restaurant, and it`s equally fine pub, which provides excellent food, ale, and service.
Thank you for an extremely pleasant evening in your exquisite establishment.
I`ll definitely come here again!!!!
S. b.
Absolutely delicious food! Came across this place by chance but very glad we did. Their Sunday roast and pies were really good, very pleasant atmosphere. Would gladly go there again.
E. B.
A great spot in the middle of London. Was a great, historic pub with a great vibe. Had a fantastic meal, which happened to be the roast of the day (chicken). Sorry, I forgot to take a picture before the meal, so this will have to do.
D. L.
Small classic looking pub at the north of Waterloo Bridge has an out-front table/standing area perfect for a few drinks in the sun. Not eaten here myself but the food looks good when checking out other people’s orders! Bar snacks menu reads decent too! I use this pub to meet the wife or friends before heading elsewhere. The area outside is busy with cyclists, cars and buses and is good if you like people watching!
D. D.
Had the steak and ale pie which was great, and the sticky toffee pudding which was even better. Lovely food and friendly staff.
B. L.
Great place for a pint with a good selection, including cask ales. The food in the bar was great, I wish we had time to try the restaurant upstairs. Definitely recommend a stop here.
C. N.
We got a spot straight way considering how fully booked they were. They managed to accommodate us
P. B.
Good place to drink and eating and friends pub.
D. T.
An absolute safe choice for great pub fare and drinks, if you can get in. It's full for good reason. Hangout for generations of Deans of Kings College. Just tell the doorman you need a table for the Dean, chances are they'll lead you right to it on the second floor. Say thank you with a generous tip.
A. L.
We didn't book but we were able to wait in the pub area before dining space was freed up for the five of us to have dinner on a very busy Sat night. The standard is that of a gastropub. The ambience, warm and just lovely. I love the location of this pub, it's got an adult/family feel (no kids is what I meant) and friendly despite being in what is essentially a very touristic location. The dining room also has fantastic views of the Southbank. Make sure you have dinner around sunset!
G. R.
The service is a little off and the prices are on the higher side of life. But it's a good place for a few drinks with a group of friends. Worth trying but not my go-to pub in London
M. D.
Loved this preserved Edwardian pub! My family and I dined upstairs which is a little more formal than the downstairs bar area. Tried the specialty British Pie (vegan) and it was phenomenal!
S. C.
Gorgeous food, great staff ! Cosy and a real pub atmosphere, we loved it!xx
R. L.
I had a lovely time but the music it was really loud, and the staff are very welcoming.
M. S.
standard typical British pub with average prices for drinks but very crowded due to it's location. Beer and food selection is decent for a pub but nothing really special. It has a dining place upstairs. I would rather avoid it as it's very crowded. This happens not because it's amazing but only due to it's location
L. W.
A great experience definitely go again
R. U.
One of the favourites in London. Good variety of drinks and bar food. Love the fact that they have outdoor seating in the center of London. You get absolutely stunning views of the strand and the waterloo bridge. A great place for people watching.
J. T.
Right next to the Lion king, great people watching on the corner of Waterloo bridge and Strand. Staff are the best, helpful friendly and work like a well oiled machine. Would absolutely recommend though at times it can be hard to find a seat.
A.
Great public with great food and the only problem was it was a little bit overpriced but that was OK because it was phenomenal as well is good stuff and good food. I also suggest the big bus to or if you’re going anywhere in England as a tourist. the staff tells you Good places to eat and the live white one is very good.
m. g.
Fantastic time yesterday. Jan and I had 'done' the Gt War exhibition at the National Portrait and then - like a couple of tourists - explored Buckingham Street and then the Queen's Savoy Chapel, and on to a late lunch in the bar of The Wellington.
Brilliantly looked after as always by Esther and the gang. The food was great, the wine superb. Thanks as always. Jan and Margaret
A. D.
My wife and I stopped off here during a big bus tour. Food was lovely and staff were friendly but there are a lot of tables in a very small place so expect to be bumped into several times during your meal as people walk by.
S. F.
Good service, nice food well cooked
K. M.
Great food not expensive
J. L.
Had a few drinks here after leaving the theatre, lively and fun pub. Locals were welcoming. Came back the morning after to try the 2 for £12 English breakfast, well worth it
t. g.
Lovely place
Staff was friendly 🙂
M. R.
Good food and an excellent selection of real ales
S. D.
Very busy due to theatre shows but also very professional staff that coped very well. Will be back later before I take in a show myself. 🙂👍
J. F.
Nice inside and outside area watching the world and buses go by...looking along Waterloo Bridge. Pleasant on hot sunny day sat out with chairs and tables. Fullers Brewery pub with selections of their great ale.
M. C.
Friendly staff lovely food. X
P. B. K.
The atmosphere was just right, a good buzz but not too loud. My party of 6 had various dishes from steak to fish & chips to the salmon. All were delicious & served fairly promptly considering it was the last Sunday before Christmas. The decor was just right, traditional british wooden bar tops, floors & sparkling mirrors. The price for the drinks & quality food for 6 was so reasonable compared to what I've experienced in trendier areas that it put them to shame. The staff were excellent, friendly, quick & attentive. Well done Wellington we enjoyed our reunion anyway but the experience was the icing on the cake! Definitely recommend it. The toilets are either up 2 floors from 1st floor dining room or from the ground floor down a set of steps. They are rather snug so beware.
M. H.
Had a breakfast here, which was delightful! Just the right amount for a full english and all well cooked. And, at time of writing there is a great value two for 12 quid deal on. What more can you ask for!
p. d.
Great little pub!!
c. c.
Nice beer nice ambience
S. A.
My Wife and I ate here Fri 29th for our evening Meal before going to see the Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre just a few yards up from this Fantastic Pub. The Staff Food and atmosphere are excellent extremely great value for money and very decent portion size I can personally recommend the Chicken Chorizo Pie and my Wife highly recommends the Nicholson Burger. So next time you are in the Strand you must eat here. Brilliant Pub excellent food fantastic Staff
Y. E.
Me and my son popped by for some food at your restaurant the other day. We were very happy with the food as well as the service as it was remarkable. The girl who served us, i think her name was Keysi, was really nice and welcoming. She also reccommended us some more places to visit as it was our first time in London. Definetely coming back with the whole family next time!!
D. H.
Great food great service. Amazing company happy to visit again
B. P.
A simply great place to have a little drink and people watch.
C. H.
Great service lovely food. Cheerful staff!!! Near the theatre's so no rushing. Well worth a visit!!! Will go again next time we go to London to see a show!!
L. S.
Delicious! Need i say more - You will thank your lucky stars you stopped in, lovely Pate` and local pies were nice make sure you try the Old Mout Cider!
k. w.
Located at the busiest and iconic street of London, Strands this place is a real heritage place.
It's location makes it even more lucrative.. The sit out section to drink is very spacious and people prefer drinking outside.
It's a heritage building wich gives you a feel of Victorian Era.
Dress code is no lt mandatory but if you are in a dress code, you feel like you are teleported to Victorian Era and drinking a beer.
This place usually serves great variety of beer and craft beer.
They also serve wine, gin, whiskey, Vodka and other liquors.
The beer is usually preferred by most of the visitors.
Highly recommended
G. B.
Great beer plenty of space. Good service
J. A.
Small pub located at 351 Strand directly opposite the end of Waterloo Bridge and before the road veers left around Aldwych. The dining room is upstairs and is quite small, with tables very close together; three of us at a table 2 foot square (or 60cms x 60cms) was unmanageable. However, the food was quite good and reasonably priced.
T. S.
Good service and nice food. Ideal for people watching
V. S.
Lovely pub in a busy area. Great selection of drinks and beers on tap. Visit this place fairly often
B.
Nice atmospheric little pub. Prices edging into the expensive territory. Severe lack of seating which is probably why I always notice a lot of people stood outside with their drinks.
P. S.
Great selection of lager and ales
S. L.
Ideal location, great food and drinks. Thank-you 😊
D. S.
Great pub just off strand, has outdoor seating, near Waldorf hotel & Savoy hotel,
Drinks reasonably for area 👍
S. S.
Good range of real ale on tap plus bottles, as well as good value pub grub. Staff friendly and reasonably efficient, although a request for a pink gin caused some confusion!
G. L.
Super friendly staff and the price is fair
T. J. R.
Ok place, good food and some great beers.
K. S.
Fab food and great staff
I. C.
To have the fish & chips here first nite in London a family tradition. Will see you on Nov 13 (my birthday). Love those mushy peas!
d. W.
This old pub smelt like a pub should it hasn't been made to look like it is it's the real thing so if you are visiting London from a far a way country go in have a pint and try the food. This will make your trip because if you are travelling join the locals as this is why you go to other countries.
N. A.
Lovely restaurant with the by far and away-best fish 'n' chips that I have ever tasted. Absolutely amazing dish! Kudos! Beyond satisfied!
G. M.
Friendly staff and good food well priced for the West end. Caters well for theatre goers. Under a new manager who works behind the bar as well. She just doesn't stop.
B. O.
With seven well-kept ales usually on, the Wellington often features in our London crawls. Indeed on more than one occasion we've stayed all evening and worked our way along the pumps. Never actually eaten here so can't comment although the menu doesn't look that spectacular. Well above average.
R. P.
A lovely busy pub situated by the several theaters lot of outside seating area and also had upstairs seating and restaurant prices good and selection of ales and other drinks
J. Y.
love this place it holds a special place in my heart
my parents worked there i lived there when i was two
i have been using the restaurant for lots of years

Natalie who manages the establishment always makes time to chat
and makes us feel so welcome it just like being with family the staff also
could not do enough for us

S. H.
Good to eat and drink there. Make sure you go there during happy hours fromm 3 pm to 6 pm. Atmosphere is great and you have possibility to seat outside
R. C.
One of my favourite places in the city. Great variety of food and tasty draft beer! Good service! Prices are a bit high but it's worth every penny you spend here.
K. S.
Lovely little pub
G. B.
Nice pub, good beers. Nice staff. A little hectic at times
P. H.
Great to be out in a good old pub
A. M.
Although a well presented very atmospheric pub, the music was a bit louder than expected which killed the conversation amongst our group, leading us to move on to a quieter destination after our first round.
S. G.
Nice British bar, pleasant music, decent prices.
V. P.
I was only here for 1 drink but the staff were nice and friendly & they had a decent selection of drinks. I'd go back to try the tasty looking food.
D. L.
Good beer and bar food. Friendly staff.
C. S.
Very nice pub in central london. Staff very polite but very incompetent about spirits..they didn't know what it was a Sambuca or absolutely any knowledge about whiskey.
B.
This is a very busy pub as it's next door to the lyseum theatre witch is showing the lion king but the staff are friendly and helpful plenty table's and chairs oùtside restaurant up stairs great atmosphere pop in and it is well worth the 5stars
A. P.
Good chain pub. Desserts are delicious and has a really good Mac and cheese. Drinks are not that expensive and it has a happy hour. Definitely recomendable
S. W.
A really nice local pub with good atmosphere, except the usual crazy London pub prices, e.g. £8:20 for a glass of house wine.
J. T.
Food good Staff friendly and helpful. Service quick if coming or going to a theatre. Which are very close to quite a few.
L. M.
Great pub, the manager was really nice and friendly too, would like a little more food for people with celiac disease please
q. 6.
Ha d a very lovely piece of fish and fish cakes.. both were excellent and the service and 1 way system worked great..

S. H.
Nice pub in good position
They have a large outside seating area
Bar on ground floor is nice and fairly large
They serve a good selection of food and drink
The toilets are down a steep flight of stairs in the basement and didn't see any disabled toilets available so if have problem with stairs then you may think twice about this venue
They have a first floor restaurant and although have not tries this the food looks good and reasonably priced
Again didn't see any disabled access to upstairs restaurant
Bar staff friendly and efficient
D. B.
It's ok.
M. C.
Very nice place, very pleasant service, meals are very good, well presented but a little bit expensive.

K. C.
Fabulous roast dinner !
E. B.
Served by the best and most helpful host George!
a. a.
Been here several times, the food & drinks selection is pretty good. And the staff ate always friendly.
S. P.
Good venue, good ales and very good food, bar staff seemed a bit stressed as the pub was quite busy when the nearby theatres came out. But otherwise very good.
D. N.
Nicholsons pub, so good range of ales on handpump. In a very busy spot on The Strand at Waterloo Bridge. Two floors, lots of food. Pleasant service. Probably very busy at peak early evenings. £4 a pint for own brand ale, which, I think, is rebranded Tribute. Just fine for one, not a place to spend much time.
C. S.
Great place to eat, nice menu, cool upstairs, good views, fairly quick service, excellent for the Lion King, attentive welcoming staff, reasonably priced, good menu. What more could you want?
S. S.
The day was great so we had the option of sitting outside which was great. The beer was also good with reasonable prices. Your typical pub.

Great Afternoon-Tea..... Nice Staff.... Authentic pub..... Reasonable prices.... We had a good time and would always visit again
S. N.
Got the hunters chicken and it was very tasty, if I was to be critical the meal was a bit small for the £13. Staff were lovely
A. D.
Great views if you're lucky enough to get a table outside - regards of the weather.
Good beer selection too.
J. C.

G. W.
Had the Venison and Slo Gin Pie and a side of mac and Cheese. The Meal was OK, not something I feel I need to go back for. Prices were reasonable.

Food wise ... I had better pub food.
T. H.
Generally good pub, with a good selection of ales that are changed regularly. Very touristy and busy. Food is average pub grub, and central London prices.
L. J.
Lunch before a show. Food was excellent and service was friendly and efficient. Popped in for a quick drink after the show and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Nice little pub 👍
S. P.
Lovely traditional old building. Nice dining upstairs. Packed downstairs and a bit aggressive clearing the outside area at 10:30pm.
L. B.
Not overly impressed. Salmon with just new potatoes and sauce isn't my idea of a complete meal. No veg included.
T. M.
Chilled English pub with good selection of draught beers lagers, pale ales, gins. Was too full to try out the 13 quid pie.
A. S.
