I came on Friday for a few drinks and a little something to eat. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were a great help with really good costumer service will definitely going to be back there.

I would like to personally thank the bar staff serving myself and my friends on Saturday afternoon/evening on October 30th. They treated us with sensitivity and respect even when we were a little too vocal after consuming more than our fair share of their extensive range of beers. A special mention to the barmaid who helped me clear up the beer I managed to spill as we were leaving and had been serving us most of the time. Thank-you.

Good local pub. Wonderful staff. Wide choice of beer, 25+ gins on sale, no Welsh ones, do they exist? Also a question, any feeling that this place had a connection with Lenin and the Russian revolution? I have visited again and find the place better than before, a huge thank you to the people behind the bar, you make it what it is! Btw Welsh gins do exist.. thank you for being there.

Although in a great location and looking suitably grand and historic on the outside, inside it's not a very inspiring layout, with masses of empty space - presumably to accommodate the post-work crowd in the area. Despite being a relatively large room, the bar literally takes up half the space & makes it all feel strangely narrow and underused (see photo for example). If that wasn't bad enough, the bathroom operates as kind of a public toilet with people popping in and out of the side door which is right next to it (and quite a few of the tables) every few minutes... really great during the winter, with massive blasts of cold air to enjoy with your meal. Just an average pub I'm afraid.

Our first time here and we loved it. Team are very friendly and we had a good chat with one of the staff (northern lady). A really nice atmosphere to socialise in and it’s very clean and tidy. The building is soaked in history, so has a degree of charm about it. My only observation would be that it could do with a little work on the decor, however I value friendly staff and cleanliness over decor any day! Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Decent boozer. Quick service. There is an outside area and it two minutes stumble away from the station. All in all its not overpriced and its decent beer. Not a venue for live music but it does have sport on the flat screens dotted around the pub. So Angel bound get yourself in there.

I have very mixed feelings about this pub. On one hand, it's a great place to watch a televised match as it's not too crowded and has lots of TVs to watch. It also has decent food and a pretty large menu. Adversely however, the service is painfully slow and to be honest, it just smells bad in there. The kind of bad smell that's reminiscent of a pub that hasn't had it's floors properly cleaned in a month. I wouldn't call this pub my first choice, but it's not a complete miss.

Even better, it's two minutes from the Angel tube so very easy to get to. Frequented by a cosmopolitan crowd from around Islington and tourists from around the world who come to Upper Street.

Good selection of beer, food was not great though we ordered for sausage and mash but it turned out to be a vegetarian sausage when asked they said that it was the only option on the system and they will ask for a change in the system. I was stunned by the response and was speechless :)

Not a bad pub on a Saturday night. Eclectic mix of people. The beer I was drinking went to the bottom of the barrel and they didn't realise they served me a cloudy pint. Doesn't take long to check each pint before you hand it over.

A nice little pub set back off Upper Street. I went with a friend on a Wednesday evening for food and drinks. It wasn't very busy which was good, and we found a table straight away. I got fish and chips, which was nice, and my friend got a steak which was cooked exactly how he wanted. Disappointed that they don't have Desperados (my favourite!). It was a tad expensive, but I'd go back again!

I came over from Colorado to see my side Arsenal play, and I found this Classic, top shelf Pub. The service was excellent, Afton was exceptional, the beers were cold, and fab, and the Nicholson Club Sandwich was to die for!!! I stopped by everyday while I was here....Definitely a must see in Islington, and only a short walk from Angel station and the Hilton Hotel. Cheers!!!

Small but cosy traditional local pub many of these left landlady is a lovely person if you don't mind the squeeze it's a really great place to have a drink with some settings in the heart of the angel

If you don't want to 'slum it' in a Wetherspoons or a Lloyds bar but still want similar prices then this is your place. They make a valiant effort to offer something slightly better than mediocre but sadly they fall short. Usual beer and ale selection and below average food. It's not the grimiest pub but it could be cleaner. Only redeeming feature is they don't advertise live sport outside (God knows why) so you can usually find a place to sit and shout at the telly.
