Reviews of The White Bear
T. C.
Visited on Xmas day 21 with my so who lives across the road from this delightful Pub / restaurant/ theatre. We secured great seats next to a raging wood fire, although not dining there they were providing Xmas meals and it was buzzing at 13.00. Thoroughly enjoyed our drinks in a splendid old world surrounding.
C. B. K.
After theatre, enjoyed a lovely dinner and drink.
I had the vegan barley risotto - delicious but so filling that I couldn’t quite finish it.
Would definitely return to try other dishes!
Loved the old living room feeling with the odd bits on display.
The staff were really great, friendly.
Shame about the weather. Hope to venture in the beautiful garden next time.

I visited The White Bear yesterday with my friend for her birthday. What a lovely place, very comfortable, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Great to visit a pub that is not a chain and has its own individual personality. The food was amazing, especially the sausage sandwich and macaroni cheese! The prices were very
reasonable. I will definitely be back
I hope locals support this business through these difficult times.
A. A.
Much bigger inside than expected. Had a vegetarian option roast dinner with a beetroot, freekeh, mushroom and spinach Wellington which I recommend and very much enjoyed. Be aware that dogs are welcomed in the restaurant.
C. N.
Great food! A really nice place to have lunch and only moment away from the tube. Thank you
H. C.
Great spot for a pint and good food. Mix with the locals and friendly staff whilst enjoying gorgeous food and appreciating the cool decor of the old theatre and memorabilia they have on display.
M. S.
Local pub with decent food, however the service is ALWAYS terrible. Have been several times and every time the service has been lacking in the restaurant. One meal forgotten, and slightly wrong order. More staff are needed.
N. H.
As a person who keeps their money un the community, spending here represents some of my most precious memories. Can't believe I've not reviewed this gem sooner. Maybe, selfishly wanting to keep it a secret l guess. Since moving further into Southwark, l visited just before the new year and everything, even the very helpful and friendly staff, clean surfaces are exactly as remembered.

Bit of a faff having to order through an app, but really nice place. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Will definitely come back here.
E. G.
Visited this place 05/10/2021, the experience was very good, nice workers with excellent customer service. Had food in the restaurant ordered the White Bear Burger with additional onion rings served fries, the presentation and the taste of the food was excellent, would go back there again.
Had a few drinks in the pub area, prices were reasonable. Would recommend going for night out and it's very local

Sunday lunch was just the ticket. Our first indoor meal for a couple of years and we were so glad we chose The White Bear. Great service (and no service charge added to the bill whether you got good service or not), great prices (both food and drink), comfortable, airy surroundings. Loved the other diners too 😃 - plenty of well behaved dogs and children. Recommend the Roast Angus rump with Yorkshire and the full panoply of veggies followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and ice-cream.
J. H.
A very good pub and the play was excellent. I noticed that some of the bad reviews are regarding the play and not the pub itself. Just a gentle suggestion. It would be helpful if the GMB profile made it clear that reviews about the play should be left somewhere else, not on this profile. Otherwise, a very good venue.
S. K.
The White Bear public house it's a Young's Pub with all the regular sort of beers that young's have in another venues food is extremely good if a little bit expensive I found the Sunday Roast was almost impossible to finish due to the amount that was put on the plate staff are very friendly small beer garden front of the pub which unfortunately is on Kennington Park Road however at the back of the pub there's a large garden which is very pleasant at the rear of the pub just before the garden there's a area that has glass on the Ceiling allowing Lashings of natural light into the venue overall very good experience can't wait for it to open again once lockdown has finished
J. F.
This place is amazing! The food is delicious and the service is great. Really cosy but a lovely garden in summer.
P. R.
Lovely outdoor area and plenty of space inside. The ability to use the Youngs on Tap app has been extremely useful and service was very speedy, even with a lot of customers around. The staff are happy, friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely be coming back!
A. W.
Okay so the pub is lovely and surprisingly big inside with a nice atmosphere and loads of space to sit. The bar staff were agency so not very knowledgeable but they were really lovely and friendly and I wouldn't fault them if I could and I wouldn't so shut up. However...I ordered my food and was pretty disappointed. A chicken escalope is £10. Literally, a chicken escalope and a blob of purple coleslaw is all you get. Ten quid? And it was burned and not freshly made as far as I could tell. I asked for my money back and they happily refunded me. I feel like London just charges what it wants knowing most people won't complain. It signifies a lack of respect for customers and leaves a bad taste in the mouth...like burned escalope. Nonetheless it's a great pub with a fab theatre upstairs. Do visit. Maybe just have the burger.
M. H.
I popped in for a drink with a friend, lovely garden, beautiful quaint decor, lovely, helpful friendly staff. Casual dress, it can get very crowded when the cricket is on at the nearby Oval.
Me and my friend loved it - I came back to meet my cousin there the following week.
Did I mention the wonderful, freshly prepared food?
H. W.
Good food, good selection on tap and a nice feel. Prices are respective of the area so no surprise their but well worth a visit
A.
Excellent service, very relaxed atmosphere and environment. Food is great, chicken and leak pie is amazing as is the Sunday Roast. Waiter is a cool guy and great at his job, been there for 5 years and it shows.
N. S.
A really great pub, restaurant and theatre. Along with the Dog House it's my favourite pub in the area.
C. G.
The food and service is very good. Easy to find located on the bus routes from the Elephant and Castle, Brixton, Clapham, and by tube from Kennington, or the Oval.
T. B.
The White Bar is a two minute walk from Kennington tube station and just around the corner City & Guilds of London Art School. Its a simply gorgeous English pub, with a great selection of beers and a table service restaurant towards the back. There is even a Theatre upstairs with a sixty seat capacity, shows are almost every night. A White Bear pub had stood on the site since 1780, although I suspect this one's somewhat newer. I didn't eat, but would recommend The White Bear simply for its beauty. Oddly, the 5ft cast iron beer in the bar is black (just give me a shout Young's, I would love to give that beer a warming coat of smooth hammerite). Fanstatic Pub.
R. A. B.
Nice pub with a big restaurant area towards the back, a garden and a theatre upstairs - lots to enjoy. Wish they had more cider options but that's London really.
H. R.
Nicely presented pub that is a short (15 min) walk from the oval cricket ground. Close to kennington tube. Good selection of beers and friendly staff a patrons. Will stop by again for a pint
D. L.
Super friendly and accommodating staff, decent selection of beers on tap, good food and lots of space.
A. H.
Great service. Nice selection of food & drink..Reasonably priced for the area. Plenty of space for socialising.
R. B.
Great place. Thought it is a small pub, but was shocked when came in and saw how big it is. Fnatastic garden at the back as well.... and the most important during this times - fantastic air con. Stayed only for a pint, but I'm sure food is good too. Will be back for more. Thanks.
J. F.
What brought me in here was how close it was to my friend’s apartment in Kensington. I great to have a cozy and comfortable place like this where you can have good drinks, food and good conversation with friends. Will definitely come back again!
I.
This place is huge! Great pint of youngs best and a superb chicken club sandwich. Friendly staff also.
T. H.
average pub, nothing special nothing that stands out to review or comment. Prices quite expensive for the area though £25 for a G&T and a pint
B. D.
Enjoyed my visit. Nice venue, food was nice and very friendly service which was unexpected for central London. Thank you. 😊
G.
Large pub with nice beer garden and spacious dining area. What sets it apart is the theatre space on the first floor. Unfortunately the choice of draught beers is uninspiring: they still focus on Young's keg ales and many, many lagers. Fortunately their house red wine is quite quaffable. Complimentary WiFi.
K. L.
I loved this pub! Really nice atmosphere, good food and decent prices! I highly recommend it!
l. w.
Great food, wonderful service from super friendly, welcoming staff. Great pub with lots of tables, nice outdoor garden. So glad we chose to eat here.
M. H.
As friendly as ever. Table service was good but also bar service is available if you want that. Friendly staff who try to help with the crossword!
Food is good and a diverse selection of well kept beer means it has something for many tastes
h. d.
Amazing roasts!!! X
T. M.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Will definitely come here again
M. S.
Really great service 👏👏👏👏 bit pricey but earns it with service, interesting decor and wine selection
D. T.
Pretty expansive pub with garden and restaurant area. Beer is good and a pleasant place to spend an hour or two.
S. B.
Friendly staff, nice pub - much bigger than expected. Good beer. I will come back to see one of their show....
A. M. W.
Very nice bar and the food is great too. Easy ordering though the app.
J. M.
Lovely pub, worked in the area for several years. One of my favourites, Good beer and food
A. C.
Lovely spot, great beers. Was also pretty empty on a Monday evening and the staff were great. Lovely pub 👍
L. P.
Really quirky friendly place. Great decor, lovely ambiance and staff are happy to help.
R. A.
Freshly refurbished, and refurbished very well indeed. The food was outstanding and the garden delightful. Service was slow during busy hours (we came for a Sunday roast) but always warm and friendly.
M. k.
One of the best Pub in London, with excellent service and top class chefs.
R. A.
I went for the theatre show which was great but stayed for the bar and food. You have everything here for a while evenings entertainment
O. T.
Really fantastic pub. Young's owned, so they have all the Young's beers.
Food is great too, burgers are great. If you are going for a Sunday Roast, try and go 1 - 2pm as they do run out.
C. H.
Had a warm welcome from Conner. Who was very helpful and pleasant .will come back
M. C.
Staff very nice and helpful. Good clean pint for my other half he was very pleased with that. The food was amazing well worth the money. Felt comfortable and looked after will definitely be back soon had an relaxed and enjoyable evening.
H. W.
Excellent service and very good food
Very attractive decoration and atmosphere
N. S.
Decent pub (deceptively large) with good service. Small but pleasant beer garden at back.
A. k.
Good food, slow but very friendly service
J. C.
Love the pub quiz here and a cool vibe (tad on the expensive side though)
A. S.
Spacious pub with outdoor seating and a theater upstairs. Has a nice cozy atmosphere but is in need of some serious updating, especially toilets and carpets leading upstairs and into the theater.
Sunday roast was lovely. I had a pork belly and was not dissapointed. It was properly cooked. There is a good variety of beer and ales on the menu as well.
C. C.
Absolutely massive roast dinners, tasty and insanely filling with a good choice of beers to go with it. Whatever you fancy they will probably have something you fancy and the service is fast and friendly. The pub is much bigger than it looks from the front as it goes back a long way. Shame they don't have a projector but I suppose it allows them to have a few different things going on in the pub.
M. B.
Popped in for a quick beverage, stayed for three hours as it was so calm and relaxing.
Great management from Iggy and well trained staff.
Going back with friends to enjoy this wonderful venue more !
N. J.
Lovely pub with some great food. They've a good selection of beers and variety of food so it's great for groups. We went there with a baby on Saturday afternoon and it was perfect as it was easy to make space for a pram.
P. H.
Great pub both inside and out (nice beer garden). Food was fantastic and wide selection of beers. My chicken was something you'd be happy with from a high end restaurant. Youngs pub.
R. Z.
Nice, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and seriously one of the best burgers I've ever eaten in London. The burger was stacked perfectly, juicy, and cooked to the proper temperature without even telling them. The chips that accompanied were also a generous portion, so much so that I had to request a bigger plate! I use the pub as a space to use my laptop and it's generally quiet, the free WiFi is fast, and the toilets clean. I will be back again and again!
K. M.
Went on Saturday evening. Pretty empty at 10 pm but good music and range of beers .
C. O.
Really interesting layout and decor as far as pubs go, but now it's a fullers they rinse you for even the most common and generic of lagers. It's a shame, as the food menu has made an effort and it's a place you'd want to spend longer in rather than just a two round and do one affair.
A. M.
I visited this pub for a friend's birthday gathering. She reserved a spot in the main bar area but got placed out the back. The atmosphere was good. We only ordered drinks but the food coming out looked really yummy. My friend took her own cake and they were fine with the outside food. They even bought us plates and cutlery for the cake.
L.
I’m sat in The White Bear as I write this review. I’ve been here a few times now and absolutely love it. It really is a beautiful pub that’s a little deceiving from outside. From outside it looks like a standard size boozer from its time. But inside it’s absolutely massive and beautifully decorated.
They have a great selection of lagers, ales and spirits and the staff are both extremely polite and knowledgeable. The food is to die for and you absolutely MUST try the Sunday Roast.
There are a good selection of pubs in this area, but you’d be a fool to miss this one off your list of places to visit.
J. I.
Great pub and amazing staff
M. R.
Good variety of beer, delicious food and good service.
M. W.
Lovely revamp of an old pub. Plus the theatre is such a great asset to the venue. Prices a bit steep but I suppose we have to pay for the refit.
C. K.
Went for their Christmas feast. As it's a set menu I was expecting the usual Christmas mass produced food you get in a lot of restaurants, but not so! Fantastic meal from start to finish, well cooked and presented and all my work colleagues agreed the food was great, attentive staff too. Recommend if you are still looking for a Christmas do venue!
A. T.
After long day at work and viewings looking for a new home we just found this lovely pub, great place, lovely deco and Kamila the waitress looked after us properly. Very recommended.
G. b.
First time visit to this pub with Waterloo Classic car club, although not impressive or attractive from outside also looks very small.
However things changed when inside it is quite large, a row of tables
for our group if 17 people was comfortable.
My lunch order was made on line two weeks in advance, and there was
no problem, food served quickly also was good.
One thing I did notice at White Bear and only seen on in this pub, at the bar they have free Water Container with Glasses, a nice idea.
Washroom was also clean and tidy.
On our visit the pub was quite busy, still staff was very friendly.
A.
One of my favourite places for a Sunday Roast. The internal seating area comes unexpected from the look the pub has outside. They also have an amazing back yard for a chill drink on sunny days.
B. L.
This was my local in the 90s absolutely fantastic Sunday dinner and a pint with Steven Berkoff after his show in the theatre brilliant memories and hope to visit again soon
E. D.
Our favourite pub in the area. It is inexplicably likeable. Nice variety of sitting areas, including big chairs by a fire. Dog friendly. It also seems to have a theatre upstairs which we keep meaning to go to but haven't yet. The food is good, but we were a bit disappointed with the Sunday roast when we went, so we typically sit in the pub section and order from that menu rather than from the restaurant bit.
O. A.
Good food, good service,
D. 8.
Really nice pub - great option for hot days with large outside, plenty of tables and air con inside. Food v tasty and a well stocked bar with lots of good drafts. Perfect meeting spot before the cricket - and a good place to escape back to after!
P. H.
One of the best Sunday roasts in South London! The pork was cooked to juicy perfection and the crackling was sublime. Gravy and all the trimmings made it even better. Will be back again soon!
S. F.
Great little theatre to watch amazing plays. Intimacy and quality in one place.
The pub looks amazing but service could improve. No eye contact, no knowledge of who was first so you end up waiting far too long. Some members of staff are great, but unfortunately when they're not present you don't get the service.Food is good.
It's not a pub atmosphere anymore and although I like dogs and kids, I don't appreciate them taking over the place. Kids, dogs and babies have no business being in a pub for hours on end. I've witnessed several instances where someone nearly tripped over a sleeping dog left in the middle of the pathway or was tripped by kids running around or on scooters. Real health and safety issue to be looked into.
E. B.
The White Bear is without a doubt my favourite pub in Kennington. The pub itself is stunning and vast... it has two gardens, a restaurant, a casual dining space and a bar. The team are all so friendly and helpful and the food is 10/10. Definitely a must visit!
L. G.
Easy pub, friendly staff, but felt a little "chain pub" with the ordering app. Plenty of space
L. D.
Wow.... I'm in love with this place. I had some good services before, but the friendliness of the staff here is just beyond anything one would expect. I came in with my dog (Cookie) for a meal... and the team was so welcoming and kind that it hooked me immediately. I will be definitely coming back. The food was delicious as well. Special thanks to Laura and the gentlemen at the bar (I'm terrible with names).
T. S.
Awesome Xmas roast! Service was a little slow.
J. C.
This pub looks fantastic after the refurbishment. Did menu is great, nice wine list, and good selection of beers.
The dining room is huge, and there is a lovely little garden out the back. The garden is no smoking, which is great for me, but can put some people off.
There is also a small theatre upstairs that shows independent productions, new writers, and revivals of old classics. Highly recommend a visit to three pub and the theatre. London should have more places like this.
L. O.
Great space for a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Seemed like a good range of beers with a solid standard pub menu. The glorified sausage roll aka pork Wellington looked fabulous and sold out.
A. a.
24 gun salute for the chicken pie !
I count this is probably the best pie I have encountered globally !
So amerced in the consumption that my girlfriend complained about lack of communication
Cant wait until the next !
A. B.
Since the great renovation of a few years ago this has become one of the nicest pubs to eat and drink in the local area. The staff are friendly, the food is great and they have a good menue of wines and beers all at not extreme prices. We love that there is sometimes live music.
J. L.
Amazing space. Need to try the food but the menu does not jump out at you
J. F.
I hear this pub has had a re-fit recently, but this was my first visit. Went for Sunday roast, very nice food (Chicken and veg, chocolate mouse dessert). Reasonably priced, but not cheap. Good selection of ales. Some of the staff were very friendly.
V. F.
It has been and amazing experience. The food was good, especially the steak, but the service was perfect. Adrian and Eleonora are the people serving the tables. They know the job. Really recommended!
N. L.
Absolutely love this pub. This is my local - the food is really nice and fairly priced. Very nice and authentic inside
Only potential cons: not a massive list of choice on the menu, and not super rowdy (if that even is a con!)
P. S.
Produced a play here before the revamp had the pleasure of going back recently and the set up of the bar is great! Very spacious and that's rare to find in London. The theatre upstairs keeps its intimate feel with high quality tech equipment and L shaped seating. Lovely place.
K. M.
Renovation looks great but they are let down by mostly incompetent staff - they have a cocktail menu but "don't make cocktails"; they have several sparkling wines on the menu but "champagne is in the store room and isn't cold"; food could be great but was poorly timed (my companion's meal was stone cold, then was told to wait another 20mins whilst the other diner's meals just sat there) and elements of laziness - beef wellington was a lovely cut but over cooked and served with inedible pastry; vegetables were well prepared. Wine list is decent and well priced. We decided to give up before dessert...
It has potential but needs a lot of work.
S. “. L.
Staff were friendly and it's a nice space. Food was average (overcooked tasteless sausages and mash) and fairly pricey for what it was. Also £4.50 for a pint of orange and lemonade?
F. M.
A friend was performing in the theatre upstairs, so a group of us came and ate at the pub restaurant. The prices were reasonable, there was a good vegetarian choice - which I always appreciate - and we got a 10% discount because we bought theatre tickets. All in all a great night.
J. W.
Gorgeous interiors and outdoor garden. Lovely food though could be a bit speedier
B. B.
We went to the pub on a Friday night. The whole place has been refurbished with the restaurant at the back of the pub in a fairly quite area. The main menu had a good choice and the special menu was good value with some more exotic choices. Prices are fair and the service was excellent.
M. P.
It would've been 5 stars. Great attentive wait staff, but pork belly roast was not crispy.
Plus, I burned my hands on the ridiculously hot skillet used to serve the cauliflower cheese, which was also burnt. They need to put a cover on that handle.
K. W.
It was fairly spacious and the beer garden looked good, even though I didn't go outside. They could do with adding Wray & Nephew to the rum selection but the staff were really friendly and we had good banter. I'll probably go back when I'm in the area.
Y. P.
Lovely cosy pub with great food. Only downside is the staff. American girl paired with the loud mouthed, VERY vocal mixed race bar guy whom speaks & laughs so everyone hears he is here! Not exactly what you want when you are in a 'relaxed' atmosphere.
J. P.
Expensive largish quite nice pub. It has a ceiling newly painted to look nicotine stained, and an authentic exposed brick wall. Large restaurant at the back serves decent unmemorable food. On a Tuesday night a toddler and her pink bicycle were in the bar, but bother her and her parents were well behaved.
As gentrification goes, you could do a lot worse, but it's not exactly full of local characters. At least it's not only posh thirty year olds like the Red Lion up the road.
They do nuts from big fancy jars instead of packets, and they cost more, look better, and taste worse. Says it all really.
A. S.
Very glad i found this pub, super friendly staff, great food and drinks menus with an excellent theatre upstairs
R.
Amazing pub, literally Barbara is the best barternder I've ever encountered! She is literally the definition of amazing. This girl needs a promotion! I only come here because of her. All the staff are amazing but Barbara is the best by far! I will be back ♥️😇
A. G.
Great to be back at one of my favourite fringe theatre venues, to see a fabulous show!
K. L.
Lovely, deserted place for lunch right near Kennington park. Proper pub good. Burger and sausage are apparently the way to go. Friendly service. Apparently it's taking in the evenings but oh so uncrowded at midday.
E. C.
I came here to eat out and see a performance of a play that was on in the small theatre upstairs.
I had the White Bear Burger with Chips and Onion Rings and Blue Cheese.
The staff are extreamly helpful. The food is extreamly delicious. Cooked very well and served in good time.
The small theatre upstairs is very good for watching plays in.
C. C.
It was OK. I went there primarily for a play that was being presented at the theater that the pub has, and it seemed to be a well patronized "local". In that respect it may be hard to beat if you live in the area, but was not as good as a couple of pubs nearer to where I live. The main reason for 4 stars rather than 3 is the fact that the place had a theater and seems to really try to cover all the bases and local demand. This is something that only the bigger "gastropubs" seem to do, so kudos to the White Bear for that. Recommended if you are in the area and looking for a decent establishment.
M. C.
Large bar good selection of drinks. Ideal for groups
A. L.
Conveniently located close to the tube, a large and on this day, spacious pub with a nice garden, bees included. Really friendly and helpful staff. Loved my vegetarian roast and generous portion. Thank you!
D. G.
The White Bear is a lovely pub theatre which supports innovative plays and great new write! Worths to visit!
S.
Excellent food, really good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Slightly unorganised with the pre booked food order, long wait however did have alot of large groups in so busy. Could do with a more child friendy, childs menu. A little over priced.
S. J.
Great place to meet for drinks (with a fab outdoor area) and the theatre upstairs was a hoot. It's lost a star though due to the horrendous state of the toilets and the resulting smell that resonates each time someone opens the bathroom door.
H. W. (.
This place is a pub and a theatre, and very good at both in my opinion. The pub is just the right balance of local and welcoming. The theatre is very intimate (small) which was perfect for the production I saw which was a very intense Greek tragedy. Will definitely keep an eye on what's on as the standard was very good.
S.
Love this place. Great food, id say they just need more staff during lunch times. A non beer battered option would have been great for the cod or fish fingers. Nothing nad to say about this place.
T. W.
Very nice pub, looks deceptively small from the outside but once inside you see how large it is. Very big dining area out the back, not see the garden but have been told it's a large garden area.
K. N.
The decor and vibe of this pub is worth spending an evening here. The service and wait staff are friendly and hospitable. Though the food is average and you fork out about £15-20 for a main at a pub. Skip this unless you're already at the pub!
B. H.
Great place, fantastic roasts and staff who go above and beyond (thank you, Kieran!). We'll be back!
Z. J.
As pubs go... This has to be my least favourite in London. The pub seems to not know what it is. Is it restaurant? A place for people to drink? A place for people to work?
It tries to cater to all personalities and I think in doing so, loses its own personality.
R. B.
Great selection of beers and great food; the service can really vary - sometimes there are enough staff and everything is great; other times it seems like it’s all falling apart.
Mostly it’s great!
I. A.
Went for play at the upstairs theatre and decided to eat beforehand. Staff were great and food was stunning. Good selection of ale as well. Place is an absolute gem :)
O. B.
Great pub quiz. Wednesday nights, £1 a person, free drinks to be won and the top prize is a £50 bar tab. Well worth the money
S. C.
The best pub in kennington
f.
It’s a nice local pub. Great for hearty conversations with some of your close friends while getting drunk afterwards or even simply by yourself.
C. P.
Tried the beetroot and chickpea burger, definitely not great, the fries that comes with it were a little bit soggy. Large selection of drinks though and the attention is great!
E. A.
The theatre is super intimate - about 50 seats, in a studio space. It's sort of charming and amazing the variety of work that goes on here considering it's sat in the back of a Celtic supporters pub in Kennington! Other than the occassional carry through of noise from the pub, the atmosphere is fun and busy. The drinks are good and they also do proper Irish crisps, the version of walkers that Irish friends go wild for! #Irishtini
S. H.
Really nice pub. Super friendly staff and great range of beers.
P. R.
Newly refurbished, this place is massive but with tons of character. Not busy at all during the week, making it a great place to chat over a beer, without shouting. Also serves food though didn't try it.
A. F.
Fantastic pub with great ale, food and frisky efficient staff, lovely smoke free garden at the rear. Interesting memorabilia.
c. h.
Superb place, fantastic non smoking back garden!
J. D. S. (.
Recently reopened (October 2016) and is vastly improved. Great beer selection and tasty food. Welcoming staff and good atmosphere (though the prices are a bit high for the portion sizes).
K. B.
Huge portions for main meals, or smaller tapas-like snacks. Great pork pies and lovely G&Ts, head to the garden at the back in the summer...
S. G.
What a lovely pub with graet decor.
Great selection for beers and the food looks amazing.
Spoke to Iggy who was very helpful and knowledgeable.
A. S.
Friendly, great space and good range of food and drinks
P. H.
Well appointed gastro pub. Delicious Beef Wellington, washed down with a spicy Malbec - just a sample of a very good menu. Highly recommended...
N. P.
Friendly staff, beautiful meal here
D. B.
First time in London, became our local
Lovely atmosphere friendly services
Good selection of ales. Comfortable.
I would highly recommend this place and we will be back. Enjoy
S. L.
Good food good vibes. Issue with our order and was given complimentary desserts! Would go again
C. J.
The place is ok, but the food is not all that. Drinks are pricey. Decor is dirty. Tables are wobbly. Toilets are the most bad thing there.
R. R.
Bigger than it looks from the outside! Best not is that the smokers have to stay out the front whilst everyone else can enjoy a smoke-free beer garden out back. Plenty of inside tables for food too.
V. D.
Looks great after being renovated a while back. Good selection of wines. Never tried food but good menu. Atmosphere is lively.
A. V.
Tasty food with 2 vegan options and friendly staff.
K. T. F.
Food was ok. Service was pretty good, but they forgot a lot of things with our order. I wish pur waiter would have written things down. He forgot everything and got our orders wrong.
M. S.
I had a delicious chicken pie. Staff are friendly too.
A. P.
Great pub, ornate with a great ambience. If you're watching your purse strings you may be best off going somewhere else, the beer is top drawer.
J. D.
Was told if we want to sit outside (inside was ok!) then had to download their app! Went elsewhere.
p. 9.
Nice place but the roast dinner was a shocker!! Cold, limp beef and grotty veg - a bit poor to be honest otherwise OK. Other food was good.
A. A.
Very nice staff and great selection of beer. Seems to be a big place with a large dinning area at the back.
K. T. M.
Quirky pub with brilliant service from bar staff. Needed to find somewhere local and was recommended this place by the staff at Kennington Tube Station. They were right the staff did help. Highly recommend
S. B.
We go here a lot, friendly staff, welcome kids, bar and restaurant area. Nice outdoor seating. Much bigger than it looks from the outside.
D. Y.
After reading several reviews, decided to try this place out while visiting London. Good food (Pork Belly) and Great service!
B. F. K.
Nice pub with a great intimate theatre upstairs. You get 10% off the yummy pub food when you attend a show too!
D. H.
Since there are not enough entertainment places for me and my wife (because of our ages) in our area, it's one of our favourite. You can feel great at this place, not only because it's a theatre. Here are working only professionals and this can not be unnoticed from a fans like me.
L. H.
The White Bear Theatre is located in the White Bear Pub, Kennington, South London. Minutes from the tube station, the location itself makes it easily accessible to Londoners from North, East and West to attend a performance.
The theatre has been providing fertile ground for emerging talent to showcase their stuff since 1988. During a recent visit I was struck by the rare intimacy bestowed between the cast and the audience, owing to the small size of the theatre, proving that a theatre experience takes on many forms.
Refreshingly, aspiring playwrights can put on their play without needing to be a household name first.
J. F.
Decent boozer, nice ambience, slightly expensive. Guinness was good. Few booths as well which is always a plus.
M. S.
Very good and friendly service and good pub style food, large selection of beers an a more than fair of wine.
B. K.
First time in this pub for about 10 years, new management, Reece, I believe the manager on shift was a great host.
T. W.
Somewhat off the beaten path pub serving a lovely community. Good beer at a fair price. Plenty of seating for all
M. F.
It was great to enjoy dinner and a play in the same venue! The play was great and the food was solid, but the service was a little slow.
S. F.
Food is really nice, the whole place looks really cute and picturesque, but it is quite expensive for a pub even for London.
Was open New Year's Day
A. W.
Love this place, especially the beer garden. Good food too!
c.
Well it's a great place for cocktails and food. It seems not the cheapest but the bar staff, food staff and management are good. I recommend the food entirely!
A. N.
An excellent professional staff was able to handle some menu issues with humor and professional suggestions to mitigate. The food was excellent and a great experience.
A. R.
Cosy and charming. Great staff
R. H.
Big pub but the layout gives it an intimate feel. It seems they operate a theater above it; I didn't check it out but I like the idea.
J. S.
Lots of great spaces to sit, good choice of beer, service a little stretched if too many people at the bar.
O. N.
Great local pub. Can't wait until it reopens.
T. E.
Some really great shows in a welcoming and intimate theatre. Get there early and try the steak and ale pie - which is worht 5 stars in its own right.
M. C.
Enjoyable show and pint
J. O.

T. L.
Nice vibe here. Friendly wait staff. Reasonable prices. Great music. Can't ask for much more!
G. M.
One of London's finest. Book now, it won't disappoint!
S. B.
Good pub. Staff were very concerned with their price increases. Vocal about it too.
D. S.
Located at the back of a pub, catching a play at this cosy and intimate theatre is a totally different experience. I was literally caught in the action as one of the actors who was crawling on the floor pulled himself up with the help of my leg!
C. B.
Excellent food. Hiver beer is brilliant. The beer garden was a pleasant surprise. Well worth a visit.
P. M.
Only in for 1 drink in early afternoon. Nice bar with good selection of beers. Few seats outside as well.
M.
Sunday lunches are good although the vege option was a bit on the dry side. The staff are friendly and prices are fair
B. C.
The White Bear Theatre programs a diverse service of theatre at the heart of London's fringe scene. The actors cross from stage left to stage right through a Irish pub and wait for their cue but their entrance is as vigorous as any other. An intimate space that can be used imaginatively, well worth a visit.
