Reviews of The White Hart
K. B.
Awesome place. Traditional pub. Lots of character. Good dejection of beers and spirits. Happy staff who served with a smile. What is there not to like. Really enjoyed my experience
K. C.
Great little pub, cosy, comfy, just what you need after walking around London. Would definitely recommend. We didn't have food but it from what we saw it looked lovely. Toilets were lovely and clean too.
I. H.
What a fantastic gem of a pub. Their Sunday Roast was delicious. We really had a wonderful time. Thank you to the Manager and his team! 💜 Xxx
E. V.
Great service. Ordered the fish and chips, wasn't too greasy just perfectly crisp batter with tasty fish. Served with a side of garlic dip which was so good! Selection for drinks seemed great and overall atmosphere made the place feel very welcoming.
A. D.
Lovely reasonablely priced food and very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit.
S. S.
Lovely little pub at a very convenient location. When I went in the bartender let me know the kitchen was shut for 15/20 minutes but would take my order immediately upon reopening and she did just that. I wasn't after much so ordered a salad and by golly it was a delicious and light little meal!
M. M.
Nice pub, not so big selection of ales. Nice staff
E. D.
Great service and delightful sticky toffee pudding! Only £5 and so worth it!
j. p.
Historic traditional pub in London, apparently the oldest licensed premises, selling food until 9pm, not a great choice on the menu and pretty average but friendly staff. Warm interior and pleasant atmosphere although there’s better old traditional pubs in London, prices average for area.
G. K.
Fantastic Pub just opposite the Travelodge Hotel in Covent Garden, very friendly welcoming landlord and staff. Great food and beer and fair prices. Loads of history being the first ever licensed public house in London.... Look up the Muffin Man legacy..... Would highly recommend you visit.....
M. G.
Lovely little bar. Wide variety of drinks on draught. Had the Sunday roast dinner, it was lovely. Good value for money.
B. D.
Absolutely love this place - it’s become a staple must when visiting London. Happened upon it after the hotel bar wasn’t open at the Travelodge due to the pandemic. It’s nice and cosy, food is spot on and the staff are great even recognising us despite 6-9 month gaps between visits making us feel like regulars
C. B.
Excellent pub. Professional hardworking staff. Great food. Well worth a visit
J. G.
Great atmosphere, a nice little find whilst walking around. Staff were friendly & good music.
i. m.
Fairly quiet for a Thursday lunchtime but I don't know why. An amazing halloumi and beetroot salad washed down with a lovely Moretti. Pub still had lots of character even when not full. Get there for the history lesson too.
S. K.
Drank the ST Austall Tribute. Pale ale beer. Good clarity. Golden color. More hoppy than malty. Good imported selection.
J. W.
Great staff and a lovely atmosphere. Was reccomended a new favourite drink here (Apple juice and tennessee fire)
K. O.
Best late night pub near Leicester Square, great fun when the music comes on & everyone starts dancing into the early hours!
I. L.
Great little pub with good selection of ales! Nice staff and comfy seating areas.
C. G.
Visited the White Hart twice in one day during our stay at the nearby Travelodge. Good selection of gins and other drinks, in a bright, clean bar. We didn't eat, but the food looked great too. The staff were helpful and attentive. We have to give our thanks to the staff member (manager?) who declined to serve a drunk male who came into the pub, kept removing his mask and forcing his attention on two women quietly drinking nearby. This was done in a quiet, professional way. There were several people eating and drinking on their own here, as well as couples and groups. Would thoroughly recommend this place and will be visiting again next time we go to London.
m. c.
We had a fabulous time ,we were greeted with a warm welcome and all the staff are absolutely charming. All of us had such a lovely 🥰 time and had the privilege to meet the proprietor, how lucky were we and he also was charming, would highly recommend 💋💃🍷🍹🍸🥰🙏❤️😘👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏Thankyou all at theWhite Hart 💋

Lovely little pub. Great food and friendly staff
L.
Popped in for a quick dinner with son.
Good ambience, welcoming atmosphere, kind staff, quality food (the chef's special was excellent), clean bathrooms and kid-friendly.
Highly recommended.
W. G.
A lovely pub next to the Travelodge we were staying at.
Deceptive in size and a positive first impression.
Helpful, welcoming staff.
A good choice of drinks.
Respect to the manager who turned away a group due to their non- compliance of the covid rules which can be overlooked in preference of profit !
A. C.
Like so many bars in London craft beers and continental lagers replacing good old English beers
M. A.
Found this little gem just on the corner of the road Rd from our travelodge. Great service and really good food, and good value for money. We will definitely return before we leave 😁
M. C.
Lovely staff always welcoming. Great place to have drinks and good pub food. The Sunday roast is a special 5 stars.
J. M.
Had such a tasty dinner here with friends after work! The San Miguel draught was ice-cold with a delicious caramel to it, fish and chips were tasty (with plenty chips) and great value at £9.99, and my wife loved her single hot dog (double was available too). Service staff were fast and happy. Will definitely be going back!
S. C.
Popped in on a Saturday to have a bit of a rest from walking, we found ourselves a sofa at the back which was very comfy and made it difficult to leave. Staff were helpful and friendly with a good knowledge of the gins available. We'll be back when we're in London again.
D. W.
I always try to grab a visit here when I am in London.
After a West End show I find it bustling and enjoyably busy. The most recent visit I was the only one in there.... what do you expect for 4pm on a Wednesday though!
H. T.
Stayed at a hotel nearby, so went there with the wife, had a quiet pint and some very tasty tapas snacks.
Great selection of drinks and food menu had good variety.
Felt cosy and comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.
Nice place
m. f.
Lovely old pub in Drury lane, great food cooked fresh, best ever fish, well worth a visit.
P. T.
Had a great time, nice food good beer fun atmosphere
K. W.
One of few pubs in London you can actually feel relaxed in. Never a wait, friendly staff, great atmosphere and not massively inflated prices. Definitely recommend.
G. T.
Prices not bad, food good. Bar staff gave good service and kept pub clean.
G. Q.
Big place. No outside sitting, and definitely not that a great beer 'menu'. Service was nice enough.
P. C.
It's a lot larger on the inside than it looks on the outside! Excellent bar staff and a good selection of drinks. The food is good quality and remarkably cheap for central London.
E. L.
Friendly staff, great party atmosphere on friday and saturdays.
D. F.
A gem of a place we found last night, open until 2am ,right close to travel lodge, music, food, drink and friendly staff, say no more.
A. D.
Kristoff and the staff are always amazing! The fact that each of my visits (quite a few 🍻) have always been the same, says something about the standards of this pub. Wojciech and Houmy always there to welcome you with a smile and make sure you have a great night! Thanks guys. P.S. The chicken strips are AWESOME!
D. V.
Very nice place, for a hungry and thirsty traveller.
I. C.
Fabulous pub. Friendly service. Inexpensive food. Sadly not busy
J. F.
A local friend recommended to meet here for a drink. Just had well drinks which was fine. Bar tenders’ service was nice that you can get your drink pretty easily when on a Friday night.
R. H.
Nice pub and friendly staff. Food very acceptable.....all round good choice!
M. C.
Good service and a nice when we are next in London will try the food but a nice traditional comfy pub
J. D.
Fantastic food at a good price, lovely staff.
M. T.
Casual pub with a nice selection of beer & wine. Good spot for a cheeky.
m. h.
Food excellent staff excellent loved it xx
S. B.
This is a pub with an interesting interior and a more unique vibe, with a live DJ on the weekend evenings and more communal seating than individual tables. This makes for a great social atmosphere and a friendly vibe, with the staff behind the bar helping to maintain that theme with the good service. Prices are reasonable and everywhere is clean. It’s a good place to swing by for a drink.
D. G.
Lovely fresh vibe with history still preserved. Great service staff.
R. R.
We spent a nice Saturday afternoon drinking here. The pub was quiet but with decent background music, Motown, blues etc. Strangely the interior was painted white with the obligatory black ceiling. The furniture was comfortable, the loos were clean. The beer and wine were good. The service was excellent, with the barmaid apologizing if she couldn't find the branded glass for that brand of beer. This pub is reputedly the oldest licensed pub in London, dating back to 1216, possibly...
N. B.
I just got a pint. Lovely atmosphere . Nice to have a feel of the place.
J. W.
Historic pub at the north end of Drury Lane. Good mix of seating, comfy sofa, bench seats for groups of friends and the usual. Good selection of beers and spirits and staff are friendly and welcoming and service is good. Open till midnight of a weekday. Place you can enjoy as a large group or sitting on your own reading the paper. At the time of writing (October 2019) a pint of Camden Hell £5.50.
n. c.
We came upon this pub by chance on route from car park to see Mary Poppins and what a lucky find. The food was wonderful, the price for a London pub was great and the staff were friendly and all in all a great atmosphere. We also loved reading about the history of the pub. Would definately recommend and return.
C. A.
V.friendly staff. Decent pub.
H. J.
A wonderful restaurant with excellent food in an old location! They have a free, historical pamphlet at every table, great beer, and nice service. I have a food allergy and they even had food to accommodate my allergy which is excellent as a traveler. The next time I'm back in London, I'm definitely coming back here!
M. M.
Only problem I have is a service charge on two pints of beer I know times are hard but I dont think it's acceptable.Hide the increase in your pump prices.
D. J.
Looks small, but opens up into a good sized pub with nice open wooden frame domed ceiling. It's the oldest licenced premises in London, so lots of historic vibes. Food is good quality standard pub food (fish n chips, burgers, Sunday roasts...) and at a reasonable price.
J. M.
Great pub, great Beer
R. A.
The bubbly attitudes and infectious smiles of the staff made our night!! All really helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble.
There was a minor mix up in the kitchen, and our food was delayed (nothing major). The manager sent over a bottle on the house as way of apology which was really kind!
Their southern chicken strips are delicious!!
We'd definitely eat here again.
M. S.
Nice old pub. Good selection of drinks on tap. Good offerings on food and all under 10 pounds which is quite remakable for central London. I had the vegan cauliflower and red pepper Keralan curry (and exercised the "adding some chicken" option) which was really rather excellent.
A. S.
Nicely decorated, good food menu, spacious and well illuminated. The employees were friendly and professional and the food came relatively quickly. I would have liked a few more attractive, non-fried food options, especially for the tapas menu but the fried options were tasty. There were plenty of TVs to watch the football matches as well.
I. O.
This is my local pub near my work for over 20 years. Lovely food and fantastic atmosphere all year round. It is known for being one of the oldest licenced pubs in England. Come visit and if you love salad I recommend chicken ceaser salad. It's delicious.
B. N. M.
This must be one of the best old London pubs. So much history. The staff are very kind and helpful. Food is excellent. Thank you guys for looking after us so well. 10 out of 10. Perfect!
A. T.
Had a great time in this pub yesterday. Went for a drink before we had dinner and theatre and then went back afterwards to finish off the evening. Fantastic friendly staff, really warm atmosphere & excellent service. Will definitely visit again when in London ❤❤
S. O.
Nice pint and good atmosphere.
M. V.
The oldest pub in London in which Dick Turpin had a pint just prior to having his neck stretched. He must have been very happy if the pint was as good as mine...a nice hoppy real ale. Great beer. Great service. Not too packed and deceptively big inside. Did not try the food but it looked good from the next table...good pub fayre.
S. C.
Good food staff very helpful.
M. J.
A nice atmospheric pub in the heart of central London.
E.
Visited this pub for lunch during a visit to the Imperial War Museum (which is around the corner). The staff were friendly, and I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food. A definite find if you're in the area visiting the IWM and their small cafe is too busy.
L. S.
Huge portions. Lovely staff
A. D. S.
The pie is more of a hot pot with a Yorkshire pudding on top. Some people we were with didn't rate the Salmon plate and chips. Staff are helpful and patient with big groups during busy period. Would go back for a pint or Friday lunch.
K. S.
I am so sorry for scoring you only for 3 stars. However, let me explain you why... I was waiting to be served. Unfortunately I felt that no one really paid attention and served people who came after me. One lady almost jump on me for saying that she was before me, that was really unfair.. Please let your staff know or learn them how to pay a bit more attention what is really going on. In addition, the place was lovely, opened until late and reasonably prices.
t. p. b.
What a busy afternoon and evening it was at The White Hart, maybe due to the march against Brexit. Anyway, the bar staff managed the sudden surge of pub goers really well. The woman who served me was soooo calm, smiling and showing no sign of stress. A good range of dishes on the menu. I was very pleased with the Portobello Mushroom Burger that I ordered. My friends and I didn't have to wait long for our food.
I have been to The White Hart before and have never been disappointed. Try it yourself and see if you agree.
H. M.
Just popped in for a quick drink before closing time. Not busy, but it WAS late on a weekday. Nice pleasant and chatty staff and a nice clean pub. Would probably be quite enjoyable to spend time with some company here.
T. M.
Great Pub steeped in history, the manager Kristoff was a true character and really made our experience a unique one. If your in central London i recommend popping in for there local beer and lovely grub!
M. C.
Pleasant, very old pub with a vaulted ceiling and roof light at the back - must be listed - and nice staff. Allegedly the oldest licenced premises in London - believable in Drury Lane - and with a good beer selection and funny comment boards
A. R.
Amazing little place we stumbled upon before seeing the school of rock musical. Prices very reasonable and the food was lovely. Great atmosphere and the staff were very helpful. Would highly recommend
s. b.
Good sendvis and good atmosphere. A family business!
Clean toilet😉
N. P.
Good range of drinks. Attentive staff
Y.
Great location
Open late
Very good music
Loud crowds
The pub staff are really smiley and friendly - helpful in suggestive different beers
The seating is comfy. It’s Cosy in here.
Good security at the door
S. O.
Straightforward pub, no nonsense with two good female staff on during lunch hour. Snacks were delicious, choice of four bowls for £15. Good value, will return
G. E.
I went to this pub with some lgbtq friends and they let us reserve an area at the back 4 hour quite large group. It is very central being right next to Shaftesbury Avenue and the staff are friendly. The food is relatively straightforward pub food. I had a vegetarian mushroom burger with chips which was pretty good. There's a good range of draught Bitters and Camden Hell lager is served on tap. The toilets could do with a little bit of renovation but they are usable. Lgbtq friendly.
s. m.
wow!!
one of the best bars in London. been here several times now and will continue to go.
great food, good staff and nice beer what more can you ask for.
R. W.
Friendly and nice pint, but not particularly comfortable. I liked the story about highwaymen and their last night of fun before the gallows, but that has to be made up.
M. B.
Great if you would like a bite to eat whilst having a drink...lovely staff at the bar and management are happy to take on all types of bookings. Also...not too mention...a DJ on the weekends if you feel like shaking a leg or singing along to some old classics.
R. M.
It may be old but the recent refurbishment has done little to help that (it's not a sympathetic restoration), going for more friendly wine bar than ye olde drinking den.
They do a decent pint of Guinness, the staff are nice and friendly but like other pubs in the area it will get busier later so be prepared
R. O.
Very friendly and informative staff on the bars history in being London's oldest pub. They've redone the floors from the black and white checkered floor to it's more original wood floor. Bar dates to the 1200's?!
S. R. (.
Cool little pub. Don't really go there often. There is a reasonable selection of beer but its not packed like 99% of pubs in central London. For me that's good but for others may not be. Thumbs up
S. S.
Lively pub, which if you drop by after work you will find completely packed and a layout which seems to amplify the crowd noise. Not the place for a quiet evening drink, or if you're hoping to get a seat, but otherwise a good high energy pub.
F.
Just look how much hearth they put into this decoration! Looks much better in real life than on photo.
B. P.
The White Hart is great, but often it's far too crowded. The pub is small and narrow, so it can be very difficult to get a seat. They have some great international beers on tap (Kozel and Blue Moon). Worth visiting if you're in the area.
A. W.
Really friendly staff. Had a meal at the back and it was great value and good food. Really quirky nice pub.
J. T.
Lovely staff everyone was friendly and we felt welcome
C. N.
Lovely staff, cosy pub. A++++
L. F.
Great pub in a decent location, served straight away and even managed to get seats on a busy Saturday night. Brilliant atmosphere and super helpful and friendly staff.
k.
Not the best service, the waiter lost and delayed some of the plate we ordered, service was slow and imprecise. The food was good but nothing special, the range of beers offered wasn't that broad. Meh
b. h.
Great place. Food was very good. Friendly and helpful staff.
O. T.
Best pub ever!!! No way you can enjoy a good environment with a cold beer like here. Just perfect!!
s. m.
Good food and attentive service 👌
H. G.
Empty for a Saturday. Cool for a beer, bad for dating. Could be highly improved with minimal decor and the right lighting. Looks like a spot that has never been modernised (but not in a vintage manner...) within a trendy area.
A. S. C.
I like it because it can be nice and cosy here at certain times (I like mid evening) and can also be quite lively late weekend nights. A great place to meet up with an old or indeed new friend/s.
l. t.
We arrived late Sunday so we didn't spend much time inside.. but we was greeted by the lovely bar staff who made us feel right at home even if it was only 45 minutes, due to closing time..
S. D.
My daughter held her 30th birthday party at The White Hart. Gia and her team could not have been more accommodating or professional. They dealt with all our requests and went above and beyond! The food was amazing and incredibly good value. Highly recommended!!
A. M.
Went here on a Monday afternoon for lunch and a beer. The pub was empty at the time, so it was very quiet and relaxing. The beer was great and the pub meal was pretty damn good. Was very nice to relax there.
C. M.
Great place for a quieter drink.
J. K.
Strange pub not quite sure about it, Went there for a drink after seeing a show at the shaftsbury wouldn't rush back , Seemed to be a sort of hip crowd ambiance it didn't feel freindly not threatening just not cosy.
M. V.
Come here every time I'm down here. Staff always friendly. Music always my kind of stuff. Decent beer. Plus it's open until midnight in the week...
A. M. G.
A lovely pub to visit, proprietor very welcoming just nice to sit for a quiet weekday drink with great background music
D. O.
Very pleasant pub, good atmosphere, the cask beers indicate a good cellar man who knows his trade & prices reasonable for the West End.
D. N.
Visited several times even had a meal in here which was very enjoyable staff friendly this was definitely the best pub we visited
D. M.
A nice enough old pub, not one you need to seek out if you're in London, but worth dropping in if you're in the area. The beer and cider was well kept and the prices were fine.
A. W.
Visited jyst after lunch on a Sunday whilst walking around London. Stayed for a pint. Nice tidy place. At that time of day it was quiet with plenty of space.
A. S.
So it may have one of the oldest premises in London (according to the little sign on the door anyway) but I found The White Hart to have little in the way of atmosphere. It certainly didn't feel old and I like places with a historic feel to them.
It seemed very popular with backpackers and tourists as well as the after work crowd, so the place got super crammed after 6pm. And I know that pretty much every bar and pub in Covent Garden will be busy at that time, but if you're going to be squashed and seatless, it may as well be in a pretty pub (like the nearby Princess Louise).
A. B.
Nice and quiet on the day , good food and friendly service.
Z. L.
Nice pub easy reach of shaftsbury ave. With with the entertainment in offer.
Allowed large group to book area in early evening.
D. F.
Great pub, tasty beer, nice staff, would have been 5 stars if only they knew how to identify accents
G. G. R.
Comfy couches and central location, worth a visit for a pint after work. The nachos were pretty huge and yummy. A few ales to choose from, worth a visit!
V. S.
Lovely pub.
E. B.
Great food and atmosphere 🙂
C. M.
Nice friendly pub 🍻
C. M.
Class pub, loads of ales, great atmosphere. Kristoff, thanks for making us welcome, awesome bar fella - See you again 👍
E. G. E.
We opportunely chanced upon The White Hart Pub whilst on our way to a restaurant and since we had an hour before our table reservation decided to pay a visit. The small street corner entrance belies how spacious it is inside. There is an excellent selection of wines and beers available to suit every palate at reasonable prices for central London. The food is standard, unpretentious pub fare and very satisfying; I wholeheartedly recommend the Grilled Chicken Breast Burger with fries. The bar staff are friendly and professional, no matter how busy it gets. We would like to thank and name check Tom who bears an uncanny resemblance to the singer Jim Morrison: we did mention this compliment to him.
History Note from the White Hart Pub website.
The White Hart pub has stood proudly on the corner of Drury Lane and High Holborn for centuries.
The Old Bailey archives reveal this corner to be the first and oldest licensed premise in London, dating back to 1216. ‘The Whyte Hart Public House’ has been the name of pubs on this site since the 15th century and was a legendary watering hole for London’s notorious highwaymen and rogues.
E. A.
Great English pub,
Good selection of music on Fridays and Saturdays, great environment, not too crowded, friendly members of staff, good selection of beers, not too expensive, cozy, love it.
M. M.
A very special, historical place with nice interieur. Certainly, the menu is also fine but I would not mention anything in particular because all I have ordered was perfect. 😁
O. P.
An all around good pub with decent food and drinks, albeit missing a bit of its own character. Great for a pit stop.
J. M.
Lovely friendly pub
T. K.
Nice drink in a lovely friendly pub. Barmaid Katrina went out of her way to help myself & my disabled pal. Customer service at It's best.... thank you
A.
Cozy pub with everything you'll expect from a pub 👯 #londonpub
S. W.
Good food and friendly staff
R. K.
Great place for a night cap after a long day sightseeing in London
N. M.
Lovely old pub nicely updated very casual seating arrangement. Good service with good food but slightly expensive, but it is in London west end.
M. E.
A nice, friendly pub. Expensive and not the most brilliant range of beers compared with others in the area.
R. F.
Great tap beer selection and good atmosphere for post work Friday night drinks. Nice to see pubs serving craft beers on tap.
S. H.
Oldest licenced premises in London - 810 years - beer good but the place did smell of drains/ toilets as you entered - if it hadn't we'd have stayed longer
A. B.
Historic and traditional pub on the edge of "theatreland" - indeed many actors can be spotted in here "post show". Can get busy/noisy.
Open late.
D. C.
Food was OK, not great but not bad. Came during the day so there weren't a lot of people. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing.
S. C.
Really nice pub, not over the top on prices, plenty of space, good range of drinks and friendly staff
J. “. M.
Great pub with a good selection of beer and white. Friendly service and a good atmosphere. Highly recommended
G. P.
Really nice bar with friendly staff and clientele. Need to swap the stools for chairs to accommodate those that wish to linger though.
S. T. O.
Nice cozy pub. Busy and packed especially Saturday afternoon. Great atmosphere.
A.
It's nice enough but has a weird smell to it. Staff are friendly, range of drinks is good just needs a facelift too
D. P.
Nice food, nice beer. I do like Doom Bar and Tribute. Well worth a quick lunchtime stop.
S. R.
The oldest licensed premises in London, no less. Clean, spacious interior. Well kept cask ale. Worth a visit.
C. C.
Heart pub and the staff were very friendly and hekpful.
We stopped here before a show and had a sandwich and drink. All very reasonable.
K. B.
Very friendly Staff. Lovely Design throughout. Modern interpretation of a historic pub. Nice atmosphere.
M. N.
Good atmosphere, but overpriced average food. Also the bartender turned off the game before it finished because England lost. Poor sportmanship!
S. M.
Lovely pub to have a nice pint with my family, staff very friendly and accommodating, free wifi will go back in the future.
P. D.
Great food, great atmosphere, amazing history. Reasonable prices and good service.
T. T.
Brilliant place that we spent a few hours in before theatre night. Staff friendly and attentive, food superb
S. G.
We purposely visited this pub due to the fact it's allegedly the oldest licenced pub in London. It was OK for a quick drink.
J. T.
Friendly, lively, very entertaining, quaint pub, warm atmosphere, very welcoming, Friday 10pm - 2am music for all tastes, highly recommended
C. S.
Love love love! Great music - mostly 90s 00s YASSSS! - and a party. The bathtub gin and aromatic tonic is amazing!!!!
J. B.
Absolutely excellent. Great place, room, food and staff. High recommended.
Many thanks

It's London. Someone went to a social club in the Midlands and said this is the style we want! Fantastic night! Proper drunk with a great service.
